"By the pricking of my thumbs, something wicked this way comes"-Second Witch, Macbeth Act IV Scene 1
Beep.
Beep.
Beep.
Beep.
"Beep" went the emergency beacon, flashing red in addition to sending a distress signal. It was the only thing with any semblance of life near the darkened orbital docking station. It, and the lifeless wrecks of the spaceships floating near it, were in orbit around the now-silent planet of Rechtareg.
On the surface, it was even eerier. The cities of the planet were ghost towns, no sound but the wind blowing through. But then, something stirred. It was a small creature that scuttled up the wall of a nearby building. That would not be so unusual if not for what it was. It was a pure-black creature, too big to be an arthropod but armored like one and with six legs like an insect. It appeared to have one body segment, from the back of which portruded a tail much like a scorpions. It quickly scuttled back into its hole, even more impatient then when it had ventured out in search of prey.

And that was a bit of the first post. Any volunteers for the rescue team?
