OOC: Okay, this is the main thread for the Mech Tournament. The OOC thread is here (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=453752). The OOC thread that has already been made will be used for any OOC discussion. This will allow us to avoid any OOC clutter in the IC threads.

IC: Orbiting the fourth planet in the Zoidian star system was a Regash class (http://www.b5tech.com/centauri/centauriships/centauricapships/centauribase.jpg) space station. This 4,000 meter station, a joint build between SeaQuest and Planet Zi, the Activision, was to serve as the orbital base of operations for the planned Mech Tournament.

A message was broadcast on all frequencies:

To: All Interested Parties
From: Zoidian Mech Battle Commision

The first international Mech Battle Tournament is soon to start. Feel free to send a representative to this event. This event is almost guaranteed to be a good show.

Another message was sent to all who had signed up to participate in the event. It simply said: "It is time. We await your arraival at the Tournament planet."

On the outskirts of the system (Jumping straight in is liable to get someone shot) two ships materialised, one considerably smaller than the other. As they approached the planet, they were communicating on an open channel and everyone could hear the conversation.

"Look, Shaun, the next time you need an escort stop bloody getting ME to do it! There's a freaking war going on!"

"Alright, Alright, I'll get weapons next time."

"Yeesh. I swear, if I have to go through this one more tim-"

"Well, we're here and it looks like they've got security."

"FINALLY!"

A smallish freighter proceeded to the station, whilst a battlecruiser followed behind it, explained that it had been providing escort services for the team, and proceeded to turn around and head off.

At this point, the freighter hailed the station.

Three Zephym class Light Scout Cruiser's appeared first. They did a quick scan of the system and, agreeing it was safe, messaged the Arivna. Within seconds the massive hulk of the prison 'cube' Arivna came out of the void. She hailed all ships and planets in the system.

This is Admiral Alexi Stanovich, Head Warden of Warshrike prison system Arivna. We are her in regards to the tournament and wish no conflict with any parties located within the system. Of course, team Renegade is here. We will now proceed to scan the arena planet and despatch our team to the local space station for docking. I will accompany them.

Two ships then departed from the cube, one was the Cruiser that would be used in the tourney, the other was a small cruiser fit for 20 men... Namely the warden and his guards. A few other ships, seen as black smudges from the high speed, flew to and around the planet as the larger ships docked with the station. Warden Alexi, used to law and order, opened both ships for inspection by any security teams as required by the standered of the Warshrike empire.

In space a massive Midway Mk. III Megacarrier Folds into the sytem. (http://shimg.163.com/vbspace/voyager/gamebak/wc/wcp_sc/07wcp036.jpg) A remnant of the great Dratherian Republic the ship glides closer to the planet it's new name is Dratheria's Legacy in honor that it is the largest ship known to have survived the war with the GE. The ship's massive bulk was that of a massive fortress carrying a capacity for 600 starfighters, 8 Hercules Landing Craft, and over 100 Mobile Suits. She was also equipped with the deadly Fold Cannon and was designed to be the last defense for the nation. But it had survived and when the Arcorans had disappeared the human crew had been left alone on the ship where they began to collect other human members to start a rogue fleet. So far they had, had a lot of success in their mission calling up powerful beings and warriors from all over the Dratherian Republic. They had a rather large fleet consisting of over 50 starships. The fleet actually kept a base not far from Nephele having moved the base after the war and now it's location was kept secret. The ship began sending out a friendly ID signal stating their business here and their flight plan in orbit around the planet. Aboard an officer known as Lt Nova called ofr all monitering stations to ready themselves for the first fight so they could collect data on everything. Slowly the bays opened up and landing craft came flying down through the atmosphere carrying their precious cargo. Inside the lead ship sat the various soldiers recruited for the cause of the Rogue Fleet originally created by John Mercer. Ten marines from the Blood Ravens stood guard in the ship and all inside were calm as the landing vessel barreled through the atmosphere. Inside the other ships were equipment, spare parts, and of course the Mechs. The ships landed at their base on a small mesa there all tech and equipment were quickly unloaded and the ten Marines followed them into the base Kiltas walked into the lounge in the base and ordered the Marines to leave and do what they will telling them they would not be needed. He walked forward and sat down with Kara close behind him as Lortas secluded himself in the tech labs and hanger preparing the mechs for their first battle. Kiltas spoke then, "So Kara do you think we can win this tournament?" However before she spoke he already knew her answer and said, "It'll be difficult but trust me it will be fun." She was angry now and spoke up, "You know I hate it when you do that. Stay out of my head it gets annoying." She flexed her left arm and a blade shot out and extended to full length. and her combat armor expanded on her right arm as a metallic shield folded out of her right arm. she put on her gold headset and Kiltas laughed saying, "Ok, ok I understand I won't do it again." Kara laughed and said, "Yeah sorry I'm still learning to completely control that. Anyhow with this inhibitor on it should make it very hard for you to get any reading off me." These inhibitors had been built by the Dratherians and were used in their combat helmets to prevent other Psykers from knowing their plans. Before the second Rogue Fleet was created this technology had been integrated into any combat suit for the purpose of fighting beings from the forces of Chaos. Elsewhere on the base Gosconue, Kail, and Lirtas settled in as Kiltas and Kara held each other close in the lounge watching for the new day through the large bay window and simultaneously a thought ran thorugh their heads, Now just to wait for the next battle.

