One Man and his Colony of Steel: The Greater Union (Hogsweatia's Colony World)

Space Union

The room was dim lit as a shadowy figure stood in the corner of the room staring out of a clear glass window. The face of the man was motionless and expressionless. All that stood was a stern, dark face with eyes that seemed like pools of oil. The figure gently stood up as he strolled over to his desk. On the desk was a manilla folder with the daily events for Governor Torin. The governor stared at the folder blankly before picking it up. He waved it as he opened it up and a white paper appeared it read:

To: Governor Torin,
Greater Union, Federate Republic of Space Union
From: Federate Harsimran Mann,
Federate Republic of Space Union
Subject: Border Security

The centeral command hearby declares that you shall increase the amount of border security patrols and men stationed in Corlin and Jeait Counties with the nation of Stevid. The colonial government of Stevid has expressed hostality at the colony of Greater Union, specifically what is known as the Corlin and Jeait colonies. The government seems to want that land for themselves. As you know, it is a vital location for the Greater Union colony, as it is a large trading center for the colony. We wouldn't want this hotline to be suddenly "snipped". For that reason, the Chamber of Electorates has deemed that Greater Union will receive an annual amount of $12 trillion each year for increased protection. Not only that, but the Chamber has set aside $210 billion worth of money for a speedy construction of the Miran Naval Base. If any more resources are required, contact me or my aids for further information. Thank You.

Signed,
President Harsimran Mann

Torin snickered. He knew that Harsimran wouldn't deliver meaningless information without intelligence reports from nearby colonies, locals, and such. But Torin had already received all this information. He threw the papers back into the manilla folder as he straightened his tie out.

Torin knew that the nation of Stevid was eyeing that piece of land. It was in dispute with the nation of Stevid, but Space Union would not yield to the demands that the Stevid would most likely put up, even if it meant war. But war, he knew, was a very remote chance. There were more strategic affairs in the air that Stevid would have to counter in order to fight Space Union. And with all these new fundings he would have enough money to have a more than effectively trained security patrols along with a large naval base. The Space Union Navy had already deployed its 2nd Naval Armada in the region, while the Space Union Army had deployed the 1st Theater to the colony to defend it, if the unlikely chance of war broke out.

Things were about to get interesting.

OOC: Anyone is open to post whatever they wish in this thread as long as they are a part of the Hogsweat's Colony World (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=453192). I hope to get some posts from my allies.

The Naval Commander stared out the window, unaware of his surroundings. This was Admiral Xeronis of the 1st Naval Armada. Xeronis stared with a blank face. All that revealed his moods was his smile and a slight chuckle, ever so often. He was waiting for someone. Someone important. The Governor of Greater Union, of course.

The Admiral walked away from the window and he pulled out his leather chair from his desk. He plopped himself down on it, exhausted from his thinking session. The last couple of months had been rigerous for him. He had been assigned to this new world after stepping down from his former command as a Rear Admiral. The Space Union Navy sent him here after that along with a promotion to Fleet Admiral, though, he just went by Admiral.

When he had arrived here he had much work to start off. The entire colony was seperated from the other Space Union colony as well as being bordered by Stevid, which had shown itself as hostile to the Union. So his job was short and simple: build a large naval complex near the city of Conexis and protect the colony from the hostility of Stevid. This job was no easy task. It had taken almost 5 months to build the entire complex, which was huge on its own. It was so huge that it could be seen from Conexis.

The Admiral rubbed his head but was interrupted as an aid stepped in. The aid nodded his head as the Admiral shot up from his seat and straightened his tie. The aid opened the door silently as a man stepped in. The Admiral could not forget this man, for it was Governor Torin. The Governor moved in quickly, as Xeronis ushered the aid outside. As the door closed, the Admiral pulled out his hand to shake with the Governor, "It is a pleasure to meet you, your Governist." The Governor immediately pulled his hand out, as he shaked the Admiral's hand. A smiled formed on the Governor's face, as he did so. The Admiral finally sat down back in his seat as the Governor did so. Before the Admiral could begin, the Governor spoke first, "I would like to ask if you could keep this progress report short, as I'm on a busy schedule today, if it isn't too much to ask." The Admiral inputed this as he mentally scrapped his long speech, "well then, I'll just cut to the chase." Xeronis paused for a second before continueing, "As you've instructed, we've completed the construction of the naval complex as fast as humanly possible. It is made sure that every inch of it has quality and sturdiness, as you requested. It is fully ready with the naval fleet already stationed there and logistics and compartments ready for the fleet of the nation or allies" The Admiral smiled as a face of awe came over the Governor. The governor opened his mouth, "Well, I find this news very good. I had expected you to finish this in 7months at earliest. But you've done it in a month faster. For that, I will be sending a promotion request to the Naval Command this week, if I might say." The Admiral's faced turned red with blushing and also in awe. "I thank you, sir. But it is not nessessary, I'm only doing my jo....." The governor immediately interrupted him, "No my friend, you are doing your job and more. That is a true work of a Supreme Admiral." All the Admiral could do was smile. He might thought to himself, "I might just reach my dream, afterall."

As the men went into an awkward silence, a man came into the room. He nodded to the Governor as he shut the door again. The governor knew the que, "Well my friend, it's been a pleasure to meet you, but I must now leave as I have much work to do with the Stevid nation bordering us." Xernosis noted the slight glint in the eyes of the governor. "Very well, it has also been a pleasure to meet the governor. I do not wish to delay your schedule," the Admiral said as the Governor left the room. The room was once more in silence but the Admiral was buzzing with thoughts inside.

Even internally, things were getting hot.

OOC: Hey nice thread. I'll post Stevid's situation later on in the day when i've got a few hours of fun.

Oh and by the way... 2nd Armada? Could have an estimated list of ships in the fleet please? If you haven't done, then make it realistic enough for everyone involved to agree.

cool?

Committee Room- Stevid Capita

The same smoky room was still the same as ever. Nothing had changes apart from the new bar at the far end of the room. But a side from that there were still the big leather armchairs arranged in a circle in the middle of the room. These chairs were now all occupied with men in their mid forties to their late sixties. The true men behind the country, the ones that man everything tick, The Wisemen, The Patriots, It was the Wisemans Committee.

