Federation of Canada-Quebec vs the Holy Empire of Halopina

Canada-Quebec

The Foreign Ministry of the Federation of Canada-Quebec had decided to write a letter to the capitalist country of the Holy Empire of Halopina in the East Pacific because of its capitalist system and the way it destroys its forests and crushes dissent. Therefore the chief of the Forein Ministry wrote;

"If your nation, the Holy Empire of Halopina, allow for the establishment of a socialist system into your nation or at the very least the end of the big-business economic system within your country, the Federation of Canada-Quebec will have to intervene on behalf of the socialist people within your nation."

------

General Daniel Istaris got on the phone, as President of the Federation of Canada-Quebec he called up two units of ground forces, numbering around 5,000 soldiers to prepare for the upcoming conflict between Halopina and Canada-Quebec. These units would be taken from the Capital City base of Oshno and taken to the border to prepare the invasion. Also six bombers bought from another nation were being loaded with bombs and prepared to be sent out for a bombing run of military targets on the Holapina-Canada-Quebec border.

-----

Foreign Ministry;

To all socialist Nations. Without a response from the nation of Halopina regarding its atrocious environment and social agenda the nation of Canada-Quebec will launch a bombing raid followed by an invasion of the borderlands of Halopina to support the Socialist State Army which is a militant group in Halopina fighting for their rights. We request military aid in equipment and airplanes to assist in this combat. Thank you comrades.

NEWSREPORT

... A declaration of war has been announced by the Federation of Canada-Quebec on the Holy Empire of Halopina because it is a capitalist system that has downtroddened its people left-and-right and the Socialist State Army a militant group which is in the nation has asked for help from other socialist nations because of the oppressive nature of the Halopina nation. Here is a video that was received from the nation of Halopina through the Socialist State Army

Video ... You can see two men tied to chairs being hit in the face and smacked by several men in uniform that look like members of the Halopina nation. The video is narrated by a man who says that the government of Halopina is vicious against its people who have always had a socialist system and ideology but has been forced onto a capitalist system ...

(Video has been made up by Federation of Canada-Quebec)

------------

Three men climbed the ladder and jumped into the bomber plane that had been bought. They strapped themselves in hitting buttons to have a flight-check as they prepared to be one of six bombers taking off to launch an attack against military targets in Halopina.

Soldiers in armour personnel vehicles and tanks were placed along the Halopina border numbering around 7,500 soldiers on the Canada-Quebec side. Hopefully they could take big advantages against the Halopina army when the signal was made to attack.

--------------

Canada-Quebec Foreign Ministry;

"To All Socialist Nations. We request bombers, tanks, personnel vehicles and bullets and guns as well as missles and cruise missile launchers in our war against the capitalist nation of Halopina. As a video taken from Halopina shows, it is an evil capitalist country that needs to be wiped clean of capitalist scum. But let us repeat that we are not fighting the Halopina people but the capitalist scum that have downtroddened the socialist people of Halopina."

The engines fired up and and the six bombers took off from the airbase. They were now headed to the Halopina border where they were going to drop their bombs on military targets.

Soaring past a military unit that was mobilized and heading towards the border the bombers picked up speed not knowing what was going to take place once they got to the border.

----

Halopina-Canada-Quebec border:

The 1st mechinized unit, numbering around 500 soldiers in tanks and armour personnel carriers crossed across the border into Halopina. The declaration of war had been accepted by the Halopina capitalist scum and the army of the Federation of Canada-Quebec was happy to respond. The front line of tanks opened fire with a barrage of shells some going 300 yards into the Halopina border area where suspected army units were.

Another unit, the 3rd Infantry division and the 2nd Artillery division preparedto move into Halopina. The two dozen howitzers opened fire with artillery shells dark plumes of smoke raising from the Halopina side of the border as a second round of artillery shells were fired into the Halopina positions.

The infantry unit, about 750 members, started marching into Halopina from their positions, kevlar helmets and flak jackets on. Preparing to march against any Halopina positions.

The tanks rumbling ahead was a good defense for the infantry men. Machine gun fire could be heard and one Canada-Quebec tank was on fire. However, all the crew members had escaped with only minor injuries. Good sign for things to come.

---------

Halopina:

Six armed men sat in the alleyway near a police station in a small village near the Halopina-Canada-Quebec border. Pulling out assault rifles the men put on ski masks and stormed the police station opening fire on police officers and civilians that sat in the police station. Small arms fire returned against the six armed men, but soon all small arms fire ceased and the men slipped back into the alleyway, none having a scratch.

In the police station, there were some moans from wounded civilians and police officers. The toll was about 5 police officers and civilians dead a untold number wounded.

From the government of West Canada Union

The West Canada government demands that you stand down with your attack upon the nation of Haloponia or else face attack from the West Canada Defense Force. Before we separated, we had to endure the opression of the Canadian government. We don't want another nation to have to endure that.

If you do not desist your attack within 24 hours, we will be forced to invade your nation. Please do not continue, and save both of our nations from war.

The ornate chamber for once its distinguished and noisy history fell silent as President Johannes Augustus took the podium.

"Ladies and gentlemen, fellow representatives and citizens, we have had our share of quarrels in the past. We have bickered and argued, sometimes ferociously, sometimes relentlessly, over the years. Indeed, I see now in this room many individuals whose presence I would not have endured for gold, gems, or anything else.

But that all now is in the past. God, let it remain so. We have all read in the papers about the present war ensuing between the Federation of Canada-Quebec and the Holy Empire of Halopina. We have all seen the signs of war on our television sets. We earnestly have sought the intervention of Almighty God, praying that He might cause this conflict to cease before it began.

Our prayers regrettably have been said in vain. The conflict has not ceased, but even now continues. Good relations between Canada-Quebec and Halopina have not been restored. Peace has not been preserved. This now presents our country with an interesting choice.

The interests of the Federation of Narnia and Archenland in these regions of the world are well documented and of long duration. Many of our citizens are immigrants from these regions, preserving many of their cultural and religious traditions. Our national enterprises have invested heavily in the successful use of these regions' natural resources. We all, I'm sure, recall that we owe so much as a Federal Union to an individual immigrant from those parts.

With these in mind, we might justifiably and reasonably choose to abstain from the conflict, to let matters run their course. War is expensive both in terms of lives and blood, a price that we as a small nation among the nations of the earth can ill-afford to pay. But the deeper bonds of blood and philosophy cry-out for us to intervene, as loudly as Abel's shed blood did so long ago.

Allow me to be direct. The Federation of Canada-Quebec is now presented with two alternatives. It will either withdraw from Halopina, cease all military operations, and submit its disputes to the United Nations for arbitration or it shall have to contend with the five million citizens of a Federation of Narnia and Archenland that is united in the service of a righteous cause and that is allied with the Lord of Hosts, the eternal friend of just causes.

To the President of the Federation of Canada-Quebec: Mr. President, war or peace? The choice is yours."

"That's the word from President Augustus. And, ladies and gentlemen, may I say that the site is awesome. Liberal Democrat, Christian Democrat, Conservative - it doesn't matter political affiliation - they are all standing, applauding this speech from a President who only six months ago was widely seen as a tremendous failure of a leader. Oh Lord, this is incredible."

From Canada-Quebec Foreign Ministry

We do not enjoy the fighting that is going on within the borderlands but we believe that the government of Halopina has given us no choice. The lands of Halopina has always been a socialist nation and has been forced by a capitalist system to convert to capitalism. The Socialist State Army which is a rebel element within Halopina has asked for our assistance. A video that came out should have surely shown you what the government of Halopina was like. I insist that you do not attack my nation but, if you decide too we are prepared to fight.

-----

Border of Halopina-Canada-Quebec:

Machine gun fire began as infantry men began to move deeper into Halopina jumping into the first trenches about two miles within the Halopina country. Several Halopina military units had exchanged gunfire with the Canada-Quebec forces who continued with an artillery and a tank barriage. So far, out of the 2,500 Canada-Quebec soldiers who had invaded Halopina, with tanks and artllery howitzers bombed the Halopina units. The fighting had left six Canada-Quebec tanks, along with 2 howitzers destroyed. The fighting so far had claimed the lives of 27 Canada-Quebec soldiers and an untold number of Halopina soldiers and civilians. 227 Canada-Quebec soldiers had been taken to field hospitals, 26 in critcal condition.

---------

The bombers, all six in formation, began the bombing run on a Halopina town several miles away from the border. It could be clearly seen that there was military equipment there so as they flew 15,000 ft above the town, bombs began to drop onto the town and the surrounding area. Sixty fires began to start as the ground shook and buildings and equipment caught on fire. Flak and missiles exploded around the bombers, but the pilots were able to bypass the flak and missiles and returned to base. (Sixty bombs were dropped) (The death toll can be made by the government of Halopina).

The Federal Ministry of Foreign Relations relates the following communique to the President of the Federation of Canada-Quebec:

"Sir:

As your government refuses to submit this matter to the United Nations for arbitration, the Government of the Federation of Narnia and Archenland has no other recourse. The argument that the United Nations are not a valid vehicle for the arbitration because Canada-Quebec is not a member of the United Nations does not hold water: History and precedent clearly indicates that an arbitrator is a third party, beholden to neither group involved. Therefore, unless your government reconsiders its decision and calls a halt to all military actions directed against the sovereignty of the Holy Empire of Halopnia, within the next twenty-four hours, the Federation of Narnia and Archenland shall consider it to be an effective declaration that a state of war does exist and has existed between the Federation of Narnia and Archenland and the Federation of Canada-Quebec.

The Federal High Command
Location: Undisclosed

"General Fellows, sir," a young aide, dressed trimly in his navy blue uniform, approached, half with hesitation.

"Yes?" The veteran of thirty-five years experience inquired: The deep furrows in his forehead and around his hazel eyes bearing out the truth, he hadn't slept in hours - not since Jack had to make that damned announcement.

"Sir, our Attache at the Ministry of Foreign Relations reports that Canada-Quebec has refused the President's demands---"

"We are to go to Alert Status 2 then," the five-star general interrupted.

"Yes, sir."

The old man only nodded. "Make it so, Mr. Christopher. Move all forces to Alert Status 2."

"Yes, sir. Right away." The young aide replied, snapping a smart salute and turning about.

"And Mr. Chrisopher----"

"Yes, sir?"

"Tell Hal Fletcher to get his task force out to sea as soon as he can. If this whole f***king mess is going to hit the fan, we might as well have our best commander and our best ships en route to the action."

"Yes, sir."

