The Red World Wakes (FT, Intro)

Something was stirring upon the red desert world of Draenor. Amid the orbital platforms that stayed far beyond the seemingly cataclysmic electrical storms that ravaged the two continents, several new ships drifted.

"General! All systems showing green! We are ready to go!"

A fairly young humanoid - and the term was used loosely - sat back in his fur-lined seat.

"Take us out, grunt. All weapons hot, all crews at battlestations!"

Three vessels, each one over fifteen-hundred meters in length, activated their sublight engines and blazed out of the system. The general could see the mining operations already beginning to take their toll on the outlying planets. Draenor was the only world in the star system capable of sustaining life, but that had not stopped Warchief Doomhammer from sending the Horde out into the stars.

"Course, sir?"
"The Outland resupply base, along with the rest of the exploration fleet. Full speed."

Several hours later, the three cruisers emerged from Netherspace and manuevered through the massive asteroid belts and oort clouds that were known as Outland. The Horde used this place as a base of operations for its empire - spanning several star systems and incorporating four races. The "exploration fleet" as it was called was made up of less than a hundred vessels, but each one was bristling with weaponry. Truly, this was no fleet made for exploration.

The Horde had one thing on its mind.

They needed thorium and indurium ores. And they needed more than they could easily get their hands on. Their only choice was to raid the outer systems - wheter or not there were other nations there.

OOC: I may get involved in this one, if only for the opportunity to see SC Terrans and Protoss against WC Orcs.

OOC - Why not? Fanboys rejoice, orcs are finally gonna kick Protoss ass!

OOC: Not likely, mine are bigger, badder, and almost all Dark Templar.

And then there's the Terrans... Check out the specs on my ships and such, then we'll talk about ass kicking: http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=444151&highlight=Bastard+tech

While you do that, I'll be deploying the MMII and the three nearest MM class ships to deal with the incursion at Mar Sara, along with a few Leviathans and their various fighter escorts...

IC:

The "Exploration Fleet" made a very noticable footprint when it entered Mar Sara territorial space. Asd a colony of the Dominion it had a few old Behemoths for defense, but not much more than that(Behemoths are Leviathans without Yamato Cannon), a few dozen older Grizzlies, and maybe a wing of working fighters were all that stood between the colony and the emerging, and heavily armed, fleet.

EDIT: I'll be gone from now until Saturday. I have a game, and practice tomorrow night\afternoon.

Aboard his immense command ship, Warlord Grenka Bloodsnarl chuckled lightly. The first contact with another galactic nation in decades, and this was the best they could muster against the Horde? It was too easy.

"Bloodsnarl to all ships!" he called into a Netherspace communicator. "Full power to all batteries, marines to stations!"

He then opened a channel on all frequencies known to the Horde to the alien defenders.

"We are the Horde. We want certain things from you. Comply, and we shall leave you in peace. Resist, and you shall know the true force of the Horde! You shall immediately surrender all supplies of thorium and indurium ores and metals to us, as well as all mining equipment and facilities dedicated to these minerals."

To prove his point, one of the Hellscream-class cruisers broke formation and fired a volley of phase disruptor fire over the bow of the nearest Behemoth.

It has long been theorised that the Warp and the Twisting Nether have some common source; not that they are one; but that, in some way, they could be linked; connected; as a street to a subway; as a corridor to a door. And beyond that door?

The scout ship tore free of the confines of the Immaterium, alive with energy, dripping with the ichors of the Warp, alive with rune and shield and weapon; it gazed at the ruined vista of reality that it beheld; the shattered red landscape, wracked by ancient cataclysm; the crackling portals; the hissing distortions of energy...

In a moment, drop ships howled from the bowels of the vessels; depositing their insane cargo upon the red earth of Draenor; the tortured remenants of Outland. The Plague Marines stepped forth, hissing lightly as they gazed at the world. "What a fetid rock our travels bring us to...."

"Indeed, brother-captain, it seems a dead place; a ruined world."

"We shall soon see, shall we not; spread out; We shall scout this blasted land, and we shall determine the secrets of this place; the ships sensors are confused; but compensating...We may not be alone..."

((In order to keep the technobobble geeks from going "ZOMG GODMOD", Draenor is still one whole planet...just no one in their right mind would want to live there. Outland is instead a group of asteroid belts and oort clouds a few lightyears from the system. I'll go with it though.))

There was a steady hiss as a pair of Drak'qua fighters cut through the clouds and thunderstorms.

"So, I say to her. Draka, I say...either cook the kodo, or eat it raw! I don't care! I JUST WANT TO EAT IT BEFORE IT GOES BAD! Can you believe her? What a snaak'ra."
"I hear you, Grumpsh. Zukal is the same way. But hey, they're just trying to please us, eh?"
"Zug zug, Dork. Hey...what's that?"
"It's called a dust storm, murloc-brain."
"No, that."

The two aging fighter craft circled around and doubled back, flying over the grounded dropships once again.

