Minignu (Skandinavian liberal paradise)

The people's republic of Minignu believes in having a welfare state so that it can help it's poorest and worst off citizens well. It's spending is focused on education and welfare as the nation believes tht it's people are the most important resource available. Private businesses are put behind the well being of the individual.

Corporate Monarchy, although the Monarchy bit is a bit of a technicality. You see, the King and all his descendants have been dead for about a century. In order to prevent civil war, a Regent was elected by the populace, making the nation a democratic monarchy. Over the next century, PRA came into power, gradually buying out the government. Now, the Regent is solely elected by shareholders of Pale Rider Arms, and the Quetzal family owns a full 51% of the stock.

Currently the government simply supports PRA, with Daniel Quetzal acting as both CEO of Pale Rider Arms and Regent-Elect. PRA provides services to every level of Otagian society. PRA is benificent, following the philosophy that happy customers and employees are good customers and employees. Still, PRA exists mainly to make money, which it rakes in hand over fist. Competition with PRA is allowed, although most private businesses don't get much farther than the small business level, as competing directly with the Pale Rider usually ends badly.

Banduria
16-11-2005, 21:17
The Holy Imperium of Banduria is an empire, governed by a sole Holy Emperor and his cabinet of ministers and advisors. Formerly the Imperium's legislative body was the Senate, but that was dissolved under Emperor Decius Aurelius II. The current ruler, Lucius I, restored the Senate but the laws governing it reduced it to little but an advisory body. Freedom of speech is unheard of, and ideologies such as communism, socialism, and Nazism are outlawed.

The economic system of the Imperium is unquestionably unrestrained capitalist. While industry tends to be heavily subsidized in return for the military force of corporations, the Imperium has allowed some corporations to gain monopolies. For instance, Conquest Industries Inc. currently holds a monopoly over the Arms Manufacturing, Uranium Mining, and Oil Processing Industries.

We'll go with "capitalist dictatorship".

Elyria-Lorain
16-11-2005, 22:14
The Grand Duchy of Elryia-Lorain is classed as a constitutional tetrarchy. The region of Avignon is comprised of three nations: Elyria-Lorain, Alsace-Lorain, and St. Germain-Lorain. The three individual heads of state rule the region co-equally, from a common capitol.

We have decided that the citizens of Avignon have the right to a direct say as to how the government manages the region's affairs. It was therefore put into law that, on an average of 2-3 times per month, the citizens voted on all issues that came before the senators and tribunes. ( There are 2 senators and 1 tribune from each of the individual nations.) This voting is done electronically, from the privacy of the citizen's own home. Votes are tallied within minutes of the voting, the results published, and a final determination is made by the citizens via a simple "yes" or "no" vote, indicating that the measure will be either elected or rejected.

All able-bodied citizens are required from the age of 16 to carry sidearms. We at present have a rather small army, and this arming of the citizenry gives us a militia-type force. All citizens are required to attend military training at least 3 times per year.

The Armed Republic of Skibereen(Capitalist Paradise)

The Armed Republic of Skibereen is a massive, devout nation, renowned for its compulsory military service. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 3.932 billion are either ruled by a small, efficient government or a conglomerate of multinational corporations; it's difficult to tell which.

Skibereen is a functioning violent anarchy.

Spending a century in civil war, modern reformations occured, Republican Democracy was the goal.

However after so much power had been held by so many seperate paramilitary counter government factions the republican idea crumbled at the first oppotunity for insurrection.

Now, the primary government is the strongest Military faction which leads the republic.

Once it was noted how adversely inter faction fighting effected the civilian economy and the very existance of the country there now exists an unspoken rule of warfare strictly between combatants.

Civilians taking arms to defend businessess ad neighborhoods from paramilitaries seeking power is common.

The rule of the day is "Always protect the Market, everything elese if fair game."

Giving Skibereen a growing tourist industry for people seeking the thrill of civil chaos with as little risk as possible.

Corporation flourish in this market because they protected, and any group attacking a companies assets risk the wrath of every other faction as well as the populace as a whole.

Anyway--Capitalist Paradise.

