One of the main power bases of Holy Xirnium, and certainly the most secretive, is the Inquisition. Often described as a ‘state within a state’ the Inquisition is an extremely powerful organisation whose tentacles spread towards all facets of life, indeed to the far reaches of the globe itself. Once functioning as a secret police, security service, paramilitary army and ruthless enforcer of dogma, the Inquisition had always sought to place itself near the ultimate power of the day. Despite this, the Inquisition has never attempted to rule outright, preferring to remain hidden where its machinations can be less clearly perceived. The true goals of the Inquisition are unclear, and though, like all groups in Holy Xirnium, it once pledged fealty to the God-Emperor it is clear that they possessed their own agenda (and were more then willing to defy the God-Emperor to achieve it).

Modern Xirnium is a rapidly changing nation, and the Inquisition has realised that in order to survive it must adapt itself. Once the strong arm (though never servant) of the God-Emperor, the Inquisition is no longer able to use the outright brutal methods of its history. Events of the past century have meant that the Inquisiton has been forced to accept the ascendancy both of the High Ecclesiarchy and Holy Judiciary over it. The Inquisition shall survive however, as it always has. Having realised that the God-Ministry no longer held any real power, the Inquisition secured its continued existence by allying itself closely with the Ecclesiarchy, indeed having played a large role over the decades in the gradual downfall of the God-Emperor himself.

The Acolyte – Enforcer of the Inquisiton

While the popular image of the Inquisition is of a lone Inquisitor (perhaps with his personal entourage) silently and ruthlessly going about in the night to attend to his or her sinister work, the fact is that by far the largest group of people that make up the sprawling morass that is the Inquisition are the Acolytes. Hopeful Inquisitors, these highly trained men and women form the paramilitary troops and organisational officers of the Inquisition. They also do the majority of the intelligence gathering, espionage and secret police work of the Inquisition.

An Acolyte is a dangerous opponent, proficient in a wide range of weapons and fighting styles. He or she is also extremely intelligent, as only the best are ever inducted into the hallowed halls of the Inquisition.

The Inquisitor

Few of the many Acolytes who join the Inquisition will ever go on to become fully-fledged Inquisitors. For those that do, the gain is power and immense influence. An Inquisitors authority is absolute, they answer to none but themselves. While a second, higher, grade of Inquisitor exists, the Grand Inquisitor both are technically of the same rank, and an Inquisitor need follow no ones orders but that of the High Council of Inquisitors.

An Inquisitor is a most formidable fighter, and to be avoided if at all possible. The mysterious and ancient rituals and studies that they undergo ensure that they are more then a match for an ordinary person. As well as physical training, they undergo long and arduous mental conditioning.

Inquisitors are extremely intelligent. They can dilate their perception during times of extreme stress in order to think rapidly, ‘slowing down time’ from their own perspectives. They have perfect memories and superior perceptive skills. An Inquisitor will not only remember every aspect of a meeting with you, but also even the minor features of the room you were in, and remember it for years to come (indeed for the rest of his or her life). Inquisitors are also trained so that their minds can enter a special state where they can absorb huge amounts of information in a type of shorthand notation rapidly to be examined more closely later. This is an invaluable tool for Inquisitors working in espionage. In this way, an Inquisitor can merely leaf through a several hundred page report in minutes and remember it all without fault.

All Inquisitors are trained to enter a trance-like state where they can use their mental abilities to the fullest. At such a time, an Inquisitor can analyse vast possibilities and probabilities, computing numbers at an astonishing rate, perceiving trends and ramifications for courses of action.

Inquisitors are highly trained warriors, proficient in the use of all major weapons, explosives and vehicles. They are excellent marksmen and have high athletic capabilities and endurance. An Inquisitor will move fast and rapidly when in a combat situation, and is always ruthless, knowing the most efficient ways to kill whether unarmed or armed. Inquisitors pack extreme firepower and are always heavily armed, carrying high-powered rifles and explosives with them at all times.

