[Earth II] Operation Firehawk
-Kreynoria-

With the fall of Yelmish government to civil war and anarchy yet again, utter chaos had befallen her colonies. This had happened once before, and the Divine Empire had taken Djibouti, but the invasions of Tanzaniaand Kenya had been aborted due to the sudden return of the Yelmian king. Emperor Constantinius was aware that his last gamble with Yelm had nearly cost him his empire. But as of now, Kreynoria was suffering severe shortages of food, housing, and resources. Over a billion people lived in Kreynoria, whose island empire covered barely 50,000 square miles. The empire needed new land and resources badly, and Kenya and Tanzania offered both of those. A second invasion would be a risky gamble, indeed.
As Kreynoria's two best generals, Manuel Lascaris and George Bryennius, were both engaged against the Spartans, Constantinius summoned Major General Valeria Stratiocus, a women born poor but who showed promise as a commander...

Esthar: Bjornoyan Capital
“You want it that badly?”
“Sedaht, it was where I met my wife…”
“We’re talking about invading a goddamn country Wilhelm, not buying out some local resort.”
“Sedaht…”
Wilhelm looked depressingly into Sedaht’s eyes. Sedaht tried to look away, but just stared and bit his lip. The look on the old man’s face was enough to make him do it. After all, Wilhelm was the master of marketing.
“You’re a spoiled son of a bitch, you know that Wilhelm?”
“How can I be spoiled? The more I acquire the more I grow. You forget a very important rule of life; One must acquire more in order to become more. I cannot be spoiled, I’m still growing.”
Sedaht hated Wilhelms logic, but he’d grant this for an old friend.
“Alright, we’ll batch some evidence of terrorism down in Cameroon, and I’ll send out the 3rd and 5th peacekeeping divisions along with the fleet down there. The rest of the operation will be conducted using Visara Co. security forces. I will not commit this nation to a war over some nostalgic sentimentality. The past isn’t everything Wilhelm. As a nation we must move forward. You should learn that as well.”
“Thank you Sedaht.”
Sedaht summoned Jacksehn Hegel, giving him the necessary information and orders for the mission.
“Dispatch them at once, Jacksehn.”
“Of course, your eminancy. Where did you believe the cell might be operating from?”
"Zanzibar. Evidence of an anti-Bjornoyan terrorist cell was confiscated by one of our peacekeeping divisions down in Cameroon. Check the slums and alley-ways, I want these creatures eliminated, understood? We must set an example."
“For love and honor!” Jacksehn gave the traditional Bjornoyan salute, and went about figuring the logistics for this expedition.
Herrgott Jacksehn Hegel quickly put the fleet to sea, and sent down another fleet from Esthar for replacement. Along with the fleet, Jacksehn sent a contingent of marines, the 3rd and 5th Peacekeeping Divisions, and mechanized infantry. Trained for amphibious assualt, the soldiers prepared themselves for what might be a long and toilous battle. Specifics on what they would be dong were kept classified. All that was known is their destination was on the eastern coast of Africa.

OOC: Zanzibar is an island of Tanzania, right?
IC: General Stratiocus entered the Imperial Throne Room. On either side of the purple carpet leading up to the gold-and-ivory throne stood the Emperor's armoured bodyguards, each brandishing a sparking electro-pike. Stratiocus shuddered as she passed the robotically silent guards. The emperor stood and dismissed his protectors. The general silently kissed the Emperor's hand, then knelt, head bowed.
"I assume you know of the Divine Empire's population problem," said the emperor
"Yes of course, my lord," General Stratiocus responded.
"God has granted us an opportunity in the fall of Yelm. Vast new lands are ripe for the taking. New mineral resources, a great land of opportunity. Tanzania and Kenya were predestined to be ruled by Kreynoria. Yet, there are pigs living there who mean to deny Kreynoria's destiny. Negotiations have failed with the squabbling warlords that rule those golden lands, and now their subjugation will require force of arms. I believe that you are the perfect one to execute this campaign."
"I thank you for your high opinion of my abilities, but with all due respect, does not the Empire have more capable servitors to complete this mission?" Stratiocus asked uncertainly.
The emperor laughed and said, "You underestimate your own ability. With generals Lascaris and Bryennius occupied in the Spartan campaign, you are the one most qualified for this operation. I will leave you to plan the invasion. You may draw whatever forces necessary from Defence Sector South. Assemble your army on Reunion Island, where I will inspect your forces and plan of attack. I have already let the international community know of our claim to Kenya and Tanzania."
"Your will be done, my lord," said General Stratiocus.
"May God be with you, General," the Emperor said, "And summon my bodyguards on your way out. You are dismissed."

