War with Ankhmet; Liberation attempt. (Closed; TG to join)

OOC:This is a branch off of this (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=454320) thread. This is indeed a war. It is open to anyone for both sides. The general background is that Ankhmet was found to be overly oppresive of its people, and those against him are attempting to overthrow the government and replace it with a more responsible one. The above link will answer most questions.

Official Imperial Declaration of War

Based on:

1. The current Ankhmet government's inability to provide reasonable rights for the people;

2. The mass executions of those who oppose trivial issues;

3. The aggressive international policy;

4. The persecution of religions;

5. Unneccessary labor camps;

6. A severe absence of the peoples' right to privacy;

7. And an unfair and over-aggressive judicial system.

These seven points outline our reasons to declare that as of this moment, a state of war exists between our nations. There is no need for oppression this severe in any nation or society. We now feel the need that military force on all targets in the country is required in order to eject the current government, and allow for one chosen by the people, and not a small group or individual claiming to represent the people.

Therefore, at this time we are calling up two million of our active duty soldiers from police duty inside the nation to prepare for combat. Our navy shall cast off soon, and our air force is on high alert. We will not back down and we will not stop until a legitimate government of the true peoples' choice is in place.

Signed:

His Excellency, Shogun Himura Kenshin

Signed into effectivness: November 17th, AC 433

With this, the war begins. The Nation of Banduria has also pledged help against Ankhmet, sending 1,200,000 men and 600-700 ships.

Okay, now for some action!
=============================================
IC:
Within moments of the issuing of the declaration of war, mobilization in the Imperial Shogunate of Pschycotic Pschycos began. In 8 provinces, the one million men stationed as police began grabbing their effects and marching. Hundreds of transports began loading supplies and men. In the Imperial Court's Navy Headquarters in Neo-Nagasaki, hundreds of ships began hauling aboard supplies. For the first time, they would be equipped for all out war. The air force, the nation's first reaction to a possible counter-strike, moved its planes and bombers out on to the tarmac to increase their readiness.

The sight at the loading ports was tremendous. Long lines of soldiers in their body armor that resembled that of the samurai (only stronger and more bullet resistant) were marching up ramps to the huge transport vessels. At other docks, cranes were hoisting tanks, artillery, crates of weapons and supplies, and other such things. Slowly, as each filled up, it set off into open water where they would form up into fleets and meet with their escorts.

Estimated time till total readiness for the forces to set off: 3 NS days. (Later tonight, or tommorrow morning)

(OOC: And with that, I hand it off! Keep OOC comments to a minimum. If neccesary, I'll create an OOC thread.)

Official Open Message from the Holy Imperium of Banduria

Based on the human rights abuses detailed in the declaration of war issued by Pschycotic Pschycos, as well as insults and slander directed against our allies in Roach-Busters:

The Imperium hereby declares a state of war between Banduria and Ankhmet.

The Imperium will support Pschycotic Pschycos in this war. Our full military is currently being mobilized, and notwithstanding a force of approximately 600-700 ships and four legions in Neoma, most of the Imperial Army will be able to support this mission. (As the Imperial Guard and all related armies will be defending Banduria itself, this will far from exhaust our resources.) We will aid the glorious nation of Pschycotic Pschycos in defeating the blight upon the earth that is Ankhmet!

Bandurian Minister for Foreign Affairs

Supreme Commander and Grand Field Marshal of the Imperial Armed Forces

"Work damn you, WORK!"

The General's voice rang out over the docks as hundreds of men grunted and sweated, pulling and pushing in rhythmic motions, loading vast stores of supplies and munitions aboard the vast prototype flagship of the new Imperial Navy, Decius Aurelius, the first ever Azaron-class Superdreadnaught. Near-tirelessly, the men had started working within minutes of the declaration of war, preparing loads for a ship that would eventually house near on 10,000 crew alone, not to mention thousands of troops and even up to 80 aircraft.

The General strode up and down, watching the men load onto the vast steel ship. He knew from reports that all over the docks at Dominis, and all over the country, similar scenes were taking place. He jabbed a finger at a hapless slacker and declaimed,

"Aquanur has already finished loading their SDN—it's lazy fuckheads like you who are delaying us!"

The man thought of replying something to the effect that the SDN in Aquanur was a smaller Monarch-class, but refrained from such smartass comments, knowing the penalty they would bring. He simply sighed and continued loading supplies onto the decks.

As the general continued to watch the loading process, a message came across on his radio.

"Legions currently being summoned. You will carry special forces as well as normal personnel."

"Roger that, what else?"

"General Barilus wants to see you on the Hand of God, report at once."

Barilus? The general knew the name. That was the commander of the Second Legion, one of the best in the whole Imperial Army, which was saying a lot. Shrugging, he summoned a subordinate to watch over the loading of the Decius Aurelius and called for a transport. A helicopter soon arrived to airlift the general onto the Demon-class Hand of God, stationed in another part of the Dominis harbor. He stepped off onto the battleship and climbed down the flight of stairs from the heliport towards where Barilus waited.

The general looked out over the surface of the sea around the ship, clear and blue, reflecting the sky above, and then at a tall uniformed man who appeared to be General Barilus. He thought Barilus looked a lot like a wolf—shaggy grey hair, alert eyes, sharp military posture... Barilus spoke first.

"Ah, greetings, General—"

"Mantari," said the general, shaking hands with Barilus. "General Barilus, I presume?"

"Yes, yes; you are of the 7th Legion, are you not?"

"That I am. You wanted to see me?"

"Yes. As you know, our official orders were to mobilize the first through tenth Legions, as well as a force of about 600 ships..."

"I know."

"But don't you think 600 would be a bit ... few?"

"What do you mean?"

"Well, we can easily mobilize a lot more than that. There are exactly 625 ships now deployed in Neoman waters to aid them and 35 ships in Nueve Italia, leaving us a total force of more than 1,400 combat ships still in Imperial ports?"

Mantari grinned. "So you want us to...inflate slightly?"

"Why not. We don't need to use all of them. A thousand should about do the trick. Plus our five remaining SDNs, ten supercarriers... official orders are always conservative anyway."

"That they are," agreed Mantari. "What about... Fanatics?"

"Those we deploy in any case," said Barilus, "ahead of the Legions and the rest of our forces."

"Right. So we have an agreement?"

"I should hope so. Let's get rolling."

Official Declaration of War

Seeing that the unfree, psychotic, overly repressive, totalitarian government of Ankhmet has placed all other repressive nations to shame with the appalling human rights violations, of even the most basic ones respected by virtually all nations of privacy, thought, religion, and property, the Shahanshah has decreed forthwith a state of war is to exist between the nation of Ankhmet and the Shahdom of Parthia, one that will not end until the nation is freed and a more libertarian government in place.

As of Now, we have decided to mobilize the fleets, prepare for war O cruel despots, the time to face justice has come, you will find death and destruction while we free your nation and bring it to a great standard of living. No more will your people fear disappearances in the night for the illegal control you place over their most personal lives, now, they will be free to live as normal humans, to own property and enrich their own lives. Do you not see, we bring hope to a people with none, we bring new lives to a state of slaves.

