ooc: This is pretty much closed between me and DO, but if you are really interested TG us and we might be able to work something out.
DO, if large ooc could be done via TG?
Ic: Just a few days ago the upgraded fleet had been commissioned. Now, part of it went to war. No formal declaration was sent, just the ships. One of each of Kazecistan's main naval ships- a Super Cruiser (SC), a Heavy Battle Carrier (HBC), and a Torpedo Ship (TS)- were sent. The small task force had but one goal, attack and destroy or capture a small grouping of enemy ships near the fringes of their boarder. Yes, it was an intrusion into enemy space. Yes, it was a raid upon a small group of unprepared vessels. But this was what had happened to Kazecistan. In truth, it was nothing more than retribution.
3 bright flashes of light marked their arrival. They rushed fourth, shields and weapons charged. The only signal broadcast was done so repetitively and without end. We are of Kazecistan. We come to exact retribution. As they approached the inferior force, their weapons delivered but a taste of the pain to come.
ooc: I was thinking that for the story of it it might be best if I won the first of the skirmishes, but it's all fair game. I haven't a plan for any of the others.

((
1) Large OOCs can be here, I can sort them out without difficulty.
2) Yes, you should win this one, you attacked an area that doesn't have a lot of ships with a superior force. A tactic like that should net a victory.
))
Two frigates and a half-dozen corvettes were doing a patrol run in the outer rim system of DO's border when the Kazecistan trio jumped into the system. The newly updated ships of the Kazecistan navy allowed them to close the distance quickly. Long range weapons already met range and it was only a few minutes before the small task force would overwelm the patrol. The patrol ships began to make a run for it toward the atmosphere of the nearby gas giant. They hoped the interference the swirling clouds generated would provide them with enough time to slingshot around the planet (using it as a shield) and make the jump in out-system.

ooc: If it suits you, go for it.
Ic: The chase began. Their upgrades had improved their speed, but they were still large vessels. As long-range weapons came into range, they let loose on the smallest of the targets. Ion beams lanced out, connecting the large Kazeci ships with the much smaller DO ones. A flash and the HBC had appeared far ahead of the fleeing craft. Its huge bay doors yawning open. A plague of small craft swarmed fourth in a cloud of erratic movements. Their load was a deadly one. Pilots sat in rows safely aboard the carrier, each commanding a squad of 5 death machines.
Now the DO ships headed directly towards destruction, chased there by the very same. The commander's tactical view of it all from the 3D holo projection before him caused him a guilty pleasure. He saw their plan falling into place perfectly and the destruction of the pitiful opposition as they fled. It was sick, to know his feelings and their motivation. To take pleasure in the execution- for that's what it was turning out to be- of the weak for deeds not their own. Nonetheless, most all Kazecis began to feel some sort of power-high, almost giddy with their task.
ooc: I was thinking at least one gets away- to tell the others.

((Tricky, tricky... using a special in-system jump drive to capture the ships in a pincer move.))
The hammer came down hard. Caught between the capital ships, it wasn't long before the DO patrol was space dust.
A wave of drone fighters bore down on the six corvettes, ripping them to pieces, while taking light casulties.
A half dozen ion beams carved one of the frigates into confetti. The other frigate was hit by a barrage of plasma torpedos and exploded in a metalic mess, the fires burned out as they were exposed to vacum.
All that was left was a debri field.
((The tragedy will be found at some point by a search party, when the patrol fails to report in.))

ooc: It's standard procedure to claim all wreckage, but in enemy territory it would be best to get the heck out before being caught.
In system quick jumps are effective, but limited in number due to power costs. That's why it didn't jump close, its shields and weapons had had their power diverted to jumping.
Ic: Slowly the fighters returned to their bays. Once fully loaded up, they made a jump to safe space then on to home. In a few days the next raid was scheduled to take place. Until then, Kazecistan prepared.

Several hours later a cloaked corvette entered the system, with only the brief flash of its entry into the system to show it was there at all. It toured the system, looking for the lost patrol. Eventually it found the remains.
About a day after it had left the system, a small fleet jumped in to salvage and hunt for signs of the aggressor nation. Unfortunately many planet-nations they have encountered used similar weaponry to the ones used to destroy this patrol, so there was no solid evidence toward a specific planet-nation. The incident was written off as a pirate attack by unknown assailants, but patrols were pulled back to crucial systems, and formed into pirate killing fleets.

11-12-2005, 19:46
With the changes in patrol routs, Kazecistan no longer possessed accurate data as to the whereabouts of enemy ships. Thus, the next attack was a blind one.
4 ships entered the area, expecting some sort of convoy, but they could not be sure after the changes. 1 HBC, 1 SC, and 2 TSs they numbered, and it was time for more battle. They scanned the system, taking precautions to not be noticed- tiptoeing through enemy territory.

((I'm going to presume this is another system then the one you just attacked.))
A mining convoy was moving away from an asteroid field as a Kazecistan fleet jumped into the system. A single frigate and several wings of fighter craft were the only escorts. The convoy went on full burn as it headed toward out-system, since it was close to out-system already, it would only be a few minutes before they could escape.

ooc: Yes, sorry for not being clear.
Ic: "They're running, sir!"
"Jump us ahead, offer a deal to the freighters."
As the 4 Kazeci ships jumped, only the carrier appeared behind the target fleet. The SC and two TSs jumped to a safe distance ahead of them, powering up weapons and targeting the frigate.
Freight vessels: We are prepared to spare you and your lives should you surrender to us now.
Draconic Order
11-12-2005, 20:37
All the ships powered down their engines, shutting down the entire convoy. The lead freighter sent a reply.
<Udos comply.>
The fighters and the frigate were also stopped and their weapons were powered down.

