The constitutional monarchy ruling Italy at the time, had driven Italy to a point of self collapse. Workers were running on strike, the people were too anxious. In the face of this, the government sought to end strikes and political unrest with a military orginization known as the "Italian Workers Force." However, the I.W.F. quickly became such enemy's of the state, taking in ex military who had been kicked from the army due to budget cuts. With the I.W.F. growing and growing every day, those loyal to the constitutional monarchy government, formed Militias and started to attack brutal members of the I.W.F. Civil War erupted and brought the country even deeper into depression for 5 years, bringing about one of the darkest times in Italian history. Things needed to change.
1927 - 1934
The Facists saw this as their only chance to rise, and Benito Mussolini, with his NFP (Nation Facist Party) sought to change the country. Mussolini, or "Il Duce" brought the people to him, with his classic violent speeches, slandered the government, and the political partys around him. In a sense, it was to better the country, which infact it did. Mussolini led a Facist Take-over in 1934 Mussolini placed himself as dictator of the Nation of Italy, and with the execution of the entire Royal Family, and Parliment(not loyal to him) no one stood in his way.
1935-1945 "The Golden Age."
The Golden Age, as it was called for Italians brought about a new much more powerful Italy. Mussolini's first act, was to disband the I.W.F. At this point, the I.W.F. only existed on paper and few bar hang-outs, with them gone, his second act was Military Reconstruction. Mussolini released a form of Propaganda, so strong, and so seductive, it brought about some 6.5 million recruits within two weeks. The Navy, Army, and Airforce was brought up to specs, with the latest and greatest, infact Mussolini went so far, as to create his own group, the Black Shirts became, the Specials. An orginization with Ghestapo like tactics, whos main goal was to provide a step of military force above the regular army. With Italy re-armed and ready for war, it made those around Italy wonder, if they would invade them...
