Anchor Christy Zales: "...In more breaking news, a nuclear-equipped submarine was recently forced to surface by an erupting volcano near the Xanadou Sea. The Euripides volcano caused intense heating of the waters surrounding its island, magma causing both large amounts of steam and tidal waves that forced the submarine to surface. Unfortunately, the submarine could not surface fast enough to avoid being beached on a nearby coast.
The submarine became shipwrecked upon the island of Kurona only three hours ago. As of yet, no survivors have been reported, though there have been 20 casualties. Wives of submarine crewmen currently at sea are asked to please call in to their local military headquarters for further news. At this moment, the Government has not released any statements regarding the submarine, which is currently in Kurona custody. Admiral In Chief Leeroy Jenkins was unavailable for comment."

SONOMI

Princess Tomoyo's carriage pulled to the newly rebuilt Military station. Her gurads helped her out. She walked down the long narrow hall. Two soldiers stand guard out side a door. Both bow to her. "At ease soliders." They open the door for her, she walks into the darkend room. "Admiral?"

"Milady, our beachfront troops have found the remains of a Nucluear Sub on shore. Along with 20 Casulaties, several unarmed but active bombs, and crypted documents. We captured at least one member, but we found no others."

"Are you sure this submarine was an attack sub?"

"Yes milady."

"All of Kanami's task forces have withdrawn from Kurona and Xanadou. Stevid should have, but they did say some we're still left behind because of damage."

"We checked, no markings to indicate that it was a Stevid(an) Sub."

"And the documents, could they be spies? Kurona is still fragile right now, from our long ordeal. Not to mention we don't have half the technology most do. Ask him what he was doing in the Xanadouien Seas?"

The translator asks in the language of the captured sub crewman. He respondes in a vial tone.

"He refueses to tell." the translator said

Tomoyo responded "Tell him if he won't, he will be tried as a Prisoner of War, not A Kuronian, and will be subjected to harsher punishment if convicted."

Her defense minister Yasuhiko Yomatto signled for them to start the interogation. He walked over to Tomoyo and spoke: "What do you make of this?"

"A flat out invasion of our safty to this nation. I want to know where this sub came from, and why they we're here?"

"Do you think that this is an attempted invasion?"

"We are rich in agricultural resources, there are tones of thoes looking in for a "cash" on our farms. Not to mention my self. Arm the troops, we must be ready for any attack."

"What if they attack from the air?"

"All we can do is, tell the citzens to be on the look out, and prepare for the worst. We are not releasing this prsioner untill he tells us what he was doing."

"Yes your grace."

The Zombie Alliance

"Is the new division ready for review, General?" asked Lord Necromancer.

General Farr bowed deeply. He, like most of the 'zombies' in the Zombie Alliance, was very pale and his eyes were somewhat sunken in. He had black hair and a red leather jaket, traditional dress for a Kabmar* general. "Yes, milord," he responded.

Farr arose lead Lord Necromancer to a large iron door. He opened it by pressing numbered buttons on a keyboard next to it. The two of them walked out onto a high balcony overlooking a vast, concrete plain. In the west, the red sun was setting, putting the forested landscape ablaze.

Down on the concrete plain, 250,000 Kambarians were marching in formation. They wore camoflouge green uniforms.

Someone down there yelled, "Force, halt! Force, attention-bow!" The 250,000 men stopped, turned in the direction of the balcony, and bowed.

"There, milord," said General Farr, "is your new division: the Kambar Elite Zombiefied Force. They are totally diciplined, thanks to extra dosages of Xxargan potion**, and this is just half of their numbers." The general did not look Lord Necromancer dicrectly in the eye.

Lord Necromancer put on his most maniacle smile. "Mwahaha..." he laughed, "MWAHAHAHAHA-HA!!!" He curled his hands into claw shapes and raised them in the air, "MWAHAHAHAHA!!!" He thought,Now there's a way to kick ass in style.

General Farr flinched. Why do people always flinch like that whenever I laugh, Necromancer wondered.

*Kabmar-The Zombie Alliance is called Kambar by its native peoples.
**Xxargan potion-derived from the blood of a native Zombie Alliance fish, Xxargan potion has the effect of dropping its victims into a three-hour coma. The victims appear dead, but eventually get back up. The victims then become totally stupid, and as such, they obey orders without question. Used by Lord Necromancer to create slaves.

You can’t sense or see nervousness in the air- it’s impossible. But despite this scientific fact, human nature prevails and any normal human being would be able to sense the tension and nervous atmosphere in the meeting between all eighteen members of the defence committee. It was worrying to them that a submarine, possibly nuclear, had landed on the shoreline of Kurona. It had been a good few months since the weather disaster had struck Kurona and it had been only a matter of days since Kurona had been admitted into the Empire- but it no longer required an enormous military presence.
Despite this fact, they had all been worried about the fact that the submarine could have belonged to the Royal Navy. If it had been then it would have been a nuclear vessel.

Stevid nuclear submarine fleet was top-secret stuff. Many nations were barely aware of its presence. It rarely made an appearance in Naval magazines and never attended maritime shows in harbours. The size of Stevid’s nuclear fleet is unknown to everyone apart from the most highly ranked individuals in the Stevid Military and MoD. However, the whole of the defence committee knew that a nuclear submarine had been secretly dispatched to Kurona during the relief operation. No one knew why and no one ever would- but the fact remained that foreign eyes might have seen a Stevid Nuclear submarine for the first time in years.

The sound of many sighs of relief could be heard loudly when they found out that in fact it wasn’t the Stevid submarine they had been worried about.

“Thank GOD for that.” Sighed David Roberts, a civil servant in the MoD. “I thought it might have been the HMS Toddington. If it were then I’m afraid I might have had to order a self-destruct. Thank God it isn’t ours.”
“Any idea who’s it is?” asked another Civil servant.
“Well HMS Lancaster which is on a five month assignment to Kurona reported a blip on RADAR at approximately 2:30pm Stevid Central Mean Time (SCMT). They set a course to intercept before realising what was happening… You know, the volcano thing. I’m not a scientist so I’m not sure what really happened. But when daylight appeared, the local Harbour Master in Kurona hailed the HMS Lancaster informing them that a submarine had run aground on the coastline. They then moved to intercept and created a light perimeter to prevent other craft apart from Kurona Naval craft or coastguard. The HMS Lancaster is 500 meters from the coastline and can be seen clear as day… they were the first informed by Kurona officials that it wasn’t a Stevidian Submarine- they were as relieved as we were.”

The First Sea Lord of the Royal Navy, Sir Alan West, spoke up.
“So does this mean that our sub hasn’t been discovered?”
“That’s correct sir. However may I suggest removing it to safer waters due to the increase of security? The HMS Toddington is near invisible to RADAR but with all this modern technology floating around anything is possible.”
“Agreed. So what do we do?”
“We protect Kurona as a valued member of the Stevid Empire while also conducting our own investigation. We’ll help Kurona get to the bottom of this.”
“I’ll sent the HMS Darlington (T-45), the HMS Enterprise (Nuclear Carrier) and the HMS Houston (T-23) to accompany the HMS Lancaster. They’ll help in the investigation while providing a greater security.”
They all got up.
“Okay everyone! File a report on what you’ve dug up in the morning!
OH and Bill!! I want you to send a message to Kurona telling them that we are providing all the help we can to try and get to the bottom of this!!”

OOC: Nik, for this post I'm assuming we were both collaborators in the operation in question, as we're allies, etc. especially for this RP. If that's not okay with you just let me know and I'll edit it.

"Ma'am, we have a serious problem," foreign minister Jonathan Friedman said, rushing in the door of prime minister Angela Shepherd's office.

She looked up from the document she was reviewing, ballpoint pen in her hand, and saw he was carrying a folder, which he laid down on her desk. It was marked TOP SECRET - Operation Silent Night. She grimaced and laid the document and pen down on her dsk, taking the folder. "What is it? What's happened?"

As she said it, she flipped open the folder, pulling out clearance forms, photos, files on various nations, and other things. The clearance forms had Harakian and Damned People official seals on them, and were signed by the heads of both nations. She already knew what they said, revealing details of a top-secret 'observation' mission, in fact more a security measure, in which nuclear-armed Harakian and Damned People submarines would take long trips out together, armed to the teeth, thus giving both nations a measure of security with small yet potentially devastating arsenals outside the host nations and therefore virtually inaccessible by enemies, especially invading armies or air strikes. Also onboard the Harakian subs were one team each from the elite Combined Expeditionary Force (Formerly the Marine Elite Expeditionary Force, or MEEF, it was recently combined with special forces from the air force and army as well to form a separate branch formed of all three) onboard some of the subs, as a quick-reaction response team.

"One of the Damned People subs in the Xanadou Sea has been forced to surface following an underwater volcanic eruption, and beached up on the island of Kurona. Most of the crew is dead, but what limited HIA capacity we have in the nation informs us there is at least one survivor."

"Are any of our subs affected?"

Friedman nodded ominously. One of our submarines, the HNS Twilight, was damaged by the eruption as well, as it was on a patrol with the Damned People submarine. However, we were further from the blast and also further from the shore. The Twilight was forced to surface and is severely damaged."

Shepherd put her head in her hands. "Fred, this has 'shitstorm' written all over it. Who else is in the area?"

"Two other subs are within a day's travel at top speed of our sub. We can have the HNS Midnight and HNS Daybreak there by midnight tonight."

"Do it. Get the HIA working around the clock. I do not want the Twilight to be captured by the Kuronans. We're fucked if they find out we have anything to do with this. Assemble a taskforce centred around two carriers. She pulled open a drawer and looked at the folders inside. "The Dragoon and Fortune are off-duty in port. Should the Twilight fall into the hands of the Kuronans, it must be retrieved or destroyed before they analyze it. Give the captains of the Midnight and Daybreak permission to fire on both Kuronan ships and the Twilight if necessary. If we attack their ships and they discover it was us, we're in a bigger shitstorm than I thought."

Friedman just stood there for a moment until Shepherd looked up and snapped "Do it!" He jumped, nodded and rushed out the door. Shepherd sighed and removed a bottle of single-malt scotch from the left-hand side bottom drawer. It was empty. Somehow she got the impression this was going to be one of those days.

Gejigrad
Middle Greater Gejigrad
New London
The Octagon
Alpha Ring
Conference Room 1
1400 hours, GMT -8.32

Beneath the Alpha Ring of the Octagon, the Gejigradian military's nerve centre, lay Conference One, surrounded by electrically-disrupting mesh, three inches of titanium, overlaid over a further five inches of osmium, the whole of it surrounded by solid bedrock. There was one way in, and one way out, guarded by Military Police and friendly-fire autodefense turrets. Presidential Security had swept the room just prior to this meeting, as well, as a further precaution.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff, therefore, felt very secure when they filed through the pressure-sealable door and into the large conference room. Conference One could double as a warroom in emergencies, but at the moment, the tactical displays and holograms had been deactivated, leaving only the polished oak table and plush Gejigradian seats¹. Two males and females seated themselves, while another male remained standing. His name was Andrew Sylva, the General-in-Chief of the Air Force, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and a husky. He let his eyes pass over the men and women before him, his claw-tipped hands clasping opposite elbows, before he spoke.

"This purpose of this meeting is to discuss the possibility of researching and developing a nuclear deterrent," he announced formally. There was no surprise felt from the others--they had followed and indeed, been involved in, the debate for a month--but there was a resurfacing of emotions. General Sylva's eyes flicked unconciously over to the Admiral-in-Chief of the Space Force, Samantha de Lomme, a timberwolf, one of those opposing the nuclear buildup in Gejigrad. The Admiral-in-Chief of the Navy, Chelsea Griffon, a fox, was well on her way with agreeing with the other Admiral, while Andrew and the General-in-Chief of the Army, Richard Fulke, one of the minority of kodiak bears, stood for it. The General-in-Chief of the Marine Corps, Michael Stravington, a husky like Sylva, was undecided. "Is there any debate?" he queried them.

As if on cue, Samantha nodded. "There is, General."

"The Chair recognizes Admiral de Lomme," the General announced, equally formally as last time.

"Thank you, General Sylva," she said, standing, while Sylva took a seat. "As we are all aware, there are several advantages to possessing a nuclear deterrent. However, there are several disadvantages, that I feel I must restate." She paused for a minute time, satisfied at the nigh exasperation she felt exuding from Sylva, despite his best efforts to keep it concealed. "First and foremost, it thrusts us onto the international stage in a role we, in my opinion, are not ready to adopt. Second, the danger for abuse of any 'deterrent' is high, and it must be noted that, while nuclear weapons are defensive assets, they are primarily offensive assets."

Fulke stared at the Admiral for a time, before speaking. "Admiral de Lomme, I believe your first point is invalid. Gejigrad is most certainly ready for the role you referred to, given our compulsory military service. I cannot think of many nations that have eighty-two percent of its population combat-ready at any time. As well, our armored and airborne sectors are also in healthy conditions, at over five thousand vehicles and three hundred aircraft." He quirked an eyebrow, having shot down that, before moving on. "As for your second point, I feel that there is a need for clarification. Whom, precisely, do you feel would abuse nuclear weapons? And, why only nuclear assets?" He blinked. "If the party in question wanted to abuse nuclear weapons, then they would most certainly abuse conventional ones, as well."

"Your first counterpoint is accepted, but I must disagree with you on your second. I do not feel that I like the idea of 'in for a penny, in for a pound.' Yes, they would abuse conventional weapons, but I need not remind you of how devastating nuclear weapons can be," she said, her tone vaguely reminiscent of a schoolteacher instructing an errant student. "As for clarification on whom would abuse such weapons, one party comes to mind." She paused briefly, before continuing. "I refer to the SALP." Something not quite like a sigh went through the room at the mention of the pseudo-terrorist underground Sentient Animal Liberation Party. Their philosophy included the complete genocide of humans, along with the unification of all sentient animals under one world-nation. A lunatic fringe at best, a psychotic collection of mental-ward patients with guns and funding at worst.

Sylva snorted in contempt. "The SALP, Admiral, is no more than a rag-tag bunch of idiots."

de Lomme cut in before the General could continue. "They are a legitimate political party, Mister Chairman. The dangers we could potentially face if they gain office--"

"They will not gain office," Stravington snapped. His family was a super-conservative collection of purebred huskies, and some were members of the SALP. He, however, hated them down to the last fibre of their being to the very utmost of his ability. "They are insane, and no one will elect the Scalps to office. The country would implode before that happened," he scoffed dismissively. "What is their membership? Not even one percent--not even half of a percent--of Gejigrad's total registered voters? I hardly think they will make any sort of dent. Not to mention, nigh-everyfurre despises them as stupid, maniacal freaks." Something like an inferno burned behind Stravington's eyes as he finished, and it swept around the table, daring anyone to disagree.

The Admiral's mouth opened, wanting desperately for the vixen next to her to back her up. But no words came from either female, and she shut it promptly. "Very well, General. Your points are well-made. I retract my statements," she conceded, seating herself.

"It is decided, then," announced General Sylva. "Gejigrad will pursue a nuclear deterrent program." He stood, and nodded to them all. "This meeting is dismissed."

¹Gejigrad is a nation descendant from bipedal anthropomorphic animals, and so, their chairs have a hole in the bottom rear to accomodate tails of varying size.

Tomoyo contiuned talking with her Cabiante about the situation and dicovery. Foreign Advisor Li Hirihito walked in carrying a paper in his hand. He lowerd and whispered "Milady." He handed her the paper.

To: The Principality of Kurona Parliment
From: The Empire of Stevid

It came to our attention that you descoverd a submarine on your shores. We will aid in the investigation to find out why.

"Exclellent." She said. "With Stevid helping this will be figured out in no time. That will be all for the day." The Cabinate Members stood and left. "Li, Yasuhiko, please stay."

