Lord-and-Master of Gronde meets Kaymiril's Valsharess

The sun rose over central Kaymiril, lighting the spires of the Valshanth. The Kaymirilian palace was already in motion, and had been for hours.
One of the most prestigious foreign leaders that had ever requested to step onto Kaymirilian soil was due to land in only a few hours.
The Honor Guard and transportation were en route to the rendez-vous point, where Lord-and-Master Kalgar of Gronde was to land. Visitors from space had become more frequent, but normally they were representatives of nations desiring trade through the International Trade Hub, or from nations that they already had diplomatic ties with, such as Snake Eaters and Balrogga.
Valsharess Kaymiril VII was taking this time to tell the servants to take care of her ten-year old son, Iral, and to instruct her daughter, Aris, in how to greet a foreign minister.
The young Qu'essan would be the one to greet the Grondian ruler at the entrance to the Valshanth, lead him to the Valsharess, and then retire to help look after her brother.
Aris, for her part, was nervous. What if she messed up? What if he felt insulted that a child had been sent to greet him? What if her Common wasn't good enough? What if...worst of all...her father was walking the same corridor at the time? Aris had no doubts that her mother could repair any damage she herself might do accidentally...but her father...her father had angered the normally friendly Barbarossa, Lord President of Snake Eaters, a man that had been her mother's friend while her mother was still Qu'essan. What could he do to a stranger?
There was little to do, though, until he arrived. The cooks were preparing a meal for when the meeting with the Lord-and-Master was finished -- well, at least the preliminary meeting.
The Valshanth was beautiful as only it could be...freshly cleaned for the spring months, and the gardens, expansive and cared for by a pair of Brown Class Mages, already bloomed in a subtle riot of color. The natural perfumes of fragrant flowering plants were stirred through the air by a mild breeze.
The Valsharess had prepared as best she could, and the Qu'essan nervously awaited her first duty with foreign policy...and foreign leaders.
The Honor Guard and transport waited patiently at the landing site.
Everything was in readiness.
And let the sun not set on us in disgrace, thought little Aris.
ic> The impressive, hulking form of the Imperial Fist made it's jump out of the Warp inside a system known as Zoxidon. They were right on schedule for once. The Imperial Fist was not just a mighty Battle Barge, stretching about 4 Km in length; it was the flagship of the entire Gronde military. Aboard Gronde's most important ship was, arguably, one of the galaxy's most important figures, Lord-and-Master Kalgar.
Kalgar had just finished getting ready when the ship exited the Warp. The nation of Kaymiril had just begun to develope ties with the Great Forge. A visit was arranged to, hopefully, forge an alliance in the future. A pair of Hunter Destroyers exited a few seconds behind the flagship.
It had always been Kalgar's nature to be an outgoing ruler. He would frequently lead his armies into battle personally. This preference carried over to his actions of state. The Lord-and-Master of Gronde rarely sent others to represent his nation; he had never trusted what he did not see for himself. As he tied his Katana to his waist and put on his trench coat, Kalgar was greatfull for the fact that he had been exposed to many strange and unusual things. Whatever customs he would encounter wouldn't suprise him much, at least he hoped. He left his room and walked to the Command Deck. They would be arriving any minute.
ooc> Landing scene will be written tomorrow. Feel free to make another post.

An aide notified the Qu'essan that the Grondian ships had entered the atmosphere.
"Go," she said. "Inform my mother, the Valsharess, that her guest will be arriving in under an hour."
Young Aris fidgeted in the formal Maril regalia she had to wear that day. It wasn't entirely comfortable, and moreover, it would get hot under the sun. She again hoped that she wouldn't cause an unfavorable impression.
Her grandmother, the former Valsharess, came to check on her.
"Stop moving," she addressed the child in Common, the language she'd have to use. "Calm down. You are greeting a man that is a ruler of a nation. Your mother is the ruler of a nation, so there is little difference between you and him, save for your age. Do you understand me?"
"Xas, ilhar d' ussta ilhar."
"In Common, dalhar. What is it in Common?"
The child thought. "Yes, grandmother."
The former Valsharess smiled. "Good. Just remember your manners, and who you are...as well as your Common. You'll be fine. I had your mother greet the ambassador from Ina when she was about your age."
She left her granddaughter and went back inside the Valshanth.
ic> Right on schedule, the Imperial Fist moved in and began to land. The two Hunter Destroyers remained in low orbit. Kalgar was still standing in the command deck.
"Good," said Kalgar. "We are on time and nothing is going wrong." The Captain of the Honor Gaurd Space marines aboard was standing close by.
"That hasn't happened in some time, has it?" the Space Marine officer replied. Kalgar chuckled.
"You know that all too well, Lysander," said Kalgar, humorously. "I suppose I should get make my way to the main ramp with the Space Marines to be greeted." Kalgar stopped suddenly as he was walking out of the command room; an idea occurred to him...
***
The massive ship made its landing in the designated area. A large ramp immediately descended near the front of the Barge. With calculated precision, two lines of space marines in the silver armour of the Honor Gaurd marched down from the ship. Stopping once the first two marines made it to the bottom, they all faced inward, towards each other, and stood at attention. Seconds later, a figure clad in very ornate power armour emerged from the entrance. His armour was the same color as the Honor Gaurd's, but it was covered in insignias and medals. He strode down the ramp between the two columns of marines.

The Kaymirilian guard waited calmly, silently, as they had before. Their discipline was such that they had stood at the Kaymirilian army's version of "attention" since they'd arrived an hour before.
It was an easier stance on the body, which meant that with discipline, it could be held for several hours...unlike some humanforms, which would see to it that the soldier was rendered unconcious after only a few minutes.
They waited for the armored, helmeted figure to reach them.
The one at the front, a man wearing a simple black uniform with a green eye under the Maril insignia, made a half bow, spreading his hands.
"Gre'as'anto lu' verve dro, Lord-and-Master Kalgar." He straightened up. "Our Valsharess is expecting you."
ic> As the armoured figure reached the bottom of the ramp and was greated by one of the gaurds, another figure in a black trenchcoat emerged from the ship. Striding down the ramp, he stopped when he reached the gaurd.
"I see you have already met Captain Lysander," he said, extending a hand. "I am Kalgar, Lord and Master of the Great Forge. This man will be in charge of the marines on my ship." Lysander bowed and walked back up the ramp. The Space Marines followed.

An attendent approached the young Qu'essan with a drink, which she accepted.
"The Lord-and-Master has arrived, Princess. He also appears to have played a minor prank on our guards."
Aris handed the drink back. "What sort of prank?"
"He allowsed his captain to pass himself off, at least temporarily, as him."
The young Qu'essan sighed. "Not much we can do of it now. I will speak to him when he arrives."
______________________________________________________________________
The captain did not allow the merest hint of annoyance on his face, merely repeated his greeting to the real Kalgar.
"Now, if you will step on, the Qu'essan is waiting to greet you at the Valshanth."
He stepped aside and guestured to a magnificently embroidered tapestry that was lying on the ground.
The rest of the guard hovered just above the ground on what appeared to be small sheets of metal, and a two servants were waiting for the Grondian leader, one to offer refreshment, the other to offer shade from the morning sun.
"The journey will take less than an hour."
ic> Kalgar stared at the tapestry for a moment. Fortunately, he was prepared to see strange things. He quickly realized that this ornate carpet must be some form on transportation. Nodding his head, Kalgar stepped on.
"I appreciate your hospitality."
Kaymiril

"You may wish to sit down, Lord-and-Master. Many find the first time on one of these to be a disconcerting experience."
The Captain waited for Kalgar to either take or reject the advice, then guestured to his men.
The carpet rose, slowly at first, then more swiftly as it began to move forward.
The guard moved with it, and when they had achieved the desired altitude, they accelerated to a much faster speed. The countryside, dotted with villiages and towns, and occasionally with a farmhouse, sped by beneath them.
It was a unique, but oddly beautiful land...lush and green in some places, with brief stretches of desert. Its most unique features, however, were towns laid out in such a way that they seemed to form huge sigils.
The wind shield activated as soon as they started accelerating, and a servant offered Kalgar a drink.
Kalgar lowered himself onto one knee. He wasn't familliar with this strange mode of transportation; any indignification he would recieve from sitting down would be far less than if he fell off once the rug started to move.
So he sat and waited, soaking in the passing landscape. A servant offered him a drink which he accepted.

