Of Canals and Communists OOC signup thread:
A map of the country and its neighbors (http://img186.imageshack.us/img186/2775/rucd1lw.png)

This will be the signup thread for my rp, Of Canals and Communists. The RP will be leaning towards story style, so if you plan to rp please don’t confuse me with numbers and lots of technical data. I don’t even post troop lists:eek:

The rp is based around a fictional nation called Las Provincias Unidas de la Costa Diamante (P.U.C.D), in English “The United Provinces of the Diamond Coast.” It is a country rich in natural resources, particularly precious gems, tropical crops, marine food sources and a recently discovered medium-sized source of gold straddling the provinces of Central and Norte. But what makes the country highly important to the rest of the world is the canal built through the Isthmus nation, connecting two oceans and saving weeks of travel and thousands of dollars. Almost every nation on earth with a sea trade is interested in having the right people hold in control of the canal.

Despite its riches, the country is only slightly wealthy because up until 6 years ago it had been ruled by a series of corrupt dictators. Now with President Vargas in power, the economy is slowly following the pattern of improvement that already has occurred for the nation’s civil rights and political freedoms. But trouble is brewing.

The charismatic commander for the army in Norte, Juan Aranel, harbors a lust for power and the adoration of everyone, something wiser men know is impossible. Thinking he can do so, he has plotted for months to become the Stalinist leader of a communist Costa Diamante, and when he declares his intentions, the provinces and territories on the map colored in red break away and join him. Later that day, a packed ferry sitting at the dock in the Democrat-held city of Corunna Nueva is blown up by communists, killing hundreds and severely limiting transport between the mainland and Puerto Turqueso, outraging many. This is where the RP will begin.

It is uncertain what the future will hold. The Diamond Coast is bordered by three other nations Merida, Colador and San Alejandro, whose responses could tip the balance. But scarier still is what the rest of the world might do. Whether they support the Democratic government or the Communist rebels, they all desire to maintain access to the vital canal and the stability of the country it crosses, no matter what it takes. One thing is sure: For good or bad, things are changing fast in the important nation, and the entire world is watching.

BTW, the countries neighboring me are similar in climate, culture etc., so you should rp them as tropical states. YOU could be the head of a banana republic. Is that inticing or what?;)