A single ship, emblazoned with the slightly-disturbing, outlandishly large Gadget Corporation Logo (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v649/Ycom/LargeGadgetCorpLogo.png), screamed through the vastness of space while lighting up everything around it with its literal millions of lights, most of which were for show. It spun as it moved, resembling a hover-frisbee disk in both its appearence and flight pattern, for this particular ship was a Vortian Nanosaucer (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v649/Ycom/Ships/VortianNanosaucer.png), a giant, plate-shaped vessel engineered specifically for space combat. Not that this ship would be doing any fighting. No, it was on a single transportation mission, traveling to the Zoidian star system to drop off the members and mechs of the Aeon team. However, no one knew quite why they chose to send this ship, for it was truely immense, measuring over two-thousand meters in diameter, and the team only consisted of three people and four mechs.

They did not ask questions, though, and simply continued towards their destination, which was less than five light minutes away at the moment. They would arrive is about twenty-to-thirty seconds, and the Aeon Team was already in the designated D-Class Freighter in the hangar, which would carry them, and their mechs, to the station, since the Nanosaucer itself couldn't dock at a facility less than twice its size.

The massive Vortian ship stopped close enough to the station so that, if you had a strong pair of binoculars and looked out a window, you could almost see someone looking through a window on the ship. Not quite, but almost.

A large hatchway opened on the bottom of the saucer-vessel, and a tiny (compared to the Nanosaucer), winged, box-like craft, also with the GadgetCorp Logo, popped out, flying closer to the station and sending a communications feed.

"This is the Aeon Team, reporting for the Mech tournament, and requesting permission to dock."

The response was given to all ships requesting docking clearance. Each was directed to either an external docking port or the internal hanger depending on the size of the craft.

An additional message was sent to the Warshrike ship:
Admiral Stanovich, will you require any security personnel to meet your team at the airlock?

This is Warden-Admiral Stanovich. If you wish, send them on down. You do not inspect ships?? Your security is bad, no offense. Our security forces should be able to handle the prisoners... May I ask where your ships quarter's are. We have promised that in return for behaviour they may have free range aboard the space station. Also while we are in the system we will help with all security required.

Team Renegade cam aboard. There was also 18 Praetor guards surrounding them, and leading the group was a man wearing classic earth admiral gear with them. Stanovich. They awaited any Zi security forces or delegates who may of greeted them.

The Hake'll which was the out-ridder, engine and primary crew compartments for the Hake slid into the system around the planet where the tournament was being held. As the Spectral Team resettled, Illiad got on the comm and sent out a message.

This is Spectral Team, requesting permission to dock, land or whatever the heck we're suppose to do.

"You didn't have to be so hostile." Victor commented
"Ya dad." Kip commented, even thought she had no relation to Illiad whatsoever.
"Ya ya ya, see if I repair your mechs the next time you bash them up." He grumbled in a paternal way.

