Hungary Declares War on Japan

Due to Japan's flagrant entanglement in Chinese domestic affairs and its blatant human rights violations in using chemical weapons, Hungary hereby declares war on Japan. Hungary will maintain its embassy in Japan however, in hopes that both nations may someday soon become friends.

Election Results for 1934
People’s Coalition:
Social Democratic Party (Socialists): 81 Seats
Socialist Workers Party (Communists): 12 Seats
Total Seats: 93
National Hungarian Coalition:
Smallholders Party (Moderate): 40 Seats
Hungarian Democratic-Republicans (Moderate): 23 Seats
Hungarian People's Party (Moderately Conservative): 15
Total Seats: 78
Independent Parties:
Freedom Party (Extreme Right-wing): 10
Magyar Army (National Socialists): 9

ooc: The changes that occured from the last elections are basically that the people are increasingly unhappy with the closeness with the Union and the fact that the Hungarian army is being sent of to die in the Chinese Civil War. This causes a backlash against the People's Coalition in favor of the more moderate National Hungarian Coalition.

Hungary was becoming more restless with the resent over the governments ‘closeness’ (see its military support of Union military intervention in China) and the perceived belief that the Socialist/Communist lead government was ignoring the long-held Christian morals. Finally it came to head in a brief orgy of violence that left almost a dozen Hungarian Communists or suspected communists in Szeged dead. Finally it came time for change. Premier Imry Nagy, never a supporter of Hungary’s affair with the Union made a stunning statement to the Hungarian Parliament:

“The rights of the people has not always been important to Hungary. During the Duel Monarchy our government ruthlessly oppressed the minorities in Hungary, even as they grew to out number the Magyars. Yet the Great War taught us humility and reminded us that all people are equal before law and before God.

Yet are any of us truly free in Hungary? The protestors in Szeged and Budapest would say we are not. Yet they did not attack Russians or Germans or Romanians. They attacked Hungarians. They did knew who their oppressors are and so do I. It is the ruling oalition which continues to ignore the very group that their name includes; the people ladies and gentlemen. They are the ones who elect us and give us the mandate to rule.

Pauses for Applause

I dearly hope that this is a surprise to you. I sincerely hope that no government is this knowingly corrupt. But I am here to tell you ladies and gentlemen, if there is one thing I will not be a part of it is the willful participation in ignoring those who have given me my mandate to rule.

Today is a new day for Hungary. Today is the first day of a government ‘by the people and for the people.’ Today is the first day of the Peace Party which will do whatever is best for Hungary and not whatever is best for the ruling party. Today….today is a new day.

ooc: will add an updated makeup of the Parliment soon.

OOC: To be picky, I don't think any Hungarians died. They were going to follow the Union Armies and would have maintained limited casualties. Considering no Union soldiers died, I think it would be safe to say that the same went for Hungary. Rumania on the other hand...

OOC:
Nope, but its the fact that the government was willing to let them die for a cause that the population of Hungary didn't support.

Kaiser Maximilian personally announced today the lifting of a ban on several Roma (Gypsy) political groups along with several German, Slavic, and Romanian activist groups which had been banned since the dissolution of Austria-Hungary. He said that “…for to long have we oppressed the people’s of Hungary because of who their ancestors were or what religion they practiced. No longer shall this be the case. All people should and now have the right to free speech and a good education. Today every man and woman in Hungary is free!”

The Kaiser also outlined several government-funded activities to promote voting among the minorities that had previously been banned from doing so. Also, he announced several women’s rights laws, alongside of his wife, which would give equal rights to women in the workplace.

In order to familiarize the reserve units with their new equipment (they’re being upgraded from infantry to motorized), Hungary will be commencing military exercises near the town of Gjula near the Hungarian-Rumanian border. The reserve units that are activated will be rotated through as each unit receives its new equipment.

In part of a nation-wide tour of Hungary, Kaiser Maximilian continued his urging of a united Hungarian people, regardless of ethnicity, sex or religious beliefs. He also announced that restrictions on Unions will be gradually reduced in order to end the ‘suffering of the common working man.’

This is the first time Kaiser Maximilian has taken advantage of what some call a constitutional loophole that allows him to turn legislation he had submitted into law if Parliament does not vote against it within one months of its submission.