After almost an hour had passed, a grand structure almost seemed to erupt from the landscape. The Valshanth was a grand building...humbler than the palaces of some kingdoms so large and powerful, but with a grace that never failed to awe a visitor.
They came to a halt before a grand gate, wrought of mithral and iron by the greatest metalworkers of the time. The guard spoke the password, and they opened, ushering Kalgar into a different world than the one or ones he would be familiar with.
They went straight along a path that was flanked by beauty on either side. There were fountains and well-cultivated groves, and rare flowers within arm's reach.
They set down just before a giant stairway.
"If you will follow me, Lord-and-Master, our Qu'essan is waiting to greet you at the top."
As they approached, Kalgar allowed himself to admire the palace. It was dwarfed by the massive fortress that towered over the capital of his own nation, but it had a certain refinement that his fortified citadel couldn't match. The interior was rather impressive as well. With fountains and lush gardens, it was certainly a beauty to behold.
When they reached the giant stairway, Kalgar nodded his head and continued to follow his "guide."
Kaymiril
25-11-2005, 02:07
It was a long flight of stairs, and at the top was a little girl, dressed in an ornate robe of red and black.
This was the young Qu'essan. At thirteen years old, she stood just over three feet tall, and looked about the equivilant of a five-year-old human child. Her dark blue eyes, though, contained a sharpness, a clearness, a piercing brightness that no human child's could.
The guard made a deep bow (roughly 35 degrees to the horizontal), and left.
The young Qu'essan made a slight bow in a similar manner that the guard had when Kalgar had first appeared.
"Gre'as'anto lu' verve dro, Lord-and-Master Kalgar of Gronde. I am Aris d' Maril. We have greatly anticipated your visit."
Her Common was somewhat halting, but it still flowed almost fluently.
"Reports reached us of the trick you pulled on our guards. We are not a warlike nation, Sir, we intend that no harm should come to you while on our soil or within these walls. Now, if you will follow me, my mother is expecting you."
She turned to the door, and it opened for her. She preceeded her guest in.
Kalgar kept his suprise hidden at being greeted by a mere child. As she introduced herself, he quickly realized that she was older than she appeared. That's right, Drow are like the Eldar. They age much slower than humans do, Kalgar thought. After she gave her reaction to the minor stunt that he pulled back at the ship, Kalgar gave a mild chuckle as he followed her.
"It wasn't a trick, my dear," Kalgar replied. "It was mearly a test. A test, I might add, you passed." Kalgar remained silent for the rest of the walk.
Kaymiril
25-11-2005, 02:45
She was silently irritated that a foreigner would dare to put the Maril Elite Guard to the "test" in such a degrading manner, but she led him on.
The servants had cleared from the hallways...there were only a few in the Valshanth with enough rank or prestige to pass along the way Aris was leading the guest. Of those, there was only one she desparately didn't want to pass.
As luck would have it...fortune was not smiling upon the young daughter of the Valsharess.
An adult male was walking along the way, and as they approached, he stood directly in their path.
"Vel'bol ph' dos xunin, Aris?" His face was sharp, with a small, cruel mouth, and his tone was brusque.
The young Qu'essan stiffened.
"Speak in Common, father, for the benefit of our guest."
The man regarded Kalgar with the same expression that a man uses when eying a dog that displeased him greatly.
"Another stray your mother brought in to degrade our nation...a rivvil from a star beyond our own."
"You have no authority to challenge my mother's decisions." Rage was thick in Aris's voice.
"Oh? Perhaps you should let this vermin speak for itself. He is not us, ussta dalharil...you know this. He is not like us, and not worthy of us."
"That is not your judgement to make!" For the first time, the sharpness of the young girl's voice matched that of her father's, and it was enough to make him recoil slightly. The power system should be clear to Kalgar...this girl, young though she was, had more power than her father.
"Let him prove that," he responded, trying to re-establish his place as the adult in the conversation. "He cannot, dalhar."
Kalgar was more than a little put off by the egotistical manner wielded by the male Drow. He legitimately thought himself to be superior, just because of his race. This, however, was something that he was more than accustomed to.
"Is this how the father of the Qu'essan always greets guests?" asked Kalgar to no one in particular. He then turned directly to the rather rude Drow male. "Well, my friend, I would hate to disapoint you, but I at 400 years old, I don't think it would be propper for me to be refered to as of a 'lesser race.'"
Kaymiril
25-11-2005, 04:21
Aris put a hand to her forehead. She was probably out of Kalgar's vision, though, being so short.
"I don't care what abominations have given you your lifespan, rivvil. Look at your pathetic race, squirming in the mire that our great Queens had the wisdom to pull us out from. The same mire that this current Queen, this woman you think to meet, you think to equal, will pull us back into through her foolishness...through her compassion," the male said, spitting the last word out like it was a profanity.
"You and your type are less than animals. And the sooner the mother of the Qu'essan learns that, the better off all of us will be."
He moved to brush past them.
ic> This man had pushed Kalgar too far. He had devoted his life to bringing glory to the human race and would not stand for this racist excuse for an individual to speak of them in such terms. As he went to brush past him, Kalgar grabbed his arm and punched him squarely in the face with a force that could have possibly put a hole in a stone wall. Kalgar was angry, but far from being in a rage.
"Tell me, what gives you the right to judge my civilization?" asked Kalgar firmly. "Hopefully you will realize one day that the difference between us is that I am willing to learn from other races. You would hold on to your prejudices and allow yourself to spiral into*extinction." Turning to the child, Kalgar took a deep breath. "I will have to ask that you forgive me for that."
Kaymiril
25-11-2005, 05:01
The blow had been enough to render the man unconcious.
As Kalgar let him go, Aris made a guesture and two servants seemed to materialize next to her. She gave them an instruction in Drow, and they took the man.
She then looked back to her guest.
"I must apologize for my father's behavior...it is inexcusable. You will find my mother much different in her outlook on other races. My father...his House as a whole comes close to crossing the line too far...in any event, it is only a little further."
She continued to lead him down the hallway, and finally opened an ornate door.
"Valsharess d' Maril, I present Lord-and-Master Kalgar of Gronde."
Valsharess Kaymiril VII stood to greet her guest, and made the customary slight bow.
"Gre'as'anto lu' verve dro, Lord-and-Master of Gronde. You are welcome to our nation. I trust your voyage was pleasant?"
Meanwhile, Aris made a slight bow to her mother, said something to her, and left.
The Valsharess smiled. "So, you had the good taste to punch my husband. You've already made a favorable impression. Please, have a seat." She guestured to an elegant but comfortable chair. "Do you desire any refreshment?"
ic> Kalgar bowed as he entered the room, taking the seat that was offered.
"It's a pleasure to finally meet you," said Kalgar. "Your daughter performed her duties most admirably. I certainly hope that my actions didn't cause any trouble for you."
Kaymiril
25-11-2005, 20:41
"Not really. He needed to learn something about foreign policy the hard way. Pity it happened so late in his life."
The Valsharess settled into her seat...one on level with Kalgar's.
"Now, I am curious as to why you requested this meeting. Kaymiril has not yet done very much venturing out into space up to this point, nor have we ever had emmisaries from your nation before."
Kalgar leaned forward tentatively.
"Mini Miehm is a member of the Alliance of Naggaroth," Kalgar explained. "Their leaders have told the council and I much about your nation, causing me to desire the formation of diplomatic ties." He paused for a second to let it register. His speech was very articulate, he spoke as he was: a man who has led an empire for over 400 years, a warrior who had fought countless wars, and a stoic individual that had witnessed unimaginable carnage and devastation in his life. Despite that, there was a certain warmth and humor in his voice and demeanor. His dark green eyes contained more than just the visions of a soldier and politician.
"Your people posses a unique magical talent," he continued. "The leaders of MM have already warned me that you would refuse, but it is my duty to ask you to become a member of the AoN anyways."
Kaymiril
26-11-2005, 04:24
"You are correct. We will refuse to become a member of such a society. For now, the beginning of our reaching out, we prefer to make alliances with individual nations. This allows us closer ties with nations we wish to be close to, and more distant ones with nations we know less well. Perhaps, when Aris should take the throne, my nation will be ready to move into such alliances, but I feel more comfortable in dealing with individual nations. It is like me and you meeting here today to discuss an alliance, rather than all the leaders of your alliance here to confront me with so many terms at once. No...currently, it is better that we should speak as rulers of individual nations, rather than myself as a Queen and you as the representative of a multitude of nations."
These words were the words of a Queen that knew what was best for her people at that particular moment in time. She was not so unlike the Great Queens that her husband had so brusquely claimed she could never be like. But in her eyes...a lighter blue than her daughter's..there was the look of a warrior. A woman who had seen combat...a woman who could kill. Her face was friendly and open, and her tone warm...but they were two equals, she and Kalgar.
"You mentioned our magick? Yes...we have mages...some that I am sure would be willing to travel to your nation and teach your talented young ones, should you so desire. You must understand...magick is about the manipulation of energies. There are some that can do this...easily, or with training. It is not some unique talent...it is merely something we train at...and our race may have a slight advantage over some, in the ability to manipulate these energies."
A sly half smile appeared on Kalgar's face, even though his offer was turned down.
"I have to tell you, I am very much the same way," said Kalgar. He looked the queen in the eyes as when he spoke. The Lord-and-Master had stared down powerfull psykers, skilled jedi, and vicious aliens in his years. As rare as it was for him to meet one, he knew an equall when he saw one. "I personally prefer allies who would fight along side me out of mutual respect and benefit as opposed to alliance obligations." However, unlike many men who would be threatened or intimidated by such things, Kalgar, instead, found himself even more fascinated with the queen he was now facing.
"As for your magick," said Kalgar. "My nation contains many talented individuals who posses formidable psykic abilities. It is possible that my psykers and your mages may work similarly. Only time will tell." Kalgar switched proverbial gears for a moment.
"If you don't mind me saying this," Kalgar began. "It seems as if you and your husband are complete opposites; how did that ever happen?"
Kaymiril
26-11-2005, 05:03
There was a brief and minor change in her expression, but it was fleeting, perhaps even a trick of shadow, or of light.
"It was an arranged marriage. Our lower classes may wed whomever they wish...but for the seven High Houses, and of course, the Royal House...things are more complicated. Oh, I had choices...but the other two would have been worse than him, difficult as it is to imagine."
She made a dismissive guesture.
"He will not be joining us at the evening meal, or during the negotiations. His views on foreign policy are antiquated, at best, so let us put this subject behind us."
She looked back at him with an unwavering gaze.
"Now...I am most interested in is how this alliance between your nation and mine should be set up. I am certain you had at least a few ideas on how your nation would find this to be most beneficial?"
Kalgar caught the momentary expression change on the queen's face. This was obviously something that bothered her. He realized that, even with her formidable physical and mental power, she was still bound to traditions that she more than likely despised. This would be something that he would persue further at a later time. Right now was a time for business.
"I believe that a combination of a trade alliance, some form of a loose military pact, and some joint research programs would be a good place to begin."
Kaymiril
26-11-2005, 05:33
"The trade alliance and military pact were expected...but you are the first to suggest research programs, of all the foreigners I have brought to the Valshanth for the purpose of creating alliances. This is interesting. What would you prefer these joint programs be?"
Kaymiril has very few of those going at the moment...but more could be created...interesting...very...interesting.
"Well, within the AoN, many member nations have pooled funds together for weapons research. This has allowed us to keep a military edge over our rivals," Kalgar explained. "Your nation and mine could work on weapons research if you desire. We could also research bio-technology or anything else that could better our civilizations." Though he tried not to show it, Kalgar's mind still lingered on their previous exchange in the conversation.
Kaymiril
26-11-2005, 05:49
"I would like some time to think these things over. Each alliance is a unique and delicate thing, and you've allotted far more time to grace us with your presence than most previous representatives have. So please...why don't you allow me to show you some of my ancestral home for the two hours until the evening meal is scheduled?"
Kalgar stood up gave a modest bow.
"My lady, I would be honored to view your ancestral home."
Kaymiril
26-11-2005, 17:23
She stood, and the door to Kalgar's right opened. It had appeared to be merely another panel of wall.
The room itself was ornately decorated, between ornate silk tapestries and jewel-inlaid panels.
"Then come."
She led him through the door into a well-lit hallway, overlooking the central "courtyard." This courtyard, open to the air, was almost big enough to contain a small village. The use of colors both in the hall and in the garden had dazzled the eyes of many first-time guests. The hall was formed of a white marble-like substance, with works of art placed in alcoves. There were sculptures in some, paintings in others...art across the entire range that Kalgar would be familiar with, and then a few he wouldn't be able to recognise at all.
"This was the first part of the Valshanth to be built, under our founder. Her actual name was Kaymiril, and from her name we have our nation and the title that every Valsharess takes when her mother relinquishes the crown."
She opened a door into the garden, where different sorts of flowers had been arranged in a variety of different shapes, to form pictures or glyphs.
"The gardens were always my favorite, from the time I was a little girl."
When she was sitting behind a table, it hadn't been obvious, but now, standing, walking, there was a slight push forward at the stiff fabric composing her garments...like one would see from a woman who was expecting.
But before Kalgar would have time to reflect on that, a little toy truck came zooming out in front of them.
Kaymiril VII levitated it into her hand, and called forth the small boy who had been playing with it.
"Vel'bol inbal Usstan della dos?" She picked the child up, giving him back the imported toy. "My son, Iral," she said to Kalgar, by way of explanation.
She then looked to her son. "Can you say hello to our guest?" The boy just looked at the human blankly. "Iral, say hello to Lord-and-Master Kalgar."
He looked at his mother. "Nau."
The Valsharess handed him to a servant, who had been attending the boy. She was the third servant he had seen within the Valshanth itself, the others were either not there or inconspicuous.
"Now, this hallway was constructed by my mother, less than a century ago..."
The tour continued until it was time for the evening meal.
________________________________________________________________________
***Meanwhile, in a different part of the Valshanth***
Darul d' Irvandi sat in his chambers with his lover. His jaw still throbbed from the assault he'd recieved at the hands of that rivvil slime...but the fact that that rivvil WAS here meant that they could have that much better an opportunity to overthrow the Maril tyranny and return their nation to the isolationistic way it had been.
"So, tonight, you will instruct your forces to attack. Since this place is supposed to be impregnable, the only forces that will fall under suspicion will be hers...a revolt. I will disappear, and the royals will be slain...including this slime, this abomination, that she has brought to our sacred nation so willingly, so openly...so foolishly."
His lover smiled...the deadly smile he loved so much...the spider's smile. "And then we will rise, you by my side...to create order from the chaos that will ensue. But tell me, 'chev...what of her guest's armies? Will they not demand retribution?"
He laughed, kissing her, enjoying the sensual feel of her body against his. "Seriso, it will be our noble Valsharess at fault. With her dead, as well as her mother and children, their retribution has been taken for them. Besides...they will have to concern themselves with a new leadership...this is a man without heirs to his empire."
Kalgar took some time to just absorb the tour. The strange palace was something different--something new. Yet even in a place as foreign as this, he was reminded of his gardens that were built inside the walls of his fortress. It was an odd feeling. During one of the quiet moments, Kalgar inquired about what he had noticed earlier.
"How long have you been carrying another child?" he asked.
Kaymiril
27-11-2005, 03:51
"About eight months. I'm required by law to bear my husband a minimum of three children, so long as two are female. I'm told this one is to be female...at which time my usefulness for him will end...and none too soon."
She was again leading him through a hallway. It was more graceful, more intricate...more Elven.
"The masters that designed this part of the Valshanth studied in Isaac when it was fashionable to study from the Elves. It's pretty...but somewhat surreal for my tastes."
"Your usefullness to him?" echoed Kalgar. "I know a small amount about Drow culture that I learned from my studies when I was young. Aren't you worried that he will attempt to dispose of you once your 'usefullness' to him has ended?" Kalgar realized too late that he may have implied too much.
Kaymiril
27-11-2005, 04:17
"I fear he might attempt something like that...but if so, then his usefulness for me ends sooner than does mine for him. If he does attempt something...the guards try to be inconspicuous unless they're needed, but we do have them. But here...it is time for the evening meal."
A door to her left opened, revealing a dining hall that was rather small for a Royal one.
"My mother will be joining us momentarily, but my children will be separate...Iral is somewhat stranger-shy and Aris would try to get him to be more sociable...I'll go see them later this evening. Ah...may I introduce my mother Kaymiril VI. Mother, this is Lord-and-Master Kalgar of Gronde."
The former Valsharess looked strikingly similar to her daughter...tall for a Drow, standing at 5'5", with the same face. She had the same blue eyes, maybe darker, the same white hair, the same ebony black skin. The only thing that differed in the two extraordinarily similar fine-boned faces was the expression. In the older Maril's eyes was a more distant look...colder, more closed, more judgemental...more experienced. More mature.
"Gre'as'anto lu' verve dro, Lord-and-Master Kalgar. I trust you have found our hospitality pleasant thus far?"
They sat down, and dinner was served over several courses...a light vegetable first course, with a soup for the second, and a meat dish for the third, with another light dish before a dessert of native fruits.
The food would all taste exotic to Kalgar...Kaymirilian food tasted similar to so many things, but was completely unique in both style of cooking and in natural flavor.
Kalgar gave a modest bow to the elder drow woman. He looked at her eyes with interest. He knew right then that she would be a person whom he would have to prove himself to. It would not be an easy task.
"Your hospitality has indeed been most admirable," replied Kalgar. "I thank you." He took his seat and ate along with his hostesses. The food was something new, though it was not as strange as some of the things that he had eaten before. It was definately something that he enjoyed eating.
Kaymiril
27-11-2005, 04:52
The conversation was polite from both Drow women...nothing incredibly difficult to speak about, but not a word was missed or left unthought about.
After the evening meal, the Valsharess herself had other, pressing matters of state to attend to, which left Kalgar to speak with her mother, if he wished, or to retire, if he wished.
Several moments of akward silence passed as the two of them sat in the dining hall. Kalgar was lost in his own thoughts at the time. He wasn't even dwelling on the building of an alliance between the two countries. The tour that he received of the palace, seeing the children in the gardens, reminded him painfully of the family that he had never been able to have. He had lost everything that he had cared about more than once in his life. Kalgar had since been nearing the point where the only thing he ever allowed himself to get attached to was his own empire. Perhaps that was changing, but upon realizing the silence in the room, he pushed those thoughts from his mind and looked to the elder Drow. It was time to make conversation.
"So, tell me about your family..."

