----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Life moved along at its usual slow pace, people to'ing and fro'ing about their business, picking up shopping, returning from work, meeting freinds at local cinemas, the general hussle and bussle of daily life...
All of this happened in the Shadow of the DMZ, a DMZ set up a long time ago, many people forget why its there, a long war in a distant memory, a memory that the nation tried in vain to forget.
This Nation was called Krozvakia and was a democratic nation with an excellent record of human rights and civil liberties, people lived in harmony and generaly life was excellent for everyone.
The Nation had an army, it was a well developed army, based around a generic force designed for multiple roles, they policed the DMZ but in most cases it was left unguarded, people hated the DMZ and the reason it was there, a past war best left forgotten, a war that had scared the nation and only now did those wounds heal...
The nation of Krozvakia was bordered with a nation based on the complete opposite of Krozvakia, this was The Kraven Corporation, an evil nation based around War, a nation always fighting a war somewhere, somewhere there were troops pacifying or occupying territories of otherwise peacefull nations, but without war The Kraven Corporation would collapse, its economy and infrastructure would implode and the organisation of the Populace would turn into anarchy, these are the reasons behind this long and forgotten war, It was however well remembered by the Corporation.
The DMZ on both sides was heavily defended, with miles upon miles of trenches, barbed wire and other defenses, Artillery Bunkers bristled with multiple cannons that aimed in the direction of their respective counter parts, security cameras monitored the Krozvakia defenses and pointed towards the defenses of The Corporation expecting an attack, an attack forgotten about and for a war that would not come, from a nation that in everyones minds, Did not exist...
This is where the Saga Begins....
----------------------------------
"Hey Sara, Hows it going?"
"oh, You know, the general drag of life, I've got work in the morning, and I really can't be arsed"
"Heh, So have I, I know the feeling" Mike spoke, these two had been freinds since childhood and had seen the first war for conquest by the Evil Corporation, and had even seen first hand the Dreaded Troops of The Corporation.... The Capitol Police, they both bore scars from their first encounter with a Capitol Police trooper, but with time all scars heal... and with time all things are forgotten
"What you doing today?" Sara spoke
"I was going to the Cinema... fancy comming with me?"
"Yeah, sure... What you planning on seeing?"
"I don't Know" Mike spoke "I'll Decide when we get there"
"heh, Ok cool lets go then"
together they both walked off, the weather here was cool, mild but not unpleasant and harsh like the Kraven lands...

It was a cold morning, mist clouds rolled through the streets of Herstera, the Capitol city of Krozvakia, people were just waking up, preparing to go to work, The Guard on the DMZ began to change rotas, leaving for barracks and taking up watch over the immense barron wastelands that was the DMZ
"Morning!"
The Soldier yawns and stretches his arms out "Hey, Man its been a long night"
"anything Happen?"
"As usual, Nothing, Mist has picked up though its getting harder to see"
"Damn, I bet they will, Sods law"
"heh, Well I hope not, I want to get some sleep"
"Alright, Cya at the end of my shift"
The Guard walked away, heading back to his bunker and his well deserved bunk...
All around the City people were pouring out into the streets, heading to offices, factories, some getting up early to catch the morning trains to workplaces out of the city..
It was all so safe and tranquile...
Kraven DMZ Defense Line
"Forward Units, Left trench 5" Roared a Reichmarshal as Capitol Police troopers ran towards the indicated trench, carrying ammuniton boxes their weapons holstered into their back packs.
"Forward Units, Right Trench 5" the Reichmarshal roared, sending another unit down the opposite trench, This was happening all across the lines, several miles away from the Krozvakia DMZ...
Something was going to happen, Something forgotten that was about to repeat itself...

Shadows and ghosts fill these trenches, I should know as i've lived here long enough. The whole network is a deep scar on our nation, something evil and unholy. I was a child when the first war broke out, the Kraven Corporation took over. They 'categorised' me, like everyone else. I still remember my number.
I try to keep the wind out, but it still chills me to the bone. It brings the dust and soil into the folds of my clothes and refuses to move. The Commissars here treat us well, but the smiles on their faces reek of money. There have been huge pay-rises of late, to try and get more lads to join. No-one enlists though, they remember what happened before.
My shift is over, I stand from my usual spot and stare over the horizon, sheilding my eyes from the sun. It should be snowing this time of year, but there's not a cloud in the sky. I walk along the trench to our Bunker, the grotty concrete tomb that i've spent the past year and a half in, it seems smaller every day. I sit on the cold floor and try to sleep, I can check my gun in the morning.

