Newborn republic faces invasion and counter-revolution (open for now)

(Darn, can't change the title. Note! This is at or approaching capacity and no longer fully open. Anyone interested should proceed to the OOC thread if they're still very much keen).

Rose Lefebvre, interim ambassador to the People's Republic of Pracowity (the first of two nations to thus far recognise the new state of Rojo Quisqueya replacing Haiti and the Dominican Republic), a Haitian-born woman of mixed race, was one of the few Quisqeyans able to contact the outside world.

She used this fact to appear before what journalists she could convince to pay her any attention, Rojo Quisqueya's new flag held up behind her by a pair of ambassadorial staff.

Lefebvre spoke briefly of the twin revolutions in poverty-striken Haiti and the corrupt Dominican Republic and the popular creation of a unified Hispaniola under the title Republica Rojo Quisqueya. She said, almost tearfully, that the people were celebrating across the countryside and in the streets, preparing to tear-down the slums and rebuild a new life characterised not by violence and sickness but dignity and progress.

"...and then, in the hour of our victory, explosions across the land, buildings destroyed and people killed. Initial reports suggested a parting shot in the form of bombs planted by the sore losers of the thieving classes and virtual dictators... but, I am now in a position to tell you, these reports were wrong. Quisqueya is in fact facing invasion.

"We do not even know who is attacking my countrymen at this time" she said, "only that a large fleet has reportedly been sighted, and that missiles, bombs, and gunfire rain down on the people, who, with no navy and no air force, have no way to fight back.

"The Quisqueyan Red Republic has few friends in the world... save those who breathe free air and are prepared to share it! Our nation is recognised by only one or two foreign governments, others still refusing to accept that the corrupt leaderships of Haiti and the Dominican Republic are gone. I beg you, on behalf of my people, the unified people of Hispaniola, whoever you are, call off your assault! The people do not wish it!

"To the international community of nations we say only this: we have tasted freedom, we have imagined equality and basic good health, and we want only to keep struggling towards these things, please, help us!"

Situation

The governments of Haiti and the Dominican Republic have fallen to the Quisqueyan Red Army (QER), with the former trapped on the Ile de la Gonave and the latter in hiding or on the run. The seventeen million residents of the Caribbean island of Hispaniola have, by and large, embraced a popular revolution that promises social change and relative prosperity.

Victory is only a matter of days old, and already the nation of Red Tide2 has launched a major amphibious invasion, crippling most of the island's communications, airfields, and so on. The QER has no aircraft, no warships, and very few military vehicles. They have no way of knowing exactly who is attacking them nor even why, and only assume that it is an attempt at counter-revolution designed to prop-up the Dominican and possibly Haitian governments.

This link (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=446702) is to the original thread in which the revolution was carried out and where the foreign invasion started, but I wanted to make a new thread if there was going to be a fresh war, so this is it!

As you see, RQ has not really made any friends, because the revolutionary government is only days old, and hasn't even caught all the old authorities as yet! We have a population based on the real one (around 17 million with Haiti and the DR combined) and an economy that isn't even big enough to produce the invasion force used by the enemy if we did nothing but military production. However, the revolution is popular, and has already many thousands of guerrilla fighters, and now is raising more volunteers because of the attack.

Because we haven't got any established allies or enemies, this is open for now, I just ask that nobody godmods or gets carried away, and try to rememeber that RQ is a relatively tiny nation with resources and facilities worth, basically, peanuts.

There's lots of maps available on line, but I'll provide a few links:

OOC: Well, RQ is entirely modern tech, though I'm not sure about RT2, which seems to have ETC weapons in use. I figured, since we're outnumbered and out-gunned anyway, it didn't matter so long as we didn't get hyper-nuked from the next dimension or something!

San Pedro de Marcorís, former Dominican Republic

Red Tidean hovercraft were spewing men ashore troops by the hundreds. An old man, the only person visible near by, stood open-mouthed with a length of rope in his leathery hands, hanging limp as he watched. Only one Quisqueyan had fired a shot against the invaders, and he had apparently failed to hit anything, but already millions of dollars worth of firepower had been expended against the island, ruining its airstrips -though the Quisqueyans didn't mind, having no air force- and smashing its communications. Scores were dead so far, but nobody knew the specifics.

The second company of soldiers ashore were just a few dozen yards inland when a second burst of fire came from between bayside warehouses a few hundred feet to the east near the right bank of the Higuamo River. This time it was from the Uirapuru Mekanika machinegun set up by QER volunteers. Another patter of 7.62x51mm fire as it shot again. Two men were operating the gun, set up on a crate with corrugated iron walls to either side.

The old man jumped and began to turn around, tangling himself in his rope and almost falling into the Caribbean Sea as bullets whistled past towards the Red Tidean infantry.

The third man involved in setting up the gun had vanished, prowling around to the inshore flank of the gunners' position with an old 7.62mm Model 2 Light Rifle from the San Cristobal Arsenal (one of the Caribbean's only domestic military weapons), hoping to cover his comrades from there.

The first man to take a shot at the passing hovercraft before they reached shore, armed with a H&K G3 rifle taken from the defeated national army, was now half a mile from the action and running so hard to get involved that he felt quite sick and tripped frequently as he went, waving one arm in the air and shouting for locals to spread the word of invasion and to get whatever weapons they may have and come out!

(OOC: This is in response to the last post that RedTide2 made on the revolution thread, where his forces were just coming ashore in the southeastern town mentioned in this post's title.)

OOC:For the record, ElectroThermal-Chemical(ETC) guns are quite common around MT tech Nations here. While the more powerful ElectroThermal(ET) guns, AKA: 'Railguns', are given the role of PMT and FT.

IC: As soon as the gun opened fire, the Red Tidean Soldiers hit the dirt and returned fire, the machine gunners(3 gunners per squad(a squad being 10 men)) layed down suppression fire with their M-200 Squad Machine Guns.

The Riflemen(6 riflemen per squad) flicked their laser sights ontop of their M-100 Assault Rifles and looked through them. Given the distance, they switched to semi-automatic mode and began to return fire with the same amount of accuracy a regular US Army soldier would.

The Government of Navassa has authorized the under-the-table proposal to send the QER support in the form of weaponry, as follows.

5 warheads equiped with VX nerve gas
2 modified F-22 stealth air superiority fighters, made to the intercepted specifications of the US
25 n459 fighting vehicles, the highly advanced version of the Bradley Fighting Vehicle made by the US

We also have 200 special forces soldiers, trained to the rigorous Navassan GST (Guerilla Special Tactics) standards, on hand to perform some needed services if requested. Just say the word, and the RT2 armies will be no more.

The Republic of Leninist Workers sends 400 fanatical, albeit poorly trained (but decent marksmen), armed guerrillas, 20 medical specialists, 50 specialised personnel, 4 t-80 armor, and 2 MiGs to aid the revolutionary forces.
Otherwise, we're poor, due to recent military spending and the attacks on the LW Marxist Government. We'll offer you twigs and rocks to provide cover. Or maybe a few counter-revolutionary capitalist felons to be used as meat shields.

UPDATE: Due to some of our...procedures in creating a genetically enhanced workforce to aid those less fortunate...It appears we've...Uhh...Got to quell...riots...

The aid will arrive in a few hours, but for now we have to burn some corpses, and, uh...dangerous sites...

However, we assure the nations of the world that we have not spent 20% of our budget playing with the human genome, only to have 3 provinces overrun by mutants and re-animated corpses.
We...Promise...

However, some of these sonambulist carcasses will be of use, that is, if they existed.

And, um, we won't be using these new enhancements on any of our soldiers.
And we're not being overrun.
The situation is under control. We think.

Expect the aid soon, as we care for the impoverished. We'll have some engineers come to help with public utility development. If any of our personnel smell like they're decomposing or seem to be feasting on what looks like brains, it's just your imagination. We haven't domesticated the undead. That is, if the undead existed, or mutants existed. Which they do not.

OOC: I'm posting with a puppet because I'm having trouble, but for the record I'm N Y C.

IC: The N Y C government was intrigued by the developments in the Caribbean Sea. This new, unified Hispanola had a lot of potential, potential their country wanted to reap the trade benifits of. Furthermore, N Y C's large spanish population showed solidarity with the cause.

At naval command at Naval Base Alpha, the large computer screen showing N Y C trade and military movements was the pride and joy of her armed forces' tacticians. They had been asked to redirect nearby forces to help. After quickly scanning the map, new orders were sent out.

Jorge Salviras surveyed the small force under his disposal: 7 multi-purpose Garnet-class battleships. They bobbed in the small harbor of St. John's, antigua and Barbuda, where they had been laying over en route to Brazil. Now they were being sent to the newly formed Republica Rojo Quisqueya to defend them against the overwhelming might of the Red Tidians. He sent a message to their new ally:

San Pedro de Marcorís

The Quisqueyan machinegunners gritted their teeth as they rattled off dozens of rounds from their Brazilian weapon's disintigrating link belt before a feed problem had one man stooped over and trying to rectify it while the other rose to his knees and started to shout at the gun, slapping it with his palm. Incoming fire prickled the crate on which the weapon was rested and carried on rising, eventually zipping across the gunner's chest and dropping him. The second man, apparently having fixed the problem, at least judging from his otherwise poorly timed cry of satisfaction, turned to see his comrade fall before, in a bluster of rage and terror, grabbing the machinegun, falling through the crate barricade with the weapon cradled in his arms, flipping out the bipod, and capping off all of two further rounds before he was hit twice and killed outright by enemy rifle fire.