Both complied with out question.

Li stated. "Pleased milady?"

"I am. I wish this could give me more comfort. All it will take is one shot of an ICBM to wipe this place out. If that was what that sub was for, I'm fearing what will happen if we'll go to war."

Yasuhiko replied: "We have several suspects as to who. One is a terroist group called De Genociders they are pretty much out to get rid of all humanity. Another is a group called Les Anarchy and their goal is to rid the world of all organized government. "

"The sub seems to be a bit too professional to come from an underground group. No this is a military action. As to what, we have to find out."

"So far everyone is remanining calm through out the nation." Said Li "Most are flocking to their churches or shrines to pray for safty. You are deeply stressed, why not visit the Shinto Storm Shrine? Maybe give you some comfort."

"I'll try anything. Prepare my carriage. Also Li, please inform the Stevidan Ministry that we thank them, and welcome the help."

"Yes your grace." Li exeited.

"Yasu... (that is what she calls him for short) Enact a draft. All abled men should report to Sonomi to take up arms. "

"Yes milady."

The New White House,
J City.

The Office of the President’s International Security Advisor was always busy in the morning and today was no exception. Three Generals and their staff had already visited the office and it was only half past nine in the morning, time for the usual IHIA briefing from the residential officer.

One of the Secretaries knocked on the door once and then opened it for the officer, allowing him to walk into the room that was flooded with natural light coming through the five-inch thick glass that stood behind the elegant mahogany desk that took up a sizeable part of the room. From behind the desk the figure rose, strangely his face was darkened and so his features could not be determined, which didn’t matter to the intelligence officer as he had been at school with this particular Presidential employee.

A friendly hand was leant over the desk and taken by the other and the usual pleasantries were exchanged before the visitor removed a file from the briefcase that was handcuffed to his left wrist and placed it on the desk.

“Usual hotspots are pretty clear. Very little activity from Guff or the other usual suspects. AMF and Kraven are still throwing themselves at each other. Europe, Africa, Asia and the America’s are having a quiet day and the usual amount of new countries appeared in the Pacific over the course of yesterday evening. About an even spread of Fascist Dictators and communist politburo’s if our reports are clear.”

That generated a laugh from the ISA before the briefer continued.

“Couple of governments have fallen, nothing major, the normal IN military exercises are gradually increasing in scope in line with what we expected, same on the SAVX and Abrams ones.”

“So the world is once again a safe place?”

“Not quite.”

He took a full page picture out of his file and handed that across the table to the ISA.

“That is a nuclear attack sub beached on the coast of the Island nation of Kurona. We only picked it up by accident really, we use the beach there to calibrate our cameras on the satellites that are watching Guffingford later in their orbit cycle, there are surprising similarities with the beaches. Anyway there are some worrying indicators about this provoking an incident around that area, and it is within a hundred miles of the tankers coming down to us from the Khaif. That sub isn’t a domestic one that has gone wrong, it’s a foreign vessel and that has the capability to spark some kind of conflict that would put those tankers in danger. You know what that would mean.”

An oil shortage was something often feared in the higher circles of the IH government and the nation had become involved in conflicts more than once to ensure that its oil supply was not interrupted. The media often did not understand how significant the import of oil was and would chastise the government over any military action over an apparently abundant resource. Truth be told whilst the Hitmen’s huge lands were rich in many resources, including deposits of gold the extent of which were only just becoming realized, they had virtually no oil to speak of. There were a few drilling platforms off the coast near Gillen, but they provided a token amount compared to the needs of the nearly 6 billion inhabitants of the giant nation. The annual oil import cost accounted for 76.5% of the total cost imports; the figure was lower than it had been due to extremely favourable terms given to the Hitmen by the Khaif and their trading partner the Ottoman Sultan.

“Conflict in the region would not be in our interests. Is there any evidence that there could be?” this question from the ISA.

“The Kuronans obviously think so. They just began a draft four hours ago, its going out on their national TV and radio for all able bodied men to report for duty. It will screw their economy if they get it wrong, and we have no information available over stocks of weapons and equipment for them.”

As was the case in a world this size there simply weren’t enough men in the IHIA to keep track of every country’s military, and there certainly weren’t enough satellites in the sky or planes in the air or even ships in the sea to be able to gain enough information to have even a dossier on most nations in the world. The fact that the satellite had only picked this incident up whilst calibrating its cameras was proof enough of the mammoth task that faced the men and women at the various Intel Analysis posts that dotted the country despite their huge satellite receivers and banks of underground supercomputers. Further more the non existent HUMINT assets in this country, or even its region, meant that snoopers would have to become very busy around the area to give a clearer picture of the danger faced to the oil lanes.

“We had better take this to the President. Get his approval to send some snoopers around to try and pick up something. Maybe even get a carrier to move a little closer to see.”

Without waiting for his junior colleague, who was actually two months older than him, the ISA stood and walked out of his door, turning left once he had passed through his secretaries’ room into a well decorated corridor.

With his school friend in tow he passed through the first of several Secret Service checkpoints that were between the New White house departments and the office belonging to the President. A one way mirror next to it hid another five pair of eyes that watched everybody who came through whilst also eyeing the rack of M4 Carbines that sat under the bulletproof glass.

But the ISA paid little attention to that. He knew that he just needed to show his security pass, hanging around his neck, and proceed to the outer Secretaries office to announce his presence and request a moment of the Presidents time. This he did, and after a one minute wait for the Secretary for the Interior to finish his meeting for increased farm subsidies he strolled in.

“Mr President.”

“Mornin’ Bob. You’re not on my list for this morning.”

“No Sir. We have just had some information that may be of interest to you, it relates to the Khaif Oil Lanes.”

As intended that had gotten the Presidents attention completely focused on the conversation and the two visitors to the Office of Power, as it was known to insiders, gave a quick briefing of the situation. They were joined a minute later by Admiral Jackson who had been called up by the President when he heard the briefing and a course of action was chosen.

Qualse Naval Air Station,
Majestic Island.

This IH Base was the only actual man made thing on this Island. The Island itself was barely big enough to hold the one main runway and one reserve runway along with the collection of buildings and hangars that denoted its purpose as an Oil Lane Patrol Station. Two large Radars were always in operation and there was a reserve mobile one in a concrete shelter incase one of them broke down, as seemed to happen frequently in the winter months. The station held a flight of five F-15C Interceptors, a pair of E-3A Sentry AWAC’s aircraft, seven P-3CI Orion Maritime Patrol Aircraft and a pair of RC-135 Electronic Information gatherers. One of those was being pre-flighted by a ground maintenance crew as the crew awoke in their concrete shelter.

What promised to be a long day for Major Topkin started surprisingly late. After a light breakfast the Major strolled out with the rest of his crew to the squadron briefing room and their received a quick run through of their mission for today. Head west and see what they could gather from a small Island called Kurona that was of apparent interest to the bigwigs in J City. The four man flight crew made their way out to the converted 707 airliner behind the mission crew of some fifteen technicians.

Major Topkin did all of the checks himself before climbing into the aircraft and buckling in beside his co-pilot, the newest member of the aircrew. All four engines started as normal, and all the gauges and dials reached their prescribed places as the pilot tripped the breaks and began his short taxi to the end of runway 01, talking to the tower as he did so.

“Tower, River One requesting permission to go. Over.”

“River One Runway zero-one is clear. Crosswind at bearing 045 at 2 knots. Have a good trip.”

“Roger, thank you Tower. See you boys later.”

The Major increased his throttles with one hand whilst holding the flight yoke with the other and within a minute the aircraft was in the air, turning and climbing onto its prescribed flight path.

In the back the technicians were working away at their various instruments with the precision of surgeons, trying to gather as much data as they could as early as they could.

IHS Neptune, Isomer Class Strike Carrier
Patrolling the Khaif Oil Lanes

Captain Gregory Clarkson surveyed his command through bright blue eyes that appeared to others to glisten in the early morning sunlight so common to this part of the world. His mind wandered back to the first time he had seen his new command six months before when she had been sitting in a dry dock after the replacement of Number Three screw. He didn’t think that something that big could float after being a Destroyer man all of his naval career and being present at the Battle of Ohia Island were the IH carriers had taken such a fearful pounding for precious little reward.

He remembered the sight of Independence, the namesake of the entire fleet, sitting low in the water as she slowly returned to port to the dry dock next to her sister that he now commanded. Neptune had taken no part in that conflict thanks to the damage done to her screws that had put her in dry dock for two months. Just before she sailed he had taken over as her commanding officer, taking his new command to one of the posts used to get ships back “into the groove” as it was known.

Now sailing under the Flag of Rear-Admiral Kent, Neptune was the Flagship of Task Force 22, a small force consisting of the carrier, a pair of Ticonderoga Class Guided Missile Cruisers, five Arleigh Burke Class Destroyers, two Kidd Class Destroyers and four Oliver Hazard Perry Class Frigates. The group didn’t even have the usual submarines that were supposed to accompany then due to the requirements of the Khaif Naval Games, reports from which had dried up several weeks before.

Task Force 22 now appeared to be on another bust mission. They were heading West slightly so they could be in a position to move to within 400 miles of Kurona within four days of receiving an order to do so. They didn’t know why. They just knew that the orders had come out of the blue, and annoyed some of the crew who were looking forward to a week in Port Ball that now looked unlikely to happen.

The screen flickered on to show up-and-coming Haraki News Network reporter Miranda Cooper standing on a dock, holding a microphone. She looked at the camera, looking around for a moment to see if the red light was on, then saw it was and looked sheepish. "Well, Alex, I'm standing here in the port city of Arkia where the aircraft carriers Dragoon and Fortune are standing by for what the navy calls a 'routine patrol mission'. Why a patrol needs two aircraft carriers and a battleship is beyond me.

"The strangest thing about this whole deployment is that Haraki has no interests in the area, Alex. As far as we can tell, these ships are being sent to nowhere, in the middle of the Pacific. But I suppose all will become clear in due time."

A pair of TSF-620B fighter planes roared overhead, one turning a barrel roll and peeling away to the right, the other to the left. They reunited and one came in to land on the Dragoon, the other following close behind after another circle. She turned and watched as the pilots got out of their planes and high-fived each other.

Then suddenly something else caught her interest. She beckoned to the cameraman to follow her as she ran towards a building, turning bakc to the camera as a man in military attire walked out. "Vice-Admiral, do you have any comments about this deployment? Vice-Admiral?"

Vice-Admiral William Barkley turned to face directly into the camera and said matter-of-factly, "This is a routine military excercise. I have no further comments."

She shook her head as he walked away, then turned back to the camera. "Back to you, Alex, in the studio."

HNS Twilight, Xanadou Sea

Captain Alexis Marshall stood on the bridge of the submarine, whcih was not moving, some distance off the Kuronan coast. The reactor had been shut down following the disaster and the surfacing of the sub, and even that amount of time had put a lot of strain on it, as it was seriously damaged from the eruption. Half the crew was up on deck as the heating and cooling system had been severely damaged and was superheating and supercooling different parts of the vessel, and thus the extreme temperatures inside the ship made it impossible to stay inside for too long. Several men were wounded, one severely who had taken a jet of boiling water in his eyes when the sub was first hit by the disaster. The doctor said he would be lucky if he lived, but would be blind for the rest of his life.

Marshall surveyed the horizon with his binoculars, looking around for any sign of shore or of a rescue ship from either side. Nothing. The horizon was entirely clear blue water and the lack of clouds meant the blue of the sky and the blue of the water almost matched. He sighed and pulled on a thick winter parka, pulling himself down the ladder and making his way to the bridge, the coldest part of the ship. He switched to a frequency never used by merchant shipping and dispatched a message in code.

The code had been developed entirely for Operation Silent Night, and was, as far as the participants knew, entirely uncrackable. They had hjired various professional and military codebreakers and none had succeeded in breaking it. And so, the encrypted message was sent out, as the captain's hands started to show the cold. Once he was finished, he quickly made his way back up top to the tower of the sub, and once again scanned the horizon, once more finding nothing.

The message, once decoded, read thusly: "All ships, this is the Twilight. We have suffered critical damage and are dead in the water. Requesting immediate rescue and evacuation" and included the coordinates of the ship.

They didn't know that the Midnight and Daybreak were already well on their way to intercept them, or even if the message had gone out or not. All they knew was they didn't want to be captured by the Kuronans.

They were about four hours into their patrol now and were coming to the edge of the area they were set to fly in and gather their intelligence. Major Topkin handed over the flight controls to his co-pilot and headed aft to the crew comfort room, or toilet as it was usually called.

Once he had relieved himself of the two cups of coffee he had consumed at the airbase he turned and went into the cabin of his aircraft to find the watch officer on duty there. Seeing him leaning over a screen near the rear of the aircraft he headed that way, careful to watch his step for any cables or wiring that stuck out from places all around the airframe.

"Captain have we got anything yet?" he asked when he was in audible range of the officer. He could have done this over the intercom, but this way he got to strech his legs as well.

"Yes we have Sir. Picked up a signal about a minute ago but the computer cant read it. Heavy encryption like we have never seen before. Possibly similar to Black Steel, I'm uploading it to the satellite to send back to Gillen as we speak."

"Good. We are coming on station very soon, so expect to have plenty more to work with. The signal you picked up, we got it when too far away for it to have been land based didn't we?"

"Possibly. My direction finding crew are trying to assertain a direction from it, but without another aircraft to triangulate with its unlikely that we will be able to. My guess would be a ballistic submarine broadcasting to a satellite that we happened to be in the way of. Direction transmitters scatter the signal out the larger they are, at least most of ours do, and so we may have picked it up by accident. With the level of encryption it will take the computers a while to break, assuming they can of course."

The computer arrays at the Gillen facility had, until a year ago, been state of the art and thought capable of cracking any encryption. However with the evolution of the Black Steel Supercomputer network by the RWC that myth had passed on. Barely 20% of traffic could not be read, and there was far too much of that to be completely detected let alone analysed by intelligence staff.

Major Topkin listened to all of this impassively and then turned back towards the cockpit. As he wandered back towards it he wondered how much of a bust this mission was going to be.

H.M.S. RAVEN Off the coast of Kurona

Several people looked out at the sea. It had been some time since it was as smooth as glass.

Admiral James Murdock: "Never seen such a firghtful calm. "

Private Samuel Hanks: "Better than the tossing sea. Rember?"

Murdock: Who could forget.

A buzz caught Murdocks attention. He picked up the service phone. "Yes?"

"This is the Crows nest. Reporting Calm seas, and skies, and no sign of any unorthodox activity. Some night fishermen are packing it in, and wait..."

"What do you see?" Murdock asked.

The men in the crows nest keep peering out to the horizon.

Mrudock was growing concerned. "Yuske?"

"Sir, we see something. It doesn't appear to be a night fisshing boat, it's unlikley their would be any passanger boats out here. Peer 45/65 Degrees starbord side."

Murdock looked into the telescope. Something was definatly out there.

Murdock ordered Sam: "Signal the H.M.S.Kurona

At the Kurona the light signal was being decypherd.

The sailors sitting atop the HNS Twilight, huddled around in blankets and in small clusters to keep warm as the night air turned cold watched as the ship approached them. The Captain Marshall cursed under his breath. He had received a message back from the HNS Midnight reporting both it and the Daybreak were on their way, but they hadn't arrived yet, and this obviously wasn't them. He had the feeling they were in trouble, as the HMS Raven began circling around them.

The sub was dead in the water, its power plant disabled and all-but destroyed. It could not defend tiself if it had to, as the inside of the ship was nearly uninhabitable. The man who had been blinded by the boiling water was lying on deck, moaning and screaming at intervals, being attended to along with the other three severely injured ones, by the ship's doctor, who hadn't slept since the incident nearly a day earlier. Marshall stood on the bridge of the submarine, watching the HMS Raven circling around them, and wishing he knew what was going on. According to their transmission the Midnight should have been here by now, nearly an hour earlier, and the Daybreak should have been arriving soon.