IC:

Bathed in blue light, two men sat in the middle of the CIC of a giant vessel. Between them was an electronic table whose display was constantly changing, providing data to the two men. On one side was Vice Admiral Gene Starwin, commanding officer of the elite 8th Fleet. On the other was Grande Admiral Isoruku Yamamoto III, head of the Imperial Court's Navy.
"So, where's our strategy to begin, Sir?" Starwin asked.
"Well, Ankhmet only has two accessbile landing zones," Yamamoto began. "That serves as a double-edged sword. It's easier to assault, but it's also easier to defend. I'm hoping that they have a smaller navy due to their lack of water access. Rumor has it that they are also guarded by mines." On the table, an electronic map displaying the information came up. "We're going to split the attack between the two opennings." The door hissed as it slid open and a sailor walked in.
"THAT DOOR'S SHUT FOR A F***ING REASON!" roared Starwin. Dispite his young age, he was as hard-line as more seasoned officers. The sailor jumped, saluted and bowed at the same time, and dashed back out. "I'm sorry, sir."
"That's fine, Admiral."
"What's the overall status?"
"Currently, all fleets are still docked in port. However, all fleets report ready to cast off. We should be sailing tommorrow," Yamamoto said. He drew another breath. "The army took soldiers from the inner provinces, so their transports are sitting in the Inland Sea, waiting to form up."
"How many?" Starwin interjected.
"Nearly 300. They're broken into 60 fleets of 50 ships. Each fleet has 15 ICS Valor Escort Battlecruisers," Yamamoto answered. "Now," the map changed, showing a moving diagram of Psi-Pso, "we'll leave in the morning, with the transports coming after us through the channels. We'll be a day and a half ahead." Another sailor came through the door, stopped, and dashed out. Gene stood up, exited the room, door shutting behind him. Despite its thickness, his voice was clear, "IF ANOTHER SAILOR ENTERS THE CIC, I WILL SHOOT HIS BALLS OFF!!!!!!!!" He reentered and sat down.
Yamamoto continued, "Bombers will take off after us and strike targets near the shore, including the mines actually, about 3 hours before our bombardment begins. When the transports arrive, we'll move right to Phase Two. We'll discuss that on sight."

Another sailor walked through the door.

It was one of the fastest mobilizations on record in the Imperium. Organized into six strategic fleets of varying sizes, over 1000 ships were preparing to set out from their ports within 72 hours of the declaration of war. The ten Legions had been mobilized and were boarding both transports and combat ships—the ability to house Legionnaires in larger ships like cruisers and SDNs would greatly detract from the number of ships necessary for deployment. Generals Barilus and Mantari were in charge of the operation, and the swift mobilization would undoubtedly take the enemy by surprise.

The two Generals were sitting in a secured command room in the Decius Aurelius, Mantari's flagship (the Hand of God was undergoing an additional loading of supplies at that time), working out a strategy for the destruction of Ankhmet.

"Well, we'll need to connect with the Shogunate to find out what they're doing. But our own basic strategy ought to be fairly simple," said Barilus.

"Exactly," said Mantari, tracing a line on one of the numerous satellite-updated maps. "We should split up, first of all. I'll take the first three fleets, you take the second three. Heavy bomber and submersible airstrikes will be launched against the two points of defense...whichever one we choose to assault, or both."

The more experienced Barilus rejoined, "No. I'd recommend assaulting both here with heavy airstrikes and submarine fire, and then landing at just one point—with our force, we can overwhelm any enemy sector. Then we can launch a triple offensive and push forwards to the other position, which will already have our allies assaulting it...and a double attack will overwhelm it as well."

"Ankhmet made it simple for us," said Mantari. "Only two defensive positions...heh. To take the Imperium an invading force would have to capture thousands of miles of coastline... and we could still regroup elsewhere."

"Right. We intend to push off as soon as the last supplies are loaded," said Barilus. "Probably by this afternoon we'll be clear of Imperial waters."

"Good," said Mantari. "Although, as my fleet's ready now, shouldn't we set out first?"

"Suit yourself," Barilus shrugged. "It might be a good idea...concealing our true numbers and all that."

"Well, we are ready to set out now," said Mantari. "Few final preparations...and..."

"Right."

The two generals shook hands. "I'll see you on the graves of commies," said Barilus, smiling. He was growing to like the younger and more inexperienced general he was to work alongside.