They were all gathered around in their chairs each with a small drink in their hand, Conroy had made his love for Guiness well known and was holding a half-pint in his hand while the others, sticking more towards the tradition they like to keep, had a glass of Brandy or wine. Conroy had only just been enrolled into their ranks only a few months ago but was already enjoying his added role.

The mood was slightly solemn in the room as they were debating the new colonies they had claimed on a new continent that had been discovered.
“The past week has been a great one for Stevid!” Said PM Conroy “We all remember those glorious days when my father was in office, the old days of the Stevid Empire? Those days of a great and glorious commonwealth of nations that were strictly under our control.”
“Alas no longer as simple as that.” Said one of the other men. “The only whole nation that is left that is prospering is Adaptus Astrates and even they are more or less independent. No longer does this Committee interfere with their politics as much as we used to. This may be slightly different to the days where we had at least five nations under our belt.”
Many of the men murmured in agreement to which Conroy stepped in again.
“Agreed, it’s not quite the Empire we knew from the past, but it is a step up from our current commonwealth. The Empire has been resurrected from it’s dank grave of depression.”
“Yes but the New Province Colony on the new continent is now dangerously close to a local neighbour of Space Union. They’ve started an expansion that we aren’t comfortable with. Twice have they tried to claim an unclaimed territory that neighbours us. Fortunately the first one was claimed but they’ve managed to claim the one North of the colony. Strategically placed to attack us and the under water resources that used to be under our control are now almost out of our hands, we can’t be blamed for complaining.”
Conroy nodded “Yes, also in retaliation they have deployed their second Armada and their first army battalion. They think we are planning an attack or at least a coup of some sort to gain part of their colony.”
“WHY! We’ve got a three hundred-man garrison protecting our whole colony! We should be the ones who should be afraid.”
“Yes but strategically, that small colony country to the North of us is many, many, many miles away from the main colony of Space Union. If we were to invade, fight and occupy that small country claim, they would have to launch long-range air strikes to attack, which is a rather risky business. Also they would have to use their sea power, Stevid’s New Province Colony is strategically placed to enforce a blockade of that territory, we have the tactical advantage.”

The room went quiet as they contemplated the prospect of war before another man spoke, the Home Secretary who also happened to be a member of the Patriots.

“War seems inevitable sadly. Democracy will come first but war WILL follow. I’m sure of it. Space Union politics are full of stubborn bastards- they know diplomacy write down to the letter, they know every trick in the book. Politically through negotiations they will not back down and we will have to. This will lead to war, there’s no way we can break them.”
“What about the military, can’t we used that as a trump card?”
“Well they have a huge naval base in that new territory to the North and so that can be used against us. But we’ve also got a naval base in the lagoon, Aidmere Naval base is slightly smaller than the one they’ve got but it can take all of our Catholic Class Super Dreadnoughts and can take most of the fifth fleet.”
“The Fifth Fleet! The largest fleet Stevid has to offer? That’s a pretty big station.”
“Yes it was assembled as soon as our claims were made, rushed a bit here and there so construction is still going on in places but it is operational.”
“Does that mean we’ll be calling in the Fifth Fleet?”
“Don’t be stupid Prime Minister! You of all people know that the Fifth Fleet is to be used in truly dire cases of need. Such as World War, seeing as the Fifth Fleet as the capability to launch a full nuclear retaliatory strike, or close to home wars that rake Stevid in, such as the Holy Panooly Civil War.”
“That was years ago, my father was in office then!”
“I know that, so you understand that if we send the Fifth Fleet it will not only strike fear of such immense magnitude into Space Union, but it WILL provoke a war. No, no we shall send the eighth fleet to the New Province Colony. It’s got one Catholic Class Super Dreadnought which is usually enough to shut an annoying nation up. Yes, the eighth fleet.” The man downed his brandy as Conroy did his Guiness.

Conroy then spoke up in query.
“Diplomacy then?”
“Yes, Diplomacy. We are sending the 12th Armoured Infantry Battalion, it’s got a nice mix of tanks, planes and troops. This will also be another trump card.”
“Doesn’t the 12th Armoured Infantry Battalion got three of those walking Bipedal Tanks?”
“Yes, nuclear capable. Yes, that is how serious we are gentlemen. No other nation knows we have these tanks, I’m sure other nations have the same sort of thing, but the MkII’s we’re sending can deliver a six mega tonne Thermonuclear warhead into the heart of enemy territory without leaving the safety of it’s own deployment zone. But we are not going to use it… unless we have to. If it looks like we’re about to lose the negotiations then we’ll bring the tanks into the light for all to see. That’ll knock down a bit and buy us some time.”
“Nuclear war is out of a question!! Over colonies? It absurd!!”
“Hush Prime Minister. What will be done, will be done.”

The man got up and walked over to a panel on the wall and pushed a button.
“Tell Vice Admiral John Sasaki of the Eighth fleet and General Veers of the 12th Armoured Infantry Battalion to go to the Red Cabinet and look through File #012445, from there they are to take the necessary action required that the folder suggests we take.

Thank you.”

New Province Government House- Defence Committee- New Province Colony

The Royal Navy had arrived yesterday en-mass as did the Royal Fleet Auxiliary bringing with them tanks, troops, and aircraft as well as three huge containers that were whisked off to an undisclosed location. The cavalry had arrived and were ready to meet the foe that was just a couple of hundred kilometres South of the Government house. Space Union- a dictatorship. Ever since “democracy” returned to Stevid, the mutual political agreement Stevid had with Space Union had greatly deteriorated since both nations had now vastly different political ideas.

The Navy had arrived, the eighth fleet, days after the Space Union had arrived from their homeland, the Second Armada had also arrived on the scene. The defence committee assigned to the New Province Colony had already come to the theory that Space Union fleets were ranked in order of the most powerful fleets in their navy, coming swiftly to the conclusion that Space Union had deployed their second most powerful fleet against Stevid’s fifth powerful. The debate continued about raking in the First Fleet, being Stevid’s second most powerful and slightly larger than Space Unions current fleet.