"I have two daughters, and...five grandchildren now, soon to be six. My son was killed when he was young, as a result of a misguided war. He is considered one of our greatest heros...even though he was only a misguided young boy...Dora'nes, the elder twin, married a foreign Prince. She just had her third son last year. Annastrianna, better known internationally as Valsharess Kaymiril VII, was always more open to foreign cultures. It seems to have carried over in her daughter."
She took a sip of her drink and put her cup down.
"And what of you, young man? What family do you have?"
Kalgar was used to being called things such as "young man" by those younger than he was. This allowed his to keep his poise and not burst into random laughter as he had done before in his life. However, even though he knew it was comming, the return of his own question to him still hit him hard, though he did his best to hide it.
"I...I don't have any family...not anymore," he said, in a tone darker than normal. "My mother and father died when I was barely an adult. It was as a result of a war that destroyed the parent civilization of Gronde. My brother made it out, though. I had a wife some time ago, she gave birth to two children." Kalgar took a breath. Of all the things that he had seen in his life, this was the most difficult thing to re-tell.
"I never saw them, though. I'm not sure if you know of it, but the Fallen War devestated my empire and one of our closet allies, Corpsac. My wife was their empress. She was killed in battle half-way across the galaxy while I fought for my life and my homeworld. My own brother was killed in the final battle at our capital city. My children had vanished when Corpsac's homeworld was raized by Fallen Space Marines." His eyes narrowed. He was scarecely aware of just how much he was telling this woman.
"I've been around for some time; I'm a space marine myself. I've always fought to defend what I believe in and those I care about. Yet, no matter how powerfull I become, I fail to protect them. I may portray someone who is impervious both physically and mentally...but I'm still human..." Kalgar pulled a small blade from his inside coat pocket and pressed it against his thumb, making a cut. "...I still bleed. And it's not always my flesh." Kalgar stood up slowly to leave. He hadn't intended to say so much, but that couldn't be helped now.
Kaymiril
27-11-2005, 05:57
The old Valsharess stood and crossed over to him.
"You still know you bleed...you still know you hurt. Which is why you can heal. You are reluctant to hurt...to allow yourself to become hurt. But the moment you stop being able to feel pain at a loss...is the moment your empire needs a new ruler."
She took his hand, and with the barest concentration, healed the cut.
"Now, it is late, and you have journied long. A servant will take you to your chambers where you may retire."
He allowed for a smile to form on his face. What the woman had said was something that he had already known, but hearing it from someone else made him feel better about it. Kalgar looked back one last time before the servant led his around the corner. It was obvious that the former queen was a formidable woman: someone of both great wisdom and presence. It would also seem that she was not as cold and distant as she seemed. But for now, it was time to rest.

The servant led him a short distance...up over some stairs and down a corridor or two.
Kalgar would get the feeling that he travelled more distance than he actually walked...but the Valshanth was a mysterious building.
He opened a door to a rather large, comfortable but not disgustingly lavish room.
"Here you are, Sir. Should you require anything during the night, here is a bell. You may call upon us...someone is always awake. The Valsharess wishes to resume the talks after the midday meal. If that is acceptable to you, at what time would you like your morning meal brought to you?"
Kalgar entered the room and removed his coat and shoes. He had requested the the morning meal be brought in about 10 hours. He didn't normally eat much of a "breakfast" but figured it might be considered rude to turn the offer down. The bed looked confortable enough, but he hadn't actually slept in a bed in some time. Instead, he picked a spot on the floor and sat down cross-legged. He removed his shirt, revealing a muscle structure that could have only been developed through years of training and conditioning, not to mention a little help from Space Marine implants. He had much to think about...luckily, he thought best in his sleep. Unfortunately, his sleep would not be peacefull enough for such things...

