Greetings from The Grand Duchy of Elyria-Lorain!

We are a fairly new nation, created out of the chaos and anarchy that followed the collapse of the Black Luthien/Acamar Prime/Verboten Lufftewaffe Confederacy. We are actually three nations ruling our region as one. Our government is classed as a constitutional tetrarchy. The other two nations are Alsace-Lorain and St. Germain-Lorain. We share a common capitol, and have two senators and one tribune in each of the individual nations.

We as a region are seeking full allies. Simple ambassadorial/embassy contacts will be sought later.

Our main strength is agricultural, with hundreds of thousands of square miles currently under production with grains, fruit, and livestock. Our manufacturing capabilities are at present limited, but growing. We have mineral and precious stone mines, as well as a super abundance of oil and natural gas. Refineries are being built to process these raw materials.

Our military is at present limited to approximately 10,000 Royal Guard, 4 naval vessals, 2 squadrons of aircraft, and 40 tanks. Our constitution requires all able-bodied citizens age 16-70 years to carry personal sidearms at all times and attend regular military training four times each year. This gives us a militia-based Home-Defense system.

We are seeking full allies at this time simply because we are in need of help in the manufacturing and military sectors. We are prepared to exchange what we have for nations willing to establish bases on our out-lying islands and who may be willing to build industrial facilities on our coast lines. We have many fine harbors and bays where thoughtful and environmentally sound factories could be located.

At present, we have three facilities available for potential allies to move into. Each of these, and all subsequent facilities, consist of a 1/2 to 1 acre parcel of land with a main office building and a smaller security building. Foreign personnel will be limited to an ambassador/manager, five staff, and ten security guards. One un-armed vehicle is also permitted.

We are a new nation, with very limited military resources. Those resources must remain in our own country for our own protection. We are pursuing an aggressive military agenda which will hopefully triple our military might each year.

As stated above, we are well stocked in agricultural goods. We need machinery/technology that will enable us to rapidly build up our own manufacturing base.

All Full Status Allied nations are entitled to a military base on one of our out-lying islands. Our overall climate is similar to that of Hawaii or New Zealand, with the exception of the mountainous areas which have a generally milder climate.

I am not quite sure what you mean by "neighborhoods that aren't so good". In our nation, we have full employment. There is, therefore, no welfare system for those who can't/don't/won't work. For those who are disabled and can't work, we have a system of provincial aid provided by those who live in the affected person's area. Our own help each other.
Our nation is a very proud one, one that prides itself on hard work and highly moral ethics. Our neighborhoods, both large and small, are crime-free, clean, and contain the highest degree of technological comforts currently available.

As to your request that our MASH Units aid only those citizens who agree to rescind their involvement in the cause of their choice, we cannot in good conscience refuse medical aid to those who need it. Our doctors are pledged by their Hippocratic Oath to provide medical help to any and all who require it, regardless of their political affiliation. Quite frankly, I find your request repulsive. I therefore consider your nation to be unfit for alliance with Elyria-Lorain, and decide at this time that no further consideration will be given to this matter.

A couple of notes: the main land-mass of Elyria-Lorain is not now, nor will ever be, available for purchase. We have numerous islands off of our coast that we are more than willing to give for developement of natural resources. We are gratified that you have the similar concern for the environment as we do.

Also, we do hope someday to develope FT. At this time, our fledgling nation is not yet at the point of considering this. We would, however, consider an FT nation such as yours a valuable asset in providing protection against other FT nations that might have hostile intentions against us.

Exotic foods are not a regular part of the Elyrian diet. We are fairly simple folk, "meat and potatoes" as it were. However, we would be interested in aquiring foods that we do not produce for distribution to nations who are allied to us and who would like a little taste of home.

We have not, up to this point, exported our citizens to other nations for any reason other than diplomatic contact. We are primarily agricultural in nature, AKA farmers, botanists, horticulturalists, etc. If you are in need of these skills, perhaps we can accomodate you.

We have no problems with this arrangement, though for the port, we would propose an island close to the coast to allow for easy freight, transport to the mainland and the opportunity, should you decide to, to implement on the proposed energy supplies. While the alliance we envision would not include military protection as an article, we are sure that our presence would provide some degree of deterrent against aggression, as well as allowing you assistance with such technological development in the future.

As you do not appear to have an existing industry in exotic foodstuffs, perhaps you would be interested in establishing vineyards, as wines of various types, especially ice wines (generally produced in colder, mountainous regions) are extremely popular both in our own nation and in those of our closest ally. This, and similar, crops, are generally guaranteed a place in our own markets.

