Fantasy Earth Rules

This is an RP game in which players either play as a kingdom and try to control the world, or as a god and try to help your faithful to victory, and smite down the unfaithful. The game will start with early bronze age and end whenever technology becomes difficult to combine with the magic [1850s?].

General

The time scale will start at 1 real day = 1 game year. It will be slowed down when necessary (major wars and similar). If nothing is happening, the gods will be prompted to cause some major event. New players can always be added during the game. Gods are obliged to help noobs so that they have a chance at getting a good start. Each nation has one main god, who is responsible to enforce proper play. A god can be the main god of more than one nation. Good role playing is enforceable, and gods will punish bad Role Players. Battles will be resolved by the concerned parties. If they cannot agree, the main gods of the nations will decide. If they cannot agree, I will decide.

Gods

(Please note that I do not count a normal god in these rules)
When a player creates a new god, he must give himself: A name, a domain (as in what he’s the god of), an alignment (Good/Evil, Chaotic/Lawful), and anything else which my be necessary to describe the god. I will then assign some nations to believe in him and at least one nation to have him as head god. A god must be fair, He may not ignore gifts from a nation and cannot favor a nation which does nothing to worship him. Different gods have different powers and amounts of power. A god’s power will notably depend on how many nations worship him, a god worshiped by a barbaric tribe will have notably less effect on the game as a deity worshiped by 20 world superpowers. I will tell each god what powers he has and how frequently he may use them. If a god wants another power, he may ask me and I might accept. Gods which Role Play badly will have powers removed and I will have worshipers forget him.
Gods may also take a physical form. This can either be as an apparition, in which case he cannot take any major action, like joining a battle (however, you may come down in the form of a bull and rape an innocent maiden). Otherwise a god may be a mortal with god-powers. It will not die of old age but you can be stabbed, poisoned, etc. If it dies the player will continue as a normal god. This is interesting as a major advantage in battle, or a goddess can marry a king and be extremely helpful to one nation.
As gods, you are responsible to ensure good Role Playing. Smite down the bad players with all your wrath.

Kings, Emperors, And Similar

When a new nation is created, it will have one large town and the area around it, or something equivalent. It will be assigned a main god, but it may choose any other gods to worship. They may also be assigned other gods to “believe in” The player will be allowed to decide on the kind of culture his nation has, including language, moral values, religion, and everything else interesting. Remember that nations must not necessarily be human. Each nation will create characters for important roles in their nation, the king obviously, and things like high priests, generals and any other important character. If a player wishes to give a character magic powers, he can ask a god. Gods may also provide you with powerful heroes now and then, or powerful characters opposed to the moral values of your nation. Good Role Playing will of course be enforced by your gods, and a god which you do not “believe in” may not directly affect your nation. If you think a god is being unfair, you may telegram me about it.

Battles

Please note the following is just a suggestion. You can resolve wars any way you agree on.
A nation may send an army out to attack another nation at any time. The player informs that nation of anything it should know about it, and his opponent’s main god about anything he shouldn’t know. The nation being attacked then explains his reaction and says what that player’s main god then tells the result of the battle. No changes can be made from this point. If both nations agree the god’s judgment was unfair, they may agree upon how the battle went and cancel the god’s judgment. Else, the god’s judgment is final. Remember that you can always report an unfair god to me. The defender thus has an advantage because if his god is favorable to him he may give him some info about the enemy before the battle, but the judgment must be 100% unbiased.

Weak monsters are the most common, if Mythological creatures ever come common, in the litter. They are defeat able on the field of battle and some of them need big groups to function properly. Weak monsters usually use wits over brute strength in battle. They do not need the help of a god to capture. Weak these creatures are labeled but are quite strong. They could each by themselves could take on a company of human soldiers, a company is 10-20 men.

Potent Creatures are much stronger and will need a massive amount of people power or the god to capture it. Most use brute strength if they ever encounter a problem. This usually makes them more easier to fall under the tricks of a ploy but they usually over simplify things, an example “crushed things, and not crushed things”. In potent creatures special abilities are more widespread, as mostly shown by the medusas ability at petrifying enemies.

Powerful beasts cannot be defeated by man alone. A group of heroes with great loss of life yes, but the only really good thing to do is ask a god for help. In this cast these monsters employ wits with an series of special powers make them aggressive even if they play light. In this caste the first appearances of real magic are seen in the Mummy and Lampades while aggressive wittiness shown in the Minotaur.

Anubite-A sickle* toting wolf man (not a were-wolf) who advances by great bounds across the battlefield
Jackal, not wolf.

A chimera with the head of a man, the body of a (often red) lion and the tail of a dragon or scorpion, which may fire poisonous spikes to incapacitate prey.
Scylla- Water bound cousin to Hydra it looks like a dinosaur and kills by smashing it‘s head on opponents ship, it grows more heads as it kills
Scylla has the face and torso of a woman, but from her flanks grow six long necks equipped with dog heads, each of which contained three rows of sharp teeth. Her body consisted of twelve canine legs and a fish's tail.
That is, unless the creatures will all be based upon the monsters in Age of Mythology.

