Elyria-Lorain calls on Allies!

Elyria-Lorain

Attention! All allies of Elyria-Lorain!

There is a very serious situation unfolding. An ancient evil known as Xaltotun has attacked our ally, Xeraph. At this point, only the capitol of Xeraph, Xeraphia has been completely subdued. Several other cities in the Kingdom are marginally affected.

What has this to do with Elyria-Lorain?

I have had a personal hand in the events leading up to the assassination attempt on the Xeraphian Emperor's life. Basically, I was in the wrong place at the wrong time, and the short end of the story is that Xaltotun has pledged the total destruction of Elyria-Lorain and surrounding lands when he is done with Xeraph.

Thus far, only the Kingdom of Xeraph has been affected. The other nations of the Empire of Xeraph have not as yet been attacked, nor does it look like that will happen any time soon. Those nations are presently preparing an attack on the sorceror in Xeraphia. Should they fail, Xaltotun will target us next.

There are approximately 35 nations who have recently allied themselves to us. You all have bases/embassies of varying size on our outlying islands, which puts you in the line of fire if Xaltotun attacks. So far, Tarlag has responded with forces that are based in our capitol, Ariette, as we think the wizard will hit that city first.

I realize that you have the duty to protect your bases first, Elyria-Lorain second. All I ask is that you be at high alert, ready for anything.

Updates will follow as event unfold.

sincerely,

Priscilla d'Avignon-Elyrie, Duchess of Elyria-Lorain.

I thank you for your timely response. Be advised that the naval and air forces of Tarlag and Black Shadows are en route to our region of Avignon. The primary battle will undoubtedly start in Xeraph, which is a mere 2319 miles away. It is possible that Xaltotun will deliver a two-pronged attack on Elyria-Lorain and Xeraph simultaneously, but this is not expected.

If and when Xaltotun attacks the Avignon region, it will probably be primarily an attack from the air, as was done in Xeraph. Be aware that you may be fighting against supernatural beings.

Updates to follow.

My Lady I am happy to report I am currently deploying in Avinyon the 23 and 27 Naval infantry Regiments along with the Third Army Airborne Regiment.
I have also had flown over, one wing (72) of Grippen light fighters, they will be flying out of our base on Avalon. This group will be in addition to the two squadrons of Sea Harriers and two squadrons of A-10s currently on station. I feel this force with your own air units should give us sufficient air cover in the coming battle.
I currently have one Hawk-eye Airborne radar aircraft orbiting the area at this time to direct all Allied forces.
Once my units are fully in place I wish to meet with you, Lady Stormhand and any Allied commanders on the ground to discuss defence plans.

Chancellor,

We have absolutely no idea of the enemy's strength. How do you measure a demon's strength? They can be killed, but...

Cost is also unknown, as this will not be a conventional war.

I would suggest about 1,000 men. If all of the allies send that many, we'll be in good shape.

So far, Tarlag, New Ausha, Nebarri Prime, the Grey Legions, and the Black
Shadows have responded.

The "enemy" is Xaltotun, not a nation. There will be no reparations.

To: New Ausha and Tarlag,

Many generals and commanders have already met in Xeraph. Three representaives from that meeting will arrive here in a few hours to compare their findings with ours. We will then come up with a plan.

Attention Allied Nations:

As of this morning, all anti-Xaltotun forces have hammered out a rough plan to assault Xeraphia and defend EL against a potential strike from the sorceror's forces.

The Xeraphians and Imperial subject-nations are in place. Many hundreds of ships, including carriers and subs, are anchored both in the Inland Sea and off the coast of the Mercenary Lands (region).

Somewhat less organized is the defense of Elyria-Lorain. We still have allied nations responding, and the need to coordinate these forces is an on-going process. However, it appears that there will be enough of an air force to counter a possible Harpy invasion, similar to that which attacked Xeraph.

Updates to follow.

Alright, good. Looks like we could counter an air asault. We have 350 planes in your area. We also have radar, scanning the skies for trouble. We have appointed several Generals to Elriya-Lorain, and they are commanding our troops. Whenever this begins, we will be ready to counter the assault.

Gen. Rawen reported to his new command post. He looked around the room. A New Aushan armed forces flag, about 3 dozen radar operaters, and several armed guards. "Great, he muttered to himself. "Sclemmer!" A thin man appeard at the door. "Ja?" He replied. "Looks like we've another goddam war on our hands. It's gonna be Honu all over again. Wore a message to the chancelor: We are standing by for any signs of the enemy." Sclemmer ran to write up the telegram. The general leaned back, observing a map of the island-nation. "Hmmm, he studied. "Our position, he began to mutter to himself, look very strong, we have a good air-defence circle around Elryia-Lorain. No goddam, demon, or fariy, or whatever the hell these things are, are gonna get through these defences." He smirked.

Attention all Lorainian allies!

