The Nation of An archy seeks military aid.

{David O'Neil quickly made his way north from An archy to Sarzonia. He went to a Sarzonian broadcasting station and talked to a news anchor. He politely asked her to read a statement from the deceased leader of An archy, Andy Anderson. The statement read:

To the leaders of the nations of the world:

The Citizens' Club of An archy is currently under attack by the Nation of Fortune. We have secured the military aid of Milchama and the Roman Republic. Because of our desparate situation, we now ask for the cooperation of any nation that is willing and able to help our fight for freedom. Andicorp, the nations leading business, will gladly pay a good price for the use of any soldiers and/or arms. Finally, we would like to extend a great thanks, in advance, to any nation that helps our cause in any way.

Thank You So Much,
Andy Anderson

He also asked to remain completely anonymous, not having his image or voice broadcast to the public}

Rear Admiral Barbara Tucker was watching the events that played out as the proposed merger of the Sarzonian defence industries under the Portland Iron Works umbrella became the backdrop for an economic world war with former allies and friends Sarzonia and Pacitalia squarely in the middle. She stood and looked out the window in her office at the harbour. The overcast skies looked like they would soon dump a deluge on the city and temperatures dropped into the single digits.

"I'll never get used to Centigrade," a secretary said out loud. "Forty one degress doesn't sound bad. Five degrees? Brrr!"

Tucker shook her head. The recent controversy that included the complete severing of relations between Sarzonia and Pacitalia weighed heavily on her mind. Much more so than Parliament's action of completing the conversion to Celcius two weeks prior. The secretary's monologue about the switch in temperature scales seemed to distract her as Tucker's phone suddenly rang.

Angered, Tucker was about to chide the secretary for not concentrating on her work but she had to answer the phone first. Letting it go to voice mail was absolutely against anything Tucker stood for.

"Barbara Tucker."

"Barbie, it's John."

"Hi John," she said with a small measure of surprise. Vice President for Defence John Newman rarely called the Portland Iron Works directly. Usually, anything involving the Department of Defence went through channels such as official spokesmen or each other's aides. But for Newman himself to call her was more than a bit out of the ordinary.

"Is there something I can help you with?" She prayed that Newman wouldn't ask her to close the Portland Iron Works once again to foreign sales because of a massive war, especially not between Sarzonia and Pacitalia. Fortunately, her prayers would be answered.

"Yes, Barbie. The nation of An archy is under attack from the Nations of Fortune. They have asked for our support and I'd like you to come down to Woodstock to help us put together an aid package for them."

"You mean I have to fly down to Woodstock?"

"Barbie, the meeting will be tomorrow evening. You've got time to take the train down and still get some rest. I'll see you at 1930 hours."

Newman hung up before Tucker could reply, then gathered her messenger bag with information from all three major storefront companies. She walked out of the office saying her goodbyes and headed home. At least she didn't have to mobilise the Sarzonian defence industries for a war she wanted no part of.

Meanwhile, Newman called his aides in and asked them to prepare the Executive Office Building for the dinner meeting with the envoy from An archy. Tucker would ride in from the tram and would make her presentation to the assembled masses. He would have to get approval from President Mike Sarzo about committing forces, but he figured that a lend lease arrangement with the nation that hosted the first-ever NS World Cup of Baseball might do the trick. That's why he wanted Barbara Tucker there.

He knew that coming up with menu items wasn't his forte, but neither would explaining just how much the Portland Iron Works could handle. That's why Barbie was on her way.

ooc: Arrgg!! It will be rather difficult for my my ic characters to do this. I'll send an email instead. Also, technically speaking, it's up to Sarzonia whether my plea for help was even aired in the first place because it would have depended on his charactor's choice. To get things moving along, we'll assume that the news anchor agreed to air the statement. But if Sarzonia comes on this thread and says "My news anchor refused to broadcast your statement," I'll have to ignore any post, such as yours, that envolves the statement being seen on the Sarzonian news.

{David O'Neil recieved reliable information that the government of Stoddenia might be interested in working out an agreement for military services. He decided that it would take at least another day to get to Stodennia in person so he went to a local library to access the internet. He sent an email to the leaders of that nation.}

Thank you so much for expressing interest in helping our nation in this time of difficulty. As was mentioned in the news report, Andicorp will pay a good fee for the use of your soldiers and/or equipment. I have been authorized to administer the payment of such fees. How much is your asking price?