"There any exercises in this region today, Grumpsh?"
"Not that I know of, Dork. Better call it in."
"Nah. What if it's one of those secret covert operations? The warlord will have our heads for blowing it open. Best check it out personally first."
"Zug zug. Let's land behind those rocks."

Reply to Grenka Blodsnarl:

I am Marshal James Raynor, Terran Dominion Marines, you are a hostile fleet invading Dominion Space, Stand Down or be destroyed.

The fire from the Hellscreams was all it took, a single Grizzly fled the system, using a single shot Warp Gate to break free before any interdiction could possibly occur. It would go to warn the rest of the Terran outpost in the Korprulu area, 30 Leviathans, hundreds of Gunships, and, coincidentally, the Metal Militia II, Flagship of the Terran fleet, temporarily deployed for a possible coming conflict in this area.

Now the Behemoths opened fire, Burst Laser Batteries and KEW launchers spat their defiance at the enemy fleet, they only had to hold for 3 days while the rest of the defenders gathered and made the move to Mar Sara. The 9 remaining Grizzlies and the fighter wings all went to maximum speed and concentrated on the light units of the enemy fleet, if they could destroy the cruisers, then they could evade the heavier, and slower, enemy ships long enough to save the system.

Bloodsnarl chuckled at this feeble attempt at a defense. A gunship spun out of control as a missile struck its forward prow and somehow cut through its energy barrier, but the other vessels held their formation.

The old orc focused in on the lead Behemoth. It was large and unwieldy, bigger than a Hellscream but definately not as much of a threat. Approximately 20 operational burst cannons firing thermal plasma weapons, some guided munitions, and laughable armor plating. Bloodsnarl hoped that this was not the best they could do. The orc wasn't stupid, but he didn't want to get bored either.

"First wing, focus firepower on lead enemy capital ship. Show them who they are dealing with."

Six Hellscream cruisers broke formation and accelerated, ignoring the pinpricks of the terran fighters. Spots on their blue-grey hulls glowed, and almost a hundred bursts of phase disruptor fire split the cosmos at light speed.

At the same time, lances of red plasma sparked out from the capital ships, spearing the attacking fighters as though they were ants beneath a magnifying glass. As the hellfire subsided, gunship corvettes and interceptors maneuvered around the larger vessels and engaged the terrans in dogfights.

"All ships, fire at will. Close with the enemy and blow them to the fifth hell!"

"Squadron orders, Damage Inc., Seek and Destroy, Battery, 2 X 4, execute." It was code, and it was impossible to crack unless you were a student of ancient Terran music, specifically of Heavy Metal, and the mother of all Metal Bands, Metallica, since Jamming was such an issue on the modern battlefield they had resorted to the ancient tactic of musical calls, each maneuver lasted the length of a song, and was very strictly set in its parameters.

Now the entire squadron broke its formation, scattering faster than the enemy could possibly pursue. For just over five minutes they ran, then they turned and let loose everything thing they had in a single concentrated volley on the lead enemy ship, not even the most powerful of ships could take that without damage, but they didn't get away unscathed, because Seek and Destroy was a rather lengthy engagement, followed by the even heavier fire of Battery, leaving them in contact with the enemy for over 10 minutes before they broke again, they could keep this up for days if they managed to survive that long...

Fara away, at Korprulu Command the first reinforcements made their way towards the battle. They would arrive in eight hours, and whatever remained of the System Picket weould be very glad to see the SuperDreadnough and its 3 escorting Dreadnoughts, as well as the 30 Leviathans that were attached to any SuperDreadnought command...

((Wait, so you not only avoided my entire attack, but you automatically think that ships that are [by your own admission] old and outdated can outrun a whole fleet of brand new warships?

Not only that, but time has suddenly jumped forward two and a half days?

...I'm getting out of this RP))

OOC: I never avoided the attack, I mentioned that my shiips were damaged.

Time has not jumped forward, the entire fleet will take three days to arrive, reinforcements are going to trickle in piecemeal. Some will arrive, then more will arrive, by the time we reach day three the entire area fleet will have arrived.

And the speed\outrunning thing is admittedly debatable, but gimme some license here, just because I say it doesn't mean its true...

Does this make you feel better: Losses are as follows:

The entire fighter wing

3 Gunships

2 Behemoths

All others damaged to some degree

There, happy, I actually layed out my losses numerically instead of just going with the flow.

EDIT: Here, lets talk this out on MSN, or whatever your messenger of choice is, on MSN I'm Pmmiehm

EDIT2: I stand corrected, I think we should termporarily put aside our differences in the face of this new threat.

For a split second a wrenching feeling could be felt by all those sensitive to warp movment and other pyschic / paranormal activities as a small well of gravety opend up behind the massive orc fleet. The well was huge capable of swollowing several stars at once. After a few seconds a tiny swarm vessel emerged spiraling towards the horde fleet but still several thousand miles out. The well then sealed closed with a horrid sucking emotion that shook the sensitive.

The hive had recognised the new orc's as a viable component for perfection.. it had come to investiage.

The man sized organic swarm ship began scanning all the ships in the sector as it spiraled down almost playfully towards the orc ships looping over and making a slow but steady course at the lead vessel.