“The 1st fleet would be here in five days and could crush their fleet like a bug and from there we could invade the whole of Space Union’s colonies and rule what was once theirs!” shouted one of the men gathered at a very large table.
At this remark one man at the head of the table stood up almost red faced.
“SIT DOWN JEFF! We are not doing anything radical, especially not bringing in the 1st fleet. That is an accident waiting to happen. Diplomacy is the thing we need to use here with the military as our trump cards.”
“I assume those massive containers contained the nuclear capable bipedal tanks?”
“Aye they did. We haven’t decide were to place the things yet but they have such a big range that inevitably other nation’s colonies will be seen under the range circle. This might be troublesome but remember that we aren’t hostile towards them.”
“If we’re being hostile at all.”
“We are, but not completely in a military sense. Just stick with it. As far as negotiations are concerned…well… they haven’t started, but they will and we’re not to disclose the position of those things until we need to.”
“Spy planes?”
“Can prove nothing, the things are in the containers. Anything could be in them. Don’t worry people, everything will work out fine.”

OOC: I’ll find a way to put a map together with the positions of the tanks by the time a “wheel” them out.

I've been tring to post up the map with the tank's nuclear range but the bastard of image shack says it's too big and photobucket just minimizes everything!!

That sucks. Photobucket never does that to me. You should reopen the file and then save it again in PNG. Then upload it. It worked for me once when I had the same problem.

Also I'll have an RP up soon. I was going to post one yesterday, but when I was typing it up, I pressed enter to start a new paragraph and my browser closed. I had like 3/4ths of it done, too  But anyways I'll get it up later. Also I have a small surprise that will be coming soon. :)

Xeronis stared at his file, scanning through it. It had all the usual information about the development of the colony. The colony had been growing at a fast rate as was the defenses. He flipped the page as he scanned the next to see if there was anything important. He lazily through it finally on the table as he leaned back in his red chair. It was a beautiful day, yet he was always doing all this paper work. Sometimes being Admiral was boring and tiring.

Suddenly, a noise rang out causing the Admiral to jolt up in a swift manner as if he was being attacked by enemy soldiers or a bomb had exploded on the deck of his ship. But it was just the phone ringing. The Admiral let out a sigh, "I'm going to have to fix that ring-tone" he thought to himself. He quickly picked the silver phone up as he put it up to his ear, "Hello, this is Admiral Xeronis." A loud but dull voice rang over the line. It was Captain Krooke. The Admiral sighed, "Yes, Captain Krooke." Krooke immediately jumped to his news, "Sir, we have some bad news. It seems that the enemy, Stevid, has deployed a large fleet to their colony." The Admiral's blood suddenly froze, "Was it going to be war?" he thought frantically to himself. But his blood thawed once more as he regained his posure. Krooke's voice once more rang over the line, "Sir, but the good news is, its not very large compared to the 2nd Naval Armada. It has around 100-150 ships within it. We have well over 500 ships in the 2nd Naval Armada." Although Xeronis didn't need reminding, he liked hearing the amount of ships in his fleet. It made him swell with joy, knowing that he was all-powerful to some extent. The Admiral finally spoke up on the line, "Well, then, I want intelligence gathered on this so called fleet. I want to know what its composed of, who are the sailors, and if there are more coming? Understand." There was a slight pause before Krooke replied, "I'll have the NIWAF on the job. They'll find out in a matter of days. Very well, then sir, I must part. Good bye." The line went dead as the Admiral put down his phone.

The Admiral thought to himself. He knew that this was a bad signal. If this was true, it might be possible they were gearing up for war with the Union. Considering that for the time being, the colony was cut away from the main colony, it wouldn't take long before the war would end with the favor of the nation of Stevid. But that would be for the time being, as the Xeronis wouldn't allow for that to happen. He would make sure that a war would never breakout on Space Union soil.

Xeronis calmly picked up his laptop as he accessed his line to the President. He had a note for him, that was urgent. It was time to show the true power of the Union.

To: Federate Harsimran Mann,
Federate Republic of Space Union
From: Admiral Xeronis,
2nd Naval Armada
Subject: URGENT: More Forces Needed!

I would like to greet you once more, my lord. It has been a long-time since we have spoken. It seems, though, that our beloved land in the east is under possible attack. The nation of Stevid has begun a military build up. This could seriously danger us and shift the geopolitical climate in the area into their favor. For that reason, we wish for you to send more aid. We wish to ask for the entire 1st Air Armada along with the 4th Theater to be sent to the area. We are in much need to ask for assistance but it is urgent. We must make sure that we show strength in this time of dire problems. The evil and corrupt nation of Stevid must be brought to justice through defense. May god bless us.

Signed,
Admiral Xeronis

Land Exchanged "Approved"!

By: Ayadi Accords

Cremshin, The Greater Union - Today in a historic move, officials from both Space Union and Manhattan Prime, a Woodstock Pact ally, have come to grounds have have "swapped" land in their colonies. The news came this morning after both nation's officials released the results of the meeting they had for the last week.

In this new deal, Space Union has ceded a chunk of its northwestern land to Manhattan Prime. This land also known as Uranium Heaven has some of the largest deposits of Uranium in the colony, only ranking behind 2 other larger deposits. Along with this deal, Space Union has given $10 trillion ($10,000,000,000,000) to the nation of Manhattan Prime as part of the deal. In return for the money, land, and resources, the government of the Manhattan Prime nation has given its southern, strategic tract of land to Space Union. This tract of land is one of the most wanted pieces of land by Space Union, as it connects two of Space Union's colonies. It also gives the main colony, The Greater Union, access to the Colony River, a vital strategic river.

Although, a large part of the deal was made to ensure that Space Union could connect to its colonies, it also has a military aspect to it. As relatiosn deteriote between Space Union and the government of Stevid, the Corlin Colony has been under great threat from the nation of Stevid. Before now, The Greater Union was not connected to Corlin resulting in the possiblity, if war broke out between Stevid and Space Union, that Corlin would easily fall to Stevid without help from the main colony. Now this threat is no longer a problem with this new deal.