{They told David O'Neil that some important guy named Newman wanted to have a meeting with him. That sounded like a wonderful opportunity to get some help in saving his homeland. He told them that he wanted them to make sure that he would be informed about any nation that wanted to make any agreements for military services. He knew the weak An archist military could use all the help it could get. That's why Anderson had given him all the pin numbers and passwords he would need to access the two trillion dollars in Andicorp's liquifiable savings. Anything to help the cause of freedom.}

Stoddenia responds: We look forward to meeting your representative in our Port of Oatmeal City. We are a small nation, and we will be able to provide support forces to your cause, because we are a neutral state. But our people are extremely skilled in mountain, non-conventional warfare, and will definitely be able to provide support in the "training" of your personnel... Do you... understand?

As for costs of our involvement, we will require the permanent establishment of an embassy from your country within our Capital city (directions for doing this are at Embassy Row). We do not need money, as we are not mercenaries, but since your country is such an economic powerhouse, we will request various trade grants that will permit our nation to "purchase" capital goods from your country in exchange for our sending armed "advisory" staff.

If the nation of An archy seeks military aid, we will be glad to assist. We can have a company of infantry with M1026 HMMWV there in 8 days, and we can also give you some of the surplus M16A1 rifles we have just phased out from one of our Home Defense units, over 1,000 in total.

What is the environment? (just want to know.)

Please respond.

Also, we can train small numbers of men (approx. 10-20 at a time) for you

The first C-130J aircraft touches down in about 8 hours.
It will carry a HMMWV and an infantry squad.

Every four hors after that, one will touch down until the 32 landings have been successfully completed.

Afdter that, the men will need about 12 hours to set up, and you are in command. The captain in charge will be allowed to give "suggestions," but will not be allowed to do anything until he has conferred with you.

Official statement from the office of the Khan

Khan Kabrinsky is deeply greived by the losses suffered by The Citizens' Club of An archy at the hands of the Nation of Fortune. We have had a great deal of respect for Andy Anderson and his endeavors, which have in many cases mirrored those of Khan Kabrinsky herself, and we simply cannot allow the Nation of Fortune to commit such vile acts with impunity. Such overt and despicable acts as kidnapping and assassinating the leaders of a nation should never be taken except in the most extreme of circumstances, and there has been no activities on the part of The Citizens' Club of An archy that even comes close to warranting such actions. As such, Khan Kabrinsky and both councils have approved the use of any means necessary to assist the rightful government of An archy in combatting this aggression.

Preparations are being made to provide heavy assistance as we speak, though the number and type of units, as well as estimated time of arrival, will not be solidified until we have had a chance to

" . . . and one more thing, Akitsuki-kun. I want you to prepare for the Arbalest Contingency."
"But, my Khan, do you not think that a bit extreme."
"Akitsuki-kun, these individuals have openly participated in the kidnapping and murder of another nation's leaders. Even for monetary and imperialistic means, this is extreme. Such individuals can be neither rational nor reasonable, and if we are to assist An archy against them, we must be prepared for the worst. I want those units in position and ready to strike as soon as possible."
"Uh, yes my Khan. It shall be done."
"Very well, you are dismissed."

As the man walked out the door, Khan Kabrinsky turned to the man standing quietly in the shadows. Not so much hiding as simply keeping out of the proceedings. "Well, Michio-kun, what do you think of this?"
"I think that you've made the proper decisions here. We cannot simply allow this to pass, nor can we allow ourselves to be complacent. Though lacking our resources, the Nation of Fortune is a dangerous opponent, made more so by their obvious disregard for established rules of conduct."
"Any ideas on how we should go about this?"
"Preparations for war will take time, so our first order of business would be to secure the safety of the next in line for leadership. We're not entirely sure who that would be at this moment, so we should determine that as well. If possible, rescuing Mr. Anderson would be another objective. Judging from the manner in which he was used, there's still a chance that they won't kill him, at least not yet."
"You think so?"
"I certainly wouldn't if I were them. He's still quite valuable."
"I take it you already have someone in mind for the job."
"We can send Kappa and Papa to guard the incumbent, and have Gamma and Lambda for the rescue. I'll also take Omega and join up with Sigma for a reserve. I believe the Rorqual's in the area, so we can use that as our platform, and maybe get a fast surface action group there for additional support."
"Very well, see to it that things are put together. But first, we need to negotiate with the An archian government. After all, we're operating on their behalf and likely on their soil. . . "

We cannot stand idly by and watch as a country is in such a state of desperation! The Allied States of Vendil wish to offer our assistance. We have a small military, but we are highly trained, highly motivated, and will fight to the end for our cause. We currently have only around 500,000 regulars serving in our army, but they have all been cross-trained in leadership, marksmanship, tracking, and fieldcraft. We also offer the services of our most advanced marksmanship intructors and fieldcraft masters, they can train your troops to be invisible to the untrained eye, shoot the wings off of a mosquito at over 500 meters and basic close quarters combat. We shall mobilize and await further instructions. Please accept our humble offer.

