MoCI: Azazians and Gosians will 'only need a passport'

Move designed to help increase bilateral tourism, and make trade
easier between the United Kingdom of Azazia, the Allied States of Goso
and Comino and Pacitalia, will take effect 'early next year', Agus. says

Alessandro Spinodore, TIMIOCATO
The Ministry of Customs & Immigration announced Thursday morning that they will be upgrading the Transfer Status Level of nationals of the United Kingdom of Azazia and the Allied States of Goso and Comino to Level Blue. This will allow legal citizens and legal documentation holders of those nations to enter and exit Pacitalian soil with two pieces of identification - a valid passport and a valid driver's licence or student identification card (SIC).

Previously, the two nations were at Level Yellow, meaning that Azazian and Gosian nationals required a valid travel visa before their entry to Pacitalia was permitted. Now, travel to Pacitalia will become easier than ever before for the nationals of those two nations, something that Agustinate of Customs & Immigration Giancarlo Caporello says is "a long time coming".

"With this upgrade of our TSL, Azazians and Gosians will be able to travel freely through Pacitalia without the encumbrance of additional documents that cost, in some cases, upwards of one hundred douros," Caporello said at a press conference. "Hopefully, this will improve tourism between Pacitalia and those two nations, and also make trade and commerce much more facilitative for future years."

Caporello said the ministry has already enacted the TSL upgrade, and Azazians and Gosians planning to travel to Pacitalia after 1 January 2006 will be able to bypass the current Visa Application Programme (VAP) in booking aeroplane tickets and hotel accommodations. The Ministry requires airlines and online travel booking sites such as Expedia.pc and Travelocity.pc to add a step in booking phases for Level Yellow and Orange nations where they must apply for a visa in order to confirm their bookings.

Reports suggest a similar upgrade for nationals of the Second Empire of the Golden Throne and certain Atlantian Oceania nations from Yellow to Blue will take place before 1 January 2007. Sarzonia recently had its Blue status reinstituted after the short diplomatic and economic row between Pacitalia and Sarzonia in November. The only nation in Level Green is Hamptonshire - nationals of the Grand Duchy need only a valid driver's licence or SIC to enter Pacitalian territory.

Sources in both of the upgrade nations say representatives of the MoCI's counterparts in Azazia, and Goso and Comino, are expected to comment on this upgrade before the end of the day.

Marsechato ‘Surprised’ by Pacitalian Immigration Policy

Silema, Comino - Don of Immigration and Ambassador to the Woodstock Pact Doriano Marsechato said he was “pleasantly surprised” to hear of the new shift in Goso and Comino’s Transfer Status Level (TSL) with Pacitalia. Previously in the broad ’Yellow’ category, Gosians and Cominans now fall under the more lenient ‘Blue’ policy, which emplaces far fewer travel restrictions on Gosian and Cominan tourists. Among the policy’s many perks, Gosians will now only be required to have a legal passport and identification in order to enter Pacitalian soil.

Pacitalian Agustinate of Customs and Immigration Caporello expressed his hopes for the new policy at a press conference earlier today. "Hopefully, this will improve tourism between Pacitalia and those two nations, and also make trade and commerce much more facilitative for future years."

Don Marsechato is expected to push for a similar measure, at least Cominan Parliament, sometime in the coming weeks, both as a part of his party’s policy of ‘Globalization, Free Trade, and Increased Foreign Ties,’ and as a major facet of his reelection campaign. Marsechato and the Parte di Democratice Avanzamentare (PdDA) have long maintained that greater globalization would lead to economic benefits and already their marketing analysts are predicting tourism booms because of the shift in Pacitalia’s policy. While analysts say this could triumph the PdDA and Marsechato to the head of the governing Coalizione di Democratici Avanzamentari, its impact remains to be seen on the national economy or national opinion polls. Regardless of the outcome, though, expect more news on Marsechato as we near election time.

Reduction in Travel Restrictions to Pacitalia

Imperium (ANN) – Minister of the Interior Ashley Thomason announced during the noon hour that effective this January travel restrictions between the Republic of Pacitalia and the United Kingdom shall be eased to increase bilateral trade and travel between the two allies. Replacing the list of required documents will be the far simpler presentation of one’s passport and national identity card. Minister Thomason called the move a “large leap forward” in Azazi-Pacitalian relations while she emphasized the potential economic benefits to both parties from the agreement.

The reaction on the Barents Exchange suggested support from the business sector; with trade between the two nations expected only to increase in the coming years, the lessening of the restrictions will make business easier for all parties involved. However, the same reaction was not received from across the floor in the House of Commons as Daniel Collins, leader of the Conservative Party, blasted the move as “foolish” and “ill-timed” considering what he termed “growing credible threats” against the United Kingdom. When questioned, he would not elaborate on the possibility of threats from the Republic of Pacitalia, only to say that “the Prime Minister is starting down a slippery slope. After the destruction of Carthage we put invested in border and immigration security for a reason; and now we’re abandoning it.”

In a late session of Parliament, Minister of Foreign Affairs Emily Deveraux blasted Mr. Collins stating that the “Pacitalians are nothing short of the best allies the people of the United Kingdom have anywhere in the world.” She went on to criticize what she called attempts to divide the two nations as reckless and irresponsible and as evidence of the Conservative Party’s inability to lead the nation in the realm of foreign affairs.

Ultimately, however, both Democratic Socialists and Conservatives are bound to the people, who appear to be wholly supportive of the measure, with Azazian Airways and Air Oceania reporting slight increases in sales to destinations with the Republic for the late winter and spring months.