According to the latest poll, 93% of the Space Union colonist fully agree with this new deal and 76% say that this makes them feel more secure and safer. Meanwhile, Space Union homeland citizens have a slightly lower 84% approval rating for the new deal while 63% says it will make their foreign possessions more secure. This poll has brought to you by Ayadi Accords, poll division.

Attention prospective interest. We have opened our ports to inter-colonial trade relations.

What can we offer? This desolate meager island does not look much, but it has a substantial mineral reserve under it's frozen crust. There is literally billions of tons of minerals, of all kinds waiting to be mined. We will not say that it is all availible to us, but we are able to produce enough for outsourcing.

Care to help our meager colony? With small loans, or gifts, you can help us expand our mining capabilities. The more machines we have, the more minerals we can produce. The more minerals we can produce, the more we can trade away. The more we can trade away, the more you are able to recieve. We can garantee that all money loaned to us will be repaid in full, and much much more due to either money made by trading, or the minerals themselves.

For an additional fee, we can smelt the minerals into the proper metals. Steel, titanium, and even some plastic-metal mixes can be created by us. If you wish to learn more information, please contact our Forign relations minister.

For an even greater fee, we can create the exact parts you need. With enough funding and resources, we can build an entire navy, given enough time.

Please consider this for your future interests. We are but a small colony, of a little over five million civilians, on a desolate rock. We may be small, but we can provide the metals you need for your day to day life.

A communication was sent very quickly after recieving the message.

To say the least, we are astonished on the amount of money you are willing to put upfront for us. That is way over what we would make in five years. We gladly accept this loan, and see you as valuable business partners and allies.

Your loan shall be repaid in full over time, with two trillion, we will be able to tripple, no quadruple our production.

General Waygand sat at his desk inside the re-enforced bunker of the Government House in the New Province Colony observing the new maps he had just received. He sat there contemplating the news that Space Union had now deployed a large air force to the continent in an attempt to get the upper hand in this “Cold War” between Stevid and Space Union.

A formal request for political pressure and aid had gone out to two nations at the most and the Super Dreadnought and the rest of the 8th fleet had arrived and taken up positions in the lagoon and in the newly named “South Stevid Sea”. It had been a tense few days for both nations but Stevid seemed to have slipped slightly.
The news that two neutral nations had been “bribed” to let Space Union access to more territory had been a severe blow to the colony, the Space Union colonies had been spread out a bit and were not part of the connected Empire of Space Union, now however things had changed. The Space Union Territory had now increased by a third and the colonies were now connected to each other, strategically helping Space Union and wounding Stevid.

The fact that Stevid could launch a bombing run on the Southern Space Union colony and return to base before SU reinforcements arrived was now out of the window. The New Province Colony was a key part of Stevid, but Space Union seemed to have more devotion to their colony than Stevid did to theirs, the Government just didn’t want to provoke something and so only the 8th fleet had been deployed.

“But Space Union wasn’t out of the woods yet.” Thought Waygand, Space Union surveillance seemed to be proving in sufficient as they as yet had know idea what lay inside the massive steel containers that had been shipped in and strategically placed throughout the New Province Colony. No one could deny the fact that both nations had been spy on the other, but the containers were nothing special, in fact even some of Stevid’s top officials had no idea what was in them. General Waygand did however.

Little under a week ago did the Stevid Government order that Stevid would secretly deploy the three brand new Bipedal Tanks with Nuclear tipped warheads. These tanks were part of the best state of the art technology the world had ever seen. Tanks that could effectively walk through almost any terrain and remain stable enough to launch a thermal nuclear missile anywhere within its range. The things were massive and stood as tall as a five story building, it had anti- troop capabilities and also specialised in it’s anti-tank and building abilities. Truly a monster that the government had always been reluctant to bring in…. until this day.

The tanks had been deployed into a position but remained inside their containers but stood ready to be brought online and bring their weapons to bear. Not only that but the HMS Cardinal, the Catholic Class Super Dreadnought, was deployed in the South Stevid Sea and had immense range with its nuclear missiles and it’s conventional missiles. Stevid, as far as the General was concerned, had the advantage when it came to weaponry. Stevid had two trump cards, the four aces in his opinion. He looked down at the map again.....

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y227/Stevid/Nuclearrange.gif

.....and smiled. These maps would only be disclosed if Space Union were to ever make a move that were warranted for these maps to be brought into the light.

The room was dimmed to a cozy setting as the men in the room got anxious. It was an important meeting that would most likely shape the policy of the Greater Union from here on in. One of the delegates, Mark Shinser, stared dazzly at the portraits of the governor. He thought to himself, "What a royal-ass in the hole." But his thoughts were cut-off as the Governor stormed into the room through the double-doored, oaken doors. His face was tense and in sweat. The members swiftly sat into their seats, as Torin made his way to his desk. He pulled his chair down and plopped himself lazily on the chair. The room quieted for a couple of brief seconds as the only noise was the sound of breathing from the delegates. Even that was making the room more tense. Finally the Governor broke the silence.

"Welcome everyone to the Greater Union colony. It is an honor to have you all here. It truely is." the governor spoke out with a slight smirk of defiance in his eyes and on his face. A slight murmur came out but swiftly ended. The governor saw it fit to start the meeting then, "Well, ladies and gentleman, I must say this has to be some of the most tense times in our lives...... It seems the nation of Stevid is trying to undermine us with their treachours actions of defiance and aggression. Their dictatorship of a government that they preclaim as a democracy is nothing more than a scam that is trying to take our land." The governor paused to let the words sink into the crowd. Some of his words were stretched but he didn't care. "In this moment of darkness, we have shed some light on their intentions. Behold!" He picked up a manilla folder and took some glossy papers out. He passed them around. On them was a picture. Some of the members gasped. It was survelliance from Space Union satellites showing strange containers near the fleet of the enemy. "As you can see in red, the containers are the ones that worry me. It seems they hold something that the enemy doesn't want us to know. Our officers have determined they are not supply or cargo containers as they haven't been touched since arrival and are trying to be hid from us." Torin paused as he finished his statement, "This leads us to believe, they must have weapons inside these that are not regular types. They are obviously trying to keep this secret from the world. Whatever lays in those containers are nothing less than a threat to our security." The delgates began murmuring and shaking in acceptance of the notion. Torin smirked, everything was going as he wanted it. "That brings me to this conclusion, we must step up our defenses and get more funding from the Chamber for the colony in order to support it..... I'm looking in the range of between $1-3 trillion in increase over 5 years." The members gasped, the amount going to the colony was already enough and more was seeming a lot.