11-12-2005, 21:21
ooc: You needn't lose them all...
I plan to take all but one of the freighters.
Ic: As the Kazeci ships closed, they pushed the convoy into close quarters, surrounding it with warships and a cloud of several thousand fighters. Without warning, each of the Kazeci ships fired upon the frigate simultaneously. They had a point to prove. With its destruction, they sent another transmission to the freighters. Power down shields and open all landing bays. Prepare to be boarded. Any resistance or outgoing transmissions will be met with deadly force.

12-12-2005, 05:38
The freighters complied silently as the debri cloud settled. The fighters were also not making any moves to offend the Kazecistan ships.

Armed personnel began to beam over and arrived in transports as well. They all entered just one of the freighters. As Katie stepped off of her transport, she moved forward with swift steps. Gracefully, she disengaged the two halves of her staff from each other, snapping each of them back behind her arms- which she spread out 45* form her body- so that they crossed just behind her neck. A threatening pose. She confronted one of the DO personnel in her path. "So long as you comply, we shall send your crews home alive. Now, call the ship's crew to an assembly in this area. I want them all down here within ten minutes." More guards filed out and formed up.

She encountered a single individual walking along the corridors. It was a large creature, assumably a crewmember of this alien race. Due to the low lighting of the ship, all she could make out was the outline of the creature's back. After she had made her speech it turned to her.
One of the corridor lights, a mere miners light, highlighted a double row of pointed and jagged teeth. As it moved closer, into the light, she saw a feral pair of eyes staring back at her, hunter's eyes. Thick saliva dripped from its partially open mouth and fizzled as it hit the bulkhead. It was standing at 2.5 meters tall and broad shouldered, rippling with muscle and sinew. Claws pointed out of its fingers and wrist. A monster geneticized to kill.
A static roar came from deeper in the ship. One of the Kazecistan guards was shining a light along the ceiling of the small hanger bay when he yelled to his comrads. A dozen of these strange draconian creatures were clammering across the ceiling.
The creature in front of Katie charged her as the others began dropping from the ceiling onto the Kazecistan soldiers.

ooc: First, damn you for fighting where I am at a disadvantage. And second, Katie is a famous warrior, so be prepared to let her live.
Ic: Before she could even utter the word, "shit", her combat instinct took hold of her. A quick spin into a crouch and she had brought her staff in front of her. Twice she struck at it, both devastating blows to a human. Flattening herself further, she was able to duck the incoming fire from behind. Several blows from mini EWCs in the staffs of the soldiers behind beat the thing back.
While a good few of the soldiers behind her were caught off guard and slaughtered, the numbers of Kazecis allowed them to shoot the awful beasts with a hail of bluish energy. Sadly, the confusion caused for a cross fire resulting in the deaths of 12 more Kazecis. Once the bay was 'clear' of these things, at least the live ones, it became a battle to hold the entrances- those who had moved into the corridors having either been killed as most who did so were, or saved as Katie was.
A message went back to the fleet. We're under attack by- things- horrid beasts.
This time the response was the destruction of the fighters and crippling of one of the freighters. Call off your attacks on our troops or you shall all be killed! Send your crew to the landing bays.

As the fighters were destroyed, they plumed in massive fireballs. It seemed as if they were filled with bombs, not people. The explosions caught all the drone fighters in a hellstorm as the shockwaves battered at the capital ship shields.
* * *
The fighting inside the freighter intensified as the creatures began pouring out of every corridor and hatchway that was big enough to let their massive bulks through. Dozens fell to Kazecistan arms as they came in a great wave into the cargo bay/hanger.
* * *
To make matters worse, a surge in the warp formed as a warfleet made the jump into the system.
Fleet signatures began pouring through Kazecistan sensors:
Jhank Class Battleship x1
Okarthel Class Carriers x2
Valeij Class Cruisers x2
Caex Class Frigate: Mk1 x9
Caex Class Frigate: Mk2 x6
Sensors flared one last time as reports came that several subspace inhibitors had come online, spread across the system, hiding on moons and in asteroid fields. FTL was impossible now to both sides.

Draconic Order laid a trap, now it was up to fate as to who would survive.

The fighters were indeed rocked with the blasts. Several hundred of the small drones were lost. The remaining three freighters were fired upon as the fleet moved back to regroup, tractoring and dragging the last freighter with them after firing on its engines. They lashed out at any new ships that came into range with all their might.

Katie and her team were pushed back, their outer ranks being decimated and remaining numbers cramming into transports. They also began attempts to beam out.

((Change frigate, to freighter, in that last post. You destroyed the only frigate guarding them in the begining.))
The newly emerged warfleet had held back. The carriers and two of the cruisers had formed up on the battleship, energy beams connecting the five ships together within moments. The other ships had formed up around the five, waiting for the battleship's siege cannon to be ready.

Inside of the frieghter rocked with explosions as outside the other frieghters were systematically destroyed. Screams of combat filled the bay as the Kazecistan troops retreated into their shuttles.

