Statement from the Premier
Federative Central Government
Union of Soviet Socialist Republics

For years, the Soviet Union has been denied the pleasure of reading The Economist’s opinion on our fine Motherland. We would be willing to fall under the scrutiny of your writers and publicists by replying (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?p=10036280#post10036280) to us.

Sincerely,
Vladimir Ivanovich Troskin, Ph.D., S.J.D., D.S.Sc.

SIR---

I thank you for your insightful, pleasing, and truthful article on Yaforite politics. The description of our economy was not only completely truthful, it was also not exaggerated. Nonetheless, I have a simple question: where did you reach your figure of "Pacitalian charitable donations make up 71% of a Yaforite's yearly income"? I myself have done some research and cannot understand where you reached this figure. What is your definition of "charitable donations"?

I remain an avid reader of your magazine and am glad that our humble nation at last arrived in it.

SIR---

I was exceedingly disappointed by your article on Yafor 2. Not only was this uninformative and bluntly biased, but it was subtle propoganda for an economic philiosophy which has rarely suceeded, and then, to the benefit of a few, instead of many.

Case and point; you stated that "Yafor's government has no way to provide its citizens with the necessary social programs one would expect out of such drastic monetary revocation". This is a blatant lie. The current [YKMK] government not only provides free college education (that is, education till college) and then provides cheap undergraduate degrees, but the government also provides free healthcare, electricity, heating, and water, all essential services. For a balenced article, you should have not only stated these facts, but at least explained why Yafor 2 has the taxation rate that it does.

However, a balenced article was the furthest thing from your minds. For your interviews, you only interviewed Agustinate of Finance Luciano Abrigo Cannavaro, who is one of a few anti-Yaforite politicians. Why didn't you interview Josain Alanor, or perhaps Timothy Ell? Or even Rudiv Sodo? Is a fair article too much to ask for?

As to the facts which you mentioned...let us not go into those. Who knows where you got those from.

Please note; I look forward to perhaps a balenced article on Yafor 2 next week.

These were only two of millions; the Economist was a very popular magazine in Yafor 2. They were mainly the same, either like the first displayed letter or like the second. The offices of the Economist were flooded and egulfed by this tide of written paper.

SIR--

Your article on a successor to Prime Minister Timothy Ell (A Hard Act To Follow, 5th November) was informative, but your exclusion of equally viable FPD candidates was truly disheartening. For instance, Potenza's mayor, Castel Devante, has no provincial level political experiences, as you yourself mentioned. It's there that I wonder why he was included as a candidate, especially since his bare-bone odds of capturing leadership make him an utterly impossible choice.

There are many leadership contenders with a better chance than Signore Devante and you have somehow forgotten them from your report. Whether it was for length is irrelevant, especially since as I said, any of the candidates I am about to mention would do better in his spot. The fact that Devante was your first subject is astounding.

Visionaries like Gioachino Severo [premerati of Pomentane], Geronimo Ruggeriatino [premerati of Antigonia], Alberto Quinistate [party president for the FPD in Fentomeria], and Maria Contisti Raglia [FPD opposition leader in Meritate] are worthy of mention and you didn't even bat an eye toward them. Your obvious bias towards a close friend of Timothy Ell was very disappointing. Signore Ell has been great for Pacitalia, but there are many in this party that have a different vision of what Pacitalia should be or where we should go. An Ell replica simply will not benefit us.

Polarised on Polax

SIR ---

It pained me to read your assessment (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?p=9958190#post9958190) of a future in the Democratic Imperium of Praetonia in the wake of the split in the Liberal Imperialist Party. We believe it is irresponsible for a publication with a worldwide audience reach such as The Economist to make such grandiose predictions and judgments about possible Praetonian Prime Minister Tiberius Polax without considering just what Liberal Toryism would bring to Praetonia.

It is my considered opinion after careful examination of the two parties that they are remarkably similar in many aspects, with relatively minor differences in terms of direct content of message. Yes, a strengthening of the defence budget would result from a Polax administration. But besides that, the Praetonians would no longer rely so heavily on its navy to be the sole arbiter of its power-projection capabilities, a lesson we in Sarzonia learned quite some time ago.

In addition, we believe that Polax's previous position as Foreign Minister serves him well in his new role as the public face of the decision making process in Praetonia. He has been the public voice of the country long enough to allow him to be judicious about the relative merits of Praetonian influence throughout the international community. While we in our party have originated from the original Liberal Imperialists, we have also reaped the benefit of lessons learned.

We hope that the editorial staff at The Economist would more carefully consider their words about the political atmosphere in other countries before writing their editorials. Otherwise, they could find themselves in the same position as our governments put us: Picking up the pieces.

Sir-

I have only recently become a regular reader of the Economist, and find myself in great admiration of the quality of journalism and analysis displayed in the puiblication, however it would please me to no end to see something in those pages related to the recent outbreak of hostilities between the Grand Duchy of Yafor 2 and the Bold Imperium of the Generic Empire, especially following on the heels of His Majesty, Emperor Kazatmiru's speech and response to the Yaforite declaration.

Yours in Sincerity,
Dr. Sandor Ruyovic

Jagada

Greetings Sir Alberto Stromboli Serra,

Sir, I am Professor Malachi Nara, from the Trinity Empire of Jagada. I am a professor at Jagada's most esteemed education facility--Inn University. It is to say that with the rise of the Trinity Empire that we also were introduced to The Economist, and I must say most of my students have also been introduced via myself and other staff.

What I come to you today to request is if you could prehaps do an article on the Trinity Empire. Most of my students, as well as the university staff and leadership, along with key elements of the government would be very greatful if you would publish an aritcle regarding the recent events in Jagada.

Those events being the recent genocide of the Moslems and following that the 'Red Protest' by Buddist Monks whom burned themselves alive. A grusome ordeal in our country. Though I must say we are not inherently evil, we have been threw a lot we just came out of a civil war in which nuclear weapons were used, and our people were literally cleansed by Fanatics (Fanatics was a secret military project by the former Emperor Remington in which moderates were turned into 'wild-eyed' fanatics to fight in foreign wars) when they rose up in revenge upon the former Religious Imperium.

All I am asking of The Economist is an article regarding your opinions and projected outcome of these events and were you believe the Trinity Empire is headed. Do not worry about censorship or persecution of your readers. While the Trinity Empire has taken brutal steps, Lord Protector York is prehaps one of the kindest men I know, he would not object to any critical articles regarding the Trinity Empire.

If you are not interested, sir, then I fully understand. If you need information feel free to contact me. The University of Inn is located in the City of Inn (a major historic city, more historic than the Captial of Christendom).

Thank you.

Signed,
Professor Malachi Nara

Urgh, since you may have missed this post (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=10295378&postcount=14) in your "The Iceberg That Sank Portland Iron Works" editorial, I'm dragging it over here for you Pacitalia.

OOC: In speaking of elections, when the time comes right Pacitalia, Neo will voluntarily step down at the end of his second term as Prime Minister of the Union of Southeast Asian Nations and here comes a new one....care to document that as soon as the time is right for me?