After another few hours, the Valshanth quieted as most of its inhabitents slept.
***Meanwhile***
Other forces prepared for the attack. If this was successful, they would usher in a new era for Kaymiril.
If it failed, they would all be executed for treason.
It was dark. Lord-and-Master Kalgar was walking down a hall of black stone and metal. The sounds of battle were faint and distant, but evident. A nearby explosion rocked his fortress. He finally reached his destination; it was a balcony at one of the high points in the citadel. Looking out, he couldn't help but be in awe at what he saw--even after all these years. He was viewing what could possibly be the final act in one of the bitterest civil wars the galaxy had ever seen. What he saw was a city of 400 million people at war. PDF units engaged in vicious street-to-street combat and massed advances. Tanks, mechs, and even titans rampaged through countless city blocks. In the air, pilots of fighters and aircraft jockeyed for control of the skies and in orbit and space...the galaxy's most powerful and devastating weapons battled for supremacy.
Kalgar wished to be down there with his men, fighting along with them. But he was needed in the palace and in the control room. He just needed to see it for himself. He needed to see that it was all worth it. He needed to see the millions upon millions of PDF reservists that were willing to lay down their lives to defend their homeland. He needed to see that the very walls of his fortress were being assaulted. Kalgar needed to see the enemy.
He had turned back inside when another series of enemy drop-pods came surging down from orbit. This had been happening for days. This time, however, one came directly at the fortress, crashing through a section of its walls very close to Kalgar's current location. He immediately ran to its point of impact.
By the time he got there, the room was filled with about 50 dead marines--from both sides. The only thing standing besides him in the room was another figure in a black cloak. It was Heinrich Von Rictor, the head of the Cybertech defense forces that had gone rouge.
"Ah Kalgar," he said in a voice that was not quite his own. "I am so glad that you decided to show up. I wanted to kill you myself." Kalgar merely laughed.
"So there is honor among traitors after all," Kalgar replied. Then, he got a strange feeling in his gut. There was something not right about this man. There was another presence there. Heinrich's voice was different and his eyes...where had Kalgar seen those eyes before? His opponent then drew the weapon of Jedi and Sith: a light saber. The red light from the weapon gleamed in both their eyes and cast shadows on the wall. At last, the horrible truth had been revealed. "Horrar..." Kalgar's foe only smiled and laughed. It was a laugh that Kalgar knew all to well. Drawing his Katana, Kalgar realized just how much was at stake.

Darul d'Irvandi grinned this was going all too well...all too perfectly. Everyone slept save a few guards and servants.
Everyone would die.
The forces of his Mistress's House crept through the entrances he had let them through. They had their instructions.
On the other side of the wall, he joined her...kissed her. They would be there to see their most glorious triumph.
They stormed the Valshanth, utterly destroying the few guards that could be seen.
They headed for the rooms they knew they were going to hit...the rooms where the royal family members slept...where the foreign delegate slept...they could get there.
All of a sudden, there was a great rally. The majority of the household guard began to attack the intruders.
Masses were cut down on both sides...but there were still only so many.
Darul led them down toward other, more secret passageways.
He opened the door into the corridor, but the first several were cut down by the spear-like weapon of Kaymiril VI, former Valsharess.
She was shortly joined by a Warmancer...Haldosir Red-eye. They were still pushed back by the sheer number...and Haldosir had to be careful lest he should hurt her.
For several minutes, the battle raged on...and then the blade of one of the warriors cut down the former Valsharess.
Haldosir paused a moment, then regripped his sword. Magick and blood flowed around him in great rushes...these traitors would all die.
Meanwhile, Rildorath Green-eye and Nervim Blue-eye were defending the hallway in which Kalgar slept. Rildorath was a powerful warrior with little magickal ability...and Nervim was an extraordinarily talented mage with little talent for swordplay. Together, though...there was little threat to the Lord-and-Master of Gronde.
But the fight continued...
The two men dueling inside the fortress walls were equally as important as the battleships blasting eachother into oblivion in high orbit. It was a grudge that had lasted over 200 years and hadn't been stopped by death. Their fight had taken them to another wing of the fortress and they were now in Kalgar's very throne room.
Horrar sent a surge of Sith lightening at Kalgar, which he deflected with his blade. No punch was left unblocked, no strike was left unparried. Neither combatant was willing to give anything.
Nobody knew how long their duel dragged on. Few even knew it had taken place until Kalgar's own brother, Alexander, was digging through the ruins of the fortress. He was clad in the power armor of the honor guard. It was then that he saw them, Heinrich/Horrar and Kalgar. They were both motionless. Horrar had Kalgar's sword in his chest; Kalgar, it appeared, was just burried alive when the fortress was hit by orbital strikes.
"How the mighty have fallen," said Alexander with a sigh. But then he saw movement; Kalgar was still alive! His brother called for some medics as he went down to retrieve his ruler. Kalgar regained conciousness long enough to see his brother comming near...long enough to see the sniper...but not soon enough to warn him. Alexander's lifeless body fell before him. That was the last image that Kalgar had before losing it again.
Kalgar's eyes shot open suddenly. He was sitting in his room in the Valshanth. He knew that sound; it was the sound of battle. Pushing the memories of his dream aside, he knew that something wasn't right. He got dressed and grabbed his katana and a small plasma pistol. It was time to find out what was happening. He walked out of his room and approached the two individuals that appeared to be gaurding his hallway.
"What is going on?" he asked, though he was already quite sure what the answer was. Why do I have to be right all the time? he asked himself.
Kaymiril
27-11-2005, 20:17
Nervim turned as he blasted another few intruders.
"We are under attack. As it seems you are a primary target, we suggest you return to your chambers for the duration, for your own safety."
Haldosir had captured Darul...bound him...he would pay later...most painfully.
He closed off the hall with the Valsharess and her children, locking it until further notice.
He would destroy these intruders...beat them back. The House that had sent these intruders would be annihilated...the battle would be over before the sun rose red over the Valshanth's spires.
Because Haldosir had never lost, and he did not intend to.
Kalgar looked at the two gaurds as if they had asked for him to shoot himself in the face.
"Not a chance," Kalgar replied frankly. "That is likely what the enemy would want. Besides, your services will likely be more needed elsewhere; there are probably people who require protection more than I do." He began to walk away from his hallway when he got a feeling in his gut, something that he had not felt in a long time. The Valsharess--he had to find Anna. Turning around, Kalgar addressed the two gaurds again.
"Where is the queen?" he asked them. Then, as a result of his language neural implant, he said the following in their own language. "Tesso uns'aa vel'klar l' valsharess zhah!"
Kaymiril
28-11-2005, 02:52
"We speak Common. The Valsharess is safe, as are her children. Which is why you should stay in the safety of the chambers you have been provided. It would not do well for the Valsharess's honor should a guest be killed while in her home."
The mage, the blue-eyed one, had been the one speaking, while his companion had been engaged in combat.
The smaller, more wiry Drow, the one that held the swords, could and did move silently and swiftly among the throngs of rebel soldiers, barely visible to even the trained eye...but the carnage he left behind was more than evident.
"Very well, I will find my own way," said Kalgar, slightly annoyed. "You can continue to gaurd this hallway if you like, but I wont be back until the intruders are gone." Kalgar continued through the palace where he saw the former Valsharess laying before him. He immediately sprinted towards her.
"Are you alright?" he asked as he checked her vitals. It was a stupid question to ask, it was quite obvious that the queen's mother wasn't.
Kaymiril
28-11-2005, 03:48
"Move along, dalhar...my time has come."
She was remarkably calm, for someone about to die.
"Although...I must wonder...what twist of fate it was that brought you here today. Tell my daughter..."
She never finished the sentence...a spell aimed at Kalgar hit her full on, finishing the job the one fool's sword had started.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Rildorath swore.
Why couldn't guests just do like they were supposed to?
They moved on, doing their best to stop the attack as soon as possible.
Now Kalgar was angry. He had just begun to develop a respect for the former queen and now she was dead. Looking up, he fired several plasma rounds at the attacker. He stood up and drew his katana. Reckoning was at hand.
Kaymiril
28-11-2005, 04:17
The round ate through the soldier's armor, but there was an entire horde now bent on attacking Kalgar.
One of them sent a spray of bullets at him...but they were halted abruptly, by some sort of spell.
A Drow male, standing at a (relatively) towering height of 5'9", held up his hand in a spell. His eyes glowed red.
"If you're going to do something damned foolish, might was well have a fellow warrior to do something damned foolish with, eh? Haldosir, by the way."
Kalgar eyed Haldosir.
"I'm Kalgar," he said humorously. "Fancy meeting you here." Kalgar pulled a small detonator from his coat pocket and lobbed it towards the advancing hordes. It wasn't anti-matter (which would have taken out the entire corridor) but it would still take out a dozen of the intruders at least and it wouldn't damage the building. Kalgar began advancing towards them.
"Just keep those bullets off of me, I'll take care of the rest."
Kaymiril
28-11-2005, 04:44
"Just be careful with the explosives. Most of this building is older than you are."
Haldosir kept the screen up, but wasn't interested in letting Kalgar take all the fun.
He flicked the wrist of his "free" hand when the first levels of smoke had cleared, and a man's heart came out of his chest, followed shortly by the gun of the guy behind him. Most guns came to Haldosir's call...he had no interest in letting his opponents remain armed.
He had no interest in a fair fight.
His only interests were in assuring the continued life of the Valsharess's guest, and in seeing that all the traitors died horrible deaths.
Or fast deaths...depending on the moment, really.
With the protection of his new pseudo partner's spell, Kalgar sprinted towards the enemy with the superhuman speed of a Space Marine. He cut open his first target with his blade, impaled the second, and blasted the third with his plasma pistol. The fourth was hit with one of Kalgar's self-crafted shurokens after he put his pistol away. The fifth was cut down after Kalgar took 4 bullets to his left arm. It was not even close to being enough to slow him down.
Kaymiril
28-11-2005, 17:45
The fighting had all but died down. There were still some few pockets of resistance, but now most of the Valshanth's staff were clearing the bodies and beginning the clean up.
One of these last members approached Kalgar and drew his sword. It was an obvious challenge to a blade match.
The man's stance, alert but tense, and the cold hard look in his eyes spoke of an experienced warrior. His hands bore the scars of many such battles...many such victories.
He didn't speak.
He didn't feel he needed to.
Kalgar viewed his challenger with a glint in his eyes. He sheathed his Katana and took out a callapsed black quarter-staff, which he assembled in a instant. The sound the weapon made when going through the air suggested that it was exeedingly heavy, yet Kalgar swung it around with ease. Deciding to go for a direct approach, Kalgar charged towards his new opponant. He performed a double sweeping attack: one strike aimed at the head and the other at the ankles.
Kaymiril
28-11-2005, 22:33
The challenger knew that the attempted coup was a failure. That didn't mean he couldn't accomplish one objective.
As Kalgar charged at him, he braced himself and waited, and as the staff flicked toward his head, he leaped up, doing an aeiral somersault and slamming his sword down where Kalgar's shoulder should be.
Kalgar made a short jump forward, turned sideways, and extended the staff, hopefully, into his airborn foe, with the intent of staying out of sword range. Kalgar jumped backwards and prepared for his challenger's next action.
Kaymiril
28-11-2005, 22:44
A slight flick of the wrist, and the sword pushed against the staff for an instant. Its master used the change in direction to flip and land on the staff itself, letting his foe's strength hold him up.
His hand snaked into a pouch, and he drew out a pair of throwing daggers, aiming one for the forehead, and the other for the throat.
Kalgar's reaction was well within the range of precognition. He focused his strength and threw his staff into the air with his opponant still on it. With his hands free, Kalgar removed his coat and hurled it at his opponant, which also blocked the daggers. The coat itself was also exeedingly heavy for an article of clothing and was now flying straight for the Drow.
Kaymiril
28-11-2005, 23:27
The assassin allowed himself to move with the staff, and watched as the coat flew at him.
He sliced through it as it came toward him, and started moving toward his opponent again, to parry another attack and then to counter attack.
Kalgar stood ready, his hand on his sheathed katana. The staff came down to the floor and stuck right in it when it hit. As his foe neared, he drew his katana and made his attack in a single, lightening-fast movement.
Kaymiril
28-11-2005, 23:57
The challenger swung his sword up, pushing himself back, only to charge back in again. Had his sword been any other metal, it would have shattered under the impact...but Adamantine was a fairly common metal in Kaymiril, and preferred for all blades to be made of.
Kalgar swung at the Drow again, a strike equally as powerfull at the first. This time, however, he took a dagger from his belt and attempted to drive it into his challenger's gut right after his first attack was parried.
Kaymiril
29-11-2005, 00:14
The daggar plunged deep into the Drow's belly, but it hadn't hit anything vital. He stepped back and leveled his sword at his opponent again.
"Usstan tlun jal'yur elghinyrr, Rivvil. Usstan xuat kyon ka a dosst rah xor nindel d' jalbyr. Ji doer...jous uns'aa natha trantz malar."
Kalgar smiled. He may just have some fun with this Drow, even though the "play time" was over. He moved in and commenced a furious assault. Every movement was precise and calculated, though he put all of his strength and speed into evey strike. It was time to get the job done.
Kaymiril
29-11-2005, 00:29
Speed and strength each compromised the other...which allowed the Drow to dodge many attacks, even as the floor became slippery with his blood.
He'd dodge, slip, parry, or turn attacks as he could...and finally he saw an opening. It would leave him wide open...but he took it, lunging with his sword so that at least this battle was not entirely in vain.
His opponant's blade penetrated Kalgar's side, sinking in several inches. Kalgar wasted no time in taking advantage of his opponants opening and delivered a fatal blow to the Drow's neck.
The battle was over. Kalgar removed his challenger's blade from his torso and took a knee next to the body of the former queen. This definately wasn't the smartest thing that he'd ever done. The attack had not been an severe as he had thought and his hosts would most likely be unhappy with him.
Kaymiril
29-11-2005, 01:19
The battle was over, and various mages were travelling through the Valshanth...most commonly seen in groups of Gray, Red, and White.
The ones clothed in Red would incinerate the traitors' dead, while the Gray would heal wounds indiscriminately. Cleanup had begun.
A lone Gray-clad mage approached Kalgar, noting the bullet wounds in his arm and the stab wound in his side.
First, he checked that the former Valsharess was well and truly dead, and called over one of his companions. Her body would be taken to her daughter, who would see to her burial details.
He then gently (telekinetically) pulled the bullets out of Kalgar's arm, before healing the wounds. Magickal healing is painful...almost as painful as getting the wound itself...but the mage was kind enough to take the pain upon himself.
For the sword wound, the mage ascertained that there were no organs pierced (and he healed them first, if there were), and then he closed the wound in Kalgar's side.
"If you rest well tonight, and eat well in the morning, you should be feeling back to normal before the sun is high."
Another servant approached him, making a bow.
"The Valsharess wishes to speak with you, Lord-and-Master Kalgar."
Kalgar thanked the servant that Mage that healed him and then turned to the messenger.
"Very well, I will be on my way." He was going to have some explaining to do.
Kalgar arrived to see the Valsharess after he had picked up his staff and the pieces of his coat.
Meanwhile, Captain Lysander had arrived at the Palace to find out what had happened.
Kaymiril
29-11-2005, 01:39
The servant began to lead Kalgar to the Valsharess, but was held up by another servant.
"There is a Captain Lysander here wishing to find what has happened. If he is known to you, Lord-and-Master, what should we tell him, or should we simply bring him to you?"
"Ah, Lysander," said Kalgar. "Just tell him the truth, I would like for you to explain what happened as your knowledge of it will be more complete than mine."
Kaymiril
29-11-2005, 02:03
The servant bowed and left to explain the attempted coup to Captain Lysander, and the other one led Kalgar the rest of the way to the Valsharess.
She was dressed in a less formal ensemble than she had been when he had first met her. The fabric was not as stiff, and it was white and blue, not red and black.
"I am glad you came, and relieved that you were not injured beyond the mages' ability to heal you so swiftly. However, it is customary that we allow our household guard and the Elite Soldiers nearby to deal with such events, and not risk the health and safety of our guests."
Her voice was soft...the death of her mother had been a deep shock, and she had a guest to be calm and collected in front of. She managed it as best as she was able.