The sorceror Xaltotun has just this moment unleashed the Harpies on the armies of the Xeraphian Coalition Forces! Hundreds of thousands of the infernal creatures are pouring out of the mountains and zeroing in on the ground troops in the Plains of Royyan. This is where the XCF have focussed the bulk of their troops.

Coalition aircraft have scored many hits. The Harpies are falling from the sky by the hundreds. But the XCF air force is taking a severe beating. Gen. Strickland has stated that they can sustain these losses for just so long before they have to cut and run. Apparently, Xaltotun has an unending supply of demons, where Coalition forces cannot be replenished.

Ground troops have dug in around Xeraphia. 330,000 AI Spiders, armed with 35mm Gatling Guns, are taking the battle to the enemy.

The wizard's ground forces are attacking along a three-mile line, tens of thousands of hideous creatures armed with everything from clubs to automatic weapons. The AI Spiders are decimating them, but they cannot hold the line for long.

Lords Sethanis, Ghengiz, Ricala, and Astran are all in the midst of the fighting. The space ships of Auralina have attacked the mountain strongholds of the demon hordes and have dealt them serious blows. But it cost the XCF one space vessal, and the other is limping away damaged. Xaltotun has unleashed a weapon that XCF has dubbed "The Wave". This "Wave" apparently is some type of psionic-pulse driven metastatic disrupter. It seems to have the effect of penetrating what it touches and eating away the cellular/atomic structure of both organic and non-organic organisms.

As I alerted you in the past, if the XCF can't hold back the sorceror's creatures, then we will have to go to highest alert, for Elyria-Lorain and it's immediate allied bases will be targeted next.

Updates to follow.

You may target the mountainous area of Xeraph with your tactical missiles. There are too many XCF soldiers on the Royyan Plains for the use of missiles. The mountains are approx 135 miles east of Xeraphia, and are the source of Xaltotun's hordes. It is presumed that he is there as well, but we are not certain of that fact. The battle is at a virtual standstill at present, neither side able to advance. We have taken severe lossess. The latest casualty tally is as follows:
Armor: 37% of MBT's are destroyed or disabled.
Air: 61% of fighters, 13% of bombers shot down.
Ground Troops: Current losses running at just over 50%, KIA and MIA. WIA unknown.
Naval units sustaining minimal losses. One theory is that a wizard's powers are diminished when water is involved.

Capt. Taggart,

I suggest you deploy your units in the Inland Sea, at the mouth of the Tinigsre River. This would put you south of Xeraphia, where the Harpies have yet to penetrate. Your SS missiles would do the most damage at the base of the mountains where the enemy Horde pools for an hour or so until they break up into groups of 500 and heads west to attack XCF forces.

Gentlemen,

I would suggest 15 of the RPFB's hit the midsection of the mountain ranges at 1-mile intervals horizontally. The other 15 I would program to overshoot the mountains and reverse course to hit the eastern side of said mountains at the same level. Our OSS-1 readouts show us that there are tens of tousands of the enemy Horde hidden from our view. Your frags will greatly reduce tose numbers.

Use your SBM's as you see fit.

Gentlemen,

Keep pounding the hell out of the Horde! Sooner or later, even Hell has to run out of demons.

Keep your nukes on high alert. If we in Xeraph go wit hthem, we'll all go at the same time. We have all 2,245 ICBM's ready to launch, all warheads armed with thermo/frags. Our Tactical and Ballistic missiles (approx 5,200) are all armed with smaller meg warheads as well as Chem/Bio warheads.

It is good that your people are in EL. If we fail here.....God help Elyria-Lorain.

*To Mr. Strickland*

Good to know the missles are working. We now have tactical missle deployment platoons, now numbering up to division strength. 75 additional missles have been launched. We are going to blow the hell out of these things! Unfortunetly, my advisiors have convinced me, that it is too late for us to support you with ground forces, as they would be destroyed, before hitting land. Additionally, 300 Heavy Bombers have deployed thier payloads, along the besiege ring. The southern ring in faltering. Unless, they can patch that line up quick, you may have a chance for counter-attack. Out of the 4 aircraft carriers in the area, 2 have been deployed to Xeraphian waters, and our deploying planes, fighters, etc, for raids on the enemy. We are now in range for assault helicopters, which we have deployed 145 apaches, 100 cobra's, and 40 black hawks. With all this, and 5 destroyers and 6 cruisers, pounding the enmy with a combo of tomahawk missles, and naval artillery. Hold out, and try for a counter-attack!