One of the main problems was that they were within Kuronan national waters without permission, and therefore subject to Kuronan law and military power. Without serious breaches of conduct, there was no way they could escape this one.

HNS Midnight, Xanadou Sea

The view through the periscope was not good. A Kuronan ship was circling around the disabled submarine, with no way to evacuate the sailors onboard without the Kuronans noticing. And, according to reports from the Daybreak, another ship was on its way. Unfortunately for international relations, the captain of the Midnight wasn't willing to sacrifice the people onboard the Twilight so easily. And so, a message was sent to the Daybreak to trail the new ship coming in. Should the ship circling the Twilight break to make way back for Kuronan territory, the Midnight would attempt an emergency retrieval of the sailors onboard the Twilight. If not, well ... Time would tell on that one.

River One, RC-135 Electronic Intelligence Gatherer
On patrol station 40miles from Kuronan shore

The sudden burst of electronic communications that signalled the discovery of the surfaced submarine was picked up by the orbiting intelligence aircraft that was only about thirty miles from the event.

Major Topkin advanced his throttles slightly and set the aircraft on a course that kept it parallell to the shore but also brought them closer to the area from where the transmissions had most likely come from. The technicians in the back could also give him a better course intercept by tracking in on the radar emmissions from the two ships that were on the surface some way away.

In the back other technicians were nervous. They were scanning the SAM radar bands anxious that there intrusion could result in a missile launch despite the fact that they were in International Airspace they were well out of any commercial air routes and some countries were quite funny about having snoopers near their theoretical borders. So they watched their instruments and one nervously fingered the countermeasures button that sat next to his station, hoping and praying he didn't have to use it whilst also concentrating on his screen.

One of the other technicians monitoring the communications had heard a garbled noise, rather like static, that had started then stopped several times. He pressed the transmit button on his intercom that linked him to the Chief of the Watch.

"Sounds awfully like an encrypted link. Rather similar to the Talaax ones from a way back. Do we have a classification on the radar signiture yet?"

"Negative. The computer keeps telling us that it doesn't exist. Wes thinks that it could be a modified American one on a Perry Frigate, you know local updates like we do. We have four signals though, two probable air search and two sea search. If those are air search they will have us within the next minute. Lets hope the Major can talk us out of any trouble we get into."

"Hope so Sir. I didn't pack a parachute."

"Funny man. Let me know if you get anything."

Qualse Naval Air Station,
Majestic Island

The airbase was fast becoming quite a popular place to be. For reasons unknown to majority of those stationed there in the past four hours they had had three new arrivals with another five scheduled to come in within the next two.

Two of the three new aircraft were KC-135 Tanker's, the first one of which had already filled its tanks to the brim and then headed off on the same course that River One had taken four hours before.

The other new arrival had been quickly pushed into a large unused hangar and placed under guard. It was one of the few SR-71's left in the IH arsenal, and may come in use if an actual reconnisance was needed over large areas of sea to safeguard the Oil Lane's.

Of the five more aircraft coming in, three were TWM-1's the sister of the E-3A that monitored ground radar contacts rather than airbourne ones. The other two were EF-111 Raven Jammers, old airframes but they had been updated with the latest suppression systems as well as electronic monitoring equipment to supplement their great speed and range. Both of these had come out of Clarkson Air Force Base in Abrams and made the long flight to Qualse with fuel tanks on the wing pylons rather than the nuclear weapons that they were originally designed to carry.

Back at Clarkson another flight of five F-15C's roared off the ground one by one, followed by a pair of C-130 transport aircraft carrying their ground support crews. The F-15's would refuel in flight once at altitude and would then continue to Qualse using their own internal fuel and that on the drop tanks held in place under their wings where missiles should have been to complete the two thousand mile hop.

The pilots were also unclear as to why the particular area of Real Estate around Qualse had become so interesting to the higher command, however like good military personnel they followed their orders and speculated within their lonely cockpits as they flew on.

“RADAR contacts 17 degrees of the starboard bow. It’s a surface target and there are a few other targets one is nearby the main target and is circling, probably Kuronain, and there are some more targets a long away off from here. The nearest one is stationary!”

The HMS Toddington had had a rough few days. They had escaped extreme damage caused by the eruption and narrowly avoided breaking the surface of the water and now could only do ten knots due to the engine damage.
The nuclear submarine had been lurking around and had been keeping an even lower profile than usual now that the area was a hot spot for possible conflict. But yet there had been very little to do, but now something had come up.

The captain turned to the Operations Officer who had just called out the RADAR contact.
“Thank Lieutenant… Up Periscope!”
The long steel tube in the centre of the control room whirred to life as the scope moved upwards to a comfortable position for the captain to look through.
He stared through the view port in the scope, scanning the horizon for the object on the surface and easily found it along with the Kuronaian ship circling around it.
“Ah ha….Helmsman, rig the ship for a silent running…. 5 knots please.”
“5 Knots, Aye Sir!”
The captain pressed a red button on one of the scope handles and his vision went black with a click and then returning as swiftly has it happened.
“Digital Picture Received sir!” Said the Operations Officer “…… Definitely a submarine sir no doubt about it. Whether it is allied or not is debatable. She’s alone and on the surface with what looks like people- just a few- on the deck, she probably received to short end of the straw when the eruption happened.”
“You said it could be debateable whether it is allied?” asked the Communications officer. “Well I’ve intercepted a coded message sent from the target- receiver unknown. I’m pretty sure if it were an allied vessel it wouldn’t have coded it’s message quite so heavily… this message will be a bastard to crack through.”
“Can you do it?” Questioned the captain with a hopeful look on his face.
“Oh yeah we’ll crack it- when we’ll crack it is another matter… don’t worry I’ve people working on it.”

The captain looked back through the scope hoping to see any sign of identification. He saw a flag, probably of the nation of which it belonged to but the wind was against him and he couldn’t see it clearly enough to ID it.

“It’s definitely hostile.” He finally said.
“What makes you say that?”
“Kurona do not have nuclear subs. In fact they don’t have nuclear weapons at all, they’re very sensible people. We are the only nation so far to send a task force to Kurona at the moment, and we were already here and we weren’t notified by allies that they had subs in the area… logic and process of elimination suggests that it must be a hostile ship.”

The word hostile grabbed the attention of a young lieutenant who was in control of the weaponry on that particular watch.
“Shall I go to Battle Stations Sir!” He yelped.
“Negative but go to yellow alert and load tubes One through Four with the Tiger Fish Torpedoes. Oh! And DON’T surface the boat, remember we aren’t known to be here and RADAR says there are other blips on RADAR that will pick us up if we surface. If I surface the boat it will be to utterly destroy the enemy… no foreign bastard in the last twenty years has ever looked upon a Stevid Submarine and liven to tell any one less… I intend to keep the tradition.”
An evil, gleeful smile spread across his face, cheek to cheek as he continued to stare through the scope.
“Lets see what happens shall we lads?”

As the crew of the Twilight began to look around to begin boarding over to the HMS Raven, a message was received from the capitol, Kiros, bouncing off a Harakian satellite and back down to the ship. It was a gamble, to be sure, admitting the nationality of the lost submarine, but one they were willing to take. "Unidentified Kuronan ship," came the voice of the Chief of the Navy Admiral Roger Blaine. "This is the Chief of the Harakian Navy, Admiral Roger Blaine. As we udnerstand it, one of our submarines has recently trespassed into your national waters. This is due to a navigational error caused by an onboard fire. We were sending ships and submarines to assist it and guide it back on course when it was struck by the underwater eruption of a volcano.

"This ship in your territorial waters is an accident. We repeat, this is an accident caused by damaged equipment and subsequently a natural disaster. With your permission, we would like to send in another submarine or two which will rescue the sailors off the submarine in question and tow it back to international waters, where a Harakian navy taskforce will pick it up and bring it back to our ports.

"Your naval forces can escort the rescue submarines in question if you so desire."

And with that, Admiral Blaine waited for a response urgently, almost biting his lip from the tension, a habit he hadn't indulged since childhood. If this didn't work they would have no choice. He hated the fact that it was true, but it was. It was unavoidable. However, this gamble restricted their options severely as it revealed the nationality of the submarine in question.

HNS Twilight, Xanadou Sea

The other two submarines were nowhere in sight as the sailors were greeted by the harsh voices from the HMS Raven commanding the sailors to exit onto the Raven for transport back to shore, and the Kuronan medics dropped down onto the deck of the ship to aid with the four wounded. The Harakian doctor, after showing them the extent of the mens' injuries, promptly stepped backwards and fell asleep right on the deck.

Captain Marshall, stepped down the ladder back into the ship after hearing the broadcasted message, and was met by members of the crew, some stripped down to their undershirts and some dressed in thick winter gear, coming up to the hatches. He raised a hand. "Wait." He had noticed several of them had grabbed emergency weaponry from the ship's armoury on their way up. "Put the weapons back. There's no point in fighting. We'd cause an international incident and lose anyway. I don't want to watch my men die, and I refuse to be a party to this."

The men nodded their heads and, some reluctantly, went to return the weaponry. The rest slowly made their way up onto the deck, watching the sailors standing around preparing to transfer themselves over to the Raven, just at the same time as the Raven received the message from Admiral Blaine.

As his crew started to file onto the Raven through a boarding mechanism, Captain Marshall ran downstairs to receive a transmission sent from the same satellite that had relayed the message to the Kuronan fleet. It read thusly, similarly encoded as the preceding one sent by the Twilight:

"Sending this message to confirm both the Twilight's navigation malfunction due to an onboard fire and subsequent damage sustained by the submarine following an underwater eruption of a volcano in the Xanadou Sea, and that the first malfunction was what sent you off course into Kuronan national waters."

He quickly scrambled to send back a message confirming, then ran to the navigation console. It was destroyed already, and had been due to short-circuiting following the reactor breakdown. He made his way back to the deck and saw much of the crew had already made their way onto the Raven, where they were being taken inside to warmer places than the top of a submarine, and cursed inwardly. Much of the crew was already onboard the other ship, and so he took the only option he could. He sacrificed his own security and plausibility for international stability. Grabbing the microphone from the conning tower in front of him that brought on the megaphone loudspeakers, he announced into them, his voice amplified many times over, "Crewmembers of the HNS Twilight, in the interests of national security and stability do not give those apprehending you any information about the malfunctions aboard the ship. Any dealings of this nature will be dealt with by the Harakian government and are none of your concern."

With that done, he turned the megaphone off and made his way down to join his crew crossing over.

HNS Daybreak, Xanadou Sea

The Daybreak had broken off its course trailing the HMS Kurona and made its way quickly to the edge of Kuronan national waters, having received the transmission from the Harakian Navy. At maximum speed, they reached the edge of national waters after several hours steaming, pulled a 180-degree turn, and surfaced, broadcasting a message to the Kuronans.

"This is the HNS Daybreak, requesting permission to enter Kuronan waters to retrieve Harakian sailors and Harakian military material."

OOC: Kurona, that conversation happened over the aircrafts intercom, not between it and anywhere else. Not sure it could have been picked up, not that that bit matters that much.

River One, RC-135 Electronic Intelligence Gatherer,
On Patrol Station Charlie 40miles from Kuronan shore.

Sitting at her console display in the aircraft one of the technicians pressed her earpiece in a little harder as a message came through completely over the clear. After listening to it she quickly pressed her own intercom link to the Chief of the Watch who had just stopped finished speaking to the principle communications technician who was handling encrypted signals.

“Chief you may want to come and listen to this. We can now positively identify the situation. We have a badly damaged surfaced Haraki submarine and at least one, possibly two, Kuronan warships that are probably boarding her.”

“On the way Karol.”

The Chief stood and quickly walked over to her station where he automatically plugged his headset into the designated slot and began looking at the screens arrayed in front of him.

“Ok, transmission came from a satellite over an open link so that anybody could get it. Co-ordinates of the satellite?” he received a nod and she tapped another screen. “ Excellent. We can send that back along with the message and they can attempt to track the authenticity of it. Good work Karol, I’ll pass it to the Major upfront so he knows what’s going on.”

With a pat on the back he headed back to his own station, plugging in his headset cable again.

“Major sir, it appears to be a boarding action going on down below us. We have solid intercepts that suggest a Haraki Sub and at least one Kuronan surface vessels. I’m sending that back to base for their confirmation.”

Upfront Major Topkin listened to his technician’s comments silently, sharing a look with his co-pilot. If it was a boarding action then a snoop may not be too welcome and might be met with a SAM, however as yet there had been no indications that they had even been detected although the air search radars were only emitting from fifteen miles away and must have had them for sometime. He made a quick scan of his instruments and then a look at the clock.

Soon time to fuel he thought to himself, hoping that the KC-135 would be there to meet him and inwardly cringing at the in-flight refuelling procedure that he would have to go through soon. As if on cue the co-pilot tapped him on the shoulder.

“Major, anti-collision strobes at our 9 O’Clock”

Major Topkin nodded and pressed his transmit button.

“Surplus, this is Quebec. Authenticate Bravo Over” when he released the transmit button the transmission was burst transmitted to the KC-135 that was now two miles away and closing on the Intel aircraft.

“Quebec, Surplus. Authentication Whisky Foxtrot Five. I hear you guys need some gas?”

“Roger Surplus. Fill us to the brim please.”

“Acknowledged Quebec. Windspeed is four-zero, drop to two-niner thousand and course zero-four-five, we have clear air just below you Over.”

“Received Surplus, dropping to two-niner and proceding on zero-four-five.”

The converted airliner angled its nose down and the Major applied some light rudder to bring the aircraft to the prescribed course and altitude about fifty miles from the Kuronan coast. The KC-135 took up position in front of River One and began lowering the refuelling boom downwards towards the long node that protruded from the front of the modified 707 to which it was giving fuel. The boom operator nervously moved it slowly down, knowing that the lives of those below depended on him.

Twenty minutes later the 707’s tanks were full and the operator released the boom to a small spray of fuel vapour as the KC-135 increased its speed and angled back towards Qualse, its part in the mission done.

River One now had enough fuel for another nine hours of flying which translated to another five hours on station before the four hour flight back to Qualse. Now free of the refuelling aircraft Major Topkin took his aircraft back to Patrol Station Charlie and allowed the autopilot to take over whilst the co-pilot watched and he went to relieve himself again.

The Chief of the Watch saw the pilot leave the cockpit again, but this time was too busy with signals to go and talk to him. They had just received a message from command confirming the authenticity of the original signal and also they had picked up some more open transmissions going between vessels. They had plotted a rough course for another Haraki submarine that was requesting permission to enter Kuronan waters to retrieve their stranded sub as well as having a good idea as to the reply to that request. If they had understood it correctly they would be tracking another radar target that would come out to escort the new submarine to port.

“The Kingdom of Kreature situation that we briefed you on a while back Mr President. That appears to have settled lately though and is of no real concern to us.”

“Right Ok. General what do you recommend we do with regards this situation?”

“Sir. We have all the necessary surveillance assets in the theatre now. A couple more Rivet Joints are on the way in to Qualse as we speak, along with replacement crews for those already there. Perhaps if the situation escalates any further a warning to all countries involved that the USIH does not wish to see war that close to a vital trade lane and would take all necessary steps to protect that trade lane may be necessary. But at the moment I believe we need to watch and wait. Perhaps move the Independence group a little closer, but not noticeably so.”

“Very well General. You have my permission. Lets make sure it doesn’t happen. Thank you Gentlemen”

The President standing was a cue for all of those present that the meeting was at an end.

The captain looked to the RADAR operator and judging by the look on his face he was finding it hard to concentrate on everything that was happening above.