The Sun was warming the crisp frost that layered the brown earth that was all over the DMZ zone infront of the Kraven lines.
Capitol Police troopers lined the defensive trenches, something was going to happen...
A Oberstadt Kommand Gruppe, Reichmarshal was stood in a Command bunker, his Command detachment were in conference after just receiving orders from The High Command..
"We will receive Reinforcments in two hours, Once they have arrived and been deployed, We are ordered to begin the advance, The Corporation is going to make another attempt at Occupying Krozvakia"
"Didn't we Fail before?" asked another Reichmarshal, A third Commander, lower rank than the Sector Reichmarshal...
"Yes, This time however we have the element of surprise, they won't be expecting an attack, we've left them alone for so long now, they've probably forgotten what they are defending against..."
"What are our plans?"
"Send out several Units to test their defenses, see if their still awake, If we get reports of heavy resistance, or major defense networks, then we will step up the advance, The Difference between then and now is We have Sardaukar Phase 4's a Technology not available to us back then..." The Reichmarshal spoke while tapping a map at the location of the Krozvakia DMZ "We'll you have your orders, Return to your sector bunkers, and await for the reinforcements, and our signal to advance"
"As you wish Reichmarshal"
With that the Command Detachment left the bunker, returning through the trench network back towards their respective bunkers...

Winter hit us like a ton of bricks last night, we woke up to a foot of snow. It took us an hour to get up and moving this morning, huddled in our bunker with a lukewarm ration of soup between us. I pick up my rifle and start my patrol, taking a box of bullets as I leave the concrete coffin.
I start to walk along the trench, and a sharp buzz comes through the radio. There's a crackle, and then a voice. Its John, one of my platoon. We're all in platoons, roughly divided and poorly assembled its around twenty men to a bunker. John wants me to check out the '88s.
The grey barrels are visible above the trenches, all four of our '88s in this platoon rise above the snow. The pinnacle of engineering, they call them. Proves what a state we're in then, doesn't it. Rumours reach us from accross the DMZ of super soldiers, of unstoppable gasses and weapons that'll strike you dead from over five hundred yards. There's got to be truth in some of it, the less the better.
Glad I'm not on the front lines, we're in the third trench system back. If there is a war, well... we can only hope that the peace holds them back. I give the '88s a quick look over, they look in decent shape to me. I'm no mechanic, but I'm sure that so much rust would get in the way.
Still, I radio in the 'All-Fine', and head back. I stop at a different bunker to get some food, and then start to walk to Bunker 92, my home. My CB radio picks up the highlights of today; Thompson was killed by an unexploded mine, Whittens broke his wrist on the ice and my friend George shot himself in the foot. People leave this army faster than they arrive.

The Snowfall had hit last night, The Corporation was used to it, The Capitol Police barely noticed, they functioned as normal, only the gentle wisps of condensation from their Gas masks, showing any difference in the cold air...
each of these red eyed troopers watched the DMZ with out care, they were performing their orders and regardless of what was out there, they continued.
Reichmarshals however were aware of the cold morning, they wore heavy leather trench coats, and leather gloves, they walked up and down the snow encrusted trenches, waiting for the order to come through and begin the attack...
It came Through...
The Order to attack was given at 6:30 am.
The Right flank began the attack, Reichmarshals placing their foot against the Trench ladder, holding their Corporate Side Arm in the air, the surveyed the Capitol Police who followed suit preparing to advance, The Reichmarshal pulled out his Command Whistle, it was easier to communicate between bunkers rather than using the Command relay, in early mornings such as this the Command Relay could be unreliable, Since the attack against the Kraven Communications Network by the AKA, the Command Relay has been plauged with problems, forcing the Military to revert to more conventional methods,
In The Distance a whistle was heard, Followed by another, closer, then another closer still, until the trench next to them sounded their call...
Then The Reichmarshal sounded his, Instantly each Capitol Police trooper vaulted up the ladder, each of their black jack boots impacting into the fresh snow above the Trench, their silent advance into the DMZ, there was no War cry, no cry of jubilation at the final attack, just a silent, relentless march towards the enemy bunker system...
History had began to Repeat itself.