With Christopher's departure, General Fellows fixed his gaze on the gigantic map of Halopina and Canada-Quebec that then being hung on the wall of the High Command. This wasn't how it was supposed to be. After sixteen years of presidential administrations whose titular heads hadn't known how to load a rifle let alone fire one (despite compulsory military training), the people of Narnia and Archenland ("Narnians", as the arrogant northerners usually referred to the whole nation) had elected an administration that knew what it was talking about: They had elected an administration headed by General Fellows' old friend, Capt. Johannes "Hardass Jack" Augustus (FNAS-Ret.). Within a few years, the Narnians were supposed to have one of the best militaries in the world for a country of its size. The Federal Navy - once one of the finest in the world - was to be overhauled and modernized completely. The Federal Army was to be increased in size from five regular (full-time) divisions to seven divisions. The Air Force ... hell? He wouldn't even go there. But because of the political machinations of the Social Democrats and Liberal Democrats in the Chamber of Deputies, their plans - his plans - had been foiled. The Navy was much improved: Once again a top-of-the-line force with two new state-of-the-art aircraft carriers and five new model "Super Dreadnoughts". But the Army was still fairly weak, and the Air Force was abyssmal.

"Well, I guess we're going to have to win this fight with one hand tied behind our backs," He opined quietly to himself.

FSS Invincible
Caspian the Seafarer Naval Base,
Cair Paraveal, Narnia and Archenland

The moon was a serene pale, casting a glorious luminesence over the face of the placid sea.

At anchorage stood the Invincible, the newest aircraft carrier in the Narnian Navy and the focal point of her specialized Rapid Reaction Task Force. From stem to stern, she had what experienced sailors would call "beautiful lines". While your usual aircraft carrier looks like a skateboard with a ungainly cardboard box placed on top, the Invincible was elegant with a compact superstructure and a slender, almost sensuous, prow. There even was a comparatively small portrait of the legendary Queen Swanwhite located on her stern, just below the deck.

On the bridge, Vice Admiral Henry "Hal" Fletcher spent his time scoping out the harbor, chatting with his lieutenant, Captain Darrin Hrncir (who officially speaking was in fact commander of the Invincible, though all those aboard knew better), and drinking bad coffee.

"That's another cup of pure shit, Joe," the Admiral said half-jokingly to the cook as he took a slug of his latest brew.

"Can't help it they don't give me fresh beans, sir."

"Bullshit, I got you a whole bag of beans off the Black Market and you still blew it. Dismissed."

"Yes, sir."

Hrncir chuckled as the poor cook left, departing from the below deck areas. "Took it a little hard on the kid, didn't you Hal?" He said, his narrow pale-pink lips turning up at the sides to form a faint smile.

"Maybe," Fletcher said, as he took another swallow, cringed, and brought the glasses once more to his eyes. He knew he was a bit gruff with poor Joe - the coffee wasn't that bad, really - but he had his reputation to maintain. And as it was said by a wise man, that was the most important thing of all.

"D'ya think we're going to be able to put to sea pretty soon?" The Captain inquired.

"Hope so. But you never know."

The hours wore on it seemed, until they heard a ring on the bridge phone. "Yes," Fletcher heard the orderly pick it up, "right away, sir."

"Admiral Fletcher, sir," the orderly cried, "High Command for you, sir."

Fletcher nodded as he picked up another receiver that was close by him. The conversation was brief because Fletcher returned the receiver to its proper place after but a few seconds. He then paused for a moment, almost as though he was engaged in some extensive soul-searching.

Then taking a third slug of coffee, he declared: "Darrin, you've just got your wish ----"

"What?"

"----We're to put to sea directly."

"Halopina?"

"You got it."

"Signal the Agamemnon. Tell Captain Van Pelt that I have utmost confidence that he and his men will be able to join us at sea within eight hours."

Government of Canada-Quebec:

President General Daniel Istaris looked at the map of Halopina. He was fighting against a capitalist system and now a socialist country was telling him to desist. If that socialist country was socialist in any way it would support the invasion. Since it was probably capitalist scum just like the other allies of Halopina the government of Canada-Quebec was not afraid to fight against them.

Daniel said, "Raise the 5th and 7th infantry units, (2,000) soldiers and send them to the front lines. Have another 150 Socialist State Army men cross the border and attack targets. Begin total mobilization!"

----------

Recruitment centers were set up in the capital city and in other areas. In the first day, 15,000 people volunteered to join the war campaign against Halopina. With 10,000 men along the Halopina border and an army of 30,000 in total, the 15,000 recruits were invaluable. However resources were needed but government run industrial sites had popped up in the capital. They were already in the process of coming out with a new section of tanks and bombers. (20) (5)

---------

Border of Canada-Quebec-Halopina:

Artillery howitzers fired several more rounds of artillery shells into Halopina explosions raising dark black smoke. The town several miles into Halopina was engulfed in a blaze screams of civilians and soldiers as they combatted the fire.

Twenty Canada-Quebec soldiers, from the infantry unit, including Pvt Thomas Mccor, marched closer to the town that was ablaze. Seeing several armed men they opened fire dropping several while several ran away and five more surrendered. Moving near the town, the soldiers could hear tanks move near by, Canada-Quebec tanks as civilians and soldiers from the Halopina army began to surrender in numbers. Taking survivors from the area nearer to the Canada-Quebec border, at least 1,500 civilians and soldiers were now Canada-Quebec prisoners.

----------

Canada-Quebec HQ:

The fighting has ended near the border of Halopina-Canada-Quebec. The fighting has resulted in ten miles being taken by the Canada-Quebec army. Fighting has left 50 soldiers dead and 400 Canada-Quebec soldiers wounded. With 3,000 soldiers already crossing the border, another 7,000 soldiers were on the way.

-------

Halopina:

Socialist State Army members, numbering 30 exchanged gunfire with Halopina soldiers. Two State Army members laid dead, and the others kept firing at the soldiers. They were caught up in a major fire fight with these soldiers. It was unknown how many soldiers were dead, but in the exchange of gunfire several more State Army soldiers dropped dead or wounded (2 dead, 2 injured). Leaving the dead and wounded behind, the State Army began to retreat, two more dropping 1 dead, 1 wounded, before escaping from the battle leaving 5 commrades dead and 3 wounded who were probably be captured by the government of Halopina.

OOC: The Halopina government will have to come up with death tolls for the bombing of the border town, the fighting along the border, the attack on the police station and the fighting in Halopina between the Socialist State Army and the Halopina forces. Death tolls for Halopina soldiers and civilians I mean. 55 Canada-Quebec have been killed so far if you want to use it as a basis.

Invincible Task Force,
Off the Coast of Canada-Quebec

"You'll want to make sure that that fuel convoy gets through to us," Fletcher spoke to a young petty officer in the Invincible's CIC, "the last thing we need is for some of the older ships to run out of fuel while we're out here in the middle of war."

"With all respect, Hal, but with what?" Captain Hrncir interjected.

"What?"

"Hal, we got the Invincible moving into strike position, right?" Fletcher nodded. "And the Agamemnon and the Menelaus are both moving towards the coast to commence coastal bombardent," Hrncir's finger moved along the surface of the map as he said this. "That stretches our destroyers and frigates pretty thin, and ----"

"Meaning that we don't have the resources to protect the fuel convoy."

"No, sir. Damn me if I know they sent us out here on short tack, Hal."

Fletcher's brow suddenly furrowed as his mind rapidly began to consider his options. Then, suddenly he exclaimed, "Show me the latest disposition reports."

"What of our ships or theirs, sir?" The young petty officer asked.

"Theirs." The Admiral replied evenly.

With a quick shuffling of papers, Fletcher soon saw the disposition of every Narnian ship in the theatre of operations. Looking over it for a moment, he quickly reached his decision.

"Okay, we're here - just off the coast, maybe one hundred klicks and closing. The fuel convoy is approaching us from our rear, to the south and west of us, here. Well, Admiral Adama and the Excelsior Task Force are here at the Lone Islands."

"Not fifty klicks off of the fuel convoy's planned route," Hrncir nodded, "but Adama and the Excelsior?"

"She's still a ship of the line, Darrin, and Adama still is one of the best." Hrncir again nodded.

"Ok, Petty Officer," Fletcher announced, "signal the Excelsior Task Force."

"Sir."

"And request that they immediately take action to protect the fuel convoy now approaching us. They oughta be able to catch-up with them with little problem."

"Aye, aye, sir."

"So, what now, Hal?" Hrncir asked in a hushed tone once the Petty Officer had departed, and the two officers stood alone at the center of the CIC.

"Easy. Intelligence reports that the enemy has advanced ten miles into Halopinan territory. I think it's time we trim the grass. Move the Invincible into the wind. Action stations."

Hrncir nodded.

-----

Fifteen minutes later, a whole squadron of Republic F-47 Viper Turbo-Jet Fighter-Bombers were in the air en route for the combat area. At point flew Captain Rick McCown, a young man to command an entire squadron (only 27), but according to all accounts one of the best pilots in the Naval Air Service.

"Okay, boys, form up in combat formation. Markson, you're with me. Our mission is to go in hard and it's to go in fast. It's time to let these bastards know we mean business."

-----

"Fighters away," Hrncir said as he approached Fletcher who was then standing just outside the bridge, the cold sea breeze whipping his face and hair.

"I see that."

"Admiral Adama also has returned our signal. He'll guard the fuel convoy. Says you couldn't through one assignment without him bailing out your ass, anyway."

Fletcher only laughed. It would be his last laugh for awhile. There would be highs and lows in the coming time: He would exult and he would cry. But there wouldn't be time for that colossal belly-laugh of his.

"Darrin," Fletcher finally said, regaining his composure, "get the second squadron in the air. If we're hitting them, we can expect them to hit us."

"Already done, sir."

"Good."

Dick Winters looked outside his cockpit as he and the rest of the FB-22 stealth bombers (27 in all) streaked towards the Canada-Quebec border. All of them were equipped with 1 Rockeye cluster bomb each, originally designed for anti-tank use, but would also work against infantry.

"How far out are we?" Dick asked his wingman.

"Twenty seconds to the border."

Dick nodded.

A short time later, all of the stealth bombers flew over the border, and a few minutes later, came upon the Canada-Quebec troops. It had already been determined that the bombs would be released at a set area, to kill as many Canadian troops as possible. Intelligence showed that about 15,000 troops were on the border.

"Okay, gentlemen, on my mark. Three... Two... One... Release!"

As the bombers released their load, they did a slow wingover to get back into friendly territory. As they flew back, they could feel the shock of the bombs going off. Later, as they flew back across the border, they could see the first elements of West Canada spearheads penetrating the border.

Statement from the Imperial Commonwealth of Malkyer:

This apparently meaningless conflict along our northern border disturbs us. The Federation of Canada-Quebec's groundless and ill-thought war with the nation of Halopina, which to our knowledge have commited no crime nor breached any convention on human rights, has done nothing to endear them to the international community.

The Imperial Commonwealth hereby demands the immediate cessation hostilies by Canada-Quebec against Halopina, and urges the West Canada Union to hold back its forces, so that a peaceful resolution to this conflict, if indeed it is anything more than poorly-concealed imperialism, may be found. The Imperial Commonwealth requests that it be permitted to send peacekeepers to the border regions in order to assure that war does not begin again.

If this advice is not heeded, the Imperial Commonwealth will intervene.

You have been given your chance. I suggest you take it.

