OOC Interest: Flesh-Eating Mutants From Outerspace!
Introduction
Howdy there fellow Nationstates presidents, dictators, and emperors! I'm Florida Oranges, a very infrequent, inactive resident of NS whose been around for nearly two years now under different nation names, here to present you with my latest character roleplay idea. Some of you may know me as the author of the "Blood, Boobs, and Beaches" roleplay that never got off the ground due to the catastrophic Hurricane Wilma directly hitting my town around the time I wrote the idea. The thread barely got started before it died; the same week it was written I was forced to board up windows, buy hurricane supplies, and work over-time, and the week following I was without power. I felt interest died for that particular thread, but in recent days I've given birth to a new idea. Hopefully this story will catch on as well as the other one did, and not keel over and die due to inactivity (on my part or anyone else's). I'm proud to bring you:
Flesh-Eating Mutants From Outerspace!
The Premise
In the rural (fictional) Southwestern Florida community of Sawgrass City, a number of strange events have befallen the unknowing locals. Popular cattle ranchers, townsfolk, and even law enforcement officers have gone missing in the dwindling days of October, leaving everyone from the town's mayor to the sheriff positively puzzled. Strange lights have been seen in the nighttime sky, leading to much heresay and rumors throughout the entire town. Cattle, chickens, goats, and birds have all been found dead, drained of all blood, and the most recent discovery of a local farmer's fleshless corpse half-buried in the murky waters of the Everglades has the town reeling in fear.
The problem: Flesh-Eating Mutants From Outerspace. Of course, the townsfolk don't realize this, nor does the Floridian government...not yet at least. But a nasty alien invasion of the worst kind is about to blow open right in their faces in one of the least-populated areas in Florida, and only the strong will survive. Will you be a part of the resistance, or will you just be another meat sandwich for the little green bastards?
The Basics
What we've got here is a cheesy, fifties-esque alien invasion of a small rural town in the Sunshine Republic of Florida Oranges. The aliens have yet to show themselves completely, though strange flashing lights have been seen and quite a few people have disappeared (from abductions). The bloodless animal corpses that have been found at various farms were taken more for prank than anything else, but all has changed with the surfacing of local farmer Frank Tanner's fleshless body at the edge of the Everglades. The mayor says its a brutal murder, nothing else. The lights are swamp gas and the animal deaths are a prank, while the mysterious disappearances of several prominent farmers is nothing more than people getting spooked and leaving. But some of the smarter residents of Sawgrass City seem to think otherwise. The question is will they be quick enough to figure out what's going on in time to stop it?
The character possibilities here are nearly limitless...I only ask that all characters be human (no super powers) and that they all look to serve the city's best interests (in other words, no siding with the aliens...we all must be aligned to a common cause). The mayor, the sheriff, deputies, law enforcement officials, or local farmers would be good examples of characters to play. I myself will be taking the part of a local crop duster who alongside others will stumble into this intergalactic mess and try to resolve it. I expect there will be lots of action but there will also be character development. If you're not interested in fleshing out your characters and making them real people, I suggest you look elsewhere for roleplay. Story-writing isn't all about the action.
The story will start out at the 10th Annual Barnyard Ball in city hall, where a number of idiotic, rural traditions will take place. Things like the pie-eating contest, bobbing for apples, the Miss Sawgrass Beauty Pageant, and the arm wrestling challenge are what make up the Ball. The small town's inhabitants always turn out in huge numbers at this gathering...it's an everybody knows everybody atmosphere. I prefer characters be long-time residents of this small town rather than outsiders...I'd also prefer if they were more rural. Things like cell-phones, sweet sports cars, and city-slickers really don't belong here. Think hicktown in the heart of the south. No men in black, FBI, or CIA type characters. Keep it residential.
The aliens themselves wear thick blue space suits with a retracting glass bubble protecting their heads. They stand about seven feet tall, have bulbous gray eyes and very large, squid-like craniums. Extending from the bottom halves of their faces is four tentacles about a foot in length which they use to speak and feed on people with. They're armed with vaporizing guns that can disintigrate a human with just one blast. They also have a host of torture items reserved on the mothership for humans they capture. Their vehicles are flat, silver saucers about twenty-feet in diameter, each equipped with death rays. Their intent is simple: to cause destruction. Their suits are bullet-proof but their bubbles are not...their primary source of food is human flesh.
