NOTE TO MODS:
If this is in the wrong place, feel free to move it.

ON TOPIC:
It can be any character, Damien Dreadfire, High Father, Supreme Ruler of DMG....the list goes on. How would you react meeting any NS character face-to-face? What would you say?

Probably stunned disbelief.

Here are a couple of my reactions.

Damien Dreadfire

I hope he's in a good mood.

President Kenix Kil

Politicians.....but if he is a good guy, I'll be happy.

If I ever met Dreadfire in the flesh, I'd ask him a few questions:

1. Why did he give up professional wrestling?
2. Does all that fire he keeps standing in start to hurt?
3. Can I meet up with his daughter? :fluffle:

Obviously I would then run away quite quickly in the opposite direction.

I've met Dreadfire. Yes, he's an imposing figure, and worthy of respect. But get a few beers in him, and he's a bit of a regular guy.....

I'd like to meet several persons I've dealt with over the years, namely the leader of Sarzonia and the leader of Guffingford.

I think I would be impressed with Sarzonia. His well thought out threads and posts have entertained for a long time. Pacitalia falls into the same catagory.

If I had the opportunity to meet Guffingford, it would be to seize the moment and plunge a foot-long dagger into his throat. That over-bearing, psychotic, anal-retentive moron ( the IC character ) is a good writer in RL, and has kept me laughing at his arrogant postings for a while now.

ooc...another thing I thought would be cool is to meet some of the players in RL, have a few beers or something. I'd drive 500 miles if enough people were interested. Maybe it could grow into a "NationStates Convention", meeting every year somewhere.

I'd like to meet some of my characters....wait a minute...I've already met most of them. Yes, I base my government and major characters on various friends, family, authourity figures. If Amestria and Yallak read this, they might find it interesting that Scott McKelvie (the guy who insulted them at the peace talks) is based on the VP of my high school.

I'd definitely like to meet such fine characters as Joshua Lin, Mark Lorber, Admiral Tucker, and Mar'ki Ticron. All of them have played such a postive role in the development of the Commonwealth. I'd probably shake their hands and buy them a drink, or two or three.

On the other hand, If I met any Amestrian characters...especially Gran, Mustang and Burns..I'd probably by them a drink......of poison.

Interesting idea for a thread.

A couple of my characters are based on people I know, namely Lieutenant President Nicole Lewis (a longtime friend of mine from uni), and Josh Williams (someone I know from a Fleetwood Mac message board we were on). Mark Lorber is basically the mutant bastard mixing of my dad's partner and his younger nephew. Same with a (former) character of mine, Harriet Levine, now known as the Black Queen of Mauiwowee. Jay Tyler is based on a friend of mine from the Internet, but while the character is Sarzo's love interest, the person I based him on is a very dear friend of mine who is like a brother to me.

I'd like to meet Timotaio (Timothy) Ell of Pacitalia, the former King Robert VI (and last I saw, the Duke of Andvari) of the United Kingdom of Isselmere-Nieland (and his wife, the Duchess and former Queen), along with Henry V and his family (especially the gay prince ;)). I'd like to meet Imperator Sarius Publius I of Praetonia and former and current Prime Ministers Lucius Agrippa and Tiberius Polax.

On another note, I've actually talked to the player behind Pacitalia on Skype. Much fun. ;)
Otagia
07-12-2005, 18:22
I'd personally like to meet any member of the Otagian Quetzal family. Firstly, they're loaded, being the chief shareholders in Pale Rider Arms. Secondly, they're based loosely on myself, my family, and my friends (very loosely), so I could probably mooch cash out of them or possibly a job. Of course, I'd have to be rather careful about it, considering that one of them is a highly skilled assassin...

Or I'd like to meet QUETZAL, my AI network in FT. I want my implant, dammit!

I've met Dreadfire. Yes, he's an imposing figure, and worthy of respect.

respect or fear? there's a difference - people who earn "respect" through fear haven't earned respect at all, just fear. As for me, don't actually know who the guy is, but I'd wait till I'd chatted for a bit before deciding what to do.