Dora'nes Winchester, formerly Dora'nes d' Maril, ended her conversation with her sister as her sister's diplomatic guest arrived. It was late evening in Newtdom, and the call had come as a surprise.
She turned to her husband, Newt XXI. "A coup was just attempted at the Valshanth." Her lip twisted slightly. "My mother was one of the casualties. My sister and her children are fine. But I need to be there tomorrow...it's customary for the daughters of the Valsharess to see to her burial."
Newt rose from his armchair, and embraced his love. "I am sorry my dear, I shall have the jets ordered ready. Does your sister need any military support?" He gently kissed her on the cheek.

Newt rose from his armchair, and embraced his love. "I am sorry my dear, I shall have the jets ordered ready. Does your sister need any military support?" He gently kissed her on the cheek.
She shook her head, returning his embrace as tears started to slip down her cheeks.
"No...her forces were able to repel the attackers. Over the next few days, all parties responsible will be found and executed. We should leave early tomorrow, though."
Newt gave a reassuring smile, and ordered his valet to begin packing, while still in the embrace.
"I apologize," said Kalgar. "I thought that the situation was more dire than it actually was. Either way, my actions were foolish." Kalgar turned to walk away. He could tell that the queen was putting up a false front, trying to stay calm while he was there. He turned back for a moment.
"You don't need to act like nothing happened for my sake." Kalgar knew she was suffering. He stopped one last time before he left the room. "I'm so sorry."
***
Kalgar walked out into the hallway when Lysander found him. They were still within earshot of the Valsharess.
"Ah, Lysander," said Kalgar with an artificial chearfullness. "You don't look very worried."
"Kalgar, my friend," Lysander replied. "I have known you for a long time. If the entire palace got leveled by an orbital strike, I might have been worried. Although, I must say, your actions were rather foolish. You should have just stayed in your room, then I could have been heading back to the barge right now instead of telling you off." Lysander laughed but Kalgar didn't. This reaction shocked the Marine Captain. "Sir?"
"People were dying...I knew that if I fought, I could at least try to make sure no one else had to die on my behalf," Kalgar explained, frankly. Lysander had not seen him like this since his brother had died. "But I am fine. Their mage healed my wounds. Even if they hadn't, they would have been gone by morning." Lysander soluted and walked away. Kalgar headed back to his room. The image of the former Valsharess's was still fresh in his mind. He had a respect for the woman, and now she was dead. But then her own words echoed in his mind. The moment you stop feeling pain at loss is the moment your nation needs a new ruler. Kalgar allowed himself to smile softly. His humanity hadn't left him yet. He returned to his room and went back to sleep.

Kaymiril VII leaned on her desk after Kalgar left...her mother would have died naturally soon, yes...but why like this?
"Haldosir," she called. The red-eyed Warmancer stood before her.
"Bring me my husband...and his lover. Do what you like with the rest of the traitors...but these two die by my hand...tonight."
He bowed and brought them before her, leaving her to execute them as she saw fit.
* * *
Before dawn, the Valsharess recorded a message which skimmed over the events of the previous night. She put the blame onto those she knew had been responsible, spoke of her mother's death, and assured whomever listened that no other damage had been done.
* * *
In the morning, a servant brought food in to Kalgar. Most Kaymirilian adults did not partake of a morning meal, but exceptions were made for guests.
He also brought news that the Valsharess wished to speak with him as soon as was convenient.