Explosions rocked the Canadian lines, damaging several tanks and about a dozen howitzers. Fires burned brightly as men screamed and as commanders got their soldiers ready for the coming Western Canadian Union attack from the ground. The death toll was 69 Canada-Quebec soldiers, and over 400 injured. Soldiers got into their pillbokes and prepared their machine guns. Most were young but they were ready to fight the evil capitalists to the death.

About five miles away, two mechanized divisions and another three infantry units began marching quickly. These 6,000 soldiers if they got close to the fighting they would be able to repel the evil capitalist attack.

We would like to discuss this proposal. We are not an imperialist power, but we would like to hold Peace Talks within your country. If accepted by the other parties, we are prepared to stop the invasion of Halopina, however the Socialist State Army, a militant group within Halopina is not under our control. We can not be held responsible for any actions they take. Will you reply.

Canada-Quebec-Halopina border:

Because the orders hadn't been issued yet to cease fire, Canada-Quebec forces were still locked in battle with units from the Halopina army. Machine gun fire erupted from the Canada-Quebec side of the fighting. Since the fighting had been taking place, over twenty miles of Halopina territory had been taken by Canadian troops. So far, 107 Canadian soldiers had been killed and 678 wounded. 2,000 Halopina soldiers and civilians had been captured and an untold were dead and wounded from the numerous battles.

The orders came in through the headset at HQ, stop fighting, and soldiers took up defensive positions around the mechinzied units.

Dick Winters had just landed at his air force base when he had been told that he was to do another bombing run, but this time all of the bombers would be equipped with JDAMs. Now they were flying back over the border, with orders to drop the JDAMs on any emplacments or artillery they oculd see.

As they did before, they flew over their targets before dropping their bombs, then did a slow wingover before flying back to the border.

Howitzers and artillery pieces returned fire, aiming at the stealth bombers as bombs landed around them. Explosions shook the ground but it was amazing to see that several explosions took place in the air (maybe 2 or 3) and the sound of what seemed to be a falling air plane. If a bomber or two had been hit and was crashing it would go against the agressor and it would also be a big boost for the Canadian forces.

In the last attack, 19 Canadians were killed and 56 wounded!

The Imperial Commonwealth will agree to peace talks within our borders upon the immediate cessation of hostilities by all parties. The FCQ may not directly control the Socialist State Army of Halopina, but such a guerrilla organization cannot survive without the assistance of a foreign power.

Once we recieve confirmation of such a cessation, the Imperial Commonwealth will be more than glad to oversee a peaceful resolution between Canada-Quebec, the West Canada Union, and Halopina.

As Private Tobias Smith crossed the border, he saw the fires from tanks and emplacments that had been earlier bombed. By luck, one of the cluster bombs in the first run had fallen onto a portion of the minefield, cutting a swath of clear area which was wide enough for tanks to cross.

The tanks were supposed to take out the emplacments and artillery left, while the infantry would take out the tanks and infantry. For the tanks, the troops were equipped with XM8s, which were carbines equipped with detachable grenade launchers. It was those that would take out the tanks.

As he and the 80,000 troops and the 1,000 tanks charged towards the enemy lines, firing with everything they had, enemy artillery, emplacements, and tanks exploded all around them. It would be a hard fought battle, but the odds were overwhelmingly in West Canada's favour.

Dear Sirs.

Half an hour ago, a large, military grade explosive device was set off within in downtown Havenon, the second largest city in the Duchy. I must ask you straight: WAS THIS ACTION DIRECTED AGAINST OUR NATION BY YOUR MILITARY OR ESPIONAGE AGENTS? In other words, was this an act of war, terrorism or is this purely internal matter? The casualty rates are estimated to be about 300 civilians dead. Is this blood on your hands>

The Skies Above Canada-Quebec

Captain McCown was at the front of the twenty-one F-47 Fighter-Bombers presently en route to their respective targets in the combat zone.

"Remember, guys, only military targets. Keep civilian casualties as low as you can."

The other twenty planes in the formation duly acknowledged the order.

Thirty minutes later, the high voice of McCown's RIO, Herb Chrebet, rang over the wireless, "We're coming up on targets 667, 726, and 805."

McCown hurriedly looked through the intelligence packet he had. "Okay," he thought, "a key rail connection, a fuel dump, and, and a command-and-control center it looks like." Then, over the wireless, he spoke: "Okay, Blue Wing - Charlie, you head for target 667. Gold Wing - you-guys get 726, Huck. Red Wing, on me. We're hunting generals."

The men of Red Wing laughed. The thought that they'd be able to take-out some official big-wigs appealed to them, even if they weren't Narnian. "Forthwith maintain radio silence. Rendezvous at point 546. Out."

-----

Fifteen minutes later, the night-sky was filled with smoke and fire as all three targets had been destroyed successfully. The Invincible's Fighter-Bombers reassembled and headed back home. They had lost one fighter - Mick from Gold Wing, apparently shot down by an AA battery those f***ers from Intel failed to report. Two others were damaged from shrapnel. "All and all," McCown thought, "not bad, not bad at all."

"This had better be good," Secretary Schmeling complained as he adjusted the few strands of hair that remained atop his balding head and tied the strings of his robe tight. If he had known the hours we're going to be this bad, he cursed to himself, he never would have agreed to replace that infernal bureaucrat Von Kaiser.

"Trust me, sir, it is." A lowly attache reported, as he handed the Secretary the message.

Schemling whipped out his glasses quickly and efficiently, and began to peruse the message. His eyes bulged with surprise. Then, to be sure, he read it again. "This has been confirmed, hasn't it?"

"It has. The boys from the FIS (Federal Intelligence Service) say it's genuine."

Schmeling promptly nodded. Thanking the attache for his services, he then reached for the nearest phone: "Operator, this is Secretary Schmeling. Get me the President."

"Okay, get here as soon as you can. I'll notify and coral the Federal Defense Council and the Cabinet. We have got to take decisive action. This is just the card we were hoping for."

"And----?" The Secretary exclaimed, suggesting as he did the President was forgetting something in his excitement.

"Oh yes, I'll notify General Fellows, tell him to call our forces to cease all operations right away." The President declared, calling himself back to reality for the moment. "This is what we've been waiting for." He said returning to his joyous reverie.

The Intelligence Department of The Gulf States is one of the many nations in Universe 1 with such technology to observe actions of other nations in other universes. However, only The Gulf States puts up internet broadcasts of exploits in other realms.

Back to these three agents, they're standing around the computer monitor and all laughing. Canada in our universe has been known for peace. TGS Canada has been peaceful ever since we defeated Ziotah many decades ago. We maintain great relations with California and Alaska (who control BC and YT, AB disputed). Canadians have always been favouring peace, so we find it funny there's a Canadian aggressivist nation in another realm.

The Federation of Narnia and Archenland formally accepts Malkyer's offer to mediate peace talks as the Federation believes that it is fundamentally in the interests of all that peace be maintained between Halopina and Canada-Quebec. We move, however, that Findan be accorded "observer" status at said negotiations.

Concerning the terms of a conclusive peace, the Federation suggests the following:

1. The Federation of Canada-Quebec withdraws its armed forces to within its original borders, restoring the status quo ante bellum.

2. A commission consisting of emissaries from Malkyer, Findan, West Canada Union, Pulcifer, and Narnia and Archenland shall be convened to review the validity of the claims against Halopina that have been made by the Federation of Canada-Quebec as a formal justification for war.

3. The Imperial Commonwealth of Malkyer and the Imperial Land of Findan jointly equip and oversee a peacekeeping force of 25,000 troops that is to maintain peace and order in a special thirty-mile-wide demilitarized zone that shall separate Canada-Quebec and Halopina for a period of five years.

4. The Federation of Canada-Quebec shall compensate all citizens of Halopina who suffered because the invasion of Halopina, the value of such claims to be reviewed and determined by a special commission consisting of one emissary from each of the following: Malkyer, Findan, West Canada Union, Pulcifer, and Narnia and Archenland.

5. The Federation of Canada-Quebec shall also pay the government of the Holy Empire of Halopina the equivalent of 75 million Narnian thalers ($43,352,601) in direct compensation for the losses in men and equipment suffered over the next ten years.

6. All nations party to the eventual peace agreement between Canada-Quebec and Halopina shall sign a covenant that they shall do their utmost to maintain the peace as established in the terms of the final peace agreement and that they shall, if war starts once more, take direct, forceful action against the aggressor in said conflict.

It is the sincere belief of the Federation that these terms will form the foundation of a lasting and equitable peace between the Federation of Canada-Quebec and the Holy Empire of Halopina.

The Canadian forces had been pushed back from the border of Western Canadian Union, for 25 miles not 40. The fighting had left over 600 Canadian soldiers dead and led to the capture of another 140.

The 6,000 soldiers of the mechanized unit pushed forward against a small Western Union military unit firing machine guns and military shells at the enemy forces. The tanks around three hundred blasted tank shells at any mechanized vehicles or infantry people that was ahead of them. Anger against the nation of Western Canadian Union had risen, with another 20,000 people signing up to join the army in the capital alone. Another 15,000 in the countryside.

Hopefully the 6,000 forces fighting against a smaller military unit or so their scouts said would come out to victory in this small battle to gain momentum in the war.

"You have to remember, they are a relatively new nation. They had 17,000 men defending a 1,000 kilometer long border; that's 17 men every kilometer. They don't have a defense budget, so the two million donated to them probably bought them the artillery and tanks. But still, it wasn't a lot. Viceroy Calls For Peace!

The whole Duchy watched with a mix of Sadness and Pride as Viceroy James assisted with the removal of bodies from the Havenon crater that was formed yesterday. The casualties are now estimated to be at around 1750 dead. The cameras of the PCB were their to catch his Excellency carrying the body of his childhood friend The Duke of Yesek, Tom Winton, from the ruble tears streaming down his face. He then took several minuets to calm down, and then summoned the press for a conference. What follows is part of a speech he made today in front of the burnt husk of Windsor Public School.

"My fellow country men. I had planned to come up here today to denounce the perpetrators and declare war against them. I planned to scream at the Western Canada Union, demand that they take responsibility for their horrible crime. But being here to help, I can no longer justify that quest for vengeance. With the help of the Narnians and the people of Findan, many lives have been saved. For that, they owe our deepest gratitude. But I realized that to cry out for blood, would end up with many more Pulsiferians dead. I made a mistake, ladies and gentlemen. I went to war, not to help out some socialists. Hell, I don't even really like socialists. I went because I felt that it was my duty to help a country that once held Her Majesty as its queen. But Noble platitudes only get you killed, and not even in a Noble way. So I will not let blood follow blood, for blood washes away all sin, and in my sin of Pride, I failed you. We accept the peace branch that has been held out to us. We want peace, and hereby do we claim neutral status in this conflict, and hope that it will end soon. We hope to know Peace. Again I thank those nations who have sent aid, you have saved many, and we would gladly return the favor if such a thing ever comes your way. If you'll excuse me now, there are the dead to bury, and a peace to keep."

The Duchy has since accepted the peace treaty being offered by Malkyer and has sent Duke Leto Harligdon, the Duke of Faustus as its envoy.