And I don't care how tough he's supposed to be, if he annoyed me, I'd waste him :)

Like Sarz, Saint Fedski and Otagia, my characters are based on the 'good-and-evil' sides of myself, and on people I know. My Minister of Foreign Affairs is named after a childhood best friend (and based off him). He still is a good friend to this day.

Hmm, not much of a real life basis for my character, Illuminaatrix. Just built him to be as unexepected as possible.

If I ever met him, it wouldn't too much of a problem. He's not neccessarily the meanest guy in the batch, but getting him angry isn't a smart thing to do.

I wouldn't want to meet the Sadist Warriors, however. Being eaten doesn't appeal much to me.

Derek Igomo would just confuse me a think.

Of course very few of you outside of AMW will ahve ever heard of any of them.

Even if that's true, it's ridiculous. I may fear someone but at the same time hate them because of the fact I am made to fear them, which obviously means I have no respect for them if I hate them.

I may respect someone, but not fear them, as I know they are not a scary person, just a person worthy of respect (due to helping so many people for example).

So I stand by what I said. There's a difference between respect and fear. Respect is NOT earned by fear. Only hate.

Ok, this is Damien FUCKING Dreadfire we're talking about here, a guy who I would not be surpried to see taking a shotgun blast to the chest, then proceding to rip off the bodyparts of whoever shot him, then bathe in their blood...

I fear no man, but Damien would definitely have my respect. If you were to meet him, it would be very healthy to fear him...

Yurka
18-12-2005, 13:33
If I met Emperor Drake Yurka and he wasn't surrounded by bodyguards, I'd probably buy him a drink if I had the cash. If not I'd try to talk him into getting me one, then begging him for a cool job. Then we'd get in a fight with some bikers and he'd probably kill them all in a violent fashion, probably with knives. Finally, I'd either have to take the fall or he'd waive diplomatic immunity and get us both out of it. That depends on if he was actually an Emperor and not just some total random badass who knifes people. If I could, I'd also attempt to steal his wallet.
Antanjyl
18-12-2005, 13:58
Eh if I met the God-King of Antanjyl Galf, he'd probably order me impaled on a stake for some random nonsensical reason. Then a few days later I'd die, but he'd probably come over to visit me and ask how I'm doing jokingly. Of course to be polite I would respond, since theres not much else you can do while being impaled.

Looks like it, though I changed my style completely because there aren't enough nations like this around. Oddly enough this got me into a spot in the Toronita RP bordering Torontia. It was a coincidence because I think I was using this a month prior to the breakup thing. I didn't remember Torontia being in the Northwestern United States. Actually, that's not ridiculous. Some parts of jealousy, pride and fear are also respect. You rightfully are afraid of them, yet you acknowledge their presence and power. That's respect, not looking up to them. That's admiralty.

If I met my own President, Kenix Kil, my reaction would probably be along the lines of, "Damn, you are one tall dude." (I'm about 5'6" IRL, he's 6'3".) I can imagine us both sipping glasses of scotch in the Oval Office, despite the fact that I'm underage, and discussing politics.

And as for a NationStates Convention for players to meet IRL, I believe there was a thread about it in General a while back. It sort of died when we were unable to come to a consensus on a location for the U.S. meeting (though Chicago was thrown around a bit). Personally, I'd love to attend such a Convention, but I'd pretty much be unable to if it was anywhere but Chicago, seeing as it would be the difference from taking a train into the city versus taking a flight to another part of the country.

President Kenix Kil

Politicians.....but if he is a good guy, I'll be happy.

Well, Kil is loosely based on my extrapolation of me as a politician (in an ideal world, of course :p), and I am a good guy IRL, so I think you'd be pleased.

Let's see...If I met Tsar Wingert, I'd probably smile politely, shake his hand, and shoot the bastard in the face, screaming "YOU KILLED PUTIN! YOU MOTHERF*CKING BASTARD!"

Derek Morgan, Strathdonia's resident mercenary, would be an interesting fellow to go to war with. I doubt we'd really get along if we just met now, because he strikes me as the type who likes to spend an evening getting drunk and swapping war stories, neither of which I can do just yet!