News from back home is bad, it seems that contact with the Kraven Corporation has deteriorated. Higher-Ups are edgy, and it seems that someone finally got up of his arse and redesigned our defence in this area. Several someones, by the looks of it, as there have been more changes today than I've seen all year.
First of all, we've got two more '88s. New ones, too, and a guy called Wilson who knows how to work the bloody things. Nice lad, was able to give him a box a bullets for a few ciggarettes. He don't smoke, and I don't shoot so it's a fair arrangement really.
We've also got a couple of tanks from 283rd Platoon to the north, and the cargo planes dropped tank traps in between the first and second lines. We've got a few more machine guns and a fresh supply of ammunition, as well as thirty-something new men in the Platoon.
There seems to be a fog settling, and the sky has darkened since this morning. Jackson reported movement on the horizon about an hour ago, but we sure as hell ain't going out there and told him to pipe down. Now we're playing cards in the Bunker, all our radio's off because Louis is a slippery bastard and makes things move when your back is turned.
Still, there's something unnerving about all this, and theres news from the north that a patrol has gone missing, and I can't seem to find Rogers and Davison anywhere. Something's happening that shouldn't be, but it somehow seems strangely familiar.

"Ready!" Roared the Gunner Commanders, the massive 195mm Artillery Cannons prep'ed to Fire, Capitol Police troopers slid shells into the breaches and closed them shut,
"Co-ordinates, 99,99 53 53"
The Capitol Police gunners altered the gunners trajectory to aim at the First bunker line,
then in unsion each Gunner Command looked at the time keeping device on the wall of every bunker, allowing them to time their bombardment perfectly,
6:45...
6:46...
6:47...
6:48...
6:49...
6:50...."Fire!"
The Quiet of the early morning, was broken by the roar of multiple guns as every atillery peice opened fire, hundereds of shells were lobbed into the air of the morning, screaming towards their targets...
"Fire!"
The Orders came again, and the Line fired once more, Shells being launched towards the Enemy bunker line... a Firestorm was about to be created..
"Load Shell alpha 55"
The Capitol Police silently reloaded the Cannons with Napalm shells, instantly the breach was shut and the Cannons were ready to be sent to its targets...
"Fire!"
The Cannons fired once more, sending a wave of deadly napalm shells towards their targets, Frightening weapons of war designed to break the moral of soldiers, and flush them out of their bunkers, turning the inside into a Concrete oven....
Air Field, 88 Kravonika
Bombers of the 8th Air Wing manovered across the runway preparing to begin the attack, the attack was going to co-incide with the attack on the DMZ line, crippling not only the moral of the defending troops, but also those of the Citizens who were being attacked...
within minutes the first wave was air borne, massive engines powering them into the air, carrying their deadly cargo, designed to kill,
Each Plane loaded with 2,500lbs bombs, 10 in total, the bombs were HE phosphorus designed to create a firestorm within the cities, creating horrific damage and further damaging the moral of those inside, It would be a crippleing blow and allow the Corporation to sweep into the Country unapposed...

I was out on early morning patrol when a sudden crack filled the air and the sky turned to fire. I don't know what happened after that, but i remember the ground exploding in front of me and waking up on a stretcher. They gave me a look-over and now I'm back in the bunker, listening to some big-mouthed Commissar fill us in.
Fires from a napalm attack have been raging all day, they haven't begun adding up the dead yet. Simon reckons it's thirty to forty something in our platoon, but it's our left flank that's been hit the worst. We had it easy compared to those poor sods, the bunkers are burning and half of the trenches have collapsed.
I somehow managed to hold onto my rifle since this morning, and I'm just going through a quick check now. All sorts of grit and slime in the barrel, but I'm sure a good clean will fix the thing.
I hear raised voices from outside, and the muffled report from one of our '88s. Either enemy troops are in range or someone has figured out how to point them upwards. Aircraft have been going over our heads all day, and I'm fearing for the safety of everyone back home.
The decleration of war was on the radion a few hours ago, I caught the last couple of minutes. Politicians are playing the tough-guy, but they're all shitting bricks. They should try a day in our lives, living in the shadow of enemy bombers and praying that you don't get hit by artillery.