The West Canada Union accepts this proposal, and would like to add three amendments:

1. Any withdrawal of West Canada forces from Ontario shall be linked to Canadian withdrawal from Halopina;

2. Pulcifer shall accept that it was not West Canada who had set off the bomb in their nation;

3. Canada shall never again attack a nation without a justifiable casus belli.

The Imperial Commonwealth will support these amendments, with the exception of #2. Our nation is unaware of the details behind this incident, and is thus unwilling to make a decision on the issue.

Foreign Minister Baron Sir Charles Hassahoff said, " Your majesties, it appears the fighting has ended for now."

Everyone in the Cabinet Room breathed a sigh of relief. "Well I guess it's to time to send in the peace keepers."
"Where shall we send them?" asked Marshal Grand Duke Sir Rolad Vin Klieveburg

"For now wend them to Western Canada Union and Pulcifer and if Canada-Quebec agreess with Narnia's treaty sned them there as well."

"Yes your majestey!" said the Marshal as saluted the Emperor.

A captain walked in, "Your majecesties, your excellencies, we have news that Western Canada Union has admended the treaty preposed by Narnia and Archenland."

Today the first shipment of aid supplies for those nations devastated by the recent and brief war started by Canada-Quebec and the terrorist attack in Pulcifer left the port city of Arkia in Haraki, accompanied by the HNS Athena Taskforce which is carrying the marine peacekeepers and engineers to help rebuild after the war. Although the nations involved have not agreed to accept Haraki's help yet, an official statement made by Foreign Minister Jonathan Friedman today divulged that in light of recent events in the area, Haraki has an interest in maintaining a presence in the area regardless, for the benefit of the stability of the region. The HNS Athena is filled with a complete compliment of transport helicopters for the marines, and a full carrier contingent of warplanes.

The supplies headed for Pulcifer are to break off from the convoy in three days to make their way there, complete with medical and construction supplies and doctors to aid those injured by the devastating attack, while the HNS Athena and the heavy cruiser HNS Wolfe shall accompany the rest of the convoys on to the warzones.

Vice-Admiral Al Lambert watched from the bridge of the HNS Athena as the aid convoy to Pulcifer broke off from the long line of transport ships bound for the Empire of Halopina and left to their new escort, the ships from Pulcifer. Lambert sighed, and turned to Captain Joseph Stern of the HNS Athena. "Send a greeting to the admiral from Puclifer thanking him for his aid in the defence of the convoy. Make it informal."

He turned back to look out at the sea stretching out in front of him like a vast plain of water, a line of transport ships stretching away in front of and behind him to the right, and the deck of the aircraft carrier HNS Athena below him. I lvoe this place, he thought to himself. I just hope we don't actually have to fight anyone. The hardest part of this job is sending off young boys to die.

He turned to face another man, shouting to him "Scramble two planes to investigate. Do a flyby and see if you can see any trouble." The man nodded and ran down off the bridge. Four minutes later, two planes were beginning to launch from the flught deck of the HNS Athena.

The Federation of Narnia and Archenland accepts the amendments proposed by the West Canada Union but with the exception of #2. Rather, the Federation moves that a commission consisting of emissaries from the Federation, Findan, Malkyer, Pulcifer, and West Canada Union be convened to investigate the origins of the attack. Should the West Canada Union or any other country found to be responsible, then they should subject to the most stringent of sanctions.

FSS Invincible,
Off the Coast of Canada-Quebec

"Captain!"

"What is it, petty officer?" Captain Hrncir inquired as he choked down a slug of the the Cook's latest pot.

"Distress signal from the HMPS Archangel."

"That's a Pulciferian ship, isn't it?" Hrncir said curiously.

"It is, sir."

"Okay, contact the Rillian. Tell Captain Marcedes to make for the last known coordinates of the Archangel with all speed."

"What's going on, Captain?" Admiral Fletcher inquired, approaching his chief officer and the petty officer quietly.

"The Archangel has gone down----"

"She's a Pulciferian ship, right?"

"Yes, sir, a Super-Dreadnought. Anyway, she was escorting a supply convoy from Haraki and, well, we don't know the hell happened. I was about to dispatch the Rillian to investigate."

Fletcher paused, scratching his chin thoughtfully for a moment. "Good call, Darrin." He said at last, "also send the Latern Waste and the King Cor."

"Three frigates, sir?"

"Yes, three frigates. I don't want my ships getting bushwhacked like the Archangel."

"So," the Captain said, a worried look etched in his pallid face, "y'think there's something up?"

"That, or Mars is playing a damned sick joke on us."

"Aye, aye, sir."

With that, Fletcher turned and headed off for another portion of the CIC. "Oh and Captain," he added hurriedly, "elevate us to Alert Status 3. I don't want us to get bushwacked, either."

-----

FSSRillian,

"Captain Marcedes."

"Yes."

"Message from Admiral Fletcher."

"Yes?"

"We're to proceed to the following coordinates: 108 N 75 W. Apparently to investigate the sinking of a Pulciferian Super-Dreadnought, the Archangel."

Captain Marcedes paused a moment. He was awfully young for a captain - 31 years of age - but political connections work wonders. He was the son of old aristocracy, officially extinct but surviving in their persistent control of patronage through the legislature - elitist, intelligent, self-assured to the point of arrogance. Nothing phased him, generally. But this was serious shit. He wasn't drinking wine and boasting about how he had bested Captain So-So (who by the way was a positive brute) during war maneuvers. He was in the midst of a shooting war.

"Captain?" His XO said worriedly.

"Lay in a course for the coordinates transmitted to us by Admiral Fletcher. I want our active sonar working at 100%. Get the men ready for combat. Action stations."

The XO nodded, and standing erect, he began to bark out the same orders to the CIC personnel: "Lay in a course for 108 N 75 W - all ahead full. Engage the active sonar. Stand ready for----"

"Have any ships been dispatched?" Marcedes asked the petty officer, an edge of anxiety broadening his otherwise polished accent.

"Yes, the Latern Waste and the King Cor."

"Who is to assume overall command once we are on location?"

"Captain Bertrand of the King Cor. He's the senior most officer."

Marcedes sighed with relief.

Aboard IFNS Salamis

Elements of the 3rd Imperial Findanian Fleet had been crusing towards Pulcifer for several days. Everything semed to be going well and for Admiral Viscount Sir Henry Luis Guzman, he was on his way to another Imperial Peacekepping Meal. He won his first IPM during the Catfish Crisis, whilst he was a Commodore. The Doujban(SP) class superdreadnuaghts were the best he ever served on. The Salamis was the pride of the Findanian fleet. Her sleek form was graceful on the water.

An ensign came into the CIC. "Sir!", said the ensign as he saluted Admiral Guzman " A Pulciferian Superdreadnaught has disappeared."

Guzman scrowled "What do you men dissappeared?"

The ensign stammered, "Sh,sh, she sent out a distress signal as she was rezounvouing(sp) with the Hakarian relief force. Her name is was.. umm Archangel, Sir!"

"By the Goddess!" yelled Guzman, " How can she just disappear like that. Lieutenant, sound the alert for battlestations!"

"Aye, aye Admiral!", said the lieutenant "Sound the alert for battlestations!" Klakkons rang out across the enire fleet as men scurried to the thier stations.

Aboard IFNS Winterburg

"Commodore, sir!" said a young ensign, "Admiral Guzman has sounded the alert for battlestations he said that a Pulciferian SD has dissappered."

"Ehou!", said Commordorre Quinn Montgomery, " We had best put some AWACS and soem F-35's in the air to look for this boat."

Five minutes later Twelve F-35's schreed off the deck of Winterburg along with three AWACS.

"This is Commodore Stuart of Her Majesty's Ship Hood II, temporarily under the command of the Pulciferian Navy." He stoped and coughed up blood. "One hour ago we lost contact with the HMPS Daystrom. (1) The proposal issued by the Federation of Narnia and Archenland is intended to serve as an outline for a conclusive peace agreement. It is the sincere opinion of the Federation of Narnia and Archenland that the pending peace conference in Malkyer has some sort of agenda with which our respective nation's diplomatic representatives might work.

(2) The Federation, however, is willing to include a provision in the final peace treaty requiring the eventual withdrawal of the West Canada Union's forces.

Georg Schmeling,
Acting Secretary of State for Foreign Relations

The West Canada Union accepts this proposal, and would like to add three amendments:

1. Any withdrawal of West Canada forces from Ontario shall be linked to Canadian withdrawal from Halopina;

2. Pulcifer shall accept that it was not West Canada who had set off the bomb in their nation;

3. Canada shall never again attack a nation without a justifiable casus belli.

Canada-Quebec Foreign Ministry:

We accept the two articles proposed by Narnia and Archenland except for an amendment of article (2).

The Federation of Narnia and Archenland is willing to permit the continued occupation of all territory presently held by foreign armies, including the 40 kilometers of Canada-Quebec's territory by the Armed Forces of the West Canada and the 20 miles of Halopina held by Canada-Quebec Union until such time as the final peace agreement is concluded. Fine

Revision, once a peace treaty is signed, the forces of Western Canadian Union will withdraw in a specific time period or face sanctions.

We accept article (1) of the Western Canadian Union proposal, but we outright reject the other two proposals.

We also would like to conclude that

(1) The Socialist State Army is only a militant group from Halopina that requested the help of the Canada-Quebec government against its fight against the oppressive Halopina government.

(2) All damages caused by Western Canadian Union will be paid in full to the Federation of Canada-Quebec

(3) Canada and only Canada-Quebec can decide what and when they can declare war against another nation if it is in there interest.

I believe a thread should be made by Malkyer that starts the peace talks. These are only suggestions, the diplomats should go to Malkyer and form a peace treaty. At the current condition Canada-Quebec would not accept any peace deal under these conditions. They need work!

Halopina area:

Several small Canada-Quebec units exchanged fire with Halopina units. Bullets pinged off the ground and off rocks. It was the Halopina army that had started the fighting so it was in its right for the Canadian army to fight back. Machine gun fire was heard in the distance as another unit reported that it was engaging Halopina soldiers.

Several howitzers fired artillery shells at the attacking forces explosions rocking the ground and black smoke raising in the air. Three soldiers were dead and 19 had been brought to field hospitals as government soldiers pushed forward fighting the enemy.

After an hour the heavy fighting ceased and the Canada-Quebec soldiers took up their positions one mile deeper into Halopina. Only four Canadian soldiers laid dead!

---

Canada-Quebec foreign ministry:

The fighting in Halopina did not start with the Canada-Quebec government. The fighting has now ceased resulting in the deaths of several Canadians and several dozen Halopina soldiers. Hopefully this does not disrupt the peace talks that might be held in Malkyer.

Vice-Admiral Lambert listened to the radio signals from the planes sent to observe the incident, and also the radio chatter from the ships dispatched from the other nations.

"This is Red 1, passing over the area. We see a sinking HMPS Archangel, super-dreadnought class. The HMPS Canada has been crippled and immobilized by the attackers. Several Findanese ships are attempting to engage the enemy. Over."

