Lemieuxville

Hi everybody here is the invitation thread for a RP which I wish to do.It will focus on the threat of terrorism inside Lemieuxville.Basically the RPers will either be the terrorist organization/members and/or their funding nation. So I'm searching for 1 or 2 RPers which would make a total of 3 with me.Here's the outline of what I wish will happen with a description of why the terrorists wish to strike.
Lemieuxville has been receiving a major influx of Bigtopians(that's the default refugees of NS they could be named something else) over the past 10 years because of a neighboring country's(to be determined) ethnic cleansing.Instead of blocking them at the frontier the goverment decided to let them in out of goodwill. However, since Lemieuxville boasts a population of 1 billion space is at a premium even if the country is quite large. The problem resides in that a big part of the country is in sub-arctic or arctic conditions.Even the capital, which is fruther south, endures winters of -35deg.C.So while there's a large chunk of land which is uninhabited the majority of the population lives near the south border on either shores of the biggest river in the world, the St-Laurent river.
So when Bigtopians began to come in the country there was simply no place available for them.Yes there were large superficies further north where they could establish themselves, but the government would have had to fund their implantation which was impossible due to the fairly large influx and the expenditures associated with an already booming domestic population. Moreover, refugee camps in the few remaining empty space was impossible due to the fact that Lemieuxville had snow and freezing temperatures almost half of the year. That's when private companies stepped in.They saw in the Bigtopia refugees an almost infinite and cheap labor base. The Bigtopians were willing to work for peanuts and they didn't cared much of unions and work conditions because they wanted to begin a new life as quick as possible after the horrors which they endured back home. The government then agreed to have all Bigtopians enter the country as long as they could find a job and home with the Lemieuxville companies which needed them. Those who couldnt because of disabilities or illness could not enter the country.A bill was passed and all refugees which had already entered the country were forcibly recruited by the companies. The new refugees were only granted access if they could be hired by the companies.
A problem still resided though, even if they could find a job easily there was still no space for them. The solution was found by one of the biggest Aerospace company in Lemieuxville, Lockheed Martin. They bought from the government a closed test facility in the middle of the St-Laurent river. The Isle of Anticosti was a big one and harbored one of the major naval base of Lemieuxville and its land was empty because it had been used as a firing range for more than 20 years. The Defense Department now had other such testing ranges and didnt need the Anticosti range anymore. Thus the companies associated with refugee integration established new factories in Anticosti righ next to the naval base, complete with company funded housing and facilities.Refugees came in there in the 100 000s.Problem solved.
Now in 2005 it seems that while the problem of accepting refugees has been solved there still resides some discontent. Most of it in the refugee cities themselves. While in theory the refugee politic worked for each individual refugee it wasnt ideal.First the Isle of Anticosti was big by any standard and moreover it was an island so it was defacto landlocked. The refugees with their low wages couldnt afford any means of self transportation. For the most a car was only a dream let alone a sailboat. So all refugees coming in Anticosti were bound to stay there until their death cuz they couldnt return to their countries and Lemieuxville wouldnt grant them a passport to emigrate to other countries.Lemieuxville wouldnt even grant them citizenship. So even if they could the law prohibited them to leave the island.Furthermore, most of them had weeks of 6 workdays so there was no hope of having time to travel to Sept-Îles the nearest city.
Secondly, most of their family had been left in Bigtopia. The companies only wanted able men and women regardless of age.So older people couldnt come in Lemieuxville and crippled and sick people were also left to their demise.Leaving your family behind was saying to them goodbye for the last time because only death awaited those left behind in Bigtopia.
Finally, a slim part of the Bigtopian workers were able to make it to Sept Îles and inevitably they came across citizen of Lemieuxville and saw the normal and wealthy lives of a Lemieuxville citizen. This information quickly spread in the Bigtopian refugees and soon enough malcontent grew in the poor population of Anticosti. The first outburst of malcontent flared in october 2004 when the employees of Gatuso got into a general strike stopping work and demanding the formation of a union and access to Lemieuxville citizenship.Company security helped by a detachment of Lemieuxville National Security Agency(similar to the KGB) put an end to the strike. Results, 5 dead 121 wounded and 67 arrested. Those arrested stood trial in Lemieuxville's capital and they were found guilty of treason to the nation amongst other charges. The trial was a heated one since technically the Bigtopians couldnt be accused of treason because they were not Lemieuxville citizen still they were expelled. The return to Bigtopia was broadcasted live on national television and everyone saw the poor 67 souls being pushed out of the country guns in their back.Since then anger is rampant in Anticosti though Bigtopians seem pretty pacific about the situation. Its been one year since the incident and no hint of a new strike or other actions by Bigtopians is in sight.