Although these are some of the most well known attributes of an Inquisitor, they are believed to possess other, more shadowy, skills. Inquisitors have very high control over the biochemical and autoregulatory systems of their bodies, able to speed or slow their heartbeat and metabolism on demand, secrete adrenaline when needed, control the pH of their bloodstream, etc. Should an Inquisitor wish it he or she can even commit suicide on command, manipulating their biochemistry to flood their body with harmful toxins, killing them, or by simply stoping their heartbeats.

It is rumoured, though not confirmed, that an Inquisitor can purposefully release pheromones in order to create calculated reactions in others, ranging from mild uncomfortableness to abject terror (depending on the Inquisitor in question and his or her target, some appear less responcive to such methods). There have been countless reports of a sense of dread overwhelming people who meet Inquisitors. It is theorised that, for this ability, the female Inquisitors are generally more proficient, and are perhaps also able to manipulate the emotive responses of those around them to some degree by the intonation and pitch of their voices. The reason why they seem to be better at these abilities is not yet known.

Government type

The system of government of Holy Xirnium is notoriously difficult to define. In the past, less astute observers would have called it a theocracy, but Holy Xirnium is as much a theocracy as Canada is an absolute monarchy. One must bare in mind that church dogma no longer influences the decisions of the supreme legislature (and has not for many centuries), and that the executive institution of the God-Ministry (which contains the office of God-Emperor) prior to its dissolution was actually completely subordinate to the High Ecclesiarchy and its acts subject to judicial review. The best definition of the governmental system of Holy Xirnium prior to having become a republic would be a constitutional monarchy similar to the UK, though this is insufficient as it fails to take into account the theocratic origins of the many institutions of Holy Xirnium (whose greatest legacy is the retention of ecclesiastical titles), and also that Holy Xirnium does not possess a written constitution.

To properly understand the nature of this organisation one must delve deep within the Xirniumite psyche in order to realise their motivations and intentions. The leadership of Xirnium is highly paranoid, and rightly so. Xirnium has had an utterly disastrous introduction to the outside world, being invaded by the monstrous Kraven Corporation almost immediately after declaring its existence. Since that very first day, Kraven has vowed to destroy Xirnium, intending to harvest its entire citizenry to be worked to death in labour camps until they expire and to execute Xirnium’s entire female population to be then surgically modified for use as industrial human growing tanks. Furthermore, Kraven has allied with other regimes in the past who have made clear their intentions to exterminate Xirniumite populations from their conquered territories for colonisation by the victors.

Naturally, such genocidal threats by such immensely powerful states have made Xirnium extremely fearful. Xirnium is now a social democracy which values human and civil rights, and is deeply concerned for its citizens who are so threatened with genocide. Though Xirnium won the first Kraven War at tremendous cost, utterly annihilating the Kraven defenders, Kraven still fully intends to complete its evil quest.

It is in this context therefore that we can understand Xirnium’s biological, radiological and chemical weapons program. The following weapons have all been designed as deterrence only against the Xirnium’s enemies who wish to exterminate them. They are intended to be used only as weapons of final resort.

Doctrine
None of these weapons which follow would ever be used by Xirnium in a conventional war. Xirnium’s military high command detests weapons of mass destruction, and has vowed to never use them in combat under any condition (and this includes the less dangerous ones, which are not listed). There is one exception, Case: Armaggedon. This strategy dictates that, following an eventual Kraven victory over Xirnium, and just prior to the final realisation of their plans to exterminate the Xirniumite race, Holy Xirnium would reply with its vast arsenal of weapons of mass destruction, annihilating both counties in the process.

Clearly, the strategy would result in the destruction of Xirnium in the resulting counter-attack. Therefore, it would only be initiated after a Kraven victory, when the extermination of the people of Xirnium is imminent. It is hoped that deterrence of the resulting bloody WMD confrontation alone will mean such a strategy never needs to be used.

