Controversial new book appears in Roach-Busters

For decades, Professor Norm Chompski had aroused considerable controversy across all planes of the political spectrum. He was almost unanimously reviled by the right, and virtually worshipped by almost everyone on the left, except those who were moderately liberal or anti-socialist "progressives," who either hated him, merely disliked him, or held mixed feelings. Centrists were divided almost 50/50 on how they felt. At any rate, Chompski was known throughout the world for his scathing denunciations of Roach-Busterian foreign policy. Many of his controversial essays, previously published in The Chompski Reader, reached immense audiences abroad, especially in countries with lukewarm or hostile relations with Roach-Busters. Over the years, Chompski- a pariah in RB- had faced angry mobs, government harrassment, and even death threats from the Generalissimo himself. However, the government was extremely reluctant to punish Chompski, fearing greatly that any chastisement would make him an international martyr. So, the government struck a deal with Chompski: they would fully pardon him for all his "crimes," if in return, he agreed to never publish anything again, never engage in political activism, and refrain from discussing politics with anyone else. Phone taps, police informers, and spies ensured that Chompski cooperated. Yet, unknown to anyone else, not even his wife, Chompski was writing his latest book, guaranteed to arouse controversy, and possibly even result in his death. It was titled Hegemony or Survival: Roach-Busters's Quest for Global Dominance. Every night, he scribbled a paragraph or two onto a napkin, a piece of toilet paper, or a tissue, and hid it in a briefcase in the basement. Over ten years, he labored on this project. And finally, it was done. When he finished, he donned a disguise, managed with extreme difficulty to get out of the country, and then handed the manuscript over to a sympathetic publisher in an undisclosed nation abroad. 100,000 copies were printed, which Chompski loaded into a plane. The plane, disguised as one of those tourist planes where tour guides flew tourists over the Amazon, flew over RB City, and all 100,000 copies were dropped out, on parachutes, onto the crowd below. News of the books arrival spread like wildfire; within a week, more than 2,000,000 people had read it, and it became a national sensation. Most denounced the book and demanded that the author (Chompski published it anonymously) be put to death. In the 'homelands,' where left-wingers were forced to live in squalid shacks amid huge mounds of fly-infested garbage, the book was immensely popular. It did not take long for authorities to figure out Chompski was the author, and he was quickly arrested, detained, and scheduled to stand trial. If convicted, the sentence would be death.

The Imperium believes that for writing such subversive, treasonous material, this traitor should be sentenced to a term in one of the Victory Camps or a similar location -- specialized camps for political prisoners and dissidents to work out their sentences in hard labor, to be drafted into the Fanatic armies in times of war -- where he would adequately repay the nation of Roach-Busters for his crimes. If you have none of these camps in your nation, we urge that you build some, as they will serve both to detain criminals and provide nearly free labor and military service for your nation.

Of course, we will send a number of paramilitary advisors and members of the upper command of the Imperial Thought Police to aid you in the construction of camps at once.

These camps will be constructed at the cost of $70 million USD per camp (this covering all materials and equipment used to construct the camps, as well as the 'invincibility' drugs used to drive on the prisoners to battle -- as in the Fanatics, who have proven very effective in war to demoralize the troops). This price may seem somewhat high, but the camps must always be very secure to prevent any escape. This construction in Imperial camps has a successful escape rate of only 0.001 per 1000.

Very well. The deal has been finalized, and as I write this the advisors are on their way to Roach-Busterian territory. How many camps do you wish to build? Each one has a capacity of approximately 40,000.

That sounds good; we are sending enough personnel to oversee the construction of 25 camps (cost of $1.75 billion USD). If you wish you may use the prisoners to be placed within the camps to help construct them, to cut down on additional costs.

One minor problem:

Professor Norm Chompski didn't write that book.

It was an text that was published anonymously. And it was obivous that the authories rushed to condemen Norm when there is little proof Norm actually wrote this book: "Hegemony or Survival: Roach-Busters's Quest for Global Dominance".

Therefore, we fear that the government is framing Norm for writing this book.

