History:
The HMS Leopard was commisioned in 1984, as second of it's class and the successor to the earlier, smaller, Bristol class Battlecruiser which fared badly against the Dontian battleship "Victory." The Leopard was designed to charge amids enemy battle lines, and therefore what little armour it has is vertically sloped similar to the German battleship Bismarck, sunk 1841. [Yes, my time, not RL time]. The 18" guns are similar to those found on the Yamato, and combined with high speed and good missile complements, makes the fast and deadly Leopard class a formidable opponent against battleships like the Iowa which are still in circulated use in NationStates. The HMS Leopard took hits when engaging Japanese pirates that had rebuilt a larger version of the Yamato class Battleship, off the coast of Hogsweatian Gibaralt. The battle lasted 2 days, and Leopard took a direct hit to her rear turret, which exploded into smithereens. After this engagement all Leopard class BC's had their turret armour upgraded by 2" and the un-noticed shell trap beneath Y Turret ring fixed.

History:
The HMS Valiant is the third of the class of Battleships known as the Vanguard, or V Class. The Valiant is a modern battleship capable of dishing out enourmous firepower and also taking it. Simulations have proved the Vanguard Class to come out on top against a pair of smaller battleships, such as Iowas or Yamatos. The armour on the Vanguard Class has taken hits from shells as punishing as 24" and remained stable, shown in the battle of the Shepstan Fishing Grounds, where a trio of Hogsweatian heavy cruisers hijacked by pirates used their 24" dual guns to force nearby fishing settlements into their will. The Valiant, alone and unescorted, faced off these cruisers, and although sustaining heavy firepower, the Valiant swung it's guns into action time and time again, systematically wiping out the disorganised pirates and earning itself a place in the history of the navy.

History:
The HMS Chieftain is the largest battleship ever to be built, and the first of it's class, in the Hogsweatian Navy. It almost borders on the limit for classification of a dreadnought and the fire it can dish out is simply amazing in comparison to what has been seen before. The Chieftain is easily recognised by it's long, sweeping bow, where A,B and C turrets are located just thirty metres down the for'castle, set in ceramite armour and surrounded by CIWS turrets. The Chieftain's missiles are built in around the ship, so as to minimise a direct hit, like the one that the Wellington SDN suffered in the Hogsweat-AMF War. The Chieftain has never seen combat but simulation and wargames show that if it does, it will be a sight never to be forgotten.

History:
The HMS Supreme is the only gunship in the 400 metres range in the Hogsweatian Navy, however this is not the only reason why it is unique. The Supreme Class is the first big gunship to carry torpedoes, and not just any torpedoes: the 25" nuclear torps onboard on the HMS Supreme are especially long ranged and especially efficient against large ships that have low turning circles. This gives the Supreme the ability to engage ships up to twice it's size without using guns or missiles, of which it has plenty and powerful. The Supreme itself used these torpedoes to maximum efficiency when it destroyed a flotilla of pirates with russian sovremenny boats by trapping them in a wall of nuclear torpedoes.

History:
The HMS Royal Oak is the first Royal Class DN in the Navy to be built. The Royal Oak DN was designed more as a harbour defence ship or a bombardment vessel than a seaworthy combat ship, as this can be seen from the prow and the stern. Neither has any Royal Class DN taken part in any real combat action. All in all the HMS Royal Oak is not exactly in the limelight of the navy.