The third man in their team, having moved with rifle to cover their inshore flank, hadn't proved terrible useful, and finally now plucked up the courage to... run away. He was fortunate in that the first shooter from down the coast was now arriving, G3 rifle blazing wildly with little chance of scaring off the Red Tideans as it did the seabirds half a mile around. He was soon floating face down in the harbour.

There was no more immediate resistance at the San Pedro de Marcorís seafront, though a small QER contingent was setting up a couple of light mortars in the town and rallying citizens to erect barricades on at least a few of the main streets.

Pracowity

Far away in the first state to recognise Rojo Quisqueya's revolutionary government, ambassador Rose Lefebvre tried to operate a makeshift absentee government of sorts. News simply wasn't getting in and out of the Republic like it ought to, since there was chaos. Communications were being bombed, and the rebels had only days ago entered the small town that they now called capital (Pedernales) and were not keen to sit around in what working offices they had, lest they too be bombed. They were working still essentially as a partisan army in the field and little more.

Lefebvre processed incoming messages of support as best she could, but was forced to reply that there was no clear strategic picture: foreign governments, especially those with access to satellite technology, almost certainly knew more than she did, and she was forced to admit this.

At first she was even hesitant to accept serious help, being concerned that she would authorise the landing of troops intent on restoring the old Hispaniolan governments rather than supporting the revolution. She didn't have access to a boss to clear her decisions.

She, eventually, decided to invite interested parties to send representatives to the Quisqueyan embassy in the People's Republic of Pracowity to exchange information and perhaps to create a plan of action.

The Red Tidean Soldiers ducked and rolled out of the way whenever the firing got too close. One man got hit in the arm by, strangely, the last round fired off. The man who got hit ignored the wound, he would be treated approximately 15 minutes later.

The second man appeared just in time for the AAPC-45s to come ashore. One of them sighted him through its powerful gunsights and the dual 30mm autoguns, designed for use against low-flying aircraft but equally lethal against infantry, swiveled and began to fire at him.

"I haven't heard much about Red Tides, but attacking a nation after it's been undergoing a revolution! They sound like pests to me. Send in the usual McMood, and keep me posted"

Immediately afterward a loud bang rang out as the warlord blew another clay pigeon to pieces.

-1200 "Alpha Force" special Forces (these have the ability to train native forces..hint...hint)
-20,000 M-12 "Battlefortress" main battletanks

OOC: Yeah, but... look, they will hardly fit on the island! It's the equivalent of sending twelve million people or something to fight a war in the UK in real life. Your soldiers' boots would probably be worth more than the Quisqueyan economy, and it would be a massive strain that your nation would want explaining. I do appreciate people wanting to help and get involved, but, everyone, get a sense of scale, here! This is -unless big powers come to clash with one another because they have pre-existing reason to do so and this is a convenient excuse- a small conflict, not World War II.

The V-A2 Guncraft streak through the sky, a squad of 10 screeching toward the small island nation. They find their target, a dock with forces attacking, when their missles shoot from their wings, their VTOL engines rocketing backwards, proppelling them away from the missles. They missles strike, causing some damage, but disrupting the enemy forces.

Suddenly, a man's head pops out from the ocean. He is wearing goggles, and soon about 20 more pop up. They raise their weapons, and fire toward the beach, killing a few rebellious guardsmen there. They move up the beach, strip while guarding each other, and the continue on, their current suits water free.

They are wearing urban camo, and have AR-22's. These weapons fire a bullet that is a tad bigger than the M-16's, and a hollow point. It explodes when inside the target, causing for maximum destruction of soft bodies. They also each carry a small charge that can be fired from their weapon, and it is used to disable vehicles.

They breach the door, and it blows inward. They do classic infiltration, and while the smoke clears, the rebels look bewilderd. They go through the door, and diagonally, aiming toward the room. They flip down their infrared, and let loose, killing the men inside. They continue to clear out the house.

They effectively do this, sustaining only one casualtie. A man has a bullet in his arm, but he will be alright by the next day. A VTOL lands outside, drops off 10 more men, and they rush inside.

That same VTOL carried the commander, a man named Russell Murdoc, the commander of the force here.

It was his job to establish communications with the non-rebelious faction here, and to help them in any way possible.

OOC:I am ignoring the part when you launched the missiles, because you SOMEHOW got past the powerful radars on my ships and stated what happened to my troops.

EDIT:Also, your post confuses me... who ARE you supporting?

EDIT2:And you stated RQs casualties, that is godmodding.

IC:VTOLs are incredibly easy to detect, they are incompatible with stealth technology and their vertical thrusters create massive InfraRed signatures. Therefore, about 200 miles out from where the beach was, two H/K-2 VTOL Interceptors broke off their patrol pattern over the carrier battlegroup and streaked towards the apporaching VTOL, simultaneously the VTOL recieved a message over its radio.

"Attention unidentified aircraft, you are approaching a temporarily restricted air space, divert your course immediatly. Faluire to comply within 20 seconds will result you being fired upon."

OOC:I am ignoring the attempt at shelling myu troops because you completely ignored the fact that my battlegroup was there.

Also, the amount of troops you have sent is redicously big. You will have to supply them via port as I have taken out all of their airports capable of supporting supply planes, they also probably will be armed with nothing more the machetes, given the insane amount of money you will have spent on those armored fighting vehicles.

IC:As the Battlecruisers reached 30 miles away from the Red Tidean Beachhead, a sqaudron(6 aircraft) of H/K-1 Surface Attack Aircraft lifted off from the carrier and flew towards them, each armed with 6 Long Range Anti-Surface Missiles. The G-Battleships 18 inch ElectroThermal-Chemical Guns turned and targetted the incoming ships, the M-Battleships readied their VLS missile tubes, then a message was sent to the incoming ships.

"Attention unidentified vessels, divert your course immediatly. You are entering temporarily restricted waters. Faliure to comply within the next minutre will result in you being fired upon."

Encrypted Communique to Rojo Quisqueya

Comrades...

In your time of need, the Halladi Workers Republic is more than willing to come to your aid. We have a limited package to offer at the moment, but only because this is very short notice. With your permission, we will send via airdrop and ship, a variety of weapons, ammunition, MRE's (meals ready to eat), and, of course, monetary funds. If you so wish, we can also deploy a small team of guerrillas to aid you. Please, contact us as soon as possible.
Rojo Quisqueya
10-12-2005, 15:47
Ambassador Rose Lefebvre contacted the Halladis from her position in PR Pracowity to suggest that monetary aid be directed into acquiring more war materials and delivering them to her besieged countrymen. Having only limited information she suggested that the airdrops head into the Cordillera Central from the north, and that they -and Halladi guerrillas- be acompanied by one of her Dominican staff, who worked for the QER during the early stages of the revolt, and who might act as a liason between they and the Quisqueyan Red Army, and update those inside the Republic on the international situation.

Of course, she was again forced to admit that her information may be inferior to that the Halladis themselves could gather from reconnaissance missions, and that for all she knew the Cordillera Central might be crawling with invaders by now (of course it wasn't).

The Halladi Special Forces - or Red Guerillas - were a small group of elite soldiers. Trained to surive on their own in hostile territory for weeks, even months if necessary, on their own, they were a formidable fighting force. Of course, they were in small numbers and rarely saw major action. Over the course of several weeks, the Halladi government wanted to move two hundred of them into Rojo Quisqueya to resist the counter-revolutionary forces of Red Tide. The plane ride would take thirty four hours, and the squad of Guerrilas being sent first would have to parachuet to the ground. This would not be a problem, however. The only major annoyance was gathering the supplies, which took a day and half. Captain Hashim, leading the advance party of the Guerrillas, looked over his cargo.

500 HAR-1A Assualt Rifles
5,000 Magizines of Ammunition
800 HAP-1 Automatic Pistols
10,000 Magizines of Ammunition
200 HLMG-1 Light Machine Guns (75 S-model, 25 N-model, 100 standard)
1,000 Magizines of Ammunition
100 HMG-1 Machine Guns (25 S-model, 75 standard)
600 250-Round Boxes
400 HSN-1 Sniper Rifles
2,000 Magizines of Ammunition
15,000 MRE's

This was all very good equipment, and Hashim oversaw it's loading into large crates, then onto transport aircraft. The planes would need to refuel three times on their way to Rojo Quisqueya, but Hashim knew that it was worth it. Of course, time was still of the essence.

After nearly thirty-six hours of preparing, the planes took off from a airbase outside of Erse, Hallad. In addition to this aid, 300 million USD's were fowarded to the government of Rojo Quisqueya, courtesy of the Halladi Workers Republic.