Louis XX, Nova Gaul/Elkazor created French King, would be someone who I couldn't speak to directly, because the overwhelming amount of pretension and foppishness surrounding him is hilarious. I'd just point and laugh. (And then get executed in a gruesome way, of course)

Ah, and of course, Vladimir Putin. Not the real one, mind you, but the one I created for AMW. We'd probably get along well, seeing as how he's a bit of an idealized version of me (albeit more ruthless than I ever could be), and we both share the same unbeatable determination to do good in a grand way, so we'd probably end up marching off on some crusade.

And the AI, Soter, who runs that same planet? Uhm. It'd probably be like meeting royalty - Soter's very high up in my mind. The CEO of the Tech-Com Corporation is, although a ruthless buisness tyrant, a reasonable man once you get to know him.

If I would ever meet my characters face-to-face, my first reaction would be to panic and scream that I'm not going mad, nope, I'm not seeing imaginary people!

Then I would laugh. My head of state, Queen Elysia, looks just too ridiculous not to laugh at her, with her frilly pink dress and huge amounts of make-up. She is an aged wannabe-temptress who still dresses and acts as she did at the age of twenty. So yes, I would laugh, but then I would run away as fast as possible, for she hides a very cruel, whimsical personality underneath all that fluff.

If I met her son Theseus, on the other hand, I would like to chat with him about his latest plan to poison his mother. If I felt particularly generous that day, maybe I would inform him that he needs to be a bit more creative in his assassination attempts. Even the good old classic food poisoning gets old after seventeen attempts and counting...

Van Luxemburg
21-03-2006, 15:04
Hmm. I wouldn't be too surprised if I met Grand Duke Koen van Luxemburg; I basically just have to look in the mirror. I also won't be surprised if I met Ministry for Foreign Affairs Jens Blom; I took the name from a man that repaired our car during a holiday in Luxembourg, but I don't think he was going to make it as a minister as he was. I therefore only took his name...

Anyways, others would make me kinda scared. I would pinch myself to check I wasn't asleep, and I would then decide to either shake hands and get to know them, or I would run, and far, far away. It just depends on the person, for example, If I met Nicolas Hirtz, I would just get to know him, but I would run if I saw Lord Damien Dreadfire. And really hard, as fast as possible. On the other hand, he might think I'm not dangerous when I stand still. What a dilemma.....

Whose Nicolas Hirtz VL? Is he a character you made or somebody else?

He's my Premier. Member of the Liberal-Democrats (LDG, or Liberaal-Demokratische Group), and elected by late 2005. He is about 35 years old, and is quite popular, but nothing in comparison to the Grand Duke.

If I meet Patron Joseph Stormberg, I would have to prove that I am not racially inferior or a heathen. I figure running would do me no good because of the Death Korps Legionaries guarding him could easly shoot me even if I ran for it.

If I meet Hector Bison, My life would be over he would kill me without hesitation. I could probably confuse him by saying that killing me would be a crime against the Party...

Characters I would most like to meet...

Peter Hobble.. Sporting SuperStar AND a nerd. Also lived an interesting life by temporarily being a Werewolf and a whole lot of other things. He's a good guy and having lived a very interesting life.

Stephen Hawdon.. First Prime Minister of Bazalonia, played a critical part in it's early stages and relations to a number of nations both in regional and international politics. I'd consider him a good guy.

Characters I would freeak out over If I met...

Any of my Miceland characters... Speaking Mice that can do magic... scary.

Characters I don't want to meet or would think are idiots

The Great Lion - Leader of the now dead Atheistic Right. Thinks nothing of death or morality and is dumb as a boot. Not a good combo

That's pretty much it...

Were I to meet Remiel or any of the Primarchs, I think I'd be afraid for my mortal soul. Running might not do any good but it'd be worth a try, followed by extensive decontamination. I'd probably be haunted for the rest of my life, crack and go slightly off the rails, like some walking crazy.

On the other hand if I met Daniel Masaki I would sit and poke him until he got annoyed, then hide. There may be glompage involved too....