The Bombers had been air borne for a while now when the first of the shells rippled across the DMZ, bright plumes of flame balling up into the sky in a cataclysmic fury of fire, raining down shrapnel and mud...
The Capitol police Crewmen flying the bombers continued towards their course, while below another volly of shells hammered the line, shreading defenses and flesh..
Thump... a shell exploded in an immense fireball that carpeted the area in flames... A Napalm shell, deadly against entrenched forces...
Soon the shelling below disappeared in the distance as the first City came into veiw, the craft at high altitude prepared for the attack run, moving into an attack formation, maximum coverage for maximum damage, each bomber was expertly moved into place and soon were ready to begin the bombing run...
Below Air Raid sirens that had not sounded for years slowly whined into life, as the Bombers began to appear above the city...
suddenly, the bombers began to deploy their payload, bombs shrieked through the air towards their targets as the huge napalm bombs rained down and exploding below...
The War had begun, not only at the DMZ but now at the innocent Cities that lay in the distance...

The General looked over the assembled ground commadners who would be helping Krozvakia against Kraven.
"The reason we are here is simple, earlier today The Kraven Corporation launched an unprovoked attack on the nation of Krozvakia, casualties are believed to be high, we are going to stop them."
The General leaned over to the intercom and said "Helmsman, alter course to 250 and come to flank speed"
"Sir"
The Carrier group wheeled onto its new heading and was going to start landing troops in Krozvakia to help repel the invasion by the forces of the Evil Corporation
"Gentleman the plan is simple, we will...."

I've lost all sense of time lately, but at least I know what's going on around here. Kraven soldiers have been spotted not a mile from our left flank, so a few Lieutennants are tryign to organise a flanking manouvre using armour from our right. If the boys up there can hold them, then they should hopefully be intercepted and destroyed in the pincer movement.
I look to the sky; above the explosions and below the bombers I see the flash of artillery fire. Our artillery fire, that means that the First Line must have a visual on the enemy. Spotters' reports are all over the place, but it seems to be the left flank which will be under the hammer when it falls.
We've got the fires under control over here, but reports from elsewhere aren't so good. Napalm is nasty stuff, they say. I hope I only have to take their word for it. Now I'm checking my rifle again, its an ever present habbit and just distracts me from the fear of this hell. It's quite a new one, not sure of the make but its fully automatic. Nice and accurate too, apparrenty.
I'm interrupted by a burst of static, and then an order from Clide, my Sergeat.
"[Static]... It's John, he's hit b[Static]ell, get a stretcher [Static] Section 8."
I grab a stretcher from the shelf and run, making my way to Section 8 of our trench. I keep my head down, there's been very little shooting so far but I don't plan on taking chances.
The stench hits be before I even round the corner, burning flesh. Three men are crowded around the fourth, poor guy could have just been on the end of a lightning rod. Turns out he was on the wrong end of a shell, caliber unknown. He was lucky to survive, but I doubt he'll make it. I try to avert my eyes, but I'm helpless to stare at the wounds. He's covered in blood, with burns on is chest and face. An arm is missing, and the shrapnel has cut right through his body armour. i pocketed his ciggarettes, you're not allowed to smoke in the Feild Hospital anyway.

The enemy artillery rippled across the pock marked fields of the DMZ, mud and water were lifted into the air along with shrapnel and plumes of fire from the Krozvakia artillery...
Thump... another shell exploded with a fire ball, Capitol Police soldiers were thrown around like rag dolls, the mist permiated by the flames of multiple shells..
The Kraven Artillery opened fire once more, their massive cannons launching their salvo high into the air, before Crashing down into the Artillery of Krozvakia...
Capitol police troopers were now in range.. Thier Black armoured jack boots smashing into the mud and slurry, their Imperial Raven made GPMG's opened fire, a new generation of weaponry, more accurate and upto date then their previous Counter part the MG45 Corporate GPMG...
The Capitol Police advanced without fear of the enemy, they understood their orders and carried them out without question.... advancing further and further, their red glowing Optical mags peircing the mist with freightening imagry...
The Squad advanced, moving uptowards a Tank trap, each trooper placed one knee into the ground with force, their armoured knee pads getting a firm grip in the mud as Each trooper placed their GPMG against the Trap for a stable firing base, using their Smart links to target the enemy entrenched ahead... ammunition casings flew out left and right from the exit port as each round was sent flying to its target in a deadly trace....
The Noise of battle was horrific, the Capitol Police troopers ignored it, it was background to them... It was part of war... It was what they were Bred For.....
This was their Lives....