By now two entire brigades of troops(10,000 men) had landed on the beaches of San Pedro de Macoris and more were still coming in. The first brigade stayed on the beach to await the rest of the division while the other brigade began to move into the port. If the Red Tideans could seize the port, they would be able to bring loads of supplies and reinforcements. It was reported back to the Rear Admiral commanding the Carrier Battlegroup that the initial landings were successful and had met little resistance. He reported to his superiors in Red Tide.

The news kept going up the chain of command until it reached the Supreme Commander(IE: Leader) of Red Tide. He authorized to send a Mechanised-Infantry Division to the island. A Red Tidean Mechanised-Infantry Division consists mostly of infantry soldiers inside Armored Personnel Carriers, there are also two battalions of MBT-66 'Hydra' Main Battle Tanks(a Red Tidean Tank Battalion consists of 32 tanks, each tank with a crew of three). Along with that, there is some towed and self-proppelled artillery, and a single battalion of M-1RT Tunguska Mobile Anti-Aircraft Missile/Gun System.

No, I'm keeping most of the troops either on my carriers or at my JOINT base in Cuba on stand-by. The most I will deploy at one time is 25,000 troops.

As the 6 Carriers and the 5 Cruisers left the Joint base to begin the journey to Puerto Plata on the island of Hispaniola, the Naval intelligence officers began flooding the radio frequencies with static chatter to confuse the Red Tidean forces about the upcomming event. As the Field Commander, General George Tanaka, was sitting in his office in the bridge of the Carrier GNS "Liberty", his military advisor came in to his office.

"Sir, the radio chatter has commenced"

OOC: What is a single squad going to do against a entire division?

IC:The Red Tideans spoke on a speacial frequency designed for them. So they did not hear any radio chatter... except their intellegince agencies and they dismissed the chatter as meaningless drivel.

And, unfortuanatly for the Gilbadans, the Red Tidean Destroyers radar was much more powerful then the radar found on a AEGIS Cruiser, powerful enough to fry a small animal and pass straight through anything but solid Earth. But they didnt only have radar, they also had LADAR, in short, the incoming UH-60 was detected(OOC:I assume its coming towards my beach head? You have to be more specific on your destinations).

A single H/K-2 VTOL Interceptor sped towards it and the radio operators on the helicopter got a message at the 40 mile mark, "Attention unidentified aircraft, you are to divert your course immediatly or be fired upon."

Task force:

30 transport helicopters (chinooks)
15 Mil-35's (helicopter gunships)
20 Su-27's (fighters)
1 AWACS (A-50's) (to cordiante forces)

brought in by transport aircraft

10,000 infantry (elite units)
20 tanks
40 apcs
80 jeeps with MGs/rockets

50 military advisors (train units and such)

all we need is an airbase
we can secure the airbase and strike into the enemy (broad strategic decions can be made by the RQ goverment, tactics will be decided by our own commanders)

Ok just for future reference, no radar is perfect and they all have a terminal altitude which the field stops.

In the middle of the night, the pilot spotted multiple blips on his radar.

"Oh crap, we've been spotted, I don't know if we're gonna make it, but go ahead and drop the squad and the boat, under cover of night, they should be able to go in undetected"

"I agree, we'll drop them here and try to make it back to the carrier and when they catch up to us, we'll ditch in the ocean, captain Jhonson are you ready to drop"

"Yessir let's do it"

The boat was dropped and the squad was dropped into the water and climbed aboard, while the helicopter crew made a SOS call and turned around.

(OOC: I thought they were headed for Puerto Plata, on the opposite side of the island with mountains inbetween, which would mean 0% chance of shipboard radar off San Pedro de Marcorís getting a sniff of them. Maybe airborne radar in the right place, but I'm pretty sure ships radar aren't higher above sealevel than are mountain tops. The RedTidean ships are presumably something like two hundred kilometres away from vessels headed for Puerto Plata, with two mountain ranges between them.)

Forty-eight hours into the crisis

By the time the first Halladi Red Guerrillas had arrived in the middle of the former Dominican Republic, a beach-head with thousands of Red Tidean troops and numerous vehicles was firmly established at San Pedro de Macorís.

A small QER party in the mountainous interior met the Halladis, turning up dressed in the uniforms of the old national army, newly affixed with Red Army patches and, often as not, slogans declaring revolutionary ideals or Hispaniolan unity. They were armed with unusual weapons: Dominican originals, based on design work done by the Hungarian designer Kiraly, who worked in the Republic after the Second World War. They were now made in small machine shops scattered across the Hispaniolan countryside and throughout the mountains, sporting wooden furniture often carved by hand if not by very basic power tools not usually part of a modern military-industrial complex. These were .30in-M1-Carbine Cristobal Modelo 2 and 62 submachine-guns and 7.62x51mm-NATO Light Rifle Model 2, both of which had two triggers, one being for single shots and the other for automatic fire.

Needless to say, the QER unit didn't look much like part of an army, but there it was, around 80% young and older men and 20% their wives, sisters, and sometimes their mothers!

A man -apparently mixed-race- was introduced to the Halladis as local QER commander. He was wearing a beaten-up Panama hat decorated with feathers, and hand grenades and a 9mm Taurus automatic in addition to the Cristobal SMG that he grasped with one hand while waving a cigarette around with the other as he spoke.

"I am Hatuey, you are welcome, comrades!" he started, introducing himself with a name almost certainly adopted only since the revolution. He went on to say that nobody was sure exactly what was happening, or where they were needed, but on the understanding that trouble was concentrated on the south, his party was headed for the Distrito Nacional, where was located the former capital, in which they supposed the enemy would have a great interest.

"You come?" he asked, "Hey, you boys know who we're fighting, eh?" because he and his comrades honestly had no idea. "They trying to put the government back? We don't want any!"

San Pedro de Macorís

As one of the two landed brigades began to move in to secure the port city, a keen eye amongst them may have spotted a signal flag flutter briefly above one of the warehouses. Moments later came the whistle of incoming mortar fire, and a trio of 82mm bombs dropped in from about a kilometre inshore. Two more volleys within half a minute for a total of nine bombs were sent towards the Red Tidean vanguard before the fire-teams, guided only by the signals of flag-waving field-glass carrying comrades, packed up their mortars and attempted to withdraw, fearing counter-battery fire from the fleet about which they had precious little intelligence.

There was a frantic dash by teams of men to carry out the broken-down mortars and spare bombs as a handful of QER volunteers took up positions between the fire site and the enemy, hoping to snipe at any hasty pursuit or flanking move against the mortarbombers. Anti-aircraft potential was provided only by two Uirapuru Mekanika 7.62mm machineguns a few hundred metres apart under soft cover in the town. These too hoped to withdraw when the enemy approached in force, and were really only hoping to make low-flying aircraft abort attacking runs against the fleeing mortar crews.

The moment the first mortar fired, Counter-Battery Radar onboard the G-Battleships detected it. The big 18 inch guns again swung around, the location of the first round launched had been plotted quickly and easily. By the time the mortars had gotten off their 2nd volley, the 5 G-Battleships opened up. The massive shells filled with high explosives went soaring into the air. The battleships had big, modern guns capable of reaching 86 miles away. Each G-Battleship had 2 turrets, each one with 4 guns, there were five G-Battleships

The forward troops on the ground scrambled as soon as they heard the first mortar round incoming. The first and second round hit open country. The third round got lucky and killed two soldiers and wounded three. The next volley added 7 more soldiers to the casualty list, two of which died. The final volley killed 1 and wounded 4 soldiers. Those that were wounded, oddly enough, didnt utter a word of pain when they got hit, indeed they didnt display any emotion at all. They simply and calmly got back up(for those that could) and walked back towards the rear. Two trucks took some shrapnel, and that was all it wrote.

The crews of the AAPC-45s and ALBT-44s(which were at the very tip of the advance) constantly looked through their 'periscopes'. These periscopes had multiple types of view. Infrared, Nightvision, Ultraviolet, and Regular. The men were constantly switching between Infrared, Regular, and Ultraviolet. They spotted the men waiting for the 'hasty pursiut' and fired on them. The AAPCs used their 30mm autocannons and the ALBTs used their 105mm guns and their co-axial 6.8mm machineguns.

Rose Lefebvre tried to handle incoming information and offers of help with limited resources and almost no sleep in two days. Fanberry's government was told that, so far as the only Rojo Quisqueyan official outside the nation new, all paved airstrips in the former Dominican Republic were out of action.

Cap Haitien International, though, was extremely far from the hub of hostile activity. It had a 4,900ft paved runway and instrumentation for night-time and poor weather operation, being one of only two such sites in poverty-striken former Haiti. She had to say that the Republica's resources at this time did not enable her to confirm whether this facility was in operational condition, or whether the Red Tideans had already expended the time and resources in crippling facilities a couple of hundred miles from the scene of their invasion.

(OCC: how many aircraft are your squadrons?)

