An Open Announcement to the International Community from Trix, Nation Leader

The Most Serene Republic of Trixxie is pleased to announce that the government has passed legislation which legalizes voluntary euthanasia for terminally-ill citizens. The legislation, called Kathy's Option, was named after Kathy Bordeaux, a terminally-ill cancer patient.

Citizens who wish to opt for this smoother and less painful transition into the afterlife must be counseled and assessed for the procedure by a team of trained doctors and psychologists over a period of three days. Once approved, patients have the authority to schedule the passing-on with their doctor.

Doctors who perform the procedure cannot be sued or prosecuted in civil or criminal court and are automatically immune from any and all malpractice lawsuits regarding the euthanasia.

Kathy Bordeaux and her family has thanked us for our swift and compassionate action. Mrs. Bordeaux is planning to pass on with her doctor's assistance within several days. We wish Mrs. Bordeaux and her family peace in her last days.

Dear Trix

The Holy Empire of Saint Fedski applauds the passing of the euthanasia law in the Most Serene Republic of Trixxie. Euthanasia is meant to limit pain and suffering of a person who will die anyways. Allowing people to be subject to pain and suffering while awaiting to death is along the lines of torture, although in a completely different sense.

Sincerely,
Harold Willens, Chief Justice, Holy Empire of Saint Fedski