More were killed. Too many more. The gruesome sight of mutilated death was not one that most of the Kazecis had experienced. Those weakest of mind fell first, having lost the ability to move. Shrill shrieks of pain filled Katie's ears as the door closed. She shuttered and hoped for a quick end to her men's suffering. The shuttle lifted off and began to turn back towards the fleet. Only one other shuttle accompanied them.
Command Bridge
"Sir, large power build up detected between the enemy ships! A weapon!"
"Scatter the fleet! Evasive maneuvers and charge! Let's get in close."
Space
And so they did. The ships of the small fleet spread enough so that they wouldn't all be killed in one shot from the weapon. They also made a dash for the grouping, full speed. In addition to their other weapons, they would use their EWC cannons to shove the enemy ships, attempting to break the connections they had. Ion cannons were used in threes on the frigates while SPPTs fired at anything in range.
Draconic Order
14-12-2005, 01:50
EWC cannons shoved the fighter screen to the sides as the Kazecistan fleet charged into weapons range.
Both sides began exchanging long-ranged fire as the Kazecistan vessels closed. Ion and particle beams smashing into the forward fleet elements. The frigates formed into squadrons of two to three ships and moved to engaged at closer range. As they moved into range, the lead squadron was raked by heavy fire, small infernos danced across the hull.
Because they were distant to start with, the Kazecistan fleet barely began to hit the five until after the battleship discharged its primary weapon at the Kazecistan SC. The SC was rammed by an intense particle stream, engulfing the ship.
After a few moments, some EWC fire was concentrated enough to break a cruiser from the formation. As the cruiser was battered away the connection stretched and snapped. The battleship's main blast dwindled and cut off, having only lasted a dozen or more seconds. The rest of the five disengaged and began targeting priority targets.
Kazecistan
14-12-2005, 02:48
The SC was now a charred husk, most of its systems offline. The twin frigates had taken light damage, to this point, and the carrier was holding under its battering for now, but it could not hold out forever.
The carrier now took command of the fleet, remaining fairly stationary in the middle of the fighting while the frigates made repeated passes on their targets using their improved firing rate to inflict more hits from their few, but powerful, weapons. Heavy ion cannons discharged at the weakest of the frigates, as did SPPTs and EWCs. The hail of Zat fire was a constant drain upon the enemy. As fighters that were still functional made runs at the least defended of the vessels, they released missiles, torpedoes, and plasma torpedoes.
Draconic Order
15-12-2005, 06:18
Outnumbered and outgunned, the Kazecistan vessels fought to the last. Lazers and zats, particle and ion beams, missiles and torpedos found targets among the opposing fleets. The remaining drones, mostly heavy, were hard pressed to maneuver around the DO interceptor screen and only managed to take pot shots with their torpedos at the least defended frigates. A fullsade from the two Kazecistan heavy torpedo frigates gutted a Mk2 frigate squadron as they tried to turn for another pass at the carrier.
The battleship and cruisers concentrated their fire on the Kazecistan carrier, leaving the heavy frigates to their frigates, fighters, and carrier. With the siege cannon offline due to lack of power, and its damage done, the battleship had to rely on its many lazer batteries and torpedos to cause any significant damage. The cruisers and their particle beams were the main threat to the Kazecistan carrier, as they would cause much more concentrated damage in small bursts then a wave of torpedos.

15-12-2005, 22:22
Anger can blind a person, particularly a Kazeci. They had no means of escape and no means of survive. Yet, they beat upon their foes as a school yard bully would beat upon the kid who had no money to offer. Their circumstances warranted sorrow and despair but their anger blinded them to all but the hate before them.
The carrier shuttered as its engine scaffold was ripped from its hull with a violent force. Several more hits and its shielding was down completely. The hull held as it was impacted once, twice- how long did they have? One of the frigates exploded, crippling its already heavily damaged counterpart. Finally, with all weapons dealing their final blow, the carrier, too, exploded. Its shockwave was much the same as the one given off by the SC in another system far off and destroyed what was left of the other Kazeci ships.
Katie and her men looked on in horror. She shuttered as she spoke. "All of them." No more was said aboard the small cloaked craft. It had been able to engage its cloak while there were still masses of fighters to hide among and had since moved a fair distance from the battle. As none but the highest officials in Kazecistan knew that Kazecistan possessed cloaking technology, it was doubtful that DO would look for it after this battle. Either way, they felt it best to move out of the system at half speed and wait until it was safe to jump.
Draconic Order
16-12-2005, 00:34
Another frigate squadron and a cruiser was crippled before the remaining Kazecistan vessels were no more. The undamaged fighter wings were immediately sent to the task of a sweeping the wrekage to make sure that there were no escape pods around the hulks, while the remaining tried to dock, or were towed in for extensive repairs and rearming. No Kazecistan ships were detected, allowing the cloaked Kazecistan ship to slip towards the out-system.
About a half hour later the battered fleet began to disengage from the system. The subspace jamming field powered down, going offline. DO won a victory, but lost about half their number of escorts and the other half was badly damaged, weeks, maybe months in dock before this fleet would be combat ready again.