The AWACS has been sent over Cap Haiten, the radar officer notices incoming aircraft, and after they dont respond to coded Hamtarian frequencies, they are regarded as hostile.

The Holy Union of Hamtaro has a small airbase (but not large enoguh for bombers) in Cuba, (due to the friendlyness btween the Cubans and the Hamtarians, both socialists), very close to Cap Haiten

A squadron of Su-27SM's (4 flights, 24 aircraft) are quickly scrambled

"If the airbase at Cap Haiten is lost, everything will take longer to bring to the conflict area, due to the smallness of the base" Said the squadron leader. "We have to get all the enemies to preserve the airfield"

The lead flight picks up radar contacs in the form of what seems 2 enemy squadrons. The AWACS advices the 2 of the flights to get the aircraft flying cover, and 2 flights to attack the attack aircraft. The destruction of the attack aircraft was given priority, as they were more important.

IC:The H/K-1s were hugging the Earth, keeping at 1,000 feet and jammers on. The H/K-2s were flying up at 10,000 feet, providing top cover and flying further ahead. The H/K-2 pilots were looking through their HUDs, which displayed not only their RADAR, but also a LADAR system built into the plane. Both picked up the Su-27s as unknowns, which then became identified as bogeys(meaning it could or could not be hostile).

"I am being painted..." said 11 voices at once.

The sqaudron leader nodded and said, "Blow them out of the sky. Use countermeasures and conduct evasive manuevers."

The H/K-1s immediatly turned their jammers to full strength and began launch flares and chaff like crazy. The H/K-2s locked on with their ALLRAAMs(Advanced Ladar Long Range Air-Air Missiles). The LALRAAMS had a lock-on AND chase range about 20 miles farther then the American AMRAAM. As a bonus, the missiles were guided by LADAR instead of RADAR, making them much harder to jam and decoy away. They were also capable of locking onto multiple targets at once, finally, they had a speed of Mach 5.

"FOX-1!" 6 voices yelled in unision as they emptied all 48 of their ALLRAAMs. Then they began ejecting countermeasures on turning on their jammers. But they did not seem to take any evasive manuevers. Until 6 seconds before the enemy missile warheads detonated.

"NOW!"

At that moment all 12 aircraft activated their verticle thrusters and shot up at a diagnol angle, essentially 'leaping' over the enemy missiles. Any opposing missiles that had not been decoyed or jammed would find it incredibly hard to follow that manuever.

The mortar teams moving away from their fire position had been known to the enemy for somewhat less than fifteen seconds by the time they started to pack up. The weapons themselves along with most of the crew and munitions were gone when the place blew-up without warning, earth rubble and bodies flying into the air by the time the whistle of incoming shell fire caught up with the supersonic rounds themselves. Those who died were inexperienced helpers recently attached to the QER, given the task of acting as bearers for the almost entirely straight-leg (non-mechanised) force, who were trying to recover the last of the equipment emplaced by the mortar teams.

As the enemy drove inshore, firing at targets in the town, civilian casualties continued to climb, since the town was still quite full given the youthful nature of the invasion. That said, the Quisqueyan Red Army's losses were high relative to their small numbers on hand, and while the wise thing would have been for snipers to withdraw as well, the lack of communications equipment meant that most individuals lying in wait were unaware of how little success their cormades ahead of them were having, and would find out only when it was already too late to run.

As they moved deeper into the town, the Red Tideans began to encounter makeshift barricades made of civilian vehicles, rubble, and paving stones ripped-up on the orders of local commanders and stacked in streets, sometimes to block the whole thing and elsewhere -due to time constraints- just to provide hard cover for forces that weren't materialising anyway. In some places the invaders would find that rubble gradually made streets narrower and narrower, or guided them into confined spaces that looked apt for ambush. Unfortunately there was rarely anyone armed sufficiently to take advantage, and apart from the odd rifle shot or molotov cocktail directed against them, resistance was fairly light.

A lot of people were suddenly pouring out on to the streets, running scared thanks to the fire of battleship guns. By the time they'd moved close to the scene of earlier mortar fire the Red Tideans would find the streets suddenly crowded with terrified and confused Dominicans trying to get out of the city or to locate loved ones out of contact since the bombing began.

Across Hispaniola and leading up to Cap Haitien

Low-flying H/K-1 aircraft moving from the southeast to attack the northwest of the island, or on their way back after fighting the Franberry forces there, would find along the way large numbers of QER troops taking pot-shots from the towns, villages, hills, and forests of the island. 7.62x51mm machineguns were most commonly used, but heavier MGs and just the odd MANPAD missile (probably an old Strela type) would also leap up without warning from an unassuming rooftop, hillside, or from behind a treeline. Of course, no co-ordinated air defence grid or intercept aircraft were available to the Quisqueyans. The aircraft at 10,000 feet were safe from anything but a really lucky shot, it was fair to say.

Puerto Plata

Gilabad's special forces were greeted with a mix of suspicion and jubilation, some Quisqueyans training battle rifles on them while others fired celebratory shots in the air to welcome them.

A local QER commander calmed the situation, saluting the new arrivals before... bombarding them with questions about when surface to air missiles, tanks, and fighter jets were coming!

Finding these to be special forces looking for more personal involvement, he explained that a detachment was preparing to head south into the mountains. They would head into Santiago, then on to La Vega where the situation would be reassessed, since nobody really knew how far the war would have progressed when they got there.

"We're planning to march." He said, indicating a couple of dozen comrades. "It's fifty, sixty miles to the relay point. There's a main road heading straight up, so I can requisition for you some civilian cars, if you'd prefer. I don't trust the roads, with enemy air superiority, myself."

When further Gilabad forces began to arrive, the town met them with uniform cheer, people throwing flowers and kisses, and running out to put bright feathers in the hair of the foreigners.

OOC!

All right, I suppose we have to look at closing this down to new entries.

I think that the living-dead are probably taking this a bit out of its groove, so to speak, sorry, Leninist Workers. Nothing personal!

I suppose that it would be all right for RedTide2 to employ mercenaries, bring in a supporting ally, or something like that, if this is going to be a really major war with carrier battle fleets and thousands of armoured vehicles and aircraft.

I should add, though, that the QER is in danger of being over-shadowed. There are 17 million Quisqueyans. The number of willing QER volunteers is in the hundreds of thousands. The number of weapons actually available for use by the QER is in the tens of thousands, limiting the number of people who can actually be accepted by the organisation. The number of QER fighters who actually have experience in the revolution is just a few thousand, and they are the core of our resistance. They've got a grand total of 37 surviving armoured vehicles, and about a third of them are World War 2 vintage!

All I'm saying is that if people choose to deploy tens of thousands of troops and thousands of machines, they will suddenly become tasked with most of the fighting against RT2, with the QER supporting, rather than the other way around. That's fine if that's what people want to do, I'm just letting you know what you're in for.

Remember, there is a dedicated OOC thread linked in the first post. I'm going to see about updating the list of participants just now.

I've probably missed lots of things I need to address, sorry, I obviously didn't come on line to check this thread at the busiest part of the day! Just give me a reminder if you're waiting for me to say something in particular.

OOC:You got it right, those were the total missiles fired).

The Air Battle...

The Red Tideans may have run out of long range missiles, but they still had 30mm autoguns and 4 QMAAM(Quick Manueverable Air-Air MIssile) 4 per H/K-2.

The H/K-2s hit their vertical thrusters and once again shot up into the air, this time at a completely vertical angle. The Su-27, not being VTOL, was incapable of performing this maneuver. The H/K-2s then turned their noses down and fired 2 QMAAM per enemy plane. The QMAAM, with a speed of mach 6 and a 360 degree turn radius was next to impossible to outrun or evade. Given that it was guided by LADAR, it was VERY difficult to jam and near impossible to decoy.

The H/K-1s kept jinxing and sliding side-side on their vertical thrusters, throwing off missile lock after missile lock. 1 was hit and damaged on the way, it would not make it back, but it wasnt long before the aircraft(which were subsonic) reached the airfield. They decided against guiding their bombs in(given that they were being pursued and all) and decided to 'dumb drop them'. So they switched on their regular bombsights and dropped them. Each H/K-1 carried 6 bombs. With 6 H/K-1s, that was 36 bombs. Then the H/K-1s made a 180 spin in midair on their vertical thrusters and flew STRAIGHT back at their pursuers, blazing away with their 30mm autoguns.

The Port...

The soldiers began screaming at the civilians, but after not being heard, one of them got on a megaphone and yelled into it:

"ATTENTION, A CURFEW IS IN EFFECT! PLEASE RETURN TO YOUR HOMES!"

If they were not heard, they would fire a warning shot over the heads and then(assuming silence followed) would repeat their message.

By now the rest of the division had arrived back on the beach-head. This included the attached Close Combat Brigade. These men specialised in fighting in close combat areas(IE:Caves and Urban Areas).

