Goso and Comino Begins Campaign to Increase Foreign Investment, Reports Associated Press

AP, Silema, Comino – In a city of only 200,000, on an island of just 300 sq km, on would not expect to find a National Legislature. No would one expect to find a populace so progressive and globally-minded. Yet if you ask anyone on the street, they will tell you of a world much larger than their own, and of how their small nation fits into it.

Comino is one part of a two-island federation called the Allied States of Goso and Comino which sits precariously in the central Mediterranean. Never heard of it? Little surprise. With Comino’s 344,000 people and Goso’s 87,000, Goso and Comino are two of the smallest countries in the world today, and – in a global community of billion-person giants – something of an oddity.

For most of their long and surprisingly unique history, Goso and Comino have been passed over by the eyes of the world. It was with surprise and some confusion, then, that many in the international community first heard of the two tiny nations when they issued a joint proposal to the world as a whole, calling for foreign nations and businesses alike to take notice of the Gosian and Cominan people and the economic opportunities they represented.

This communication – the first state communiqué in some forty years – coincided with a massive campaign funded by the Gosian and Cominan Governments designed to increase regional awareness of Goso and Comino, and to expand a dwindling tourism market which had long helped sustain the two islands. I had an opportunity to speak with Giovanni Velerio, the Don of Silema and head of Comino’s ancient Parliament, the Domis Donei, about his administrations new campaign.

“I think it’s all perfectly logical. In this global world we live in, there are opportunities everywhere. All I am trying to do is remind people of one such opportunity they have often overlooked. With our harbors and airport, and our thriving tourist industry, we are a great opportunity for businesses everywhere to invest in, and, in the interest of all Cominan and Gosian people, I find myself obliged to remind the world of that fact. In this international world, no one can stay isolated and still thrive. All I and my Gosian colleague have done is make one more effort to allow our people to thrive.”

Official Government Communiqué
1/07 Platea-Ordaneto, Silema, Comino

Greetings. It is on behalf of the Cominan people and at the request of the Parliament which represents them that I am writing to you today. No doubt, few if any of you, know my name. I am Giovanni Velerio, elected leader of the Domis Donei, and leader of the Allied States of Goso and Comino.

The reason, perhaps, why so few of you who are reading this know my name is fear. For years, Goso and Comino have sat unshakable in the Mediterranean, but not once has a leader dared venture beyond our shores and expose his people to the eyes of the world. Now, though, in a world small as ours, we are able to transcend whatever fear has kept our people separate and enter into the international community. As part of this entry into the world, of the opening of my country, I thus encourage you, my fellow leaders of the world, to enter into diplomatic ties with my people and to establish bonds of friendship which transcend our national boundaries. I furthermore remind you of the opportunities which Goso and Comino represent. I invite you, come see what lies beyond our shores, what our people and yours may gain from one another. We are here, and we await the response of the world.

-Singed, Don Giovanni Velerio.

Foreign minister Vjollner stared at his aide. "And who are these people again?"

"You have almost all we know on that communique in your hand, sir. The only other thing we know is that they have a total population of 431,000 people."

"And what is it they want?"

"They haven't specified yet, just general relations."

"Hmmm. This could be an ideal oppurtunity to steal a march on the rest of the world. Okay, put together a message, tell them we're interested or something. Now if you'll excuse me, I have an appointment with the golf course."

"Yes sir."

His Majesty’s Government wishes to extend greetings and salutations to the Allied States of Goso and Comino in the interest of opening diplomatic and commercial relations. The United Kingdom rests comfortably in the Pacific, though our wealthy tourists often seek refuge far from home and the Mediterranean clime of your unique state would likely become a popular destination should you agree to opening relations between our two great nations.

I hope this is the beginning of a fruitful relationship between not only our two countries, but our two peoples as well.

Selimise Shipping Co. Stock Reaches Market

AP, Selima, Comino – In a historic move for the tiny nation of Comino, her largest private company, Selimise Shipping Co. (SSC.GC), opened its stocks to the global stock exchange today, despite vocal protests from anti-globalization workers in downtown Selima. The Selimise Shipping Co. operates the majority of the nation’s merchant marine, as well as nearly a dozen foreign merchants under various flags. Its value is estimated at 191 million USD. The company president, a Mr. Adolfo Vitale, was available for comment.

“The limited investment available locally has seriously hampered our company’s growth over the past decade. Since I took over to company, one of my primary goals has been to fix that problem, and with our government’s new programs I think it may become a reality. I know they [referencing the protesting workers outside] would disagree, but I genuinely think that this move will ultimately benefit the company and those under its employ.”