"This is Red 2. Situation looks bad. Over."

"Roger that. This is Captain Stark." Stark looked up at Lambert. "What do we do, sir?"

"Right now, our chief priority is to protect the transports. Recall the convoy headed to rondezvous with the engaged ships, and send the HNS Wolfe to meet them and escort them back to us. We will continue on our course, but keep at least two flights of planes in the sky at all times. We can't afford to be caught off guard, Captain."

Stark nodded, turning back to the radio. "Red 1, you are to report back to the Athena immediately. We're relying on Findanese radio communications to keep us informed from now on."

He switched it to the onboard frequency and shouted into it again. "Red alert, red alert. This is the captain speaking. All hands to battle stations. This is not a drill. Blue Flight, Falcon Flight, report to the main deck and get in your planes. Be prepared to launch and provide cover for the entire convoy, including the rerouted column that is inbound towards us." He turned to Stark. "Sir, it's your decision to recall the convoys and send out the Wolfe."

Stark nodded, taking the radio microphone and turning to the operator. "Put me through to the Pulcifer convoy." The operator nodded and did so. "You are to report back to the main convoy. The HNS Wolfe will be sent out to meet you and escort you back to safety ... Don't argue with me, just follow my orders, Captain."

He turned to Stark. "It's your show from here on, Captain. Your planes are protecting the convoy, your men are our eyes and ears and our best defence."

FSS Invincible,
Off the Coast of Canada-Quebec

"Admiral!!" A petty officer abruptly screamed. "Two other Pulciferian ships have gone down. The Daystrom and Hood II. And another ship, the Canada, presently is under attack."

"What!?!" Admiral Fletcher almost choked on his coffee as he heard it.

"Any reason? Who's responsible?" Captain Hrncir clearly was befuddled by this turn of events.

"No idea, sir. The Findanians were in the area, and from the sounds of their radio traffic it would appear that the ships just exploded."

"Exploded?" Captain Hrncir was puzzled for a moment, then looking at Admiral Fletcher's wrinkled brow, he understood the truth. "Submarines?"

"More than likely." The Admiral declared calmly. Then, reaching for a loud speaker, he began to speak: "Men and women of the FSS Invincible: We have received indications that a flotilla of hostile submarines presently are active in this sector. We believe at least three Pulciferian ships have been sunk already by these submarines. Therefore, we are going to Alert Status 1; since the receipt of reports that a peace conference was under way in Malkyer, we have been hopeful that we'll all be able to go home. But those hopes will have to wait because, as of this moment, we are at war. With whom, we do not know. But we are at war ... To your stations and God bless you all."

"Action Stations," Captain Hrncir commanded as soon as the broadcast was over. "Make ready for anti-submarine warfare. Hurry, hurry."

As all those around him set to their tasks, Admiral Fletcher approached a communications sergeant and quietly ordered: "Notify the Rillian, King Cor, and Latern Waste that we believe submarines are active in their area. I don't want my people going in with their asses hanging out in the breeze."

The communications sergeant nodded.

"Aye, aye, sir."

As his people set to work, Captain Marcedes sighed again. He'd either get a pine box or the Pour Le Merite for this. Halopina:

Fighting was intense as explosions rocked the land as Canada-Quebec forces moved forward. The Canadian forces had increased from 10,000 to 16,000 soldiers as soldiers pushed forward taking 20 extra miles (30 kilometers) from the Halopina forces. Over 60 Canadians had been killed in the fighting along with many Halopina soldiers and civilians in the taking of several villages and a town. Now they were 52 kilometers inside Halopina.

The radio came on:

Stop your advance! Peace talks have started, we do not need these talks disrupted by fighting with the Halopina forces. Cease fighting! And commanders of 1st mechanized division and 4th infantry division report back to the capital.

-------

Once the two commanders reported back to the capital of Canada-Quebec, they were stripped of their ranks and sent to twenty years in prison.

The war had left so far, 2,000 + Canadians dead, a (Canadian) report thinking that at least 10,000 Halopina soldiers+civilians had been killed, and 1,500 + Western Canadian Union forces dead. At least that is what government officials in the Canada-Quebec government said.

30,000 new recruits, moved to the Halopina border. They were to join the 20,000 soldiers that were to begin the fighting again against Halopina. Over 45,000 soldiers were placed on the Western Canadian Union border, and 15,000 soldiers were in Lucida San where they were fighting capitalist rebels of the socialist government of Lucida San.

The mechanized units, moved along slowly behind the infantry units, the 10th, 11th, the 20th and the 22nd infantry units. Overhead, over 15 bombers, most bought over the black market flew overhead. They were headed to the Halopina positions, 55 kilometers deep into Halopina territory and they would bomb the Halopina positions.

An hour later, the fifteen bombers flew over the military units of the Halopina army on the border, the sounds of bombs dropping could be heard and massive explosions rocked the lines of the Halopina army. This was followed by howitzers firing artillery shells onto Halopina soldiers followed by the advance of the 20,000 soldiers with machine gun fire and tank fire.

"Sir!" shouted Captain Stern as he ran into Vice-Admiral Lambert's quarters on the HNS Athena, waving a piece of paper in the air as if it was the solution to all life's problems. Vice-Admiral Lambert flicked on the light and asked a simple question, blinking rapidly:

"What is it?"

"Sir, Canada-Quebec has broken the ceasefire with Halopina. Multiple divisions of troops are being deployed across the front and bombs and artillery have been dropped."

"God damn it," Lambert said matter-of-factly, pulling on his pants. "Send a message to Kiros that we need more help. We can't try and enforce a peace treaty with one carrier and a heavy cruiser. The best we can do is issue a warning, send a flight of bombers, and protect these convoys as they make their way to Halopina. Wake up the marine commander on the transports."

"Already done, sir."

"All right, then scramble a flight of LRFBs."

"Good as done, sir," Stern replied, running out of the room and towards the bridge. Lambert cursed again as he pulled on his jacket and hat and walking out of the room to the bridge. Once he got there he turned to Stern.

"Well?"

"Sir, this is Brigadier-General Thomas Forrester, Marines," Stern said, pointing out a man in marine corps uniform with one star on his shoulder. "Commander of the marines onboard the convoy."

"Sir," Forrester said, saluting Lambert. "I have around fifteen hundred men onboard with a further hundred marine engineers. We can stage a landing on the Canada-Quebec coast but what we'll be able to do is sketchy at best. By rights, we ought to have a full division at least in order to make a viable and especially opposed landing. However, we at least aren't completely powerless on land."

"Onboard the Athena are 96 fully-operational planes in 8 flights," Stern reported. "We have enough planes to stage interdiction and disorganization strikes against the Canada-Quebecois troops, if not enough to actually cause significant troubles to them, and we have enough planes to defend ourselves on the way to Halopinan ports."

Lambert nodded. "Good. Did you submit the request for further forces?"

"I was just about to, sir."

"Never mind, I'll do it," Lambert ordered Stern. "Put me through to the Chief of Staff in Kiros," he ordered the radio operator, sitting down in the admiral's chair.
Malkyer

Due to the near-instantaneous communications possible with modern technology, the Emperor learned of the Federation breach of the cease-fire before his delegate at the peace conference. Calling an emergency session of Parliament, he decided upon the only course of action he could take in the interest of justice.

Only about three-quarters of Parliament was able to meet given the short notice, but that was well above the two-thirds necessary for a quorom. Standing before the people's representatives, Alexei felt as a gladiator in Rome may have once felt. Taking a deep breath, he prepared to make a demand of Parliament that was both politically dangerous and and morally necessary.

Before he began to speak, the Sergeant-at-Arms announced him. Alexei thought that the old custom was rather pointless, but waited patiently anyway.

"All rise, in honor of His Majesty Alexei Saarad the First, Emperor of Malkyer, Viceroy of North America, Duke of Columbia, Lord Protector of the Commonwealth. Long live the Commonwealth!" As the subsequent clapping died down, Alexei began to speak.

"It has often been said that it is the duty of the strong to protect the weak. As a strong nation, it is our moral duty to prevent and cease human suffering wherever possible. The people, of Malkyer and of the world, will not accept less.

"As you are all aware, quite recently the Federation of Canada-Quebec invaded the nation of Halopina, in an unprovoked war of aggression. Armed robbery writ large. The Imperial Commonwealth, through our senior diplomats, has tried its hardest to bring about a peaceful and acceptable end to this conflict. Even now, delegates from every nation involved, and several neutral nations as well, are meeting in this very city to achieve such an end.

"That is why what I must say now is doubly hard. Not three hours ago, the Federation of Canada-Quebec broke the cease-fire, and renewed their invasion of Halopina. As I speak to you now, anywhere between twenty and fifty thousand soldiers are marching against the beleaguered defenders of Halopina. For no cause.

"The Imperial Commonwealth will not accept this. It is a violation of law, of honor, and of justice. We shall act. I come before you, representatives of the people, to announce that a state of war now exists between the Imperial Commonwealth of Malkyer and the government of the Federation of Canada-Quebec. As Ephialtes betrayed his countrymen at Thermopylae, so has the government of Canada-Quebec betrayed its people."

Several jeers interrupted him, but a chorus of support quickly drowned them out.

"I have ordered the Royal Navy to assume an interdict of the Canada-Quebec coastline, though they will not be in place for several days. The Royal Army has mobilized one hundred thousand men, most of whom will be sent to bolster the forces of the West Canadian Union.

"The armies of Canada-Qubec will falter and fail before our legions. They will be burned and shattered, and their military left impotent. In the tradition of our forefathers, I offer to our enemy one chance to reconsider. If they deny us, there will be no quarter given nor asked for. May God favor us."

Every Conservative Parliamentarian stood and clapped furiously, and they were joined by numerous Progressives and Libertarians. Only the Socialists refused to join in.

As the Royal Navy's Fifth Fleet prepared to sail from its home in the Carribbean, three divisions of the Royal Army were being readied for war. Two Armored Cavarly divisions and an Airborne Infantry division had been detailed for the conflict, numbering just over a hundred thousand men, logistics included. A message was dispatch to the West Canadian Union requesting permission to travel over their territory and use their airspace.

"WHAT!?!" Admiral Fletcher almost screamed, a little rivulet of coffee-colored sludge trickling from the edge of his mouth.

"The enemy have recommenced operations against Halopina. From what the FIS and the radio traffic tells me, it sounds like 20,000 to 50,000 men. Howitzer fire. Many casualties."

"They're violating the cease-fire?" Captain Hrncir exclaimed dumbly.

"Apparently," Fletcher replied, whiping the sludge from his chin, "get our birds in the air. Contact home. I want some sort of authorization before I clobber the blackguards!"

"And the Rillian?" Hrncir inquired.

"What about it?"

"The latest radio traffic we have from them says they've made a sonar contact, the submarine we suspect has been attacking the Pulciferian Navy," the communications officer interjected.

"Order them to continue on mission, but be extra careful." Fletcher responded.

"So much for peace," Hrncir observed wrily.