When all of the troops in helicopters were deployed and set up a safe zone all the way up to the base of the mountains near Moca and Saledo, the heavy armour rolled in with the bradleys and "BattleFortress" tanks. Then the medics were offering assistance to all of the citizens or any QER that were able to retreat. Under direct orders from Central Command, that the special forces major was to offer to set up training camps up in the mountains, perhaps around Moca or Saledo. The physical training is not nessicary since time is short, but the basics of guerilla war-fare can easily be taught by the special forces squads who can train up to 50 soldiers at a time per each squad. Besides the six squads that were already there, there are 12 still on the way. With the extra assets, the troops also brought munitions for the QER, which include
-Stinger shoulder fired Ant-aircraft missile

When Central Command on the GNS liberty got word that the forces made it ashore with no incident, the rest of the fleet moved near the coast unloading the donated humvees. General Tanaka was watching the process go on, when his military advisor came up to him.

"Sir we need to achieve air superiority"

"I agree this needs to be done quickly if we are to succede"

"order 20 F-14s and...oh 10 F-22s into the air immediately and recon the south end of the island"

"yessir"

The planes took off of the carriers and headed to the southern part of the island. They flew at 22,000 feet flying over eachother so on the radar screen it appears as only one is present. Meanwhile the 20 inch guns began to aim their GPS guided guns at the southern end of the island and began firing away.

The shells landed FAR short of the Red Tidean Beachhead, the guns simply could not reach the 200 or so miles from Puerto Plata to San Pedros de Marcoris.

Over Cap Haiten:

"Got one!" Said the leader of flight 4

"Good job, but the enemy are nearing the port, I want 12 aircraft on their tail"

The Redtidean close range misslies were rendered useless by a couple of Hamtex6-UT countermeasures, these flares locked onto the missiles targeting and mutiplied their targets by 200, while jamming the original targets, they also emited 1000 times the heat and signal of a normal plane.

The Retidean aircraft realesed theri bombs over Cap Haiten, damaging most of the runway, the H/K-1's turned, and went straight at the Hamtarian planes, firing their cannons. The poor Redtideas were about to be met with a wall of firepower. 12 airplanes locked their 25mm 5 barrel galtling guns (extremly good tracking systems were mounted on these guns) on the Retideans and fired their MLCMS (Multiple Launch Cluster Missile Systems) at the enemy planes. The Retedians were about to slam into a wall of hundreds of missiles and countless projectiles.

At the base:
"Sir, Cap Haiten has been cratered, we can't land our long range bombers till the airfield is repared" said a lowly communications officer

"Mmmhm, well, send the Helis and interceptors to the Cuban airbase, and then redeploy them to Cap Haiten, were they'll fix the airfield." Said Wilkerton

"Yes Commander, wait, we have an incoming helicopter, its about to touch down"

"What?"

"Yes, it appears to be a friendly"

"Very well, continue with the rest of the operation"

The door of the helicopter opened, and out came a massive man, in full parade uniform, his chest covered in medals, glinting in the morning light

as Wilkerson walked down the stairs, he immediatly snapped to attention and saluted, as did every other person that could see the man

"Hail Hamtaro" (OCC: they're religious fanatics) "It is a pleasure to see you High Inquisitor Tiberius" Said the General

"Hail! By order of the High Office of the Imperium, I am to take command of the operation" Said the High Inquisitor. "I demand to be taken to the command room at once"

"Yes Inquisitior, follow me"

As the Inquisitor entered the building, the engines of the airplanes started up, and the blades of the helicopters began to spin.

The Franberry Air Battle...

The Red Tideans didnt even blink as they again activated their Vertical Thrusters and shot straight up again... except that damaged airplane, which thrusters failed and it ran straight into a wall of projectiles. Once they were safely over the walls of missiles, they shot forward again. Then they tipped their noses down and came staight at the top side of their attackers with 30mm guns.

Also, the Franberries still had the 6 H/K-2s on their tails, and the H/K-2s had better manueverability to the Su-27s and superior speed. Theses men easily matched their enemies manuevers and began to fire away with their 30mm guns. These were powerful weapons, more powerful then the guns on the Su-27.

The Gilabadian Scout Planes.

The 3D Radar Screens were not fooled by the little fly over each other trick that the Gilabads tried to pull. The 20 Gilabadian aircraft soon found up to 22 H/K-2 Interceptors on their tail at the 100 mile mark. Simultaneously, a transmission was sent to them.

"Attention unidentified aircraft, you are in temporarily restricted territory, you will adjust your course immediatly or be fired upon.

The TIDAL WAVE Destroyers and MOCKINGBIRD Class Frigates began to passively track the oncoming aircraft with their MDSM-4 Surface To Air Missiles.

Finally, the F-22s saw flashes of light in the distances, the same ones that you would see when a cruise missile launches. The M-Battleships fired CM-2 Cruise Missiles with Cluster, Cratering Munitions at the Haitien International Airport.

"These guys have better planes than us" Filght 2 leader's voice crackled over the radio "advice to disengage"

"Roger, All units disengage, drop Hamtex6-UT countermeasures and let fly with the rest of your missiles"

while 64 missiles and countless projectiles streaked at the Retideans, the Hamtarian planes then diengaged and with their modded engiens
streaked away toward the Cuban base

meanwhile, at the base

"30 interceptors and 50 helicopters are en route to Airbase 32 (the one in Cuba) the local goverment has lent massive amounts of AA defensives to the base and a lot of extra ground crews, the base personnel have already put up extra hangars and equipement for the aircraft" said Wilkerson

"Good" replied the Inqusitor, "I have just seen the date from the recent airbattle, and it is extremly dissapointing, I want new doctrine written and the planes are to be upgraded as soon as they touch down in Cuba. Also get me the name of whoever wrote the book on fighting VTOL aircraft"

"Yes Inqusitor, the records are coming up right now, the man's name is Stanly Jepetro"

"Goooood"

Stanly was doing some shopping with his family
"Stan, do u think this blouse looks good on me?"
"Anything looks good on you dear"

"Daddy, can we go look at the toys now??" said his smallest son
"Fine, but stay in the toy section"

*a whisper into a radio* "The children are clear, go now"
10 agents of the Office of the Imperium pop out from behind displays, collums and clothes rack and run straight at the couple. Stanly is brought to the ground and handcuffed, his wife is much more gently handcuffed.

They're escorted out of the mall into a black, bulletproof van, the children are then fetched and treated much more gently, they'll be taken care of by their uncle.

Cap Haitien International

Limited operational emergency services covered only by machinegun fire achieved little as they attempted to save the airport, many perishing when new waves of explosives descended upon the facility. Few military staff were on hand, the QER's Haitian branches being split between two missions: one to head east and help their Dominican comrades to contain the enemy, and one to move into towns and cities to make certain that the old militias that had plagued Haiti -not to mention the remains of the infamous Tonton Macoutes- did not rise up again, fed by the fearful wind blowing from across the border. Not to mention the ever-present threat of the Haitian government remaining on the barren rock that was the Ile de la Gonave.

Puerto Plata looked like the only hope for international aid reaching Quisqueya.

Puerto Plata

Gilabadian forces here were approached without warning by a party of men and women that drew an even bigger and more enthusiastic crowd than they themselves had been met by. Vicente Batistuta was in town.

Batistuta was founder of the Quisqueyan Red Army, leader of the revolution in the Dominican Republic (in Haiti, a Victor Wiltord had lead a militia called the Wanderers and later joined them to Batistuta's QER), and clear favourite to become premier as soon as it became possible to hold elections in the newly unified nation.

Vicente could be seen standing tall, driven in the last M3 half-track operational on the island (others were actually destroyed by the QER while in government service), and escorted by a Panhard Automitrailleusse Legre (AML) armoured car and, unmistakably, an M4 Sherman tank!

The General was beaming from behind a large pair of sunglasses, waving his hand and chewing on a big cuban cigar. It was clear to see that, however much firepower the Gilabadians brought, the Dominican people saw Batistuta as the man who would save them.

Children were allowed to climb excitedly over the Sherman tank, some swinging from its 76mm gun while others listened, wide eyed, as the commander showed them how he used the .50 calibre machinegun to shoot down a government Kiowa helicopter during the revolution. Batistuta and his aides left the vehicles and vanished into the town, a QER lieutenant later returning to send for representation by the Gilabadians.

Batistuta was making Puerto Plata his wartime capital, though he insisted that Pedernales was still to be the ultimate seat of government once the war was over. He wanted to meet with the Gilabadians and others to co-ordinate action, and sent out a call to allies of the Quisqueyan revolution to send representation to Puerto Plata. He also asked (in truth virtually demanded) that major fleet assets be concentrated near by in order to protect against marine and aerial assault.

"Gregorio Luperón International [airport] has a strip of more than ten thousand feet. I have ordered work details established to make sure that it stays in working order, but this can only be achieved with the proper air defences in place." Batitsuta said on meeting his foreign helpers in a small requisitioned house in the city, where refreshments were served and the atmosphere was unchanged by the invasion. "Perhaps we should rename that" he said to one of his lurking QER bodyguards, "I am the new Luperón, eh!