The transport maneuvered into one of the smaller external docking bays, with its crew surprised at the total lack of security and assumption of honesty of the Ziians. They decided to make a practical demonstration of their lack of security measures.

When the docking bays opened, several 'battle droids' marched out, firing their 'blasters' at random objects and causing no damage. As the security forces started to show up, one of them walked through a crane and dispelled the illusion, as the members of Team Resipisco stepped out and scolded the Ziian security forces for their lack of caution. "What if we really had been invaders, huh? Then what would you have done?"

Nine men in gold security uniforms (http://www.ditl.org/Gengrafix/bajoran2.jpg) met them at the air-lock. Five were armed with phaser rifles (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y131/Kvess/Weapons/bajoran-rifle.jpg) while the other four had their phaser pistols (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y131/Kvess/Weapons/bajoran-phaser.jpg) drawn. All had their neural interface devices (http://www.dragonfyredesigns.org/7of9eyepieceth.jpg) in place near their eyes. The one woman there wore a red command uniform (http://www.ditl.org/Gengrafix/bajoran1.jpg) and had her phaser pistol holstered.

She held out her hand and said, "Welcome to the Actavision station. For your inferance of not checking ships, SeaQuest's Liandras do a deep scan on all incoming ships," she pointed at the device next to her left eye, "this allows me access to the station's computer and I am able to see the reports right as they come in," she paused for breath, "I'm Colonel Kira (http://mario.lapam.mo.it/ds9/gifs/kira_2.jpg). I'm in charge around here for the duration of this tournament."

A security ensign pointed at several silvery spheres on the walls.

He said, "Those would have vaporized you, or at least kept you busy. And we have other less obvious methods we could have used. For example, you couldn't invade anything if we increased the gravity in this area. Plus, there are fields around every air lock that would have sounded an alarm if they detected a weapon."

Docking

All ships were given clearance as soon as the Liandras did their scans. This would be automatically down with any future arrivals.

The Hake'll docked with the station and disengorged four passengers.
Victor was wearing a black leather 'pilots' jacket and had his hands stuck in his pockets, a bit of a scowl gracing his face, what the rest of the team would call his public face as he was normally quite sociable.
Sara wore a halter top and pair of pants that complemented her quite nicely, while wearing a casual smile.
Kip, the youngest of the team, was wearing her usual coveralls with a extensive toolkit and a small smudge of grease on one cheek. She looked at the station as if she was itching to tear it apart just to see how it was built.
Last out was the manager Illiad who looked like he had a bar sense and was presently scanning for the nearest bar so he could get a whisky.

"I wonder who and what the welcome party will be like and if there'll be a chance to meet the other pilots?" Sara mused

On the left side of the station side of every air-lock was a map terminal. Technically a commerce station, the Altavista had several different establishments on the Promenades. The nearest Promenade was one level above the one containing the main docks that girdled the station. This Promenade also happened to contain a widely known bar, Ron's Bar & Grill (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y131/Kvess/Rooms/quarks_bar.jpg). Ron (http://www.globalhermit.com/travelogue/vegas/ferengi.jpg), the Ferengi owner of the bar also had a two additional level of holo-suites for the use of paying customers as well as the main bar floor.

"But you really can't expect to try to stop an enemy after docking. What if someone brought a gas-jet weapon? What if the fields were sabotaged? What about EMP? I tell you, there's a way around everything and if you rely on automation too much someday you're going to get into trouble."

The team mechanic continued to argue the point.

"Define Weapon. I could have had something that does not register as a weapon. You're relying a lot on stopping any threat before it gets past the docking bay, and you would be in trouble if anything malfunctioned. Say the gravity's out. Your defence becomes a whole lot less deadly, doesn't it?"

The team captain cut in.

"If this station came under bombardment, these defences and circuitry would probably be shot first, and unless you've got similar stuff everywhere, you get the idea."

Then the engineer reached into his bag and produced a few ceramic nails.

"Here, I thought you might like to have a look at these. Notice that they don't classify as 'weaponry', and did not set off the field. Also," The engineer pulled out a plastic tube, a small tank of compressed air and a number of other bits of paraphernalia. "These are just bits of my portable equipment, but they could be converted into a weapon if I really wanted to. When I was in the engineering corps, we learned that almost anything can be turned into a weapon. You'd best be more careful next time."