"They don't deserve graves," said Mantari, chuckling to himself.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
An hour later...
Hundreds upon hundreds of Imperial ships, in a traditional Bandurian four-ring formation—destroyers and cruisers, frigates, SDNs and carriers, and noncombatant ships at the center, protected by the other ships—were leaving their docks, almost silently. Crowds watched from the shore in awe as Mantari's fleet departed, setting out into the open ocean. Bound for Ankhmet.
How many of them would ever return, no-one knew.
But one thing was sure—even in this dire time, the Imperium would succeed in battle, as it always had.
"I don't see how we can win this..."
"Do not worry comrade General, the naval defenses we commissioned are 73% completed, and all the mines are in position. We can at the very least give them a bloody nose."
Comrade General Adam Weishaupt III, son of Comrade Premier Johan Weishaupt, was in a very bad mood. Satellites had spotted colossal gatherings of ships in ports on enemy territory, and evidence of similarly large troop movements. Movements Ankhmet could not hope to rival.
"I am not worried, Comrade Commissar, I am petrified. The capitalists have chosen a perfect time to attack. I'm having to withdraw a division of 180,000 men from the battle of Kheer to go to man the Ankh Naval Defenses. I just had to order trops at Tyr to move out o the city and form a thinner line so lay siege, just so I could free up 60,000 soldiers!"
"Comrade General. Your father has got a trick up his sleeve. Did you know, that immediately following the struggle that destryed the Nazis, the UK capitalists produced nuclear mines to bury in German soil in case of a Soviet invasion..."
"He authorised Wildfire? Insanity. We'd lose our only two ports."
"Only if the enemy took them. The mines are already in place. It's too late now."
shifted uneasily, and put his officer's cap on the map table, blotting out the port of Ankh.
"I hope it works."
--------------------------------------
Across Ankhmet, the Commissars were rounding up men fit for service between the ages of 15-50 not working in vital industries. 10,000,000 conscript soldiers had ben recruited, with 5,000,000 going to the infantry, the rest split evenly between artillery and tanks. Troops set aside for the reinforcement of revolutionary operations were diverted
Some workers who worked in non-essential industries were put into ammunition manufacture, and women were drafted into factory work in their millions. Ankhmet was in a state that could not be maintained forever. For years perhaps, but it wouldn't do Ankhmet any good.
.The Very Small Island fleet was preparing to depart from the newly built port of Nove city. Admiral Hawks surveyed the ships that had assembled in the docks below. Many of the ships were still being loaded with supplies and equipment. Troops had been arriving all day from all over the country and many more were still to come.
Admiral Hawks looked out from his office above the dock as his assistant read out the Fleet roster:
15 Swift class destroyers
6 Galaxy class medium Battleships
30 firefly class gunboats
6 supernova class heavy battleships
9 Freedom class cruisers
4 medium aircraft carriers
4 super aircraft carriers
11 Giant troop transports
15 missile boats
5 supply ships
4 oil tankers
The details of the group 9 special operations Fleets were also read out:
9 Disguised merchant raiders
4 super sub carriers
Hawks was then informed that the Main fleet would be ready to depart in 2 days and the Military advisors and Group 9 operatives had already departed for Ankhmet from airfields in South Very Small Island. The group 9 ships had also left from ports all over the country, they had all been painted to look like merchant ships of other nations. Soon Very Small Islands new navy would help defend Ankhmet from her enemies.
Bridge of the Shahanshah Khosru, Superdreadnought Flagship for Parthian 1st expeditionary force.
Two F-78s soared past the windows, pulling up as they left a trail of smoke. Many of them flew patrol over the fleet while the vessels were deployed in a classic formation. A great wedge of escort ships: frigates and destroyers on the outside of the wedge with cruisers on the inner part of the wedge. Within the wedge, the transports for dozens of divisions, superdreadnoughts, carriers, and the arsenal ships moved forward.
Looking from the bridge, supreme commander Lord Marshall Piruz Karmanesh turned his attention to the planning table, looking at the gigantic screen upon the table, lit up with the positions of the Parthian fleet, then switching to the Ankhmeti territories. The screen showed the coast and inland territory, elevation and population centers were overlayed onto the map.
The officers stood around as Karmanesh laid out his plans. "We have been dispatched here to free this nation. In the place of the Communist government, we will install a new one. As to the issue of strategy, it is simple, we will unite with the Psychotic Psychos fleet, and then together, descend our troops onto a small stretch of coast 50 miles in length. To soften resistence and ensure the breakthrough, we will utilize our superdreadnoughts and 'galleons' to bombard the coast with 25 inch shells while unguided rockets from arsenal ships use incindiaries. Once the troops land, they will be able to stop anything from resisting, especially since corps of engineers will set up airfeilds using the prefabricated parts we have."
Admiral Hawks peered out over the deck of his flagship the heavy battleship lightning from his position on the bridge:
"Sir we just received a radio broadcast from back home, they say that they have just issued there last messages to the merchant raiders, from now on we are not to contact those ship in anyway and all the other ships are now in formation" said one of the officers as he handed the admiral a report before saluting him.
"Thank you, I want you to order our carriers to launch scouts then have out men run drills until we arrive I want the fleet ready for battle as soon as we arrive." replied the Admiral.
"Yes Sir" said the officer as he hurried away.
Soon the bridge was a hive of activity as the men hurried around collecting data being sent in from other ships.
"How long till we arrive?” called out one of the officers on the bridge so he could be heard above the noise.
"2-3 days depending on the weather", replied another
The Fleet would continue on its current course as full speed, the Admiral hoped to arrive before any of the enemy fleets so they could take up defensive positions around the ports of Ankhmet.
Our forces will be concentrating their attack at the city of Tyr. Originally, we thought we'd have to split, but with several allies, we think its more effecient to maintain one landing zone. Therefore, we'd like Banduria to try to attack the second site. Parthians and Maghda-, you can choose where to help. Don't overload one site when resources can be spread. We will need to work as a team to get in. Also, both sites are heavily mined according to intelligence. Use as much long-range support as possible to get rid of them.
Psi-Pso Conflict Commander:
Grande Admiral Isoruku Yamamoto III
=============================================
0500 Hours, November 20th, AC 433
Neo-Nagasaki Harbor, Pschycotic Pschycos
Night still hung heavy over the massive port. The harbors and docks spread, creaped, and crawled across half of the city. Cranes and wires hung like ghosts in the black sky, barely visable but for the warning lights at the top of them. Silence was over the place and the only noticable noise at all was that of miniscule ripples lapping against the steel hulls of the ships. Suddenly, the silence was shattered by the sounds of klaxon alarms ringing throughout the complex buildings and red flashing lights broke the dark. Instatnly, the alarm was echoed from scores upon scores upon scores of dark ships. Some ships had slightly different, but similar, klaxons and the combination gave the noise a hurried melody. Sailors in bunks jumped out, manning stations. New sounds could now be heard. The throb of enigines and screws starting up. At the mouth of the port, massive steel gates, 20 yards wide, slid effortlessly open, allowing the oily water of the harbor to mix with fresh ocean water.
Unnaturally, the din seemed to lose strength. In the gap, a different sound replaced it, the horns of the SDN flagship ICS Honor sounding 'leaving dock'. The sound was echoed as the other ships cast off their bowlines. The massive ship, with four inline triple turrets forward and aft as well as an additional forward and aft turret on port and starboard (6 front and rear facing), slid forward. Slow at first, it began to pick up speed as it headed for the gates. Behind it ship upon ship cast off and followed out into the open waters where each individual fleet formed up. In an hour, they were gone.
As dawn broke, Intercoms on every ship crackled to life and were filled with the Grande Admiral's voice:
My fellow comrades, countrymen, and most importantly, sailors. Listen to what I have to say! We as a nation have always respected national soverneigty. However, we have seen that the oppression of people in Ankhmet is too great to ignore. Though we may not fight in defense of our homeland, know this:
The leaders of Ankhmet have no honor! We cannot stand by idlely and ignore this! We must, at all costs, implace a government that has honor! One that can sleep at night without worrying about being overthrown or a power struggle! By doing so, we shall preserve our own honor and the honor of the Shogunate! Comrades, do not doubt our actions! Their government shall be up to them, but we SHALL see that it is the people who choose it, and that it has honor. And now, we pray. For us, and for the people of Ankhmet. May God Bless Us, and may God see the good in our actions!
There, the speakers cut off. Wild cheering went up among the sailors. Generations later, despite the outcome, it would be said that the cheering could be heard on the shores of the homeland.
The sea walls stood supremely over the quite beach, jutting out from the sea fog. Barely visible stood a quarter-mile wide channel, carved out long ago by a river. Locks had been emplaced, allowing access to the Inland Sea, which was above sea level. In the quite, a dull roar grew up. Suddenly, the bow of a Valor Class Escort Battlecruiser shot forward from it into the open ocean. Behind it, several more came, followed by transport after transport after transport. They came three wide, interspersed with more battlecruisers. The supply force had left several hours earlier, and now had finally reached open ocean where they formed fleets. Ahead of schedual, they would be a day behind the main task force. As of yet unknown to the troops, Shogun Himura Kenshin stood in his red and black samurai armor on the bridge of the lead transport. He would lead the assault personally, making his presence known only as they were about to go in.
Such was the mentality: "Let's go boys!" not "Go on, now, boys!"
It would be tough. It would be horrible. It would be nigh impossible. God himself would have to guide his actions. Kellin was quickly becoming an old man as King. There was no way around it. To avoid the massive loss of life that would come with this war, in order to do it correctly mind you, he would have to be his absolute best. He drafted the message.........
To All the Nations of the Earth.
I ask this of ye. I ask this of all of ye. Look beyond what is your own lot. Throw your lot to the lot of others. You wish to save these people then do not make war with this nation. Ankhmet will sacrifice every last one of its citizens in order to save them. And the lot of ye would kill every last one as well. Let it be known that any nation that actively commits any acts of war upon this nation will suffer the complete and utter splitting of Camel Eaters from them. Aye. Two of our closest allies are preparing for this war. I ask of ye to save the people by not saving them.
However if Ankhmet continues in its ways here. The ways of terror to the people and absolute dissolution of free-will and capitalistic tendencies. Then we can do nothing but stand aside. We ask this though. Of the war-makers, stand back and do not kill millions. To Ankhmet, change your ways. Know that the evils of collectivism will kill your people and destroy your land. We shall pray for all of ye.
Graciously,
King Kellin Hannon
It is not our wish to kill. We shall do all possible to avoid civilian casualties, but they will hapen. However, Ankhmet's attrocites are too great to ignore. We will overthrow their government and allow the people to choose a responsible form.
However, should the current government step down willingly, or change its ways, we shall halt all advances.
The Commonwealth agrees completely with the message that
Camel Eaters has sent. For it may very well be as Stalin said, "The death of one man is a tragedy. The death of millions is a statistic." Please do not reluctantly sign into this war. For should a noose be tied around a nation's neck, it will be by it's own people.
As a leader and a strategist, giving a week to bolster defenses is suicide. That means more of my men killed. We want to do this with as few casualties as possible. That's why the navy is so large, indirect fire.
AND YOU SHALL NOT ACCUSE US OF DISHONOR! DISHONOR IS ALLOWING PEOPLE TO LIVE LIKE THOSE OF ANKHMET. WE CANNOT STAND BY. I WOULD BE DOING THIS EVEN WITHOUT ALLIES. "We have targets acquired, a large enemy fleet off the coast. Targets are locked and ready. Awaiting confirmation."
"Roger that targetting, you have permission to fire. Blow those fascists out of the water. You have permission for 100 Tomahawks."
"Confirmed, 100 Tomahawk cruise missiles. T's 1-100 away."
The second the targetting officer finished that sentence, a great roaring and a flsh like lightening erupted. 100 Tomahawk cruise missiles screamed towards their targets, just one wave, with 3 others fired from different bases across Ankhmet.
"Targetting, some of those better hit. That was one expensive salvo."
"I hear that, command. Don't worry."
>>> Agreed. We will concentrate our attack at the city of Ankh.
~ General Mantari of the 7th Imperial Legion <<<
The Imperial first fleet under Mantari was beginning its long trek from Banduria, towards Ankhmet. Hundreds of ships had made their way out of Imperial waters and were approaching Ankhmeti shores. The first wave was slightly smaller—with two of the SDNs, five supercarriers, and the 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th Legions aboard its nearly 500 combat ships and other transport and logistical ships.
Barilus's larger force would follow in one day when it was finished loading—it was taking somewhat longer because of the sheer numbers involved. Mantari was ahead, and proud of himself, and his fleet. Hundreds of miles from Ankhmet, the ships already began forming into an attack formation, preparing for their first strike.
The fleet had departed the harbors with the wild waving and cheering of crowds from the shoreline, primarily from Dominis. It was now morning. The sun was rising in a glorious reddish-orange glow, dispersing the mist and fog that hung over the sea.
Within a few hours, Ankhmet would be within range of long-range Imperial missiles....
~~~~~~~~~~

General Mantari and the Fleet Admiral, Marius Keioshu, were in council at that moment, sitting in the secured office in the Decius Aurelius. As the massive ship sliced through the waves at near top speeds, surrounded by the rest of the vast fleet, Admiral Keioshu traced a line on the map.

"Our attack will be concentrated on Ankh...the capital. A strategic city."

"Very well," said Mantari, looking at the older man with a gesture of distaste for all things naval. "We should use our larger ships to barrage the city from afar...perhaps launch bomber strikes under our fire cover... then launch the Fanatics upon the city. When the Fanatics are finished with it, we bring in the Legions."

"That might work, but what about mines?"

"Mines?"

"The Shogunate's forces mentioned that the sea was heavily mined."

"We can use minesweepers, missiles, and depth charges for that... Really!" Mantari waved dismissively.

"All right, but what about the Ankhmeti navy?"

"I don't think they'll be too much of a threat."

"Good for you. I do." Keioshu was a cautious man, and the cockiness of Mantari irritated him. "Leave the naval planning to me, okay? You deal with the ground attack forces."

"All right. What are your plans for getting rid of the long-range cannons?"

"That's another problem. Our largest shells are 24" and 27", but on land there could be cannons up to 35" mounted."

"Exactly, or even larger... the Freeks have 50" defenses for example."

"That's the Freeks." This time it was Keioshu who made the dismissive gesture. "Anyway, for those long-range missiles will do the trick... either submarine, surface, or air launched."

"Right. So we'll begin our barrage when we reach range?"

"That's more like it."

19-11-2005, 17:01
The Very Small Island Main fleet had been traveling at full speed for well over a day, the fleet was only 300 miles form the coast of Ankhmet.
On the bridge of the lightning the fleets commanders were making the preparations for the coming battle. Admiral Hawks was briefing his men:

" General Mclean has informed me that we have 30,000 marines ready to land as soon as we arrive and a further 3000 special forces 45'000 regular infantry 40'000 heavy infantry , 250 challenger II main battle tanks and 350 RATEL and Warrior fighting vehicles and many more support vehicles, anti aircraft weapons and artillery. There’s also a further 20,000 men being flown in to Ankhmet in our 60 Giant transport aircraft escorted by 100 modified long range dragonfly fighters, with a further 125’000 men waiting back home to be flown in when the planes return however it will take 6 trips to get them all across. Our military advisors are already over Ankhmet, they are waiting to be told which airfields to use to land. Vice Admiral Moore would like to inform the men of our battle plan?" asked Admiral Hawks

" Yes sir, once we arrive near Ankh our transport sips to move into the port and the men are to disembark, Our Supernova and Galaxy class battleships are to take up firing positions around the city , they will be supported by our Freedom and Swift class ships, the gun boats will remain in port and the missile boats will prepare to counter attack when the enemy nears. Our merchant raiders will then hopefully come in from behind and hit the enemy oil tankers and supply craft, this combined with our counter attacks will hopefully cause our enemies to retreat. Since we are so heavily out numbered we will try to engage the enemy fleets one by one so as to have a better chance of beating them."