POLARIS)
Scarab = 3/4-1 Standard Fleets
Arachnid = 1/3 of a Standard Fleet
Dragon = Standard Heavy Gunboat
Striker/Zephyr = Standard Medium Gunboat
Manta = Standard Light Gunboat/Heavy Fighter
VELL-OS)
Javelin = 1/3 of a Standard Fleet
Arrow = Standard Heavy Gunboat
Dart = Standard Medium Fighter

One Scarab (Nil'Sheru)

Two Arachnids (Nil'Yarash and Nil'Kapla)
Two Arrows (The Inquisitor and Dove's Iron)
Alternately, if DO would be willing, I could put pressure on another system. IE: While the main battlegroup attacks one side, a Polaris task force (listed above) assaults the DO's flanks in another system - thus straining DO's forces.
Or, perhaps, this Task Force could engage the main fleet while a smaller one (Perhaps led by one Arachnid a Dragon or two and a few Strikers/Manta escorts) could attack another system.
Also, make not of this, the Polaris Castes will not be seeking territory at the end of this war. We're just pissed off you attacked someone during a peaceful talk, which is a major attrocity on our eyes (it's how the Shard Wars, a century-long Polaris Civil War, started). So remember that. Several small shuttles began moving out of the gravity well of the frozen planet, trying to escape towards the safety of the miner colony. There were only basic escort wings, one to each shuttle. There was maybe a couple dozen space-superiority fighter craft kept in reserve at the miner base, for pirate deterent.

The force of attackers moved forward with maximum speed. Once in range, any and all targets were fired upon. Only a few shots from the massive ships and the transports and fighters should be wiped from existence. They charged onward toward the mining colony in full battle alert and offensive formation. Drones began to pour out of the massive bays in thousands- fighter, bomber, and gunship alike made to defend the fleet until its arrival at the target.

The shuttles and escorts were chased down and destroyed as they tried to escape the naval might of Kazecistan. Blossoming in the ether for brief moments before being eaten by the cold void. Around fifty lives were cut short in an instant, silenced by Kazecistan warships.
The mining colony awaited its fate.

The massive warships, in full glory of Kazeci military might, continued their march toward the mining colony, unimpeded by what remained of the fleeing shuttles. Each second brought the ship's capacitors to hold more energy, the reservoir from which Kazeci weapons gained their power.

As the warships approached, small planetary lazer and missile batteries came online. They were used to ward of pirates and raiders, supplementing the small interceptor garrison. But against a full, battle ready fleet, it was just a stall tactic. They had sent a message when they detected the foreign fleet, but help might not come for hours. Already resources were stretched trying to fight multiple incursions by foreign vessels or launching strikes into foreign space, not to mention the recent increase in pirate activity.

Missiles, with the exception of a rare few, were intercepted and detonated at a safe distance. The lasers, if all directed at a single frigate, stood a fair chance of downing its shields and even causing damage to the hull. Any fighters deployed would be swarmed by the massed of Kazeci drones and massacred within seconds. The Kazeci force entered orbit above the planet, using only their HLICs as other weapons wound not penetrate the atmosphere. Once major weapons installations were destroyed the many drones would swarm upon the planet with GASs at their side, obliterating all traces of DO life upon the world. Most of the faster fighters were equipped with channels on their wings which made a loud screaming noise at high speed- an adaptation for striking fear into the targets below.

The colony shield held against the bombardment. For how long, no one could predict. No weapon systems were inside the shield, as that would nullify their effects. The fighters were being preped for launch, they would help escort the evacuation before the shield failed.
A Kazecistan drone impacted on the shield before the swarm veered away from their attack run. They held orbit with the fleet, awaiting the shield's demise.

A third of the fleet and its fighters broke off to blockade the planet. They spread so that there were no gaps in weapons range through which one could escape, forming a 3 dimensional 'box' which could not be escaped without being fired upon. Bombardment continued and the shield could be attacked by other weapons as it wasn't protected by the same atmosphere as the surface was. SPPTs were used to rain horribly inaccurate fire upon the world through the shield, as was their design to penetrate shielding.

The shield flickered and wavered under the constant orbital bombardment. It held for awhile, but holes, weakenings in the energy grid allowed penetrator missiles in. The complex went to the torch, burning within the thin atmosphere generated within the shield. One such explosion set the deathnell, blasting through the generators that held the fleet at bay.
The shield collapsed...

08-01-2006, 05:11
At which point the firing intensified. The fighters stayed back and out of the way as the larger ships bombarded the surface indiscriminately with their large weapons. The thin atmosphere allowed for the use of missiles and torpedoes that left white streaks in the sky as they screeched for the surface. The moon was pummeled from all directions with all sorts of fire. A sudden end to this hellish reign came with a moment of relative calm.
Any survivors (likely as the fire had not been targeted on specific things other than weapons installations) would have but a moment to think of salvation before the fighters descended upon the planet. IN addition to the thousands of aircraft, GASs* and HWACs* plagued the surface.
ooc: *I believe GASs are in my fact book, but I don't think I transferred HWAC info. Hover Wing Attack Craft are single wings (15ft long) with turrets mounted on them. Generally they hover 1 meter above the ground and use their turrets (either duel heavy plasma or twin rapid Zat) to mow down the opposition, occasionally even using their wing to run down and sever people on open fields.

((Sounds interesting... 1,000th post!))
An hour later the base lay in ruins, cut down by the fury of the Kazecistan, no survivors. Months of bloody conflict with the Draconic Order had made this slaughter a first, in a hopeful line of victories. The grand fleet assembled high above the burned out surface was the spear that would pierce deep into Dominion territory and show that the Order didn't have galactic superiority over the men and women of Kazecistan.
The victory was short lived. Long range sensors detected multiple jumps into the system... The DO fleet had arrived.
* * *
A ship estimate was transmitted to DO command before the attack began. Faced with a enemy of that size and strength, ships were called in from all over the sector. The fleet that assembled would be large enough to stand against the coming tide, but patrols were stretched to their limit now. If this next battle was a loss, there would be little left to defend.
A leader of the First House, Admiral Sabrar, would be put in charge of the battlegroup. The ships that were pulled were integrated with his fleet and he was given the order to move out. He stood aboard the bridge of the ‘Ethereal Cress’, a Jhank Class Battleship as he surveyed the fleet forming up around him. He was one of four battleships, two from his own house, and one each from the other two houses. He also had five carriers, seven cruisers, and thirty-two frigates.
A total of fourty-eight ships descended on the system, it would be about twenty minutes before they met the ships of the Kazecistan.