"Where are the Franberry lot?" He said, looking round as if he expected to find someone hiding in a corner, "Their fleet should pick up some of Wiltord's men from the west and storm the Ile de la Gonave, finish-off the old order now so we can be done with it and move on to modern threats! Tell them! The Haitians can't help us until they're convinced that the old government won't come back, and we need their men, okay?

"Mister... Mister Gilabadian" the General said, pointing to the officer brought to meet him, "your guns, your ships guns, are falling... shells on our territory. The people think we are surrounded by battleships off every beach, it won't do for moral. I don't know if I can make you engage the Red Tidean fleet at sea, but until we've lost the ground battle in the highlands, your gunfire won't do much good from the north coasts.

"We thank you for the Humvees. It's very good. A thousand is a real army!" In truth the QER would struggle to use five hundred Humvees, let alone a thousand, but Batistuta wasn't going to admit that, and it would always be good to have spares on hand. The vehicles could be used to ferry troops from the cities into the mountains at least where there was some aircover, and they were needed to move the fifty or so light and medium artillery pieces available to the QER (105mm field guns, 120mm mortars, and some recoilless rifles).

The grenades, some of the rifles, and especially the Stingers were also welcome, as were the 81mm mortars: the QER had both 81mm and 82mm mortars, but both were able to launch 81mm bombs (the 81mm mortars were not able to launch 82mm bombs, so Batistuta was pleased to be getting more 81mm bombs workable with both mortars). Rifle wise, though, the QER was almost totally geared to 7.62x51mm NATO ammunition, and this information was relayed to any parties that might supply future armaments.

Now that the Gilabadians were on hand in force and Puerto Plata seemed relatively stable, the revolutionary Quisqueyan government was starting to function once again.
It was reported that:

1) Allied forces could muster in Puerto Plata and/or move into the highlands of Provincia La Vega and Sánchez Ramírez, where QER strength was high

2) General Batistuta wanted air and naval defence concentrated on protecting Puerto Plata and Gregorio Luperón International, considering the poorly kept Haitian airports and those bombarded in southern Dominican Rep. to be a lost cause for now

3) The General had called for Franberry to collect Haitian QER fighters and use its fleet assets to help them assault the Ile de la Gonave, where the Haitian government was holding out, thus freeing Haitian recruits to join the resistance against Red Tide.

4) The government declared that the port facilities at San Pedro de Macorís were in enemy hands and partially intact, indicating that reinforcements would probably be easily inserted by the invaders, and the Distrito Nacional and the extreme southeast was likely to be taken in short order, though the city of Santo Domingo contained some hundreds of prepared QER volunteers under arms and would surely resist.

5) QER casualties were thought to be in the scores, civilian casualties had passed three figures and were rising quickly, and enemy losses were believed to be between half a dozen and two dozen.

While only light resistance continued to the south, the QER intended to gather most of its strength at Puerto Plata and in the central highlands to resist incursion beyond the southeast: the Rio Haina would not be breached from the east, nor the Rio Ozama from the south, by the word of General Batistuta.

(Sorry I didn't deal with everything, this was getting a bit long already)

General Tanaka was examining the unloading of the supplies when he got the message.

"Damnit, call of the bombardment, immediately"

"Tell General Batistuta that I'm on my way to meet with him. And ask him if there is anything more my forces can do. Air-lift the 6 special forces squads to an area near Moca where they can set up training camps if the QER want to send any in for training"

Ile de la Gonave...

Former Goverment Camp

Special Forces men glided onto the ground around the camp

and soon as they hit the groud, the guns came out and everyone reported themselves as landed and in position

"Open Fire"

The supporters of the Former goverment started dropping, some got behind cover and fired back blindly into the dark.

they were quickly disposed of with granades

a Commando strapped a bomb to the steel door of the concrete building, and blew it open

they chucked flashbangs and smoke inside, and once the granades went off, stormed in, immideatly killing 3 surprised guards. They made their way down to the lowest bunker, were they found the former leaders, scared shitless and with their hands up.

"Keep them alive, they'll be great to show on TV"
"hehe"

Rest of the island

Hundreds of Hamtarian Special Forces climbed out from their little boats and came out of their helicopters, the local forces still allied to the former goverment were quickly overwelmed and any important personnel were captured.

Casualties: Spec. Forces: 5 killed, 12 wounded
Former Haitian Goverment: 156 killed, countless wounded

the Former leaders are being held in our base in Cuba, we will give them over to the QER soon, or keep them in Cuba, were they are safe, its the QER decicion

OOC:Actrually, I heard somewhere that the Iowas battleships guns had a max range of under 40 kilometers, and the 16 inch guns on the Iowas never were fired on Baghdad, you must be thinking of the cruise missiles. Of course, the Iowa is severely outdated, the only reason my guns can reach 86 miles is because they are modern guns AND are Electro-Thermal Chemical. Also, those missiles are not anti-ship cruise missiles, they are carrying cluster munitions.

Also, any cruise missiles designed to attack fixed structures(such as an airbase) can not be jammed, this is due to the fact that the Cruise Missile is guided by a onboard computer with a map. This computer follows landmarks to its target using some sort of scanner.

IC:The chaff would do little to hinder the incomnig missiles as TWO HUNDRED RADAR and LADAR Surface-Air Missiles came flying at the planes at mach-5, launched from the VLS tubes of the offshore destroyers. These were further augmented by the 176 ALLRAAMs launched from the closing H/K-2 Interceptors. In total, 376 missiles were flying at 20 aircraft, this was not good for the enemy.

The incomming missiles were closing in fast as the squadron broke from formation. The team leader using his immense training to his advantage did what he needed to do.

"This is Bravo Team Leader everybody spread out and deploy your Chaff, this will spread out the missiles and confuse them the most!"

All the squadron said simulaneously crossing themselves
"Yes Sir!"

The force spread out deploying multiple chaff pods releasing a mixutre of shreaded metal and ignited phorospherous and magnesium. The team again using their training pulled back on the stick andwent into an ascent. The incomming missiles (due to the large clouds of shreaded metal) went into the fricas disoriented and confused. Many of them exploded in all of the chaff deployments but some of them were able to re-acquire their targets and found their way on the tail of some of the fighters.

OK, this is Godmoding, you can't just say that your equipment is perfect and failsafe, in NS there is no perfect radar, no perfect missile, but I will do with it for now. Heat was not the only thing emitted by the counter measures, most countermeasures consist of a heat component and an obstacle component in this case shreaded metal that forms a cloud. Sorry about the incompleteness of the last post, I was in a hurry.

Some of the missiles passed the counter measures and were able to find themselves on the tail of the fighters which were doing every maneuver they could to shake it.

"Damnit is there anybody who doesn't have a missile on their tail!"

"Sir, I've got major shrapenal damage to my aircraft I don't know if I'm going to make it!"

"Sir I was able to shake off 2 I'm clear at the moment"

"Bravo 2 engage those bastards!"

Using the avionics to his advantage on his F-22, Bravo 10 was able to lock onto a target.

"Yessir....I've got a missile lock now....Fox1!"

"Sir I think we've lost Bravo 4 and 7 in the commotion!"

"Alright alright...Bravo 4 can you make it back?"

"I don't know sir but I'll try there's a missile on my tail!"

"Make it back as far as you can and ditch your aircraft"

"Sir we've lot contact with Bravo 12!"

OOC:I am not godmodding, you said you let off HEAT-BASED countermeasures, those kind of countermeasures may work against Infrared, Ultraviolet, and Heat Seeking missiles, but NOT against LADAR and RADAR. Unfortuanantly for you, those missiles are ALL LADAR and RADAR guided. Also, those planes are dead, when you have TWO-HUNDRED SEVENTY-SIX(count them) missiles flying at you from varying distances, you would NOT be able to avoid them all, some of them, yes, but not all of them. The pilots CAN eject(they are over friendly held territory anyways).

Second off, about your battleships guns, are they 20 inch ETC or 20 inch regular? If regular, you would have about a 10-15 mile range disadvantage compared to my Battleships, since an ETC guns is several times more powerful then a regular one. If ETC, I would say you would have a range of approximately 100 miles, either way, you would not be able to fire the TWO or THREE HUNDRED MILES from Puerto Plata to my naval fleet off of San Pedro de Macoris.

Dogfight over Cap Haiten
Former Haitan Goverment captured

Undisclosed location, somewere in Hispaniola
The crisis in Hispaniola has quickly spiraled out of control. More and more men are being involved in the struggle to help the goverment defend itself against the Retidians.

The imperialistic Retidians are securing their beach-heads and attempting to advance indland, although they are met with heavy resistance from QER fighters, and have taken considerable losses.

Earlier today, our Air Force defended Cap Haiten international from Retidean attack. Humanitarian aid was being unloaded at Cap Haiten when enemy aircraft apeared on radar, they procceded to crater the airbase, but not without taking losses. Also, the Retidians destroyed 2 relief planes.

Our special forces also stormed Ile de la Gonave, capturing the former goverment leaders.

Enemy forces:150+ killed

Up util now, all the QER and co. had been facing were actually just a slightly modified Red Tidean Infantry Division. Now they would have a new threat to face... the Red Tidean Mechanized-Infantry Division.

