I came up with what I think is a new and unique idea for a mafia RP. Instead of having just a character RP, it would be like the Earth threads, except I would take a map of the city and carve it into sections. Each section would have a certain value to it (e.g. commercial areas would be susceptible to protection rackets and docks would enable smuggling). There would also be positions in the city (Head of a union, political party or the like). Comments?

Sounds interesting, I was in an off-site that was somewhat similar(that died) but would still be interested in joining.

If this stays onsite and we get a good amount of people this could be fun but can you give some more info on your plans for this RP?

This is independant of our existing nations. I was thinking circa 1950s America. ("Goodfellas" era) It would take place in some city (I was thinking Chicago or New York). I would take the city map and carve it into regions. Each sydnicate could claim a region as their own territory. I still haven't figured out the logistics, but each region would have several ways of accruing money. If, for example, mob A claimed the turf around the airport, they could hijack the incoming cargo. Mob B might have a member at the head of the teamsters' union, so their approval would make it easier for mob A to steal the trucks (ala "Goodfellas). Mob C may be protecting several bars, so they would lose protection money if alcohol shipments were hit (Diplomacy and war follows). I am working on how to factor in police and how to determine regional income. I'm completely open to suggestions.

Let's create a fake city. Denard City. Take two city maps without specific buildings and places marked and put them together. We then create three mob gangs and the police.

Unlike most of the Denard City Police Department, Jackson Jospeh is not corrupt. He is an idealist, a person who cares about fighting crime, and stopping corruption. (Note, this is UNLIKE most of the Denard City Police Department...the rest of the police department can be bought off, just not Jackson)

Also unlike most of the Denard City Police Department, Jackson is an incompent. He doesn't know anything about fighting crime...he was a political appointment that would sastify voters. Just it.

Expect the crime rate to increase dramtically with Jackson Jospeh as Police Cheif.

If Siap supports/accepts/likes this idea, I'd be interested in a freelance hitman/assassin/person-for-hire

So is this going to be character based or one person controlling one of the families/crime organizations? Either way, count me in.

A note on it though; Organized crime, especially by La Cosa Nostra, was at its peak in the 1900-1920s era in NYC. Might wanna think about that for a setting, but it doesn't necessarily have to be the 5 Families of the Sicilian Mafia, or NYC. However, that's what most people remember when they hear Mafia (i.e. The Godfather?)

As for the income thing, it all depends on the Family's way of business. In the 20s, with prohibition in effect, the largest source of income for La Cosa Nostra was alcohol. Prostitution and gambling also ranked as a high profit. Drugs came later, but were much more dangerous to transport. However, the payoff was usually worth it.

What this means is that income doesn't necessarily get decided by which sector of the city you control; there is always some way to make money, no matter where you are.

Regional income is basically decided by what the people in the area want that the Family can provide. People want booze, you smuggle it in, you're in business. If the demand drops (for example, someone else begins making their own alcohol, sells it for cheaper, or opens a speakeasie) you'd either have to deal with that problem or let your empire stagnate (no income = no pay = no people [they ain't gonna stay if there's better work])

Just a few suggestions I thought of. . .

I'd like to move away from a character RP, but independant "associates" are always useful. The reason I chose the 50's was that there was (I think) more mob involvement in the unions and the Council was in full swing. My original idea was that it would be like the Earth threads, but instead taking place in a mafia setting. (Claim territory, dispute territory, war, diplomacy etc. in an organized crime world). I'll post more in approx. 2hours.

Instead of a character(Hitman type), would a small organisation that dealt with contracts that a mob(s) didn't want to be associated with be better?
IE: Burning down a competiting buisness, killing a upper end politician/cop ect.

May be, but not really the issue, and Siap might not like the 'hijack' of his thread.

I believe the Yakuza was around long before the Mafia. What I did was combine the two. Gave the characters japanese first names and Italian second names. ex: Nichiro Santucci, Nomura Albini, etc...

i'm kinda interested, would we be, as was proposed on page one, RPing with a predetermined set amount of Mobs, or would we be able to come in with our own mobs?

Siap has stopped posting on this so all interested in this I will start my own thread. I will need someone who is good with maps and able to color maps.