Silently, Torin went over to a frame as his back turned on the delegates. "As you all know, I have the colony's security at heart only, my friends." He emphasised "my friends". "If this is done, security will once more return to the colony and I'm confident that the nation of Stevid will back down. Once that happens, our security needs will decrease as will our need for finances from the national government. Its a win-win situation." The delegates listened contently to the governor. He was right, if the colony survived, it would reap big rewards in the shape of economic and resource booms. The colony was a paradise for companies and resources that it had in bundles. Along with that, the colony controlled a vital position in the new landmass of all the nation. This would mean more political power for the government.

The delegates spoke to each other as Torin waited for a reply. Finally, the leader of the delegates, Mark Shinser, stood up with a reply, "Very well, your governist, we will have the Chamber support a bill for increased funding for the colony of the Greater Union." A sly smile came over Torin as he reaped in victory but his thoughts were cut short by Mark, "But on one condition: you will support a diplomatic meeting with the delegates from Stevid and resolve the matter before any new funding comes to you." The smile on the governor's face was quickly smacked off as fury erupted on Torin's face but he wouldn't show it and risk political embarrasement. So he did what he knew..... he caved in. "Very well, sir, we will arrange for a diplomatic meeting with Stevid and resolve this issue peacefully....first. But you must realize they probably won't come seeing as they are run by politcally greedy, retarded bastards that don't know 2+2. They are aggressive peace of filth that don't deserve to live." He added this statement with a tone of hatred in his voice and venom. Mark smiled, "That does not concern me or the other delegates. We want results is all we care for." Mark bowed as did the governor, as the delegates filed out single-file. Mark inwardly laughed for he knew he had the governor where he wanted. He would make sure the diplomatic meetings succeeded so that the colony was faced with no security threats. Once the security threat was gone, the Chamber had no reason to increase funding for the colony. Mark knew that the governor also knew this, but he couldn't do anything about this without political backlash and in a poor situation. It had succeeded.

Gently, one of Torin's aides closed the door. Torin stared out the window and at the Colony River with hatred. It seemed that delegate by the name Mark was entering a game of chess with the governor. He would learn to stay in his place, though. He began laughing. Greater Union would become a better world to live in once he unveiled his true intentions and what really was occuring at the so called Naval Complex.

To: The Empire of Stevid
From: Governor Torin,
The Greater Union, Federalist Republic of Space Union
Subject: Diplomatic Meeting over Relations

We would like to extend an envoy for the leaders of the nation of Stevid to come to the colony of the Greater Union. As you know, our relations have continued to deteriote at an alarming rate. For that reason, we fear that hostilities may break out and casualties may mount of both sides. As you probably know also, we are at odds on many situations and are in a hidden cold war-type scenario. For that reason(s), we wish to invite you to the capital, Shakti. Here we will have our meetings, and hopefully solve our problems and strengthen our extremely fragile relations. It would be a shame to see our two great nations go at an all out war. We hope you make the right decision and accept this. Thank You.

The Defence Staff and the Governor of the New Province Colony, Gvr. Lordly, were sitting around the circular table in the conference room at the Government House. The message received from across the lagoon was one of peace which was what all of them wanted.

The Governor spoke up after reading the message.
“A sure sign that our “friends” from across the pond want peace. They want us and themselves to attend some sort of delegation that will hopefully end all of this peacefully. I can not stress the importance of this meeting, the Stevid Government back at Stevid do not wish us to go to war.”
“Understood, we also need to do this quickly.” Said one of the attendants at the table. “I’m pretty sure that Space Union military officials are getting worried about the Bipedal Tank containers. They pose no threat and they can prove nothing… but none the less, they are definitely twitchy.”
“So it’s agreed, we will attend the delegation and try and resolve this.”
“But if it does come to war?”
“There is a high degree of possibility that we would win but sustain a high death figure- both sides are willing to use WMD’s to gain the advantage.”
“But as far as WMD are concerned we have the advantage of being more flexible. We have the massive range of the Catholic Class SDN and we have the three Bipedal Tanks that can fire nukes from almost any terrain.”
“That won’t stop SU in the negotiations, they know the full range of the missiles of the Catholic Class SDN- the whole world knows- it’s the Bipedal tanks that will scare the living shite out of them. Their worried already about containers their in- just imagine their faces when we unveil them.”

A few of the members of the table started to grin at this remark before settling down again.
“Then it is settled then- we shall attend under a flag of truce. DISMISSED!”

Delegates of the New Province Colony Government House have decided unanimously to attend peaceful negotiations that you brought before us.

Torin stared into the "Official Reply" from the colony of Stevid. It had aggitated him considerably. His hands grasped the piece of paper tightly, almost tearing it apart, but he remained calm. He let out a deep sigh. He knew they had just triggered another way to stop funding for the colony, knowingly or unknowingly. Yet that didn't matter, as the reactions would be the same. "Its all that Mark guys fault!", the governor thought venomely.

Inside he knew that he couldn't get involved. Although he was rash, he cared more about the people then his own rash thoughts. He would go along with this but he knew that these talks would fail, though, secretly he didn't want them to. His internal feelings acted as if they were in a bitter war, trapped in a prolonged battle to gain control of him. Torin swallowed quietly at the disturbing thought. Finally he shrugged it off, and laid his hand gently on the polished desk. He thought to himself that he would go to at all ends to make sure that these talks would prove valuable. He would make sure of that.

To: Stevid
From: Governor Torin,
The Greater Union, Federative Republic of Space Union
Subject: Diplomatic Meeting

I on behalf of the entire colony am pleased to hear that you have decided to attend our little meeting. This meeting will break new grounds between our great nations. It will solidify the ground and make sure our leaders and citizens rest pleasantly at night without fear of hostility. We hope this feeling is mutual.