While agencies sourcing overseas labour generally provide full training in any task that is reasonably expected of such workers, we are certain there are roles for agricultural experts in our own farming industry, often supervising other workers from other nations, we also suspect that there are roles for horticulturalists both in public gardening works and in private establishments.

While we have no problem with Habardia ( we are recently allied to them ), we are concerned about what other nations you may be dealing with who may not be friendly to Elyria-Lorain and it's allies. For instance, we plan to use the land you have so generously set aside for us as a "vacation/getaway" for citizens who have provided service to our nation above and beyond the call of duty. Our specific concern is a potentially hostile neighbor who may be using the donated land as a military base/camp, or an industrial sector.

We are not clear as to why the province of Honu has risen in rebellion, but your military response to that rebellion is disturbing.

You admit that Honu is among the poorest of provinces, yet you have not shown any effort in opening talks with the citizens of that province to find out their grievences, and then provide answers. We are aware that you have the right to defend yourselves, but you have the duty to serve and protect your citizens also.

First may I stress to you that Bynzekistan is a peaceful nation, interested only in forming ties of goodwill with similarly-minded nations. With that in mind, Bynzekistan never enters into an agreement, ambassadorial or otherwise, without the strongest assurance that there are nothing but peaceful intentions. With regard to our choice of ambassador, I understand your reservations about Alor Emonil. At the age of 407, Emonil is considered to be young, though he has several hundred years of world wisdom to his name. I also appreciate your distinctions between the roles of 'politician' and 'statesman'. Although it is true that any citizen can apply to serve in government in Bynzekistan, the selection protocols are very stringent, and include, among other things, psychological and scenario-based analysis, complete security checks and a plethora of paperwork. Our leader's name is Prime Minister Alcabias Alkamendois. What you fail to understand is that we have attempted to aid the CITIZENS. What we were depolying against is a Honuan Military known as the PIH lead by a man named Emilo Roya Gonzoleaz. The Honuans have revolted because the whole population is hispanic and they are the poorest. This lead them to believe the white man in the goverment has abandon them. You are correct. We do not trade in arms. What made you think we did?

We are not snubbing your military personnel. We simply do not want anything to upset or impede our ecologically balanced land mass. Most of Elyria-Lorain is agricultural in nature. We feel that the setting-up of military and/or industrial facilities would compromise the favorable farming conditions that we enjoy. Even our own military bases are located far from the agri-production zones, with most of them on our islands to the south and east.

Training to the highest level possible is preferred, and we would like you to concentrate on MBT and VLS systems.

We are a fairly new nation, created out of the chaos and anarchy that followed the collapse of the Black Luthien/Acamar Prime/Verboten Lufftewaffe Confederacy. We are actually three nations ruling our region as one. Our government is classed as a constitutional tetrarchy. The other two nations are Alsace-Lorain and St. Germain-Lorain. We share a common capitol, and have two senators and one tribune in each of the individual nations.

Our main strength is agricultural, with hundreds of thousands of square miles currently under production with grains, fruit, and livestock. our main battle tank is the battle axe main battle tank with 120mm-150mm gun depending on the model plus 2-3 7.62/.50mm depending again on the model. there is also the option of SAMs as a secondary system.

VLS I assume you mean some form of missile or rocket artillary we have a wide range of those and they can be supplied or if nothing matches your specification it can be designed and build specially

Our MBT's are all either Beowulfs or Wolfhounds, with specs similar to your Battle Axe.

The VLS are mobile vehicles capable of firing 15 to 60 surface to air/surface to surface Tomahawk or Velocet missiles. They are most efficient against stationary targets, armor, and ships within a mile of shore.

our main VSL vehicle is the Flail it carries 24 medium missiles or 12 heavy missiles.

however the navy opperates a heavy semi permenant system (often on rails) that fires 80 medium missiles or 40 heavy missiles. this is mainly used for coastal defence.

As to the 200 metric tons of the foods you described, is this 200 tons total, or 200 tons of each? We are able to provide you with whatever you need.

Same question about the oil and gas: is it 5 million of each, or 5 million total?

Please be a bit more specific as to the 200 metric tons of "other" resources.

We would be interested in procuring small arms frrom you. We are currently using the AK-47A and Beretta 9mm sidearms. As we are planning to enlarge our ground forces by 70% over the next year, we would need 7,000 of each.

MASH UNITS 24 and 66 enroute to Thergo. They are specially equipped with High Velocity Wind Shelter, and a result will be self-sufficient until the storm passes.

MASH Units are being escorted by two platoons of the 81st Marine Division.

