While operations of creating the official headquarters for the Thrashian intelligence agency known as Seele (Zey-lay) had put together the best of Thrashian scientists, experts in all fields of known galactic science. A vertiable think tank. Presently all operations of the 3rd Branch have been delicated to the scientific labs aboard the Epion space station, until the headquarters is completed.

Dr. Vladimir Ochotski read through his theorems again. He ran his fingers through his long grey beard. His medically attached eye enhancing glasses shifted mechanically slightly as he got closer. "Yes..it might work..." he muttered to himself.

Ochotski sat in a large room full of cubicles. Other scientists sat around him, each with their own research and projects going on. Dr. Mic'Andrews walked by, his white long coat flowing behind him, his hands full of papers and folders.

"Oi! Mic'Andrews!" called Dr. Kines. "Get over here, I need to pick your brain for some answers." The man stumbled over to the tall red haired woman, dressed the same as him.

Ochotski went back to his theorems. A hologram of a human skin cell hovered in front of him. He watche dit as holographic molecules tried entering the cell, some where readily accepted, others where not.

"Yes...I know but where does the answer lead!" He said to it. It was basic biology that a cell wall or membrane was selectively permeable. Ochotski had been going over his old school documents when he had aimlessly re-read them, and he had suddenly hit on an idea.

Thanks to the alliance between the nations of the GFFA, Thrashian scientists had eagerly enjoyed the flow of new information and ideas with their collegues from other nations. Ochotski himself had started a pen-pal relationship with a Godular scientist, one who had helped to create those wonderful shield ships that caused massive high powered laser charges to be in reality sent back to their origin upon firing. Impressive technology that Ochotski had not thought of yet.

But thanks to his aimless reading and his new friend he had begun to formulate a new idea that might help Thrashia. Might even get him the nobel prize! The possibilities were endless. Ochotski smiled to himself and kept working on it.

Ochotski walked down through three levels. Techs and and other members of the Seele 2nd Branch, connected to operations and making sure the internal workings of Seele and the MAGI system work, walked all around. Ochotski was basically ignored as he walked through the orderly mess. He walked to a far corridor and came to a door. It was rusted over and had several papers taped or pinned to its front. Each and everyone of them was in the tiniest and unreadable writing that Ochotski had ever seen.

He knocked on the door. "Hello."

"Come in if your going to knock!" called a voice. Ochotski nodded and pressed the switch. The door slid open. The room was entirely black except for the solitary outline of a figure, a white light of a computer screen giving him the look of some squating demon. The entire room was filled with computer parts, paper littered the floor, old pizza boxes did also. It was the room of Micheal Corvi, the best MAGI computer tech in Seele.

"What do you want doc?" Corvi asked, he didn't even turn around from his computer screen, the music of taping keys echoeing around the room.

Ochotski cleared his throat. "You were one of the techs that helped to develope some or most of the Fleet's shielding systems correct?"

"Yes, what of it?"

"Well I have an idea, but I need the help of the best tech in Thrashia."

Corvi swivled around in his chair. He was only 27 years old, his face still clean shaven. "Is it a hard challenge?"

"Yes it will be."

"Alright then, I'm in. Just make sure its hard ok?" A loud ding sounded, like an alarm. Corvi got up, dressed in a bathrobe, and walked over to a small square box. It was a microwave. He pressed it open and pulled out a hot pocket. He began eating it and then noticed Ochotski still there.

"What? I'm hungry, and these are the only things I eat!"

"Now tell me again why I need to construct an AI program for the shielding?" asked Corvi. He sat in his chair before a large red terminal. It was a high security access only directly linked to the MAGI system. Several Fleet officers were nearby looking curiously at the computer tech garbed in a bright red bathrobe and shorts, and an old man with a patched and frayed white coat. Only the identity badges they wore kept the officers from escorting them from the room.

"Because, now, here are my theorems. I need you to create the program based on them," said Ochotski. He handed the young tech a stack of papers several inches thick.

"And I have to do this?"

"I can promise you a never ending supply of hot-pockets while you work."

"Deal."

"Alright Doctor, explain this new shield system of yours," said Colonel Muller. He stood by with several other Seele aides and personel, watching a large open area of an inner dock on the Epion. In front of them, Dr. Ochotski and the renowned hacker Micheal Corvi worked busily next to a shield generator and a large standard turbolaser cannon.

Ochotski turned. He smiled. "Now gentlemen, as you all know shielding of our space ships is only the first deterant to keeping our ships from damage. Yet at the same time these shields only last under a certain amount of energized pressure, i.e. enemy laser fire.

"The shield generators of our ships already have a standard computer program in them that allows for the fluctuation of energy, allowing us to increase and decrease our shields, to decrease shield power in one area, to reinforce another. This so far has been the extent to which we have experimented with Shielding technology." Ochotski walked over to the shield generator, a large computer panel was set next to it where Corvi sat in his red bathrobe taping on his keyboard. He turned back to the assembled officers.

"Now, does anyone know what happens when you place a the poles of two large new made batteries togethor?" asked Ochotski.

One of the officers raised his hand. "It fries them. Because their of equal power they cancel each other out, theres no flow of energy, just a sort of self destruction of the batteries power use."

Ochotski nodded. "In basis, that indeed is what happens. Now, before I explain why I wanted that question answered I will explain Mr. Corvi's pressence." He motioned to the tech who seemed to ignore the pressence of the assembled people. "I had him, along with the MAGI, create an AI program. One that is charged with acting as a 'Watcher' of the shield. Not only the basic functions which the computers already do, but more. It keeps a memory bank of all known laser and beam energy signatures. Our shields are made of the same essential energy as the beams from this turbolaser." He pointed to the large cannon further away, several clone gunners stood nearby.

"Now, as you were explained to about the batteries, we plan to create the same function with our shields!" said Ochotski excited.

Muller frowned. "What do you mean the same function?"

"I mean what I mean! This AI program monitor is connected to the Comm Scan and other sensory programs of a ship. Once an incoming laser is designated, the shields new AI program will, thanks to the MAGI, be able to within miliseconds, detect its origin and amount of power in the beam itself. Once recognized, and the area where the beam will hit, the AI program concentrates the shields energy to that location, making it so that the local shield area is of the same energy level and power as that of the approaching beam. And like the battery, they will cancel each other out, the beam becoming nothing more and disapating over the shield, and the shield area will be for under a second not protecting that area. Yet the shields power supply with immediately recover the area."

Muller stood. "Your sure you can do this?"

"Already have. Lieutenant!"

The turbolaser cannon crew swivvled it to aim at the shield generator which came to life. The turbolaser cannon shrieked and the cannon fired. The beam hit the shield before anyone could even blink. The shield and the laser flared as their energies conflicted. Then just as suddenly the shield and laser beam disappeared. One second later the shield returned to power.

The officers began clapping. Muller stepped forward. "Keep working on it Doctor. Keep Working on it."