The Kazeci ships turned from the burning rock as a beast disturbed while eating. For some time the ship's weapons had been inactive, and they would have even more time to build up their energy stores before the next time they would be used. They formed up for maximum effectiveness during the initial bursts of combat. Each of the assault groups separately- one with all fighters docked and the other with all fighters held back, but out. Even if their plan worked, however, they would need more ships if the battle was to be more than a gruesome and evenly matched battle. More preparations were made to be able to handle the energy flow.

The DO fleet was assembled in the system, arriving through multiple jump windows. The frigates deployed ahead of the larger fleet elements, dividing into groups of two to four ships. The Kazecistan knew what would happen next, as the four battleships linked with their support craft. This time however, one of the battleships linked with the other three battleships and a cruiser. The energy signatures generated by all the battleships linked to each other was off the scales. The honeycomb of capital ships slowly moved forward, swarms of fightercraft deployed between the frigate line and this core, the fleet would come at Kazecistan, divided into three waves.

ooc: DO, If you get tired of spelling out Kazecistan all the time, it's fine to say 'Kazeci' (and grammatically correct, too)
Ic: But the Kazecis had other plans. This would not be a defensive battle, at least not if they had their way. The last of the fighters were recalled and the positions of the fleet switched to offence. Timing was of utmost importance if they were to succeed.
31 near simultaneous flashes of light gratified their efforts. Seconds later 31 more brought them back into combat. With only the brief warning of the power build up, the DO fleet was under attack. 15 TSs, 10 SCs, 5 HBCs, and one K.N.S. KishNa were upon them. The flag ship of each fleet was traditionally part of one of its assault groups and these two assault groups being from OF-1 had the flag ship of the entire Kazeci space navy with them. She sprung upon them from behind with her HLICs, followed by a chorus of other HLICs from the rest of the group. The other group stabbed at the belly of the DO forces, having appeared below them and within range.
ooc: They were able to jump and fire right away due to the energy bypasses and capacitors they've been retrofitting and charging for several hours. It will be about a minute before their fire rate is reduced to normal as well due to the energy stores they have built up.

((In-system jumps of a dozen kilometers is an iffy concept. I don't do it because I see it as a god mode tactic... but since you had about an hour to prepare a simulation of where the DO fleet would be, I'll allow it.))
The sudden change in tactics, in-system jumps of such short distances, threw the DO fleet into disarray. Having appeared in both the back and bottom quadrants of the main capital ship force, the Kazecistan were in a perfect position to wreak havok.
As the fleet tried to turn, it was bombarded by dozens of ion beams. The outer hull of a cruiser was disintigrated as five beams bore through the substructure. A cloud of gases and the charred bodies of crew members swam through the debri. The honeycomb had to break up as each ship needed increased maneuverability.
The frigate and strikecraft force turned much quicker and as the first salvo of the Kazeci took a large toll on the capital ships. They began to make their first attack runs, spliting into two main forces to attack both groups simultaneously.

ooc: Yes, it is an iffy thing. Normally I only in system jump long distances, to a safe place, or to escape. As an attack, it took much work to plan and prepare. You'll see some power feed back issues later from these modifications.
Ic: The Kazeci fleets were in formation for maximum damage effect- a formation which was not conducive to defense. They quickly began to Make their next move- the last that was planned. They rushed into the heart of the DO fleet, dispersing evenly among the disarrayed enemy. As their other weapons came into range they too opened up. The framilure hail of purple Zat fire was accompanied by red SPPTs lashing at the hulls of nearby frigates. When a ship ended up between two of the Kazeci vessels it was pounded back and fourth by EWC waves as well. Their MPSs came into effect after the last of their components left their holds. The battle was in full swing.
This, of course, meant casualties on both sides. Kazeci shields began to take hits from frigates and strike craft in a flood, as their numbers were nearly equal. Their robust construction warded off major damage for now.

The chaos of the fleet to fleet battle was intense at best. A fleet action like this came once in a galactic war and would tip the scales in favor of the victor.
The cohesion of both fleets were scattered around the system, each ship captain having to make a choice as to the manner in which they faught. Sometimes allied ships paired up to take on a more resiliant enemy, just to split up again as they were done or forced to disengage. Fightercraft from both sides dodged and weaved through the mass of capital ships, either hunting each other, or helping to cause a little more damage to or distract a more powerful vessel.
Lazers and zats pounded shields, missiles and torpedos shattered hulls, particle beams and ion cannons tore through the rest.
Kazecistan
11-01-2006, 05:13
The Kazecis did have a slight degree more cohesion, however. They fought in threes and their drones in wings of five and packs of several wings. This gave them a bit of an edge, but also forced DO's vessels into similar groups. They worked to separate out individual ships- usually the weakest in the area- and pound them from multiple directions until they were incapacitated (engines and weapons) or they were forced to break off. They stayed in the thick of the fight, but focused on only a few targets at a time while holding the main of the other foes at distance with their massive EWC waves.
Plasma rained upon the larger DO ships as bombers strafed while dodging the much more powerful fire of the capitol vessels. Their tiny spheroids of plasma were nothing compared to the SPPTs' plasma which could engulf several of them. Other drones fought to dominate the fighters of the enemy, but were in many cases destroyed themselves. The major players in the small craft wars were the multi gun corvettes. With two turreted lancer cannons and 6 turreted Zats, they could 'clear' an area of small craft quickly.
Casualties mounted on both sides about equally, as the Kazecis had lost their advantage and were now left with only their skill in close quarters combat- something which they specialized but provided little tactical advantage.