The meeting will take place in Shakti, our colony's capital. It will take place in my office, with only us and our aides. We will be free of reporters and new media's in our private talks. We hope you find this acceptable. We will your ride arrive in Shakti International Airport. We hope this is also acceptable. During our meeting we will have lunch before proceeding to get to our talks. After our talks, we will be able to eat dinner and then retire to our rooms. This meeting will last for 3 days, if you wish.

We hope all this is acceptable to you. We can't wait till your visit here. I hope god blesses both of our nations in order to establish a more "happy" relationship.

Signed,
Governor Torin

The medium sized private jet was skimming just above the white fluffy clouds of midday as they crossed the lagoon separating the two colonies of Stevid and Space Union. James Clerk, one of the seven diplomats, looked out of the window down onto the cloud. He was bored stiff and annoyed at sitting in this less than comfy ride on this less than comfy plane and longed to see the world pass below him.
At which the clouds almost seemed to separate at his thought and below he saw the waters beneath and just to his right lay Space Union’s own colony. Never had those waters been so hostile and James vowed there and then that he would do his best not let Stevid and Space Union turn on each other.

The plane entered Space Union airspace; two Stevid RAF F3-Tornadoes were escorting the private jet into the airspace. The two planes were far from being hostile to anyone and did not break off when they entered into Space Union airspace after all they were expected.
Apart from the normal, legal, air talk being transferred to and from all the aircraft involved, it was a quiet flight.

The tornado escorts banked off on the private jet’s final approach to the SU colony’s capital airport before coming about and landing on a separate run way.
The private plane came to a halt where there were a few cars and a few people were gathered. The captain locked on the brakes and grabbed the intercom.

“Ladies and gentlemen may I welcome all those on board to colony of Space Union. We are guests here and the people and cars outside will meet to all those going to the meetings to avoid conflict between the two nation’s colonies. Just some general info here for you- we’re at the capitals main international airport and the temperature outside is ten degrees…. I hope you all had a pleasant flight.”
“Shut Up You Arsehole!!!! Just Hurry And Open The Fucking Door!!” yelled one of the delegates who seemed to have lost an awful lot colour in the face.
The door opened and the stairs spilled out neatly where four Royal Marine walked out and lined a way out of the plane as the delegate closely followed and approached the awaiting people and cars.

James was hoping that the next few days would be less stressful than he was expecting them to be. But he was sure that Space Union would fight a diplomatic war with everything at their disposal.

Governor Torin watched as the white plane's door opened up on the runway. He stood like a stone statue, watching the door open slowly, inching its way to the ground. Torin began sweating from the anticipations. He knew that he would have to make a good first impression on the officials if he wanted to talks to succeed. But that was the least of his problems. His stone face suddenly shifted into a heart-warming smile as he beamed at the officials. He could tell they didn't have a splendid ride, as one guy looked like he had lived in the arctic from the color of his skin at that moment. The governor stepped back in precausion, just in case.

As the Stevid officials unboarded the craft, Torin reached out with his hand to shake the leader of the group, "Welcome, my friends to the Greater Union colony. We are splendid that you have arrived to further presue and deepen relations between our nations." Torin stepped foward to look at the man, he seemed to be in his middle-ages, though with all the new advances in age appearence, he wouldn't know.

This would be a great day, indeed.

Airport (Past)

All the delegates shook hands with the people awaiting them apart from one delegate, who was busy being ill by the side of the plane steps and he vomited out his midday flight meal.
The cars were extremely posh and the delegates soon began to realise that they were more important than they thought.
Apart from the odd chatter amongst themselves and a bit of small talk between the delegates and the drivers the journey was quiet and rather uneventful before pulling up to the building were the talks were being held.
Outside stood the press of hundreds of nations, many being those from the nations who had colonies in the local region, asking them questions and taking photo’s as everyone got out of their cars and approached the doors of the building.

Present

“They’re like herds of vultures those press people!” explained a delegate loudly as they were waiting in the lobby.
“With all due respect sir,” said one Royal Marine who was with them in reply. “Vultures don’t herd, they flock and well….err…. it was a good metaphor sir.”
The delegate threw a dirty look of disgust at the solider before continuing . “Yeess….okay corporal you’ve made your point. If your going to make yourself useful by standing there then at least tell me how long all of us are to sit here?”
“Five seconds sir.” Replied the solider as he pointed out a man and a woman appearing from the door beckoning them into a conference room of some sort.

The large group entered the room, two marines waited outside the door while the other two entered the room and took positions just inside the doorframe. The room was large and had a polo mint shaped table in the middle of the room surrounded by wooden chairs lined with red velvet. The delegates sat themselves down at the table where also there were rather a few Space Union representatives seated as well.

All the delegates of Stevid sat down and pulled at papers and document folders out of their briefcases before settling down. James Clerk looked around the table seeing many worried faces and few brave faces on both sides. He tried fiercely to put on a brave face as he stood up before the table.

He cleared his throat quietly.
“Um… Good afternoon to everyone here. Um… I’m James Clerk- diplomatic delegate represent the Imperial and Commonwealth Office of the Holy Empire of Stevid. We all know why we are here…. Well… to a certain degree. So if I may be so bold as the present myself and the rest of the Stevid Delegation to Space Union.”

He paused slightly and contemplated his next words as he began to get slightly hot under the collar.
“Err…. Since the honourable hosts of Space Union invited us here, I see it as only polite to allow Space Union to approach the table first in these negotiations and bring to the table and to the delegates their views on the current situation and current state of affairs between our two nation which they would like to discuss.”

He bowed slightly and sat down again and took a sip of water from a small glass that had been placed there on the table before they had entered. He downed the whole lot in one and looked down at the empty glass which was shaking in his had.
How could he be this nervous? Surely these talks weren’t as desperate as the first thought?

He discarded the thought and forced himself to stay clam, and leaned over to a friendly delegate that he sat with on the plane.

“I could murder in cold blood for a malt whiskey right about now.” He whispered with a smile on his face.

