"How is everything Madam President?"
"Oh, everything's alright." Replied Ki with a smile. The aid bowed, and exited the room. Ki shifted a few datapads around her desk, and flicked a switch. The datapads flickered, and vanished. Her whole desk was a physical interface of holograms. With a sigh, she pushed out her chair, and stood in front of a large window behind her. Outside, bright lights flickered and the headlights of innumerable hovercars seemed to drift lazily about like wisps of clouds. Below, she could see dozens of trains snaking their way through the vast city that lay before her. Massive crowds of people moved about not unlike ants, but Ki would never see them that way. {These are my people.} she thought with a appreciative smile. Ads flickered, cars flew about, and hoards of people went about their business, as the city lights glittered like the vast star fields in the heavens above. The sky was clear, and the twin moons shown brightly. Such was the night life on Sapherion Prime.
Her thoughts drifted about, until she suddenly remembered the invitation she had sent the day before. {I wonder when they'll get here...}

As Ki was thinking about these things, Robert was boarding his personal shuttle. It had the creature comforts befitting a man of his status. media players, whiskey, etc. And, a Kroot bodyguard, armed and watchful for those who wished to hurt the Premier.
After he boarded, he began to move. His shuttle took off, and soon, it was close to Eshirian space. Robert then radioed the Eshirians:
"Eshirian Soverignity, this is Premier Robert MacIntyre. I have been invited to meet your leader. Please allow me to enter."

Immediately as the request was cleared, two tiny traffic light like robotic drones, just two of trillions lining the edge of Eshirian Space, spun around to face the ship with green lights. A audio only message was broadcast directly from Ki herself to the small shuttle, "Greetings and welcome to the Eshirian Sovereignty. If you don't mind, please take Hypergate 361 and route Sapherion one-one-two. Two Shadow Cruisers will be there to escort you on your way." Her military background was evident from her quick and efficient speach, yet the normally militaristic, hard edged tone was dulled by years as a public speaker to the people, replaced instead with a warmer, more feminine voice.

{They should be here any second...}
The mood onboard the ESV Lightning was oddly enough, electric. Only after being in space for about three days for shakedowns, the crew was still as green as any other Home Guard vessel, and it showed. Still they needed experience, and what better way to gain that then by guard their home?
Captain Ra'alun waited impatiently...

{Here we go...}
The area where the ND vessel had landed was in the northern hemisphere of Sapherion Prime, near the coastline of the third largest continent on the planet. The city, popularly known as "The Capitol" was home to the second largest space port in the system, and with this meeting, would be playing host to the 30th foreign visit by another modern power in over 20 years, since the Sovereignty pulled out of isolationism.
President Ki'Menoshi, usually referred to as "Kime", stood by inside the giant complex, looking out through huge arching windows at the landing vessel. Accompanied by her aids, she glided out to meet the new dignitaries as the ship touched down.
About two stories below Kime's level at the landing pad, a standard security detail of honorary EsSov guards stood ready and at attention, while Ki's Viceroy walked up to meet Robert.
She extended her hand as she began to speak, "Greetings, I am Ki's Viceroy Mito Kana, welcome to the Sovereignty."

He then let go, and saluted the guards. His Kroot bodyguard saluted also.
The guards didn't react. It wasn't their place to. Mito gave an apolgetic smile and said, "Sorry, they're ordered not to move."
She shook Robert's hand and bowed to the side, indicating the path where Robert was to go. Ki walked out just as Mito waved her hand, and approached Robert. "Hello, I am Ki'Menoshi, President of the Eshirian Sovereignty." She extended her own hand. "Welcome again to the Sovereignty."

"Yes, we have much to discuss." the EsSov Guards began to file neatly into flanking positions to both Ki and her guest.
Ki started to walk slowly to a small HMTP Mass Transit craft. The doors glided open and Ki moved out her hand. "Please, this way. We'll be headed to a small lunch. We'll get started on the way."

Robert and his Kroot guard followed Ki as they headed to the Mass Transit craft. The city was indeed beautiful, and the Mass Transit was a sight for sore eyes, compared to LA's grungy Metro.
He then said, inquisitively, "Lunch, eh? What will be served, if I may ask?"