"Helm, hard to port. Set on course 1-3-7-mark-4-3. Battery control, starboard broadside... fire."
The cruiser 'Dragon's Tooth' lurched to the side as a Kazeci frigate slided right by. The cruiser raked the badly damaged torpedo frigate with laser fire before it erupted into plasma. The bridge was a low muffled glee at the end to another enemy ship. But the moment left when nearby a Draconic frigate shattered down the middle as an ion beam cut it in half. The shields of the cruiser deflected the resulting impacts of bulkheads and splattered humanoids.
"Torpedo room report."
The captain called out to the air, as most ship's personel could hear him due to the communications devices on the ship.
"Tubes three and four are jammed, all other tubes are loaded. Auto-loaders not operational."
"Helm, change course..."
As he was starting to give the orders, a wave of missiles smashed into the shields, throwing people around. The captain was thrown prone, but his commands came through.
"4-4-6-mark-8-7. I want us out of the line of fire. Give me damage report on the double."

A hard thrust to the side and the Kazeci SC was able to keep its relative position. This didn't mean much however, as the formation's other 2 vessels were not able to make the much larger turn arcs in time to save the move. Backing off, they tried again. From behind they surrounded the cruiser. The EWCs started in, pounding once, twice, thrice- each of the ships started off by physically beating upon the target ship, sitting in the middle. The next move was to let loose with every thing, but the HLICs weren't fully charged. As Zats splashed on the target's shields, SPPTs lashed out, penetrating the shielding and exploding directly on hull plating (generally near visible systems or weak points). Unfortunately, the normally long term bombardment was cut short, another DO cruiser was barring down and its fire forced the formation to break.

The Athear Class Interceptors of Blue Wing sped around the two fleets; their hulls glittering from the light of the nearby star. A handful of enemy drones were picking away at the fleeing Green squadrons.
Inside his cockpit, Lt. Joe Billings wiped the sweat from his brow, once again squinting into the void. The cloud of fighters between the waring capital ships was easy to see. His hand tightened on the steering yoke as he awaited computer lock on.

"Keep it moving! Damn it John, do you want to be plucked from open space? Get those engines going!" One of the multi gun drone pilots shouted down the hall of the carrier. His words made little difference; however, as the drone whose pilot he addressed was hit with a fatal blow. "I told you to keep it moving! Ya' can't just sit there, even if the computer is operating your turrets." The rest of the pilots seemed to get the hint and keep their pattern erratic. It seemed to be prime for a slaughter, as the MGDs were designed for taking out multiple strike craft.
Kazeci drone numbers (other than the MGDs) began to drop sharply as they returned in mass for more missiles. At this time they also became very vulnerable, having few missiles and fixed energy weapons. A small slaughter incurred as they fled to safety at full speed.

"Brace for impact!"
The two frigate squadron was hit by a torpedo volley as it closed in on one of the Kazecistan carriers. Sparks flew across the bridge as the draconians held on as the ship groaned around them, shaking as the explosions scraped off pieces of the hull.
They careened towards the carrier, debri bouncing off what little they had in shielding. As they neared weapon's range, an ion beam caught the lead ship in the nose. As the vessel's bow was melted down, the sister ship surged forward.
Using the small window in the defences, the frigate opened up with its own particle beam cannon. The beam pierced the weakened shields and dug into the hull of the Kazecistan vessel.
The frigate lurched as its engines were hit by some returning drones. The wounded frigate lost navigation and followed the particle beam, smashing headfirst into the hole created by its weapon.
There was an explosion moments later.

Ic: Jason stood over a table with a holo display of the battle on it, indicating 4 other TSs. "I want this one, that one, and those two formed up with us now."
"Sir, you don't have that authority-" He was right, one captain had no authority to dictate other ship's movements, but Jason had a tactical mind and a little bit of greed for power.
"Damn it! Do you want to win this battle or not? Get hold of their captains and have them form up with us!"
A few moments later the five frigates were formed up in a claw and began their run. Charging for a relatively isolated, medium sized ship at full speed, they unleashed their HLICs, one each. As they came closer, they each fired both SPPTs, strafing over the vessel and pulling out at the last second.
Just after its run, Jason's ship burst into flames as a large clabber enemy weapon cut into its already damaged midsection. The battle field was thick with debris, more so than with ships. The majority of the field lay where the DO fleet had once lay in formation, now the fighting was scattered around it in an ever expanding ring which was thinning in ranks by the second. Occasionally, a ship's reactor would overload, causing a massive shockwave to disturb the debris, but it was nearly silent in the densest part of the field. Several fighters lay scattered about, short on fuel and without a carrier to return to. Most of the fighting was over, most of the lives lost. The raging fire that the battle had once been was now smoldering out.