Dora'nes roused her children early to get them ready to go. They didn't know yet...but she would tell them on the way.
Her eldest son, Newt XXII, was irate at having been woken so early, and Andrew, her 5 year-old, went back to sleep as soon as he was dressed. Cael was already awake, as he still hadn't settled on a sleeping pattern.
Dora' could have left this to the servants...but she wanted to do it herself.
Newt walked down the mirrored hall towards his children's chambers. He was flanked by his cousin, Lord Hollistein, and his brother Prince William. The two waited by the door as Newt entered. He resassured his young son that he would have time to sleep on the plane. Newt escorted his family to a waiting limouisine convoy and helped them into the appropriate vechile. It would be a short drive to the airfield, but the common formalities assosciated with royal travel had to be attended too.
The jet was being readied at the Royal Airfield. The lavish private jetliner had all the amenities of a palace. The limouisines drove up to the ramps, and servants were already loading the jet with the baggage which had been dropped off only moments prior.
Kalgar ate a small amount of the morning meal that was brought to him. He wasn't all that hungry. He bathed and changed is clothes, including a new trench coat. He felt strange after the battle, he was used to being a little sore and tired after healing all of his own wounds. He didn't like the feeling of being healed by magic. He shrugged and shook the feeling off. He had a habbit of considering "when convenient" to be "as soon as possible." He arrived to see the Valsharess a few minutes later.

He was invited to take a seat at a small table, and the Valsharess sat across from him.
"My sister and her family will be arriving shortly, and due to the nature of the day, I will be unable to continue our negotiations on an alliance until tomorrow. I will be leaving that in the care of my father's brother, Teril d' Kestal. He has my complete confidence, and I would have asked his opinion of anything that happened in any event."
She paused briefly, letting Kalgar absorb that. "If there are questions you have concerning last night, I will answer them now."

Dora' got her children onto the plane and let them fall asleep in their seats. She held Cael, as he was just barely learning to sit up on his own. After they were settled in, she turned to Will and Lawrence.
"I'm glad you both could come."
William merely smiled and nodded in a regal manner.
Lawrence nodded and said "It is our pleasure, especially for a member of our family."
Newt and the crew emerged from the office where he had just finished some official business with the pilots. He took his seat next to Dora' and sat quietly awaiting take off.

It was 6 in the morning. While Newt XXII and Andrew were still soundly asleep, Cael was awake and alert. He had reason to be, too. It was his first plane ride.
Kalgar nodded.
"All I want to know is who was responsible for it," said Kalgar.
The Royal Jet was in the air for 7 hours when it started its descent. The plane touched down a little after 1:15 Newtdonian time. The plane rolled to a stop, and Newt gathered up his sons, while William and Lawrence sat with Dora'.

Kalgar nodded.
"All I want to know is who was responsible for it," said Kalgar.
"My husband had a lover almost since we were married. By law, this is normally an offense punishable by death...and due to our marriage customs, there was no way I could not know about his mistress. They simply decided that his usefulness for me had ended. By killing myself, my children, and my mother, they would have effectively overthrown the existing government. By killing you, and blaming your death on us, they would have been able to bring Kaymiril back into the isolation it had always known."

They were taken to the Valshanth by the normal Kaymirilian means...the strange embroidered carpet. This, Dora' was wary of. The last time she'd visited her homeland, Andrew had been little, and Newt (her son) had almost walked off the edge. There were safeties in place, of course...and she knew that. But it had still given her a scare.
It would take a little under an hour to reach the Valshanth.
Upon reaching the grounds, Will jumped off the carpet and grinned at Lawrence. Will grins and says "Well, that is quite the ride my dear boy!" Lawrence merely nodded, he was a bit ill from the knowledge of the possible fall.
Newt helped his sons down from the carpet, and then extended his hand towards his wife, and smiled.
The entire situation made perfect sense to Kalgar. He's seen coups that went just like this occur in other nations.
"It would seem that he underestimated us both," said Kalgar with a light smile. It was a smile that he could not hold on to, however. "I am sorry for your loss." He left and prepared to meet her uncle.

Dora' took her husband's hand, stepping off the carpet.
"Don't worry, Lawrence. If it were possible to fall from the carpet, I think that my sister and myself would be many times dead."
Servants took them into the Valshanth itself, and then left to see to unpacking the Newtonian family into the rooms prepared for them, at least for the duration of their stay.

Kaymiril VII thanked Kalgar and then went to meet her sister.
When she got into the hall, she embraced her twin tightly for a full minute, before breaking away to greet her brothers-in-law and Newtdom's foreign minister, Lord Holstein, and to thank them for coming.
She greeted her nephews right as her children got there, and servants took them off to play, while another would take care of Cael while his mother was occupied.
"Now, if you will excuse us for the time being, servants will see you to your chambers."
With that, the Valsharess and her sister left to see to their mother. The only ones allowed to be there were the daughters of the former Valsharess. It wasn't a slight to their guests...it was just tradition.

Teril d' Kestal was an aging man, already well into his six hundreds.
Even so, he radiated a powerful presence. His eyes were bright and sharp...calculating, but around his mouth were smile lines.
"Gre'as'anto lu' verve dro, Lord-and-Master Kalgar of Gronde. I am aware of what you and the Valsharess discussed yesterday, and the Valsharess has empowered me to discuss anything with you that I might see fit today. Tomorrow, she should be with you again."
Kalgar arrived to meet the Valsharess's uncle. The Drow was even older than Kalgar and seemed to have a strangely cheerfull air about him. Kalgar approached and bowed respectfully.
"It is good to meet you," said Kalgar extending a hand. "I'm sure we will be able to find much to descuss."

Teril gripped Kalgar's hand firmly, although it was quite evident that the human had more physical strength.
"I am sure we will."
The Ambassador took a seat, motioning for Kalgar to do so as well.
"It is my niece's will that we have the trade and military alliances all but cemented before we discuss research projects. Which subject would you like to begin with?"
The three men went to their chambers and awaited further instructions from the Valsharess.
OOC: Lol...sorry, dunno what to put here

They were free to walk the grounds and buildings of the Valshanth, as they had been there before, and were considered family.
Kalgar wasted no time to answer.
"It would probably be good to begin with the marginally less sensitive issue of trade," said Kalgar, with a relaxed air. "We can move on to a military alliance descussion once trade had been ironed out."
Kaymiril
01-12-2005, 00:40
"Very well. I believed that you might wish to discuss that first."
He guestured, and a bolt of silk fabric came to his hand.
"Kaymiril specializes in the production of silk. Many breeds of spider here create thread suitable for weaving elegant and inexpensive garments. This is a coarse grade silk."
It was a soft, lovely material, dyed a rich blue.
"Medium grade silk is only slightly more expensiv, and fine grade silk not much costlier than that. This is a sample of fine-grade silk."
He unwrapped the first bolt, and inside of it was a shining, scarlet cloth.
"Lighter than air, softer than water, stronger than steel."
He placed this last fabric (there were around 20 square yards of it) on the table. "Our gift to you."
"Other objects we have to trade are glass ornaments, which differ in style depending on province; lumber, metals, and jewelry. We are also willing to trade in the gliders and tapestries we use in transportation, although these do not tend to be as popular as our silks."
He let a brief pause hang before speaking again.
"Kaymiril's trading policy dictates minimal tariffs for non-allied nations, and none for allies. We find it good for business."
Kalger examined the gift of silk that was placed before him. It was indeed a fine product.
"The Great Forge of Gronde is a highly industrialized empire," Kalgar explained. "We produce many things. However, we are most renown for our weapons. You have probably seen the titanic ship that I arrived in. However, this may be a more suitable example..." Kalgar reached into his coat and pulled from it an elegant plasma pistol, placing it on the table.
"This is a model XV 4 Plasma Pistol," said Kalgar. "It is our most reliable model. It is accurate and powerful; it can burn through Space Marine armor with ease. This is a gift to you."
"As for tarrifs, I believe in limiting them as well."
Kaymiril
01-12-2005, 23:54
Teril took the pistol carefully, admiring it while keeping it pointed away from Kalgar and himself.
"It is a beautiful piece." He set it down beside him.
"I believe trade is already in a good place because of our policies. Have your minister of Commerce contact ours, and we can begin trade within the month."
"Good, good," said Kalgar. "Now we can get the plans for a military alliance set out. Gronde has a powerfull navy and a long-standing marshal tradition. We have the ability to live up to military obligations."
Kaymiril
02-12-2005, 01:16
"That we never doubted. The standard military agreement Kaymiril makes with allies is that if a hostile nation that is not an ally of us or an ally of one of our allies should attack your nation, our nation will send forces to intervene. Aboard will be mediators, but failing that, our forces will serve as military aid. We ask similar of our allies...should we be attacked, and it is not an ally of yours, or the ally of an ally, we ask that some small amount of military aid be dispatched from your nation."
"It sounds preaty basic," said Kalgar. "Perhaps my nation could help yours by arming your military with high tech weapons and other technology. We may even be able to help you create your own space marines."
Kaymiril
02-12-2005, 01:35
"Armament might be an acceptable course of action...but we will not subject our men to anything such as that at this point in time. Another nation has already offered to arm us, but at that point in time, the Valsharess found their offers unsuitable for our needs and desires at the time. Perhaps we will be able to accept your offer."
"Very well," Kalgar replied. "I will descuss specifics later on with the Valsharess. All that leaves is the prospect of joint research."
Kaymiril
02-12-2005, 01:47
"Very well. What sorts of subjects would be best to research? Military, Medical?"
"Well, I believe we should allow our respective research departments descuss this issue in more detail," explained Kalgar. "As a general statement, joint research is primarily to develope technologies that would be too expensive for one nation to research and produce. Both nations then share the researched technology resulting more resorce efficiency."
Kaymiril
02-12-2005, 02:00
Teril d' Kestal nodded.
"Then it appears our meeting has come to a close. Tomorrow, you should be ready to sign the document and conclude this business. Are you with us after that, or do you depart tomorrow?"
"Very well, it is good to see things move so efficiently," said Kalgar light-heartedly. "It's definately an improvement compared to other diplomatic meetings that I have attended. I will review and sign the document tomorrow. I will be staying for a few more days for diplomatic reasons--strong alliances aren't forged overnight, after all."
Kaymiril
02-12-2005, 02:28
"Then perhaps I will see you again."
He stood and made a slight bow. "Until then, good evening, Lord-and-Master of Gronde."
"You have a good evening as well," said Kalgar formally. "Ol zhahus natha ssrigg'tul talthalra dos. Bwael isto." Kalgar bowed and left the room.
Kaymiril
02-12-2005, 02:59
Teril smiled slightly, impressed at this foreigner's ability to exchange pleasantries in his tongue. He then left for his own residence.
Kalgar had an hour until the evening meal.
Kalgar returned to his room in the palace. He had a little time to relax until dinner. He very much liked Teril. He hoped that he would see him again.
Kaymiril
02-12-2005, 03:07
An hour later, servants came to inform their foreign guests that the evening meal was ready to be served.
The children (Aris, Newt XXII, Iral, and Andrew) were already there. Cael wasn't quite old enough to eat with everyone else, being an infant still.
Neither the Valsharess nor her sister would be attending.
Kalgar arrived to dinner on time. He had been running a reasonably impressive track record thus far. He was informed that the Valsharess would not be attending. It was understandable considering the circumstances.
Lawrence was waiting outside his cousins' room. He was in a formal white dining jacket, with black trousers and a black straight formal tie. After a few moments his cousins emerged from their chambers. The two Princes were dressed similarly to Lawrence, although Will made sure his medals were prominent.
The three men walked together to the dining hall, and waited by their seats until the guests would arrive.
Kaymiril
02-12-2005, 03:34
Kalgar was the only guest, and as he was on time, they could seat themselves.
Kalgar bowed to the other at the table.
"I am Kalgar, the Lord-and-Master of the Great Forge of Gronde," kalgar said formally. "I don't believe that we have been aquainted."
The three men returned the cordial greeting. Prince Newt responded "I am Crown Prince Newt XXI of Newtdom. This is my brother," he motioned his hand towards William, dressed in a well tailored black dining jacket, " Prince William. And this is my cousin," he motioned to Lawrence, in his white "Lord Lawrence Hollistein, Lord of the Foreign Ministry."
"It's a pleasure to meet you all," replied Kalgar, offering a handshake to the nearest man.
Lawrence stretched forth his hand "The pleasure is all mine,"
Newt grinned, "Well then let us sit down." He motioned for everyone to sit and prepare for the dinner.
Kalgar sat with the others. He decided to take the initiative to start up some conversation.
"So, Prince Newt," said Kalgar. "Tell me about your nation."
Kaymiril