The first transport carrying a full MBT Battalion(32 tanks, 3 men per tank) docked in the port and began the process of unloading. The first thing off the big transport(large enough to hold a regiment(2,500 men)) was a MBT Battalion on board. The first 'Hydra' Main Battle Tank, the sun gleaming off its Titanium-Tungsten Composite Armor, looking slightly toy like, its menacing, long barrelled, 130mm ETC gun gave the true meaning to its purpose. The tank rolled to the assembly point as more of the regiment was unloaded. Another transport docked further elsewhere in the dock, more men poured off in a organized fashion.

The transports also brought in a little surprise for the people: a Consortium Battalion who began to do what the Consortium did best... that is oppress the local populace, brutally. Multiple flyers were put up, showing crimes that were now illegal in the town and their punishments. About a quarter of them had a death penalty, and MOST of the rest carried prison sentences.

I did say missiles got through so I'm still willing to continue. The guns on my Texas class battlecruiser are neither ETC or regular. For one thing the barrels are over lengthened (even for its size of caliber) for a reason, It has a 1:15 inch twist to add extra spin on the projectile. Second it uses a high grade propellent. It's high quality gunpowder mixed with ammonia nitrate to give it a little more propulsion too i. The rounds are specially designed to be accurate unlike ordinary military regular ball ammo. Within five minutes, the attack subs were in position, with two groups of three targeting the two closest ships. Each sub fired a full spread of four torpedos, rigged for silent running, and waited.

(OOC: The Sherman is no joke. I'm not sure if anyone has been paying attention, but this is Hispaniola, not Saudi Arabia or Russia or something. The QER has ten Sherman tanks, one M3 halftrack, six Commando 4x4 APCs, and eighteen AML armoured cars, all of which it captured from the former governments after knocking out a couple of other vehicles themselves during the revolution. Now they're being given Humvees, but don't have the crews or facilities to operate and maintain many of them.

It should be noted that other nations are firing munitions worth more than the island itself, at this point! I can only imagine that RedTide2 must be a hell-hole on the brink of revolution or disintigration as a result of its massive military waste, and I wouldn't be surprised if other nations followed it. This is a fight over a nation with a population smaller than some of these countries' cities, with an economy akin to a small African republic.
But that's everyone's prerogative.

I do have one issue, here... I would prefer that Franberry hadn't just done a whole section of the RP in one post, without me. What if the government had taken all the nation's oil and set the beach on fire when your men landed, or what if the government's officials had hiden amongst the population? It would have been better to take it a step at a time. In this case it's okay, though. I'm all right with the government being captured, luckily.

All right, you guys can continue to shoot it out in the skies and on the sea, I don't really want much to do with what is clearly theoretical or currently impractical technology that I haven't the time to fully investigate, so, back to the infantry I go...

If the massive ubertech war goes down the toilet, please, nobody have a fit and give-up, the big-hitting can always be stopped so far as your people are concerned, while a different sort of conflict continues confined to Hispaniola! Remember, we really don't even care about people's tanks and things- what are they going to do, knock out or Shermans? Heh, big loss!)

Provincia de San Cristóbal

The banks of the Rio Ozama saw significant QER activity at the time of Red Tidean reinforcement to the south. Victor Wiltord had arrived in secret aboard a V-150 Commando 4x4 armoured personnel carrier, and conferred the rank of Colonel upon one comrade Hatuey, who was now to lead a large part of the QER's activity in the field, reporting to the political command of Wiltord (in the central highlands) and Batistuta (in Puerto Plata).

The QER was also under-going further changes. It was growing as Batistuta's staff went about encouraging people to volunteer, and the organisation had over one hundred thousand names on the books, though it didn't have enough caps and boots for them, let alone weapons and instructors. It was starting to mechanise in a small way thanks to the generous provision by the Republic's allies of armed Humvee machines. Significantly, it was also starting to call itself The Patriotic Army, which may have been part of the recruitment drive aimed at apolitical or anti-communist residents of the island that the Red Army was struggling to inspire... of course it was presented as being merely reflective of the change from civil war to national defence, which indicated a radical alteration of what the QER actually was.

Colonel Hatuey had some fifteen hundred fighting men under his direct command, and they arranged themselves either in available woodland or on the reverse face of hills and mountains in the region so as to afford some protection against aerial attack. Allies were informed of Hatuey's intention to head east in the hills while much larger but less professional forces made a showing in San Cristóbal and into the Distrito Nacional. The larger force would send infantry and mechanised probes south to draw the enemy's attention while massing thousands of light infantry with whatever little AAA and SAM cover they had available and with dispersion, natural cover, and trenchwork defending them.

The captain of the Destroyer lept into action. Immediatly the submarines found themselves surounded by TC-2C Anti-Submarine Helicopters, which began to drop active SONAR bouys and also began overflights with Magnetic Anamoly Detectors. Soon there were up to 12 Mk-50 Anti-Submarine Torepedos coming straight down on the enemy submarines.

Then with a pillar of smoke, several ballistic missiles shot skyward, up, up, up. Meanwhile the torepedos struck the G-Battleships, pillars of water shot upward next to the G-Battleships. Bulkheads slammed shut inside it as water began to fill rooms. The 4 of G-Battleships were forced to head towrads port. The last one could stay afloat despite damages.

Mean while, the MOCKINGBIRD Frigates and TIDAL WAVE Destroyers fired several dozen ASROCs at the enemy submarines.

OOC2: I need to know whether the ballistic missiles are strategic ones or tactical ones before I post defending against them.

Warlord Shawhabas made it to the GSA (Gilabad Space Association) headquarters.

"Alright fellas, I want that Particle Beam Sattelite to commense attack immediately!"

"It will be done sir, just give us a few minutes"

"alright...alright"

5 minutes later....

"Sir we've made the uplink to the sattelite"

"Good..Good"

"Activating targetting system....which target do you want to try sir?"

"Lets try one of those Red Tidean Ships..they've bugged me and General Tanaka enough"

"Yessir...Target selected...Seemingly large Red Tidean sea vessel possibley a cruiser"

"I'm powering up the generator.....activating laser in 5...4...3...2...WHAT!"

"What is it!?"

"Sir we've had a malfunction"

"WELL FIX IT!?"

"Y-Yessir it's going to take just a few more minutes"

OOC:My fleet doesnt have any cruisers.

IC: Red Tidean Space Command...

"Hmm, that Gilabadian Sattelite had a unusual power surge... then it stopped." a Technician said, "Furthermore, it was right over our fleet in the off of Hispaniola."

"Do we have any SRS(OOCNote:Space Reconnasiance Sattelite)'s nearby that Gilabadian Sattelite?" A colonel asked.

"Yes sir, hold on one moment." The technician nodded, "AH! It wasw a Particle Beam Sattelite."

"WHAT!?" The colonel yelled, moving over to the technicians station and looking at the screen, sure enough, there was the unmistakable look of a Particle Beam Sattelite. "I want a Suicide Sattelite to take it down NOW."

"Yes, sir." The technician went to work.

Mid-Earth Orbit...

A single sattelite recieved a transmission, a transmission for a new mission. It was a FS-1 Suicide Sattelite, nicknamed 'Falling Star'. This was a sattelite that was designed to fall through the atmosphere intact and cause massive damage via kinetic energy. But it also worked as an Anti-Sattelite Weapon.

Soon the booster on the sattelite activated and sent it hurtling towards the Particle Beam Sattelite, the course was plotted to exact. The Particle Beam Sattelite, if it had boosters, COULD throw itself into an evasive manuever, but that would use up alot of fuel and move it away from its target.

"Uh people we've got an un-identified flyin object headed twoards the sattelite!"

"WELL GET IT WORKING AND FIRE IT BEFORE IT GETS HIT!"

"Yessir I'm almost done...Okay....there its working we have to move fast lets go"

"Powering up generator"

"Targeting system initiated....activating laser in 5....4....3....2...1...Laser Activated!"

1 minute later...

"and there goes one of our particle beam sattelites"

"Get another one quick!"

OOC:How many Particle Beam Sattelites do you have? Also, your post sorta confused me, were you able to fire the Particle Beam or not?

IC:"The gloves are off." A General at Red Tidean Space Command said, "Its time we strike back... the Supreme Commander has authorized the use of FS-1s against any threats in space and on the ground. We are NOT, repeat, NOT authorized to deploy the FS-2s."

Minutes later a FS-1 activated its boosters until it was over its target, the town of Puerto Plata. Its back boosters thern threw it out of orbit and put it at mercy of the Earths Atmosphere. It plunged down, down, down, eventually reaching a speed of mach-20. It came down with the equivalent kinetic energy of a tactical nuclear bomb.

Yes it did fire, but it was destroyed shortly afterward. I have a total of 50 PArticle beam sattelites currently in orbit, but to be fair I'm only employing two for now. I'm waiting on an RP about the damge to the vessel.