"Oh, we've use replicator systems for these kinds of meetings. It's a lot safer than risking a cook serving bad food. If a machine does it, what can be said?" Ki laughed a bit, trying to put some humor into the mood. "So we'll be serving whatever our systems can make. I was planning to serve some of our traditional dishes, like Sentia. I don't mean to sound presumptuous, but I don't think you'd recognize what I would be describing."
They arrived at the transit and Ki sat down in one of the chairs. The Presidential Transit was about the size of a bus, with a clean, minimalist interior, and large windows on either side. There were only a few seats, and Ki took a seat near the front of the vehicle. Outside the windows an expansive view of the capital city could be seen. The building's glittered brightly with lights of nightlife. The Transit shot forward, inertial systems subdued the sudden lurch and they were on their way.
"So, our first order of business... We have technology exchanges on the agenda."

Robert then said, "I was thinking of allowing New Dornalian personnel to be trained by Eshirians, either in your land, or by you sending personnel to us, so as to familiarize ourselves with your technology before we begin operations. Also, we are in the market for, say, better electronics and scanning equipment that could improve our Amethyst systems and our existing computers. And, better artillery would do us good, we have little or no experience in modern (OOC: FT) artillery."

"That's quite a list of desires. But I'm sure you understand there will be a limit on technologies we feel that you're ready to handle. Technologies such as our inertial drives for instance are something that we can't give, until that is, you have mastered the power source necessary to fuel such a device, like our zero point generators. I can't say much for giving you military technology directly though. I'm sure that you understand, this is only our second meeting, and trust on that level isn't built overnight."

"Hm, that would depend on how your version of this engine works. The only advantages that come to mind are, a much higher energy output to input ratio than would ever be possible with a SE. The ZPGs are also much less damaging to the surrounding space-time, are easier to maintain, cheaper to manufacture, heh, as your people say, 'the works'."
Ki moved her head slightly to one side, while keeping her eyes on Robert. "Interested?"

"Ah, that it is by far. ZPGs produce no real waste. Their only recorded emissions over the last few million years we Eshirians have been using them are some heat, a bit of light, and a minute flux in the fabric of space time in the higher grade models that produce more energy. There have been few mishaps with the system itself. The most serious was an overload of a planetary level ZPG which resulted in the destruction of the system. The flaw was discovered to have been a "Phantom" infiltration into the core units, which resulted in it's detonation. In reality, it's not even possible for a ZPG to explode without that kind of sabotage. They only run out of power after a few thousand years, and are replaced."

Robert then said, smiling, "Well, so far, your people are accomidating, and I like the ZPGs, but I am a responsible consumer, in regards to the material. As for your people, very generous, and you seem to have a knack for channeling brainpower where it is needed."
(OOC: Ummm, that's not what I meant. There's ZPG's powering everything, sooo, think about what I was implying... I only say it like this because I know you in RL.)

Suddenly, the blur that was the outside world snapped into sharp focus. The Mass Transit had arrived at its destination and slowed down from hundreds of kilometers per hour to a standstill in a mere second. Ki glanced outside, "And here we are."

Ki looked over at a report and aid had just handed her. "We can't tell exactly. ACE-Recon says that the largest vessels fit the general profile of your 1st generation 'Mao' class vessels. The other vessels we haven't documented."
Skimming over the rest of the data, Ki gave a sigh, and let her arms fall to her thighs. "The battle ready half of our fleet is tied up on the border of Neo Zeta with that uprising. "That is what we have also suspected. However, they have still managed to strike at a time when we are the least capable of responding in full force..."
Ki looked down, then up again. "In any case, we'll be ready. For now, please, this way to my office. We'll be having dinner at a table set up inside.

Robert followed Ki to her office, and he motioned for his Kroot bodyguard to follow. The area gave him a good impression, and they arrived at their office, he then walked in, and took a seat, as did his Kroot bodyguard.

Ki came around the other side of the table. It was adorned with lavishly arranged flowers, and other decorations with two empty spots were ordered dishes would appear. Lights in the room were positioned in such a way that the lights themselves, while out of sight, provided a gentle glow of ambient light with a gentle, sunset like warm glow.
As Ki took her seat, she spoke, "Alright, the "Cook" [Replicators], here is voice activated." She said. "We should have whatever it is you're looking for. Anytime you're ready you can order something up. Or we can provide some traditional dishes for you is you prefer."

Robert then said, "I'd like to have....a rack of St. Louis-style Baby back ribs. Plus a longneck bottle of IBC Root Beer. And, something traditional to the Eshirian diet."
The Kroot retainer then said, "I would like some Steak Tatare."