Obviously, none of these weapons are for sale to any organisation or state, indeed their very existence is the most highly guarded secret in Holy Xirnium. No nation knows that Strategic Weapons Command even exists.




Weapons of Strategic Weapons Command:


Botulin GA-76 Biotoxic weapon

Botulin toxin, a toxic compound produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, is possibly the most toxic substance known to humanity. The toxin is a protease that quickly breaks down the fusion proteins that allow neurons to release acetylcholine at neuromuscular junctions. By inhibiting acetylcholine release, the toxin blocks nerve impulses and causes paralysis of muscles.

Symptoms: Initial symptoms of botulin poisoning include intense nausea and vomiting. The poisoned person experiences extreme exhaustion, terrible headaches and dizziness. Vision will often fail.

After a short while the mucous membranes of the throat become dry; and the victim feels constriction in the throat, soon associated with difficulty in swallowing and speaking and the total loss of muscle function. Death occurs mainly from respiratory muscle failure not long after exposure.

Potency: Normal botulin toxin is lethal in doses as small as 200-300 pg/kg, meaning that somewhat over a hundred grams could kill every single human living on the Earth. The GA-76 strain is far more deadly, requiring only 50 pg/kg for a more then lethal dose.

The other major difference to the GA-76 strain regards its life cycle. Botulin toxin is not used in biological warfare since it oxidises rapidly on exposure to air. These problems have been corrected by Xirniumite scientists using genetic modifications and other chemicals in the weapon. Therefore an area attacked with the toxic botulin aerosol will remain harmful to all life for long periods of time.

Xirnium currently has huge stocks of this bioweapon, and numerous methods of delivery for it including ICBM.



VX (64) Nerve Agent

One of the most deadly nerve agents ever created, this chemical weapon represents one of Xirnium’s most terrifying weapon of mass destruction.

VX is odourless and tasteless, has an extremely high persistance in any environment where it is used and can be distributed as a liquid or vapour. It works as a nerve agent by blocking the function of the enzyme acetylcholinesterase. VX blocks the diffusing properties of acetylcholinesterase, thus causing nerves to fire continuously resulting in violent and continuous contractions of all the involuntary muscles in the body.

Symptoms: Death occurs soon after exposure to VX due to constant contractions in the heart and diaphragm which lead to cardio-pulmonary failure.

Potency: Most VX gas will kill a healthy adult in doses as small as 10 mg. The VX (64) agent created by Xirnium’s scientists is deadly in quantities less than 2 mg, and can not be countered by the atropine antidote.

Xirnium currently possess stocks of VX (64) in absolutely vast quantities, which are compatible with all forms of delivery. This weapon also exists in binary form.



Ebola JD-Alpha hemorrhagic fever

The JD-Alpha species is the dubious crowning achievement of Xirnium’s biowarfare division. While not as brutally efficient in terms of death rate as the above weapons are, its manner of killing is so terrible that it is an excellent psychological weapon, though still extremely dangerous. Ebola is a mostly fatal infectious disease occurring in humans and other primates, caused by the Ebola virus. A filovirus, the JD-Alpha is a single stranded negative sense RNA virus that contains genetic material present both in the Marburg virus and Ebola, but has been extensively modified to make it truly terrifying. The virus is transmitted by close contact with infected body fluids (including blood, excrement, saliva, and vomit) of the victim and also with the skin and causes massive bleeding from every orifice of the body.

Symptoms: The disease begins with the sudden onset of heavy fever, extreme headache, and severe muscle pain after a short incubation period. Within days, a horrible rash develops, followed by vomiting, strong chest and abdominal pain, and extreme diarrhoea. The disease enters its terminal phase within a weak causing jaundice, delirium, organ failure, and extensive haemorrhage (the cause of death).

Potency: The JD-Alpha species of Ebola has a shocking mortality rate, over 95%. At present there exists no known method of treatment or alleviation of its symptoms.

