Unified Areas

“Good morning, this is the Unified Areas Central News Service, and here is our virgin broadcast for the new nation.”
The brand new studio was one of several in the UACNS building in Faraway in the northern state. The Central News Service had been chartered by the new government of the Unified Areas as a public service, independent from the government but funded via central government taxes. When taxes began collecting, that is – the current broadcast was being paid for by loans from the new Central Bank. The Government would have to pay that back in the future. As if the new Central Government did not have enough problems already…
“Our top story tonight – in the aftermath of the Referendum on Unification, the populations of Faraway, Serenity, Hope and Frontier, 5 million people in total, have voted in a majority for the creation of a unified nation between the four states of the island and the establishment of a central government.”
The news reporter shuffled his papers and looked up again at the teleprompter. The screen behind her changed to show the new flag of the Unified Areas. “According to the referendum, the new central government will be established as a National Assembly where representatives from each state will be sent to establish laws and develop a Constitution. An independent Justice Court will be created in order to oversee the laws created by the National Assembly to ensure that these do not infringe the rights of the people, and an executive wing of the government will be created as President of the Unified Areas.”
The screen changed again, a slightly more disturbing scene now, displaying recorded footage from protests in some of the towns. The reporter continued. “However, the new government already faces problems. Although a majority of 80 percent voted in favour of the establishment of the Unified Areas, there was a large boycott of the referendum, most notably in the southern state of Frontier and, to a lesser degree, the mid-south state of Hope. Other cities witnessed smaller protests, but not on the degree of severity seen in Frontier.”
“The government also faces issues regarding taxes, which have been declared as unconstitutional by several state government officials, again most notably in the south of the Unified Areas. Alongside this, the establishment of a national military force has raised debate in several groups, mainly relating to their relation with the current state militias.”
“I’m David Spencer, and this has been Unified Areas Central News Service.”

The Unified Areas is interested in establishing diplomatic ties between this nation and the Northern Colonies. This would be subject to review after the first elections to the National Assembly and the new government comes to power, however it is likely that these ties would still remain.

Message from the State of Amestria; Ministry of Foreign Affairs
We greet the new nation of the Unified Areas and look forward to establishing diplomatic relations. Furthermore, we wish to send our States support to the central government in the face of threats to its authority from illegitimate local agencies and violent minority.
We thank the State of Amestria for their wish to open diplomatic relations and will keep in mind their offer of support should any problems arise with local minorities. We will indeed open relations, subject to revision by whatever democratically elected government comes to power in the Unified Areas.

“Good Afternoon, this is UACNS. I’m Peter Moyer, and this is tonight’s top story.”
“Election results for the first central government of the Unified Areas have been officially declared. There were some issues in the southern state of Frontier, where protests by separatist and libertarian groups had to be dispelled by State Militia units as they blocked voting booths for those wishing to take part in the elections. Elsewhere, there were several peaceful protests across the country, although none had to be moved from obstructing democratic rights.”
“The Provisional Charter of the Unified Areas has jointly agreed that the party with the most seats in the National Assembly following the elections will form the government and the party leader become President of the Unified Areas. We now go to the poll results.”
The screen behind the newsreader changed to display a bar chart diagram showing the new outline of the National Assembly, each bar being colour-coded for a different party and the number of seats listed underneath.
Total Seats: 300 (Elected from City Representatives)
Liberal Democratic Party: 53
Federalist Unification Party: 162
Fascist Party of the Unified Areas: 10
Unified Areas Marxist Party: 23
UA Separatist Alliance: 52
“As we can see from the following results, the Federalist Unification Party has achieved government with a majority of 185 City Representatives. The leader of the Party, Richard Bergman, will be inaugurated as President later today, and has promised to follow his party’s pledge to strengthen the central government and go to greater steps to unify the separate states into a cohesive national unit. The President is also expected to go on with his party’s scheme to begin settlement of the rest of the nation, outside of the four City States that have traditionally been the only settlements in the Unified Areas. President Bergman has also announced he will maintain diplomatic ties created by the Provisional Government previously.”
“There have been calls from the City Senate of Frontier that the election of the National Assembly is illegitimate and holds no power over individual states. Whilst there has been no official statement made, several officials have commented off the record about movements by the largely southern-backed UA Separatist Alliance to block the creation of the new Constitution of the Unified Areas, and indeed further lawmaking by the National Assembly.”
“I am Peter Moyer, and this has been UACNS.”

Dyik Raah: We gladly thank and wish to accept your offer of diplomatic relations and free trade agreements with DR-Tech. Our government would also be interested in your mining techniques as our industries expand with the settlement of the rest of our country's land, and in return wishes to offer Dyik Raah vessels safe haven within Unified Area ports in times of war and peace, should they be required. If this is acceptable, than such an agreement would like to be pursued.
Northern Colonies: We wish to accept your offer of military training once a collective military force is established. At present, the Unified Areas maintains 4 seperate State Militias controlled by each state. A unified armed force will be most likely drawn from bringing these militias together, and we welcome your assistance once this occurs.
Veltmeria: We thankyou for your congratulations and would like to enter negotiations for an Alliance, for example involving a free trade agreement and and some sort of Non-Aggression Pact.
Incandernia: We thank the Empire for their congratulations and wish their nation luck in its own further growth and development.
Ackerenia: We gladly accept your offer of establishing diplomatic and economic relations, and wish to offer the same agreement to your nation as offered to Veltmeria.

TO: Donald Peterson, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic States of Unified Areas
FROM: USNSEA Minister of Foreign Affairs Joshua Lin
SUBJECT: DSUA Founding
With the founding of Unified Areas, we congratulate them on the founding of their nation. We also look forward to establishing diplomatic relations with the DSUA, after a secure armed forces are established. We have a few suggestions for the safety of the President of the DSUA, and for some wise states to establish diplomatic relations with. The Elusion SUV (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=9622097&postcount=470), designed and produced by DMI, should be an effective transport for your leader. The world's best shipyards are located in Sarzonia (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=404832), and it would most certainly be wise to establish diplomatic relations with them (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=351513) and request for assistance in training your navies. Also, Mr. Neo, Prime Minister of our nation, was pleased at their Diplomacy-class executive yacht and Chieftain-class executive submarine (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=8432483&postcount=6) (OOC: scroll down to see their stats), so you may also want to see that as well. Also, the Leafanistani COAM (Council of Arms Manufacturers) (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=433522) for inexpensive but nice tanks (the AVT-90 is a good one).
I sure hope that you liked the companies we suggested, and as soon as you establish a secure armed forces, we can develop diplomatic relations. Until then!
Yours Truly,
His Excellency,
USNSEA Minister of Foreign Affairs
Joshua Lin

"Welcome to the world. It is a hostile and violent place dominated by egotistical, arrogant humans who have no regard for the lives of their own warriors or those of other nations. There are nations here who will destroy you for no other reason than the fact that they can, whilst others will tell you what you should believe, and how you should run your nation. Dishonour is commonplace in this world.
But I have a feeling that you will not be the kind of people who will let them do so willingly. This pleases me. Good luck and honour to you. We shall meet again I am sure."