P.S: *To Elyria-Lorain* We have met with many of your generals, and have devised a perfect defense plan. I have regrettable news however. We are on a 200 billion dollar budget at the moment. Before these funds run out, parliament must allow more money into the war effort. The chancelor has full support for you, but already, support is falling for this conflict, amoungst our people. Ex: Support (When the war began) 92% Disagree 8% Support (Now) 84% Disagree 16%

Captain Morse's LAV75 waded up on the west bank of the river followed by the rest of his armored company.
" Keep everyone mounted until we reach the front lines and don't bunch up."
Over the wireless a "yes sir" in all most unison was to be heard.
" Sir unit 2 reporting, I have 30 winged aerial targets at one o'clock high."
" Hit them hard and get them out of my sky!"
After the order was given a chorus of 90,76,25mm and heavy MG rounds went down range to the demonic targets.
Morse looked down to his gunner and smiled "well looks like they brought a knife to a gun fight."
"YES SIR! And It looks like we brought the big guns" he replied as he pulled the trigger to fire the LAV's 90mm main gun.

Impress upon them that if they don't approve funds quickly, there will be no New Ausha in the near future. Xaltotun will not stop with Xeraph and EL.

The situation in and around Xeraphia is deteriorating rapidly. The sorceror's armies are slowly gaining the upper hand. The XCF are going to implement WMD within 24 hours. Your satellite weaponry will go a long way in providing support for the nuclear attack. Xeraphian High Command have decided to beam their location every couple of hours so as to avoid being overtaken by the agents of Xaltotun.

Updates to follow.

OOC: ok, here's the deal. The wizard is going to kick major ass in Xeraph. Millions dead, etc. Xeraph will post massive losses, and all allies will have to post some also.
But...Alaric is going to come out of his coma just in time to halt the attack on EL,and with all allies helping, will confront the wizard, defeat him in a monumental battle, and save the world, etc, etc.

"General? Yes? New targets are making our radar crazy." "Dam these demons!" Yelled Barry Weter. Barry looked out of the huge window, in the bridge of the NAN Ghost. He looked with great content, as missles fell on the enemy, time and time again, incinerating hundreds at a time. Suddenly a jerk moved the ship, violently sideways. "The hell? Scremed captain Weter. "Captain! We have just been struck by, uh- rrm- a fireball," "A what!?!?! "A fireball sir, the creatures and launching then from the shore! Outside, thousands of the demented creatures were using crude catapults to fire tremondous sized balls of fire. "Blow those bastards back to hell!!!!!!!" Yelled the captain. All guns turned to the creatures, and fired full blast. The earth shook, and thousands of tons of dirt flew into the sky. The captain smiled.

*Report to the Xeraphian armed forces*

Good afternoon gentlmen. Our air raids continue, with excellent results. Our planes, helicopters, and heavy bombers are wiping them out. However, there seem to be just too many, and they have shot down 3 planes, with some sort of sorcery. Baffled, we have responded with average missle strikes of, 150 high-explosive missles a day. Hold out.

*To the armed forces of Elyria-Lorain*

The skies over the mountains were growing darker by the minute. The winds were growing in intensity, and thunder and lightening were lighting up the night sky.

Corporal O'Malley was dug into the bloody sands of the Inland Sea. Thousands of his fellow troopers were lying dead or wounded. There were only a few uninjured of them left. They would not be able to withstand another direct attack by the creatures of Xaltotun. O'Malley turned to his seargent and asked, " OK, sarge, what next? I've got about 200 rounds left, and there's about 600-odd of us able to defend this position. Should we charge and make them surrender?" Even after all this, O'Malley was able to crack a stupid joke.
Sgt. Rocke glared at the corporal, then laughed. " What the fuck, corporal, we're gonna die, so why should I get mad at you?" Rocke could see the creatures coming. They weren't running...they were just walking towards them, sure of their victory this time. Three waves had been met and stopped, thousands of both the creatures and the Royal Marines littering the sands. Onward came the Hordes of Hell...
Rocke looked at O'Malley, and said, " O'Malley, do you see the light show over the mountains? That's the sorceror conjuring up the final psionic disrupter wave. The first two took out over 70% of the allied forces, and this one is gonna finish us off. Xeraphia is lost, son. But the word is that the Emperor's kin are holding their own in other parts of Xeraph. And we also know that EL's allies are massing for an all-out defense/offense. The sorceror cannot fight endlessly, even if he does command demons. So, before we die, I think it's good for us to know that Xeraph will live on........"
" Sarge...here they come!"

The Horde came over the final rise, howling and slavering at their imminent victory. But the marines would make them pay dearly.......

New Aushan forces remain at 250,000 in Elyria-Lorain, but the decision was made to never deploy infantry into Xeraph, due to the raw danger. However, over 1400 high-impact missles and thousands of tons of conventional bombs, have smashed the enemy.