Six HCGS will be available for rescue operations within 1 hour after you indicate to us that the storm has passed.

may I suggest 2 hunter killer submarines and a balistic missile submarine as would be more efficient (the two roles contradict hunter killer=looking for trouble balistic missile submarine=hide)

are you sure you want 18 torpedo tubes it seems slightly excessive especially if they have missile armament as well

We are a fairly new nation, created out of the chaos and anarchy that followed the collapse of the Black Luthien/Acamar Prime/Verboten Lufftewaffe Confederacy. We are actually three nations ruling our region as one. Our government is classed as a constitutional tetrarchy. The other two nations are Alsace-Lorain and St. Germain-Lorain. We share a common capitol, and have two senators and one tribune in each of the individual nations.

We as a region are seeking full allies. Simple ambassadorial/embassy contacts will be sought later.

Our main strength is agricultural, with hundreds of thousands of square miles currently under production with grains, fruit, and livestock. Our manufacturing capabilities are at present limited, but growing. We have mineral and precious stone mines, as well as a super abundance of oil and natural gas. Refineries are being built to process these raw materials.

Our military is at present limited to approximately 10,000 Royal Guard, 4 naval vessals, 2 squadrons of aircraft, and 40 tanks. Our constitution requires all able-bodied citizens age 16-70 years to carry personal sidearms at all times and attend regular military training four times each year. This gives us a militia-based Home-Defense system.

We are seeking full allies at this time simply because we are in need of help in the manufacturing and military sectors. We are prepared to exchange what we have for nations willing to establish bases on our out-lying islands and who may be willing to build industrial facilities on our coast lines. We have many fine harbors and bays where thoughtful and environmentally sound factories could be located.

At present, we have three facilities available for potential allies to move into. Xeraph had very close ties with Verboten Luftewaffe. The late King, Eric Valtane, was married to a distant relative. When he took off for the stars, little did I know I would see him only once more......at his funeral.

We have had limited contact with the survivors of the Confederation's fall. I do know that the former lands of Verboten Luftewaffe, Black Luthien, and Acamar Prime are now nothing but a number of city-states, run by war-lords who have little interest in any form of formal government. Those lands border our own, and we have to be constantly vigilant as the roving bands of mercenaries and robbers harras our south-western border. There are also the occasional pirate attack on our shipping. None of it amounts to very much........Xeraph destroys all who dare to attack it's sovreign territory. No quarter given.

I have from time to time considered expeditionary excursions into your former lands for reclamation purposes. As large and technologically advanced as the Confederation was, even Xeraph would need the help of one or two of it's more powerful allies.

Yes 18 torps may seem excessive, but we will have only four subs, and until we have a full-blown navy, we will need all the power we can get our hands on.

Crew: whatever is customary for a ship that size ( 90-130 feet long).

Duchess Priscilla d'Avignon-Elyrie had a splitting headache. She was pouring over reports from the various new allies concerning trade agreements and military figures, and had been at it for many hours.

The door burst open. She looked up and saw three or four of her advisors headed straight for her at a startling pace.

" What's the meaning of this? Don't you people know how to knock?", she spat.

No one said a word. Senator Duquesne simply held out a sheet of paper, his hand noticably trembling.

The Duchess stared at the proffered paper for a second or two, and then with a great effort, reached out for it. She was so afraid....she didn't know if she could handle any more disastrous news.

As she read the message, her eyes grew wider and wider. She started squirming in her chair, a huge grin bursting from her beautiful face. When she started laughing out loud and whooping, the advisors now crowding the room started laughing right along with her. They knew what what the message was, and who it was from.

Duchess Priscilla was now hopping around the room, still laughing and shaking each and everybodie's hand. She could still hardly believe it........

" My friends, do you realize what this means? Our future is secure, we need not fear anyone, for any reason. "

There were still one or two people in the room who didn't know why they were laughing. One timidly piped up. " Uh, Your Grace, forgive me, but who is the message from that has made you so happy?"

" Who? Who? I'll tell you who. This message is from my grandfather's oldest and dearest friend.......Alaric Tan'it, Emperor of Xeraph, ruler of one of the world's most powerful empires. We are impressed with your ambition, and are gratified that you are so dedicated to our well being.

However, Isle Valkyrie and LeSeur Island have been slated for occupation by the Empire of Xeraph, in their entirety. The combined area of 210 square miles is necessary for a nation the size of Xeraph. We have already finalized plans with Xeraph to construct bridges between the islands and from each island to the mainland. Only a nation with Xeraph's resources could perform such a feat of engineering. The Empire will be constructing several military bases on the islands: 3 naval bases, 6 air bases, 2 army bases, 1 marine base, 1 armored base, and a medical/research complex. All Xeraphian manufacturing is done off-world, and transported to Terra.

