OOC: This isn't an RP thread in a normal sense. It is in character, but it's mostly just for announcements. Other Earth II nations can post their nations responses to the reforms I suppose.

After an exceptionally long rule, The Great Prophet Zarquon, Supreme Ruler of the Imperium of Squornshelous. Zarquon maintains that his long rule was simply due to inopportune circumstances whenever he prepared to step down. First, he was forced to suspend Squornshelous's first free and open election due to the surprise invasion by Eppessenia. He kept the country under control through that time of turbulence, and now, after a few years of stabilization, he has deemed the time right to reform our government. Zarquon feels that any instability in this time of transition would be very dangerous to our nation, and so instead of leaping right into an election, he has instead, named his immediate successor: The Prophet Bokonon. Bokonon was the second executive during most of Zarquon's rule.
Most significant in the reforms to the government will be the fact that heads of state will no longer be appointed for life, and will serve 6 year terms. Public elections will be held to determine the new head of state. Also, the quasi-religious title of Prophet will be dropped from all public offices. It was the Prophet Bokonon himself who proposed this particular reform, saying that the view of a leader as a religious figure was not conducive with democracy. From this day forward, the Squornshelan head of state will be referred to as Premier. These reforms will pave the way for more drastic changes in the future, including, we are told, the formation of a parliament. However, in order to keep the country stable, Bokonon will remain a supreme executive, and the first parliament will be elected along with the new Premier in six years.