A SeaQuestian engineer stuck his head out of a nearby conduit where he was working.

"Excuse me, but I couldn't help but overhearing," he said, "First off all, the computer will react to any weapons that have been programmed into the database, that includes blades. And the current list numbers in the thousands. I should know, I helped install the system.

"As for being able to make 'anything' into a weapon, you would have to be a very good engineer to do that.

"And that comment about too much reliance on automation, that's only the first line of defense. Surely you don't think station security would just be sitting on their hands when the internal defenses went off? Certainly not.

"And before this station could come under bombardment, the enemy would have to handle all four Zoidian fleets plus the ten SeaQuestian Liandras currently in system.

"And all the security personnel are trained to work in micro-gravity environments if necessary, but this station was built with double back-up systems for the convenience of the civilians that call this place home."

"One can never be too careful, though. If you're going to insist on relying on automation, then the least we can do is to upload data on every weapon we've encountered and countless others we've managed to whip up. One thing you might need to watch out for are those one-shot things that people sometimes use to kill someone important before anyone else realises what's happening."

As the four carried off on their way, the engineer could not help but wonder aloud "I do so hope they've done away with those blasted red uniforms. They draw fire like nothing else!"

The airlock let out a hiss of air as it opened, the doors sliding open and the Aeon Team stepping out of the SAVAR, their feet making a dull thud upon the metal floor. At the front of the three was Sarge, imposing as ever and glancing about the facility as if summing it up. Behind and to his right was Deja, looking almost identical to Sarge, except for her slightly more feministic appearence. To her left was the odd member of the group: Tekker, the large, blue G109 Helper who stuck odd like a big, sore, pink thumb. Still, he seemed to be the most nervous of the group, though that wasn't saying much, considering the other two looked entirely confident.

"No," he replied, "I'm the host. I run this joint."
He plopped a small box he had pulled out of the cabinat on the counter and stood up.
"As for price," he grinned with a glint to his eyes, "what ya got? Of course, we have various synthahol and alcohol beverages, replicated or original.
"There's Romulan Ale, Klingon Blood Wine, Whiskey, Mead, Beer, Cardassian Kanar, and various other beverages.
"Then there is food and the various forms of entertainment."
He gestures to indicate the card table and stairs leading to the first holosuite level.

Garek's (http://www.thestartrekcontinuum.com/images/castDS9garek1.jpg) tailor shop was a little ways down and across the Promenade from Ron's first level. He was known as an excellent tailor, and with the many bolts of fabric he kept in stock, he also was able to make any custom outfits his customers requested.

There was also a Bajoran run café on the corner across from Garek's. Various replicators (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y131/Kvess/Equipment/ds9-replicator-ops.jpg) dotted the walls between kiosks and stores. The center of the Promenade corrider was dotted with double-sided couches with potted planets in between them. One of the most frequented locations on the Promenade, was the Bajoran Temple (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y131/Kvess/Rooms/bajoran-temple.jpg). This one was lucky enough to have one of the famous Tears Of The Prophets (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y131/Kvess/Objects/orbtn.jpg), or Orbs, in its casing (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y131/Kvess/Objects/orb-casing.jpg). Garek came over and measured her inseam, height, width, girth, and so on (OOC: I don't really feel like looking all those terms up). He noted each measurement on his PADD.

Putting the tape measure down, he said, "They'll be ready in a couple of hours."

He gave them a half-bow with the clothes he was going to adjust for her on his left arm. He placed them on his work table and picked out the equipment he would need.

As he got to work, he said, "You can either stay and watch, or come back later to pick them up after doing some shopping."

SKAL had gravitated instantly to the nearest bar, that being Ron's Bar and Grill. He was wearing a slate-blue Vehicle Pilot's Uniform, minus the breastplate and helmet. He had brown hair and a Fu Manchu moustache. His face was slightly rounded and slightly pale in colour. His eyes were brown, and he had thin eyebrows.

Approaching the counter, he asked for quite an unusual drink. "My good man, do you serve Spiced Latinium Bloodwine?"