Like all the weapons listed here, JD-Alpha Ebola can be delivered in a variety of methods and exists in huge quantities.



Human T-lymphotropic virus VII

HTLVVII is an awful virus that provoked huge controversy inside Xirnium’s Biological Weapons Division. It was argued that such a foul disease should never be created, not even for use as a final weapon of last resort against a regime which wanted to exterminate all Xirniumites, specifically the Kraven Corporation. Eventually, however, it was decided that the Kraven threat was so great that it had to be produced, for deterrence purposes only. HTLVVII is a retrovirus, of the same broad family of viruses as the dreaded HIV (although it is vastly different from HIV, far more deadly). Like all retroviruses, it is completely untreatable, and remains with the victim for life. HTLVVII, like all retroviruses, is transmitted from infected mother to child during pregnancy, by sexual contact, and through exposure to contaminated blood, (either through blood transfusion or sharing of contaminated needles). Unlike other retroviruses, however, this terrible virus has been biologically engineered to be released into the population via airborne infection. This makes it completely deadly.

Symptoms: HTLVVII is highly carcinogenic, and always results in T-cell leukaemia in the subject, which is always fatal. Having lentivirus characteristics, the HTLVVII virus has a long incubation period, and those infected usually take up to 2 years to die.

Potency: The virus remains with the victim for life. Cancer of the white blood cells always results from it and despite the best chemo or radiotherapy is essentially untreatable. It is said that the director-general of Xirnium’s Biological Weapon’s division broke down in tears when informed that this virus had finally been completed. It is widely thought inside Strategic Weapons Command that even in a situation where the very Xirnium race is threatened with extinction by Kraven they would never resort to such a terrible recourse, though this is not certain.



M-866 Cobalt bomb

A form of nuclear weapon which, instead of fissionable material like U-235, the weapon's tamper is made of ordinary cobalt metal. Upon nuclear detonation and bombardment by neutron radiation the cobalt would be transmuted into the isotope Cobalt-60. Cobalt-60 is a very strong emitter of gamma rays and the resultant fallout from this weapon would be both massive and extremely radioactive.

Symptoms: The acute radiation released from a Cobalt nuclear device causes cell destruction or damages genetic material causing biophysical change which results in horrendous deformities.

Potency: It has been suggested by scientists such as the physicist Leó Szilárd that the use of sufficiently large numbers of these weapons would bathe the Earth in enough radiation to cause the extinction of all life.



Query Fever 7th Generation

Q7 was developed by Xirnium’s Biological Weapons division in recognition that Strategic Weapons Command lacked an extremely infectious disease. Query Fever, or Coxiella burnetii, was chosen as an ideal candidate due to its being considered the most infectious disease in the world (a single bacterium is sufficient to infect a human). Query Fever is a zoonosis caused by strictly intracellular bacteria and has an incubation period of 9 days.

Symptoms: Abrupt onset of fever, malaise, severe headache, muscle pain, loss of appetite, dry cough, pleuritic pain, chills, confusion and gastro-intestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea. The disease was modified in Xirniumite laboratories to make the life-threatening results of Q-fever much more likely. 7th Generation Query Fever almost always leads to atypical pneumonia which develops into acute respiratory distress syndrome just 4 days after infection.

There is also an extremely high probability of Q7 causing hepatitis. Also, the disease frequently develops into a chronic form where the inner lining of the heart becomes inflamed, usually leading to death.

Potency: Q7 is extremely infectious, and can be transmitted via inhalation or contact. Q7 has been modified from previous generations to make it resistant to the most powerful antibiotics. The effects that the fever causes are frequently lethal.