Currently, the company’s stocks remain largely unbought. They are priced, as of 12:00 am GMT Today, at 1.25 USD per share.

-----

Ms. Deveraux,

Your greetings and salutations are warmly received here in Selima, and likewise it is with great joy that I read of your interests in opening diplomatic and commercial relationships between our two nations. For your simple interest, you have the thanks of the Cominan people.

Now, forgive me for being frank, but I feel it would be best to outline the best manner in which such relationships can be brought into being. First, I would like to propose that our two peoples begin a standard exchange of embassies and diplomats as is customary in the world. I feel that such action will impart a greater level of understanding between out people, and allow for further diplomatic envoys to progress. Secondly, in the interest of a cultural exchange, I would like to confirm that, indeed, as a part of our new policy of globalization, our borders are now fully open to visitors of all nationalities. Because you expressed some interest in Goso and Comino as a tourist destination, I have attached a tourist brochure (http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=9959059&postcount=1)which you may find useful if tourism is one of your aims.

Regrettably, I must say that so far as commercial opportunities go, the governments of Goso and Comino – while receptive to the idea of foreign investment – are unable to broker any deal with the Azazian state for the simple reason that all industry within our nation is fully privatized. Should the Azazian State or Azazian businessmen wish to invest in Gosian or Cominan companies, they may do so at their discression, with or without the blessing of the Gosian and Cominan governments.

Again, I remind you and your associates in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of our sincere thanks for the interest you have shown.

ANN (Breningrad) – Reports abound from Devonshire that one of the United Kingdom’s largest shipping companies, Wexler Shipping, has arranged for a purchase of stock in Selimise Shipping Co., a large regional shipping company based in the Allied States of Goso and Comino within the Mediterranean. When asked for comment, the company responded through a written statement that it had indeed expressed “enormous interest” in acquiring a significant portion of the company as it saw the company as holding “great promise” in a market yet untapped by Azazian corporations.

Mr. Velerio,

I would like to thank you for the brochure as your nation truly looks like a wonderful destination, especially for those of us burdened with the blessing of running a country. To that note, I welcome the opening of your borders to foreign nationals and I assure you the United Kingdom would be more than receptive to hosting your own fair citizens should they ever wish to visit the Pacific. Our capital, Imperium, features a modest Diplomatic Quarters, though one that has ample space for the Allied States. The Diplomatic Quarters offers river-front properties in a gated community with views of the mountains to the west behind which the sun sets daily in magnificent oranges, reds, and purples.

To the point of commercial interests, the United Kingdom is itself governed largely by free-market economics although there are limiting factors such as anti-trust and fair-competition laws that create an atmosphere friendly to both large and small businesses. We understand the inability to broker deals in particular, although I assure you we have received notes of interest from several key businesses including our primary national airline, Azazian Airways, and several shipping companies that would like the opportunity to invest in your country, as both the commercial sphere and my own political sphere see enormous potential in your country.

A) The Imperial Government requests a "Formal Protective Act", which will include an alliance and a non-aggression pact.

B) A trade agreement in which tariffs would be reduced in Afrika, but not in Goso and Comino. This would allow our corporations to invest in shipping, merchant and other naval related industries in your nation.

C) A military supply and equipment contract. That is, for your police, army, and air force, in which we would sell you slupplies for a 10% discount. Also a "Panterra I" rocket[telegram me for more information] will be provided for your nation to launch its very own space program.

The Trade Federation of Capitalists and Industrialists[TFCI] would request the ability to start companies and establish headquaters and European bases within your nation's islands. Of course locals would be employed for secretary jobs, etc...]

Growth Potential ‘Enormous’ Quotes Market Analyst

AP, Selima, Comino - Following in the footsteps of Selimise Shipping Co. (SSC.GC), several other major corporations based on Cominan and Gosian Soil have opened their stocks to the international market, prompting market analysts to theorize that this could be the beginning of a ‘investment explosion’ which could put Goso and Comino’s private sector on the regional economic maps. Already, Selimise Shipping Co. has seen investments in the area of 1.5 million USD come into the company, and there are rumors that Company President Adolfo Vitale has entered into negotiations with foreign competitors over the sale of the company.

This news has many on the streets of Selima concerned for their jobs, but analysts are saying that the sale may be profitable for the country as a whole.

“It will bring in a wave of new capital, and, as history has shown, that will in turn create more jobs in Selima and abroad. The end result of any sale or merger will likely be positive for all parties involved.”