From: Galen Q. Leotardia, 2nd Emperor of Shazbotdom

It has come to the attention of the Pure Socialist Holy Empire of Shazbotdom that the Nation of Canada-Quebec has illegally resumed it's campaign against the Holy Empire of Halopina. With such renewed hostilities from the Natio of Canada-Quebec, we have decided that it in the best interest of the world to begin a counter offensive against Canada-Quebec. It is not up to their nation to dictate internal policies of another nation and we will show them by force if needed.

Ther enow currently exists, a state of war between the Pure Socialist Holy Empire of Shazbotdom and the Nation of Canada-QUebec. Currently the Pure Socialist Holy Empire's 1st HAVOC Naval fleet is en route to an undisclosed location where they will do anything in their power to stop the advance of Canada-Quebec troops. When the time is right, the 3rd and 4th Companies of the Shazbotdom Marine Corps will drop into territory of Canada-Quebec to anniliate their military. Lets all pray for the saftey of innocents and hope that they do not find themselves in the crossfire.

Admiral Yackber paced back and forth on the bridge. This latest transmission from Naval Command was disturbing. His orders were to head toward Nova Scotia. Their target would be Canada-Quebec. He heard that the fleet was gathering back together 300km East of the old State of Florida and then proceeding along the coastline toward the stopping point. The Current orders were to fire over 150 Supersonic Cruise Missiles toward military targets in Canda-Quebec while the Marines were preparing to land via drop pods from orbit.

"Papa," the young boy, dressed in his pajamas and bathrobe, exclaimed, "I'm ready for bed. See all clean." As he spoke, the boy raised his arms and twirled about like a ballerina. "See."

"Oh really?" Jack Augustus replied, feigning disbelief. "Oh yeah! You're ready for bed, are you?"

"HAHAHA!!! Don't Papa - you're tickling me!!!"

"Of course," Augustus declared, as he wrapped in his boy in a playful half-nelson, "because you want to go to bed!!"

"HAHAHAHAHA!!!!" The boy continued laughing. He was having such fun - even if it was bed time. It was so good that his father could have fun with him now and again.

"What's this?" A solemn, but distinctly feminine voice interjected.

"Oh nothing, Mama." The boy replied for his father and for himself.

"Oh that's so. Then why are you in a half-nelson." She returned, her deep blue eyes sparkling incredously.

"Okay, okay," Augustus replied, releasing his son, "I admit it. 'Tis a fair caught. I was -----"

President Augustus never got the opportunity to answer the question as an aide-de-camp suddenly entered the room. "Telephone, Mr. President," he said icily.

"He has that worried look on his face," Augustus thought, "it's not good."

Taking the receiver in hand, Augustus listened as the voice on the other end report in a half-fevered way what had transpired. Gradually, the glow of merriment disappeared from Augustus' face, replaced first by a downward-looking, crestfallen expression, which soon gave way to unbridled rage.

"SHIT!!!" The President of the Federation of Narnia and Archenland screamed, slamming the receiver down. He didn't care his son was standing not five feet away from him, his mother's arms wrapped around his neck, with an extremely worried look on his face.

"What? What is it, Papa?" The boy asked timidly.

Augustus never really answered the question - not directly, anyway. "Those bastards..." he kept repeating, "those bastards ... I can't believe they done it ... I can't believe they done it...We were working on a peace agreement...We were working on a f***ing peace agreement!"

"Admiral Fletcher has requested authorization to resume military operations against Canada-Quebec," the aide-de-camp interjected, unphased by the President's anger. He had been here before with Hardass.

"Tell Fletcher," Augustus replied, trying to regain his composure, "tell Fletcher that he has the full and unconditional authorization of the President of the Federation of Narnia and Archenland to recommence military operations against the Federation of Canada-Quebec in the interest of world peace and national security."

"Yes, sir." The aide-de-camp saluted smartly and departed.

Once the officer had gone, Jack turned to face his wife and son. He heaved a great sigh and explained, an ashamed look on his face: "I'm sorry that I lost my temper there. I shouldn't have lost it like that in front of you ---- no, I shouldn't have lost it all. I'm better than that. But you must understand that these are going to be hard days for me, for you, for us all..."

"That's okay," his son replied sympathetically, wrapping his arms around his father's legs. "I understand."

"I guess this means we won't be able to work on that thesis on election for awhile," his wife answered, a compassionate look on her face. Then, imitating her son, she wrapped her arms around her husband's neck.

"Thank God," Augustus thought as the family stood there, their arms interlocked in a firm embrace. "Thank God - I would be so lost now without them." His family was thinking the exact same thing at that moment.

Lambert set down the radio phone and turned to Stark. "It's decided, then. A full division of marines in what they're calling an 'intervention force' and an air cavalry division will be sent to reinforce us, along with a full naval taskforce. We get a light carrier - the Kite - and a battleship - the Firzha - at the core of it. The Kite won't be able to bring a full contingent of planes because it's also holding a significant portion of the 2nd Cavalry's helicopters."

"Which two divisions, sir?"

"The 1st Marine and 2nd Cavalry. The Jawbreakers and Pointmen."

"What are we supposed to do until then?" Stark asked him.

"First of all, we escort the convoy to safety. That's our top priority. Our second priority is strikes to soften up our landing area and disorganize the opponents. That means logistics and interdiction strikes against the Canada-Quebecois forces."

"Roger that, sir. We've currently two days out from the main Holipinan port."

"Then keep the two flights we already have in the air in the air until we reach safety. Also begin reconnaisance flights over enemy territory. Size up defensive anti-air sights and attempt to disable them near the landing area. Any high-profile command posts your pilots can find are to be desptroyed."

"Yes, sir," Stark replied. He saluted and left the bridge.

Five minutes later, four long-range fighter-bombers were launching to perform reconnaisance flights on the section of coast where the forces were to land.

OOC: Canada-Quebec, can you just tell em what the terrain and such, defensive placements and so on will be like at the landing site? Since I don't know the geography of your nation (Except that it includes Quebec and Ontario) so just pick a good landing site and tell me the terrain for it, plus whatever defense my troops will encounter. Please note that my commanders will be aiming for as unopposed a landing as possible, so the best landing site with the least troops is where they'll be landing.

OOC: Most soldiers are around the border with Western Canadian Union, Halopina, and around the capital.

IC:

Recruitment was was on the rise in the Canada-Quebec area, only 40 kilometers were under Western Canadian Union control. Surprisingly over 100,000 men and boys around 14 had joined up in the past few days. Now nearly 250,000 people over 60,000 soldiers were to be sent to Halopina to join the already 50,000 soldiers making excellent progress against Halopina forces. Another 60,000 soldiers were to go to the Western Canadian Union positions where 45,000 soldiers were stationed. The rest would fan out on the mountainous regions of Ontario to ensure no one would attack the Capital.

Halopina:

The fifteen bombers flew over the retreating Halopina forces and bombed the retreating forces. Explosions rocked the ground, but a lucky ground shot hit a bomber which crashed into a burning ball of flame. Out of the crew of six, four had been killed and two were seriously wounded.

The mechanized and infantry units pushed forward past the burning Halopina vehicles that had been used in the latest fighting. In the newest operation, 153 Canadians had been killed and 700 soldiers had been wounded bringing the total to 2,700 Canadians dead in the war.

Western Canadian Positions:

All Howitzers and mechanized vehicles around the border opened fire upon the Western Canadian Union positions. Explosions rocked the area that was under control of the Western Canadian Union.

Interestingly enough, non of the nations that had now declared war on Canada-Quebec knew that they had mined the Western Canadian Union area with over 50,000 mines.

Lambert watched as the Halopinan shoreline pulled into view and sighed a breath of relief. The convoy full of medical and construction supplies peeled away from the warships and amphibious assault ships, which pulled a sharp elft along the coastline and doubled back towards the Canada-Quebecois border. Lambert turned to Stark. "Aren't those the recon pilots landing now?"

Stark turned to watch the last of the four planes pull to a stop at the end of the carrier's runway, and nodded. "Yes, sir. Looks like it."

Lambert nodded. "Bring them up here. I'd like a first-hand account of how the flight went and what happened. I'll meet them in the Operations Room."

Stark nodded and turned to an officer standing beside them. "Lieutenant, go get the four recon pilots and bring them up to the Ops Room." The lieutenant ndoded and left down the steps.

Lambert took his time before turning and walking back through the door at the back of the bridge, down a flight of stairs and into the room marked Operations Room. In it were maps of the surrounding area, with the convoy route staked out on the wall and maps of the Canada-Quebec coast on the table. The four pilots were standing around in a cluster, talking to each other and pointing at places on the map. They turned when one nudged the others to show Lambert had arrived, and saluted.

"At ease, pilots," Lambert told them. "I just want an honest situation report."

"Well, sir," said the commander of the flight, "It was about as easy as contested recon flights get. We got shot at by anti-aircraft, but troops formations are minimal. I'd say local militia at best. Several larger anti-aircraft positions are nearby, but nothing significant. No SAMs. Ground forces in the area are minimal at best. Sir, if we time this right, I'd say we have a serious shot at a completely unopposed landing."

Lambert nodded. "Any non-bullshit reports to give me?"

One of the other pilots smirked, as the commander bit his lip. "Sir, the landing will be easy. There might be a bit of contest from local militias once we're actually ashore, but especially with air cavalry to land behind and remove enemy positions, I don't think it will be difficult, especially with multiple flights of attack planes bombing the hell out of them before we go in. Also, from the landing site our aircraft are within bombing range of the Canada-Quebec-Halopina lines, and we can hit supply convoys and other targets of opportunity."

Lambert nodded. "Thank you, that is all."

The pilots shuffled out and Stern walked in, raising his eyebrows questioningly. Lambert smiled a small smile. "We're going to wait until we rondezvous with the other force. Then we land nearly unopposed against anti-aircraft positions and local militia. Air cavalry clear the way with raids against what bases they do have, marine landing forces land before the main force does and disable any potential targets before we land. The main divisions land at daybreak, following a night of bombardment."

Stern nodded. "Is that all?"

"Yes. By the way, we meet up with the other force in four days, so be prepared to commence this plan in under a week. In the meantime, launch flights to bomb the Canada-Quebec supply routes and command centres."

Stern saluted and walked out the door. On the flight deck, Blue Flight - twelve fighter-bombers - launched, their destination the front line.

Back to the conference room, observing the events unfolding on Canadian soil in Universe 29....

Canadian Prime Minister John McHenry sits in his chair watching the events unfold, then the room phone goes off: incoming call from 91771-5-307-459-2492 ... the number for President Alex Ortiz, the most important man in all The Gulf States. McHenry puts Ortiz on speakerphone...

Ortiz: Good afternoon Prime Minister.

McHenry: Y buenos tardes a tu, el presidente. [and good afternoon to you, Mr. President]

Ortiz: I'm looking for some support for your nation.

McHenry: How so sir?