This is, sadly, just another example of hypocrisy within Roach-Busters. You say you are a liberation force fighting for the freedom of a people, but again, you turn around and threaten to execute a talented man, through your own extreme and repressive laws, just because he disagrees with the way Roach-Busters handles its foreign policy. For shame.

So, Vicki-B has assembled 5 elitle Troubleshooter Team. Each Team has 6 members.

The goal of the teams is to recuse Norm Chompski from prison, while not getting caught.

Yes, since Professor Norm Chompski had faced death threats and angered mobs in the past, it is quite possible that Professor Chompski didn't write the book, and was framed. But in the event Professor Chompski is responsible, I find that Life Imprisonment would be the fairest sentence.

I suggest Norm Chompski be tried in a third party nation, rather than in the nation he lives in, due to his unpopluarity, as well as to keep the indepedence of the judicary.

Internal Security agents have examined Norm's perivous work, and have believed that the book "Hegemony or Survival: Roach-Busters's Quest for Global Dominance" was a forgery, which was made to frame Norm. We shall present our evidence to the trial, to support Norm.

Gov't to exchange Chompski for binding agreement

TIMIOCATO -- Federal government sources are reportedly heading into talks to save controversial author Norm Chompski from certain execution in Roach-Busters.

The former Pacitalian allies arrested Chompski after it was reported he was responsible for dumping 100,000 copies of his latest book, Hegemony or Survival: Roach-Busters' Quest for Global Dominance, out of an airplane onto the streets of the Roach-Busterian capital, RB City. The markedly leftist book takes a definitively harsh stance against the foreign policies of Roach-Busters under President Generalissimo J.L., something that convinced and concerned RB Minister of Justice Chia Neng Lee enough to order the arrest and punishment of Chompski, a "threat to national security".

Agustinate of International Relations Dr. Rabastano Sancatto Serra was outspoken over the last 48 hours, as RB government officials threatened to execute him for what many friendly extranational governments were labelling "high treason". Dr. Sancatto Serra reportedly had gone into a three-hour videophone conversation with the Roach-Busterian president and word is that he has tentatively agreed to the Pacitalian offer, which is to give Chompski permanent asylum in Pacitalia in exchange for the written, binding agreement that Chompski will never knowingly distribute or sell his works within Roach-Busters, and that future works will not directly or principally cover Roach-Busterian government policies, domestic or foreign.

Despite the degradation of Roach-Busterian/Pacitalian relations, President Generalissimo J.L. and Prime Minister Timothy Ell are still reported to be on "very good terms" by both governments, and the two nations still have open, functioning embassies within Timiocato and RB City, respectively. Whether this has helped in the Generalissimo's decision is unclear, but what is clear is that, if successful, the Ell administration's last 60 days may have helped save a life.

There was no further comment from the Pacitalian government.

I sugguest you finacially and socially deprive him. My idea is to send all of his books to communist states where they have most read the same bullcrap from whomever their leader taught him. Make sure none of the books reach any nation that isnt left wing. Also have the human resources fine him occasionally even for no reason. That will make him starve on the streets and look a crazy maniac.

President Grey has requested a copy of both the ‘Chompski Reader’ and ‘Hegemony or Survival: Roach-Busters's Quest for Global Dominance’ for his personal library of books he will never read. Furthermore he requests that both books be signed by Professor Chompski.

Thank you for your consideration.

Also have you considered crushing the traitor under a collection of his own works. Please note this is not government policy.

"Are you fucking insane!?" Lee screamed at the top of his lungs, loud enough to cause windows to stress and crack slightly. His face turned an ugly, sickly purplish-red hue, as every vein in his body bulged profusely, his eyes expanded to almost comical proportions, and spittle slid down his chin.

"Hear me out, hear me out," a mysterious man, cloaked by shadows, said. "If you try the scum and he's found guilty, hardly anyone will believe it was a fair trial, even if it was. They'll instantly jump on you, accuse you of rigging it, and cry foul. But...if you were to pardon him..."

"Pardon him, so he could continue manufacturing malicious Marxist lies? Not going to happen," Lee snapped.