History:
The Revenge Superdreadnought is second to only the Warspite in the Hogsweatian Navy. At 750 Metres, the Revenge Class is three times the size of the Yamato BB and it shows. The huge turrets of the Revenge were the first in the navy to be ETC and also the largest second to only the Warspite. The Revenge also holds the second largest number of missiles in the entire navy, totalling 9,000 in VLS alone. The Revenge class has never seen real combat, since most vessels facing it have surrendered at first sight, mainly pirates and the like. The Revenge class SDNs, Ruthless, Resolution, and Respectable where a key factor in putting down the Indian rebellions in the Crown Colonies. Ruthless would later take part in the assault of the Revolutionary Nationalist fortress in northern Malaya, forcing the massive citadel to surrender after airstrikes from the supercarrier Intolerant rendered it's missile systems useless. It took three days running for the Ruthless to put down the fortress' 20" gun batteries, but eventually the SDN prevailed and Commonwealth Marines parachuted into the fortress and took it. This operation, later known as "Operation: Gunboat" was the cleanest Hogsweatian military operation in History. It could not have been achieved without the Ruthless and it is quite possibel to say the very stability of the Malaya colony is due to the guns of the dreadnought.

History:
The Warspite Superdreadnought is currently the largest active service vessel in all of Hogsweat. It's massive guns inspire both fear and defiance and it's long, sleek, trimaran form is welcome in any Commonwealth port. The Warspite, Wellington, and Waterloo served in the Cariya Wars with Automagfreek, performing admirably against shore defences and as fleet defence. The Wellington took a single hit from a 35" gun to it's port missile banks, the only sustained damage to a Warspite superdreadnought in history. Several months before this conflict, delegates from around the world visited the Warspite and were awed in it's marvel. Truly, the Warspite is the very resemblance of the Hogsweatian people - Tough, Strong, and Brave. The HMS Warrior served in active combat against Scandavian States' navy, outnumbered almost 4-1 in terms of gunships when the battle off the Bay of Chukraine occured with Scandavian dreadnoughts.

For any ship on the high seas, the Warspite is a symbol of Hogsweat's maritime power and achievements and any vessel of any nationality can feel safe from pirates if a Warspite is in range.

Well, SDN sounds better, but aside from that would teh N not denote nuclear engine?

OOC: Do you sell your warships to foreign states or strictly produce them domestically?
Hogsweatia

I do sell, but not ships themselves anymore, only the designs, as i am at war (and all of my remaining shipbuilding industry is dedicated to the navy)

13-11-2005, 14:04
Once again, your love British naval names and class names makes itself known.

I've always admired your navy Hogsweat as it isn't all that different to mine. Always loved the drawings. Although can i ask you how long it took to draw one of the SDn's. My one took at least a month, i just hope i'm not a slow drawer ;)

Well, SDN sounds better, but aside from that would teh N not denote nuclear engine?

[All of my SDs are nuclear-powered, you want to know why I don't note that in the nomenclature? Cause nobody in their right mind would put conventional engines in an SD.]

[All of my SDs are nuclear-powered, you want to know why I don't note that in the nomenclature? Cause nobody in their right mind would put conventional engines in an SD.]

You've got a fare point there... conventional engines won't cut it, it would just float there. But just look at it this way..."SDN" looks and sounds good.
Hogsweatia
13-11-2005, 14:55
Thanks Stevid, and the Revenge pic took about a month on and off.

That's true SS, but then we can say that the G suffix is useless because all modern ships carry missiles. The conventional engines I put on are *Backups*. Not main engines.

[I can kinda see your points, but the dreadnaught and superdreadnaught naming conventions were my idea and SDN just looks like sacrilege.]

13-11-2005, 21:09
Um, wouldn't it be SDN because DN is dreadnought and S is super(in this case)?
And I thought DN was thought up by NATO?

[OOC: Yea, but SS is saying that our of respect for his nomenclature to just call it a SD, because that's how it's been called for the past two years and that's how he set it up to be; so it's just a plea out of respect.]
Hogsweatia
13-11-2005, 21:13
Well as we know navies have different classifications. Just so happens mine uses SDN. I do believe that pretty much everyone else calls it an SD so it doesn't really matter.

I like the Royal Navy names too. Maybe you should set up a system, like BBs are named after RN names, cruisers are cities, destroyers are war heroes, etc. Just an idea. Also, what kind of weapons do the VLS launchers support?

i like the use of battlecruisers - although they aren't the proper type.