Near the inland sea:

Over 100 heavy bombers approached the target. The bomb guider of the lead squadron, could make out roughly 600 Xeraphian marines, making a stand before, thousands of harpies. Before the evil mob hit the marines, the squadrons released thier payloads. Walls of fire arose, destroying huge rows of the demons. The marines began to wave at the airpalnes, yelling. The bomb guider could have sworn he saw one of them smile at him. Just as his spirits were high, he noticed another wave of demons approach the marines. "God be with you..." he said softly to himself.

ooc: basically, the capitol of Xeraph (Xeraphia) is going to fall to the sorceror, but most of the other sections of Xeraph are going to force him to a stalemate. He is going to turn his attacks onto Elyria-Lorain, who will be supported by hundreds of thousands of allied units. Just when things look their grimmest, Alaric the Emperor will recover from his coma, and take the battle directly to Xaltotun. He will fight him hand to hand, and severly wound him, but the wizard will somehow get away (saving him for a future thread). There will be a great celebration amidst the terrible casualties. The only thing that broke the absolute silence were the waves lapping the shoreline. There was no movement, no wind stirring.....nothing.
The sky was a dark, dark grey, and it met the land at an indeterminate point far off in the distance. As far as the eye could see, there were dead bodies....of soldiers, demons, tanks and aircraft , and off in the shallows of the Inland Sea, a few warships tilted their bows towards the dismal sky.

The bodies of the soldiers were twisted beyond their normal range of motion, their faces pictures of pain and anguish. The demons faired little better. Their faces betrayed surprise. They didn't know that their Master would unleash the psionic blast while they were in the field, fighting the humans.

If there were anyone to see it, a dot appeared on the horizon, growing larger as it came towards the beach. It was a Harpy, and on it's back was Xaltotun.

The creature alighted the bloody sands, and the sorceror jumped off the Harpy's back. He looked around and laughed a hell-spawned, maniacal laugh. He was pleased. He was now in possession of 3/4 of Xeraph. There were just a few battalions left in the northern mountains. He would take care of them soon.

He turned and looked southwest, out over the Sea. He projected his soul over the waves, out into the Great Ocean, and came to the shores of Avignon. He continued over the lands of Alsace-Lorain, St. Germain-Lorain, and finally Elyria-Lorain, where he hovered for a second. Then, in an instant, he was back in his body.

He would deal with the remnant forces of the Xeraphian Empire later. He was going to turn his face towards that accursed woman's country, lay it waste, find the Xeraphian Emperor, and then begin the conquest of all those nations who dared to aid Xeraph and Elyria-Lorain against him.

He raised his arms up to the leaden sky, spoke a word....and thousands of bodies began to burn. The stench of burning flesh was horrific, and the burning bodies could be seen for hundreds of miles.

This is what happens when one sets his face against Xaltotun..............

"General Warolof I am pleased that your Government takes this war so seriously." Replied Lady Stromhand.
Tarlag has on station now three CVN groups with about 230 combat aircraft.
One battleship and one battle cruiser group plus three cruiser squadrons.
We have also put on station two CVHs with escorts, if he comes by sea we will give him a good fight.
The Tarlag Air force is deploying two wings (144 aircraft) of Gripen light fighters. One squadron of PB-29 patrol bombers in addition to the airborne radar aircraft we will have flying patrol about 500 miles off the coast as early warning.
In the capital we also have based 24 sea harriers and 24 A-10 fighter/bombers.
Our ground troops are arriving as we speak. We should have about 27,000 combat troops on the ground by night fall. The Duke has just consented to airlift an additional 20,000 airborne and light infantry soldiers. This will bring our total up to 47,000 troops.
We are also staging in Tarlag now an additional six RCTs (about 48,000 troops). Unfortuantely it will take some time to sea lift these troops over so unless this wizard wants to wait 3 weeks we cannot count on them.

Duchess Priscilla d'Avignon just sat there. She had just received the latest word concerning Xeraph, and was numb with unbelief.

According to reports, Xeraph and it's allies had suffered the worst defeat in it's history: 54% armored units lost, 47% aircraft losses, 13% naval losses, and 83% ground troops killed, wounded, or missing.

It was impossible to tally the enemy casualties, as all the dead were burning. The fires lit the night for miles around, one massive funeral pyre.

Xeraph's capitol lay firmly in the hands of Xaltotun, the people of that city being rounded up as food for the hellish creatures that now roamed it's streets.

There was still some fighting going on in the northern section of the mountains, but they would soon be dead also. Unless a miracle happened.

The Duchess ran down to the LifeWomb, where lie the unconscious body of the Emperor of Xeraph, Alaric Tan'it. The doctors, technicians, and Monks were still tending him, keeping him alive.

" Excuse me, gentlemen. I have word from Xeraph."

They looked at her expectantly.

She could hardly hold her head up as she spoke.

" The capitol has fallen. Xaltotun is is control of most of Xeraph. He has paused his attack for a while, but it will not be long before he turns his eye on us. Is there anything you can do to bring Alaric back to us?"

One of the Monks, Brother Max, said, " That is what we've been working on all these weeks, m'lady. He is making progress, but it is too soon to tell if our efforts are working."

" Thank you, sir. I must go and see to our defenses."

