NOVA BOOZIA FACTBOOK

Nation referred to as: Boozia (not Nova Boozia)
People referred to as: Boozites (nationality), Boozians
(ethnic group).
State religion: Boozism
Government type: Total control by democratic military.

Government details: The military controls all aspects of the nation, and they are controlled by the council. There are seven members; four junior, representing army, navy, airforce and marines; three senior, transcending service boundary. One senior, the Supreme Commandant (title), Field Marshall/Grand admiral/High Marshall/Grand Marshall/War Administrator (ranks, the last one is civil service), or Warmaster (unofficial, archaic title) has power over the other two, but rarely exercises it outside the field. Every six years each service elects it’s councillor. There is no limit to the time they can serve, but they must be a General/Admiral/Marshall, a member of the civil service, and have served for at least three years and won four battles at reasonable odds. Only commissioned officers and the bearers of certain medals may vote, councillors may not. The seniors are selected when a senior dies or reaches the end of his fifty year term in office (this limit does not apply to the supreme-commandant). To be selected, a junior must have served at least ten years, have been voted for by 60% or more in his most recent election, and be endorsed by the current supreme commandant, who must endorse two juniors . The council then votes on which of the two endorsed juniors becomes a new senior, and an election for a new junior is called. When the supreme commandant dies, the juniors vote on which senior will replace him. Ties are broken by a public vote, and public ties are broken by single combat. The objective of the duel is not to kill, and accidental killers will not be elevated (historically, this has caused civil wars). The council is the peak of both military and civil service hierarchies, although the civil service is effectively an abnormal branch of the military. All industries are nationalised or, in the backwater regions of small federation members (more on them soon), cottage level.

The federation is not a nation, as such, but effectively functions as one for all external and most internal affairs.
Boozia itself comprises about 60% of it’s population and landmass. The other members have no militaries, and contribute to the Boozian forces, but there are prejudices, for example in Alba the navy is considered the senior service and many of the best sailors are Albese. Some nations also maintain cultural uniforms and local doctrines, and even equipment, although such items are usually ceremonial, like Albese dirks and Vhoorzhenstranksi Strelet axes. Member countries are governed from Boozia and are primarily distinctions of language, culture, and climate within the varied federation.

To outsiders, Boozia is quite hostile, due to the peoples deep down, nomad born urge to move and expand, coupled with their hyper-militarism, but they are willing to make alliances and keep the peace where beneficial, and the high value placed on loyalty keeps them close to trustworthy allies. Overall, however, Boozia is aggressive and seeks to topple established world order, especially the UN

Culture: Boozites have a Germanic-tribes type of worldview which is organized into the philosophy/religion (no gods, but a belief in spirits and the supernatural) of Boozism. The most basic belief centres on the famous destruction/creation/stagnation trio, which can be tied to the environment of the proto-boozian culture: The Carlusites (see history) always raised new castles and palaces; the Vhoorzhenstranski protected their sacred places and ancient settlements viciously, but destroyed any Carlusite colonies, and the Albese just burned an killed all they could find.
Notably, Boozia is missing here: in the Boozist version of the trio, a new force, Boozism itself, is added.
Boozism was in fact adopted from Carlusism, where it represents the Ultimate evil, and performs an almost identical role in this cycle to the Boozist version, that of unbalancer, often destroying along with the destroyer, so that the universe shrinks; sometimes creating so that it grows; but never stabilizing, because that has no effect. In both versions, Boozism seeks to assimilate other forces, learning and growing, until it powerful enough to destroy the other forces. Calusism regards this as ragnarok, and to be avoided at all costs, but Boozism regards it as more of a judgement day, with Boozists and other authorised groups ascending to a new plane of existence and restarting the cycle, leaving behind an unstable world which soon collapses. This is eternal, the planes of existence are infinite, and Boozism believes that they must carry out this cycle or there would be no change, which is highly important to Boozists. Boozists believe that the dead are sent to the next world to prepare for the next “great leap”.

The religion is currently undergoing its first major schism. Like most religions, there is a messiah, who comes around every time the world collapses, to keep things heading in the right direction. He is not supernatual, just very important. The religious authorities believe that this world is nearing it's end and are looking for him, largely in the services, since he is traditionally a soldier. One faction believes he has yet to be found, while the other is a union of cults that herald various individuals, from the famous Lieughtenant Flodt to seemingly random street kids, as the messiah. Very few of these messiahs actually believe in them selves, and Supreme Commandant Hallget has claimed he will arrest anyone who even whisperes that he (the Supreme commandant) or they are the messiah.

Boozians place a value in their history and date letters, posters and tickets to help future historians. They also frequently create time capsules filled with large computer libraries. They believe that without memory, change is impotent because nothing is different, as far as they know.

The official languages of Boozia are high Boozian and low Boozian, the latter being spoken by all citizens, the former learnt as a lingua franca throughout the federation. Federation members teach their children the native language and high Boozian. They have much in common, but high Boozian contains easier, more universal sound forms and more borrowed words.
