Military Trainings 2006: The Prologue. (Open RP)

Van Luxemburg
13-12-2005, 15:40
(OOC: this is a sort of "prologue" to the coming MILEX VL '06. The complete battle will this time be in the Van Luxemburgian Swiss/Austrian/Italian/German alps. I therefore, to get players trusted with the area, will run a prologue, so everyone can travel round the area to explore possible strategic areas. I have recently completely thrown the complete concept over another bow. I will run ONE battle every RL YEAR. The RP system, developed by Listeneisse, tries to prevent "Unknown Godmoding", say, moving your troops (infantry without any support) over the alps in only one day. therefore, I copied this from the original MILEX Thread.

FROM: MILEXCOM
TO: ALL NATIONS INVOLVED
SUBJECT: BATTLE 3

Goodafternoon, ladies and gentlemen. we have a situation here. OPFOR has landed near Genua and has captured Milano. they are currently marching up towards the Alps, and MP forces have been stationed on the other side of the alps, and are now moving to reinforce positions of the non-existant MP forces in the south. MP and OPFOR forces will clash in the Alps, in an area running in the square Zürich-Milano-Salzburg-Venezia, and that has been closed off for civilian visit during the exercises. be advised that there still are some civilians living or operating buildings.
Starting points:
MP: München (Munich)
OPFOR: Milano (Milan)
VL MP:
SSR Korps I:
20 Eagle IV
10 Leclerc MBT
10 Tiger Attack Helicopters

7th Division:
1,000 Leopard 2A6 MBT
1,000 AMX-10RC Light Tank
366 ERC-90 Sagaie Light Tank
1318 VAB APC
655 VBL APC
182 AMX-30 AuF1 Mechanised Artillery
142 MRLS Mechanised Rocket artillery
16 HM2 Towed artillery
18 BF-50 Towed Artillery
190 F3 Mechanised Artillery
134 RTF1 Mortar
133 M-51 Mortar
2295 Renault Kerax Trucks
1967 DAF TROPCO Trucks
86 Tigre Attack helicopter
165 NH-90 Transport Helicopter
2320 Eagle IV 4x4 Reconaissance Vehicle

387 Interceptor Wing
96 Rafale Multirole Aircraft

also I would like to give you a tip. the Brennerpass and the Gotthardpass are the best ways to cross the alps. tunnels ther ehave been closed because of the fear of damaging the structure of it. anyways, I will try to supply you with some accurate maps of the area over time.

also, for everyone's record, we have made some changes to the system, as we saw them earlier. this time, we'll operate in blocks of 4 NS Hours every RL day, or if someone hasn't catched up yet, somewhat longer. this means that we can RP an NS Day in about a RL week. for every day, everyone is friendly asked to submit their objectives for that day, on which I (and Listeneisse, the mastermind behind this whole plan) will check on credibility (such as pulling your forces over the alps in one day when counting on heavy fighting.) this all is to forecome issues we've had earlier with this (rather unknown) sort of godmoding.

also, we have made some changes to the original battle plan. now, OPFOR will start from the line Turin-Milan-Verona-Venice, and MP along the line Basel-Zürich-Friedrichshafen-München-Linz-Wien. we also now count that Slovenia and France are off-limits, and you may use the complete Austro-Swiss area.

Also, for this time, and all following battles, I will only take one side, as I'm afraid that two sides get a bit busy. it also asked me to divert RPíng skills over those two, and that did not make my RP better.

also, a word on the airbases. there are several bases around this location, in particular these ones:

MP
one near München (Überrhein AFB) constructed by Van Luxemburg. this means that there are 2 strips, crosswise laid, with hangars for up to 300 aircraft. that does not include aircraft staying outside, which could include another 100.

OPFOR
Milan (Di Venezia AFB, reserve airfield, so the quality of facilities isn't up-to-date) once again constructed by me, 3 strips, hangars for up to 200 aircraft and 50 outside.
a small one in Venice (Po AFB), counting one strip and space for 75 aircraft.

"NEUTRAL" (to be captured)
one near Interlaken (Meiringen AFB), counting 4 strips and space for 350 aircraft inside, and 50 outside.
one in Gmünd, (Aigen im Ennstal) near the Tauernautobahn. it counts 1 strip, space for 40 aircraft inside, 20 outside.

Thank you All!

