Pleatau of war

Akaron
13-11-2005, 23:46
The Holy Empire of Akaron rested upon a grand pleatau near the sea. At the center of the pleatau was the capital city of Rin. There had been much arguing between the city goveners about faveratism from the Emperor. The govener of Wavaq was the strongest voice among them. Govener Illio Trent had voiced his disaprovement with the Impirials decisions many times, but now he has gone too far.

The Imperial Gaurd has been called out to remove Trent from office. As the trucks rolled trough the streets on there way to the Governers Palace citizens looked on with fear. When the trucks arrived at the palace gates they came under fire. Men had taken up firing positions along the walls of the palace and where pepering the trucks with machine gun fire and rockets. Three trucks roared with flames as the others were quickly emptied. The skirmish lasted roughly an hour and ended with the Imperials falling back to the cities outskirts.

Now the Imperial army is marching on the city of Wavaq. Govener Trent has raised a personal army and prepairing to defend his city. Meanwhile Trent has sent an announcement throughout the Empire

Transmition on all Akaronian radio and television

"The city of Wavaq has today declared independance form the Akaronian Empire. We are now the City State of Wavaq. We will no longer suffer the dictatorship of Emperor Ixor III, we plead to all who belive in the greater good of the people to rise up with us, and--" With that the the transmition was cut by the Akaronian Inteligence Agency.

This little plateau will soon be enbroiled in a civil war.

The people inside of City of Wavaq was confused indeed. What was once a protest that the King was appointing favorites and Imperials has turned into a indepedence war. Phamplets about indepedence and of 'the Wavaqist spirit' has been popluar, but few payed attention.

However, Trent's popluarity in Wavaq was very high. It went down due to his actions of leaving the nation, but not by much...the government's actions of trying to unseat Trent did soften the blow.

Illio Trent and his army knows he is in a very dangerous position. Their city is right in the middle of the nation. Trent has begun by sending messages to other nearby anti-Imperial cities, telling them to revolt, and join Wavaq. He makes a compelling statement: If you don't resist the government's actions now, maybe the government may seek to overthrow you as well.

The first C-225s began setting down in Wavaq, carrying the lead elements of the 2-1 Mechanized Infantry Division. Both mechanized infantry divisions would finish landing around the same time that the armored and artillery divisions arrived by sea, a week from now.

Hearing that enemy ships were on there way, Akaron prepaired defences. They set there fleet of Destroyers and there Mega-carrier in a line along the coast. Meanwhile, 300 feet up on the pleatau, firing stations were built to spread artillary fire on any ship that approached.

Miles inland the city of Wavaq was now under siege. Trenches and artillary positions overlooked the rebels on every side. Overseeing this conflict was general Han Zeroq

OOC: I'll assume that Su'l is the port city closest to Wavaq. Heading in are 6 aircraft carriers, 2 battleships, and their accompanying 360 escorts. Along for the ride are a bunch of assault ships and an amphibious assault division to seize the port. Do you have any stats on the destroyers and megacarrier so I konw the capabilities of my targets? Also, are the destroyers the only escorts? Also would appreciate a general description of what fighter opposition I can expect from land and sea.

OOC: Sure, the more the better. To civitas: The megacarrier is large enough to hold 400 Jet fighters. It has limited defense capabilities itself, wich is its weakness. Yes the battleships are the only escort, and there are weak basic infantry defending the port town of Su'l wich is at the bottum of the plateau. To further clarify, there are large turbo lifts wich can hold 20 semi trucks at max, for getting people and goods to the cities above.

Absurdly, a running cadence was running through Captain Dieter Clausen's mind as the HIMS Swordfish, a Seawolf-class SSN, silently stalked her prey.

Listen to the pitter patter patter of their feet, sounds like the enemy in full retreat.

Only the pitter patter was of Swordfish's prop as it silently moved through the water at 10 knots.

"Sir, we have a firing solution on the carrier and escorts."

"Very well. Target 1 through 4 on the carrier, and 5 through 8 on seperate escorts. Flood the torpedo tubes."

Sonar operators aboard the carrier's escorts now had their first notification that something was out there as they listened to water rush into the tubes. But it was too late.

"Torpedo tubes flooded."

"Fire tubes 1 through 8. Reload and set up firing solutions for the remaining escorts. Turn us 80 degrees to starboard helm."

"Torpedos away sir."

Aboard the megacarrier and her escorts, klaxons sounded the call to general quarters as 8 MK-48 ADCAP torpedoes sped towards their targets, set to detonate underneath the keel, breaking it. At 40 knots and 5,000 yards, they had just under 4 minutes until the torpedoes hit.

Before the torpedoes had finished half their journey, another 8 raced out after the remaining escorts.

The City State of Waveq has one secert thought in its mind: "Huh?"

People are supporting Waveq, without even providing justification. They are sending soilders and such, protecting it...

Well, Waveq is accepting all the help it can get. But they are a little caituous. After all, those peacekeepers could just turn on Waveq and take it over.

NOT what City State of Waveq wants.

Waveq has geared up for a seige. Shortages of key goods, like food and water, is ambundant. The government of Waveq is defiant, and if the peacekeepers, whatever their motive, can break the seige, then Waveq is safe. If the seige cannot be broken, then Waveq falls.