MX-131A “Paradox IV” Advanced MIRV Land-Based Intercontinental Fractional Orbital Ballistic Thermonuclear Missile

It is said that every nation’s military always prepares for “the last war”. Nowhere is such a philosophy more clear than with this weapon. The mighty “Paradox IV” is Xirnium’s most advanced ICBM. Each missile is equipped with 18 multiple independently targetable re-entry vehicles (MIRVs), each holding the cutting-edge Mk-60D 18.5-megaton nuclear warhead. The advanced design aims to merge huge technical improvements in the missile’s range, yield, speed and accuracy with the issues of survivability. The missile is silo-based. The price of the missiles is classified.

The “Paradox IV” is at the cutting edge of nuclear missile technology and, though highly classified, is known to be fully integrated with the Fractional Orbital Bombardment System (FOBS). This means that, after launch, the ICBM will go into a low Earth orbit (normally ICBMs are sub-orbital) and will then de-orbit for an attack. The “Paradox IV” therefore has no range limit at all and the orbital flight path it takes does not reveal the target location to the enemy (as the missile may launch and strike from any direction). Despite its fractional orbital nature, advances in missile technology by Xirnium have meant that the “Paradox IV” is still extremely accurate.

The “Paradox IV” is designed to be effective in neutralising hard targets, and is hardened against nuclear and laser effects and has numerous advanced safety and fail-safe features.

Anti-SDI systems

Xirnium plans to construct and make operational many hundreds of these advanced missiles as part of the central core of its nuclear deterrence strategy. The “Paradox IV” is shielded against radiation, EMP and nuclear blasts at unprecedented close ranges, and is designed to survive a hit from any currently available laser technology in use in some of the more wealthy nations’ SDI systems. It is of course shielded from electrical surge technology.

The “Paradox IV” is rumoured to have advanced new propulsion systems which enables it to evade kinetic anti-ballistic missile defences, although details are sketchy. What is known is that it is designed to be immune to any currently operational Anti-Ballistic Missile defence in operation. It is said to be capable of making evasive manoeuvres to avoid destruction from terminal phase interceptors, and it carries targeting countermeasures and decoys.

The Warhead

The Mk-60D 18.5-megaton high yield nuclear warhead housed in every MIRV of the “Paradox IV” is a triumph of Xirniumite atomic research. Designed with an airburst or contact fusing system, the warhead has blast and radiation hardening. The Mk-60D program has cost a huge amount of money not least because of reliability problems which have only now been solved. The Mk-60D represents a breakthrough in compact, light, high-yield design. It is a two-stage radiation implosion weapon with added rings of highly enriched uranium to the second stage for its extremely high yield. The precise details of the stages are classified, although the first is known to be a two-point initiated (two detonator) firing system and the second a spherical thermonuclear stage. The accuracy of the MIRV that carries this warhead is said to be extremely high, perhaps even up to a circle error probability of 45 metres.

The Mk-60D has unprecedented safety features, including (but not limited to) the use of a mechanical arm/safe device in the primary stage, insensitive high explosives, refractory insulation around the primary stage and a fire resistant pit tested to withstand temperatures exceeding a thousand degrees centigrade for many hours. All of this combines to create a warhead that is not capable of being detonated by accident or malice.

The fusing options for the weapon include high, medium and low altitude airburst, surface proximity and surface contact bursts. Of course, each MIRV on the “Paradox IV” may have a separate fusing as well as a separate target.
It should be once again pointed out that the MIRV carries penetration aids (decoys, etc).

It must be noted that an unavoidable drawback of the Mk-60D nuclear device is that it is extremely dirty, and radioactive fallout from the weapon will be dispersed over huge areas.

In adition to the nuclear, biological, radiological and chemical payloads that the missile can use, the Paradox IV may also house over 9000kg of advanced H6 explosive.

The re-entry vehicle

The Mk-45 ABRV was selected due to its greater accuracy, greater hardness against weapon effects and lower cost. However, a drawback of the Mk-45 ABRV is its higher weight. This, however, is compensated by the fact that the “Paradox IV” is an orbital weapon, and therefore the increased weight of the MIRV does not affect its range as it otherwise would. It is designed to be compatible with the fractional orbital system of the “Paradox IV” which means the ICBM has the capability to strike from any direction at any place on the globe from a low orbit.

