Today the Imperium announced the expansion of its navy in a crash building program. The largest part of the program, the expansion of the SSN fleet, will involve building 624 new Upholder class SSNs at a total cost of $1.56 trillion. A Flight III version of the Subjugator class, this time an SSGN variant, will also be built, at a cost of $792 billion for 144 hulls. The program will occupy roughly 43% of all military drydocks and take approximately ten years to complete.
Unnamed sources cite the recent tensions with Pacitalia as a reason for the expansion, but also pointed out the tensions are likely a pretext for the Imperial Navy to fullfill its desire for greater numbers of submersible platforms. Is was also noted that if any armed conflict with Pacitalia were likely, a general expansion of the Navy would be underway as a hedge against limited OMP intervention.