Also, I will run MILEX VL '06 on a new thread. The starting date of the actual thread is still unknown. probably Early 2006, depending on availability of former players. Don't be afraid to ask any questions!

IC:

Luxembourg, The Grand Ducal Palace

The Minister was tired, by the many hours behind his PC and on presentations, and whatnot. He had just stepped into the office of the Grand Duke, a large space in the palace. The Grand Duke, Koen, was seated in a large leather chair, turned to the glass window, on the opposite site of his desk, and the Minister.
"Ehm, Sir, Koen, May I interrupt you?"
The chair began to move. what was only the back of the chair earlier, now became the Grand Duke.
"What is it, Van Loon?" The Grand Duke spoke with a friendly intonation. It made the minister feel home, with his wife, and kids, which he hadn't seen in days, becuase of his rather busy job.
"Ehm.." Bas van Loon didn't knew how to start. He still was a bit afraid of the person seated in the large chair.
"Koen, I wanted to propose to make a prologue on the trainings that are planned next year. You know, let foreign representatives check-out the area where the fight will take place. I'll prepare some guides for that regions, aswell as the needed resources. Shall I send invitations to nations?"
The Grand Duke rolled his chair towards the desk and inserted some data in his Alienware PC. After the sound of a searching PC, aswell as a reading DVD-drive, and a running HD, He answered.
"Do so, Bas. About the Resources, check my garage in Crans-Montana and Aschau. They should contain more than enough BMW's. Also, get the Airforce and Army to give some Heli's, Jet's and reconaissance vehicles to the cause. I don't care If it costs some money, I can pay it. Also make sure that there's enough hotels open in that region."
The Minister stared through the window, showing the peaceful setting of Luxembourg, with coloured houses and large churches and cathedrals.
"Ofcourse, Koen. At your orders."
He thereafter turned around, and almost hit the Grand Duke's secretary, which was called to write a letter. He therefter got back to his -compared to the Grand Duke's little- chamber on the third floor of the Government building, or Chambersbureau. The Grand Duke and his secretary were already busy with the letters.

Koen here,

Brad, Could you send this message through to all nations in your database? Please leave this out. I don't want them to see the VLIA communicating with me. Got it? On to work! I'll get you, Brad McKensey!.

To Whom it may concern.

I, The Grand Duke, have decided to host new military exercises in 2006. This is once again open to all other nations. This time, it will play in the Van Luxemburgian Alps. München, Germany

The NHindustries NH-90's blades cut through the open air. The air was hot, because of exhaust fumes of the helicopter itself. The helicopter was not new, but the example of the love that Van Luxemburgian pilots put in their chopper. The green helicopter lifted off the deck that had been set up for it, and headed south. In it was the Minister of Defence, Bas van Loon, and the VLIA chef, Brad McKensey. They were the only passengers of the large bird, esxcept for the pilot, co-pilot and gunner. The helicopter was inbound for the little town of Reutte, laying in the Tiroler Alpen. The two high-ranked men were not on vacation, but on a trip to set out the Van Luxemburgian tactics, so they wouldn't interfere with foreign representatives checking the area. In Reutte, their help would be waiting. The commanders of Korps 1, Mechdiv 3 and Alpbrig 9.

The Helicopter mowed away any dirt that would've been laying on top of the thick layer of snow. On the heliport, the snow had been cleared, but not outside of the area. As Van Loon looked out of his window, He saw the three men, and three of the Van Luxemburgian Army's Eagle IV vehicles. They were painted white, together with small pieces of green. It was the standard camouflage for the Alps, and the vehicles seemingly had their engines running, he thought as he witnessed the dark fumes coming from the exhausts on the vehicle.

As he got out, He was greeted by the three men, in the winter uniforms of the Van Luxemburgian Army. They all introduced themselves, before they got into the vehicles, which had Alpbrig 9 markings on them.
"Leonard De Vert, Commander of Korps 1, Special Service Rainbow." The first in line said. He was fat. not normal fat, but fat of the muscles he had. He was the type that did a sprint against someone else every morning, and would be grumbling the rest of the day, if he lost that sprint. The next man was somewhat more normal. He was friendly, and probably becoming more bold every day.
"Harm Kloppers. Mechdiv 3, Van Luxemburgian Army, stationed at Salzburg."
Van Loon thought. It was not very usual to see a Dutchman in Austria. He decided to just ask.
"Kloppers? Salzburg? Not a very usual combination, is it?"
The man, who looked somewhat surprised, answered the question somewhat delighted of his sort-of victory.
"My parents moved to Salburg to open their store. I moved with them."
With a nod, Van Loon moved on to the last person in line.
"Wolfgang Riedmann, Alpbrig 9, stationed in Reutte. here, so to say."
Van Loon and McKensey nodded while looking around. It showed several barracks, all with the markings of Alpbrig 9.
"OK, I then think we're ready to go, isn't?" McKensey said to the other four, with an expression of happiness on his face.