Tactical Nuclear Weapons of Xirnium’s Armed Forces

Following the end of the first Xirnium-Kraven War, it was realised that any subsequent invasion of Xirnium would be on a level never before imagined. In order to combat the undoubtedly superior numbers that an enemy would field (knowing full well that the cost of defeat would be the wholesale extermination of the people of Xirnium – see “Xirnium’s Ultra-Top Secret Strategic Weapons Command” article above) the Xirnium High Command authorised the widescale development and use of nuclear tactical weapons in all branches of the military.

It should be emphasised, though, that such weapons would only ever be used in a war against the Kraven Corporation in order to prevent them carrying out the genocide of Xirnium's population.


W-JD64 Extreme Heavy Nuclear Artillery Shell

The W-JD64 “Superdreadnaught Killer” is a 460 mm shell with a linear implosion fission warhead which can be fired accurately at ranges exceeding 90,000 m and detonates with an estimated yield of 15 kilotons. Both its length and weight are classified.

This type of weapon is specifically designed to wipe out Superdreadnaught fleets. It is designed to be fired from both naval and land based guns, and therefore exists in the N and L variants respectively. It is thought ideal for the anti-superdreadnaught role as the fact that it is a shell and not a missile means that it is not susceptible to CIWS and other anti-missile shields.

A drawback of this weapon is the excessive radioactive fallout it produces, something that Xirnium's scientists have not yet been able to correct.

Enigma IX High-Speed Solid-Rocket Propelled Nuclear Torpedo

This weapon is the crowning glory of the Xirnium Navy. With a much greater speed than conventional torpedos, the “Enigma IX” can attain speeds which far supersede that of standard torpedos. This speed is a result of supercavitation, which results in the torpedo actually gliding through a thin envelope of air. As the torpedo travels, the water around it vaporises and forms many small bubbles of gas around the body of the projectile, vastly reducing drag and allowing for extremely high speeds. The “Enigma IX” is therefore an underwater rocket.

Launched from 533mm torpedo tubes, which all of Xirnium’s submarines have been modified to accommodate, the “Enigma IX” exits the tube at 200 km/h. At the calculated time, its rocket engine ignites and propels the torpedo at speeds of over 480 km/h.

The “Enigma IX” is designed to easily defeat the most gargantuan capital ships in existence. To this end it is armed with a 12.5 kiloton nuclear warhead. The nuclear device itself is a boosted fission implosion device.

Delivery methods include but are not limited to submarine, aircraft and surface ships.

Historical Background:
Time does not permit a detailed telling of Holy Xirnium’s complex and interesting participation in the most destructive human conflict the world has ever known, the Second World War. Suffice it to say that, as of June 1941 the Holy Empire official joined the war on the side of the Axis, and would fight for the next four terrible years in the icy wastes of the northern Eastern Front with Germany and against the Soviet Union.

In the last days of the war, with a possible Allied invasion of Holy Xirnium itself imminent and the Red Army having encircled and battling through the shattered suburbs of Berlin, the High Ecclesiarchy initiated Project Lamp, the appropriation of Axis records which included large numbers of German and Japanese military projects and proposals. Fleeing with this information, the Xirniumite army abandoned Berlin to its fate and undertook an epic fighting retreat across Germany to the shores of the North Sea, thence withdrawing to Holy Xirnium, fiercely battling with both American and Soviet troops alike.

In any case an Allied invasion of Holy Xirnium never came (apart from an abortive Anglo-American amphibious raid), the cost-benefit ratio of securing unconditional surrender deemed too high by the Allies, and a conditional surrender that did not involve occupation was reached.