Ortiz: Well, some of our guys in the Intelligence Department were f***ing around with the parallel universe monitor. They noticed a war with some upstart nations in the Canadian territories. Universe 29. Some of these countries are committing some fairly horrific atrocities out there. And some of them are also committing to cease-fires. Rather strange huh?

McHenry: Yes, we were alerted by Bristol Hall [TGS Intelligence Dept. Headquarters in Lexington, The Mainland] on this.

Ortiz: OK. Well, we got a problem with prison overcrowding again down in Brasil. There was a revolt in a settlement 75 miles west of Salvador. We took care of it, made it a prison camp. However, we're trying to repatriate some of these guys. They want a homeland independent of Triangle rule.

McHenry: So...

Ortiz: We ship them over on our space crafts. Drop them off on the front lines over in Universe 29. There's a landing strip for interstellar craft 21 miles northeast of Brampton Centre.

McHenry: What does this have to do with me?

Ortiz: You want to throw some prisoners into the battle?

McHenry: Yeah, we can clear out the death row again across all the provinces. Maybe some of the worst life in prisons too. I can get you a force of 1000. They know the area the best. And they probably still have bloodthirst.

Ortiz: Alright. None of these other nations are capable of space travel, they aren't nowhere near as good as us. We're on the original universe. We can do whatever the hell we want and get away with it. Just create your own front, let these guys go nuts. These men we'll send, they are all expendable. Nobody has to know.

McHenry: Sounds decent to me. Just keep checking on that ceasefire, whether or not it's still on.

Ortiz: We've been doing that.

***OOC: This sort of enters us into the situation. We don't officially declare war on anyone, we are just dropping armed convicts and other undesireds in the wilds of south central Ontario, then let them go nuts on all armies. Our arrival is undetected, our armies will not announce themselves as from our country ... for your nations in Universe 29 do not realize we exist. Will we reach any of your armies? That remains to be seen.

The words never left his mouth. The Paratrooper with the silenced gun blew his head off. None of the troops heard it from the barracks. Then, they took the commanders radio, and contacted the bombers.

Captain John O'Hara said "Are you sure we are going to bomb them? Didnt the Emperor say we were allies?" His co-pilot said "These orders are from the Emperor himself. Just do them."

The bombers flew over the Canada-Quebec camp, and the troopers were a bit relaxed because of this. They saw black specs, and they saw nothing else after that.

The Bombs dropped ontime, and the barracks all exploded. Captain O'Hara said over the radio "Good work men." They quickly went to land in a Halopinan airfield.

Lambert watched through binoculars as the second taskforce approached, most other ships dwarfed by the HNS Firzha battleship. It was over 300 metres long, almost large enough to be classified a Dreadnought in Harakian naval terms (Our dreadnoughts start at 350 metres), and sported turrets larger than the Yamato had. It was accompanied by the escort carrier HNS Kite, a Retribution-class carrier, smaller screening ships, and multiple transport and amphibious assault ships.

Lambert breathed a sigh of relief watching these ships pull into formation with them, and radioed over to the bridge of the Firzha. After asking to be patched through to the admiral, he got Rear-Admiral David Arket.

"David," he said, grinning. "It's good to know they sent me a friend."

"Indeed so, Al," Arket responded. "What's the situation?"

"We have a landing zone picked out, and the teams are ready. All we need is to get there. Landing's in two days."

"Roger that," Arket responded.

Meanwhile, six high-altitude carrier-bombers cruised over Canada-Quebecois territory, towards the Halopinan front line, accompanied by six long-range fighter-bombers as escorts. This was Blue Flight, the longest-ranged of the HNS Athena's airplanes, and potentially the most devastating with the least loss of life. As they approached the enemy positions, they fixed onto their targets: Two of them would fire high-altitude, high-payload bombs at what appeared to be a command centre behind the lines, and the other four would branch off and take a detour to a supply centre a short ways away, holding fuel for the invading armies.

Five minutes later, four 2250 kg (Nearly 5000 lbs) bombs were dropped onto the command centre and the positions around it. Eight of the same bombs were dropped onto the supply centre. The fighters dropped two 500 kg (1100 lb) bombs each. The planes turned around, regrouped, and headed back to the HNS Athena for refueling and rearming.

A short distance away, a flight of six long-range fighter-bombers reached the limit of their missiles range away from their target: Loaded with precision-strike Hydra missiles, with a range of 80 km, they each fired two at the airfield basing the Canada-Quebecois bombers that had caused so much trouble for the Halopinans, and peeled off, back to the carrier.

Over the Skies of Canada-Quebec

The twenty remaining fighters-bombers of Captain McCown's squadron moved speedily across the blackened night sky. McCown was at the head of the formation, but he couldn't help but feel a little squeamish this time: He had lost one of his men, Lt. Henry Buckmaster, a good man, the last time they had done this.

"Don't worry, Cappy," his RIO exclaimed, "we'll be alright."

McCown only nodded.

This mission was going to have to go down in the books as a hard one. They were advancing towards three enemy air bases and a few rail bridges, which were heavily defended by AA guns, so FIS said. The planes' armament, however, would limit their maneuverability. Each plane carried at least three bombs, which were to be used to disable the runaway.

"You with me still, Captain Morris?" McCown asked in the radio. The commander of the adjacent formation of twenty-one replied in the affirmative.

McCown smiled. There was good thing at least, he thought. This time, the fighter-bombers of the Invincible Carrier Task Force had the fighter-bombers of the Excelsior Carrier Task Force for support. Thank God that Admiral Adama and his ships had arrived only a few hours ago.

"Cappy," his RIO announced, "we're approaching our targets."

McCown nodded. "Okay," he said, "Targets 626 and 395 belong to the Excelsior's hounds: Rest of you form up and approach Targets 491, 303, 734, and 697. Maintain radio silence until we have commenced the attack. Tally-ho!"

With that, the forty-one planes went their separate ways with the Excelsior's planes breaking north towards two of the three enemy air bases and the Invincible's bearing down for the one remaining base and three critical river crossings. Blue Wing and Gold Wing were assigned the bridges, but Red Wing had the hardest target: the air base.

Last time, the fighters had struck from a relatively high elevation, swooping down like a vulture on its unsuspecting prey. This time, however, tactics were going to be different. The fighter-bombers dropped below the enemy's radar and began weaving their way through the countryside. Since the fighter-bombers were going to be less maneuverable because of their payloads, they were going to have to compensate with the element of surprise.

"T-minus 5 minutes to target," McCown's RIO announced, "4 minutes .... 3 minutes .... 2 minutes .... 1 minute ...."

McCown broke radio silence: "Alright, Red Wing, commence the attack."

Abruptly, the fighter-bombers made an almost dangerously hard turn and pulled back on the stick. As soon as they appeared in the enemy's radar screens, the AA defenses opened fire. The sky filled with reds and greens as tracers flew from the enemy guns as they vainly tried to shoot down the approaching aircraft.

"I have the target in my sights," one of the pilots chimed over the radio, "I'm good." And with a push of the button, he dropped two bombs squarely on the base's second runway. "Breaking left towards the taxiway."

McCown, meanwhile, readied his own payload. "Almost ready, Skipper," he could his RIO exclaiming: "Go!" The two bombs from McCown's plane entered free-fall. Gaining speed when they hit the runway, they made a colossal boom as they tore a great crater in the enemy runway.

A few moments later, half of the planes had emptied their payloads on the enemy's runways and taxiways. The remaining half of the planes were taking care of the control tower, hangers, and fuel storage facilities.

"Listen up," McCown declared over the radio, "let's take drubb a few of these AA guns ... for Buckmaster." All the pilots expressed their agreement.

Attacking an AA position is a dangerous process, particularly when the nature of the country forces one to do so directly. However, it's a tactic the Federal Naval Air Service greatly emphasizes, largely because of the Air Service's approach to sinking enemy ships through the air: While a squadron of fighter-bombers armed with torpedoes move low across the face of the sea towards the enemy vessel, another squadron occupies the enemy AA positions by attacking them directly.

The ride became suddenly bumpy as McCown fixed on an AA gun located on the northside of the second runway. He didn't have any missiles - the usual weapon of choice - but he figured his cannons could do the work. The tracers flashed and exploded all around the outside of his cockpit. But he kept on target and....

BOOM!!!!

"Yeehaw," his RIO yelled with joy, "that mother's ----"

The RIO never got to finish his celebration as a projectile from another enemy AA position hit the rear part of the fighter-bomber cleanly, tearing off nearly the whole back half of the plane. Two other fighters in Red Wing suffered similar fates, but the rest were soon able to escape.

"Corridor," Lt. Frelinghyusen declared, "make for the corridor."

When the fighter-bombers of the Invincible and Excelsior rendezvouzed, everybody could see that losses had been severe. In addition to the two craft that Red Wing had lost, Blue Wing had lost one, Gold Wing two, and the Excelsior's fighters eight. Total casualties then were a horrifying twenty-two souls.

When the planes landed on the flight deck of the Invincible, Lt. Frelinghyusen notified Admiral Fletcher of the losses. The only thing the flag officer could say was "damn."

General Duvalier looked around at the preparations being made for the attack. With over six thousand tanks and artillery, and more coming from allied nations, he knew that when they would hit, they would hit hard.

"General, you've got to look at this."

He turned around and looked at the paper the staffer had given him. It contained reports from Military Intelligence that a minefield consisting of over 50,000 mines had been set in front of them.

He walked over to his telephone and punched in an extension number.

"Get me STRATCOM," he said into the telephone.

Somewhere in Northern British Columbia

As Sargeant Critcher walked around the underground complex, he noticed that his computer was flashing yellow. That could only mean one thing; they had a launch command.

"Guys, we have a launch command," he yelled to the group of 20 or so men around him. The room immediately went into high gear.

"I'm recieving launch codes for the Ion Cannon, sir," a private shouted to the Sargeant.

"Verify."

After a few seconds, he responded, "It's verified. This is genuine."

"Okay then. Start the launch countdown."

------------------------------------------------------------------------

5 minutes later
20 kilometers from STRATCOM

It was quiet in the Northern British Columbia mountains.

Suddenly, a large flash of light emenated from a cleverly disguised missle silo. A casual observer would have seen a missle rocket out of the silo.

But the missle did not carry a nuclear or conventional warhead. It carried something far less conventional.

OOC: Canada Quebec, how in Hell did you lay 50,000 mines in such a short time without us noticing? We do have satellites, you know.

"Grid, Kilo Two-Six is hot to the target."

"Roger that, Kilo Two-Six. Steel Rain Eight-Five, hot to the target. Squad leaders, tight formation. Okay ladies, let's teach these bastards not to fuck with the Commonwealth."

Two flights of B1 bombers flew through the night, over the West Canadian-Federation border, into the occupied zone. Moments later, the target was in range. The planes began to descend, over the forces of Canada-Quebec. With ground forces still two days away by rail, this would be the first strike by the Imperial Commonwealth.