"Wait, let me finish," the man said patiently. "That's where I come in. The government pardons Norm, he walks out of the courthouse a free man, but suddenly, some 'lone nut gun-man'- i.e., me- goes berserk and shoots the bastard. The nut escapes, despite the 'efforts' of the police, and an ambulance drives Norm away, supposedly to a hospital, but actually to a detention camp, where your boys can interrogate him."

Lee's face resumed its normal color, as every muscle in his body relaxed and the tension subsided, his vehement fury fading away. A cold, cynical smile cut across his face, and he stroked his chin thoughtfully, with a contemplative nod. "Brilliant..." he said, in awe. "Absolutely...brilliant."

"So it's done?" the man asked.

Lee nodded. "Absolutely. If you succeed, we will wire one billion dollars to your private account."

The man scowled. " 'If' I succeed? Apparently you don't know me, Mr. Lee. I have never failed an assignment."

Lee recoiled. "I wasn't implying that. Anyway, once your job's done, you will be paid."

The man rose to shake Lee's hand. "Splendid, Mr. Lee, splendid," he said. "You won't be sorry."

And with that, the man left, suitcase in hand, to prepare for his assignment.

Minister Lee,

We are of the same opinion as Pacitalia. Whatever your political leanings might be, there should always be freedom of the press, freedom of opinion, and freedom of expression.

Surely there is at least one person in the government of RB that has sufficient intelligence to write a rebuttal to Chomski's book, a book that is simply his version of the Truth.

Truth is a relative commodity, based on the perceptions of those who believe it. Everyone is entitled to believe whatever they wish, no matter how wrong they may be. Mr. Chomski should be neither persecuted nor reviled for his beliefs or perceptions.

If you don't like what he writes, don't read it.

Oh, and by the way, you should check the results of your own poll.

respectfully,

Vlad, Prince of the Empire, in the Name of the Emperor.

Greetings from the Libertarian Concordance of Czardas!

We have another solution to this so-called 'problem'. If Mr. Chompski did write the book—which we do not view as a crime, by the way—he can be exiled or otherwise sent to Czardas, where political dissent and democracy are not stifled but actually encouraged. In addition, most Czardaians have similar political leanings and would accept him.

We will not accept a 'trial' for one who has committed no crime in our eyes, and may not have committed any crime according to your laws as well.

Aiding and abetting terrorism? Terrorism as such does not exist in Czardas. If people have a viewpoint to argue, they can do it through our democratic system by which all citizens rule the country instead of a single government. That way, the outcomes of all decisions will be democratically made and the citizens will be happy, preventing any need for terrorism.

Political dissent is encouraged in Czardas, and there are occasional rebellions that result in the installments of new and better-supported governments. We view this as a good thing (much like all change).

"All citizens rule the country, instead of a single government? The very thought makes me shudder. Democracy leads to tyranny by majority which leads to mobocracy which leads to anarchy which leads to chaos. The seeds of chaos that are sown eventually grow and blossom into the totalitarian manifestation of Marxism. Democracy is one of the greatest evils of this Earth. Dissent leads to rebellion and rebellion leads to lawlessness and disorder. Simply put, sir, the vast majority of people on this Earth have neither the brains nor the capacity to effectively govern themselves, which is why an all-powerful government is necessary to secure liberty and life."

Your ignorance where it comes to Czardaian politics is astounding, considering the wealth of material on our nation in international databases. Czardas is in reality nothing more than an enlightened anarchy. With compulsory education and participation in the government, all citizens are required to be educated enough to govern themselves. While it is true that some leaders with specific knowledge that not all can be taught are required, we have that council (the Governing Council) which manages the various departments to which the tax money is allocated by the citizens on their tax forms (and sent by the Treasurer General). In addition, while obviously in a society of more than 1 billion people there will be an overflow of bills that will never be approved, we remedy that situation by the democratically-elected Council of 400, which proposes laws for the rest of the citizens to vote on.

As for communism and other related ideologies, just over a tenth of Czardas's citizens follow these ideologies and our country has not collapsed yet. In fact, our nation's economy is doing very well, and the nation is fairly peaceful despite the daily protests and debates. Shocked, aren't you?