The three Eagle 4x4's drove off the base, and entered the small Bundesstrasse, indicating that they were heading for Imst-Landeck-Fiss.
The Vehicles could have been quite impressing on the Bundesstrasse. They were almost as large as trucks, and took up 3/4th of the road. that was not the only thing. The rest of the road hadn't been sweeped, and were full of snow. Other cars quickly shoved up into the snow, to give the vehicles a full road.

The Eagles were making good progress, and almost drove into Imst when Riedmann ordered the column to stop. He got out, and stepped into the snow, while reading his military map. As the rest got out, he laid the map on the hood of the leading Eagle, and asked the drivers to get out too. when they all stood around the map, he pointed at Imst.
"This is a possible important location. it's in the middle of the Alps, and covers the A12. It provides easy access to the Brenner and the B315, aswell as Vaduz in Liechtenstein. We need to secure this location as quickly as possible. That was all. Anyone has a reaction?"
De Vert lifted his hand, and asked his question.
"If you are aiming on this, wehn are you able to reach St. Moritz? I can't keep that whole village secured forever. It's quite important, and as soon as OPFOR knows that we're there, they'll send a whole goddamned taskforce!"
McKensey nodded. He knew everything of it, as he already checked those locations before. Riedmann kept looked at the map before answering.
"I know that you can't hold it long." He looked at De Vert, before checking both sides of the road, to ensure no traffic was oncoming. He then got on with his answer. "It's already a planned part of our strategy. It's on the road to St. Moritz, so it won't take anymore than several hours to establish absolute security here. My men will do this, while Kloppers' men will drive on to Landeck, which they will secure, and we overtake them to secure Fiss, so everytime a group will keep rolling and another secures a city or town. Satisfied?" De Vert nodded. He had heard enough, and got into his Eagle, and so did the others.

As the Eagle IV's moved on, it became later and later. 1600 hours, 1700 hours. At 1800 hours, the Eagle IV's stalled in one of the Stau's on the A12. The A12, one of the busiest roads in the Alps, was completely filled up with lines and lines of vehicles. After some hours in the jam, The Eagles managed to get to an ARALTankstelle near Landeck. There, they fueled up, and the men got out of the vehicles. While the group walked towards the large restaurant, Riedmann still held the map, and looked at it like it was made of pure gold.

When they walked in the door of the roadway-restaurant, an indisguisable sound of voices rolled and embraced the men. They immediately overlooked the number of people and saw it was filled up with men and women, which also had been parked in the jam. McKensey looked at the rest, while looking very tired and hungry.
"I suggest we get off the A12 and search for something there. This is nothing."
The others nodded and with one last look at the crowd in the restaurant, they left for the vehicles.

Somewhat later, the vehicles were waiting to get on the A12 again. The next exit was kilometers away, and the line wasn't making any progress. Van Loon was staring at the scenery, and tried not to think of food. He was hungry, but hadn't left his right mind. He saw a small gate with the words Nur Dienst. This got him to think. If they took that road, they would have reached a nice restaurant/hotel in a short while. He almost pulled the driver out of his chair when he attended him at the entrance.
"Linger! Isn't this a possibility? We can get through that!"
Linger looked up, and in his frustration, he almost lost his temper.
"NO! Ehm, wait, excuse me, sir. It's a possibility."
Linger signalled the man next to him, which got out when the coast was clear. The 3 4x4's heavily accelerated and drove through the gate, which was closed behind them, by the soldier which thereafter got in his Eagle.
The three vehicles carried on through thick snow, and were now heading for the little town of Ladis, renowned for it's Wintersports facilities.

Some hours later, it now was near 2200 hours, the vehicles entered the little town. Linger now had took the adress of the recommended hotel, Laderhof, in front of him. He drove in the rough direction of the hotel, and took the right side on the intersection. Heavy snow almost blocked the sight, and Linger and Van Loon now checked the surroundings for the four-star hotel, as they were the first vehicle to arrive in Ladis.
"I see it!"
Van Loon pointed at a large building set with the backside against a mountain. It clearly showed the name of the hotel, Laderhof.