The planes dropped their ordinance, two 500-pound canisters on each plane. After a few seconds of free-fall, chemical agents activated, ignitiing fuel components and melting the canisters. Thousands of white-hot globs of metal rained down on the Canadians as the "smart pigs" melted apart in the low atmosphere. A weapon designed during the Malkyeri Civil War, the Smart Pig was designed to annihilate armor, though it worked just as well against encamped infantry. With luck, the Canadian divisions below would be worth little more than a couple of brigades in the morning...

Their mission completed, the bombers turned and headed back for friendly airspace. Several pilots chuckled at the hapless Canadians. Poor bastards had no idea what they up against.

A Trooper lander landed in an airfield, and unloaded it troops. Ten followed. Its commander was Colonel Heusen. He went to organize his troops, and form a "Base", and establish communication with the West Canadian union. Heusen said to his engineer "Are they up yet?" The Engineer replied "Yes, but they are being blocked off by Canada-Quebecian jammers. The Colonel replied "Eh, we need to have someone ride to the nearest West-Canadian base to inform them, so we can plan a coodirnated strike on the communication jammers.

Trooper Grakk hopped onto the horse packed with emergency supplies, such as a tent, ration packs, bottles of water, and a cooker. It also had a carbine mounted to a strap around the horses neck. He rode off into the forest, and off into the sunset he went.

He reached the West-Canadian base unharmed, and informed the commander of the situation.

Behind Enemy Lines,

When McCown came to, he was hanging in a gigantic oak tree like some sort of fly in a spider's web. His head hurt, and he couldn't see straight, but he had a general idea of what had happened to him. His plane had been shot down, hit by a projectile shot by one of those fucking AA guns. His RIO was dead, he realized, killed in the initial explosion. However, by some miracle, he had survived. Probably pulled the switch for the ejector seat as soon as he felt the jerk: Pilot's instinct, he figured, it probably saved his life.

Of course, right now that really wasn't his main concern. Right now, it was getting free and heading for friendly territory. The West Canadian border couldn't be far, he figured. He could get back in the company of friendlies, then get back to his carrier and his fighters, get a new plane, and blow those fuckers....Ow, his head still ached.

But before he could cut himself loose, he felt the tip of something sharp carress the bottom of his combat boot. He knew what it was, but he still had to look. Standing below him, with mean looks on their faces, there were perhaps five or six enemy soldiers, armed with rifles and bayonets.

"Shit," McCown said to himself, "when it rains, it pours."

Admiral Yackber Paced back and forth as he looked out the different windows of the carriers bridge. It has been over 4 hours since they arrived off the coast of Canada-Quebec. He made sure that they stopped outside of the territorial waters of Canada-Quebec, this was to make sure that they wern't in firing range of any weaponry from Canada-Quebec. The fleet was fully assembled and ready to do his bidding and he was going to make sure that this all went according to plan. He walked over toward the communications consol and just stood there for a few minutes. He then spoke to the officer there issuing one command. "Fire at will."

With that the main guns on the surface fleet opened fire upon any military target they could find along the coastline. Dozens upon dozens of shots were fired in the first minute alone and it would not stop there. Yackber then walked over to the weapons area of the bridge.

Yackber: "I want cruise missiles fired as soon as possible. As many as you can muster." He then tured back to the comm officer. "Tell the rest of the fleet to fire cruise missiles also. Hit military targets and government buildings but not civilian targets. Understood?"

Comm: "Yes, Sir."

Yackber then looked out the window toward the mainland and pondered. Why is this leader doing this shit? Does he not know he is putting the saftey of his people in the wrong hands? He's signing his own death warrant. But as he was thinking collums of smoke appeared before him as cruise missiles were fired out the launchers on the side of the ship. As they streamed toward the shoreline, the radar on the ship counted that a total of 300 were fired with the first wave. I never wanted to do this to another socialist nation, but they put themselves in this position when they attack a nation without probable cause. What they started, we will finish, he thought to himself

"Is the Ion Cannon ready to fire?" Sargeant Critcher asked the private.

"Yes, sir. It's fully charged up."

"Okay, then. I'll guide it." Critcher responded.

He walked over to his computer. A prompt for coordinates popped up, and Critcher typed in the exact position of the minefield. As the globe that was on his screen rotated to that point, Critcher clicked on two specific points with his mouse. These were the known extents of the minefield.

Critcher thought, as he clicked on the Fire button on the desktop, "Those poor Canadian SOBs. They don't know what they are in for."

General Duvalier had waited for this moment to arrive. He knew that this was the first ever time that West Canada had fired a space-based weapon, and he wanted to see it first hand.

"How long until the firing?" he asked an aide beside him.

"Thirty seconds."

"All right, then." All the men had been briefed beforehand, and had taken cover in case of an accident.

It seemed like forever before it started.

It came as a large bolt of yellow light that flashed down upon the southernmost part of the minefield. It then started to quickly shoot northward, heading in that direction for about 10 seconds before shutting itself off.

The explosions from the mines continued along the front line for a few minutes. Finally, they stopped, and Duvalier looked over at the aide.

"How many mines were destroyed?"

"It seems like all of them, sir."

Duvalier smiled. The attack would begin soon enough.

4 miles east of Huntsville, an hour NNE of Barrie, Ontario...

A march of 1000 men, armed and dangerous and moving westward. After an hour and a half on foot in the woods, they stumble into town. No resistance is put up as the men storm the town. Huntsville is taken by surprise with the surprise invasion, surrenders quietly to this unknown occupation force.

The men claim to be a part of a seperatist movement, 14th Eagle, seeking an independent state of Central and Northern Ontario, one that doesn't have to worry about affairs in the Route 401 Regions. All men carry a patch on their right sleeve, a Canadian flag with the number "14" in the middle of the maple leaf, and reversed white and red colours from the original.

"Ladies and gentlemen, the last time I spoke to you it was in a special session before both chambers of the Federal Parliament. There I notified you of my government's intention to intervene in the growing conflict between the Federation of Canada-Quebec and the Holy Empire of Halopina. Since then, much has happened.

After accepting an invitation from the Imperial Commonwealth of Malkyer to host peace talks between the various parties, the Federation of Canada-Quebec refused the peace overtures made by this government and many others, recommencing hostilties against Halopina.

In retaliation, we have conducted and begun numerous military operations with the intent of forcing the government of Canada-Quebec to recommence peace negotiations. Our naval air forces have been conducting periodic attacks against key facilities of Canada-Quebec's armed forces, including command-and-control centres, rail connections, bridges, and airfields. At present, the battleships Agamemnon, Menelaus, Achilles, and Theseus as well as several supporting ships are taking positions off the coast of Canada-Quebec as part of an international quarantine effort.

Yet, as significant as these responses have been, it is my sincere opinion that more is necessary. The Federation of Canada-Quebec presently is confronted with the possibility of armed invasion by no less than three nations, and still it continues its war of aggression. Therefore, I am here to announce that I am invoking the powers accorded to me under Article 3 Sections 3-17 of the War Powers Act and ordering the general mobilization of the Federal Armed Forces. I am also requesting the Federal Parliament immediately approve 2.5 billion thalers in supplemental defense spending.

I promised the world that if Canada-Quebec did not relent in its aggression that they would be confronted by 5 million Narnians and Archenlanders; regrettably, I must follow through on that promise. It has not been an easy decision to make, but then again these have not been easy days for any of us. The conflict between Canada-Quebec and Halopina stirs some of the most powerful emotions of our being, creating disquiet and confusion in many. But it is my opinion that this action is necessary and that it will be taken and that it shall be seen through to the end, so help me God."

"All hands," the Captain of the Agamemnon exclaimed loudly over the ship's intercom, "we are taking up positions within Canada-Quebec's territorial waters as part of any international interdict effort. It is possible that the enemy will respond militarily to this action. See to your duties, and we will see this through. That is all. Good luck and God bless."

With that, the intercom sounded the familar cry, "Action stations."

General Duvalier looked out at the army he was going to throw at the Canadians. He now controlled an army consisting of 825,000 men, 4,025 tanks, 3,022 howitzers, and four armoured divisions.

"Liuetenant, are the howitzers ready?"

"Yes, sir."

"Okay then. I want a 30-minute barrage, no more, no less."

"Alright, sir. I'll give the order."

Several seconds later, the ground on the front lines shook as 3,022 artillery tubes opened fire on the Canadian defenses. Firing at about 5 rounds per minute, this would lay thousands upon thousands of high-explosive shells onto the Canadians.

Captain Andy Hillier strode around the bridge, waiting for the order to carry out the mission he and the other 39 Ticonderoga-class cruisers were waiting for.

"Captain, the howitzer barrage is underway."

The Captain thought about this annoucement, then finally looked back at the officer and said, "All right, then. Start the barrage."

"Yes, sir.

As the order went out, all 39 cruisers opened their VLS tubes. Suddenly, eight Tomahawk cruise missles fired out in succession from the VLS launchers on each cruiser. This made for 312 Tomahawk cruise missles heading straight into Canadian territory.

Scene: MSF Dignity
Throughout the Dignity, hundreds of thousands of Marines prepared to do their duty for the pure Socialist Holy Empire of Shazbotdom. They were being dispatched to stop a warmongering nation. It was up to 1 Star General Dave Leotardia and his team (the 3rd Company, 14th Division), along with other groups, to stop a dictator madman from assaulting another nations soverignty. Dave, the son of the Emperor, had seen many battles in his day and this would be his most glorious. The Marine Corps would show this warmongering nation that they would not step over the Pure Socialist Holy Empire or any other nation in the world.

As Dave walked through the ship, inspecting the drop pods for any issues and making sure that the marines mounted their weapons into the drop pod properly. As he walked out into the hallway, he turned to see Commander Nerid, 2nd in command of the Dignity. Dave nodded his head and continued to walk down the hallway. He wanted to see the latest intel on the latest position of enemy troops in relation to the LZ that had been picked out 2 days prior. He passed many crewmembers of the Dignity and they looked at him in a weird manner as they passed. He knew they were trying to not mess up in front of him as he was the Emperors son, but he would never report them for any discrepincies. He wasn't that type of person and he tried to make that perfectly clear to the rest of the people he served with.

As Dave entered the Intel room, he looked around. The room was about 30 foot wide by 30 foot long and had more than 2 dozen computer terminals and monitors on the walls. The room itself was painted a dark grey, to keep people's eyes focused on the monitors and not what was going on around them. Dave then walked to the far side of the room and looked at the troop movement map. This is amazing. They don't have much defence in their own nation. He then laughed a little bit. They have more than 90% of their troops sitting at the boarder of their surrounding countries. They wouldn't even know if a few million Marines dropped in right outside of their capital city. What the hell was their leader thinking? He then turned toward one of the Intel guys.

Dave: "How is the bombardment of their shoreline and militar assets going?"

Intel Guy: "Not positive yet, Sir." He paused for a few moments. "The USS Shazbot and her taskforce has yet to stop firing. Until they do, we can't get a clear view of the shoreline and military assets through all the smoke and debris."

Dave: "Understood."

Dave then walked out of the Intel room and went back down the cooridoor toward the barraks. He figured that he should get some rest before they dropped into Canada-Quebec for a visit...
