New Narius

For decades the corrupt isolationists had run the Republic, rigging elections, suppressing protests and unrest, and manipulating the media to maintain control. The Isolationist party had formed a veritable aristocracy, until only a year ago, when, after two years of elections, court battles, and even some bloodshed the Isolationists were finally removed from power, and President Baker and his Liberal party had taken a clear cut 70% majority in parliament.
Of course, the former Isolationists, there power now stripped away, had incited unrest civil strife, forcing the new government to invest heavily into maintaining law and order and security forces. This culminated in the Haven riots, when Isolationists managed to stir up a mass protest and paid off members of the Haven police to open fire on protestors, killing more than thiry of them and inciting rioting across the nation.
That was five days ago, and now into the fifth night of riots, the capital city of Haven was burning. Cars were flipped and destroyed, armed gangs prowled the streets and two police stations had been overrun, turnded into bases used by the rioters in their rebellion.
An emergency session of parliament had been called, the Isolationists in parliament, under Kevin Black, were calling for the immediate dissolution of parliament and new elections. After three hours of debate, and in the face of President Baker's resolve to restore peace to the streets of the nation, the Isolationists walked out on the session.
*Outside of Parliament, Melinda Roenick, reporter for the NNC*
"We're standing outside of parliament right now as the Isolationists, who began calling for the resignation of President Baker and new elections, have stormed out of the assembly and out of the building. You can see them now entering a small motorcade, we're going to head over and see if we can speak with one of them."
The young reporter hurried over to a series of limos and SUVs, armed guards wearing the uniforms of the Industrial Council Guards, a paramilitary organization formed by the Isolationists, were hurrying Isolationist MPs into the armoured limousines as Melinda called out to the Opposition leader Kevin Black.
"Mister Black! Could you talk us about the proceedings for a minute please? Mister Black! Just a moment of your time please!" Melinda called out as Kevin Black looked at her, glanced back at the parliament building, and hurried into the limousine. The guards quickly hopped in and the motorcade started moving down the street, which had become empty after the first few days of rioting, as most people in the capital were holed up at home, fearing for their safety.
Then parliament exploded. A massive, almost deafening boom followed instantly by fire and shrapnel erupted as the building blew outwards. The stone and steel that formed the building's body flew off in all directions or collapsed into the ground. Melinda was hit by a piece of steel and her body crushed by bits of stone. Then a chunk of concrete flew towards the camera and the image turned to static, before cutting back to the newsroom.
"Oh my god..." was all the anchorman could mutter as he stared at the screen in the studio that had shown the feed.
*Streets of Haven*
The rioting had largely stopped at this point, as none of the rioters had expected something as drastic as the destruction of parliament, and the force of the explosion had echoed across the city. Riot police and army units that had mobilized attempted to reassert control in the wake of the explosion, but found a new threat.
All across the city Industrial Council Guardsmen were pouring in, how the isolationist's had managed to acquire so many troops, or where they had trained them and housed them was unknown. How they got the equipment was simply enough, the council controlled most of the nation's defence contractors.
At the corner of Main and Yates, Lieutenant Miers ordered his men into defensive positions. They had heard gunfire in the distance and contact reports started flooding the radio before going promptly dead.
The lieutenant scanned the streets for any signs of potential hostiles. Fires could be seen off in the distance, but that was a common sight in the riot racked city. The main battle tank that suddenly appeared in the next intersection wasn't.
"Contact!!" A corporal called out as he heaved an 84mm recoilless rifle onto his shoulder and took aim.
"Check fire! Check fire!" the lieutenant screamed, he didn't want a fight if he could avoid it.
Miers dove in behind a burned out car for cover as he took aim with his N-3 rifle. The tank stopped in the middle of the intersection, pointing its cannon at the entrenched infantry. Miers motioned for one of his troops to try to open a dialogue with the tank, which bore ICG markings.
The private got up holding his rifle in his left hand by the slip ring and keeping both hands in sight so as to appear non-threatening. A group of infantry came out into the same intersection as the tank and took aim.
"Go over and talk to them," the lieutenant ordered.
The private nodded and started walking down the street. As he got to the end, another ICG soldier appeared and started talking with the private. The two men shook hands and after a brief conversation the private turned to come back to the Lieutenant.
Then the ICG soldier that the private had been speaking to drew out a pistol and put a round into the back of his throat as the tank fired. The shell hit one of the burned out vehicles being used as cover and killed the corporal with the 84 along with several others. The ICG soldiers opened up with rifle and machine gun fire sending bullets skipping off the burned out hulks.
"Open fire!" the lieutenant screamed as he flicked off the safety and sent rounds downrange.
A score of ICG troopers filled into the street and started racing towards the position in a leapfrog advance. The tank fired again, killing half a dozen more soldiers and wounding several others.
The lieutenant dropped an ICG soldier who stayed up for to long and fired at another, hitting the next one in the leg but not killing him.
A third tank shell came at them, causing yet more death and destruction as bullets bounced off the tank's thick armoured hide. Someone popped up with a shraw light, sending the small 66mm warhead into the tank, and accomplishing little besides rending some of the armour.
"Fall back! Everyone fall back!" the lieutenant screamed as a private stood up to flee. An ICG machine gun barked, and rounds ripped through the Narion soldier, stirring small red clouds as each round hit and sending the body into a spin before crumpling onto the ground.
Miers looked at the fallen soldier, it was Private Hauptman, one of the new ones fresh of his basic training. Several more bodies joined it as some others tried to follow the lieutenant's orders.
The lieutenant managed to get a peek at the advancing enemy, they were only a few dozen meters out and the Lieutenant only had a hanful of troops left.
Then the tank fired again.