“Report Lieutenant.”
“It’s like rush hour in the capital city sir- an awful lot of activity. In fact there is a plane that has entered the local airspace. It’s flying along normally but it can’t be civilian, it’s a no fly zone here; no one in their right mind would be stupid enough to allow a civilian air craft over here. I conclude that it is a spy plane or surveillance plane. One hundred percent sure.”
“What about the surface ships?”
“Definitely busy up here sir. Kurona has got the situation under control at the moment, one vessel has pulled along side and the other seems to be circling and keeping it’s distance.”
“So I presume they’ve set up a perimeter?”
“Aye sir, no doubt that they are looking for other foreign ships in the area.”
“Is there any sign we’ve been detected?”
“None what so ever. Besides, we’re rigged for a silent running, no open communication channel and ordered to maintain radio silence, and this submarine itself is a stealthy one. If we are detected then we’ll know about it.”

The captain soaked up all this information and nodded gratefully.
“Good, good… err… Helmsman, distance from target?”
“Exactly one and a half miles sir and closing.”
“Maintain course oh and keep the torpedoes loaded. It could be possible that the “enemy” might make a break for it. The least we can do for Kurona is insure that their catch doesn’t get away too easily. TACTICAL!!! Lock torpedoes on targets but you are NOT to fire! Understood?”

“Aye sir.”

The 4 sub's rigged for silent running and stoped any coms and one of the ICBM's subs surfaced and got ready incase this got hot and goth there Nuclear weapons ready making sure every thing worked with out firing the warheads.

The Recon plane was getting hit by radar and disigned to stay 90 km away from the land and get a side shot of the sub and then turned back to the main Battle Group.
The Fleet got ready on High alert and started to sonar the ocean and radar and got the Anti-Missile guns ready for service. The planes on the Aircraft Carriers got ready for the situation to get hot.

After 2 hours the ICBM sub went back under water and rigged for silet running and joined the other subs and went to red alert.

As Captain Alexis Marshall was the last man off the HNS Twilight, he stopped immediately prior to getting on the ramp to take him from his ship, and turned back to survery her. She was a good ship, and had been up until the incident. He had a funny feeling he wouldn't see her again, but shook it off as mere supersitition, turned and walked up the ramp onto the HMS Raven.

Beneath the seas, the captain of the HNS Midnight turned to his bridge crew. "Well, boys, it looks like a peaceful solution is on the horizon, at least for now. The Daybreak is surfaced outside Kuronan territory and on their way in for retrieval. Once confirmation of the Daybreak's acceptance is made and peace is on the negotiating table, we'll withdraw and resurface outside Kuronan waters. For now, we keep an eye on this whole mess. But if we're spotted, or anything of the sort, this whole mess gets blown to hell, so keep it careful."

"Sir," called the radar operator, "We're getting some strange reports."

The captain, one Neal Webster, quickly made his way over to the radar and sonar stations, right beside each other in the cramped conditions of the submarine. "What is it, lieutenant?" he asked, bending down over the console.

"Well, sir, prior to the last men leaving the Twilight you ordered us to bounce sonar from right under the submarine as high as we could be safely to mask our presence and get an accurate reading, and we've got the results back. They show what's to be expected, plus one other detail ..."

"Radar's got the surface covered," the radar operator chimed in. "The Twilight, plus two Kuronan ships. No surprises there."

"And sonar confirmed that," the other man added. "Plus a detail. Our sonar bounced off an object here," he indicated on the sonar screen with his finger, "and it's not a whale. The sound is metallic, but radar's not picking anything up."

Captain Webster stood there for two seconds before standing up tall and looking to the conn officer. "Lieutenant, cut speed to five knots and go completely silent. Drop down to one hundred metres."

"Sir, we're already running completely silent at seven knots," the conn officer threw in.

"Then make us even more god damned silent," Webster threw back angrily. "Don't question my orders. Shut down anything you need to to make us run quieter and dive, god damn it. There's another submarine in these waters and I don't know who it is. It's not ours, it's not friendly, and it's not identified. It's definitely not a part of Silent Night. Odds are on a Kuronan submarine here to give them an extra edge, but I'm not ruling anything out at the moment. Now do it, lieutenant."

The younger officer nodded, cutting the spped down and hitting the lever to dive slowly.

"Also, lieutenant ... Try to avoid the other submarine if at all possible."

The younger man set his jaw grimly and nodded.

HNS Daybreak, Xanadou Sea

The captain looked over at his communications officer once again. "You're sure that's what the message said?"

"Yes, sir. I already told you twice."

"Why the hell would they want us to meet with a princess before we conduct a technically illegitimate rescue operation?" he asked incredulously. "This doesn't make sense. They have no reason to doubt us, except for the sub that washed up on their shores a little while ago, which wasn't even ours."

The communications officer shrugged. "I'm not an analyst, sir. I couldn't say."

The captain nodded. "I know, I'm just thinking out loud. Yes, send them a message back asking why and requesting a meeting at sea rather than on land to conserve time. Oh, and while you're at it, send one to Commodore Stokes as well."

The communications officer nodded and sent the following message:

To: Her Highness Princess Tomoyo
From: Captain Robert Fry, HNS Daybreak

We would be pleased to meet with you, but we request the meeting be conducted at sea on the way to retrieve the crewmen and submarine of the HNS Twilight, as every minute counts in the lives and security of the crewmembers of the HNS Twilight and also to prevent this from becoming an international incident. We feel it best to resolve this as quickly and quietly as possible. Thank you very much.

A similar message explaining the situation and the current actions was sent to Commodore Jeremy Stokes, commander of the Harakian submarine force in the area, onboard the fourth and last submarine in this quarter of the world, a Twilight-class missile carrier, the HNS Dawn.

The CENTRA-SPIKE PLANE contiued it's rounds. But the pilots and the crew we're getting suspiscous of mysterious radar signals that cropped up.

"Do you think we are being trailed?"

"It's quite possible sir, we aren't really invsible to radar. Technically this is a No FLY ZONE. "

"Send out a bogus radio signal. Tell them that we are a Geographical team, and we are mapping out the area. In the mean time, keep trying to pick up any signals or conversations that you can. We might not have all their phones tapped, but we have some fancy and expensive lisitning equipment."

"Sir."

River One, RC-135 Electronic Intelligence Gatherer,
Patrol Station Charlie

River One had copied the transmission from the Haraki submarine to the Princess as it had to be sent on an open channel due to the two nations not knowing each others codes. This information was quickly encrypted and burst uploaded to the communications satellite and sent to numerous places for evaluation along with all other mission data.

Major Topkin looked at the clock display and turned to the co-pilot.

“Time to head home. Inform the backseaters please.”

As the co-pilot turned on his intercom switch Topkin turned the control yoke until the aircraft was pointing directly away from the Kuronan coast. Whilst he had an autopilot to do this for him he preferred to do it himself as much as possible because his promotion, which he knew was coming, would mean he wouldn’t be in command of a squadron for a time as he served his time at the Defence Department’s Planning and Equipment division.

When the turn was completed he turned the auto-pilot back on and leant back in his chair letting out a long breath and closing his eyes momentarily. Flying this aircraft really was boring.

With River One leaving the area there was a temporary lapse in IH intelligence gathering assets as the next Snooper ELINT satellite was not due to pass over for another two hours.

IHS Neptune, Isomer Class Strike Carrier
Patrolling the Khaif Oil Lanes

The flight deck on Neptune was always a busy place, but today it was even busier than usual. Rear Admiral Kent had received a transmission from the Navy Command at Gillen and had then ordered the ship, and taskforce, to increase speed for sustained air operations.

Currently there was only a pair of F-22S Sea Raptors and a single E-2CI Hawkeye above Task Force 22 acting as a Combat Air Patrol. The only action that they had had the past three days was buzzing a Guffingford flag freighter at low level, mainly to be annoying but also to simulate an attack run.

Now on the flight deck were all twelve Sea Raptors of Naval Air Squadron 12 “The Black Devils”. Their mission for today was to provide air cover for the newest additions to Rear Admiral Kent’s command, two Gaul Class Missile Raiders that were steaming to catch the main force. They had been designated Taskforce 22.1 and it was the Black Devils task to provide them air cover.

Commander Will Davies, “Computer”, taxied his F-22S, the lead aircraft of the “Black Devils”, to the foot of Catapult #1 and waited there whilst several orange suited deck crew hooked his front wheel up to the system. The deflector ramp came up behind the aircraft and Commander Davies went to full throttle before saluting the crewman to his right signalling the takeoff. His last act was to remove his hands from the stick and hold the handles on the cockpit side for a split second as he was accelerated to 120knots in under two seconds.

Once blasted off the carrier he quickly took back the controls to the sleek grey fighter, throttled back off afterburner and began his climb to rendezvous with the tankers that would top up his squadrons fuel before their mission. Behind him the other eleven aircraft took off without any problems and followed their leader up getting into formation on him as they did so. The large grey carrier continued on its way with the rest of the Task Force slowly getting closer to Kurona.

IHS Alesia, Gaul Class Missile Raider
200 Miles South East of Task Force 22

Captain Crispin Bull was pleased with his new command. Being the brother of the Vice-President did have some perks, such as being able to command the first of the newest class of vessel in the IH navy. The Gaul Class were even newer than the much vaunted New England Carriers that the navy were so proud of.

And he preferred this to a carrier. With his 6 14inch main guns, five sets of 64cell VL missile systems, and four Mk.3 Sea Smart Launchers he had an awful lot of offensive firepower.Alesia and her sister ships were designed to work in pairs, which was lucky as only two of them had so far been completed, and were specialised Capital ship killers with their new AS-1B missiles. They also had a role as fire support for amphibious invasions and their suite of missiles could also be used against ground targets as well as naval ones.

The cruiser was now sailing at full speed, 39 knots, with her sister Massilia towards Phase Line Four a point about four hundred kilometres off the Kuronan coast. The IH government was worried about the presence of a large Soviet Leaders Fleet in the area, and so was sending in some of its own assets to “observe” the situation. That the fleet was made up almost entirely of capital ships and that these were capital ship killers if the need arose was purely coincidental. Or so they would tell any press enquiries.

The ping from the HNS Twilight hit the HMS Toddington and the noise heard from inside was one as if they had just run aground but without the vibrations. The noise made everyone on the submarine jump out of their skins, even the captain was surprised by the noise.

“Shit.” He said silently. “RADAR do you see anything?”
“Negative- RADAR shows nothing out of the ordinary.”
“Those bastards must have another submarine out there watching all of this the way we are. But with one exception- we are supposed to be here. They on the other hand are not.”
“Enemy then sir?”
“Most definitely. And I’m sure that if they saw us on the RADAR due to the ping, it was accidental. We’ve covered our tracks to the letter. I’m sure they were just following standard procedure and found us.”
“If they are the enemy sir, then they won’t stay and fight will they?”
“They won’t risk it son, they won’t risk losing the fight and having to surface, my guess is that they are fleeing under a silent running.”

The tactical officer cut in. His face was paler than usual and the SONAR ping hadn’t helped him one bit. He was the one that could spark off a possible war.
“Shall I lock on target sir?”
“We don’t know where they are my friend. Do they show up on RADAR?”
“No.” Said the RADAR operator looking back at his screen. “I could let out a SONAR ping to discover they’re position and from there tactical could attempt a weapons lock on.”

The captain pondered this thought for just a minute. Never in his long and illustrious history as a submarine captain had he ever been this close to another enemy submarine. Dare he risk the SONAR ping and being heard by every submarine in the local area but also being able to locate the enemy, or not to use the ping and end up losing the enemy.

“Orders captain?” asked the RADAR operator.
He now had the attention of the whole bridge. They weren’t directly looking at him but he knew they were listening to everything. If he got this wrong they’d all be killed or worse, discovered by either an enemy or allied power.
“Tactical… discontinue torpedo lock on the submarines on the surface and prepare to lock on to an under water target if we find one. RADAR ops… SONAR ping if you please… ONE ping only.”

The only too familiar sound of a SONAR ping left the submarine and swept through the sea bouncing off anything that it touched that was submerged, fish, debris and one thing that was metallic. The metallic noise wasn’t faint nor was it loud, but it showed up on RADAR. One hundred percent metallic and was almost definitely the same metallic source that sent out the first ping.

“I have them sir. First impressions would be a submarine that probably isn’t of allied origin. It is safe to say that we both know that we’re all here.”
“What are it’s course, speed and depth?”
“Course leads it, I assume, away from here and towards international waters, speed is approximately four to six knots and it is approaching a depth of around ninty0eight metres. All the call signs of a fleeing sub?”
“Looks like it! Helmsman! I’ll have the data of this sent to your screen and you may set a course of pursuit accordingly at seven knots to keep the silent running rating. Tactical! When course has been set and we’re level will give the order to attempt a torpedo lock on… but we’re not there yet, just get the weapons ready to go. If our torpedoes are launched and if they do hit, I want no duds! I want explosions!”

The bridge replied “Aye Sir!” and they went about their work faster than they were before. The captain’s inner tiger came out now. A dreaded tiger that people feared- it was his inner child in a bloodthirsty form, his pet, he always took it with him- especially if war might or is involved and now he let it loose and let it take control of him… his way of getting his way in war.

“People!! At the very least I want that sub to be forced to the surface!! Destroying it utterly is a minor victory!! Forcing it to surface to a total victory!! Lets shed some light on the situation!! TO WAR!!!”

His cries could be heard through the bridge and down the corridors into the dormitories, instilling fear but also pride and inspiration towards their captain. If they believed they could do it, then they could do anything. And every last man on board work two hundred percent whether they liked it or not until the unidentified sub was brought into the light.

OOC: The sonar ping was supposed to have been sent from almost right underneath the Twilight before all the crew got off, to mask the presence of the Midnight and pass it off as a ping from the Twilight, but whatever. I'll work with it.

Also, Kurona, the crew from the Twilight are still at sea on the HMS Raven, as the encounter isn't over yet, so I'm not sure who's in the prison carriages.

IC:

Onboard the HNS Midnight, making their way away from the site of the damaged submarine, Captain Webster finally breathed a sigh of relief. "Looks like we made it, boys-" he said, and was abruptly cut off by the rude awakening of the sonar ping bouncing fof the hull. He stood there in shock for a moment and then looked at his bridge crew. Several of them looked ready to panic. He immediately spun around to face the conn station. "Increase speed to ten knots, maintain running as silently as possible, drop to one-twenty five and change our course, immediately."

He turned to the radar station. "That submarine's the one that pinged us, I know it. I just fucking know it. What've we got on them?"

"Nothing, sir," the radar operator threw back. "We have their position marked but can't maintain knowledge of where they are without pinging them again and probably revealing our position. As is, we don't even know if they belong here. If they are Kuronan, which is the most likely alternative, then they have every right to be here and can run as quickly as possible to find and destroy us. We're trespassing, that's plain to say, and they will probably shoot us."

"Fucking hell, don't you have anything good to say?"

"No, sir. I try not to be too optimistic in situations like these. Our best bet would be to try and spoof them somehow. Do we have anything large and metallic on board?"

The captain paused for a moment, then looked around. "Everybody who's not doing something RIGHT NOW try and think up anything we could drop to try and spoof their sonar and buy us some time to escape to international waters. Any ideas."

"A bed?" threw out the conn officer as the submarine began its descent.

"No, we need a way to get it outside the ship without opening the hatches and flooding us."

"Sir, if we could spoof it multiple times would it be better?" threw out the weapons officer.

"Of course!" Webster threw back.

"What about a bunch of metal barrels? We have some left over in the mess, full of water and food."

"How would we get them outside?"

"Take a torpedo out of one of the bays, fill it with the barrels, and give the order to launch the torpedo. Propel the barrels into the water and then when they ping us they'll get about ten readings instead of one. Should at least buy us a bit of time, if not confuse the hell out of them."