The Emperor stood on a balcony overlooking thousands upon thousands of Kreynorian troops.
"Soldiers of Kreynoria! You have been assembled to take part in an invasion, upon which rests the fate of the Empire! The lands of Kenya and Tanzania are promised to us. The petty warlords that misrule this Promised Land must be vanquished. Any and all who support them shall be doomed to eternal damnation. These lands can only be ruled rightly by Kreynoria. Take them for her, and for me!"
With a great cheer, the army set out to their transports...

"General, we have detected another flotilla, on course towards Tanzania. They appear to be Bjornoyan," said the radar operator on the Nemesis, a Kilauea-class dreadnaught that was serving as flagship.
"What? They dare dispute our claim!?" barked the general, "Inform the Emperor at once!"
"Yes ma'am," responded the comm officer.
"Hail their flagship. Tell them to turn back at once."
"Yes ma'am."
Message to Bjornoyan Fleet
The Empire of Kreynoria demands that you turn back immediately. Tanzania and Kenya belong rightfully to Kreynoria. We will not negotiate and will open fire if you do not turn back. We have already claimed Tanzania, and we will not negotiate for it. This is your first, last, and only warning. Turn back, or prepare to face the might of Kreynoria!

The young Bjornoyan admiral Burnside received word from Kreynorian flotilla. He laughed, funny these Kreynorian spoke of their 'rightful' claim. Not long ago these bullies demanded to intervene with the peaceful Bjornoyan assistance and claims within the South Pacific, and now were demanding no foreign forces intervene with their claims in distant Africa. Hypocrites...
A message was sent from the BFG Bismark II class Alabaster:
Bjornoya is in the process of seizing the island of Zanzibar. Recent activities suggest anti-Bjornoyan elements reside in the region. We will proceed with this mission. Interference by foreign forces will be met with force. Firing upon any Federal troops will result in war.
With that, Burnside ordered the remainder of the B.F.G CVN Inspiration's airwing to take flight.

The squads held close to the Bjornoyan Federal fleet in groups of three or four. The Hawkeyes were already high above from the recent operation. The fleet prepared itself for combat. Located about 4 hundred miles north-east off the coast of Zanzibar, 2 Hades class subs began placing mines throughout possible routes of the Kreynorian fleet. Air reconnaissance gave radar readings of discovered Kreynorian ships. The fleet was enormous, but Burnside was willing to attempt the job if needed. The outer perimeter sectors buzzed with Helicopter from the Inspiration, watching for submarine movement and preparing to engage if needed.

Meanwhile...
The Visara Co. Security Forces fleet bustled with activity, assisting in the defensive maneuvers of the Federal Fleet. The commanding officer, XO of Visara Co. Naval Security forces Klara Beatrix discussed possible solutions with CEO Wilhelm Kaufmann for resolving the conflict. She sent a message from the V.C.G. CGN Steadfast to the Kreynorian flagship Nemesis.
With the recent oil crisis that particularly affects your island nation, CEO Wilhelm Kaufmann has offered a deal. Bjornoyan rights to the island of Zanzibar in exchange for rights to 3 arctic oil drilling sites. An estimated 450 million barrels of untapped oil lie in said drilling sites. Visara Co. wishes you the best of luck in your upcoming trials, and hopes you will consider doing business with us soon.
Meanwhile...
3 PM: The previous night:
Bjornoyan Federal Forces made land-fall on the southern beach-heads of Zanzibar. A limited amount of soldiers were deposited, about 50 scouts, 20 Marders, and 15 Leopards, backed up by 7,500 Bjornoyan Federal Peacekeepers secured the city with limited resistance. The citizenry made no quarrel, it was a Saturday night and most were too busy partying to care. The next morning they would wake up with their hangovers and their one-night-stands to a quasi-brainwashed overly friendly Bjornoyan Peacekeeping division. Along with the Federal Troops, 100 Visara Co. Security forces made landfall with Bjornoyan troops. Their stated mission was to assist the Federal Troops with occupation. What they actually did, however, was a different story.
Mr. Antero Jakaus the leader of this small dispatchment received specific orders from Wilhelm Kaufmann that not even the Patriarch himself knew about. Within it was the reason why Wilhelm was so interested in Zanzibar. A single elderly gentleman by the name of George Carver. Nothing was told about why he was needed, or what his importance was. Instructions stated he would be located within the alley-ways of downtown Zanzibar, in a seemingly abandoned apartment with a sign: a pyramid with a glowing eye atop.
Jakaus split his party up into 10 groups, which spread apart to search the city. After 3 grueling hours, Jakaus' squad finally came to a structure that resembled what Wilhelm had described. A group of drunks walked aimlessly outside the building. Jakaus ignored these little people, and entered.
The building groaned as he and his squad slowly entered the dieing building. The building was decaying, but somewhere it smelled distinctly like... cinnamon? Jakaus signaled for his troops to shut up and get down. Tapping the floorboards, he came upon a discontinuity. He lifted the blunt end of his HK UMP SMG, and smashed through the softened wood. A stone staircase winded aimlessly down a secret passageway. The further they went, the stronger the smell. As they reached the end of the staircase, the were met by an enormous underground household. A fireplace lit up what seemed like an endless procession of books. Gnostic texts and Greek philosophers, Don Quijote, Crime and Punishment, Treatise on Government, Thus Spake Zarathustra... the site was breathtaking. Jakaus suddenly was aware of a foreign presence. His squad had already discovered it, but Jakaus finally turned around to an old man carrying a plate of cinnamon roles.
"Mr. Antero Jakaus, I presume? Please, have a cinnamon roll before we go."
"But...wait, where? How did you...?"
"He didn't tell you? So be it, you don't need to know child. Were you followed?"
"I don't think so, everyone appears drunk on the streets, while everyone else is sleeping."
"Appearances mean nothing here, we are all masters of deception."
Jakaus suddenly heard gunshots. A haunting 'tink....tink....tink......tink..tink' He looked horrified at the ground. With stunning ease the old man yanked Jakaus into the kitchen. An explosion, some screams...
"See, you were followed? The Silencers must have seen you. Come, we must go."
"Where, damnit old man are you even George Carver?"
The old man smiled
"People have called me that."
George swung back an enormous wine-rack to another secret passage-way, motioning for Jakaus and the two surviving members of the squad to get in.