Amongst the proposals for weapons uncovered by Project Lamp were clear, detailed schematics for a new type of battleship, one that would absolutely dwarf even the mighty Yamato, the H44 (http://www.german-navy.de/kriegsmarine/zplan/battleships/schlachtschiffh/index.html). For more then 60 years these schematics were left unused, as Holy Xirnium lacked the industrial capabilities to build a battleship so large.

This finally changed in late 2005, following the end of the bloody Kraven-Xirnium War (the most destructive armed conflict ever fought on Xirniumite soil) when the High Ecclesiarchy decided the need existed for a superheavy battleship and that it could modernise the design of the H44 and begin large scale construction of the vessels.

Outline:
The six battleships of the H-class were the projected successors of the battleships Bismarck and Tirpitz. The H44, the last ship of this series, easily dwarfs the Yamato or Iowa, being more then twice their size. The H44 (X), the warship type currently being constructed, is a modernised version of the WWII H44-class battleship, and will become Xirmium’s most powerful warship class when completed.

Only one ship of the H-series, the H39, was ever started by the Germans, but it was scrapped in November 1941. The H44, designed to answer the simple question of how a battleship could be constructed for protection against all known threats, was the ultimate ship of the H-series, the very limit of how immensely powerful and large a battleship could possibly be built. For this reason, it has been chosen as the class of battleship for Xirnium’s most powerful warship and to be the flagship of Xirnium’s fleet.

The six battleship designs of the H-series were the projected successors of the German battleships Bismarck and Tirpitz in WWII. Were they to have been built, the last designs would have far surpassed the Yamato battleship, the largest battleship ever to sail, or the projected US Montana-class battleship.

The H44 design was the final result of the designs for a battleship which started with the H39. It was vastly enlarged in size, armor protection, armament and engines over the initial H39 and certainly over the Bismarck. The whole purpose of the H44 design study was to see how a battleship could be designed to be protected against all known threats, and it is therefore fitting that it has been chosen to be the most powerful battleship in the Xirniumite Navy, the pride and flagship of our fleets.

The H44 (X) is the newest Xirniumite refit of this awesome battleship in order to make it fully capable of fighting in the modern world, and includes the addition of all the latest and most technologically advanced battle systems and weapons.

The H44 (E) is the export variant currently being constructed for use by the Kahanistanian Navy. It does not differ significantly from the H44 (X).

Note: The H44 is not the largest of all warships in Xirniumite serivce, that distinction goes to the superb Yallakian built Karak-class Battleships.

OOC: The Praetonian Omega-class Trimaran Heavy Battleship (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=9451025&postcount=34) is going to make a nice heap of scrap outta that Xirnium....J/K. But Exocet rockets are nothing against NS grade armor man, so I'd say the chances of a dozen H44s vs. one of my Archon-class SDs are pretty 51 to 49. And what about that anti-SD rocket I recommended?

The Exocet anti-shipping missiles produced indigenously in Holy Xirnium are quite adequate for the job, and have improved performance over conventional Exocets. If we get into the annoying techwanking then I can always break out the good ol’ W-JD64’s, guaranteed to sink not only your SD but its entire fleet.

Edit: The Praetonian ship didn't seem that much better anyway, it has more main guns but of a slight lower calibre. Just two H44s can easily outgun it, and at a fraction of the absurd cost.

If you roleplay fairly then you have to realise that bringing a godmod, techwank SD near Xirnium will get it nuked.

It doesn't matter how many ridiculous 30-inch railguns or aerodrome size fighter complements or silo-thick armour or multiple hulls your SD has, a single W-JD64 nuclear shell will destroy it.

All other shipbuilding titans (Isselmere-Nieland, Sarzonia, Hogsweat/Questers and Praetonia) that have tried to keep up are scaled down and less expensive, but not as muckraking as the Doujin. And those that are bigger and badder than the Doujin are all godmodded.

You needn't be so paranoid, as I told you before Holy Xirnium does not view Southeast Asia unfavourably, to be honest the High Ecclesiarchy is bewildered by your hostile public view of them given that both of us are liberal democracies with similar political ideologies.