ooc: You should be careful to note that in character you would not have as much knowledge as you do out of character. For example, your leader Khan Kabrinsky would have no idea who David O'Neil is, because he has went to great pains to remain anonymous. Also, she would not know whether Anderson (the son) was killed or imprisoned after being captured by the Nation of Fortune. I understand that this mistake is rather difficult to avoid, but it would be nice if you would edit your post to account for the realistic lack of infromation that your characters would naturally experience. I'll post now under the assumption that you will edit your post in the future (just to keep things moving along).

The support of your military will be greatly appreciated. You should direct your generals to speak with General Tom Thomson of An archy. He will advise them as to what we will require from your armed forces. He is currently on the island and in the middle of the war zone. I cannot adequitly express my gratitude to your nation. David O'Neil: Good afternoon Mr. Newman. First, I'd like to thank you for your nation's military support. Secondly, I'd like to ask why you brought me here. Would you like to discuss some sort of payment for the use of your military services?

{David O'Neil looked at John Newman and waited for a response.}
Sarzonia
07-11-2005, 19:11
Newman nodded and brought out a folder that included a series of statistics. He thumbed through the folder until the person he was waiting for arrived.

"Oh, hello Admiral Tucker," Newman said. Under normal circumstances, he might have called her Barbie, but with someone who didn't know her or wasn't familiar with the Sarzonian government or its military industries, he wanted to make sure that Tucker was recognised as a dignitary who had good reason to be there.

Tucker nodded her head, "Mr. Vice President," she said. She walked over and sat down next to O'Neil.

"What Admiral Tucker and I have worked out as a proposed arrangment for you and the An archian government is sort of a lend lease agreement," Newman said. "With tensions escalating in our region, we are not in a position to provide direct military support; however, the Portland Iron Works is able to provide you with military equipment.

"What we propose is to present you with military equipment, not only from the naval storefront, but from our other military industries," Newman said. "Admiral Tucker?"

"We can prepare either several of our squadrons of naval ships, several squadrons of fighters and flights of bombers, and armoured combat vehicles and munitions. We propose a level of $500 billion to $1 trillion for an initial outlay that would be payable following the end of hostilities. In addition, we would also be willing to arrange an interest free payment plan whereby the balance owed can be paid in up to 10 years following the end of hostilities."

Tucker handed O'Neil a copy of a worksheet that gave some proposals from each of the three military storefronts [OOC: Information located here (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=404832), here (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=365142), and here (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=452439). We can talk OOCly about what you would need and arrange it from there.].

"Hopefully, that will be of help to you. If there's anything else Vice President Newman can offer, I'm sure the two of you can make arrangements."

Tucker and Newman both looked at O'Neil expectantly, waiting for his response.

ooc: At the beginning of your Portland Iron Works version 2.0 thread you said that you generally presume a budgetary limit of one third the nation's defense budget. I'm claiming to have a budget limit of 2 trillion dollars (significantly higher than my total defense budget.) This limit comes from Andicorps total liquifiable assets (which include all assets that can be transferred to cash within seven years). I am RPing Andicorp as having net assets of 8% of my GDP with 60% of its assets being liquifiable. I feel that it is realistic to use a budget limit equal to Andicorp's total liquifiable assets because the combatant nation has directly attacked its owners. (If this seems insufficiently realistic to you, I'll use a smaller spending limit.) Also I'm going to need some time to look through your storefront to decide what I want to buy.

It will serve you well to know that the NoFians are retreating. We will no longer require a massive amount of military aid. Be sure, however, to properly thank those governments which offered help. Also, Anderson is alive and in captivity in the Nation of Fortune. So we will focus on rescuing him. This opperation will require skillful espionage rather than massive powerful militaries. Consider that fact with whatever purchase you decide to make.

Thank You,
General Tom Thomson

{David took out the letter from Anderson to look at it again. It told him that, if the NoFians took him prisoner, he should not be rescued. Such a difficult opperation would be too much of a burden on the An archists. This was what Anderson had asked. David did not like it, but it was Anderson's choice. He sent an email to Thomson telling him that Anderson did not want to be saved. Then he sent emails to thank each of the nations that had offered military aid to the An archists and informing them that that aid would no longer be required. Then he went home. Life would be normal again starting tomorrow morning. That was a relief.}