"This Promenade level," he said, "is for warm-blooded, oxygen breathing life-forms. The others are for other types of life-forms, so I would recommend that you not wander into them. Protective gear is not widely available to visitors from docked ships."

Silent bob began, "Okay team I really want to win this thing, we are a new nation up here in space but we will show them our technology is nothing to triffle with, I will be heading to the assembly point and ill relay what is said there to you guys. The rest of you get some R&R you have been training for months non stop and I can see you might need a break."

All in unison, "Aye Admiral!" Happy giggles and hoots are heard from the small team as the rush out into promenade of the station.

Silent bob rubs his forehead softly thinking "Can these little kids really pull a victroy off here"- he lets our a big sigh and begins to follow the arrows.

Meanwhile in space the cloaked object begins extending a small tube towards the Absolution, making contact with it. All those aboard and around the ship oblivious to its presence. (OOC: Something or someone's up to no good here today)

She grabs the water and then shockingly pours it over her head. "Hmm, I don't think you'll really want to make mine complementary... the 'Latinium' is literal."

SKAL proceeded to describe the drink to Ron. "You need to mix equal parts Bloodwine and Latinium, with a heaped teaspoon of chilli powder. You then put it in a good container, at least 4000 degrees Kelvin proofed, and shake well. I reccomend using at least a diamond or better container. Then you need to superheat the mixture to 2000 degrees and keep it there or higher for five minutes. At this point you chuck it in liquid nitrogen and chill it, then pour the drink into a large glass. The interesting thing is that it's non-toxic and non-alcoholic once you're done."

He sighed. He didn't like the idea of consuming latinum, but he knew that the customer was willing to pay.

"It will take some time as I don't happen to have any liquid nitrogen behind the bar. And the replicators won't just make it without the proper security clearance."

Ron pulled out the other ingrediants and left to get a container of liquid nitrogen.

Five minutes later

Ron leaned foward and spoke in an equally soft voice, "The energy source is the easiest part. A SeaQuestian Naquada reactor should be powerful enough, one around the size of a boom-box radio can power an entire ground based outpost. As for this 'omnidium', that may take some time to aquire. As for the light-weight metal," an odd glitter appears in his eyes, "it all depends on what it will be used for. I'll see if I can locate any in-bound shipments of either weapons grade Naquada or Naquadria," he grins, "with the full-size reactor SeaQuestian engineers are building on the third planet, diverting a small amount here shouldn't be a problem. They turned to face each other, their irises changed subtly in colour whilst they engaged in a seemingly normal conversation. It would be unnoticable to anyone not looking for it specifically, as it was a wordless conversation.

"Hey, any idea who we're up against?"
What have you got that laser for?

"I'm pretty sure it's going to be our Dratherian friend over there."
Looks like someone's engaging in a little underhanded business.

IRNS looked at the two, and noticed the field immediately.

"Are you sure?"
What are they talking about?

"Not really. You should probably check with the organisers. They're somewhere in the promenade."
He's trying to get a hold of things to make some sort of starship gun to put in his mech.

"I'll have a look later. What's that you're drinking?"
Should we let the authorities know?

"A Spiced Latinium Bloodwine. Cost me fifteen strips. Bargain, really."
Definitely. I don't want to arouse suspicion, so you go and let the organisers know.

"Aren't those usually a lot more expensive?"
Are you sure they'd care?

"Latinium's pretty easy to come by here. When they make something a currency everyone wants it."
Worth a shot if we can get one of them arrested.

"Huh. I might get myself a few litres to take back."
I'll also need to prepare our mechs to resist their weapon.

"Not a bad idea. I might do the same."
It utilises... Leech Technology, and... Something about 'Breen Energy Dampeners'. They also said something about 'Naquada'.

"Well, I'd best be off. They'll be closing in a bit."
You'd better be taping their conversation.

IRNS stood up and hurried off to the tournament office, looking at his watch.