I do have an alternative for you. We have a chain of islands known as the Wawaii Archipelago, made up of 11 islands totaling 477 square miles. The Archipelago is approximately 44 miles off the coast, and is actually closer to the lands of the former Confederation.

If this is amenable to you, let us know. I'm sure Xeraph would be of help connecting the islands together.

The largest unoccupied/unclaimed islands available are the islands of Syrena and Randwher, 47 sq. mi. and 66 sq. mi., respectively. They are in proximity to each other (seperated by the strait of Golgo, 1/2 mi. distance), and just 3.7 miles off the extreme southeastern coast of Avignon.

You can build whatever you like, except WMD production facilities.

If giving the go ahead these are the plans laid out.

Step 1: Build an Embassy complex on the Island of Syrena in the city of Lorain.

Step 2: Found the twin cities of Elyria-Lorain, Elyria will be located on Randwher and Lorain on Syrena. Population limit will be set at 1 million people per city. We will build mostly solar, wind and hydro to power the cities and if that does not met their needs then Improve Nuclear Power plants. We also agree that the environment is important and as such shall endeavor to keep the natural habit on the island as much as possible while zoning out farmland for production. We can offer your citizens, work on the farms, or in the cities (in the industries).

Step 3: To build up the farmland, industries and the cities to house-feed and supply people with whatever they might need.

Step 4: Build a Army base to house, at least 1 army corps which is about 36,000 to 45,000 military personal. We can place this Corps under your command or have it remain under our leadership and placed at your request for whatever action might be needed.

Step 5: Build a small Navy base able to supply and repair around 30 vessels.

Step 6: Build a small Air Force base able to supply 5 squadrons.

may I suggest 6 torpedo tubes per sub (4 at bow 2 at stern) as this will allow you to reload more effectivly while allowing you to still have a resonable fire rate (with the advances Pantycellen has made in auto loading reloading shouldn't take very long but if there were more tubes then the equipment won't fit and it would have to be done purely by hand, also torpedo tubes weaken the hull which would mean that your subs would not be able to dive as deep or have the same kind of survivability in combat)

may I suggest 110m in length and 10m abeam as a suitable size (also allows it to be assembled faster as these are the dimensions of our standard classes of submarines)

crew will be aproximatly 100 men with the posibility of carrying some passengers (special forces for example)

so 2 hunter killer submarines with 2 missile launching areas plust torpedos and 1 ICBM carrying sub with also torpedos.

the due date for the hunter killer submarines will be 6 months the ICBM will be ~8 months trials take about 3 months after this and then they will be delivered. shall we say 1 billion us dollars (american billion) to include training, transport, armourments and construction.

I have consulted with my advisors, and find nothing to prevent me from granting you access to both islands and allowing UE to build/develop as indicated.

There is one stricture, however: the land belongs to Elyria-Lorain. The islands are the sovreign domain of the region of Avignon, and as such are not subject to "claim". Nor are any Avignonian lands for sale.

With the exception of the property immediately surrounding your embassy, you must realize that the laws of Avignon take precedence over those of United Earthlings, or any other country for that matter.

That being said, I have given to the United Earthlings the islands of Syrena and Randwher for development of the aformentioned projects. This will be for a period of 99 years, to be reviewed at that time.

OCC: What I meant by claim is not claiming the land in the name of our nation. Thats not what we do. I meant claim as in no other nation would be allowed to build anything else on the Islands, that we would have total build rights and no one else would, atleast until the lease runs out to build anything we needed expect what you stated early (NO WMD Facilities).

I understand your plight, but cannot condone the subjucation of free peoples just because you don't have the resources you need, or the funds to buy them.

The evening was progressing nicely. Senators and Tribunes from Elyria-Lorain were talking and laughing amicably with the high and mighty of the Xeraphian Empire. Bawdy jokes were passed around along with stein after stein of the heady Loranian beer.

Alaric was discussing the finer points of the Xeraphian form of femininity with the shit-faced Tribune Alfonse de Helgain when he spied the Duchess heading towards him.

The Emperor had instructed the Brujah not to interfere with the festivities. He didn't want the night ruined with bodies writhing on the floor, screaming their lives out in a pool of blood. Not a good scenario for forging national ties.

I thank you for your concern. I am in the process of making some important decisions, and all allied support is greatly appreciated. While Xeraph is going through a difficult time, the Prince has asked me to assure you and all of Elyria-Lorain's allies that The Empire has more than enough military forces to defend itself. The Prince has asked that Tarlag be the primary nation to head up the Avignon Security Patrol (ASP). Basically, each ally is to provide 3 naval vessals to the patrol. If each ally patrols their sector and the sectors adjoining theirs, there will be a constant surveillance of the region.