At 2210 hours exactly, the group stepped into the lobby. The receptionist, who had been spending his time with reading magazines, looked up from the latest issue of the Veronica TV guide. He immediately began to speak German to the unexpected visitors, and called security to check out the men in winter camo who had just came in.
[Translated from German]
"What are we doing here? Security! I have visitors, request assistance!"
Van Loon immediately showed his ID to the man, and calmed him. He told him that they were looking for a room, aswell as some food. The recpetionist calmed down, and gave him access to the restaurant, which was very silent at half past 10 in the evening, aswell as several rooms in the same hallway.

Some minutes later, the security stormed in. The man had pulled his FN pistol, and aimed it at the unknown visitors. While the Receptionist tried to get him to stash the weapon away, he clearly wasn't able to get it done.
At that moment, De Vert pulled his SIG-Sauer pistol, and his ID card.
"De Vert, Van Luxemburgian Army. Lower your weapon immediately!"
The Guard was surprised by this action, and he stashed his weapon away. As De Vert invited him for Schnapps, he quickly accepted, laughing about his deed. The evning was long for the men, and enjoyable.

That morning

When De Vert woke up, he quickly put his clothes on and looked outside. The only thing he could see was snow. everywhere, on the roofs, on the roads, and worst of all, on their vehicles. He walked up to the door, opened it, and almost walked over Riedmann, who was trying to knock on his door. he looked somewhat wound up, but serious though.
"What is it, Wolf?"
Wolfgang looked up against the man, 2 meters long, instead of his lucky 1.70 meters.
"we're completely snowed in. No access to the B315, and other roads. The receptionist said we'd better spent our time on some skiing."
Leonard looked down with his turn.
"Smurf, I'll tell you, that's a good plan!"
Wolfgang was surprised by the reaction of De Vert. Leonard looked like a quite serious person, almost too serious.
"Well, let's get down to breakfast, The rest is waiting for us. You might put on a ski suit thereafter, I hope you have one." He replied.

After some glasses of Orangensaft (also known as Orangejuice) and cornflakes, The group got outside in the snow. Harm was the first to lose his seriousness. A white ball hit the head of Wolf, and shattered into separate pieces. Shortly after that, The snow was flyng between two Eagle reconaissance vehicles. On the one side, the Minister, VLIA head and several drivers had hidden themselves from sight, while the rest had done so on the other side. One of the soldiers on the VLIA side had been sent out with the orders to get some more men. He shortly thereafter returned with a pitching machine, stolen from the Hotels' Gym. It was loaded up with snowballs, and put on the hood of the vehicle. The weapon began pitching the balls, towards the head of De Vert, which was hit by several snowballs at once.
"Hey! What are we trying to do?! Get them, Guys!"
At that order, one of the soldiers of his side turned around and ran towards the entrance of the hotel. He was however hit by a ball from McKenseys hand, and wasn't able to move on.

After some minutes, a white flag made of a Alpbrig division baret was waved by the Army side. They surrendered under the wrath of the pitching machine.
"That wasn't funny, with the pitcher."
McKensey lookeed at Riedmann, who was completely covered with the leftovers of the pitching machines' snowballs.
"Ah, with skiing you're certainly better than me." McKensey commented while they walked inside to change their clothes, as the military suits were completely coloured white of the snow.

"You've got to be kidding me. One, the Alps? Are you kidding me?! And two, I'm not riding around in around in some armored transport like no mechanized punk. That just ain't happening," spouted Sergeant Second Class Jared Day as he leaned back in his recliner. The others of Gladiator Unit, 22nd SOF-D nodded their heads in agreement, some smiling, others not.

"One, yeah, you're going to the Alps. It'll be greaet Alpine training, which you need. And two, you don't have to roll around like mechanized punks. You've got a couple of Toyota Tacoma's still in the shed; take them. Of course, it's going to be cold, and riding in the back of that thing may get a little chilly. I'd suggest the Suburbans," replied Colonel Lee Ramsdell, commander of the 22nd SOF-D Regiment. The unit of twelve men looked around, shaking their heads, in a somewhat silent form of satisfaction.

