Karak Azgal

City: The Hold of Karak Azgal
Leader: High King Volgrim Jormbeard
Population: 5000
Karak Azgal is all but invisible from the air and very difficult to see from the ground as the vast majority of the Hold is below ground, tunnelled into a mountain. There is only one entrance (there are several secret exits but these are only known to the dwarfs) into the Hold and this is through a large pair of iron doors built into the mountain. Within is space enough for the entire population and enough stores to last months under siege.
During peace times there is a standing militia of around 150 warriors that will accompany the High King and defend the Hold from attack. When full scale war occurs these numbers can be boosted to around 1300, these include veterans and several primitive war machines (e.g. stone throwers). Dwarfs go to battle on foot, usually armed with a favourite axe/hammer or three, and are mostly heavily armoured. Stubborn, they do not easily give ground, they never forget an injustice against them but make firm allies and will honour their oaths to the death.