Webster nodded and turned to a crewman. "Grab some men and get it done," he said, patting him on the shoulder. "As fast as possible."

"And if that doesn't work, sir, we could just drop a torpedo out into the ocean. Much bigger than a barrel. It might get a better response," the weapons officer added, eager to please.

"Thank you, that will be all."

A few minutes later, as the Midnight cruised along on its pathway to international waters, one of the aft torpedo tubes opened and a series of half a dozen large, metallic barrels were propelled out into the water. Several were filled partway with air and began to rise to the surface slowly. Others filled with water started sinking very slowly. All of them were moving towards the pursuing submarine as they did so.

HNS Daybreak, Xanadou Sea

"I don't understand," Captain Fry mused, reading the printout of the princess's message once again. "It's almost like she didn't get our previous message asking to meet at sea so we could recover the Twilight faster. She's sending s messages to meet her at a Kuronan coast guard station when the Twilight is still at sea."

He turned to the communiciations officer, who shrugged. "Sir, I've said it before and I'll say it again. I'm not an analyst. I can't account for the actions taken by those in power, and especially not by royalty."

Fry shrugged. "Send another message. Ask her to clarify her intent to meet on land. I'm just worried this will put us straight into the arms of those who may be hostile to us, especially if they recovered anything incriminating from the Twilight."

HMS Toddington

“Another Ping if you please… ONE ping only…” said the captain calmly as he watched the RADAR screen himself. He had suppressed his inner minion of a tiger and was back to his own, old self and was now anxious to hunt down the fleeing submarine.
The ping rang out like the last time and once again registering objects on the RADAR screen, the captain’s face sank slightly.
“What… the hell… are those things?”
“Metallic objects sirs, probably jettisoned by the fleeing submarine.”
“How could that be?”
“Aft torpedo tubes? My guess is small filing cabinet, barrels both empty and full and other torpedo sized metallic objects.”

A smile spread across the captain’s face in admiration of the captain of the fleeing sub.
“Cunning little bastard. Ha ha! Underwater chaff! Ingenious, sly but it works… but it’s not fool proof. What do you see son?”
“Well the bits of “chaff” are both ascending and descending depending on what’s in them and all the while they are flying towards us and we’re heading towards them.”
“Dangerous?”
"No not at all. They’re small objects and will do nothing but create a few scratches on the hull. But it has confused the RADAR a bit.”
He pointed out all the masses that had appeared on the RADAR screen with his finger.
“These small objects here, here, and around here is the debris that the enemy torpedoed a few minutes ago. This distorted the sound wave of the ping so we couldn’t get a clear reading of the target. However… this object here looks promising.” He pointed out a rather large but slightly distorted white lump on the screen. “This is I assume the submarine we are pursuing. The speed is approximately six to twelve knots- we can’t be sure- the course has deviated by about twenty degrees, depth hasn’t changed.”
“Why do I feel a “but” coming on?”
“Because of this shape here… about eight metres to port from the other large object. This one’s course has only deviated ten degrees and it’s depth has changed dramatically it’s gone up and down during the course of the ping. A difference between six and ten meters.”
“That can’t be the sub- must be fish- it must be!”
“Without another ping we won’t know sure which is which, but you need to make a choice now sir.”[i]

He pondered for a moment… fifty-fifty chance but logic played a part as well.

[i]“Helm- increase speed to twelve knots- try your best to maintain a silent running but that is more or less over now what with all the pings flying about. Set a course for the first target, the one that turned about twenty degrees and await further orders. RADAR ops, inform me when we clear the “chaff” and then give me a ping.”
“Aye sir!”
The captain then picked up the shipboards inter comm.

“All decks Yellow Alert. All decks Yellow Alert. Possible enemy submarine twenty degrees to starboard- Prepare for Battle Stations. This is not a drill - -REPEAT- - This is not a drill.”

The Midnight had made its way back up to 100 from the 125 metres it had dropped to, and seen the submarine still pursuing it, as if the underwater chaff had not done anything. Even as Captain Marshall thought, he had people below in the fore torpedo bay changing the torpedo's propellors to keep its speed about the same as the submarines. The smartest man on the ship, a budding physicist forced into the military by his father, had taken a hammer to the propellor and changed it drastically while they reprogrammed the propellor's speed to keep it between ten to twelve knots. Marshall watched the radar display and the blip that was the enemy submarine continuing to follow their course. He turned to the helmsman.

"Lieutenant, twenty degrees to starboard, if you please." The helmsman nodded and rotated the submarine. Marshall turned to the weapons officer. "Fire the torpedo." Turning back to the helm, he told him. "Ten degrees back to port as soon as the torpedo is away, then dive back down to 125. If this doesn't work we need to come up with another plan."

The weapons officer nodded and turned to his console, firing the torpedo from Torpedo Tube 1. Down in the torpedo bay, the men watched it out one of the portholes to ensure it was clear of the ship, then shouted into the communicator to the bridge "It's away," and the helmsman immediately turned the ship ten degrees back towards port and began a shallow dive back down to 125. The torpedo was away, and was their best shot of escaping. As the men down in the bay reloaded the tube with a regular torpedo, and prepared for if the worst should happen, back on the bridge they simply stood and watched the radar.

HNS Daybreak, Xanadou Sea

"This is Captain Robert Fry of the HNS Daybreak. The arrangements are perfectly acceptable. Welcome aboard the Daybreak."

He stepped up onto the top of the Daybreak, accompanied by his first mate and several other sailors, and looked acorss to the HNS Sonomi, where Princess Tomoyo and her entourage was waiting. He nodded to the sailors, who brought up a ramp designed for ship-to-ship transit, and stood it on the deck, slowly letting it come to a rest with one end on the Daybreak and one on the Sonomi, and Fry stood ready to welcome royalty onto this ship.

Beneath decks, in their quarters, the twelve CEF troops on the ship sat on their beds, carbines nearby, in case of trouble.

Tomoyo and her enterege we're escorted down below. She saw Cpt. Fry and she bowed to him respectfully.

"Greetings Captain, I am Princess Tomoyo Mikanu, I am the ruler of Kurona. I suppose you will want to talk about the captive subs, and people. "

HMS Toddington

“RADAR what do you see?”
“Two metallic targets now sir. One directly to our aft and one that is the fleeing sub. Wait there is another target next to target two, same speed and depth.”
“The one to our aft? It’s a risk I’m willing to take.”
“Risk?”
“ACTION STATIONS! ACTION STATIONS!Tactical! Are the aft tubes ready?”

He turned to the tactical officer who was busy pressing buttons and looking at his screens before his eyes.
“Aye sir. They were ready when you ordered them. I’ve got the tactical information here. Fire on your orders sir.”
“Fire aft torpedoes at the enemy sub pursuing us.”
There scooping sound of the torpedoes leaving the freezing cold hull of the submarine as the oxygen propulsion system kicked in and the torpedoes swam towards their targets.
“Firing three……firing four……Torpedoes in Tubes three and four are away sir.”
“Good. Helm, drop us to 125 metres and maintain a speed of eleven knots. I want to find that other submarine. UP PERISCOPE!”
The periscope whirred up and started looking through scanning the dark under waters of the sea. His eyes, for a fifty-six year old, were 20/20 vision. There were even rumours they were an impossible 22/20 vision because his sight was so good for his age.

“Captain! The two targets going at the same speed,” said the RADR ops “we to know which on to go for. One could be the submarine, the other could be anything- what shall we do?”
“Hold on son, I’m looking.” He scanned the dark depths of the sea looking for anything that might be a submarine. Wait, he saw something, the slightest of silhouettes in the shape of a submarine- but ever so faint, even for his eyes he could definitely say for sure what he thought he saw.
“Sir! They’re getting AWAY!!! We need orders now or we’ll lose them for good!”
“I…I…I see them! Helm, Port Twenty degrees standby tubes one and two. Give me a range as soon as possible, steer three zero zero!”
“Range three thousand sir- approximately.”
“Range three thousand… uhh…starboard two degrees… SHOOT… SHOOT!”
“Tubes one and two away sir! Torpedoes are running!” yelled the tactical officer. “The modified torpedoes are away. The first one will explode 2990 metres from us the next one will explode 2995 metre from us.” He continued.
“Us they won’t be directly hit by the torpedoes?”
“Negative, but it will bloody rattle their cage, quite literally. If this works the way we hope it will then they should suffer significant enough damage to surface their submarine.”
“Let’s hope so. Evasive manoeuvres, port thirty degrees at a speed of twenty-two knots. Get us out of here helm. If the torpedoes don’t do what they are supposed to do then we can’t catch up with them either way- what ever they did to get that target up on the RADAR worked. They lost us… to a point.”

There were suddenly two explosions, large ones at that.
“Torpedoes have detonated sir.”
“Let’s see what happened to them then… RADAR, verify our position and the condition of the enemy sub with a ping please… ONE ping only.”

The ping rang and bounced off the multiple things that were in the waters and continued back to the SONAR screen.

“RADAR? Is the target surfacing? Are they damaged? What is there status?”

"Shit, shit!" the radar officer screamed. "Sir, they've launched torpedoes!"

Marshall started shouting before the words had even left the man's mouth. "Take evasive action! Increase speed to maximum! Rise to fifty metres and turn forty degrees to port!"

As the submarine's propellors started working overtime and the ship began its mad sloping ascent, he grabbed the propellor and looked directly behind the submarine, at the torpedoes coming straight at their previous position. They were not rising fast enough to fully escape the torpedoes, but fast enough to avoid being utterly destroyed. Marshall watched, not even noticing he was holding his breath, as the torpedoes simply continued on their fateful voyage. The submarine had barely risen much at all by the time the torpedoes arrived at their diestination, at least not to Marshall's seeing, and the sub had just passed twenty knots.

He was waiting for the torpedoes to continue on, still watching them, when suddenly they exploded. He just had enough time to think "Pre-set timers" before the shock wave hit the submarine's tail end, and sent a massive shudder through the entire submarine.

Marshall righted himself from where he had ended up next to a bulkhead wall, steadying himself against it and putting a hand to his head, which was throbbing. "Oh, good god ..." he mumbled, his hand coming away from the back of his head with trace amounts of blood. "How's the ship?" he said, turning to the first officer, swaying slightly. The bridge seemed okay, although the shock wave had damaged the confidence of all the men onboard, and several who were standing had suffered similar fates as Marshall himself. The first officer rushed over to help him from where he had been sitting and grabbed Marshall's elbow to give him support.

"We're okay, sir. Damaged but okay. Reports aren't in yet.

Marshall nodded, and was helped to his chair where he sat down gratefully and waited as the ship's doctor arrived and went to work bandaging the back of his head and testing him for concussion. The first officer received several oral reports from crew members and relayed them on to the captain. The ship had suffered damage to the propellors and engine rooms, but the reactor was okay. All aft torpedo tubes were knocked, with several casualties but no fatalities, mostly in the rear of the ship. The first officer, having relayed this information, turned to Marshall. "Sir, shall we turn and fight?"

"No, no," Marshall replied, instinctively shaking his head and instantly regretting it, as a sharp pain shot through his skull. "We just run away. We get as fast as we can back to international waters, maintaining silent running once we've escaped this sub. God damn it, I wish we could turn and fight, but it would compromise the whole mission."

The first officer nodded. "Sir, we can only reach an estimated top speed of seventeen knots with this damage, and only five with definitely silent running."

"Then run at fifteen knots to get away, say, fifteen kilometres, and then drop to five knots for the rest of the trip. Right our course, helm," he said, trying to stand up and being pushed back down by the doctor.

"You have a concussion and possibly a cracked skull," he was informed. "You're going to stay sitting while I get a bandage on and then you're going to stay here until I say you can move while I go help those injured in the rear of the ship."

Marshall nodded numbly and let the doctor get on with his work.

HNS Daybreak, Xanadou Sea

"Yes, of coruse," Robert Fry responded. "I've been given the authority to speak on behalf of Commodore Stokes, the commander in the area, so we may speak freely.

"Now, as you know, the sub was sent offcourse by a navigation error and then surfaced because of damage sustained by the udnerwater eruption. Thanks to these circumstances, I don't see why there would be any problems with us simply retrieving the sailors and the damaged submarine, and leaving your waters. I'm sure we'd both rather avoid this turning into a diplomatic fiasco."

IHS Raider, Los Angeles Class 688I SSN
12miles away from Kuronan Territorial Waters

Captain Corry Amos was in the attack centre now after a very brief nap in his private quarters a scant ten yards away. He had been woken by the bell sounding that a message had been received from Fleet Command at Gillen. He was reading the message now.

To:SSN-401 IHS Raider
From: SUBCMND ATL
PROCEED TO GRD SQR 4561. RECON AREA AND REPRT TO FLT INTEL ANY RPT ANY FINDINGS. DO ALL TO ENSURE SAFETY OF YOUR CMMND. SIGNED SUBCMD.

He had barely finished reading it when the speaker next to his chair began speaking to him.

“Conn, Sonar”

“Go ahead Sonar.”

“Torpedo in the water, bearing two-six-four, range…..range is over thirty thousand.”

On hearing the first part of the message the hair on Amos’ neck had gone stiff, but the range meant that they were certainly not being fired at Raider. He settled down and decided to head to the sonar compartment which was only the other side of the bulkhead that he was looking at. Arriving there a few seconds later he looked at the waterfall display that the Chief Sonarman was carefully studying.

“What we got Chief?”

Chief Woodcote tapped a small line on the screen.

“Big bang from a torpedo, maybe two. Sound travels a long way, especially a big bang like that. I’m going back over a recording. Probably two, went off very close together, I’d score it as a kill or possibly a damage. Too far away to hear breakup noises and the water here isn’t deep enough for hull crush. Solid floor at 856feet. This background noise from just before could be the faint sounds of a sub hitting flank speed trying to get away from it, can’t tell for sure though. That’s close to where we’ve gotta go tho Cap’n.”

The Captain raised an eyebrow. “Your not supposed to know that Chief” but Amos knew there were no secrets aboard a submarine.

“Ok Chief keep me informed, we will take a roundabout route to the grid square to allow the tail to get as much data as possible.”

The TB-16D and TB-23 towed passive sonar arrays were strung out for about 2000 feet behind the submarine and were the principle means of collecting data whilst at sea. The huge BQQ-5E active sonar that took up the bow of the submarine was rarely used because Pings gave away your position to any half competent sonar crew as well as giving targeting data.

Amos went over that data quickly in his head as he climbed through the bulkhead and back into the Conn. He went to the chart table, standing next to a young lieutenant who was plotting the course and decided upon some orders. He wouldn’t bring the submarine to General Quarters yet, it was lunch time and he would rather have a well fed crew in ten minutes than an irritable one now.

“Officer of the watch, change our course to one-nine-four. Ten degrees downplane, make our depth six hundred feet, speed six knots.”

The submarine angled down at ten degrees, causing some mild discomfort for those crewmen in the galley who were just about to start on some hot soup. But that didn’t worry Amos in the Conn he loved the weird feeling of changing depth quite quickly, much to his crews annoyance. This time it did have merit though, there was a hard thermo layer at 500feet that would provide them with a good layer to hide under form surface ASW and would also give them very good sonar conditions for the passive array so they could figure out what was going on. Meanwhile he needed to reconfigure his weapons from the transit voyage so he pressed the intercom button for the torpedo room.

“Remove the harpoon from Tube four and replace it with a Mk.48.”

“Aye aye Skipper” came the reply.

The submarine now had three Mk.48 ADCAP torpedoes and a single harpoon in the tubes which was more adequate for dealing with the probable submerged threat that they may or may not face.

