Mauvasia
18-11-2005, 23:50
For countless years the Mauvasian Emperor lay dead, buried in the great Tomb of the Fallen in central Dûriandor square. Yet for those years the Senate had never removed the "Imperial" from Mauvasia's title. The reason was unclear. Perhaps it evoked the nation's past glory; perhaps they were simply too lazy. Nontheless, Mauvasia was properly a democratic republic, with strong socialist tendencies, a struggling economy attempting to support a large population, and completely alone in the world.
Perhaps because it was surrounded by high mountains with only one small strip of land leading to the sea, and perhaps because the last four or five Presidents and Premiers had been firmly isolationist in their policies, but part of the reason for Mauvasia's lack of a powerful economy and military involved its lack of trade with other nations.
But the young and newly elected President Aruthan Jacobi thought differently. The vast nation was rich in many resources highly valued in the rest of the world—gold, iron, uranium, timber, fish—and with a little work, its economy and military could be swiftly rebuilt. It was for this reason that he sent out a message to the rest of the international community.

Message to All Nations
Greetings from the Imperial Democratic Republic of Mauvasia!
We are seeking allies, both economically and militarily. We are a large nation rich in natural resources—although we are dwarfed by many other prominent nations—with the potential to develop into a much stronger international power.
If any nations wish to ally themselves with us, you will find in the Republic a strong and dedicated nation. Thank you for your consideration.
President Aruthan Jacobi

If any nations showed interest, it would be followed up with a list of the major exports of Mauvasia.
A new era was truly begun.