Other companies which have entered the market include Gosian Applied Technologies (GAPT.GC), valued at 89 million USD, Kemmuna Aerospace Industries, valued at 86 million USD, and Valeta Agricultural Supplies, valued at 21 million USD. Together, these companies represent nearly one-third of the Cominan and Gosian market opening to foreign investment, surely a historic move for the tiny nations.

-----

Kara Maddox,

First, let me express my gratitude for the interest in relations with my nation. As a new arrival to the international community, it has been delightful to see how warmly my people have been embraced by the world, and your offer only affirms that. I would like to suggest that, as a cornerstone to further relations, our people begin a simple exchange of embassies along nominal lines, the details of which can be worked out at your leisure. I feel that once such a connection has been established, greater manners of cooperation and diplomacy such as you mentioned will only blossom.

Again, my thanks on behalf of all Goso and Comino

Mr. Miller,

Your interest in my company I regard with great interest. I had hoped that my move to open Selimise Shipping Co. to the international stock exchange would be profitable and indeed it has been. Currently, the move has generated 1.5 million USD in investment, equating to 1.2 million shares of SSC.GC stock. This leaves 70 million shares of stock unbought (Selimise Shipping Co. currently owns 8.8 million shares of its own stock.) This stock can be purchased as an adjusted market price of 1.30 USD per share, should your company chose to do so. Furthermore, I am more than open to any proposal you might make regarding negotiations over a merger between Selimise Shipping Co. and We Get It There Shipping Co. If such an option interests you, I am always available to contact in person here at my corporate office.

Signore Don Valerio -

It is no surprise that a small, progressive, diplomatic nation has plenty of admirers within the Pacitalian government and among the Pacitalian people. That being said, we would be honoured to follow in the footsteps of our Azazian allies by establishing formal diplomatic relations with the nation of Goso and Comino. It seems we follow similar genetic histories as well, an excellent precursory reason to further such ties. And, in our opinion, educating your population with the Pacitalian language (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Pacitalian) would only improve the ties between Pacitalia and Goso and Comino. My colleague in the Ministry of National Defence also tells me Goso and Comino would be most welcome to participate in a Protection of Sovereignty Agreement involving your nation and ours.

If you will accept this offer of diplomatic relations, please visit this page (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=376589) to formally submit your application. We look very much forward to hearing your official response! You can inquire about further details with the Protection of Sovereignty Agreement by inquiring when you submit your application.

Dear Giovanni Velerio,
We can defifantly assure you that a embassy exchange will be well accepted by the citizens, as well as the government, who have showed, 'unexpected interest' in your nation. We would like to outline what we need in an embassy:

1. 50 Armed Guards (M12 Pistols, AR-91A Next Generation Assault Rifles, various weapons)
2.10 Diplomatic Personal
3. 5 LV-08, 3 Personal Variants, 2 ATGM Variants
4. 3 Diplomatic Bullet Proof SUVs
5. 2 UH-60 Black Hawks(Unarmed)
6. 70 Embassy Personal
7. Enough under ground space to supply the personal with 2 weeks of food/water/supplies
8. 2 Helipads and parking garages

We have a plan for the building already, it would look like this: [Embassy Plan] (http://www.fineart.utoronto.ca/canarch/ontario/ottawa.jpgs/ott-2.jpg), we wish to be located within a 5 minute drive to your capitol building.
Please request what ever you would need for an embassy in our nation.

On behalf of the people of Goso and Comino, I must deny your requests of our nations, on the following grounds:

A) A binding alliance is not seen as being in the interest of the Gosian and Cominan people at this time. Furthermore, as a completely de-militarized nation, such an alliance could be potentially devastation for the Gosian and Cominan people, should a war break out, and would offer no benefit to the people of the Reichsrepublik.

B) An unequal distribution of tariffs, even slanted in our favor, would only serve to dissuade economic involvement between our two nations.

C) Being entirely de-militarized, Goso and Comino see little need in such a weapons contract as is being offered. Furthermore, even should we require arms, the advantages of your proposal simply would not, in my eyes, outweigh the possible harms.

My apologies for this dismal response. I do pray, however, that this will not dampen diplomatic relationships between our two peoples, but rather foster a further exchange of proposals. This is by no means a complete rejection of the Reichsrepublik or its people, but rather simply the proposal outlined.