She was mentally calculating her country's military strength, and knew that it was far less than what Xeraph had thrown against the sorceror. Even with Tarlag, New Ausha, Gejigrad, Nebarri Prime, and Auralinia providing troops, aircraft, armor and naval units, it was all coming to less than 1/2 of those troops that attempted to defend Xeraph.

Aboard the Katanan Vector-Cruiser orbiting Neo-Gaia, Typhon Expanse....

No one said anything for quite a while. They had all gotten out of Xeraph just seconds before Xaltotun unleashed the final psionic wave. The reports of the devastation were too much to take in.

Sethanis, Ghengiz, Ricala, Vlad, Astran, and Gen. Strickland, along with a few generals and commanders, had beamed out of Xeraphia with their tails between their legs. Never in the history of the Empire had they taken such a beating. An average of 60% of their combined armed forces were lost. It would take years for the AI units off-world to rebuild them, never mind the infrastructure of Xeraph. Fortunately, none of the other Imperial countries had been invaded....yet. The wizard was now going to focus his attention on Elyria-Lorain. He knew that the Emperor was there, and he was going to obliterate that nation in his quest to destroy the Emperor.

Astran was the first to speak. " Well, shitfire, gentlemen. How the hell did we come to this sorry-ass state of affairs?"

Ghengiz cocked an eye at him. " We came to this state of affairs because certain personages here thought the Empire needed to add magic and sorcery to their arsenal. These certain personages were evidently wrong."

" Let's not get into recriminations, guys", said Vlad. " We fucked up, and now we have to figure out what to do."

All of them were wounded to one extent or another. Bullet wounds, slashed by talons, minor burns, sword cuts. None of them were in any condition to fight, and wouldn't be for sometime.

" What we have to do is fall back to quadrant 12, where the region of Avignon lies", said Ricala. " That prick is going to attack there next, and no matter the cost, we have to protect Alaric. I have a dispatch from Tarlag stating that we can beam him there should the wizard attack. I think it would be a damned good idea."

" Why there," asked Sethanis. " Why not beam him to the Expanse? Surely he'd be safer several light-years away than just a few hundred miles."

" Because", said Ricala, " That's just what Xaltotun would expect. You don't think he's aware of our holdings in space? I've already received reports of unidentified energy patterns in various sections of the Expanse. I'd be willing to bet it's the wizard's doings. He's checking out his options. The only we have going for us out there is the distances. Even as powerful a sorceror as Xaltotun has to deal with natural restrictions."

Sethanis thought a moment. "Alright, here's what we should do. First see to Alaric's safety. Second, gather up the remnants of the XCF from all the allied nations, and get them over to Avignon. They're gonna need all the help they can get. Third, we have to plan for the eventual attack on our nations. I think we need to transport all of the AI Spiders, Paladins, and Sentinels to Ariette, in Elyria-Lorain."

Ghengiz nodded his approval. "Yeah, we still have a little over a million Spiders, and the Paladins and Sentinels will add another 10,000 or so. Ric, how many orbital battle platforms and the like can you spare?"

Ricala pondered a moment. " I can position three OBP's directly over Avignon without losing position elsewhere. And I'll have a half-dozen ESBP's covering the distance between Mercenary Lands and Avignon. OSS-2 will be monitoring all movements.

Also, I might as well pull patrolling units from their routine orders. I'll have 1 Tan'igti Class Hospital ship available, along with 2 Nyeym'i class Heavy Cruisers, 2 Kalet'a class Attack Cruisers, a Rynash'a class Battle Carrier, and a Gorl'ana class Destroyer orbiting a 30,000 mile course. Between the lasers, photon torpedoes, and pulse-vector cannons, we should be able to do some damage."

Vlad looked at each of them, one at a time. " We better be able to do some serious damage this time, because if we don't, there won't be a next time..........."

"As many as Lord Dragonblade can spare."
"Ship over three cohorts Dragonblade should be able to spare that many and put them top priory on the air transport schedule. In fact assign more planes to the transport roster that should speed things up."
"What of the MRK 9 AI units she has requested?"
"You know they are top secret, they have not been unveiled yet."

Lord Dragonblade has commandeered the fast ferry Telana and is transporting an additional 120 AFV's. Tarlag has established an air bridge where we are transporting more troops and supplies for the upcoming fight. When he comes we will be ready.
Seeing we have the time may I make a few suggestions for your government.
1) Begin evacuation of your hospitals and nursing homes around the Capital This will free up bed space for our wounded and keep incident civilians out of harms way. Talag is willing to use our transport aircraft which are retuning empty after dropping of supplies to transport these evacuees to Tarlag where they can be cared for in relative safety.
2) If your Government permits personal firearms I suggest forming militia groups.
They should not be used as front line troops but used to defend low threat targets freeing our forces to battle the wizard.

They should not be used as front line troops but used to defend low threat targets freeing our forces to battle the wizard.