"A navigational error, while I understand that it can maybe get off course with an error. So let me see if I understood you right. Your Sub wandered into Xanadou b/c of a malfunction. But I would like to see the log records.
(She whispered to Yasuhiko) Have the Radar Outpost checked, see how long it was in Xanadou. (She resumed normal speech) I understand to think that we are overeacting. But the fact of it is, we are not a very powerful nation, we have many rich resources, and a very high standard of life. We are fearing invasion, and annexation, and we really don't like the fact of dangerous and powerful submarines carryin playing in our backyard for any X amount of hours. That is why it was met with hostility. You frightend us is all. Your sailors refused to speak, that would indicate they are hiding something, that is why we took them as prisoners. We wern't intrested in finding your technology, nor stealing it, we just wanted to know why a foreign sub carrying WMD's was in our waters. Now as for the return of your prisoners, b/f I agree, I'd like to read through the subs log records. Li do you have anything to say?"

"Nothing yet, milady."

"Very well. Yasuhiko?"

"No milady."

"Okay."

Captain Fry shrugged. "I'm afraid I'm not a miracle worker. I don't have the sub's log records because I'm not the captain of that sub, so I can't speak for them. However, I can give you information on the status of the submarine's mission. The HNS Twilight was part of a four-strong submarine force en route to The Damned People territory as part of a joint allied maneouvre, and a navigational error due to faulty computer programming prior to launch sent them off course into Xanadou. There they were damaged by the underwater eruption, and were forced to surface. My ship, the HNS Daybreak, was sent to retrieve them, and the other two ships in the fleet, the Midnight and the Dawn, carried on with their mission to The Damned People.

"As for our sailors refusal to speak, I'm afraid to say that is standard Harakian military policy not to speak to any other nations' militaries, especially not about faults within the Harakian military. Of course these flaws could be exploited by those with malicious intents against Haraki, and so it is our policy not to speak of such things to other nations no matter what the context. No offence is meant with such an action and certainly we don't want to offend anyone, but it's what we're trained to do, sorry. I as representative of the Harakian Navy hereby apologize for the incursion onto your territory."

He breathed an inward sigh of relief to himself at having completed such an impromptu speech on such short notice.

OOC: Radar can't pick up what nationality submarine sare from. They can (And I'm uncertain as to whether they can even do this) detect the submarines but can't identify them. Therefore the Centra-Spike report would indicate submarines and torpedoes beneath the waves but not the nationalities, as that would be quite impossible with modern technology.

OOC: Hate to press the issue, but I still find it hard to believe anybody could identify subs through linguistics/codebreaking, etc. without the subs sending radio signals to each other. It would be possible with a sample of voice, but with what's happening that would only be possible with bugs planted inside the submarines themselves. I'm not trying to be mean or nasty or anything, really I'm not, and I apologize if I come off like that at all.

IC:

Fry nodded gratefully. "That would make us very grateful to you. I'd carry on, but I'm afraid I'd simply be reiterating my previous statement. If you need to confer with other people via radio or however, perhaps it would be best if you returned to your ship, and I stayed here, and we accompany each other to our destination?"

He didn't say it out loud, but the unspoken sentence And also help to avoid foul play for either side, hung over the assembled leaders and aides.

The SONAR Ping returned to operators console as quickly as it had left, displaying up on his screen everything that was happening underwater with them. Two targets, both limping and one was higher than the other.
“Sir?”
“Go ahead Lieutenant.”
“Damage report on the to targets. The first one that was behind us. Sound waves registers three metres behind that target submarine, it must have seriously damaged their engines and rudder, and RADAR reports that they are surfacing the boat.”

Cheers erupted throughout the bridge at the news- the first anti-sub naval action they’d ever been in the last ten years had been an outstanding success.

“YES!! Excellent work Tactical- you’ve earned those stripes on your cuffs! Next target? What about that?”
“They survived sir, barely, but they did make it. According to the Ping they made a drastically quick evasive action one minute before the torpedoes detonated. They were about twenty metres away from the first torpedo when it exploded. I’d guess 20% damage to the engine propellers and a few injuries inside- but other than that sir…they’re fine.”

The bridge fell deathly silent. True, they had indeed forced a submarine to surface, but it was the wrong one- hardly the objective of shoving the enemy into the light. They didn’t get what they want. The captain’s face was calm with a hint of regret.

“Orders sir?” Asked the helmsman.
“I say we go back! Finish the miserable bastard once and for all while they are limping for international waters!” Yelled the Tactical officer with much enthusiasm in his voice.
The captain stood there motionless and with what seemed to be an emotionless look on his face. He was thinking, the mission was a success but not an outstanding one that would grantee the senior crewmembers medals.

“Helm… turn us around. Take us back towards the combat zone. I want the submarine on the surface a ready to make itself known to the international community. Tactical… armed the modified torpedoes—but this time I want them to do the same as last time but with SONAR tracking. Understood?”
“Very clear sir.”
“OKAY! Let’s finish what we’ve started! SONAR! One Ping if you please… only ONE ping.”

The now familiar ping noise rang out across the dark depths of the sea. It was only a few minutes before the results came back.
“Target! Bearing Zero-Four-Three- confirmed at a speed between ten and twenty knots…approximately. Possibly damage to the rudder so their turning speed and speed will be affected by the damage.”
“Sitting ducks?”
“Possibly, but they’ll be easier to catch and successfully surface than they would be undamaged. Also you can hope that some of their senior commanders on board might have been hurt by the explosion shockwaves.”
“Good! Helm! Set a course, information will be sent from RADAR/SONAR straight to your console. Speed twenty-six knots. Tactical, ready the tubes and get them ready to fire!”
“Tubes are all ready loaded sir! We’re just waiting for a target and for the tubes to fill with water and then they can go on your orders.”

The sleek black submarine began a sharp arching turn to bear on the crippled submarine and moved in for the kill.

OOC: Haraki is right, a Radar outpost would be able to monitor air and surface contacts, depending upon its search radar array. The only way of detecting submarines that I am aware of is through sonar or looking for the magnetic disturbance that a large metal body creates between itself and the earths surface. An array of sonar bouys or other sonar holders such as the American SOSUS line between Greenland-Iceland-UK would be able to detect some submarines, but the amount of bouys and sonars needed would be colossal, as would the staff to man a facility to interpret all of that data and monitor it. As for identifying the nationality of the submarine that would be very very hard, voice communications would be the only way that I can think of but they would be heavily encrypted and probably sent by burst transmission by a dish locked onto a satellite, not just broadcast for anybody to hear (that depends on the nation though). You could probably identify the type of submarine by blade count, number of props (Red October has two, American fast attack boats have one), reactor noise, generator noise etc and from that you could make a guess as to the nation owning it, but unlike in real life hundreds of nations use 688’s and soviet equipment whilst there are also a multitude of home-grown submarines that one nation may never have stumbled across before. Sonars can also detect the noise that comes from opening the outer doors on torpedo tubes and flooding said tube before the door is opened. This isn’t meant to be rude or anything either, just thought I would state what I’m working off I’m comparison to what you guys use.

Oh and a Happy Xmas to everyone!!

IHS Raider, Los Angeles Class 688I SSN
Just entering Kuronan Territorial Waters

Amos’ gamble that the thermal layer would give him good passive sonar conditions had paid off, the conditions meant that he could hear just about anything that happened. Unfortunately that didn’t include anything that happened above the layer and it appeared that all of the action must have been happening there as for the past twenty minutes his sonar room had had nothing, not even a whale. So he had to go back up.

“Officer of the Watch, lets make our depth four hundred and ninety feet, gently up please. Maintain current course and speed. Sound General Quarters”

The General Quarters bell went off and crewmen ran to their assigned posts, their feet not making much noise on the rubber deck thanks to their rubber soled shoes. Amos didn’t want to bring them to Battle Stations just yet, although being unsure of what was above the layer perhaps that was a better call. But he had made his decision now, he would have to wait and see if it was the right one.

From the navigational charts, that were being constantly updated by two Petty Officers under the XO’s supervision, Corry could tell that they were only just passing into Kuronan Territorial waters. So far they had no contacts to speak of, but a feeling in his gut told him that it wouldn’t last.

“Weapons, be prepared for a snap shot from Tube Four if we come up on something unfriendly.”

They were not at war, at least not in this part of the world, and therefore he could only fire if he was fired upon by any submarine or surface vessel. He had counter measures and several decoy’s to deploy if that happened as well as a good stock of torpedo’s to shoot back at any aggressor. But his orders were to reconnoitre the area and report back, he assumed that meant avoid contact if at all necessary, but contact was right where he had to be.

IC:

Captain Marshall slowly rose to his feet, a hand on his bandaged head, and turned to the First Officer. "Commander, how are we doing?" he asked groggily. The doctor had left and told him not to leave his seat, but Marshall had never been one to trust those who told him what he could or couldn't do.

"Slowly making our way away. Our primary repairs are being done on the rear torpedo tubes and engines for the moment, to try and get us away. Also, sir, good news. Remember before we entered these waters Commodore Stokes informed us a task force was being put together? Well, good news. Given estimates in place from when they left before we entered Kuronan waters, the Dragoon, Fortune and Arkia are getting close. Within at least an hour, maybe two, we have the potential to call in air cover from the two carriers if it becomes absolutely necessary."

Marshall shook his head. "If at all possible, we won't. We're making good speed away from ehre, especially since we don't appear to be being followed. And since they don't know who we are, calling in air support would blow our entire cover. If we make it to international waters we can lose them in the shipping lanes, but if we bomb Kuronan ships in Kuronan waters we provoke a war, no two ways about it. That's also pretty much what we're looking at it if we're captured. From an objective point of view, it's better for the nation if we are utterly destroyed than if we're captured."

The first officer seemed slightly scared hearing his captain talk like this, as if he was actually considering destroying the submarine and all its occupants. "But it won't come to that. We will escape. Still, I'm worried about our status. That sub captain was damned good, and I don't believe he would give up the chase that easily, not with the determination he was showing. Fill two fore torpedo tubes with more chaff. One filled with smaller stuff, one with another banged-up torpedo."

"Sir, Midshipman Avis was wounded in the torpedo strike, and he was the one that engineered the torpedo damage that made it work well."

Marshall scowled. "Well, then find the people who worked with him on it and duplicate the thing. If Avis can do anything to help, get him to. I don't care how wounded he is, the survival of everyone onboard is more important than his health."

The first officer saulted. "Sir," and ran off to orchestrate the plan. Five minutes later, two of the submarine's fore tubes opened and out slid more of the barrels, cabinets and such that had made up the first chaff. Out of the second tube came a banged-up torpedo travelling about ten knots, and once donw the submarine dropped to turned ten degrees to port, and continued on its course.

However, this torpedo was different. It had been engineered more by the wounded Mr. Avis and the ship's tactical officer, so that it would slow down to three knots over the next five minutes and then explode. The resulting explosion would disturb all the water around it and also the chaff that had fallen behind, create a massive screen of dust and disturbed water, and create the illusion that the submarine had been destroyed.

OOC: So here's what's supposed to happen. The torpedo explodes in a few minutes after the sub's gotten far enough away so it's not damaged by it. The resulting explosion from the torpedo makes it seem as if the sub itself was destroyed, and also disturbs all the water around it so that rocks, fish and other such things are flailing around in the water for a while, and propels the chaff every which way. The torpedo will also disturb the chaff and send it every which way, preferrably making it seem as if the chaff is more pieces of the submarine than barrels and cabinets. Of course, that's in a perfect world.

HMS Toddington

“Oh good God.” Gasped the RADAR operator. The look on his face was one between horror and amazement, possibly (If at tall possible) both. He gazed at his screen seeing a huge amount of white specks both bright and extremely faint spread all over the southern part of screen.
“What is it son?”
“This…this…debris? That’s all I can say sir, this debris has just appeared. It makes no secret on it’s presence.”
“The sub we fired at...it’s destroyed?”
“So it would seem.”
“I don’t believe it… the timing on the torpedoes was perfect! SONAR even told us they did a drastic, but quite amazing series of evasive manoeuvres!!”
“I understand that sir but the RADAR shows debris.”
“[sigh]…Helm… ETA till we are a thee thousand metre radius from the target submarine?”
“At this speed… five to ten minutes.” Replied the helmsman.

The captain turned back to the RADAR operator with a look of hope in his eyes.

“Right then laddy- they’re cripple, weak, suffering from medium damage and our for the taking. He’s what I have.”
“Assuming they WEREN’T destroyed.”
“I’m not giving up yet!! Look, This is no ordinary submarine captain we’re dealing with here. He is elite, well trained and experienced, he knows his submarine as well as an old father knows his son. I don’t know this guy personally, but I do know he is an ingenious captain with an excellent tactic brain. And if I know that, then I know he’s done it again.”
“He’s done what? Sir.”
“That troublesome bastard is making it difficult for us.” He pointed to the debris on the screen. It arched out slightly more south on the screen than north- once again his eyes didn’t fail him. “My guess, IF he wasn’t destroyed, that it is our good friend chaff again.”
“How so? Look at it! There but be bloody tons of the stuff!”
“Exactly! To make it look like the submarine was destroyed. There is certainly no shortage of the debris on RADAR. Either that or it was vaporized due to the core exploding… but that is impossible- we’d need a direct torpedo hit to the engine room for that to happen.”
“So how did the debris end up like that?”

The tactical officer swivelled round on his chair with the answer in his mouth.
“A torpedo? Either that or the submarine was destroyed.”

The captain smiled a friendly smile.
“Excellent… if you keep this up I’ll recommended you to the Admiralty for promotion. Yes… and torpedo set to detonate at precisely the right moment to spread the debris and other things in a spherical direction.”
“Of course!”
“But as you say… this could be just a wild goose chase. The enemy may well have been destroyed. It is either that option or the other one… There is NO alternative option. And I am an optimistic man! HELM!! Maintain course for the debris. If it is as small as it is seen from RADAR it poses a negligible risk to the submarine or us.”
“So we continue on our course sir?” questioned the helmsman.
“Aye, we do. Keep the tracking torpedoes loaded but decrease speed to twenty knots to avoid any un-necessary damage to the hull.”

“Aye captain, twenty knots!”

The submarine continue forwards straight towards the debris field, it was dense, almost dangerously dense. If the molecules of dust and small pieces had been at least half a metre large then the chaff could easily have posed a serious risk to the submarine and the crew.

“Entering the cloud sir.” Reported the helms man.
“Roger that Lieutenant. Steady as she goes. SONAR, ping please and One ping only- and ONLY when we’ve cleared the cloud of chaff by twenty metres… By my estimates the enemy must be about eight thousand metres away from us.”
“And we’re closing. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know that those explosions damaged their engines, we can still out run them- and out gun them.”
“We’ve cleared the chaff.”
“RADAR?”

The operator scanned his screen and the underwater noise levels in the sea.
“Negative sir… they’ve gone, either that or they are limping away on a silent running.”
“I vote option two.. as I said, I’m always optimistic, also…assume the impossible, a contradiction in terms sometimes but those are unlikely days. A Ping please, one Ping only.”

The ping rang out and it took a surprisingly long time to get the results the operator wanted.
“Target! Bearing Zero-Zero-Twelve, minus nine degrees elevation, speed between thirteen and twenty knots.”
“Tactical Ready torpedoes. Make sure they use SONAR tracking and pre-detonate five and ten metres from the enemy submarine. Launch when we are five thousand metres from the enemy submarine.”

“Aye sir!”

Sonar was picking up several signals. "What on earth?" Said Murdock. He picked up the phone. A crew member picked up on the Kurona
"Kurona.

"This is Murdock, we have hostiles, bellow us, closing in!" Alarms blared, "Battle Stations, Man your Battle Stations. This is not drill. Code Blue, Code Blue, Man your battle stations. This is not a drill." The sailors scrambled around to get armes and munitions ready.