The cruiser 'Dragon's Tooth' was holding its course on the edge of the battlefield, currently engaged with a fleeing Kazeci ship. The carrier was taking the brunt of the fight, as its main weapon batteries were destroyed in a bombing run by the now scattered bomber wing. The cruiser was also scored by laser fire, having taken a couple beam hits before the cruiser got the upper hand. It's own laser fire blasting into the weakening shield system of the Kazecistan vessel.
Another explosion filled the void. The cruiser was torn apart as torpedoes ripped through its substructure, penetrating deep into its core. There was no time to evacuate as the whole ship was engulfed for a brief moment in superheated plasma.
The galactic east of the DO's line was broken. Admiral Sabrar of the ‘Ethereal Cress’ gave the word for a general withdrawl, this battle was a loss for both sides. The individual ships, scattered about the wreckage, began to move away from their engagements, whatever fighters were left were recalled to the nearest hangers.

Kazeci ships made no effort to follow, simply held position and watched. It was a sad day. Thousands were now dead, the battle having been a narrow and costly 'victory'. Moods were low.
Half an hour after the DO forces left, the Kazeci 'clean-up crew' arrived. Slowly sifting through the wreckage for survivors, they found few. It was then that collection began, Kazecistan had to gain something form this. The four salvage destroyers lined up in a row and their small retrieval drones flooded out by the thousands. Slowly advancing, the destroyers acted as bases for the salvage teams, taking in the massive and the miniscule, sending it all back to Kazeci processing facilities through hyperspace windows within their bays. The flow didn't seem to have an end, there was so much wreckage to be transported. Those remaining Kazeci ships which didn't retreat for immediate repairs remained to tractor and beam the wreckage, helping with the efforts a great deal. The process took hours. Anything too big to fit into the bays was either broken into smaller pieces with explosives or gathered into a dense cluster with tractor beams. When nothing else remained, the Kazeci ships formed up around these hulks and jumped back to the nearest processing station with them. The system was now quiet, no evidence of the battle remained other than a few fading energy signatures.
"Damn that was a lot of wreckage! What did you they do, stand down and let themselves be carved up by your six ships?" The scrap field manager asked over the comm.
A very angry captain responded, "If you hadn't been spending these last few hours gloating over your new inventory, you might have noticed that a good portion of it is Kazeci!"
"I, uh, I'm sorry-"
"Damn it! You're sorry? We lost some good crews out there! I lost my best friend out there!"
Quickly changing the subject he responded. "Please unload all personnel onto the station and turn over your ship's helm to our nav computer."
"Now you're going to scrap my ship too! What are we to you? Nothing? Just more scrap for your quota?"
He would have kept going if his first officer had not stopped him. He touched the commander on the shoulder, whispering, "Would Jason want this?"
The damaged vessels were retired, their mass adding to the field of debris which was slowly being gnawed away at by the sorting facility at its end. The process would take several months to break it all into its base elements and package it for shipment to far off production yards.

Admiral Sabrar stood with a heavy heart upon the damaged bridge of his flagship. Wires were sparking off to the side as an engineer was lying beneath a control panel with a myriad of tools lying around him. Some damaged bulkhead that fell from the ceiling was being lifted by a hover unit in pieces, cut up by a pair of welders. His second, Mr. Odola, walked over to him, a data pad held under his arm. Sabrar didn't turn to greet him.
"Report."
Odola handed him the data pad, pulled from under his arm. He surveyed the damage to the bridge before speaking.
"We have compiled a list of vessels lost and the names of the crew..."
Odola sighed.
"Our total comes to thirty-three ships, well more then half our original fleet strengt-"
The admiral put up a hand and silenced the speech.
"Seven thousand."
The bridge was silent for a minute.
"Seven thousand citizens whose mothers will grieve. Who will receive news that their sons or daughters will not return to them, return to their homes. Wives or husbands who will go without a full bed. Whose children will grow up without a parent. That is the legacy we left for our future."
The admiral placed the pad down, his eyes facing the view screen. The ‘Ethereal Cress’ was docked at one of three shipyards in the system. The battered hulls of the other vessels of the fleet were floating around the three docks, waiting their turn as they tried to repair themselves.

The war with Kazecistan lasted for one galactic year. Learning that the Kazecistan had a fleets of ships at their disposal that could stand up to the might of their own fleets, and the devastation of the last major engagement, the Council of Twelve decided that the war had to end. House Ordus was the strongest voice against the proposed peace. They protested that they had lost too much in the war with Kazecistan and that they had claimed an honor feud against their aggressors. House Kharaan was the first to point out that the Third House was the one that started the war in the beginning, that they should be silent so as not to bring greater dishonor to their doorstep. When House Cormyr sided with the Second House, the matter was dropped... though House Ordus stormed out at the end of the session.
A House Kharaan frigate was dispatched with the message of cessation of hostilities, a message of peace.

The Kazecis had a very open boarder policy, one that most likely stemmed from their arrogance. Any vessel from any nation may enter at any time, including those of foes, so long as it is not a fleet of battle equipped vessels being admitted and it be accompanied by a greater force of Kazeci military vessels, if its origin be hostile. A very unusual open boarder policy indeed.
Thus, the frigate was admitted into Kazeci territory.
A transmission was sent from the nearest boarder station the moment they approached Kazeci territory. The two frigates followed it shortly there after. You are to proceed to regional command. Coordinates are enclosed. You will be escorted by the two approaching frigates. Deviating from course without permission will result in your detainment. Resisting the escort will result in your destruction. Have a nice visit and be wise.
Upon arrival at the regional command station, they were greeted by dozens of Kazeci war vessels and hundreds of others bustling about. Nothing changed when they arrived, it was as though they hadn't- three frigates didn't mean much among the many cruisers and massive cargo transports. Another transmission was sent from the station.
Welcome to regional command. You and your crew are in no danger here, so long as you follow the instructions. You will be allowed to go in peace once our business is concluded. Please dock with one of the docking stations, our larger facilities are required for other tasks. Follow your escort.
The escort moved towards a cluster of small stations, four or five in all. each was just large enough to accommodate a few of the small Bullet Transports within and had a long docking arm which it attached to the ship, either to a port on the outside of the hull or into a bay through an air shield. There were many such clusters. One had to walk through the arm, preferably taking the moving walk that went their intended direction. They seemed to come alive as the ships drew near, moving to latch on.
Just shut down your engines and let them guide you to a holding point. Then please board a transport via the dock, they will take you to the station's reception. Welcome to Kazecistan.