Lady Alexa,

Thank you for your forward-thinking. Our nation is already set up in the militia fashion. We have 6,228 groups of 100 militiamen (and women) currently trained to national standards. They are all fully outfitted with the best available weaponry, including automatic rifles, sidearms, and explosives.
While we do not as yet have much in the way of tanks, aircraft, or naval units, we will rely on yourself and our other allies to 'watch our rear'.

As to the evacuations, the nation of Black Shadows has set up TransBeam Portals in the capitol of Ariette which will allow us to beam anyone within 500 miles of Ariette to a place of safety. As all of our hospitals and care facilities are within that range, we're covered.

I have no info as to what Xaltotun is preparing, or when he will start the offensive. Rest assured, whatever it is, it will not be in our best interests. I do know that the remnant of the Xeraphian forces in the mountains of Xeraph are giving him an unusually hard time. They are hurting him and suffering minimal losses.

I will update you and all allies as soon as we know something.

Lady Alexa,
I would refrain from sending troops into Xeraph at this time. The guerrila tactics that the XCF are using makes them extremely hard to keep track of, which is of tremendous use to them right now. Also, introducing any new troops into Xeraph right now would simply get them killed. Xaltotun is in control of about 73% of the Kingdom. He still has not yet invaded any of the nations of the Xeraphian Empire, nor any of the nations of my region.

As far as I know, the guerrilas in the mountains of Xeraph are a composite corps of several nations, including Black Shadows, Auralinia, Black Katanas, Tarlagians, New Aushans, Grey Legionnaires, Gejigradians, and about 400 AI Spiders. Total is about 1,350 ground troops, with minimal armor, no air support. The Xeraphian navy has withdrawn from the Inland Sea and is berthed in the Great Ocean naval docks. Xaltotun's power doesn't seem to extend over vast expanses of water.

If you would please keep your volunteers on alert, we will no doubt have a need for them in the near future.

many thanks,

The Duchess

Thank you ever so much, 3.7 Acres would be perfectly good. I see that the current situation seems to be a little unsteady at the moment, so I will be using some of the latest technology we have available to guard the area.
We would be happy to give you one of the 5 Islands we have in our Archaepeligo of 50 islands, that we use specifically for embassies.
You may choose any of the following:
Valkyrie Bay-2 Acres
Natlus Gorge-5 acres
Victorinius-4 acres, complete with airport,
Glacia Prime-6 acres
and Vogenius-10 acres, complete with airport and small military strongpoint for your forces.

No matter where you choose, each one is within the vicinity of a military base and airport.

Lady Elah,

While we were aware that there were many people left in the former lands of Mythos, I am nonetheless rendered a bit speechless that any of them would have the wherewithall to have reached a level of technology that would have enabled them to make contact outside of their immediate territory.

Be advised, we did not 'cut and run' as you suggest. We chose to leave our homeland and attempt to establish a region where there would be peace and prosperity as we once knew it. You yourself will have to admit that there were too many warlords and petty tyrants that had sprung up in the former nations of Acamar Prime, Verboten Luftewaffe, and Black Luthien to try and form some semblance of unity.

I am not presently aware of the situation down there, but we are willing to open diplomatic relations with any nation that wants to reciprocate.

" Do we know what the 'attacking forces' are yet, Captain?"

" No ,ma'am, but we can assume they are demonic. It appears that there is three-to-one ratio of ground troops versus air units. So I guess we can expect the brunt of the attack to come at us from the northern beach-landings."

Alexa turned to the Tarlag Naval officer and asked "how many ships are near their course in?"
"Lady Stormhand the Argo and her escorts are about 75 miles west of the enemy."
"That means their long rang missiles and their 18 inch guns could be brought into play if they could get a little closer. Have Dayron order the Argo to do a long range intercept in conjunction with the air attack."

Necron shared virtual environment, an out of the way section

Arnran grinned a little as the dice came up with a gratifying six, though it was a ten sided dice, it only had five numbers, one two three four and six. He hunted through his pieces, and smirked with self-satisfaction as he managed to position his opponent’s pieces on the board, represented by various small figures, in another blocked position. Not that it helped – he was also blocked in, one of them would have to give up trying to outmanouver the other in order to win.

The game of Jerfern was similar to the ancient Egyptian game of Senet though it had far more space to move about in, as well as a randomised set of spaces. Of course, since the ‘re-awakening’ years ago, there had been various contests like this by the necrons, trying to out-compete each other’s minds.

“You realise she’s got you now,” Athrana, another of the triad of most-influential necron lords, said, grinning and leaning back on the couch around the complex game table.

Athrana threw him a resentful look, as his opponent, the commander of the necrons on Venus, rolled the deliberately archaic dice again. And, sure enough, she hit a six herself, and sent one of his pieces, with a playfully rendered bit of violence in miniature, from one of the upper level tracks to a lower level. It appeared she did ‘have him’ for now, at least.