The GSA detected a rapidly falling object headed for Puerto Plata. And qucickly notified General Tanaka. He was still looking over proposals for Quisqueya when his military advisor came bursting into the war room on the GNS Liberty.

"Sir!......GSA has detected some sort of projectile rapidly falling twoards Puerto Plata!"

"Order a mandatory evacuation immediately! Get the ships to back off at least 5 miles!"

"What about the troops Sir, we have landed near 61,000 troops in and around Puerto Plata, and what about the civillians!"

"Tell them to evacuate and get beyond 5 miles of puerto Plata! I don't know of any coward that would kill innocent civillians! Tell the troops to load as many civillians in the vehicles as possible to which the troops can fit also, I'm not leaving these people behind!"

"Yessir"

It was a mad scramble as all 61,000 troops got on Humvees, Bradleys and Helicopters and tried to load as many civillians as possible. The civillians that didn't get lifted out were told to evacuate any way possible. The last of the troops were airlifted out just before the object came crashing down into the city killing huundreds of civillians who couldn't make it out. While the blast caused 2 helicopters which were just outside the blast radius came crashing down into a mountain to the east wounding 22 soldiers.

OOC:I am going to have to call BS on two accounts. First, the amount of soldiers that survived the Falling Star. Do you know how HARD it is to evacuate SIXTY-ONE THOUSAND men in 5 minutes(the amount of time it takes for the sattelite to hit the ground)? Damn well impossible I tell you. Oh sure, there will be plenty of survivors(probably 60-65% of the men would survive the blast), and that is assuming you somehow were able to start the evacuation as soon as the sattelite starts falling(which you couldnt have, it takes time for orders to reach the soldiers you know).

The second account is your redicilous number of Particle Beam Sattelites. The expense involved in producing a sattelite with a energy weapon large enough to survive the penetration of the atmosphere while still having enough firepower to take out a ship is in the TENS OF TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS! And that is the sattelite ALONE! You still have to bring You could NOT have possibly the troop amounts you have AND 50 PB Sattelite! Unless, of course, your economy is virtually nonexistant, those vehicles are so poorly maintained that a assault rifle would penetrate the armor, AND all of your troops are armed with machetes!

IC: The particle beam fell down and hit an M-Battleship. It hard the particular luck of falling on the M-Battlships missile storage section, this set off a chain reaction of missile explosions that resulted in the Battleship being ripped in two. The two sections rapidly began to fill with water and sink to the bottom.

(OCC: Sorry I havent posted, i was at school allllll of today cuz i had a French exam. Can Redtide use the Falling Star thing without having international punishment, trade embargos and stuff like that. Because hes not only invaded a new country, but thrown satelites at it)

IC: We would be more than happy to give you 50 T-90's, fuel, munitions and 10 crews that you can use to train whoever is using the Shermans and other soldiers, so the T-90's can be operated

Hamtarian soldiers and veichles spilled out from the landing craft, and spread out over the north of former Hati. The airport at Cap Haiten is being repaired.

OOC: Ooookay, what the heck is everyone doing? Is everyone completely mad or stupid or what? Weapons of mass destruction, orbital artillery, beam weapons, practical LIDAR, everything moving 20% faster than in reality, every second post fully or partially out of character because of debates about technology or what just happened. I think I've just about lost interest in this. It is more like hard work than anything else. I'm just going to assume that RedTide2 has collapsed on itself because of utterly inept leadership and a coup probably led by a moderately bright monkey or something, half the troops have probably mutinied and decided to settle down in the relatively nice hell-hole of Haiti, and that nobody else kept-up the astronomical spending and rising provocations when this happened and everyone realised that Rojo Quisqueya was in fact Hispaniola, and I'm just going to go back to building my nation, and making sure that I stay well away from the aptly abbreviated Post-Modern-Tech theatre in future.

Thanks. You can all continue fighting amongst yourselves if you want, but I didn't create RQ to be used as a staging ground for arguments about theoretical technology that doesn't interest me, economics that nobody involved understands anyway, or for nonsense WMD use. If anyone needs me I'll be on the toilet building national character.

OOC:............ thanks alot you guys! For the record, LADAR IS practical and already in USE in some parts of Western Military(and thats LADAR, not LIDAR, LADAR), Suicide Sattelites are perfectly feasible given that if you can shield a Nuclear Warhead(which reenters the atmosphere at mach 15-25), you can certainly shield a sattelite, finally Electro-Thermal Chemical guns are not CURRENTLY IN PRACTICAL USE, but will be in the next 15 years on tanks and such(which is what MOST people here consider Modern Tech). A coup-de-tat has not occured because of the following reason:

All Red Tidean Consortium and Military Personnel under the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel wear a special collar around their necks, this collar injects a powerful hallucinegon(SP?) directly into the wearers spinal cord which travels into the brain. This alters the memories of a person. It makes the soldier/agent completely loyal to the goverment(especially the leader, the Supreme Commander). The chemical is also their 'trainer', it gives them the knowledge of how to shoot, clean, unjam, etc. etc. military class weapons. The civilian populace HAS revolted numerous times in the past, but each time the Military and Consortium puts down the rebbellion with brute force.

First of all there is no way a sattellite wouldn't burn up falling straight down. At that angle there is no sattelite that can take an angle like that and not dissenigrate. I'm going to RP as if the Atmosphere didn't exist? My men aren't civillians with small arms. They are trained men. The U.S. military can accomplish that, and they have before, my troops are better trained then the U.S. military is. Within five minutes, the very least would be 85%. If you don't know, they had vehicles, they weren't on foot. It takes less than ten seconds for an evacuation call to through all of the radios the rest of the time their flooring it the hell outa there.

OOC: The sattelites are SHIELDED! Do you hear that! SHIELDED! With the same coating that protects Re-entry Vehicles for Nuclear Warheads(which can move at Mach-25)!

Second, so your troops, all sixty-one thousand of them, plus the untold number of civilians, somehow got out, with over ten thousand armored vehicles, over poorly maintained dirt roads, which were in close quarters without having a inevitable traffic accident that would block the road, tying up numerous troops? BULL****! The US did it only because they were in the goddamn center of the DESERT! And even then, it took more then FIVE MINUTES to get out of the area! You, however, are in tightly confined villages and then, outside the village, lots of tree! That sure will slow you down!

And then there is the fact that you havent even addressed the economic problems ascosiated with it!

ooc: hats off to your SONAR operater being able to recognize the unusual sound that a caterpillar drive does make, and be able to distunguish it underneath all that noise all those naval vessels are making....

ic: Captain Terrel Harris had enough experience not to wait around for the enemy's destroyers to launch a counter attack. Although using the caterpillar drive gave them a significant speed advantage over traditional propulsion, it would be no match for modern destroyers, let alone the anti-sub helecopters he knew would be onboard. Immediately he ordered the Victory and the rest of the sub fleet to hit bottom. With all drives off, the only sound would be the momentary sound of water flooding ballist tanks. He hoped that silently sitting on the bottom, the enemy torpedos he knew were coming would lose them.
"Sir, we have torpedos in the water."
"They've been able to launch already?" Captain Harris asked his SONAR operator with amazement."
"No sir. By the pitch, they're ours. Another full spread. Must have been launched by the Viceroy, they're the closest ones to the oncoming enemy destroyer."
"That's Ben Michaels boat. He always was too much of a risk-taker. I hope he knows what he's doing."

OOC:The role play is over anyways, and, by the way, the warheads on a Intercontinental Missile DO clear the amtosphere for a little while. Second, of course my nations sonarmen can recognise the sound of a cattepillar drive... ESPECIALLY DUE TO THE FACT THAT MY OWN NATION USES THEM!

Also, are you familiar with the mark-50 Anti-Submarine Torepedo? One of the smartest weapons in the world? I dont give a damn what depth your subs are at, those torepedos are being dropped right ontop of you by Helicopters! Besides, we are done here, the roleplays over, and I am putting a dead-end ignore on this, as far as I am concerned, nothing in this roleplay ever happened.

The reason an ICBM can re-enter without burning up is because it bearly leaves the atmosphere before it comes back down, therefore it doesn't have time to gain enough speed that when it enters the atmosphere, it doesn't ignite. Going Mach 20 through the atmosphere, straight down. It would vaporize before it hit the ground. The space shuttle comes in at an angle at mach 5, and it has a tough time from being dissenegrated. The temperature outside exceeds steele's melting point! At mach 20 steele would've boiled.

I don't know if I ought to try again with a less friendly opening so that people don't get the wrong idea and think that I chose to play a small, realistic nation in order to have someone who chose to... not do so come along and blow it up with highly dubious technology supported by far-out ideas that they don't appear to understand themselves.

I might not mind playing a reasonably realistic guerrilla conflict, a dirty war, something like that. But no nonsense. There's countless sci-fi games out there on the internet, and precious few with any relation to anything that's even possible, let along practical, and this can be one.

It may be best to just get into running my new nation, but I think I may try something else. The republic formed, and the nationalist paramilitaries continuing to cause trouble.

Probably I'll make it so that applicants have to go to the OOC thread first, instead of consistantly ignoring it.