"Lee, who all's going," asked one of the soldiers from the rear of the small room.

"We've got you guys representing our Special Forces, two Sections from the Twenty-Third Infantry, and one battalion from the One Eighty-Fifth Aviation."

"Twenty-Third... Twenty-Third... Twenty-Third...," several in the room started to mumble.

"Yeah. The Twenty-Third 'Shattered Union' Division," finished Ramsdell.

"Aw yeah! Hey, that ain't bad-" started one of the soldiers.

"That ain't bad at all. I'd go to war with anyone from 'Shattered Union' anyday. That's a good bunch a' guys right there," finished SSC Day. "But why are we taking a battalion from the One Eighty-Fifth?"

"Actually, correction... We're taking one Unit from Kilo Company, and the Air Forces are sending a Flight of A-17s and a Flight of A-36Bs for Ground and Close Air Support."

"Still, why a Unit from the One Eighty-Fifth at all? We're not having Helo-tansport, are we?" asked SSC Day again.

"The One Eighty-Fifth is the Ground Forces' only Air Traffic Services Regiment. Our plan is to take one of these airfields- which one we aren't sure of yet. And when we take it, we're holding it. And we ain't about to let some foreign Controllers try to control traffic while we're there," Ramsdell continued, getting the men fired up. Air Traffic Control was just about as hardcore as the Special Forces in the SCAF. If there was anybody the Sniper Country Special Forces dared not diss, it was the Controllers. "Cause boys, we're going to show these fella's what we got."

The room of twelve troops from Gladiator Unit plus Ramsdell erupted with cheers, applause, and laughter.

Smiling, the Colonel continued. "Go get your Battle Rattle. Be prepared to move out at moment's notice. Got that?"

"Howard that, Lee!" several yelled, as the Unit got up and headed out of the small room, to gather their weapons and equipment and await further instructions.

Commander-General Mark Spitz, commander of the entire Sniper Country Armed Forces, sent his memo to the proper Van Luxemburg officials, stating the SCAF's interest in the exercise, along with the units attending, forgetting to state the exact numbers of the units. Ladis

The group consisting of the commanders, minister and soldiers got together in front of the hotel after they had put on clean clothes. McKensey was the first one to get in the vehicles, and start it. The rest quickly followed.

As they arrived at the skilifts, the men embraced themselves with the idea that they were off-duty for that one day. Time for wintersports!
Riedmann this time was the first to get it's equipment and ready. He waited for the other commanders, which were quickly ready. The minister and the VLIA head were a problem however. They were used to a heated office in Luxembourg, and not the piste. Van Loon was quickly finished however, but McKensey was acting quite dumb with his equipment. He didn't manage to get his ski's on his feet. De Vert quickly solved the problem by fixing them himself.

Somewhat later, The group was on the lifts, almost on top of the hill, when McKensey started worrying. What if I drop down out of this lift? What if I fall on the way down? Oh, man, he didn't like this. When they were on the top, Riedmann started first, followed by De Vert, Kloppers, Van Loon, and McKensey last. While the first four elegantly waved over the piste, McKensey slipped, and headed for an off-Piste area. As the other men saw it, they stopped, and became the specators of the spectacle. McKensey was shouting at them to help, but they didn't. It was way too funny. The whole group were almost laying on the ground of laughter, but McKensey certainly wasn't. With a loud bang, he crashed against a small spruce, while in a jump. He hit the top of it, and got stuck there. Some minutes later, when the others had finished laughing, he was got out of the tree, and took to the hotel. There he recovered, and he thought he wouldn't go skiing ever again.

Task Force Fenrir, 20 kilometres from Van Luxemburgian waters...

The Wingardian sixteen-ship task force, designated Fenrir, had been enroute to Van Luxemburg escorting a transport convoy carrying the units that would be participating in the MILEX '06 traning exercises. The vessels were now about to enter Van Luxemburgian waters.

"This is the Wingardian carrier WFN Nordheim, flagship of Task Force Fenrir. Requesting permission to enter Van Luxemburg territorial waters. We are escorting our MILEX '06 assets. Over." The communications officer reported over the comms.

Admiral Friedmann, the commanding officer of the aircraft carrier, had a troubled look on his face. He had been avidly watching the news lately, and was worried about the tensions with the Vuhifellian States. Fenrir wouldn't stay put if there was an attack on Van Luxemburg, but that was yet to be seen.