IC: Be advised that only approximately half of the available islands around EL have been apportioned to new allies. There are a number that we have been receiving reports on that are inhabited by small bands of pirates. While they have not been as active as in the past, we need to keep an eye on them. Priscilla was about to turn in for the night, a rest greatly deserved. She was still very worried about Alaric, who lay in a coma in the Healer's Room in Xeraphia. His physical wounds were slowly healing, but he was not waking up. Vlad, Sethanis, and Ricala were holding it together, but the three of them combined had not the ability of Alaric.

On top of that, several of her new allies had requested her presence at various functions, and the Mondothian situation had turned yet another, unexpected corner.

She was asleep perhaps an hour when the phone rang.

Shit, she thought. No rest for the weary.

"This is Priscilla........."

"Your Grace, this is Vlad. My apologies for calling on this line, but we need you here. Can you come?"

Vlad sounded a little strange. " OK, Vlad, I'm on my way. Be there in about 3 hours."

Thank you for jumping right in and taking charge. I appreciate your organisational abilities. Your idea of having EL's other allies come aboard your flagship is an excellent one.

As to the pirates, they have been relatively inactive the last few weeks. As I began assigning land to our allies for their bases/embassies, they were scrambling to get out of the way. They are not much of a threat, mostly harrassing the small villages along the more remote coastlines. Their "navy" consists of salvaged vessals from past wars, some approaching 60 years old. A couple of the more militant pirate commanders have newer machinery, computer-driven armament, etc. These are the ones to watch.

I will be providing you with the islands that are presently occupied, and the nations that are occupying them.

Quite frankly, we have a nominal navy consisting of 4 vessals, and now we have numerous allies who have constructed bases on our out-lying islands. Xaltotun slowly walked down the steps from the platform where the LifeWomb was keeping Alaric alive. He never took his eyes off of Priscilla.

His voice had an eerie sibilance to it, almost a whispering hiss that shook you to your bones. " Your Grace, the Duchess of Elyira-Lorain, I presume." His mocking tone infuriated her, but she retained her composure.

" Yes.....what can I do for you?" She couldn't bring herself to say his name.

I could offer you some measure of protection. My military focuses on ground troops currently. We are located on the islands of Valkyrie/LeSeur, and Syrena. There are six seperate AirBases, the one on Syrena currently staffed by para-military units of The Borderlands of Black Shadows. It is the newest, and they will not be fully occupying Syrena for at least a month. If you like, Xeraph will aid you in the completion of your base. We have built all six in a little over 5 weeks due to the use of AI Tech.

The greyish skin, drawn tightly over his elongated skull, was mottled by reddish-black lines and blotches. His eyes were as black as the abyss. As they looked upon this descendant of the Kings of Acheronn, it was easy to believe that he was a descendant of the Kings of Hell itself. His hair hung in tangled strands, and his mouth parted to show them his fangs, fully 1 inch long.

It was one of the things Alaric always said he'd hated about Xeraph before he took over. This country was saturated with magic......wizards, necromancers, witches, and the like. He killed tham all, and slowly the land became clean and peaceful. And now you want to go back to the way it was? Over my dead body, gentlmen, over my dead body."

Sethanis spoke up, " Now listen, John, it's only because your'e Alaric's old friend that I don't have you removed. We have to do something. The Empire is currently stable, but it's too much for one man to control."

" Alaric didn't seem to have any problems," Strickland retorted.

" Alaric is Alaric. We're not Alaric, and you know it."

The Duchess strode into the room, " Gentlemen, what's all the fuss....?"

Strickland was the first to speak. "Ah, m'lady. Good to see your'e OK. Our erstwile friends here want to turn the Empire over to that cadaver of a wizard, Xaltotun. What think you?"

Ricala spoke up, " We're not going to turn it over to anybody, John. We need help, and Xaltotun is just what Xeraph needs. With his sorcery and our military might, we'll be able to take on anybody."

The Duchess said, " You know damn right well that one of the mainstays of the the laws of the Empire is that Xerap will never act in an imperialistc manner. Xeraph has never fired the first shot in any confrontation. ALl this wizard wants is a vehicle for conquest. I for one will fight you with my last breath if you continue on this path."

" And you can count me in on the Duchess' side," cried Strickland. " I'll never willingly give my allegiance to that magician."

Sethanis glanced around the room. " Then we have a problem, don't we?".....

Sethanis barked a command, and 25 Royal Guards ran into the room. " Arrest those two and take them to a holding cell while we decide what to do with them."