Showing up was proof enough of their dedication to negotiation for the Kazecis. Their single frigate certainly wasn't a threat with the whole regional defense fleet so close. Most of the hoops they went through were simply for traffic control. The transport carried them swiftly to a massive bay on the station, picking a single landing floor then a single landing point out of thousands, all identical. This one, however, 460-A, was the one designated for them. It's somewhat frightening the first time one steps out onto what was pretty much a huge shelf, one side of which is separated from vacuum only by an air shield. One can see clearly out into the open space from which they just arrived.
"Welcome." A man in a pressed khaki uniform extended his hand. "I'm Commander Vincent Marrel; I'm in charge of this station. Please, come with me." He led them toward a door on the wall, then to a transport room. Seconds later, they found themselves in another identical room, half way across the station. A short walk and they arrived at a conference room; it had windows on three sides with direct views out to the busy traffic in the nearby space. A monitor passively displayed the nearby ships in real time.
"Please, be seated. Is there anything you would like before we begin?"

The delegation sat down around the table. One asked for water. The 'leader' of the delegation spoke up.
"We are here to negotiate a cessation of hostilities between our two governments."

The commander sat down, handing the man his water and holding a dark tinted drink for himself. "Figures. Well, you're in luck; our government wishes the same. Perhaps we could start with any conditions or concerns you might have?" He sipped at the drink and sat back, an honest look upon his face.

His eyebrows went up at that, but the supprise was nowhere to be seen in his voice. "Kazecistan has no terms for a ceas of agressions treaty either, but we want something more. We feel that old wounds heal best when cared for by he who inflicted them. We want close relations with your people: an alliance with trade. And that's not all, the Covenant (http://s13.invisionfree.com/Official_Covenant/index.php?act=idx) is seeking new members; you're invited to join us. All of these would be fair and unbiased relationships, of course."

"Closer trade relations is an acceptable term... But, joining this Covenant would have to be discussed."

The delegates sat back in their chairs.
"But, please... explain about this Covenant. It would be wise to bring as much information as possible back with us, so a more informed decision can be brought about."

Taking his cue from the others, the commander sat back as well. "The Covenant was founded on the principles of mutual furthering and advancment of its member's societies. Naturally, this includes increased trade and defence. As an alliance, we hold much more power than as individualls. The Covenant is built on an open environment of equals, each having a say in every matter. Most alliances have classes of members, those in a senate or in a high leadership position. While we have leadership positions, such deligation of power is nessessary for getting anything done, it is stressed that no member is better than any other or is worth more. Furthermore, all positions are elected and all may be impeached at any time. Such insures that the best intrests of the Covenant are in working at all times. It's really a quite plesent group to be a part of, unlike places such as the Republic or the massive and unfriendly alliances like the GE."

One of the other members spoke up quickly, interrupting.
"Although the Third House has been known to take similar measures."
The original speaker began again.
"As you can see, we have problems within our own star nation that we must deal with before joining any coalition of planets."

"The Covenant is a gathering of nations for a common goal. We're not always in agreaance, but we do not focus on our differences. My personal ideals differ from those of other member nations, but there is no conflict over such. The interaction of members is directed by the constitution, the document offers nothing to restrict the personal practices of nations, their ideology, or their relations with outside nations. It is a very free alliance. And although I don't want to pry into your personal affairs, membership may be able to smooth over some issues."

There are a few moments of silent reading before the delegates begin discussing among themselves. There are an equal number of head shaking in the yes and no directions. Finally the first speaker of the group speaks.
"There is concensus among us that this document is a valid constitution. However, we now require a list of communal laws, the laws that all in this Covenant must abide by."

A few quick touches to the holographic display in front of him (this one had more information and controls than those in front of the others), he brought up a list of all current laws.
"The list is short and has few obligations as of now. As the constatution states, there is the possibility for new laws to be enacted, but such need to pass as the intrests of the Covenant and its members. Procidure ensures that nothing ill-intented will pass while making for ease of passing the positive. Once you attain membership, you have full power to change and challenge law."

They glanced at the laws currently in effect for all members. One of them laughed but was silenced quickly by the other's looks. There was some more quick discussion.
"It intrigues us..."
He looked at the others, who nod their heads in agreement.
"But, we must decline for now. The system doesn't seem stable enough for us yet."

ooc: That's all that isn't in the constatution and has come up to vote.
"Not stable enough?" He was going to ask 'how so?', but thought better of it. "If that is your will. Please remember that the doors are open, however. What do you suggest in it's stead?"

One of the delegates pointed to his time piece on his arm, with an urgent tapping.
"We have agreed on cessation of hostilities and trade relations. We believe that, that is all that is needed for now. If your government wishes anything further, that is not based on this Covenant, at least for the moment, then please speak. We wish to be done as soon as possible, as we are on a schedule, and we don't want to head into another war when we fail to report back."