The first course of the dinner was served. The portions were smaller than normal human portions, and the food was different, and best described as flavorful.
It had been made to suit human tastes, as the adults were humans, and two of the children had been eating human food all of their lives.

OOC: I take it this is closed?
OOC: Pretty much, yeah.
The three men and the children all began to eat. Enjoying the food that they had missed for several years.
Newt nodded to Kalgar, and began to speak "We are essentially an absolute monarchy, that has been in place for about 800 years. Traditionally, the Crown Prince is given the name of our founder, Newt Duke Winchester, who unified the many provinces in 1204. For the most part, the nobility is tightly alligned to the monarchy, either through marriage or economic ties. The people are given a great deal of freedom over all, although we have several practices outlawed for the good of the people. Our military is considered one of the most advanced, and largest in the world with about 500,000,000 active duty personel. Economically speaking we are vibrant, especially in technology, and defense material. If you have any specific questions, please ask. I would also like to learn about your nation, as well."

"Most interesting," said Kalgar. "I have been leading my nation for about 500 years. On a galactic scale, Gronde is one of the most powerful militaries in existence. We are an industrial power with a long-standing marshal tradition. We also have several million of the most feared warriors in the galaxy: Space marines. Our economy is highly industrialized and is centered around the production of ships and weapons."
Newt grinned, and Lawrence spoke up
"500 years you say? How is that possible?"
"I eat right and exersize daily," Kalgar explained before laughing softly. "I only jest. I am a Space Marine myself. The combination of our many implants grants us a life span far beyond that of a normal human."
Lawrence grinned "Well that explains it, I suppose."
William, the far more militaristic of the group, spoke up "How are your marines selected, and trained?...we are always looking for new ways."
"The selection of Space Marines is very exclusive," described Kalgar. "All citizens of Gronde serve in our military at some point in their life. The most gifted warriors are inducted into the Space Marines. Even then, only a handful survive the process. The training is very harsh as well. I couldn't go into much detail right now."
William nodded "We understand, we are just as secretive about our exclusive units ourselves."
Newt interjected, "Kalgar, if you do not mind me asking, what brings you to Kaymaril?"
"I am in Kaymiril to forge diplomatic relations," explained Kalgar. "If all goes well, Gronde and Kaymiril should be able military and economic allies."
Newt nodded "Superb, perhaps some day the same sort of alliance can be extended from our nation to yours."
Newt lifted his fork and knife, and began to eat the esquisite food placed infront of him.
"Perhaps," said Kalgar while preparing to eat. "But that is a conversation for another day."
Newt nodded "Of course, and I am not in the posistion to negotiate such a thing anyway. So how long are you going to be in Kaymiril?"
"Ah, I will be staying for another 3 days."
Newt grinned "Will it be all business? If not, we would be honored if you joined us in some recreational games."
Kalgar smiled.
"I appreciate the offer, but I will have to take you up on it at a later date."