The Captain of the Guard hesitated. " M'lord, that's General Lord Strickland your'e asking us to arrest....."

" I'm not ASKING you anything. I'm TELLING you to arrest him and the Duchess," Sethanis yelled.

Strickland and the Captain looked at each other for a second. Then the captain tossed Strickland his weapon, drew a pistol from his belt, and took aim at Sethanis and Ricala.

" Belay that, Captain. I don't want them dead." He looked at them and said, " M'lords, you are evidently under the sway of this madman, Xaltotun. I'm going to have my men escort you to a place of safe-keeping, then I'm gonna go find the wizard."

An icy wind followed by the aroma of death permeated the room. " You don't have to find me, General," Xaltotun hissed, " I'm right here......."

Neither Strickland nor the guards had time to react. There was a flash, and all went blank..............

A nearly silent knock resounded like the tolling of a bell to the hightened senses of Nathan Rahl. Had he not been in such a good mood from his findings, he would have slow roasted the guard on the spot. Having been scrying Elyria-Lorain for a long time, he knew what would happen. It would be no different than it was for his grandfather...
He saw that soon the time would come to reveal himself to the outside world, but cautiously. Someone with his 'talent' may be powerful, but he was still vincible. Thus the need for men like the guard outside, who was still waiting for his response. With the decision made in his mind, he had but to wish it so, and the door opened. Standing there was the guard, his face purple and frantic from the unexplained reson that his lungs had stopped working. Before he died, Nathan gripped his jaw, and looked into the soldiers eyes. He saw panic, the soldier saw indifference. The hall was so quiet that Nathan's wisper to the man was heard by everyone, "I asked you not to interrupt me." Calmly standing as the guard slumped to the floor, he said, "Why was I disturbed?" One of his Mord'Sith answered, "There's been a birth, Master."
"Bring it to me." The tone left no room for disobediance, nor did it ever. She bowed quietly and hurried to the task. He turned to General Trimac, "Ready the men, we might have a trip to make..."

Captain of the councelor's life guard Damenth woke with a start from her sleep, she could feel something wrong it felt a bit like being near a pariah! But not quite it felt different subtly different, still she knew when to count on her senses her years of service to the Freelove had given her that. She woke her second in command "raise yourself and give the orders to arm"

The young lieutenant responded getting up and starting to dress "to what level captain? personal weapons or more?"

With a grim look on her face Damenth replied "bring everything if i'm right we'll need it"

less then twenty minuites later they moved out, armed with the best weapons that the armouries of the Freelove produce they moved 100 towards the last place they had heard the duchess definitly was another 50 to the embassy to warn them about what might be happening......

ooc: hey....DH and Pantycellen....you guys are pretty good writers. Just to let you know where this Xeraph/Xaltotun/Duchess thing is going, Xeraph is going to be temporarily, if for a long time, taken over by the wizard. This is because the Emperor is still in a coma. Xeraph said that he will make occasional posts, about 2-3 per month, just to keep it going. EL will "escape" along with the General. Then I'm going to veer off with a different theme. thx

The region was beautiful and captivating, a nice repreive from the Palace, but he forced himself to ignore it and focus on his task, he had to keep his entire Expeditionary Force hidden from the magical eye of the new sorcerer. He wanted it to be a surprise. The slightest movement of his hand brought Cara to his side, she knew not to say a word. With a flick of his hand he gave his command, using as little as possible energy, devoting everything he had to his power. Another newborn was brought to him. Carefully placing the burden of the task, and sufficient power to sustain it for a short time, in the child, he gained five minutes. Feeling as though the two square miles he was cloaking had just been taken off his back, he began to eat to regain his strength. Momentarily he was impressed by the First File's ability to march so siliently, but then, that's what they were trained from birth to do, soldier. As Nathan chewed the carrot, he wondered what meat tasted like, never being able to eat it himself. He killed so much, his magic forced him to balence it by only eating fruits and vegetables. Once he had nearly eaten a pie with a small amount of meat inside. Before he could take a bite, he was forced into powerfull bouts of nausia and searing pain, his gift was punishing him. The entire section of the Palace was able to hear the screams of the new cook for three days until he went insane. Fineshed with his meal he went to his rooms for a nap. He had to be quick, he could already feel the baby beginning to slip into the underworld. No matter, soon they would be there, and he would have to hide nothing...

Vlad was not Alaric. He and everybody else knew that. The Emperor was a magnetic, charismatic, powerful man. He was the reason that Xeraph had never been defeated in war. They had lost a few battles, but had always come out on top.