Leader wise the Suprainister educates his successor to do the best he can for the role, Usually it's the son of the Suprainister however though if that son does not show certain virtues or qualities, I.E he's a raging Chav (not that any of those exist in Novacom :P ) he wouldn't succeed his father and instead another child would be chosen to succeed and be prepared.

The Council of Ministers is my Legislature, Politics as a subject does not exist in my nation, as studying politics is viewed by the people as arrogant as you assume you would make a good leader or be wanted as a leader, instead you get the chance to be put on the list of candidates for a position as Minister, Only people who have studied their subject area and have done extremly well I.e a Masters in economics for a person would allow them to put their name forward for minister of Economics. The candidates are then whittled down through a series of campaigns, political parties are banned and all candidates are given equal resources to publicise themselves, they however must make clear what their policies will be. if those policies are proven to be false or not followed up by the end of that minister's term of a maximum of 8 years then he will not be allowed to run again. The Council of Ministers meets regularly and while they and the Suprainister usually come to agreement on policies there have been few rare and historic times when agreement has not been met and the Suprainister has used his executive powers to bring about action if and when needed.

The Theory behind the Council of Ministers is that only those who are best able to serve their people may run. It is an honour and a privillege to even be put on the preliminary list. Many would put their name forward but only 10 Candidates actually run, there isn't any backblading or anything like that after all they are their to serve the people and since Novacom Society is a great beleiver in duty.

Jagonia is a type of Military Autocracy, somewhat similar to Fascism, known as an "Imperial Hierarchy". We have an autocrat: the Emperor; and his cronies; the hierarchs, with individual groupings, eg. consul. The hierarchs are elected by the Emperor and are usually relatives, close friends and military leaders. Jagonia believes in no civil rights or political freedoms; the state owns everything, and freedom to express yourself in any way is forbidden. Martial law is in permanent effect, and everything is monitered, à la 1984.

Despite its civil and political flaws, Jagonia's economy is booming.

Complete anarchy. The government has little power and can only unite the country in times of national emergency. Some legislators were apparently acting on a logical fallacy and decided that with no laws crime would drop 100%, so all laws in the Czardaian constitution were repealed ages ago and new ones have never been made for some reason. :p

I'd fall into "libertarian democracy", although it's technically a direct democracy.

J.L.ism

What is J.L.ism?

J.L.ism, a recently minted phrase, is the ideology subscribed to by Generalissimo J.L., who has been President-for-Life of Roach-Busters since the May 1 2004 coup d'etat (note; the IRL day Roach-Busters was created by me on NS).

Could you describe J.L.ism?

J.L.ism emphasizes an extremely libertarian, laissez faire, ultra-capitalistic economic policy, coupled with an extremely authoritarian, iron-fisted political policy. While J.L.ism supports federalism and grants considerable autonomy to overseas territories and local governments, the Generalissimo wields absolute control, and whenever there is something not to his liking, he can change it at the drop of a hat. J.L.ism strongly emphasizes patriotism, unity, undying allegiance to the government, and deep pride in Roach-Busterian culture and traditional values. J.L.ism is also characterized by pronounced rabid anticommunism, anti-Nazism, and anti-fascism.

Describe J.L.ist foreign policy

J.L.ist foreign policy stresses militant, unconditional opposition to communism and the willingness to resort to any measure deemed necessary to combat it. As such, J.L.ism tolerates (albeit reluctantly) alliances with governments strongly at odds with J.L.ism, so long as they share a hatred of communism. Aside from its aggressive anticommunist actions, J.L.ism encourages a relatively neutral foreign policy, although loyalty to allies and a willingness to help them to the fullest extent no matter what, is encouraged.

How do race and religion fit into J.L.ism?

J.L.ism is vehemently, almost fanatically, anti-racist, and racist citizens of J.L.ist nations are severely and brutally persecuted, as racism instigates tension, disunity, and conflict, which fuels discontent and makes the populace ripe for communist control. As for religion, J.L.ism stresses traditional values, such as opposition to abortion, gay marriage, pre-marital sex, etc., yet opposes a state-endorsed religion and strongly emphasizes secularism.