" Excellent, have all our men ready and in their battle stations the enemy fleets will also be closing in on Ankhmet and I think that combat may begin soon, intelligence informs me that missiles have already been fired from the shore. I want our communications officers the send our plans to Ankhmet, See if threes any changes they want us to make , then ask where our aircraft can land. Every one return to their ships and prepare for war." Ordered Admiral Hawks as the men got up to leave.

IC:

Men on the bridge and in the CIC of the Honor were got by surprise as klaxons started going off around the ship. Instantly, the sailors acquired an air of professionalism.
"Admiral Starwin, sensors detect missile launch out of Ankhmet," one of the CIC operatives shouted.
"Give me the data," he replied.
"Appears to be about a hundred of them. Tomahawks cruise missiles."
"Tomahawks? Those are for use against land targets. Whatever. Order all fleets to begin evasive maneuvers. Have the Aegis squadrons move forward to intercept."
"Aye, aye!"
As the order went out, the close group of fleets spread apart, putting considerable distance between themselves. Aegis Class CIWS/Defense Platform Cruisers moved forward and began sending up a defensive wall. As the missiles sped in, the cruisers sent up a screen of 75mm CIWS fire. Behind the screen, several Valor Classes began putting up 20 and 40mm flak along with some CIWS fire as well, and finally, the big ships began putting theirs up too. The densive measure worked a bit, but that didn't stop the loss of 20 Aegis, and 10 Valor class ships from being lost.

As the attacks died down, and the noise stopped on the Honor's bridge, Admirals Yamamoto and Starwin went on the offensive.
"Order 9th Fleet's boomers to put up 6 missiles each, let's start our attack on Tyr!"
Under water in the midst of the ships, 5 missile submarines opened up their bays and launched 6 SLBMs each. Each missile held 20 warheads, rather than 1 live and 19 dummies. The warheads were specially designed concussion pieces that were set to detonate at -1 feet of altitude. The target of the 30 missiles would be the mine field in front of Tyr. Hopefully, the concusion would take out several mines.

Ministry of State Security

Deep underground, within the bedrock of the nation with no beginning or end, programmers and intelligence officers rushed around to keep the OIC up-to-date on the Coalition-Ankhmet War. Live-feed satellite imagry was being constantly fed to various sources within the NRO-Directorate of the MSS, as well as what was known as the "Citadel," which was the main control centre for the NRO, in -- of all places -- the centre of the underground facility.

MSS chief Yuri Golovko was overseeing the action in the Citadel in the office of the Director of the NRO.

"I'm glad this is efficient," Yuri commented. "God help us if we didn't have the live feed." The Director nodded.

"Indeed, sir. It's a good thing the previous Czar's were smart enough to care about defence and intelligence." Yuri turned back to the director.

With that, I must warn you against landing on Ankhmeti soil. You cannot survive the horrors that will await you in the cities of Ankh and Tyr.

0000 Hours, November 20th, AC 433
Undisclosed Air Base, Ancient Japanese Archipelego Prov., Psi-Pso

The quite night cloaked the medium base that overlooked the ocean. It was built like an after-thought, two of its runways sticking out into the water. Silence reigned over the base, but had one gone past the one inch steel doors to the five hangars, they would've seen a different sight. Inside each, 5 EB-52 Stealth Bombers were being prepared for flight. Like the numerals suggessted, they were the airframes of B-52 heavy bombers, modified for stealth warfare. Each plane was being loaded with 10 Wolveriene Cruise Missiles and gallons upon gallons of fuel. The Wolveriene was unique in that it carried 3 small bomb bays. After emptying them, the missile would kamikaze. For the mission's purpose, war heads and bomblets containing the White Phosphorus incindeary device.

In the bunkers below, the six man flight crews were being briefed:

"As you already know, the Shogunate recently declared war on the nation of Ankhmet. Our Navy is approximately 400 miles from the coast now, with the transports being about 700-800 miles behind. We will be Phase One of the attack plan. The city of Tyr," he pointed at a map, "is built on four tiers. Our focus is the second and fourth tiers, primarily number four. Intelligence shows that tier four contains long range weaponry that could possibly be catastrophic for landers and the offshore fleet. Tier two is secondary priority as the navy's missiles could most likely make a big dent.

"So, our plan is to fly in to about 100 to 75 miles of Tyr under stealth cover. At this point, we will open our bays and release the payload. Each Wolveriene's sensors have been loaded with the image of an opposing missile launcher, AAA, or gun emplacment on all frequencies. The missiles' AIs will be left to choose targets and drop payloads. Your job is to get out. Due to the stealth priorities of this mission, you will not have a fighter escort. Each of your bombers will have 12 Firebird multi-target-lock ATA missiles for defense. Now, you have the plan and the details. Let's see what you can do!"

Cheering rose around the room as the crews ran out and up to their planes.
===========================================
The dark of night was not disturbed as the bombers were rolled out. Hangar lights had been turned out, and now the moonlight was being used for guidence. The only sign of the operation occuring was the glow of instrument panels issuing from the cockpit windscreens. As each bomber rolled out, it added another element to the night, the starting engines made a quiet whine as oppossed to the roar one would expect. The only other thing to indicate the operation was the engine glow and afterburners as they took off. By one in the morning, all 25 bombers had taken off. They would reach their launch position one hour before the navy came in range of their own ammuntion and could start firing themselves. From this point, they'd fire all the way in to cannon range.

Viktor Romanov sat behind his large marble desk, although not in Smorgg this was his headquarters, whilst also managing a nation he paid attention to his ever dwindling Oil company, Romanov Oil Concern was running out of fresh taps and this was pushing the company slowly towards bankruptcy, he scanned through several E-Mails that had been sent to him by his Lover and Vice Premier, Issabelle Yusef, they kept him to speed with current events, the first message told him about some small backwards country trying to annexe some lands belongin to Mexicans, another told him about a terrorist group trying to covertly destroy an empire in a Grand Duchy, he glanced it over but it seemed like it wouldn't work, suddenly he got to a plethora of E-Mails all about the same nation, Ankhmet, "war was declared for human rights abuses" "Ankhmet is outnumbered"

Quickly Romanov took out an atlas and looked over the nations starting with an A, AMF no, All Germany no, An archy no, here it is Ankhmet, looking at the page of info he could see that Ankhmet was an opportunity, hurridly he sent a message back, "look into Ankhmet, tell them we are willing to send aid and possible assistance, Love from Romanov"

Issabelle got the message almost an hour later, Ankhmet, it seemed a waste to her but the calculating mind of Romanov probably knew what to do, she drafted an encoded message to the Ankhmet leader

Dear Sir

We the people of Smorgg wish to send aid to your nation in it's time of need, we understand that the actions you took were no doubt in the interests of you or your nations security, if possible we would consider also sending a small force to assist you, nothing too big as we are only a small nation and cannot afford too many large scale foreign operations.

The Imperator was deep in thought, he could not shake the thought of the imminent attack on Ankhmet, they were vastly outnumbered and looked to be overthrown. Both military and political voices had raised concern over the ligitimacy of the coalitions intent to invade Ankhmet. The Imperator was deeply concerned over the blatant discrimination to the government of Ankhmet merely on political stance and ideals. But nevertheless it was a tough decision, war was already looming with Questors in the Optischerian region over the Optischer Incident (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=454760). Samuel II, the sovereign, was very aware of running their military resources too thin, but he could not ignore the political hegemony which this coalition against Ankhmet represented. He deeply wanted to help a fellow nation that stood up for their political views, no matter the cost, such triumphet and couragious action had united Andaras Prime centuries ago from a poor feudal confederation to the thriving empire. After much deep thought and consideration, the Imperator finally sat down and personally typed his letter to the Ankhmet Soviet.

To: The Government of Ankhmet
From: Imperator Samuel II, Andaras Prime
Subject: Invasion of your country