"Get the Sonomi with Tomoyo out of the hot zone, and back to the coast! Arm the AA Cannons, get the depth charges ready, put every man on each side of the deck armed."

Several men pass down armes and ammunitons to eachother. A cart loaded with depth charges is ran down the narrow hallways, and given to several men.

The Bridge crewmen look out at the horizion and at the RADAR and SONAR.

Aboard the Daybreak, Yasuhiko whispers to Tomoyo. "we have a situation, we are told to evacuate."

Tomoyo stands up and bows. "Please forgive me, I have to leave." She's escorted to the Sonomi.

After the sub surfaced

The engine crew said to the captin after seeing the damage "We can't go faster than 20 knots with the damage.

The captin with the look on his face then said "Send an encrypted message to the sub Glavakech and tell them to meet us 25 meters from this location."
The message was sent.
The Captin said "Down 20 meters

The captin of the Glavakech was looking in the parascope when the message officer said "We have a Message from the Red October."

Captain Marshall nearly jumped out of his skin when the sonar ping hit his submarine once again. "Motherfucker!" he screamed. "I was sure that would fucking do it! This guy must have the intuition of a witch and the god damned instincts of a tiger."

"Sir, we have to do something," the tactical officer responded. "We can't fight. The only way for us to get away is for them to give up the chase, for whatever reason they may choose."

"Any convenient rocky outcroppings around for us to hide behind?" Marshall growled, glaring at the radar operator, who shook his head. "No, sir. We're on our own."

Marshall turned back to the tactical officer. "How long until an aft torpedo tube is back online?"

"Ten minutes if we're lucky. Ten days if we're not. We have no idea even how bad the damage is to them right now, but our engineers are working on it."

"So were we to fight we would have to turn around?" Marshall asked, already dreading the response."

"Yes, sir," the tactical officer responded glumly. "And you know we wouldn't last long against an undamaged submarine in our current state."

"Reinforcements?" Marshall asked, giving his entire hope for the sub's future in the one word.

"As I've said, sir, we're nearly within air cover range of the Dragoon and Fortune, and the only other combat-ready submarine in the area that we know of is the Daybreak, at least several hours away. We're lucky we're fairly close to international waters. At maximum possible speed it would take us maybe four hours to reach our destination, international waters' shipping lanes. On silent running it'll take at least half a day."

"Fuck, fuck, fuck," Marshall muttered, ;eaning forward and putting his head in his hands. "How the fuck are we going to get away without revealing our nationality? We can't send radio signals asking for help, can't surface, and we can't risk blowing them up with a plane strike. I suppose our best bet would be to dive as far as possible and try and establish ourselves behind some cover, sit there, and avoid sonar pings. Our worst bet would be to turn our course every time they ping us and speed up as fast as we can but quietly, so unless they start pinging like crazy then they can't hit us easily with torpedoes because they will never know exactly what we're doing."

The tactical officer just shrugged, but Marshall seemed determined. "Since we've already determined there's no cover anywhere near, increase speed to 8 knots. That should bring us into international waters in six to seven hours, and maintain silent or near-silent running. Helm, adjust submarine course 50 degrees to port and ascend to eighty metres."

"Yes, sir, fifty degrees to port and twenty metres ascent. Speed increased to 8 knots."

You bastard, Marshall thought. If I can keep avoiding your torpedoes, will you give up or will you just keep on coming until one of is on the bottom of the ocean and dozens of innocent mens' lives have been lost, you magnificent bastard? You're a fucking genius and as persistent as hell, but I hate you all the same. Go to hell.

The submarine began another series of evasive maneuvers, this time bent purely on avoiding sonar to avoid torpedo strikes.

HNS Daybreak, Xanadou Sea

Captain Fry had watched Tomoyo get back on her ship the Sonomi and leave without actually agreeing to anything, and now he was worried. She had elft in a hurry, anxious about something. Now he didn't know what to expect. He was on his way to rondezvous with the Twilight and retrieve it without knowing whether they would face open arms, or the barrel of a gun once they arrived. For now he simply tried to keep their profile low and their image unthreatening. They remained on the surface, travelling twenty-five knots, on a direct rondezvous course with the HMS Raven and its cargo the Twilight.

Agricultural Fishing Boat 5 Miles from the hot-zone Less than two from the Stevid-Haraki Pursuit

A tiny sail boat made it's way back from a long fishing trip out at the open sea. Onboard a little girl with read hair looks at the crystal clear water. "Areana" Her father called out to her. "Becareful hon. Don't fall over board."

"Okay daddy."

He noticed the boat was going a tad bit slower than normal. The wind was strong, he looked at the clear sky, no sign of a storm to cause big waves. And of course the ocean was as smooth as glass. "Must be that big metal case I'm trying to haul." The case was a fish case given by a freind. He decided to just go ahead and cut it. It was empty, and he wanted to get back to port before it would actually storm. The cased dropped to the sea bottom with a booming thud.

The plane was back in the air making another round. The SONAR Masters picked up on the bomming echo "What on earth?" He looked at the scops, it had all the read outs of a sub discharging weapons. Or was it?

Radar ops and sky scopers looked at the waters bellow. They couldn't see bellow the water but they had a good look out of the serface. "Looks like a civilan vessel is going into the hot-zone. "If it's not careful it's going to have a torpedo shot right through it."

"Their have been cases in which a ship got in the way as cross traffic just a split second after the other sub just passed through, just as the pursuing shot it's torpedo."

"Well if you see smoke and flames coming from that vessel, start snapping."

OOC: Guys, we're definitely going to have to trigger a war somehow. I'm really enjoying what we're doing right now, but we have to face up to the fact that we're all trying to avoid the war, with the exception of Stevid. I think the best chance we had was when the Soviet Leaders' sub surfaced, and I was looking forward to a provoked war between Kurona/Stevid and Soviet Leaders, with the rest of us being drawn in by international incidents and so on. But then the sub miraculously recovered, submerged and carried on at 40 knots ...

So how about something else? We need something to draw us into war, and right now we appear to have resolved all current problems diplomatically. So how about something else happens, something along the lines of a missile strike against a ship nearby. Unless, of course, the fisherman's boat is destroyed by a torpedo from Stevid, I imagine that would be enough to provoke a war against somebody. I imagine all our governments are a bit touchy, but I'm thinking a missile strike from Kuronan territory against one of my ships in the nearby taskforce, or from a Soviet Leaders' ship against one of the surfaced submarines or one of the Kuronan ships would be enough to spark it. I'm not trying to force anybody's hand, but I'm just thinking it would be good if we actually got the war rolling sometime. Especially since Tomoyo has now said she will release all prisoners, if something were to happen and she suddenly backtracked on her word that would provoke something also.

Although it will be a shame to have this underwater cat-and-mouse be over. I'm really enjoying this.

IC:

Captain Fry, his hands folded under his chin supporting it, watched the transmission from Princess Tomoyo saying she would release all prisoners. Fry nodded and sent back a message telling her "We are currently on an intercept course with the current trajectory of the HMS Raven, which is towing the HNS Twilight and has the sailors onboard. With your permission we will draw up alongside, take over the towing of the submarine, transfer the sailors, and leave your waters again."

And with that the submarine carried on its course, travelling at twenty knots on an intercept course that every minute drew it closer to the Kuronan shore.

A Harakian radar plane (Like AWACS) flying in the area providing radar cover for the naval task force, periodically being refuelled by planes from the HNS Fortune, sent a message down to the HNS Dragoon, the flagship of this task force. The communications officer turned to Vice-Admiral Barkley. "Sir, we have a message from the radar bird above us."

Barkley nodded and looked over from his admiral's seat. "What is it?"

The other officer rose and brought a printout over to him. Barkley read:

Major problem. Unidentified damaged submarine surfaced near HNS Twilight. ICBMs armed.

"Jesus..." Barkley breathed out, and him not even a religious man. "This is a major problem. ICBMs could strike major cities in Haraki and other aggravated countries from here on a minute's notice?"

He turned to the captain of the vessel. "Captain, this unidentified submarine is the single greatest threat to world peace and security involved in this little 'incident'. Get a flight of attack planes ready to destroy that submarine on a moment's notice. I want six planes in the air at all times fully armed and capable of sinking it on five minutes' flight. We're close enough in international waters we can reach it, and stop the deaths of thousands of civilians. Do nothing until I give the order, simply keep six attack planes in the air at all times."

“Conn, Sonar”

“Go ahead Chief”

“Another explosion Cap’n. Roughly the same bearing as the rest. We got a small readout on that one, probable warhead detonation on a torp, no secondary explosions.”

“Very well Chief. Keep me informed.”

Amos turned back to the charts. Flat bottom, nowhere for any combatants to hide behind. Maybe a wreck or two, but they weren’t shown on his chart and would sure as hell wreck someone’s day if they strayed into one at ten knots. His eyes continued to move whilst he thought and they settled on the golden clock hanging above the bulkhead to the sonar room. Time to report in. He made to leave the room to the adjacent communications centre.

“XO has the Conn.”

“Aye Sir. XO has the Conn”

Amos walked through the bulkhead door into the communications centre where two quite bored operators were sitting. As the submarine was no longer at General Quarters and was not on the surface they had nowhere else to be at the moment. When the Captain entered they abruptly stopped talking and quickly tensed up.

“At ease Sailors. I need to make out a report to be sent to Gillen when we head up topsides in a few minutes. One of you wanna prepare it to go?”

Both scrambled and got out a piece of paper and pen, which the senior of the two picked up and began writing as the Captain spoke.

“Nearing station. Sonar reports numerous explosions near to our target patrol station. Cannot. Repeat Cannot close to designated patrol station without becoming engaged. Request instructions on how to proceed. End”

He quickly read through the notes made.

“Good. We are heading to the roof in a minute, have it ready to send as soon as possible.”

The Captain then disappeared to allow the two men to put the message into the computer which would then encrypt it and send it once they raised the ESM mast. Exactly a minute later the Captain was seated back in his chair in the attack centre watching the hands on the clock turn.

“Sonar, Conn. Report all contacts”

“Conn, Sonar. We have no contacts at this time.” the Captain knew this but wanted to make sure, and not to mention follow proper procedures, before heading to periscope depth.

“Very well. Officer of the watch, ten degrees on the bow planes take us up to periscope depth. Maintain current speed please. Take us to General Quarters.”

Again the bell rang as the men raced to their stations despite the ten degree angle of the deck. In the conn Captain Amos stood and moved towards the oiled steel tube that held the periscope assembly and optics. As the submarine began to level out he bent over slightly and spoke.

“Up scope”

A Chief Petty Officer pulled the level and brought the periscope up with a hiss of compressed air until it was just two feet below the surface of the water. As he did so the Captain took the flip down handles and put his eyes to the lense, turning the scope around 360 degrees as he did so.

“Ok Chief no shadows, take her up another three feet.”

Again the assembly hissed as the periscope went up as ordered. Amos did another 360 degree sweep and found nothing.

“Raise the ESM and communications masts.”

Both were raised. The ESM reported any surface radar contacts to the radar technicians below who sat in the attack centre, whilst the communications mast sent the Captains message to a communications satellite and from there back down to earth at the monstrous satellite receivers at Gillen Naval Base. As that message went up so a weather report came down to the submarine. With a final look around the area Amos ordered the scope back down, slapping the handles back into place as it began to hiss an operation that was completed by the time he had stood back up fully.

“Officer of the Watch, take us back down to four-hundred and twenty feet. Ten degree’s on the dive planes. Increase speed to six knots” he turned to the radar technicians. “Get anything?”

“[i]Aye Sir. Two Surface search radars on bearing two-eight-four and two-nine-one respectively. Range is about right for that to the coast. Also got two surface search contacts coming from about half way between us and the coast, computer is attempting to classify them now. Probably coastal defence vessels. Maybe an Air-Search radar from that location as well, although that is only a possible, our systems can’t get that high up to see.”

“Good work. Sonar have any contacts at that bearing?” this question to the XO

“No Skipper. If they have PrairieMaskers operating we wouldn’t be able to hear em until we were within ten miles.”

“Correct XO.” The captain was handed the freshly printed weather report. “Ain’t gonna be able to detect a Masker system soon either. Storm coming in pretty soon. Just what we need. That will degrade our sonar performance by 20% at least.”

“Aye Sir. But there’s too.”

“Yes XO. But we need to be able to hear them without getting involved. They are having a merry time shooting up the ocean with torpedoes and god knows what else whilst we have to observe and report back. Storm should pass after about six hours but we will have to close in and try and maintain a contact during that time. One of these sub’s out there must’ve been damaged unless they are all firing WWII straight line fish or something. That reminds me, I’m going down to the torpedo room to watch the inspection. Call me if anything comes up. Anything.”

“Aye Aye Skipper.”

OOC: We're all trying, especially after a little prodding along. Nobody's gonna pull the 'At least I tried' stuff, no sympathy for any of you or me either ...

As far as I can tell, and adding in some information to fill in details and make it make more sense, the Soviet Leaders' sub that was severely damaged surfaced afterwards, assesed damage and tried to dive again. After a few minutes they realized this was impossible and surfaced again, before their captain gave the very dangerous order to arm the ICBMs in case of attack.

In terms of the cat-and-mouse between you and me, you're still chasing my sub but we now have a rather large fishing case and fishing boat in between our two subs, which both gives my sub a way out and gives us a dead Kuronan fisherman and therefore a legal pretext for war.

On the diplomatic front, Kurona agreed to return all prisoners and then issued a message claiming all diplomatic talks were useless, which will lead to interesting results at the other end of my sub's journey when they simply expect an easy transfer. In fact, this Kuronan message is a good lead-in to war on its own. It makes it seem as if Kurona is preparing to break off relations and attack us all.

That's mostly inference. So as far as I can tell, we have three good causes for war in the works:
1) The impending doom of a Kuronan fishing boat
2) The Kuronan threats to break all diplomatic contact, arrest everybody and thus provoke a war for the diplomatic insult
3) The Soviet Leaders' armed ICBMs aimed at Kuronan port cities. This one is especially good because I have planes standing by to destroy it if it shows signs of firing, which would definitely lead to a war.

I think we can just carry on for now. Hope this cleared something up for all of us. Sorry for the OOC post.

"Motherfuck!" the captain screamed. Barkley's head snapped around.

"What is it?"

"The submarine's launching an ICBM!"

Barkley's response had no time for thought. He had made his decision when he had discovered they were preparing to launch. "Send the planes to sink it, NOW."

The communications officer, without waiting for confirmation from the captain, grabbed his microphone, switching to the network for the six attack planes. "Raven Flight, your mission is a go. Repeat, sink the bastards."

The planes had turned from their circling pattern some kilometres away from the carrier towards the submarine, rocketing away at supersonic speeds towards the submarine. They were not fast enough.

As the lead plane came into sightline of the submarine, the six pilots watched as an ICBM made its way out of the submarine, a brilliant flare of white light following it from its engine. The nose camera in the lead plane caught incriminating evidence: A flag painted on the side of the ICBM, that of the nation of Soviet Leaders. As the images were transmitted back to the HNS Dragoon, the six planes closed on the target and launched their devastating payload. Four of them closed to eight kilometres and launched a total of eight devastating Ranger missiles, each carrying 150 kg of explosives in their warhead. The other two came much closer, within two kilometres of their intended target, before dropping large-bore torpedoes and peeling off to rejoin their four other colleagues, heading back to the carrier.

Back on the bridge of the HNS Dragoon, Barkley bit his lip. He may well have just started a war. Then he saw the transmitted images from the plane, and smiled inwardly. The ICBM was not Kuronan, which emant it was trespassing in Kuronan waters. The ICBM was therefore an illegal launch, and although his planes had illegally entered Kuronan territory, it still meant they had not triggered the war themselves, merely tried to ease it once it was already an eventuality. It felt as if a great weight had been lifted from his shoulders.