Lortas responded, "Yes of course this Constable should not be much of a problem. As for the sample yes I have one." After saying this he pulls a small block of a black ceramic from his utility belt. He squezed it as hard as he could and it stood firm. He then dropped it on the counter with a soft clunk. "As you may or may not know as a Space Marine I could tear through some of the strongest metals with only my hands. But as you can see this material counteracts my own strength. Here is your sample do your best to replicate it. Your other stuff seems in order. As for this Constable Odo I can deal with him using my familiars. See an odd thing about all of us Space Marines from the Blood Ravens Legion is that we have a high Psyker rate. Which accounts for my familiars here which will have no problem circumventing these shipments from his sight. As well my expertise as a Techmarine can keep such things from all station records. Lortas looked to the side tracing the laser and he voiced himself through a familiar, "Fools you think I could not see such a thing the Omnissiah granted me sight beyond that of even a normal Space Marine. Because of my implants I can see all spectrums of light and well my Space Marine hearing allows me to hear great distances. And I'm aware my team will be your next opponents, but as it is I am Lortas Isador Techmarine of the Blood Ravens Space Marine Legion and mechanic to Team Hitokiri. Lortas' Psionic announcement fell on a deaf mind, as the mechanoid did not even notice the blaring mental noise that filled the area. SKAL did, however, notice that Lortas could see the beam, so flicked it to a broader sonic version, set to a frequency just inside the upper hearing range of Lortas. The end result for both Lortas and Ron was similar to a rather nasty case of tinnitus.

IRNS arrived at the Tournament offices a moment later, running into CINR as well.

"CINR! What are you doing here?"
Find the local security chief.

"Checking the timetable, what else?"
Why?

"Ah. SKAL thinks we're going up against Dratheria."
There's some Dratherian in the bar trying to get something through illegal means.

"Right, I'll meet you later in the bar then, shall I?"
Getting what?

"I'll let you know."
Naquada.

"See you later then."
I'd better hurry.

CINR decided that the easiest way to attract the attention of security was to make some sort of loud noise or disruption. Moments later, everyone heard a loud explosion throughout the station as CINR played a recording of a 'battlecruiser plasma cannon in atmosphere' in an audio store. At full blast, no less.

Lortas did not even notice the sound as the barrier's strength was intensified the sound could not be heard by either person encompassed in the field. Lortas spoke through a familiar again, "Anyhow this is more a procurement of materials required to build the necessary weapon. There is nothing illegal about it I just wish to keep said weapon a surprise for future fights against other teams. One must always have an ace or two up their sleeve. You take care of your part and I will take care of mine. Such technology will not be illegal to use the weapon itself will be in effect a power disruption weapon. We already use Leech Missiles on our Heavyarms unit this will just be a more mobile form of the technology so it can be used as an ulterior weapon to say the Buster Rifle on the Wing Zero. Ron snorted as he slid the sample of ceramic material under the counter. The replicators behind the bar were only simple food replicators. He would have to use the industrial replicator in the back room. When his hand came back, he had a bottle of Fenrisian Ale. He winced as the Hakurabi monitoring device went sonic, his Ferengi ears were quite sensitive.

"Come back tonight after the bar has closed," he said, "I will know by then if I can replicate more of the sample. In the meantime," he grabbed the largest stine he had and poured the Ale into it, "I'll check to see when the next ship transporting either weapons grade Naquada or Naquadria stops by on its way to the third planet. I'll also have probablly 'aquired' some crates of refined Baakonite by tonight as well."

He looked furtively around, Odo could be anything, anywhere, at anytime. That was the problem with shape-shifters, they were able to hide perfectly in plain sight.

INAS, after running his errands, decided to get to work armouring the Kbots against Dratherian weaponry. In the meantime, modifications to the Elttinwroe were underway, a loud whirr echoing throughout the workshop as the howitzer was removed from the mech, and its two main ammunition bays were taken out. Lowered into its place was a converted D-Gun and two auxilary fusion reactors into what used to hold the ammunition bays. In confined areas a long range howitzer would be of little use.

The Jethros were next to have their armaments reworked, trading in their Surface-to-Air missile launchers for short-range rockets with larger plasma warheads. Compared to the SAMs, they were smaller, solid fuelled, and more powerful. They flew faster and had twice the yield of the SAMs. This was obvious, as they did not require either guidance systems or a steerable propulsion system, so could simply use solid fuel thrusters. This led to a comparative drop in weight and so there were fifteen rockets per launcher as opposed to the six guided missiles.