First let me express my saddness over the current situation and my concern for your people against foreign invasion. But secondly, please let me express my admiration to you for standing up for your political ideals in the face of such strong opposition. I was personally and my nation as a whole was. outraged at such blatant discrimination by other nations for how you maintain order in your nation. Although my nation is not officially socialist, I hold some Stalinist policies for maintain order and authoritarian peace over my subjects, and equality for all those under my Imperium. It is unacceptable for you to be invaded for such views, whatever you have done, I'm sure you did it too maintain order. Although I'm not sending this to discuss military specifics, I do understand you haven't much time. Therefore, if you accept, I will get too how many troops you need. You should know however, that my nation was no official navy, we have several army transports, but nothing of an offensive nature. Only 39 Austin-class transport ships loaned to use by Nebarri Prime for action in the Optischer Incident. I may have to loan transport vessels from you to transport my troops to your country. I'am however very much able to assist you in ground (and some air) based support. Thankyou and I hope you accept.

After 2 and a half days travelling the Very Small island fleet had arrived around the port of Ankh. The transports, supply ships and tankers made there way to the port to unload along with he gun boats, the rest of the fleet got into formation.
The Swift class destroyers where equipped with: 70 cell Mk 41 Vertical Launch Systems, SM2 missile launchers ,2 triple 12.75in torpedo tubes ,5 Phalanx CIWS and 2 8in 54 caliber Mark 45 dual purpose guns as well as depth charges and 2 Seahawk helicopters. These ships formed the outer ring of the defenses.
The Freedom class cruisers were in the next line of defense. They were armed with: 90 Harpoon missiles , 8 Phalanx CIWS, 122 RIM-67 SM-2, BGM-109 Tomahawk missiles, 2 7in guns, 2 25mm guns, 4 12.7mm guns and 2 Seahawks.
The battleships were in the final line of defense
The Galaxy class battleships were armed with:9 16in 50 cal. Mark 7 guns, 16 5in 38 cal. Mark 12 guns, 45 BGM-109 Tomahawk cruise missiles, 16 RGM-84 Harpoon Anti-Ship missiles, 10 20mm 76 cal. CIWS
The Supernova class battleships were armed with 9 18.1in guns, 5 16in guns, 12 20mm 76 cal. CIWS, 40 BGM-109 Tomahawk cruise missiles, 9 6.2in guns.
With the carriers and missile boats behind the battleships.
The main fleet waited in position for the enemy to arrive while the ground troops disembarked and waited to be positioned by the Ankhmet military.

"Reports state that there are enemy ships docked in port, awaiting instructions."

Mantari swore heavily under his breath as the news came in. Flicking on the satellite-generated map of Ankhmet and the surrounding area, he evaluated the situation.

Areas occupied by different armies were sketched in differently. Ankhmet was in red; the Imperial fleet approaching Ankh was in blue. The Pschycotic Pschycos' fleet and the transports behind were masses of green, and a new color had come into play: orange. Ships, according to the map—on RADAR, the outlines of battleships and destroyers were visible. SONAR scans showed no submarines in the area, but there could be stealth ones.

"Deploy a contingent of LD's," Mantari radioed the swift order. From under the main fleet, 45 Lernea-class SSGNs and 25 Dominis-class SSBNs, all stealth measures online, set out at a slow speed of around 16 knots, low and out of enemy SONAR. Ahead of them was a contingent of minesweepers, scouting out the area for mines to destroy them before they did any harm to Bandurian shipping or torpedoes.

The submarines approached to within 480 km of the Ankhmeti shore, keeping all stealth measures on to prevent detection on even the most advanced SONAR systems. Then the Lernea-class subs fired a volley of torpedoes. The guided torpedoes were a strange Bandurian invention; they would shoot along the seafloor, out of most SONAR range, until directly underneath their targets, when they would rotate and shoot upwards into the belly. With little time to detect the torpedoes—they would not be noticed by most ships until directly underneath the ship—and no obvious source, most ships would have little time to use countermeasures or evade the guided torpedoes in time. And with the tungsten tips the missiles could penetrate most armor. Designed as an anti-superdreadnaught missile, they were also highly useful against other ships or even submarines.

The initial missile rain of 45 torpedoes was simply to test enemy defenses and was fired mostly at battleships and capital ships. When—if—the rain hit, a second, larger wave of 225 torpedoes would be fired...this one targeted across the whole fleet.

The torpedoes sped along underwater towards the ships, the first hint of the destruction to come, unleashed upon Ankhmeti shores.

The flight had been long and perilous for the crews of the EB-52s. Each man was constantly glued to the displays, looking for any sign of detection. Finally, hours later, they had come up on the launch point. As they reached the 100 mile mark, the bomb bay doors came open, briefly exposing it to radar. As they prepared to launch, the sun peaked over the horizon. The pilot of the lead bomber had the pleasure of the first words of the war, his farm boy accent only making it better,

"G'mornin' Sunshine!"

The missiles, one after another, dropped out of the bay. There engines ignited and the headed for sea-skiming mode at ten feet above sea level. The other 24 bombers followed suit, dropping ten each and then turning away. Tiers Four and Two were targeted by the special bomb bay missiles.

The Gray House

President Mike Sarzo was looking through the newspaper reading the breaking story of the Praetonian political situation disintegrating in front of his eyes during a few spare minutes before the Cabinet meeting at the situation room. He put the newspaper down and looked up as Vice President for Defence John Newman knocked gently at his door.

"Come in."

"Mike, have you heard the report about the war in Ankhmet?"

"What war in Ankhmet?"

"Banduria and Psychotic Psychoes have declared war on Ankhmet and have prepared a force to 'liberate' their nation."

"You mean depose a lawfully-elected government from power."

"Exactly, Mike. What kind of assets can we spare?"

"John, our relations with Ankhmet aren't exactly cozy. We can't and won't get involved in this affair except to offer peace negotiations."

"Mike, that's never going to fly, and you know it."

"I'm aware of that, John," Sarzo said. He stood up and walked over to Newman slowly. Lowering his voice as he edged closer to his Vice President for Defence, he spoke in deliberate tones.

"We've already got too many irons in the fire for direct involvement. I wouldn't even recommend sending a task force over there. However, we can do something without getting too heavily into it."

"What do you mean?"

"Surely we have a stealthy submarine we can send out there to, um, aid the Ankhmeti war effort?"

"What can one submarine do, against two enemy navies?"

"Commerce raiding expedition," Sarzo said. "Torpedo warships that happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time."

Newman's eyes widened. His face turned ashen and his mouth opened in protest.

"But Mike, if they find out, it's a tacit declaration of war!"

"If they find out," Sarzo said. "If the sub gets sunk or captured, we deny its existence or we simply announce the sub went rogue. If you've got a skilled enough crew out there, they can wreak some serious damage to shipping before they ever get caught."

Newman's face still betrayed considerable doubt, but he nodded his head slowly. Finally, after taking what seemed to be an eternity, he spoke.

"Very well, Mike. I've got just the sub for the job."

ISS New Copenhagen

Captain Edward Craig was pleased with the "refit" the New Copenhagen underwent. It was the first of what was going to be a new subclass of the Navarre-class stealthy SSNs that were the mainstay of the Incorporated Sarzonian Navy. Craig had spent considerable time with now-Captain Norman Spence aboard the old Bolash-class SSK Liestes and took part in the Sarz-Panteran War with the pre-refit New Copenhagen.

The refit was really the construction of a new boat to different specifications that made the boat displace nearly 1,000 tonnes more and reduced its torpedo tube allottment from six to four. Instead of torpedo tubes built just for the 533 mm Silver ASW and ASuW torpedo, it would be outfitted with torpedo tubes capable of launching the Bayonet heavy torpedo that measured a full 650 mm. With a nuclear warhead, the Bayonet could wipe out an entire battlegroup. Conventionally armed, it could still punch a hole in just about any keel.

The piece de resistance of the New Copenhagen was the adopting of a titanium/aluminum alloyed honeycomb frame that strengthened the hull against any possible threat. It wasn't quite the monster the new Poseidon class SSAN was, but it was going to be one tough boat to damage.

The New Copenhagen was running a steady 10 knots on the surface en route to its destination in the Pacific when it received a communicade from Naval Command in Nicksia.

Top secret message. Note: Mission profile has changed. Repeat, mission profile has changed. ISS New Copenhagen to divert to international waters near Ankhmet on commerce interdiction mission. Rig for silent running. Do not communicate with anyone, friend or foe. If you can make clean break for Ankhmeti ports clear of enemy attack, you may coordinate with them, but do not break radio silence unless necessary. If you're captured, government will deny existence.]