Yes, Relative Liberty is correct about the Scylla. Read The Odyssey for more info (it might be the Illiad, but not sure).

So, I was reading the list, and it looks like only one of the monster assigned to me a Wadjet, which has nothing to do with smiths or defenses or anything. Some of the monsters (most, I believe) are assigned to gods that don't even exist!
Relative Liberty

The Odyssey tells of Odysseus' journey from Troy back home to his wfie Peneloppe and is son Telemachos on Ithaca, after the Trojan War. The Iliad is an epic poem like the Odyssey, but it tells the story about the Trojan War (from the beginning with Thetis and the apple, to the fall of troy and the departure of the Greek heroes [although it does say what happened to Agamemnon when he got home, I can't recall it saying anything 'bout the others] to their native homes).

The nonexistant gods, I beleive, are the different aspects of the main gods.

Correction: The Iliad says nothing of the return of Agamemnon, but ends when Achilles allows Priam to have Hector's body.

What of the creation of golems and other such magical constructs? They don't really count as mythical creatures, because they are not really alive, so I came up with a solution:

I would be able to make metal golems, Arden would make stone golems, Aphelia would make wooden golems, Etrikai would make blood/clay goems, and Spardlakon would make bone golems. That work for everyone?

Of course, being the smith god, I think it is only fair that I am the one who makes magical constructs. Of course, you will probably suspect me of godmodding...

Sorry, I forgot to put the Automation as the god of Smiths and you can easily get the Colossus. Sound good? Also the other gods are for if anyone else joins. Some smaller little tidbits, I refrained from putting a real dragon so that the dragons themsleves could either be played by someone or that dragons be themselves, individual and not one big nation. Another, should mermaids be included? I didn't know but seeing Harry Potter the 4 makes you think of a different little mermaid.

Einhauser
25-11-2005, 23:02
See, that didnt really answer my question. A golem is differant than an Automaton. Very differant. Plus, a Construct is more like a Elemental than a robot.

If the only ythology you know comes from AoM, you should probably start browsing wikipedia.
Moorington
25-11-2005, 23:06
No were talking about units, and when it comes to quanity AoM is the best source. Also the question about the golems, I think you have been reading the Bartmous Trilogy to much but sure we can count them. I would like himans to build them but the gods to give them powers, so each golem by each god is different.
Otagia
25-11-2005, 23:09
Personally, I'd really prefer if we DIDN'T just use critters from AoM, as they often mutilate the descriptions and backstory of their beasties nearly beyond recognition. I would prefer either NEW critters (honestly, it's not that hard) or little known ones, like Kelpies and Each Usages (sp), maybe Korobokuru or other eastern critters.
Moorington
25-11-2005, 23:17
Anyone you would prefer to change please inform me and I would be happy to change it. Also, the little stuff behind each creature is actually me changing it for this world. I do not think we can have Valkyries flirting around for one certain god, for when I put most associated with it is just a beginning idea. Not who it has to be with. The whole problem is around can one creature be available for many people or just one.
Otagia
25-11-2005, 23:28
Yes, but using ANY of those kinda conflicts horridly with the Mythos that we have set up so far, and that's neglecting the fact that most if not all of the monsters you posted are horridly mangled from their original status. A unicorn is NOT a horse with a horn, it has the beard of a goat, the body of a stag and the hindquarters of a horse. A Sphinx is NOT a clay statue, from the Greeks, it's a lion with wings of a bird of prey, and the head and forebody of a human. From the Egyptians, it's a symbolic representation of Pharoah. The Hekagigantes were the Hundred-Handed Ones, and had 100 arms and 100 (or 10) heads, wielding a weapon in each one. Essentially ALL of the Egyptian ones are mutilated, and the Greek ones use singular people transformed into monsters by the Gods. If you want something like Medusa, call it a Gorgon for chrissakes, and multiple Scyllas or Charybdis are just galling.

Just post something competent (which is correct spelling and full sentences) and you will be in. Shortly afterwords use that info and form it into a whole other topic, so you can add little things that give your naton a "you" feel. Make sure I get it though.

Valkyrie were those who harvested the souls of the fallen warriors and sorted them between Odin and Freya's hall.
Satyr were men witht he lower body of a goat, and the upper body of a human with horns. They were nothing like centaur.
Prometheus was a titan, not a clay man.
Hydra grew two heads as one was cut off, as well as having a single 'immortal' head that could not be cut off.

Just a few of the errors that should be corrected.
Also, many of the gods that you attributed monsters to, don't exist.

Why can't I use the word Gods? It's pretty much required in this RP, as several of us are RPing as Gods. Anyway, my point is not that you should fix these descriptions, but that you should scrap them altogether and work on making new creatures more befitting our pantheon and established mythology.