Torin's eye's smirked with a gleam of satisfactory as his oil black eyes slowly went to the main delegate's face. He could see the man was in nervous and unsure. Torin loved doing this to politicians, watching them wiggle in their place. Finally, Torin spoke up, "I thank you, sir. We would be honored to start this meeting off. But before we do, would you be interested in a drink?" Torin asked in a slyish way. He wasn't going to do anything but he knew it would make the guy more nervous and sweaty. Perfect condition for negotiations.

A waiter stepped into the room, pushing the oaken door open and brought in a couple of glasses. He handed them to the delegates and to Torin and his advisors. As everyone sipped their drink, Torin spoke aloud, "Before we do begin the proper meeting, I would like to introduce my advisors." The three men at the table got up and stood straight as they introduced themselves. A man in a black suit began, "I'm the Colonial Minister of Foreign Affairs, Pero Comash" the man repeated as he sat back down in his chair before the next man spoke, "I'm the Colonial Minister of Military Affairs, Teri Limber", the well-built man stood their eyeing the delegates' suspiciously. He snuffed as he took his seat as the final minister introduced himself, "I'm the Colonial Minister of Internal Affairs, Swatch Columbas",the man said as he bowed and sat down.

Finally as everyone finished giving glances to each other, Torin got back up, "Well, let's begin." He immediately shuffled through his brown, leather briefcase and pulled out a manilla folder. He gently opened the folder as he moved his hand toward the paper and pulled it out and put the folder straight back in the briefcase. "I think we should skip the formality and just begin, don't you say?" He could see the Stevid delegates nod in approval. He smiled in glory, "Well then, as you know our nation's have shared a "icy" relationship at the best. We have come to the point, I honestly believe, that both sides are willing to go to war." The word "war" struck a tone in the room as everyone went silent and as murmurs died. He liked it so he continued, "As the Governor of the Greater Union, it is my job to ensure that peace continues, and therefore I've invited you men here to discuss this "problem". Let's start with our militaries. As you can probably see from our intelligence reports and your intelligence reports, that both nation's are building up tremendously in terms of military and hostile forces." He paused as he swallowed in his throat before continuing again from the interruption, "I think it is best to negotiate the problem here. I believe that both nation's feel threatened in our colonial world and therefore are acting in defense by wanting to put up more defenses. This has resulted in a near miniture cold war, if I may say." Torin added the last statement with a sting in his voice as he calmly stared at the near blank faces of the other delegates. "I think it is best to begin this by then discussing a military disarmenant and decrease in the area. This can only be done by making peace." He paused as he let his words sink in and let the delegates ready for his proposal, "That is why I believe it is nessessary that we establish a Demilitarized Zone between our borders as our first act of this conference. Do you agree?"

The conference was about to go hot.

…The delegates of Stevid murmured amongst themselves for one or two minutes in silent whispers.

“He brings forward the fact that a de-militarised zone would benefit us both. I say yes, the prospect of invasion for both sides therefore is almost eliminated.”
“But the risk if attack isn’t my friend,” said another “It will just increase tension, the knowledge of why that massive, mined and booby trapped open field will forever serve as a reminder that we are engaged in a cold war with Space Union.”

All that heard this pondered the thought for a minute.
“We still have the Catholic Class Super Dreadnought… that alone is a deterrent to Space Union to start a war with us.” One explained. “Also we have the,” he coughed in a way to pretend he was clearing his throat. It was a very believable fake cough and the delegates of Stevid knew what he meant by this.
“Yes we do still have those at our disposal. Okay then- lets push forward then.”

The delegates stopped talking for that brief moment in time before James stood up. He had rejected the drink the hosts had offered him- he was not going to be intoxicated, not just even a little bit, not today. He was a lot calmer now and was now breathing steadily and hadn’t touched the glass of water since he last sat down.

“As representatives of His Majesty’s Government of Stevid, we accept the terms of a de-militarised zone between our two nations borders. We should allow the space of the neutral zone to be at least five miles of zone that separates both nations. I suppose if any civilians want to cross the border can do so at checkpoints at both ends of the neutral zone between our two nations.
“Also in the interests of the Geneva Convention and the respect for human life and natural life, we imply that NEITHER side mine the neutral zone or lay down anti-tank mines or barbed wire. I’m sure this we’ll both agree on… I hope.”

James bowed ever so slightly, but still noticeable, before returning to his seat before awaiting Space Unions reply.

Torin listened contently as he heard the delegates murmur to themselves quite enjoyably. He was enjoying this meeting in all ways, nonetheless. It seemed as if things were going his way. Finally the delegate of Stevid agreed. A smile curled up on Torin's face as he celebrated his first success. "I thank you for your cooperation on this and yes, as Space Union is a staunch follower of the Geneva Convention and human rights, we shall agree with your terms. This is the first stone in a long road in establishing a permenant peace between our two nations. I so believe." repeated the Governor.

Gently, Torin nudged Limber and said in a quiet whisper/murmur, "it seems as everything is going as planned. We have a demilitarized zone now setup between our nations. This should ensure peace between our nation's for now." Teri leaned over to Torin and murmured in his ear, "but how can we trust them? They could secretly be plotting to use this to build up against us?". A grin crossed the face of Torin, "don't worry we have the Couragous-Class Super Dreadnaught." Finally Torin got up and said aloud, "I think as we've had the honor of starting the meeting, Stevid should put up the next proposal. Do you not agree?". Torin silently sat down in anticipation of what the Stevidians would say.