“So, about this Elyria-Lorain thing,” he said at last, “what are we going to do about it?”

“Well, they’re useful trading partners and suppliers of guest-workers, and such things, and we certainly gain nothing by hanging them out to dry,” Athrana said, “I suppose you’re the go-to man on Earth matters like that. See if you can’t badger a Jackal into lending some orbital support, or send some ground forces perhaps…”

He shrugged, made another move on the Jerfern board, “I suppose so…”

The necron opposite grinned, and proceeded to trounce his entire side in a single move.

Returning to the ‘real world’ Arnran gently slipped a hand out from under the body of his lover, Idhrindiel nos Fithurin, one of the special-forces operatives of Menelmacar. She muttered something that wasn’t quite formed, and shifted around on the bed, resting her head on his chest. The Mornahossë officer wasn’t too interested in what he did at night, he didn’t sleep, after all, and generally such business wasn’t her concern. Even though the Necrontyr and the Menelmacari cooperated to a degree where their independence from one another was a largely forgotten technicality, he outranked her considerably – her rank, Neurocáno, roughly equivalent to ‘major’ was significantly less than his, and so it wasn’t really her place to be curious. Greetings, I am aware that you must have other concerns at the moment, but I would request further information on the situation. While the help we are able to offer you is by the necessity of politics, limited, I would like confirmation of what kind of support you expect.

If you wish something along the lines of deployment of orbital-attacks, I will be required to confer with my superiors in the navy. If however, you desire assistance in the form of ground armies, I would have little difficulty deploying small forces at your request.

If there is anything else you would like, or if you have suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact me at this ‘address.’

Captain Morse stood up from his shaving kit and ran over to the command LAV. "Laskey get the troop saddled up and into position asap."
Within minutes the survivors of the 7th RCT had maned their positions and were awaiting the on slot of the Demons.
Just as Laskey was buttoning up the LAV a squadron of Gripans streaked overhead to intercept the evil hordes that were about to lay waste to Elyria-Lorain.

Lady Alexa, Admiral Dayron, Capt. Morse,

Current estimates of the oncoming attacker is now numbered at approximately 116,500 airborne and 425,000 ground units. The ground units are being transported over the sea via an unknown medium ( no visible means of transport).

Allies who have responded with air, sea, and ground units are of similar proportions. Forces from Black Shadows, Grey Legions, Auralinia, and Xeraph itself, while greatly decreased from former numbers, are bringing in an additional 112,355 ground forces. Armor will not arrive in time. We must lean on what is available here in Avignon.

There will be additional forces coming in from other allies, but at this time, those
numbers are unknown.

As an FYI, the Emperor's body is being TransBeamed to multiple sites at irregular intervals. He is the main reason why Xaltotun is attacking us.

My fellow tetrarchs have been advised of the situation, and most of their troops are dug into the mountain ranges north of Ariette.

Updates will follow as needed.

The Duchess.

Arnran,

The situation, in a nutshell, is this: Xaltotun the Sorceror of Ancient Acheron has wheedled his way into the upper levels of Xeraphian government, turned on them, and is now bent on conquering all of the Xeraphian Empire. He has control of the Kingdom of Xeraph, but none of the other Imperial nations. He has turned his eye on Elyria-Lorain because that is where the comatose body of the Xeraphian Emperor, Alaric, is currently being hidden. ( He was severely injured in an assassination attempt some months earlier).

If you could supply us with 35,000 to 45,000 ground units, that will give us an edge. I don't know what your transport capabilities are, but we need them here NOW. Several of our allies have Beaming capabilities and could get them here in as little as 15 minutes.

Arnran hummed to himself quietly, that was quite a large force, all told. He smirked a little at the suggestion of someone else ‘beaming’ his troops around – then again, perhaps she was confused with the necron’s own capabilities – if there was one thing the necrons were good at, barring intimidation, it was teleportation. Well, the best he could do at such short notice would be to get his own personal company-sized unit ready for deployment and hector others to do likewise. He briefly reflected on how the locals would react to his other body.

He leaned down and patted Idhrindiel’s backside, waking the elf just a little, “I’ve got to go and destroy things Eiånah,” he said, and she laughed lightly, “Have fun,” she said, and rolled over a little, kissing his cheek.

Calling up a map of Elyria-Lorain, he casually overlaid the processed results of surveillance data – it wasn’t that Elyria-Lorain was particularly subject to this, but that Herculean efforts by the Menelmacari government ensured that satellites were available to observe practically anything on Earth.

He watched the slowly moving, at this scale at least, icons of aircraft over the Lorainian coast and zoomed in, looking for something nice and worthwhile on the northern coastlines of the nation, where he anticipated attack. Picking a stretch of coast nearest to strategic points like bridges, he smiled grimly, and closed his eyes, apparently drifting off to sleep.