Perhaps you could negotiate Xirnium, with my minister in private at the conference for the plans for the Piledriver Missile, Something that is MT, however though the version I use being PMT has a considerably more bit of kick, Either way a gaping hole in armour would be a tempting target for those big guns.

Very interesting ships, it would be interesting to see one of them against a Daokrellzus, it weighs in roughly the same, slightly less well armed but equipped with a few more missile tubes and with space for 250 Hijir. Maybe a war game thread might be in order some time in the future...

The Patriarchate of the High Ecclesiarchy of Holy Xirnium (Government Cabinet)

Comprised of the Twelve Grand Cardinals (All have the noble rank of High Lord or High Lady)

Overview:
The Patriarchate is an interesting grouping of some of the highest Government ministers of the High Ecclesiarchy, and therefore the senior officers of the Executive of Holy Xirnium. Basically, it is Government's cabinet of ministers. The Government and thus its senior ministers require both the consent and confidence of the High Ecclesiarchy, and are held accountable to it in that they can face a vote of no confidence (which is successful is it achieves a simple majority).

Historically, the Patriarchate comprised the senior all-male clergymen advisors of the God-Emperor, however this has not been the case for at least two hundred years now. The Patriarchate now contains many female Grand Cardinals, is an entirely secular institution like the entire governmental system of Holy Xirnium, and is the actual Executive of the government, not merely an advisor to the Executive. Curiously the traditional name of “Patriarchate” has remained in use, despite the fact that the first female Grand Cardinal was elected in 1802.

All members of the Patriarchate are also elected members of the High Ecclesiarchy (Holy Xirnium’s supreme legislature). As the Xirniumite government has now expanded the ministers of the Executive well beyond the members of the Patriarchate. Indeed, many ministers with portfolios at least as important if not more so then those held by the Patriarchate are all Cardinals of the High Ecclesiarchy but not members of the Patriarchate. This does not imply that they are ministers of any less seniority.

A case in point is the portfolio of “Religion and Spirituality”, regarded as little more then a relic from Holy Xirnium’s theocratic past. The High Ecclesiarchy would consider other ministries to be of far greater importance (for example, the Trade Minister, Transport Minister and Women’s Affairs Minister) and this is indeed reflected in the running of government. However the traditional number of twelve Grand Cardinals has not been extended, nor have their traditional portfolios, and a special symbolic significance is still attached to these most senior of Executive officers of Holy Xirnium.

It should be noted that, though each Grand Cardinal has a specific portfolio, they do possess competance in all other areas also (as do, in theory, ever member of the High Ecclesiarchy). The High Ecclesiarchy is an organisation of equals and the ministers of the Government are rarely constrained by the limits of their ministry.

Military Unit Organisation:

Fleet
Largest grouping in Xirniumite Navy, sizes vary widely to suit different tasks. Always commanded by an full Admiral or higher rank. Two types of Fleet exist – the Crusader Grand Home Fleets (the first of which is nominally commanded by the Fleet Admiral) and the Crusader High Seas Fleets.

Xirniumite Fleets are composed of squadrons.

Squadron
Usually the smallest single grouping of warships which will be involved in military operations on the high seas. Always commanded by a Rear Admiral or above. Usually found included in Fleets but can be detached to operate independently. Sizes may vary widely given the task required.

Three types of Squadrons exist – Battle Squadrons (which have a relatively larger number of heavy battleships but limited aircraft carrier complements), Battlecruiser Squadrons (which have limited heavy battleship complements but relatively larger numbers of aircraft carriers) and Cruiser Squadrons (which usually lack many battleships and aircraft carriers).

Flotilla
The smallest grouping of warships used in any operation by the Xirniumite Navy, usually consisting of a similar type of ship class (for example, a destroyer flotilla or a submarine flotilla). Sometimes commanded by only a captain but usually Commanded by a Commodore.