The ICBM almost in slow motion made it's way to the port city. The second larges city in Kurona (outranked by Sonomi) the wooded city would be no match for a powerful longrange missle. Something happend, it landed with out exploding. The various Kuornan soldiers looked in curiosity. But suddenly, the war head changed it's light cencor colors. And boom! In Sonomi the explosion could be felt. Tomoyo sprang to her window, and saw a massive fire ball erupting from the city several miles away. She fell to her knees. "Arrest all Captured Subcrewmen! No aliens leave Kurona!"

CENTRA-SPIKE

Everything was off the charts, Alarms we're blaring. "Reports of a massive explosion, non nuclear, what is going on? Flight let me get back to you."

Tidal City

The city is erupting in flames and explosions. People scrambel for their lives. Most get swept up in the massive fire storms. Buildings that have caught fire collaps. Debries falls onto unsespecting women, children, men, soldiers.

CENTRA-SPIKE

The people on the plane try to figure out the source of the explosion. Then someone looks out the window.

"Command, I am seeing a massive streak of flames out side my window.

K.S.S. OKA

Several of the people on board listen.

"It's firery, there seems to be black smoke towering up from it."

Centra-Spike

"It has to be the nearest port city."

AP Bulltien:

Woman Telecaster: "A costal city of the Principality of Kurona has been bobmbed. It's not sure how long ago, how big, obviously it was massive, to create this kind of damage."

Overlapping with Male Telecaster: "The situation started when a sub was captured just off the coast of Kurona, some sources say when the Princess refused to let the captured me go, it was decleration of war."

Ovelapping with another Female Telecaster: "The Princess is said to make as statement, and a decleration of war against the culprits who lauched the missles..."

Male News Caster: "The Republic of Kanami, an ally to Kurona, has been reportedly doing an intel run around the Xanadou sea, weather or not it will follow it to war is still to be deterimined. "

Female News Caster: "It is possible that the Republic will cite the ICBM launchers on Crime against Humannity in the International Court. A reproted 12,000 people are dead, civiians amongst them"

Tomoyo stands before the large press. Cameras flash in her eyes, bright light glared on her.

"Yesterday, December 29, 2005 a date that will live in infamy (ooc: Getting a little Rosevelt here ;)) when our nation was brutally attacked by sub carrying ICBMs, from the Soviet Leaders. It's apparent all diplomatic talks failed, and now the cold war has escalted into a hot one. But this action can not be justified. Thousands have died, I am sad to say, and thousands more may die. We have endured mother nature, and we will endure Military Machines. We will not go quietly into the night, and we won't vanish without a fight. Therefore I herby Declare War on the Soviet Leaders."

Foreign Minister Jonathan Friedman stepped up onto a podium and cleared his throat. He shuffled the papers in front of him, anything to keep his eyes away from the eager crowd below, just waiting to tear him to pieces. "As you know," he began uneasily, wondering whether his statement would take Haraki into a war or not, "we were recently involved in an incident in Kuronan waters. One of our nuclear submarines drifted off course due to a navigational error and was subsequently damaged by an underwater volcanic eruption. The submarine we sent to retrieve it was met graciously by our host nation, and we carried on our way. We also sent a naval task force to retrieve the submarine once it was out of Kuronan waters.

"Now tragedy has struck. A ballistic missile was launched from a foreign submarine against Tidal City in Kurona, killing over 10,000 people and injuring countless others. In response to the submarine arming its missiles, we scrambled a flight of fighter-bombers, and once the firing sequence started their mission was a go. They destroyed the hostile submarine, but were too late. The missile had been launched already, and photographic evidence reported this was a submarine from the nation of Soviet Leaders."

This was the bombshell. He had to finish up and move on to the second, possibly worse, part of his speech, involving attacking those he had just made a martyr of. "I hold in my hand," he shouted, holding up printouts of the pictures taken, "the evidence that proves that was Soviet Leaders' missile. I hold in my hand an unprovoked act of war against a neutral nation. I hold in my hand, ladies and gentlemen, an act of betrayal."

His eyes dropped to the floor as he changed the subject of his speech. "But there is something else staying our hand in this matter. Princess Tomoyo of Kurona promised us our sailors would be set free, and now she has gone back on that promise. We have begun diplomatic procedures to get back our sailors, who had nothing to do with the tragedy her nation is experiencing now, except to be part of a force that tried to stop it, but still she is imprisoning our sailors and impounding our property, sailors and property she already promised to return.

"Given the dangerous state of the world in this area, and in this matter, the Chief of Staff has ordered mobilization of multiple divisions of troops for twenty-four hour standdown. Another naval taskforce is being assembled, also for twenty-four hour standdown. Should this erupt into a full-scale war, Haraki will be ready to stand up for what is right. That is all."

He turned and walked off the podium, amidst a chorus of shouts and screams for his attention, and walked through a door at the back of the stage area. The crowd slowly dispersed, and Jonathan looked back at his speech, and the pictures of the devastation in Tidal City and the Soviet Leaders' missile. Then he crumpled them up angrily and threw them in the garbage.

On the Flag Ship of the Main Battle Group
"Sir, The council did not order the lunch of any nuclear missles in the area and are going to send 1 more battle group and the Marshal of the Navy Alex, Alkov is going to take over."

The sailors of the battle group know that the council did not order this and that the Red October was distroyed and that the captin of that sub has thrown there country into war and that they would have to fight.

On the Glavakech
The captin spoke to the crew he said "Men we have done a great thing our nation will come out of this victorous! and when this is all over we will be leaving on mansions and we will be compared to the Great Generals of the orignal council For the Mother Land."

the sub was running silently they were going to go around the fleets and fire a second missle at the capital they were all hoping the Marshal Alkov was not going to come with his fleet this could get deadly The captin knopw there was one fleet commander who would help them.

OFFICAL MESSAGE FROM SOVIET LEADERS

"They want to see the pictures?" Jonathan Friedman snarled. "Let them see the damn things. I don't believe a word coming out of their mouths. We have photographic evidence that their submarine destroyed an entire city in Kurona, they might as well see it."

The aide he was speaking to quickly left the room. Mr. Friedman was in a bad mood, and speaking to him would most likely only agitate it. He went to ensure the Foreign Minister's orders were carried out, taking the files with the pictures in them from the nose cameras of the planes, and sent them to the nation of Soviet Leaders.

OOC: The pictures are composed of long-distance pictures of the ICBM launching, with digitally zoomed in close-ups of the ICBM in question. Most ICBMs have the flag of the home nation painted on the side, and I assume yours are no different. This flag is what gives them away. Further images from the two torpedo planes show the submarine that launched them, most likely with its ship name painted on the side, possibly another flag, and even the host nation (Soviet Leaders). Since your ships were simply part of a taskforce and not a top-secret project, I assume there is no reason for the ships to be any different and therefore hiding their identities.

In the Capital city of Soveit leaders
"Sir the pictures came from the looks of it the ship is the SC Red October and it is distroyed and the ICBM is our missle that sub captin got us in some mess."
The Officer of International Issues said to the Marshal of II (International Issues) The Marshal responed "Yes he has and I know him personaly he didn't do it by himself I know that I am meeting the Council and they will want to know what we should do I want you to get my report ready." The Officer said "Yes,sir" He know this was not going to easy get us out if they attack us they would have a right but we would have to fight back we offered help.

In the Capital Building
The Marshal of II walked up to the podium " Hello Comrades I am here to show you what we are thrown into as you know we hand a class-47 missle lunch which is a lunch with out orders I find that the sub that did it is a Red October class and the name is SC Red October and the sub fired a ICBM at the nation of Kurona I think that we should send a Aid unit in."
The Premeir said "Good we will discuss this and do what we fill is best."
The Marshal siad "Premeir you have to make the choice right now if you don't you risk a war and you risk Nuclear war and we have another Red October class sub out there and he was good friends with the Red October's captin what do you think of that he is fully loaded with ICBMS he could lunch 1-12 missles from that sub and hit Kurona in every major city and that would mean the distruction of our nation." He was out of breath
The Premeir said "Ok we will send a aid unit in. with the second Battle group." The building was emptyed and the second battle group was sent with a Nuclear aid group and 5,000,000,000,000 rubles to help. The battle Group was Called the Victory Fleet it was the same size as the current battle group in the area. with out any subs

On the Glavakech
"Sir, The Victory Fleet is coming they have a Aid unit and $5,000,000,000,000 in rubles we have to distroy the fleet or hurt it we have to distory the Dreadnoughts."
The captin said "Yes we have to distroy the fleet paint the Kurona flag on the ICBM." The Flag Of Soviet leaders was being removed off of the ICBM and the kurona flag was being panted on them.

OFFICAL MESSAGE TO Kurona
We Soviet leaders find that we are in the wrong and that we are sending aid and $5,000,000,000,000 to help your nation rebuild we hope that you accept we are sending a Second Battle group they have the aid equipment and the money to help you rebuild with think that another Sub is in the area that is going to attack again we have ordered all of our subs out of the area and back home that way it will be easy to hunt down the subs that are against you.
Sincerly
Premeir Romakov
OOC: The reason they know the Kurona flag is because they were given it because they were told not to fire at that flag ever. What do you think that way our 2 nations will think that we both got attacked by each other which will caues this war to get hot quicker than normal

"We could accept the offer milady. Perhaps end this war before it starts."

"Li, I just don't know. Are they true to their word, or is this a trojan horse operation? But if they are, and I deny them, many will suffer beneath the rubble. Kanami is willing to send bombers into SL, and call for their trial in the IC, as soon as I give the request. Oh what do I do?"

"They're sending aid?" Friedman asked incredulously. "They launched a ballistic missile at a major city, killed tens of thousands of people, if not more, and now they want to send a lump sum of money and call it square?"

"It appears so, sir," the aide responded nervously. Mr. Friedman was not in a good mood. "It's a rather large sum of money, too."

"Yes, but does how much money it takes make it right to kill that many innocents?" Friedman snarled. "That's like shooting a man and then paying his family ten million dollars and saying 'I'm sorry, let's be friends again.'"

"I'm not arguing with you, sir," the aide responded.

"I wanted to send a message to these bastards. I think we accomplished that when Admiral Barkley destroyed the submarine. If they're now trying to just get away with such a blatant act of war, this is ridiculous. Oh, and call Tomoyo. I want to get back into talks about the sailors' well-being and recovery."

"Very well Li. General, free all troops from the Haraki subs, and see to it that they are handed over with care to their proper authorities."

"Yes ma'am. What about the SL's attepmted aid?"

"I've thought about it, it seems to good to be true. I don't buy it. I'm sensing a trojan horse operation. Li, contact the Republic of Kanami and the Queendom of Aqua Anu, please ask them for econmoic aid, medeical aid, and possilby military. Tell the Soviet Leaders, I reject their alleged "aid."

"Right away Milady."

World News Network

Paula: Good evening, I'm Paula Mac, thanks for joing us. A confirmed missle attack on Kurona, has left the nation, and the world in shock. Special Intel Units say all sources point to the Soviet Leaders. However the SL nation denys any wrong doing, and claimes Kurona was attacking first. But Kurona's leader Princess Tomoyo Mikanu has rejected thoes claims, as well as the Prime Minister of Kanami, an ally to Kurona, and the Queen of Aqua Anu, another. A formal decleration of war was made by Kurona, against the atrocities. Kanami's Prime Minister has also called for the SL's Navel Commander in Cheif, to be tried in the international court, for war crimes, and crimes against humannity. A reported over 10,000 are dead from the missel strik, and the death toll is likely to keep growing. We'll have more for you as this developes.

Friedman received the response and breathed a sigh of relief. "This is a good thing," he murmured. "We're getting away for what we've done, basically on the condition it doesn't happen again."

"Sir, Kurona has declared war on Soviet Leaders," the aide responded. "What is our official response?"

"Our official response? We don't have an official reponse, not officially. So I'll make one: We hereby condemn the actions of the nation of Soviet Leaders. This is an unforgiveable act against non-military targets, not even preceded by a declaration of war. Haraki hereby places its full support behind the nation of Kurona in the fight against Soviet Leaders, although we will not risk a declaration of war or military aid at the time being."

The aide nodded, finished writing down what Friedman had said, and left the room.

HNS Midnight, Xanadou Sea

The Midnight had snuck out of Kuronan waters. They had managed to get into international waters under the cover of the fishing boat's miraculous appearance, and found a merchant convoy to mask their presence. Under the cover of the international shipping lanes, they had escaped to tell their tale another day, and circled around to link up with Barkley's taskforce, where Captain Webster was briefed on the events of the last few days. He was astonished to discover that the other sub torpedoed had surfaced and launched a missile against a civilian target. "You must be joking, sir," he stated, matter-of-factly.

"I wish I were," Barkley replied. "But sadly I'm not. Tidal City, Kurona, was destroyed by a ballistic missile launched from a Soviet Leaders' submarine."

"I should hope we're going to war with them, sir," Webster responded, in a rather opinionated statement.

"Have you forgotten, Captain, that we were trespassing in Kuronan waters, just as they were? The only difference between their actions and your actions is that they got caught and, in a tight situation, did the only thing they could. And in response, I destroyed their submarine, and ended a lot of lives. How the fuck do you think I feel about that?" Barkley responded, quietly. "A war will end a lot of lives. I'm not willing to pull us into a war like that, not over an incident of this scale. From here on, it's up to the politicians."

Webster nodded, saluted, and left the bridge.

HNS Twilight, Xanadou Sea

The Harakian sailors let out a ragged cheer as the HNS Daybreak came into view. Captain Marshall had been alerted by the captain of the HMS Raven that the Daybreak was on its way to pick up the sailors and escort them out to the taskforce in international waters, and he had immediately informed the crew. Now, after many hours of waiting, their aid had arrived.

"Not if they don't see them comming."

A. Never order a nuclear strike or any attack agianst Kurona
B. We were going to aid them becaues we could see that the missle was one of ours and we have been attacked with Nukes before and know there deadly power that is way the council has to vote 100% for a lunch to be ordered
C. There was a nuclear strikes on our land and a message sent to us from Kurona telling us about the strike and that it was payback for the attacks.
D. We have lost contact with 1 of our Red October class subs we believe that the sub named Glavakech is the one that might of fired at us. Message to all nations involved in this incident:

We(Twitch2395) authorized an over flight by one of our SR-71B spy planes to assess the situation. This is a message to all nations involved in this incident that this is occuring, and that it is not a hostile action, and therefore if you were to fire upon our plane we will consider it an act of war. If this were to happen we would declare war against the nation resposible for the attack.

Nashakov responed to that comment "Well someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed." The group laughed but the premeir was the first one to stop he said "I want to know how they know that the missles weren't from us."

He spoke in Russian to them: "Yes I would also like to know if this is the work of a foolish and irresponsible sub captain. If it is a captian, then who is he? And where is he? Why isn't he here, or in the ICC right now facing up? Is he here right now, or is he not? If he is point him out."

As he holds up the mission orders that stated that no nuclear missles are to be fired. Kurona should thank me for helping them kill there "Enemy"." he ended there and then the premeir said to him. "Вы имеете убийство 100.000 от тех нападений и вы будете предателем homeland ваше, котор famliy обесчещено вашими действиями вы имеете condemed к death. We не примете это по мере того как помощь мы дает вас к Kurona если они хотят skum, то мы не хотим иметь что-нибыдь сделать с вами если вы не пойти позволить вашу собственную личность быть одетым в международный суд мы покажем на нашем T.V я также буду там вы skum."

Women and Children! Fishermen, novelists, farmers, you killed innocent people, in PEACE TIME! You launched an attack against your own country, and tried to pin it on us. You made me do something I didn't want to do, and that was delcare war.
You are clearly guilty by Kuronan law, but we are going to put you before international law. An international sentence. You are going to be tried by the world.