And now, Alaric was not there. He lie in a coma, the victim of an assassination attempt. He was alive.....but barely. And there was some new information that had arisen out of the investigation into the assassination attempt. Crude tattoos had been found on the ninjas, and SpecOps Analysis were trying to narrow down the nations whose logo or emblem resembled the tattoos. Vlad had a feeling that he knew who was behind the attempt. But it was too soon to point fingers............

Vlad heard the arguing as he approached the door, and then there was a brilliant flash, part of which escaped under the closed door.

He threw open the door, and saw five people......well, four people and Xaltotun.

The Duchess and the General were staring through non-seeing eyes, hands out in front of them, groping around in their blindness.

Ricala and Sethanis were apparently unaffected. Thoroughly shaken, but not physically hurt.

The sorceror grinned a most evil grin. " Do not concern yourselves about them, m'lords. They are but temporarily incapacitated. Long enough, however, that we can decide what use the Kingdom of Xeraph is going to have for my.....abilities."

" Xeraph is an Empire, as well as a kingdom, m'lord wizard," said Ricala. The nations of the Empire might well reject you as a usuper."

" I'm not really interested in your pathetic kingdoms. I want Xeraph. And you have a choice: give Xeraph to me, or I'll take it by force........after I have destroyed your kingdoms...................."

After leaving the temporary camp of soldiers, Nathan made his way toward the city. Having left a cloaking shield, draning power from the forest around it, on the camp and donning an unobtrusive black cloak, he was free to be the perfect spy. He questioned the random passerby about the Empire, was it at war? Did they trust the leader? Were the taxes too high? Most of the information he got was useless, but some information, carefully gleaned from between the lines was exactly what he needed. Strolling nonchalantly into the Palace he demanded an audience with thecurrent ruler of the relm. The man began to make some excuse, but when his eyes met Nathans, he froze. In his mind he saw himself being tortured, unimaginable pain coursing through is body in racking waves, it was the most horrible thing he had ever seen, and it seemed to go on for hours... snapping awake, he looked about, realizing it had only been an instant. He jumped to immediatly do what Nathan had asked, vaguely remembering some sort of daydream he just had...or did he?

The sorceror turned and walked straight through a solid marble wall, as if it weren't there.

Ricala and Sethanis looked at each other, a mix of fear and horror on their faces. What have we done?, they thought.

Meanwhile, The Duchess and Gen. Strickland were coming around, their eyesight returning.

Strickland spoke first. " OK, gentlemen", his voice dripping with sarcasm and fury, " now that youv'e thoroughly fucked up everything that Alaric has fought for all these years, what are your plans?"

Sethanis, the King of Black Shadows, ran his fingers through his hair and replied, " You heard him....he doesn't want us, he wants Xeraph. If Xeraph falls, this whole sector of the planet will be affected, hundreds of nation's and their economies will be at least marginally compromised by the loss of Xeraph's steady hand."

Ricala, King of Auralinia, Lord Director of the Xeraphian Space League, said, " Xeraph has many allies, but I don't know how to fight sorcery. The tales I've heard about Acheronn and the unimaginable evil it represents are no doubt embellished. But after what I've seen here tonight, perhaps it's more true than we thought."

Vlad, Prince of the Empire, Regent of The Grey Phoenix, stood up, straightened his robes, and said, " The first thing we have to do is secure the Emperor's safety. Seth, get some of your people and hi-tail it over to the Healing Rooms. Get Alaric out of there, LifeWomb and all, and TransBeam it to my Citadel. We'll have to come up with a rotating schedule as to when and where the Emperor will be beamed. We have to keep him away from Xaltotun." He looked around at each of the rulers.

He stopped when he got to Priscilla. " M'lady, this is all no doubt greatly bewildering to you, but we need your help as well. Can we count on your country in this time of need?"

Priscilla looked Vlad right in the eye. " Anything that I can do, m'lord, I will. Anything.......

Vlad was perusing the daily reports, and two items caught his eye in particular.

The Grey Legions, a staunch ally of Xeraph for hundreds of years, had transferred itself to the new region created by Automagfreek, leaving the Black Katanas and Dark Visions to settle the Typhon Expanse. Duke Avan Astran was the ruler of the Legions.......and apparently had taken leave of his senses. AMF was THE power on the planet, and they were looking to expand their borders. Vlad wondered what the Duke would do if Xeraph and AMF ever crossed swords.

The other item was the discovery that Aust was exploring the possibility of settling a planet just outside the Xeraphian Space League's borders. That particular area of the Expanse was home to the usual settlements, mostly agricultural, with some manufacturing. It was also where the Emperor had a vacaiton house. He was rarely there, and with him in a coma, it wasn't likely that he'd be occupying the house any time soon.