The meal progressed, as did the evening afterwards.
There was always something to do around the Valshanth, normally...but today, the staff was taking their time to remember the former Valsharess...which left the guests of the current Valsharess with the ability to wander the grounds or retire to their rooms.
The evening progressed until it was time to retire.
Dora' returned to Newt late at night. They were staying in her old room. She was tired, and went straight to sleep. It had been a long day.
Kaymiril VII, however, could not sleep quite yet. Between all the chaos of the day, and the fact that her child would not settle, she couldn't sleep quite yet.
Kalgar had a meeting scheduled with her the next morning, but Dora' had told her to sleep...she'd take care of it.
Dora'nes had been away for fifteen years...had lost some of the closeness with her mother that her twin sister had enjoyed...and she also hadn't been a target of the previous day's attempted coup.
But most of all, Dora' knew that her sister was physically and mentally exhausted...she'd need all the time she could get. And...she was curious. Why would such a militant nation seek an alliance with the peaceable, quiet nation that she had come from?
___________________________________________________________________________
***Morning***
Kalgar was served a morning meal, and told to summon a servant when he wished to enter that morning's meeting.
Kalgar sent a reply stating that the meeting could begin whenever is convenient. Until then, he just sat in his room and meditated...much had happened in such a short time.
Kaymiril
08-12-2005, 03:21
He was sent for shortly. The message simply told him to come, instead of requesting his presence whenever was convenient.
Kalgar noticed that the servant's message seemed different than normal. He didn't pay it any attention at the time and simply followed.
Kaymiril
08-12-2005, 03:32
He was brought to the same room he'd been in with the Valsharess.
The woman who sat at the table had the same facial features as the Valsharess, and was dressed in formal Maril dress.
The only clues that this wasn't the Valsharess were her expression, which was more openly guarded upon first meeting anyone, and the colors of Newtdom pinned to her sleeve.
"Gre'as'anto lu' verve dro, Lord-and-Master Kalgar of Gronde. I am Dora'nes, sister to the Valsharess. My sister will be meeting with you later this afternoon, and I will be speaking with you this morning, at my own suggestion."
Kalgar sensed the difference in the presence in the room before Dora'nes spoke. The Newtdom colors on her sleeve helped to identify her further.
"It is a pleasure to meet you," said Kalgar formally, as he always did. "What is to be descussed today?"
Kaymiril
08-12-2005, 23:59
"My uncle informed me that all that was left to be discussed was now up to different agencies in each nation. So all that is left is for you to read over the document and sign it, unless you should feel that there are matters not to your satisfaction."
She held a scroll out to him.
Kalgar read over the document presented to him. It included what they had descussed and agreed upon; nothing more, nothing less. He gave his signature of approval.
Kaymiril
09-12-2005, 00:17
"You may give it to my sister later today, or you may give it to me now."
She let a silence signify the closing of the topic, and she then opened the next.
"Forgive me if you consider this rude...but why, exactly, is your nation interested in forging ties with Kaymiril?"
"Hmm, a fair question," replied Kalgar. "It makes sense that you would wish to know why an industrial and militaristic nation such as mine would seek to create an alliance with a peaceful nation such as yours. I was first told of your nation by one of my closer allies, the nation of Mini Miehm. I normally like to form diplomatic ties of some kind with any nation that there is a chance I would associate with. And why did I come here personally with the intentions of forging a more involved alliance with Kaymiril? Simply put, I was fascinated with what I heard about your nation and I knew that I would need to see it for myself."
Kaymiril
09-12-2005, 03:17
Dora' sensed that he was not telling the entire truth.
"And what are your impressions of my sister, the Valsharess?"
The question was unexpected, or at least the direct nature of the way it was asked was unexpected.
"The Valsharess seems to be a good leader," said Kalgar. "And given what she has been forced to deal with recently, I can conclude that your sister is a strong woman...more so than most people that I have met in my life. And, might I add, that includes some pretty tough competition." There was a slight smile on Kalgar's face when he spoke of her. It was so slight that he was not even aware of it himself.
Kaymiril
09-12-2005, 03:48
Dora'nes allowed a silence to hang while she thought.
She'd seen smiles similar to that one...most memorable in her mind was when Newt had been holding their first son once...he hadn't even known he was.
This was disturbing. This could potentially upset the entire political strata of Kaymiril.
Especially since Annastrianna tended to have more sympathy for this human race than she did. Dora' loved her husband and children...but she was wary of the race as a whole.
She wanted to tell this human, this Kalgar of a militaristic nation, that he should not allow himself to feel for the Valsharess...but she also knew that her younger twin sister was not only a sympathetic being...she was intelligent.
Dora' decided to end the conversation.
"My sister requested that I tell you to expect to meet her here two of your standard hours after the sun has reached its high point...noon, if you prefer."
Kalgar bowed and left the room. As he walked back to him room, he couldn't help but wonder what the Valsharess's sister was getting at. Dora' seemed to have nearly frightening insight. Kalgar didn't want to speculate at the moment and simply pushed the thoughts from his mind for the time. As he walked down one of the hallways, he recieved a message from Lysander.
"Good morning, sir," said Lysander.
"Ah, hello Lysander," Kalgar replied. "Is there a problem?"
"No sir," answered the Marine captain. "I just wished to discuss something with you."
"And what would that be?" inquired Kalgar, almost cheerfully.
"Well, sir, I am concerned that there may be another coup attempt while your stay continues. I would like to place a few marines for extra protection."
"Hmmm, I'm not sure if the Valsharess would approve of that," said Kalgar. "Besides, the gaurds here seem to be sufficient."
"True, but a second attack may be better prepared. Just trust my judgement."
"Very well, old friend," conceded Kalgar with a sigh. "I will offer, but I can't promise anything."
"Thank you, sir."
With that, Kalgar made detour to pay a brief visit to the Valsharess. He arrived at her door a few minutes later, and knocked to request entrance.
Kaymiril
09-12-2005, 04:26
The Valsharess was taking a brief rest from all that had happened.
She needed it...between her mother's funeral, the aftermath of the attempted coup, the hundred thousand other problems that she had to deal with daily, the royalty of Newtdom AND of Gronde at the Valshanth and requiring at least some of her personal attention, as well as the facts that Aris and Iral needed some of her attention and the child she carried had refused to settle for several hours, she could feel her demeanor beginning to fray.
She sat back up and bid an attendant to open the door. She gave Kalgar an easy-seeming smile and greeting as he was ushered in.
"Please, have a seat. Was there something you wished to speak of before this afternoon?"
Kalgar entered the room and took the offered seat. Anna tried to hide it, but Kalgar could easily tell that she was very tired. He found himself wishing that he had waited until later, but since he was already there...
"I'm very sorry to disturb you," said Kalgar. "But Captain Lysander asked that I request permission to place some Space Marines in the palace for additional protection in case another coup is attempted."
Kaymiril
09-12-2005, 04:37
"That shouldn't be necessary. Several of our most elite units of soldiers live within sight of the Valshanth, and security in the building itself has been raised."
"Are you sure that it wouldn't be possible?" asked Kalgar. "Lysander seemed rather insistant about it."
Kaymiril
09-12-2005, 04:51
An edge crept into the Valsharess's voice.
"Who within the Valshanth could attempt again? My thirteen-year-old daughter? My sister, who is to be an empress in her husband's country? The warriors that have sworn their lives to protect me?"
Her voice had begun to raise in volume.
"How could anyone attempt to attack from within these borders, when all conspirators are being rounded up with their families and executed? When all noble families are being kept under close scrutiny, and all members of all private armies are being questioned and watched?"
She was yelling now, and tears ran unchecked down her cheeks.
"Hell is happening in my nation, and you and I sit here, in comfort...nay, in luxury, and you ask to bring in your human tanks!"
She realized how she was behaving, and whirled around, walking to a window. She brought a hand to her face, and took a moment or two to compose herself some.
"If you would feel that your safety would be more assured if you have your Marines patrolling the grounds, you may bring a few. But for now, please leave. Our meeting is scheduled in four hours from now."
Kalgar was tempted to make a rebuttal, but he realized that it didn't even matter. He approached her cautiously. He knew what she was going through, as he himself had suffered it in the past. Perhaps, the queen's suffering was even worse. At least Kalgar was able to fight to protect those he cared about during his nation's wars. He placed a hand on her shoulder.
"Tears are not a sign of weakness," said Kalgar softly. "To show emotion is often more difficult than suppressing it."
Kaymiril
09-12-2005, 05:07
"Please just go."
Her voice was soft...subdued...but she would not ask again, as evident from her voice.
"Very well," replied Kalgar quietly, turning to leave. "I'm sorry I desturbed you." The memory of his own family's death reflected clearly in his mind as we walked towards the door. "Not all burdons need to be carried alone."
Kaymiril
09-12-2005, 23:09
The door closed softly behind him as he left, leaving the Valsharess as alone as one could get in this building.
As Kalgar walked back to his room, he still wasn't sure what exactly happened; he didn't want to figure it out at that moment anyways. Then he remembered why he had gone there in the first place and opened a private communication with Lysander.
"Lysander," said Kalgar. "I'm going to need to order that the space marines remain on the Battle Barge. They aren't going to be needed."
"But sir--" Lysander began, but Kalgar jumped in.
"I made the offer to the Valsharess herself."
"But surely you could have convinced her to allow them in," said Lysander.
"It's not worth it!" snapped Kalgar. He quickly regained his composure. "Their queen has been through enough and is still dealing with many things. I don't want to distress her further with something as trivial as this."
"I see," said Lysander. "But I must say, I haven't seen you this worked up about a foreign leader since you went to Corpsa--Oh dear god..."
"What?"
"Don't tell me that your...oh nevermind."
"Lysander!?"
"It's nothing, sir. The marines will stay here as you requested." With that, the com-link was broken leaving Kalgar standing in the dim hallway...realizing that those around him may know more about himself than he did.

Dora' had seen Kalgar leave her sister, and she slipped in not long after.
"Anna..." she'd been about to ask her sister if she was all right...but it was obvious that she wasn't.
Dora'nes stayed with her sister for about an hour, comforting her, before she left to let her sister attend to other matters at hand.
At two hours past meridian, Valsharess Kaymiril VII was sitting in the meeting hall, utterly composed.
Kalgar arrived at the meeting hall on schedule. He saw the Valsharess waiting. She seemed to be much more stable than she was earlier. Kalgar wasn't sure how much of it was acting, it didn't matter at that time anyways. Kalgar took a seat.
"Good afternoon."

"Good afternoon. Before we begin, I would like to apologize for my outburst this morning. It was uncalled for, and you and your men have nothing to do with what has happened here during these last few days."
She let the topic close.
"Otherwise, the treaty between our two nations has been signed by both parties and goes into effect tomorrow morning, at least here. A copy is being delivered to your ship."
"That is quite alright," said Kalgar. "I was in error. Besides," Kalgar continued, allowing himself to smile. "I must say, calling the Space Marines 'Human tanks' is quite accurate. Just don't tell Lysander that I said that."
"As for the treaty, it will be put into effect as soon as I return home."

"All right...it appears that the business aspect of your visit to Kaymiril has been concluded."

Three days later
It was time for Kalgar to leave, and return to his own nation.
The Valsharess had accompanied him as far as his ship, and then she guestured for a servant to come forward.
"It is customary for us to send our guests onward with a gift." She took the box the servant brought forward and held it out to Kalgar.
"So we ask that you accept this one."
Kalgar accepted the gift and bowed. One of his own servants then brought him a long, thin item wrapped in black cloth. He took the bundle, removed it from the cloth. It was a sword, a Katana, in an ornate sheath. It's handle, however, was identical to Kalgar's blade and upon closer inspection, it became apparent that his sword was no longer being worn at his waste as it had been for his stay.
"This is both a gift and an invitation," said Kalgar holding the sword before her. "I would like for you to visit my nation's capital in the future."

The Valsharess reached out to accept the gift. Her eyes had long been able to quickly and correctly grasp and analyse details.
Including this.
This is his blade...if what stories I've heard are true...this would be a gift not lightly given at all.
"We thank you for this gift...and I would be more than honored to visit your nation, after a few months have passed."
"That would be superb," said Kalgar. "I agree, it would be best to wait a few months first, considering your upcomming child-birth." With that, he bowed one last time before heading up the ramp onto his ship, box under his arm. Before he walked in, he couldn't help but look back one last time.

The Valsharess had made a slight bow as Kalgar did, and was still there, watching him depart.
Half a dozen small fighters hovered in the crystalline blue sky, their crimson color sharply contrasting the vast expanse of blue before them.
They were ready to send Kalgar home with all formality and splendor.
Kalgar watched the display as his ship exited atmosphere. It was quite impressive, as good as many of Gronde's best pilots. He walked through the command room, for formalities sake, and headed for his room. As he walked down the familliar hallway, Lysander met up with him.
"Welcome back, sir," said Lysander. "How was your stay?"
"Not bad at all," replied Kalgar. "But it's good to be back on my ship." Lysander's trained eyes suddenly darted to Kalgar's waist.
"Kalgar, where is your sword?" Lysander asked, slightly desturbed.
"It's in Kaymiril," Kalgar said without batting an eye.
"You what?!" asked Lysander. "I would have needed to pry it from your dead hands to get it away from you. What do you mean you left it there?"
"I gave it to their Valsharess as a gift," Kalgar explained casually.
"Kalgar, what are you trying to do? Do I even want to know what's going on?!"
"Probably not," said Kalgar as he walked away. "I will see you when we arrive back home." With that, Lysander was left standing in the hallway in not-so mild shock.
Man...he's got it bad, the Space Marine thought to himself.
Meanwhile, Kalgar investigated the contents of the package he was sent off with.

The Kaymirilian fighters darted around and over Kalgar's ship in a stunning display of skill and insanity, before breaking off as it prepared to make the transition to faster-than-light speeds.
The Valsharess returned home, and hung the sword in her office. It was well made...and would be handy, in the event that there was another attack at some point. It was inevitable, really.
***************************************
In the box Kalgar had been given, there was a solid cylinder of an unidentified metal about the size of a soda can, and a text (translated into Common) describing how it was used.
It was a glider, a transportation device unique to Kaymiril. This particular variety was a Phoenix...a combat variety.
In its companion form, it resembled the legendary bird of fire...but in its riding/battle forms, it could be utilized to create flame attacks. It also had razor-sharp edges, allowing for the device itself to be a weapon. It also had communications devices, and could communicate with any other Kaymirilian glider, and be programmed to communicate with other devices (with some trouble).

"Are you going to say 'Hello' or just stare at me for the next hour?" a voice asked. Kalgar was startled, but he soon realized that it was comming from the "glider."
"Um...hello." They wouldn't be at a loss for conversation.