IC:

One of the Stevid delegates stood up and opened his briefcase out on the table withdrawing a PVC folder containing a few large satellite photographs of what looked like, at first glance, a large naval port.
He pushed the folder across the table towards the delegates of Space Union upon where they opened up the folder and looked at the pictures.
“I’m sure you are ALL familiar with what you are seeing.” Said the Stevidian delegate. “For those who don’t know, on those pictures are satellite shots of this massive naval yard that Space Union are constructing. This naval yard is one of the biggest we’ve ever seen- it can even be seen from space. It is being built in the large lagoon that sits to the North of the New Province Colony and to the East of Space Union’s furthest colony to the East. This seem problematic to both are nations for two reasons. First reason:
Seeing as you are building this port in a large lagoon, it looks logical, however Space Union has built a port that is three times bigger than needed for the naval fleet that they have deployed to the area and the narrow “canal” ,as it were, leading into the continent will struggle the hold any fleet wishing to pass through it. Strategically, it is misplaced.
Second reason is that since it is draining Space Union resources, money wise, to build this port- we can easily see that construct work to further extend this port continues and yet it can now hold a phenomenal number of vessels in, strategically, the wrong place. Why is this? We can also see large areas covered over so that satellites can’t see through it. Again why is this? Let there be no secrets here my friends- this expansion of this port will not go un-noticed.
Stevid proposes that in the interests of international relations to continue between our two nations, that continuation of construction on the port, should be discontinued.
That is our proposal which I can greatly stress- is not unreasonable. We await your answer dear Sirs.”
And with his speech finished, sat down again with a face that shined with hope and victory. A smile spread across his face and he whispered to the man next to him.
“I can wait to hear their answer to those two questions.”
The man next to him nodded. “They’ll lie to you, you know.”
“I know they will- I just want to hear how absurd it is. But on the other hand they may deliberately tell the truth to make me think that they are lying.”
“What will you do then sir?”
“I’ll know they’re lying. I used to work for MI5- I was trained to know when the enemy is lying under pressure or not under pressure. This is no different to an interrogation- apart from the absence of recording equipment.”
One of his fellow delegates over heard this and cleared his throat loudly enough to be heard and then raised and lowered his eyebrows twice.
All three of them chuckled together.

Torin stared at the picture. He knew that he would be asked about it but he was ready. He wasn't a retired Space Union Officer for nothing. A smile spread over his face in defiance, "Yes, we are building a naval base in the area. But it is quite strategically placed. It is designed to house one of our Naval Armadas. Also I believe you have the wrong map," He pulled out a map

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y76/Blackbird-SR-71/hwmap2.png

"That blue spot is the naval base. As you can see it is placed in a 'correct' location." Torin paused for a second. He could see the Stevidians were murmuring but he ignored it, "You refer also to our covers. Although, we are 'friends', I don't think it is wise to reveal all our aces no matter what. It isn't that we don't trust you its more that we are so new to each other, that it might compromise our security. We assure you, though, it will not affect your colony's security either." Torin just smiled as he waited for the response of his collegues.

Another Delegate of Stevid stood up now by the name of George Montgomery with a large smile on his face.
“A very believable story my friend, a very believable story.” He put so much stress on “Believable” that it was clear that he didn’t believe a word that was told to him nor did any of his colleges. “But my government will be most disappointed that you won’t tell us what is cover those covers. But alas there is nothing we can do. Besides, a nation is entitled to some secrets- the same goes for Stevid as it does to Space Union.” He paused and quickly skimmed over some papers that he had laid on the table in front of him.
“Umm… just a tad more on your naval base. You say that it is there to serve as a station for an entire fleet. We don’t debate that at all- on the contrary we agree with you that it is for an entire fleet. We both know that saying that it is for commercial used would be pretty stupid. But why an entire fleet? And why in such a closed space such as the lagoon? Fleet manoeuvres are not easy to achieve in such a small space, and just looking at the total number of ships you’ve sent to defend to colony it will be a bugger to get them through the narrow water way and get them docked into your port in little over a month. Rather time consuming don’t you think?”

A large broad smile spread across his face, the Stevid delegates also had smaller smiles on their faces, they were on the offensive now.

“Not including logistic support- no- just the actual military naval vessels trying to get into the naval port- yes just little over a month! Your naval port is more than capable to take logistic vessels but when it does it will all be over the news about the biggest traffic jam in the history of every navy in the world. Might that be just a tad bit embarrassing for your admiralty? Well if one were to halt construction of the naval base then you may not need face world criticism or the environment protestors over the amount of emissions around the naval port.” He paused for a minute for a sip of water and a few seconds to think of what to say next.

“Stevid is slightly afraid of the size of this fleet and the proximity of it to the north of the New Province Colony. The fleet will be within striking distance of the colony, and the size of the naval port allows yet another fleet, small mind you but a fleet none the less, into the port but with out logistic support. The Stevid government is now becoming concern that the colony is now directly under threat of invasion or missile attack. In the interests of military disarmament and good will, we bring OUR terms once again towards the Space Union delegation. We ask that the Space Union government halt construction of the naval port- and if possible dismantling parts of it. Halting construction is the paramount one and we intend to at least see that one through. Dismantling the port is not essential and it is your choice whether to agree with this or not.

We await your decision sir…”

He sat down and downed the rest of his drink.

Torin smiled on the outside from the barrage of complaints but was furious on the outside. He would end this here.

"Ah, yes I understand your fears for this base, as we would too if we were in your position. But I assure you that the base is entirely defensive from any threat that may pose itself against the well being of the Greater Union. Please understand that this was not built to threaten you as an offensive base for our military operations but as a way to scare off any nation that might try to "attack" us."

Torin paused for a second. These people wouldn't be satisfied but he really didn't care. So he just continued,

"I will guarentee you that our naval fleet can be housed in this area without causing problems. Our naval engineers have made calculations that allow our fleet to be able to do what its job must require, and not disturb any flow of commerce or trade that occurs. As for the problem of a traffic jam, we assure you that the fleet would be able to leave if nessessary without much problem. We have an entire plan, and a second thing is that this fleet is not intended to even be offensive in nature but to protect our and our neighbors waters from enemy vessals."

A broad smile flattened over Torin's face as he eyed the Stevidians. It was time to go on the offensive against the Stevidians.

"As I've answered your questions, I think I need to ask you a couple of questions."

He pulled out a map and satellite images.

"As you can see, our reconnisance satellites have found rather "interesting" objects at your naval port. It seems that you have containers that are oddily fashioned. They seemed to be guarded more than the other containers along with the fact they haven't been moved since their arrival, unlike if they had been mere cargo containers. This brings up questions for the Military high-command, asking what is in there? It must be top-secret as it seems to have a high-profile security around it."

He could see that the Stevidians faces had changed from broad, mocking smiles to pale, questionable faces that showed a sign of nervousness. He had them right were he wanted them and he wasn't going to let go.