The Emperor reviewed the messages from the front. The Bjornoyans had not backed down, but instead offered an interesting deal. Zanzibar was of little strategic importance, and the offshore East Timor oilfields could not sustain the Empire for long. Odds were, Kreynoria would defeat Bjornoya if there was a war. But the promise of new oil drilling sites would keep the Empire alive until the bubonic plague outbreak was eliminated.
Upon receiving her orders, General Stratiocus had a new message transmitted to the Bjornoyans:
The deal you have offered is acceptable. We will allow you a free hand in Zanzibar in exchange for the oil wells.

The V.C.G. CGN Steadfast received the message. CEO Wilhelm Kaufmann was sent the information, and quickly signed the appropriate papers confirming the transaction. Klara Beatrix breathed a sigh of relief, and relayed the information to the Bjornoyan Federal gunships. Admiral Burnside received orders from Herrgott Jacksehn Hegel and now confirmation from Visara. Federal Forces to the northeast were recalled and put off full alert. Zanzibar was under Bjornoyan control. Why this little island would cause such a problem, he did not know, but that wasn’t his job, he did not need to question. For the time being, he would co-ordinate the landfall of more Bjornoyan Federal Peacekeepers into Zanzibar.
……………………………………………………………………………………….
Back within the underground of the Zanzibar slums, Antero and George made their way swiftly through darkened passageways. Antero was curious as to why this man was of such importance that Wilhelm would have risked war to get him. After 15 minutes of sprinting through an impossible labyrinth, the group arrived at a luxurious underground dock. 3 yachts along with various motor boats sat within the waters. Antero soon realized the smell; it was horrible. Amongst greenish-brown gunk, pockets of gas bubbled to the surface, releasing an unbearable stench. George showed his guests into a small motor boat within the depths of Zanzibar’s sewer system.
The group hopped in. George revved the engine, and the boat swiftly floated its way through the toxic mess. Behind them, Antero heard and saw a giant explosion. Flames raced through the corridors, igniting the waste and spreading rapidly.
“What the hell happened?”
“They tried to follow us, those boats where rigged to blow if anyone started them improperly. Never underestimate your enemy, especially their stupidity.”
George smiled.
A spec of pure sunlight shined through the seemingly endless tunnel. The flames grew, flying through the tunnels. Antero just closed his eyes. For a moment, he felt weightless, then a crash, and the boat slowed within the port of Zanzibar. Antero felt his face and limbs. As he brushed, the hair from his body and head slowly fell to the ground in charred batches.
George just laughed. Ahead was the V.C.G. SSN Nightmare. The hatch opened, and the group made its way into the depths of the ship.
