New Constitution Enacted!
By: Ayadi Accord
Ayadi, Space Union – In a historical move, the President has approved of the new constitution of Space Union, officially passing it as the law of the land!
After much debate on Ayadi Hill, the House passed it with a large majority to President Harsimran who signed the constitution late in the morning today, creating Space Union’s new constitution. It is considered by many political analysts as one of the most powerful documents in the world and a smart move to solve the horrible inefficiencies within the current government structure.
The main part of the constitution has been the acceptance of the Federative-Republican System into the constitution. This system allows for the creation of three separate branches, with a head for each. The Head of the Nation would be an independent figure, allowing for no favoritism to any of the three branches. The result has been, as quoted by President Mann, “a simplified and streamlined government, not affected by favoritism and negative ness.”
Our news poll has revealed that much of Space Union is united behind the constitution. 78% of the citizens said that they “approved” the constitution while only 19% said they “disapproved” the constitution. 3% said that it didn’t matter to them if it passed or lost. Our analyst, Jesse Gridu, talked to some of the folks. Most said that “it protected their rights while giving them a strong, federal government.”
Meanwhile, corporations have shown strong support for the new constitution as it gives them more power then ever before within the government. They now will have two representatives instead of only one. We quote CEO/Chairman Raja Tylon of SUNACs, the leading arms corporation of Space Union, in saying, “this constitution is the smartest thing that has come to Space Union since Yarsh established the Republic long ago. It endorses much of our policies and maintains our current capability to help the nation through being represented to the government.”
As the winners of the passing of the constitution begin celebrating today, meanwhile the minority is upset. One man that lead the opposing camp, General Nitz, said in a brief comment, “this constitution does not represent the people as the old government did. It doesn’t ensure enough power for the government to keep order and justice throughout the republic.” Meanwhile, others that oppose the constitution have had a much contrasted view then the General. One person is quoted saying, “this gives too much power to the federal government. This threatens to turn the republic into a tyranny.” But little can be done now as the constitution has been passed, so many of the opposition members have settled with the constitution rather than fight it.