" Captain, get word to Commander de'Longhe that if the Austians want to meet with us, that the Emperor's Tau Ceti Palace is available. Might as well try to impress the hell out of 'em, no?"

The captain hesitated. " M'lord, what news of the Emperor? It's been a week since the last broadcast to the citizens, and many are anxious about his condition."

Vlad sat for a moment, then got up and faced the captain. " Let the people know that their Emperor is alive and is receiving the best care available. Reinforce to them that I am in charge, and things are going well. Make no mention of Xaltotun. We have yet to figure out a way to deal with him."

To say the least, he thought............

"Captain we're getting something through on the radio its hard to make it out with all this dam static" shouted the captains signal officer.

"Give it here!" said the captain as she grabed the headset off the young signalman.

"Reports *static* ..er alpha grade do.. *static* ...peat do not enga...*static* ....ouse command Pariah authou....*static*"

"What are your orders Captain?" asked a junior officer after the Captain had stood there not speaking for several minutes

"May She help them all if I heard correctly" she replied her face a deathly pale "a Pariah, a Pariah comes...."

OOC: Pantycellen society is based on the house as the basic structure, there are 3 main houses, the Freelove,the Chudley and the Evans, there was another house that of Swainsea but this fragmented after a war between the houses.

Just as there are those who are genetically able to affect the winds of magic there are those who genetically block it, these are the Pariah's. They in effect have no magical presense (or at least very minimal). They are very rare everywhere but the Pariah gene is much more common in Pantycellen then elsewhere (by a factor of about a million) though this still means the chances of there being a Pariah are still only enough to have a handfull per generation. They also have the effect of causeing extreme dread in people, those unused to it will be worst affected, magic users are affected by this it spoils their concentration, making it more dangerous to them and also due to the abilitys of the pariah to shield itself very difficult to use to protect themselves from them.

The air shimmered, and the LifeWomb carrying Emperor Alaric Tan'it's body appeared. He had been beamed from Xeraphia, Xeraph's capitol, to an underground medfac in Alsace-Lorain, neighbor to Elyria-Lorain.

Duchess d'Avignon-Elyrie had contacted the rulers of the other two nations of the region of Avignon, and asked them to meet her in the medfac. This was unusual, as the Tetrarchs rarely met in person.

Duke Guillaume d'Alsace, Tetrarch of Alsace-Lorain and Lord Cedric Allemagne of St. Germain-Lorain arrived just as the Duchess came through the door to the medfac.

" M'lords, I thank you for meeting me here. I would not have called you had this not been a matter of utmost importance."

Lord Cedric replied, " I understand we have a......visitor.....m'lady"

" Yes, Cedric, a most interesting and powerful man. Alaric of Xeraph lies before you, barely alive due to an assassination attempt some weeks ago. I have agreed with Prince Vlad to shelter the Emperor from unwanted contact."

Duke Guillaume looked at the Duchess. " And I assume that the 'unwanted contact' is some magician recently resurrected from the ancient empire of Acherron?"

" Your intelligence people are to be commended, msieur," said the Duchess. She wondered just how much they knew. Their loyalty to her, and each other, was unquestioned. They had all been through too much in the past few years not to trust one another.

" Yes, m'lord. His...it's...name is Xaltotun, and he is aiming to take control of Xeraph. We must keep the Emperor safe, away from the evil intentions of the sorceror. The plan is to beam him from site to site at irregular intervals, never leaving him in one place too long."

" I've heard of this 'beaming'," said Cedric. " I assume it's a safe procedure?"

" Yes, m'lord, it is. I was a bit apprehensive myself, but it is a most marvelous way to travel."

" Very well, Priscilla, we're with you", said Guillaume. " Just let us know when and where, and we'll be ready."

" Thank you, m'lords. I'll be keeping you posted."

Xaltotun sat wrapped in the demented dreams produced by the ingestion of the Black Lotus, a plant from the darkest regions of the jungles of Acheronn. It was where he communed with the demonic spirits that gave him his power.

His dreams were truly monstrous tonight. Dreams filled with thousands of screaming victims, dreams of rivers of blood, dreams of being ruler of the world through the darkest sorceries. Treachery, deceit, murder.........these were the stuff of Xaltotun's dreams.

The image of a map of Xeraph lay in his mind, and he longed to conquer it and rule it. He knew that the Emperor was unable at present to direct his empire, but he had very able lieutenants doing it for him. He had to get rid of Ricala, Sethanis, and Vlad. Oh, and he had to make sure that the little Duchess came to a hellish and bloody end. He had a special treat in store for her....