In reality, he did in fact, ‘simply’ transfer his consciousness to another body. Unlike the one designed to resemble his original, organic form – though with golden hair and slightly improved features – this one was completely different. A towering construct with six spear-like legs, standing at over ten feet in height, the floating body was a custom-designed variant of the normal anti-gravitic units used by some necrons.

He tilted his head this way and that for a moment, and gestured at his staff of office, which shot into his hand. Followed by a half-dozen chittering ‘pet’ constructs, he made his way down from his perch in the depths of the Venus fleet’s flagship, and from there through a portal that snapped into life as he approached.

He emerged into the troop-bay of the Imperial Necrontyr Ship Arnstoan Rhien, a large cruiser, currently in Earth orbit. At the sides of the bay the large structures of war-machines could be seen, ranging from the giant Monolith war engines to the squat Obelisks and even more esoteric pieces of equipment. He began to commune with the ship, inquiring about its stock of ‘Pylon’ fixed gun emplacements, as the watched various squads of warriors snap to life and set off through another shimmering portal at a jog.

Elyria-Lorain, Northern Coast

The ship had found a nicely sized cave to set the terminus of the portal inside, away from the sight of anyone or anything flying past. One by one, the skeletal mechanical warriors were guided through the portal – a device which, as well as linking two points in space, had the complicated task of matching entrance and exit momentums and velocities relative to the ground. That particular problem had caused some rather messy accidents before the technology was nailed down just right, as users would shoot out of a ground based portal at the multiple-kilometres per second relative velocity of a space ship.

‘Elanta’ as he was known to his associates, was one of the warriors assigned to Arnran’s group. Well, in technical terms, he as twenty of them. Necron warriors were essentially terminals, controlled by a single mind in a fashion similar to computer games, though far more sophisticated. He watched through the eyes of one of his soldiers as it reached the larger of the cave’s entrances, thermal-vision scanning the shoreline and sky for activity.

Satisfied, after a moment, that there was nothing in the immediate area, he had the necron kneel down behind a loose scree of shingle, minimising its profile and bringing its glowing green eyes – if there was any advantage to fighting necrons at night, it was that they did tend to emit quite a bit of light from some systems – out of the view of anyone on the beach.

Elanta busied himself studying power-grid reception in the area, and satisfied that his troops would not need to conserve energy, had some of them join in the task of bracing the cave and exploring the cave system, occasionally using their weapons to cut doorways from one area to another or stairs where the caves turned upwards or down, or even to burn narrow slits out of the side of the loosely compacted rocky cliff they were working under.

Other units began moving out across the beach, looking for other useful positions to occupy, while more moved through the portal to begin the complex and arcane process of deploying scarab-mines under the sands, artificers constructing more from the waste-material while specialist builders and summoners moved through the quickly growing field headquarters, installing equipment and transforming base rock into dense slabs to repel small-arms fire.

Arnran casually drifted in one of the larger areas, watching as warriors and builders, who reinforced the rock by transforming parts of it into granite frames, cut niches into the walls. He watched as they worked, and casually skittered into one of the niches, walking with an insect like gait into a rapidly growing sensor area. He activated his internal communications system; with any luck, the local leader should have received the physical device containing the decryption database by now…

The Battleship H.D.S. Argo and her escorts closed within 10 miles of the approaching demonic hordes.
"Order all ships to make a port turn and open fire" ordered Admiral Dayron from the Command CIC.
The Argo turned to port at 27 knots and her 12 18.1 inch ETC guns fired as soon as they came to bare. With in seconds the rest of the squadron opened up with all of their missiles and gun batteries.
For five minutes the ships hammered the demons then the guns fell silent, it was now the Tarlag's air crafts turn to lay their destructive cargo's on their targets. The two wings of Gripen fighters flying at 60,000 feet began dropping cluster bombs among the demonic troops. After they droped their bombs they began diving down into the flying devils and firing at them with their 27mm cannon. Only after their cannon went empty did they return to base, then the 230 various carrier born aircraft took their turn in the attack. For 20 minutes the carrier aircraft droped their ordnance and emptied their guns apon the approaching demons.
When the last of the fighters cleared the area the Tarlag warships began their assault anew opening up with all their gun batteries.

Aboard the H.D.S. Argo Admiral Dayron watched the destruction that was being sent the Demons way. "Captain Richards close to 1500 meters and order all ships to fire their light AA into that formation."
"But Sir our that is to close for our main batteries."
"Fire on a flat trajectory with HE shells, those should rip through a good number before they explode."
"Communications any word from Lady Stormhand?"
"No sir, the only word we have gotten from Elyria-Lorain is that the 7th RCT just got reinforced by those Mark 9 AI units and the 1st Ironhold Cohort has also pushed forward to relieve them."
Dayron looked towards the advancing host "Even with the reinforcements they will be overrun in a few hours. Captain order a second air strike by all air units and order the Riddenmark's squadron here at flank speed to help us sent these things back to where they belong."