Well, ain't that a bitch, Craig thought. He went to the intercom, well aware that it may be one of the last times he's able to contact his crew this openly.

"All hands, this is the Captain. We're being given a new set of orders. Our mission is to raid commerce and interdict in Psychotic Psychoes and Bandurian shipping efforts. We are to maintain strict radio silence.

"I can not guarantee that we'll able to come back from this mission alive. But Sarzonia expects you all to do your duty for her and for the freedom and sovereignty of Ankhmet." Craig shut off the intercom and stared ahead for a moment before giving the order that would send the New Copenhagen to its fate.

"Mr. Wood, prepare to submerge."

"Aye, sir."

The VSI main fleet had made good use of the time they had been stationed outside Ankh. Sonobuoys had been placed in the water around the fleet by the seahawks and Navy aircraft were patrolling the sky’s around the fleet.
Onboard the destroyer Explorer, the ships intelligence staff monitored the water around the fleet. While the communications officers sent a report to the Lightning:

" This is Officer Maxwell reporting to Admiral Hawks. Our scans and aircraft have spotted several enemy fleets around this area. The closest fleet belongs to Banduria, it doesn’t look like they've launched missiles yet but...

Before Maxwell could finish his report several missiles slammed into the starboard side the Explorer. Several other destroyers and 2 cruisers were hit, a few of the missiles made it through to one of the Galaxy class ships.
A Seahawk helicopter was circling the fleet at the time of the attack and was in the best position to report damage to the Admiral:

" Lightning this is Seahawk 104 reporting in. Looks like around 50 missiles were launched. The Explorers taken heavy damage by the looks of things, we cant see much cause of all the smoke and the communications towers badly damaged so there out of radio contact. The cruiser Nove has also received some heavy damage but we should be able to fix her up pretty quick. The other ships don’t look too badly damaged but we suggest sending the Explorer back to port. Over and out"

Onboard the lightning the Admirals command staff decided there next move.

" They caught us of guard that time we need to improve security around the fleet, make sure its not as easy for them next time. Looks like our defensive formation held up well the carriers and most of the battleships were unaffected."

"We got the enemies location sir, should we hit them back now?"

"yes, launch 32 modified RGM-84 Harpoon missiles and have 35 Dragonflies armed and ready as soon as possible. Hit them and get the fleets formation adjusted to cover for the Explorer."

The harpoon missiles were fired at the Bandurian fleets a few minutes after the Admiral gave the order, and the dragonflies prepared to launch in the next hour. The missiles were all aimed to the enemy surface ships, they were
equipped with 221 kg penetration high-explosive blast warhead. A few seconds After they were launched from there firing tubes the missiles own engines kicked in and they flew over the sea surface towards the enemy fleet, the missiles had been modified to give them a range of around 4 times were standard range.

Hundreds of miles away from the main fleet 3 of the merchant raiders had linked up as had begun tracking the Pschycotic Pschycos' transports, they hoped for easy picking since the main fleet was a bit ahead of these ships.

[ooc: TORPEDOES.... not missiles... and the submarines who launched them were more than 320 km from the main fleet, which was 800 km from your ships. Besides, you don't know that it was the main fleet that launched the torpedoes (or even a Bandurian fleet for that matter)...]

The New Copenhagen began its descent by filling the ballast tanks with sea water and the boat smoothly slipped beneath the waves. Craig smiled at the thought. His crew were among the best the ISN had to offer, and the ISN fleet as a whole was among the world's finest. It may no longer be among the world's largest navies, but numbers meant little to an organisation that prided itself on being first class.

Craig reviewed the charts as the New Copenhagen reached the depths, 600 metres under the sea. The sub slowed from the 25 knots needed for top speed to a speed of nine knots, to allow it to get bearings on the Psychotic Psychoes and Bandurian fleets that were engaging Ankhmet. Craig knew his mission wasn't going to be to engage warships, but he needed to be aware of how far they were from his boat and how much time he would have if he intended to launch an attack.

When the sub slowed enough, Craig ordered the towed array put out to allow it to stalk its prey. It found several hulls nearly 100 metres from the very outskirts of the Bayonet's range.

"General quarters," Craig ordered. The lights in the submarine changed colour from the off white of normal operations to the blood red of battle stations as the crew of the New Copenhagen rushed to their action stations. The charge of adrenaline gave a perceptible electricity to the atmosphere of the control room as Craig went to the periscope.

"Down periscope," Craig ordered.

"Down periscope, aye," the response came from Second Lieutenant Bart Fisher, who promptly followed the command. "Should I raise the photonic masts?"

"Indeed, lieutenant," Craig said. He briefly pondered why Navy Command kept missing Fisher on its promotion rolls to First Lieutenant, since he was often a step ahead of his commanding officer in anticipating his orders and realising what he needed to do.

"Sir, a course change to five degrees rudder will give us a more effective firing solution," Fisher said.

"Acknowledged Mr. Fisher, helm, steady course 085."

"Steady course 085, aye sir," Ensign Larry Wood replied. His hands moved with the skill of a lieutenant commander who had been working submarines for years. Unlike the Incorporated Sarzonian Army, which got an education in new training programmes, the ISN's training methods were among the best in the world.

The Naval Academy and the Navy War College, in Nicksia and Portsmouth, respectively, only graduated the best of the best. Enlisted crews attended what people called Navy Prep, the Marcus Patinkin Naval Preparatory College, and didn't send rates out to sea unless they completed all course objectives. All of those combined to improve the sub crew's capabilities, but beyond training, this crew had been together for 18 months on their previous deployment while the old New Copenhagen was on its final voyage and they were awaiting the newly built "refit."

"Approaching outside of firing range," Fisher said.

"Weapons officer, load torpedo bays one and two with Silver torpedoes."

"Load torpedo bays one and two with Silvers, aye, sir." The Silver was the standard 533 mm torpedo that was previously the standard ASW and ASuW torpedo in the Incorporated Sarzonian Navy, but was eclipsed in favour of the larger Bayonets. Still, for the mission profile of anti-shipping attacks, the Silver would work perfectly against most surface targets. Besides, Craig wanted to save the Bayonets for much larger targets.

"Torpedo tubes loaded and ready, sir," First Lieutenant Lisa Broyles said. "Firing solutions on two of the closest targets. Getting confirmation that the communications signals match Psychotic Psychoes frequencies."

"Acknowledged," Craig said. He thought for a moment about the next word, one that would ensure that there was no turning back for his ship and his crew. He knew if he sent his fish on their way, he would begin a life on the run with his professional crew and he would have to use his wits to keep his crew alive to strike fear into the hearts of these new enemies.

"Fire."

With a push of a button, Broyles complied and the first shots fired in anger by this new stealthy sub rushed out of the tubes as the New Copenhagen crew awaited the results. He knew he'd have to wait there longer than he'd like because he used wire-guided torpedoes for this first salvo and he didn't want the wires to break.

"This is f*cking typical. We order ships, then someone declares a war that will rely greatly of naval power ten years before we can get our hands on the damned things."

General Weishaupt turned towards the staff of the CD HQ.

"What's happened now?"

"Torpedo strikes on the fleets defending us, and more recently some bloody hick pilot made the historical first words of engagement. Then he fired some missiles. Enemy fleets still inbound, but the good news is that the wildfire mines are in place. If they take Ankh or Tyr, they won't hold either city. We have weapons and ammunition from the factories flooding in, and fresh recruits from the victories at Ra-haven."

"The situation is good for the moment. I want heavy concenrations of patriot systems moved behind the beaches to prevent missile damage. Give the infantry stingers."

"Aye, sir."

Bridge of the ICS Ronin, Valor Class

Blue CIC lights began flashing red as the three merchant raiders were picked up on radar. "Commander!" the rad. op. shouted. "Three inbound hostiles. Surface contacts, small to medium sized!"
The ship's commander and captain jumped down off the bridge to take a look at the screen. "They're just moving into cannon range." He signaled the fire control officer. "Nitaki, three raiders coming in. We're broadside to them. Get all turrets facing them and fire away. Also, give a Harpoon salvo, if the cannons miss, the missiles won't." He called one of the sensor operators. "Shinakai, there might be subs with these guys, get active sonar online."
