Developed 5 years ago by the Coalition of Arms Industries (CAI) it was designed to be deployed to countries being occupied and needed a static defense system that was also mobile and could be rapidly deployed to protect valuable areas.
Historically checkpoints and defensive perimeters required several days to set up chain-link fences, heavy duty gates, concrete barriers, sandbag walls, supporting structures and machine gun mounts. To solve this problem the original Eastlake-class MDV (Mobile Defensive Vehicle) was created. However it suffered from severe problems that reduced its deployment numbers including heavy traditional armour, underpowered engine, and lack of firepower. Designers soon went to work on Project Westlake and 5 years ago their projects resulted in the finished design. It is a modular system that allows the mounting of extra components on their core system.
The Westlake uses newer composite armour made of Titanium-Boron-Iridium Alloy with Tungsten fibers "sown in" that allow the armour to crack and split but not give way. The Boron offered intermediate radiation protection that deflected the blast of a Rad Cannon and protected the sheeps tied inside from radiation poisoning from 20 meters away. The engine is a new gas turbine engine with a hydrogen relay box that converts electricity made by the gas turbine engine into hydrogen via electrolysis. It gives the Westlake up to 40% greater efficieny and allows it greater range and power than it normally would have.
The original 5.56mm guns mounted on the Eastlake were pathetic and were simply mounted infantry weapons. This time 2 7.92mm gun turrets with Aluminium-Tungsten sheilds one on each side with a 190 degree angle of rotation give the Westlake superior firepower from infantry threats. A front mounted 20mm gun gives its a punishing punch against APCs. The top has a comphrehensive NBC threat detector with dosimeters, Gieger counters, and biochips that sound an alarm in the presense of nuclear threats, the most common biological threats and chemical threats. An integrated RADAR, LIDAR, and IR system provide an unparelleled view of the battlefield that the Westlake is being considered for a mobile command center. Also on the top the modular turret system allows the mounting of various types of equipment.
2 Large Aluminium-Steel panels extend from the sides with attachable Aluminium-Tungsten roofs to provide extra firing rooms, with openings for up to 6 Infantry Weapons (Pistols to a RPG-29). The Westlake also contains a space for holding up to 8 ATGMs or 15 shells, chain link fencing, and infantry weapons. All and all the Westlake followed by infantry vehicles can set up a defensive position in mere hours and is mobile. It can cover up to 40 meters and its supporting wall vehicles can add another 50 meters at a time of fencing.
Quick Stats
Length: 10 meters
Width: 4 meters (with extended walls 10 meters)
Height: 3 meters
Top Speed: 45 kph (its a heavy mobile bunker)
Weight: 65 metric tonnes
Armour: 350mm of Titanium-Boron-Iridium Armour with Tungsten Fibres as the core armour
Armament: 2 * 7.92mm Antipersonnel Machine Guns, 1 front mounted 20mm autocannon for AntiMaterial Use, 1 modular turret [default is 20mm autocannon turret]
Crew: 1 commander, 1 driver, 3 gunners, expandable for up to 12 additional people behind the extendable shields.
Cost per unit: $1,300,000 US
The Westlake is accompanied by the Lunar-class Support Vehicle, based on the BMP-2 platform it uses an upgraded armour system, along with the removal of the heavy turret to be replaced with an open top and either a quad .50 cal AA mount or a 7.92mm Gatling Cannon. It also uses a expandable sheild system to help support infantry and carries chain link fencing for expanding defenses.
Quick Stats
Length: 7 meters
Width: 3 meters
Height: 3 meters
Armour: 75mm of Aluminium-Steel armour in the core system
Top Speed: 55 kph
Armament: Either a quad .50 cal AA mount [default] or a 7.92mm Gatling Cannon
Crew: 1 driver, 1 commander, 1 gunner, add up to 12 more supporting infantry
Cost: $350,000 US per unit
Extras
The core system on the Westlake only has a 20mm Autocannon, extras can be procured that enhance armour and firepower.
Extras can be mounted on both the Westlake and the Lunar.
Turrets
100mm smoothbore turret: $75,000 US
30mm Autocannon: $45,000 US