Are personality cults essential to J.L.ism?

Not per se, but they are encouraged, and the Generalissimo has a massive personality cult that puts Mao's to shame.

What is J.L.ism's stance on crime?

Criminals are scum, to be killed as mercilessly and heinously as possible.

What about the arts and science? Should government support them?

No, why bother? It's a waste of taxpayers' money. Science/technology vital to defense is an exception, though, as is art that may serve propaganda purposes.

Anything else we should know?

Can't think of a thing. If you have questions though, fire away.

Frelune would best be described as anarchic, although there is a despot in charge who collects some small measure of taxes and spends them mostly on education and research. "The Free Land of Ctrl Alt Leet is a tiny, environmentally stunning nation, notable for its complete lack of prisons. Its compassionate population of 6 million are fiercely patriotic and enjoy great social equality; they tend to view other, more capitalist countries as somewhat immoral and corrupt.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, socially-minded government stops and the rest of society begins, but it devotes most of its attentions to Social Welfare, with areas such as Law & Order and Defence receiving almost no funds by comparison. The average income tax rate is 48%, but much higher for the wealthy. Private enterprise is illegal, but for those in the know there is a slick and highly efficient black market in Automobile Manufacturing.

Voting is compulsory. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown. Ctrl Alt Leet's national animal is the pirate, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the jolly roger."

More correctly Ctrl Alt Leet should be considered a technocratic-socialist-democratic quasi-anarchy, similar to the utopian planet of Ursula K. LeGuin's novel The Dispossessed. Ctrl Alt Leet, however, has an economy almost exclusively based on human resources, mainly in the Information Technology sector. It boasts some of the best and brightest open-source programmers, and is at the forefront of activism for freedom of information.

Fascism, in the style postulated by its official systematizer, Giovanni Gentile.

To quote from some of what I've explained to my regional kin-nations;

" 'Fascist' is the ontology I have sought dialectical synthesis with, when rightly perceived, it is perfect for what I am attempting to achieve with my own brand of social governance. A totalitarian, all-incorporative state, neither public nor private as in the foundation laid out in Giovanni Gentile's "Genesis & Structure of Society". Beyond mutualism or meritocracy ... Nor should non-meritocracy be construed to mean absence of hierarchy, (though some, feudal for example, forms of non-meritocracy go hand in hand with given elite castes of no merit whatsoever), it simply means an all-inclusive state. It makes use of all its social persons to the best of their means without making it unnecessarily difficult for them, there is still syndicalism in Fascism regardless of what the polarized (stereotyped) "left" asserts. It isn't the purpose of government to augment itself with its own constituents, unless you're a democracy, which we're not ... as long as our governance takes heed of all rightfully in regards as far as the terminus of our state, it is a totalitarian system."

" Full implementation of state recognition isn't to be construed as a "reward" or counter-action to put the people ahead of the state, The state is the great extention of the individual but it is always above and superior to the people. ... A proper totalitarian state legitimizes all private ventures as an arm of the state itself, while they're remaining distinctly self-unique and private, though fused to public interest. ... This is based on the personal interests of individuals & their direction with how said individuals choose to organize themselves under the state, all business, and whatever other specialization an indivdual proclaims, is federalized in public corporatives to an infintesmal level. Creating a personalized bureaucracy in proportion to our national constituency. Meaning the laws of the state are not posed to limit the individual or restrict them to a withheld area of functioning, like some superficial police-state, rather it serves to multiply the potency of each individual, and lengthen their actions beyond what they would be capable to do alone, this is the purpose of the state, the extension of the individual and the hallmark of civilization."

" In addition to all this, there is a general will, a natural law of ethics based on nomothetics which realize themselves as the mean value of all individuals comprising the state, between the unified 'public & private' interests, and this is the surpreme constitution, a living, organic cultural thing which is defined by measuring all factors of activity within the matrix of society, which progresses and changes with the needs of society. Therefore the true Fascist meaning of Totalitarian; "total" as a greater swath of possibility than a 'total range' within a predefined one, or rather than a 'total' process of simplification to a predefined one, which isn't total as an end result; All of this is much more Fascist than any pejorative definition available to your average layman today."