Dear Giovanni Valerio,

Hello, I am President Roberson of the Armed Republic of Juosh. We welcome you to the international community and would like to gain diplomatic ties with Gosa and Comino. As well, we believe that many tourists from Juosh would love to visit your Mediterranean Paradise. Therefore, we would like to open diplomatic ties with Gosa and Comino. We would like to have an exchange of embassies between our two nations. We shall send Ambassador James Mungrove, to Gosa and Comino as the representative of Juosh. You are welcome to do the same with an embassy in Gracia, if you want to. We can set up an embassy rather quickly, from days to just a few weeks.

As well, we would like to open some Juosh affiliated businesses in Gosa and Comino and as well the same will be allowed for Comino and Gosa business' in Juosh. The main corporate giant of Juosh that would like to open up some business' in Gosa and Comino is my own company Acceleron. Now, Acceleron runs a large variety of businesses in Juosh, but is specifically centered around uranium and arms transportation across the planet. Now we fully understand that Gosa and Comino wish to be a tourist attraction, which is why we [Acceleron] would like to open an airline to Gosa and Comino from Juosh. Also in Gosa we would like to sell non-military products from Juosh.

If you hve any questions about this proposal please send back your questions and I will gladly answer them.

Kara Maddox,

As I have told others, I am quite unacquainted with the process of establishing an embassy, so you must forgive my unprofessional terms. However, after reviewing your request, I believe that it is wholly attainable, and I would be honored if such a construction project were to begin. I, sadly, do not have such a clear-cut plan as yours, though I assure you that a Cominan Embassy will be quickly established within easy reach of your capitol. I furthermore would like to provide your government with the assurance that, as a de-militarized state, the Cominan Embassy will constitute no threat to the people of The Silver Sky. I hope the, with these assurances, our own construction project will be able to move forward without further interruption from you or your government.

As always, you have my thanks,

President James Roberson,

First, in regards to the opening of diplomatic relations between the peoples of Juosh, Goso and Comino, we invite you wholeheartedly to establish an embassy in our capitol, and we assure you that it is our intent to do the same in Gracia when funds become available. Furthermore, regarding your interest in using Goso and Comino as a tourist destination (http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=9959059&postcount=1), we would like to remind you that our borders are completely open to visitors of all nationalities, Juoshian included.

However, in regards to your later questions about Gosian and Cominan business opportunities, I would remind you that, as a free-market nations, my government is unable to broker business agreements with your people. However, we assure you that it is our government’s priority to increase foreign investment within our nation, and as such, we would support your company should it attempt to broker any kind of deal with Comino’s private businesses.

Dear Giovanni Velerio,

We shall gladly accept an exchange of embassies between our two nations. Ambassador Mungrove will be leaving on a flight to Gosa and Comino next week [RL tomorrow] to arrive in your nation. We already have set up an embassy for your ambassador to Juosh. It is located in Gracia along Lake Renau, so your ambassador will have a great view of Juosh's finest scenery. Even though it probably does not compare to the beauty of Gosa and Comino we are sure your representative will be pleased with the embassy.

Also, who would we contact in Gosa and Comino in hopes of opening up businesses in the region? Is there a certasin corporate giant that runs most companies? Or is it mainly run by many smaller, privatized companies? Any information on these companies would be greatly appreciated.

Also I would like to personally visit Gosa and Comino and open our relations with you. As well I have been very busy these last few months and need a very memorable vacation. Therefore, if you would allow it, I would like to personally visit Gosa and Comino. Of course I will have a squadron of agents [known as Jaguar 1] to protect me. Secret IC:The Red Tide Goverment, and the Tech-Com Corporation, took no interest in this new country. Being their typical isolationist and paranoid selves, they set about monitoring the area, devoting only 2 analysts to the area... and they only worked on it part-time.

However, someone with more... darker motives took note of the new country.

"Very interesting," said 'The Boss', Head of the Red Tide Mafia, as he sipped his coffee, reading a exerpt from a smuggled in Sarzonian Newspaper about the country. His bodyguard, a man known as 'Ghost' because he rarely talked, spoke up in that sacrily quiet voice of his. "Are you thinking about getting set up there?"

"Precisely..."

Ariga International Airport

6 men boarded a plane heading for the capitol of Comino. 3 of them were carrying briefcases of money, lots of money, about several millions worth in each, the other three were their bodygaurds, unarmed, but big and intimidating. The seats were arranged so that the men were split in groups of two. The plane took off and headed away from Red Tide, towards its destination. The new nation seemed democratic, capatilist, and, according to the UN, a very poor police force... this was good, for the Mafia.
