OOC: When you knew...

By now, most of the best players of this game are generally well-known for thier prowess, whether that be AMF and his spine-tingling military RP writing; Pacitalia for his descriptions of scenes that are so vivid, you feel you're there; Azazia for the enormous detail he puts into political posts that make you feel like you can see the sweat form on his characters' brows, to character RPers whose minor characters are people you'd like to share a beer with -- or smack upside the head.

Everyone has to begin somewhere; though in my opinion, there's usually a point fairly early on in someone's RPing career when a more established player can tell that a new or relatively new player has promise. This thread is designed for you to tell those stories. I'll give one example to get this ball rolling.

When Praetonia posted a thread about an anti-slavery conference in his capital, I was impressed with the professionalism and the level of detail his post entailed and it gave me an inclination that he was a good player in the making. The aims were clear and the rules were easy to follow. Unfortunately, I hadn't seen his first-ever post on the NationStates boards, because that would have given me an idea of how good I thought he was going to be.

Let's see those stories roll!

I'm propably not the best person to judge but I think that the Kraven v Xirnium war ( http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=447234&highlight=Novacom in this link ) is propably one of the best RP's been done lately, I really could imagine such a war happening, the amount of depth that the sides characters have is extreme.

<whistles>

I'll just hang around here and see if anyone mentions my name (I'm posting as my U.N. puppet, with whom I seldom RP). If they don't, I'll be crushed... ;)

Seriously, I haven't been around long enough to see any great new players emerge - at least I think I haven't. Most of the great RP'ers that I know were already here.

But since it would be rude not to name somebody, I'll mention Boghimia, who's RP is promising and whose cunning is just plain scary; I found this out going up against him in the dying Age of Imperialism threads, where he threatened to turn Romania into a world power. Some trick, that...

(There were other good players - in the sense of being devious, sneaky, underhanded, treacherous <expletive deleteds>, but most of them need some work before I'll call them great RP'ers. I don't include Warta Endor, Sharina, and Lachenburg in that bunch because I think they're all established players whose involvement with NationsStates predates mine (and hence, not "emergent" talent); their RP is already good to great.

Xirnium: When I first read his opening, introduction thread, About selling Populace for Nukes to punish his own people with, I thought it was a random N00b being silly, Then when I actualy read his work, and his nation progressed and reformed, it is a very detailed and in depth nation, I love reading his work and his RP skills are some of the best around here for such a new player, I strongly urge people to check out Xirniums writing skills, it makes for pleasant reading!

One for Modesty as well eh Kraven?

I'd say that both writers excelled themselves in that thread and the others ones they're involved in. I remember watching it from roughly the beginning when Xirnium and Kahanistan were enemies.

Thanks, it means a lot, as for your RP style, some of your posts were good, but you took control of some of my characters and troop movements if i remember rightly, and which is generally frowned upon, you need to get into some more RP's and develop your nation more, so far ive only seen your nation poking its diplomatic nose in other peoples business, and I'm proud that im your favourite enemy, Soon your nation will be brought in line ;)

I have to admit, I loved Kraven's RPing; he shone when amongst those who were worse than he; and impressed me with his dynamic outlook and flexibility; his ability to stay consistent between threads; and RP effectively, even through change. He's an inspiration to any new RPers on the scene; and was a firm ally to me when he first appeared on the scene (Despite his better judgement ;) )

Thank you, I didn't realise that people actualy liked what I did, it makes NS all the more worthwhile :)

I have to admit when i first read about the Chronosia Imperium, it captivated me, I loved the idea that the Horus Heresy had sort of Succeeded only in your image. Brilliant.

Hmmm, in addition to Kaduna and Chronosia, there, I have now joined in. So make that four.

I see a lot of MT, PMT RP'ers being mentioned, with only a few FT ones. I'd ask how I'm doing, but compared to some others here, it'd probably be better to save what little pride I have ^_^. (Plus I don't RP much period, so who'd be able to give a fair judgment anyway?) [/end thinly veiled whine.]

For the most part, I hold A Few Rich People's statement as a summery of my opinion.

Meh, I've been around for a short while, and don't tend to RP too often. Many people probebly barely know who I am if at all. But my old first threads used to give MelekTaus some good detail and character, a rare oddity in that it is a Military nation ruled by an imperial monarch who is head of the Satanic cult of the nation... I just haven't been bothered to getting round into full scale war RPs to give my characters depth. For going the (flopped) Archipellago RP where the previous Emperor, Alex, ordered nuclear armed vessels to go into international waters, which forced a nation of equal strength to be scared into an alliance with me...

But, meh, I'm sure oppotunities will arise. Currently, I've been involved in trying to get this n00bish, probebly now inactive out of fear, nation out of the WACL (Which I'm not even part of). Using invasion along side Fed. of AB if neccissary...

I didn't even get a sympathy mention. :(

Seriously however... my true RP career started in about September '05, so I didn't actually get a chance to see very many new players develop. Nonetheless, I still tend to think of April 2005 nations as n00bs or at the very least newbs, even though some younger nations (SEA, TKC, Novacom, Antanjyl for example) are actually fairly good. (Which, if you know me, is high praise. ;))

I first started playing, though, as a nation called Trolsk back in October 2004. Even started RPing beginning of 2005 as Trolsk, with lots of Imperial Knightliness and nuclear weapons. Lol.

Eh join dates aren't as important as when they started posting though. Since the newbs are just beginners in the forums. You could join the site at anytime.

Droloon: You have potential....the tier rpers must be wanting to establish relations with you. And is your nation a democracy now BTW?

Tier rpers must be good, so thanks. Anywho, as for me being democratic. Kinda. The Central Government (that being the Populus Vox voxcis) and the Emperor are democratic. Emperor assumes some power, very little, but enough to have a voice. Real power lies in the President, who is surprisingly the brother of the Emperor (and no, not a rigged election). Though the Govorners of the Provinces are commonly known as 'Perum Dictators' or "Too Little Dictators", which just means their all dictators, they pay their taxes and they feel thats all they have to do, along with forcing conscription when the central government calls for it. Also, about one third of the army is autonomous due to poor manage during the 400 Year Alexi Dynasty. So yea, technically I'm democratic, though in reality I'm basically in the grey between a Totaltarian Military Junta and a Xenophobic Democracy.

Yes, but as far as I can tell, Antanjyl only began RPing fairly recently. In addition, while s/he appears to have joined some time ago, his/her nation has only about 1.5 billion citizens (give or take)...so I kind of consider him/her to be "new" even though s/he may have joined a while ago...

Besides, I've had nations on this site for some time longer than Czardas now myself, although most of them have died by now.