Theocratic Imperalism

The Emperor is not considered to be ordained by God to rule, but is considered the best to rule. Parliament and Congress have both been dissolved and local governments are ruled by mayors and in some communities there is democratic elections, but they are few and far between. Most of the time the various churches generally are the guiding light for communities, though their influence doesn't go too deep. Most fanatical, racist, bigot churches all tend to be shut-down by the Inquisitors who refuse to allow fanatical ideaology to gain a foothold anywhere. Though liberalism isn't tolerated, due to the "Floodgate" trend it has.

Pastors are highly respected and meet regularly with the Emperor to discuss possibility of reforms, current affairs of state, but primarily focus on religion and attempt to teach the Emperor to follow God's Will more directly.

You only provide Capitalist Dictatorship, you don't list any normal forms of capitalism.

My country upholds the social contract first a foremost, the social contract as written by John Locke. The citizens give up certain rights such as the right to kill so that the government might fulfill its moral obligation to protect life, liberty and property. The way the government operates is a constitutional pure democracy. While the people have power over every decision, they can't violate certain fundamental principles such as the rights of Life, Liberty, Property, Bearing Arms, etc..

In regards to the economy we're a capitalist free market economy. When I say free market economy, I MEAN free market economy, the goverment takes very little intervention in anything economic, there are no social programs whatsoever. No socialist insecurity, no welfare, no public schools, no income tax. The government only takes a sales tax to fund the most essential needs of the government such as a military and municipal water systems. Everything else is privately owned by individuals and large corporations, including schools. Which people can easily afford while I'm not taking income tax.

Supposedly I'm a Corporate Police State, but in reality I'm something more akin to a Hereditary Monarchy and Personality Cult, with the state religion based around the Monarchy's absurd (though widely believed) claim to be descendants of Muhammad. My country is a strange mixture of democratic, anarchic, and monarchic views. In the story that I'll never RP because I'm too damn impatient for forum scenes, my country's basically ruled by mob families. Only they're Criminalian, not Italian. Heck, the country's called Criminalia for a reason - crime's through everything. Decadence, but with good standing and good teaching. Mothers want their children to become smart power-hungry folks, don't they? Families work together, essentially, but also depose one another for greater prestige. There is no ruling House, per se, but there is a group of families that work in the prime interest of the nation itself. Other than that, bullying, rampant chaos or fights on the streets or even at home are frowned upon, but not quite illegal. Anything goes as long as you can get away with it in Criminalia.
Krwyzwalistan
18-11-2005, 08:05
The Incorporated States of Krwyzwalistan is a corporate dictatorship (ruled by the Minister of Commerce, Mary Read), but is socially liberal. I don't care what my people do on their own time as long as they show up on time for military training/work the next morning. Of course, any hint of company disloyalty is severely punished, and there is only one Company. Nothing above the Company, nothing outside the Company, all that good stuff.

Actually, it's not a bad place to live if you play by the rules. Most of the profits from international trade are funnelled back to the workers (aka "citizens") in the form of public works, entertainments, and military (mostly naval) defence. Though the occational sabotage plot or coup has to be put down, the people are surprisingly loyal to their fascist corporate state, and their piratical dictator - er - Minister, as is she to them (it's nice to have a dictator who cares, isn't it?).

The Dictorial Republic of Sumer is, just that, a Dictorial Republic with slight Theocratic leanings.

The government is run by a constitutionally restricted Dictator with a staff, all being members of the armed forces. The Dictator is advised and assisted by group of elected Citizens known as the Civil Senate which, under the Constitution, has the power to remove and replace the Dictator with the support of the people.

The government policy is rhoughly, "by the people, for the people". To this end the government likes to take a balanced approach withi social and economic problems. Healthcare, Education, Essential Services, TV, Radio, and Internet are among the things provided for free by the governmen. While major industries are government owned and controlled, private buisness is also a large part of the economy, although heavily regulated.