"Aye sir." As the sailor called Shinakai hurried to activate the sonar systems, the heavy machinery of the four 20" dual-turrets could be heard starting up. The grinding and griting sounded loud for such a new and sophisticated ships. Indeed, the whole room seemed to shake. The captain jumped back up to the full bridge. In front of his ship, three others had seen the hazard, and word came to him that two behind him had as well. It was fascinating seeing the large turrets swivel around, their barrels leaning far out over the water. The fire control officer, Nitaki, called back up again, "prepare for full broadside!" No sooner had the words left his lips than the whole ship shuddered under the recoil of the four massive turrets. Booms reechoed around them as the ships ahead and behind them open fired. A new sound encompassed the battlecruiser, it was the whooshing of three Harpoon anti-shipping missiles being added to that of the artillery shells.

Shinakai the sonar operator called back up. "Captain! Sonar contact bearing XXX degrees, depth XXX meters! SHIT! Torpedo launch, torpedo launch."
"Damnit! Nitaki, fire torpedoes to those coordinates, use 10 of them!
*on it!* Radio, alert the transports to deploy nets! *Aye!* Hokias, (DSO) launch our own nets!"
The captain watched out the windscreen as the torpedoes let fly into the water, followed by the nets. These nets were rockets hurled 30 yards from the ship. When in the water, they would deploy a steel net that reached a depth of 50 feet, well below the keel line for the transports and battlecruisers. Looking around, the captain saw the transports doing the same thing, the whole fleet weaving a giant wall of netting. "BRASE FOR POSSIBLE IMPACT!!!"=======================

On the shores of Ankhmet, a squad of sentry troops stood, shivering. They knew the invasion would be soon, and they knew that it would be violent, making their job of scanning the sea all the more terrifying.

"I say we run. Make a dash for the mountains."

"The commissars would spot us."

"Of course, 'Ivan'."

"YOu may laugh, but they've done horrible things..."

"According to the commissariat."

The men manning the casemates and missile emplacements had plenty of time to watch the cruise missiles get closer. As soon as the missiles got within range the patriots opened up, joined by a fire screen from the flak guns and countermeasure systems that were dotted around the defences.

When they hit, they caused quite a lot of damage. Thanks to the flak screen and patriot attacks not as much damage was caused as could have been. At least two casemates were irreperably damaged, their guns destroyed. 10 of the tightly-packed Patriot systems were gone, with a further 5 damaged.

The efficient railway system kicked into action almost immediately. Several tonnes of sandbags and replacement troops and equipment were dispatched from supply depots, joined by many more countermeasure systems.

Mantari smiled confidently as he looked over the latest reports. Damage reports had yet to come in from the submarines, but it appeared things were going well. An enemy fleet stationed outside Ankh appeared to have fired some missiles at them, approaching now—a bit of bother, but the destroyers and cruisers ahead would deal with them...

As the missiles were recorded coming in from 800 km out, Imperial destroyers launched six EMP anti-missile missiles, which detonated a safe distance away from the Imperial fleet, knocking out the missile guidance and sending most of them veering far off track. From there on it was easy for the ships to make evasive maneuvers and hit the few remaining missiles with CIWS and anti-missile lasers. One frigate was holed, and a destroyer took light damage, but the damage could be easily repaired.

In return, under the sea, the submarines fired 225 more torpedoes, aimed all across the VSI fleet, a grim hail of destruction, and then broke formation to avoid being targeted again by enemy forces.

But the navy was deemed no problem at this time, for Mantari was planning something more.

The next stage was beginning.

"Let's send out some of our aircraft now," he ordered, to the five supercarriers he had with his force. "Fighter bombers with fighter escorts... take out mines if you detect any, and anything else if you don't."

A total of 240 IF-19 'Wolverine' naval fighters, 144 IF-24 'Wyvern' air superiority/strike fighters, and 216 IA-71 'Skyfire' fighter bombers lifted off from three of the carriers, leaving more than 600 more planes in reserve aboard the other carriers and the two superdreadnaughts, heading towards Ankh. Staying high and with radar jamming and all stealth measures on, keeping in the clouds, the huge air armada began making its way towards Ankhmeti airspace.

Two hundred kilometers from Ankh, the IA-71s temporarily dropped their stealth measures in order to launch a volley of 432 LRPASMs at the Ankhmeti missile emplacements and scattered liberally throughout the city of Ankh, as well as 108 anti-ship missiles aimed at the Very Small Island fleet's battleships and logistical ships such as tankers and hospital ships—guessing rightly that no navy could survive long without food, oil, or a place to keep the wounded. Then the armada broke formation, individual flights disappearing into the clouds to prevent detection, awaiting the enemy's next move.

"Admirals Yamamoto, Starwin," the CIC's commanding officer began, addressing the two men in charge of the current fight. "Bomber strikes are reported to be a moderate success, taking out a couple of casemates and Patriot defense systems."
Admiral Yamamoto pondered over the report for a few moments. His partner, Admiral Starwin did the same, his brow furrowing. Finally, Grande Admiral Yamamoto spoke up, "well, it appears that we've not done enough damage to get anywhere near range to land troops. Commander, are we within aircraft range?"
"Aye, sir. We are extremely close. Fighters launched now could get there in a half hour and strike," replied the commander.
"Very good. Very, very good," said Yamamoto. "Radio the Islands and several Arkhangels. I want 500 fighters out now."
"Aye sir. Weapons package?"
"I want three Diablo sat-link ATS and three Firebird sat-link ATA missiles on each one. Also, radio the boomers. I want more SLBMs launched at the Tier Two targets. What're you waiting for??? MOVE!!!"

As the orders went out, the elevators of the massive triple and dual deck carriers went into operation. Modified F-14Z V-winged, satellite linked fighters were wheeled out onto the decks. Unlike normal protocal, they each headed immediately for the targets. However, the number of carriers launching planes was large, so there were quickly 50 hundred fighters in the sky. the ICS Island SDN tri-carrier served as the control for them, and a broadcast was soon sent out for them, "attention all pilots, targets are all on the 4th Tier defense platform. Try to avoid striking the third, but DO NOT allow that to affect effeciency. Katana Command over and out."

Back in the midst of the task force, the 15 tenth fleet boomers flooded their silos and openned the doors. Each sub launched 4 SLBMs. Like last time, their were 20 warheads, and none of them were duds, all were live. However, instead of being concussion rounds like the first salvo, the warheads were armed with White Phosphorus incindiary devices. Sailors across the Force were taken by surprise as the missiles shot above the waves, and ascended into the high atmosphere, where the reentery device released a hail of warheads down toward the Tier Two defenses.

"Grande Admiral Yamamoto, we'll be in cannon range in 3 hours. The supply force has come under moderate attack, appears to be merchant raiders, three, and one unknown sub using a CAT drive. Valor escorts are holding up excellently. Forces will be ready to deploy in 12 hours."
"Thank you, keep me informed."

Katana Task Force
Flagship ICS Honor
75 Miles off Ankhmet Coast....

The admirals were standing on the bridge, looking out the front windscreen as the massive vessel clipped through the waters. They were roughly 25 miles from calling General Quarters on the ship. Suddenly, an alert flashed across the LCD screens posted above the windscreens.

Alert! Alert! Mission objectives cancelled. Pull out
of Ankhmet waters immedietly. New Mission: Quadrant xxx....Nation: Jenrak
Make all speed. Port landing at Ouridna. Alert! Alert!

A code followed the message that was being lopped marque style across the screens. Admiral Yamamoto began muttering to himself, "It's the shogun's code. Looks like he found a better use for 8 million soldiers."
Admiral Starwin was next to him. "Looks that way," he said.
Yamamoto whirled around and spoke to the helmsman, "captain, head for that quadrant. I want the quickest route out of hostile waters."
"Aye, sir," he replied, spinning the wheel. The prow of the ship began moving sluggishly to starboard. Across the fleet, ships mimiced the move, heading out of Ankhmet's waters.

Supply Force
125 miles off Ankhmet Coast...

The massive convoy switched headings, following the Task Force out toward the new objectives, to arrive at the same time....

[ooc: Yeah, it looks like I'm going to have to withdraw as well. Exams are next week and I'll have very little time, at best, for RPing. Sorry about this.]