The Mega-Carrier A.S. "Heart of Akaron" bustled with activity as her radar showed multiple torpedoes on there way. The carrier had been built only a month ago and her builders had left out any type of defence against underwater attack. On the deck Admiral Froth and his staff attempted to board a helicopter wich would take them to safety but it was too late. The torpedoes hit, explosions everywhere. In a matter of minutes the ship with its crew of 100,000 was at the bottum of the sea. The battle ships returned fire as the coastal artillary did the same.

-------------------

There were flashes, off in the distance, that Corporal Schuldinger (CAMC) could see out of the corner of his eye. They were the last few anti-aircraft batteries being taken out by F-21s of the CAN. He snapped his attention back as Sergeant Reimer began to address his squad.

"Listen up Marines! You have the honor of being the lead element of the FIRST airborne assault in Civitas Americae history. So whatever you do, DO NOT SCREW THIS UP!! That means: Cover your squad mates, remember your drill, and DO NOT GET COCKY! Your suits may protect you from heavy machine gun fire, but the enemy is not stupid, and they will kill you if you give them half a chance. Is that clear?"

"YES SERGEANT!" came the assembled cry.

"Then let's move out!"

Schuldinger scrambled into his assigned Mi-24 Hind. It was a bit of a tight fit with all 8 Marines in their armor, but it was manageable.

This was the most dangerous part of the mission actually. While it would take extreme misfortune for anything less than an anti-tank weapon to kill them on the ground, if their helicopter was shot down, they would most likely die.

The first wave of helicopters was made up of dozens of Mi-28N Night Havocs. They were tasked with providing most of the close air support that the Marines relied upon in order to make a successful attack. They were also tasked with the duty of drawing the enemies fire, away from the Marine-laden Hinds.

Below his now swiftly moving Hind were several dozen Expeditionary Fighting Vehicles. Though they each carried 18 Marines to the beaches, they would become the ground vehicles that the CAMC relied upon to seize the city so that the armored and artillery divisions could be moved in.

Suddenly, with a tremendous jolt, the Hind touched down.

“EVERYBODY OUT!!!” shouted Sergeant Reimer as bullets pinged off the helicopter. Schuldinger jumped out of the helicopter and let loose a string of 40mm grenades for cover fire. He was at the front of the docks, a crucial position; and one that would inevitably draw the most fire from the enemy if they were able to consolidate their forces. If it weren’t for the necessity of having to fly over the city, and thus the greater possibility of dying in a helicopter crash, he would have envied the troops assigned to taking the lift system at the rear of the city.

Overhead, a streak broke the darkness, followed by a bright flash. An Mi-28 had drawn the enemies fire a bit too well, and was now plummeting down to Earth. The Hind, heading back to carry the second wave of airborne Marines, paused to fire a brief salvo of rockets and cannon fire at the miscreants who had fired the missile. They would not make such an error again.

“SCHULDINGER! Take your men and secure that helicopters location.”

“Yes sergeant!”

4 men may have seemed a pitifully small group to guard the dock entrance, but these were four men in Mk I Assault Battle Suits, whose primary armament was either a .50 caliber machine gun or a 40mm automatic grenade launcher like Corporal Schuldinger carried. As it happened, three Expeditionary Fighting Vehicle’s that were heading their way would rapidly reinforce them.

The helo had gone down five blocks away, a short run. Though the Mk I granted terrific armor protection, it didn’t substantially increase their running or jumping abilities. As Schuldinger rounded the last corner, that armor protection came in handy thanks to the small arms greeting he was given by a platoon of Akaronian troops, who were just as surprised to see him as he was to see them.

He swore while peppering them with an eight round burst of grenades, cutting down a dozen men who had the misfortune being out of cover at their meeting, a few of them blown to ragged shards by the grenades. More of the enemy fell as the rest of Corporal Schuldinger’s fire team came around the wall and opened fire.

“Secure the wreckage!” he cried, dashing forward to seek cover by the twisted body of the helicopter. The tail rotor assembly had been blown off by the missile, which meant that there was a good chance that the crew was still alive, though obviously injured. He was not in a position to check on the crews health though, as three more platoons were coming, even as the first tried to retreat.

“Sergeant, this is Corporal Schuldinger, do you read me?”

“Roger Schuldinger, what do you need?”

“We’re at the crash site, but have 200 hostiles incoming. We need air support fast.”

“I copy that. Hold one.”

Two Mi-28’s moved in to assist Corporal Schuldinger’s fire team as tracer beams showed fighting to be in earnest across the city.

------------------------------------
A regiment of Tu-160 bombers approached the city of S’ul. Unlike the Marines and sailors, their target was not the city however. They were going to break the siege on the city of Wavaq, for whom more than a hundred thousand Americaens had come to risk their lives. 384 cruise missiles rippled out of them and headed for the Akaronian army surrounding the city, and the CAMC mechanized division that had managed to land there before the siege began. 128 of those cruise missiles were actually Trapshoot missiles, carrying four short-ranged SHARK anti-radiation missiles. The remaining missiles carried 12 BLU-108/Bs and were targeted on the artillery formations that had been spotted by satellite. Tonight the siege’s anti-air component would be lifted. Tonight the airlift of men and supplies would be lifted. A pair of Tu-161 Black Widow fighters would make sure that if any fighters dared to fly against the incoming transports, they would soon regret their error.