A slight humming noise began. While the computer could recognize the new words like 'Steak', 'Baby Back Ribs, and Root Bear, other more precise orders like "St. Louis-style" were not recognized. In time, as further cultural exchange took place, maybe they would become common knowledge. Despite this, the replicators tried their best to match the order, and soon the order materialized. The random Eshirian Dish was an easier task. A small snack of sorts, something like a few bits of lightly fried suishi (Seaweed bit not fried, simply wrapped like normal.), came along with the order.
Ki's order, which was something like a modified meal version of the smaller snack Robert received with some actual meat and additional vegetables, also appeared at the same time with a glass of some kind of fruit juice.

Robert ate the food, and said, "Mmm....not bad....."
The Kroot was a bit dissapointed, he wanted a raw steak, but meh. He was not going to complain. He ate, tasting the food and judging it sufficient.

Ki took a few bites, and chewed quietly. With a small sip of water, she began, "The next item on the list includes additional work on increasing cultural ties. My advisors are suggesting that there be a few cultural centers built, or..." She said, "Something which I personally think is a great idea. Opening up each other's markets to indigenous businesses. Products flowing between our two respective nations should increase ties, and civilian awareness of each other's popular cultures."

"I think that small steps are needed here, lest we both put our entire populous into a culture shock. Education is something that I think we should hold off on. When it comes time to bring it around, a minor modification into our respective Multicultural Programs should be needed. First, we should see whether or not our people even want to learn about each other. I know most Eshirians will, but I'm not so sure about your race: Humans. Other Humans we've encountered have all been startlingly xenophobic." Ki laughed a bit at a humorous fantasy scenario of Humans recoiling in fear at harmless Eshirian goods, though she quickly snapped back to reality.

And we have Kroot, and plenty of others. We have had to play the culture shock game many times, so it would be no great challenge to us. Of course, getting them to learn gradually would be the key, not many people except me or my staff or those in the Army seem to know that the Soverignity is more than a land of no beer and high technology."

Ki had taken another bite and ate quietly while Robert spoke, nodding her head at points she agreed. When he finished, she nodded slightly a few more times, but then countered, "Ah, Our diplomat, Tsu, did note that she met a 'Catgirl', though she also noted that every other 'Abhuman' she encountered were all either shunned, or doing forced labor. I'd still like to take these steps slowly."

Robert was quite intrigued by the mention of these "spacial" weapons-these could be of value. He then said, curiously: "Spacial weapons? As in ship based munitions? I am aware of the Eshirian Replicator Tubes; they, in principle, inspired the Eshirian System we use now, but I am sure this is not all your grand Soverignity has under its command."

"I will say that most of what we have has never seen the light of day."
She took another bite of her meal. She was almost done by now, and she ordered up another drink of some fruit juice as she said, "I hear that Humans in ND are rather fond of their drinks..."

"Well, we are fond of our alcohol. Wine, whiskey, beer-ale and lager-, vodka, rum-you name it, we have brewed it and distilled it and drank it. History has recorded we are a drinking people; this started because in the old days, you couldn't drink the tap water; but then it ended it that alcohol was just....well....darn established, and helped grease the wheels of social conduct, some ways good, some way bad, mostly good."

Ki laughed a bit. "That's quite a collection." Her tone began to reflect almost nostalgia, as she put her hand on her glass and continued, "Well, Eshirians used to have such a colorful assortment. Oh, but that was ages ago, long before the end of the Imperial Age... Drinking was already dying down by the time of the first Ascension, but the Shadow Wars almost kicked it back into style." Ki laughed a bit as she said, "Yes, everyone needed a little escape back then."
Ki took a sip of her drink, and paused for a moment. Her face reflected her mind, wandering, and recollecting. "After the loss of our homeworld, that, that was the height of its popularity." She looked as Robert as she said, "And that would make sense, wouldn't it? Losing the cradle of your species?"
As she spoke, she tried to study Robert's reaction to all of this. Maybe she was going a bit too far. And yet...
"But for some odd reason, by the time of the reunification of my people with our wayward brethren on Earth, we had stopped with our drinks completely. There's been no answer as to why, but for some reason our bodies just wouldn't take it. Die hard alcoholics tried all that they could, but inn the end, they simply drank themselves to death."
Ki looked back into her glass as she finished, "Yes, after that, drinking wasn't really 'in style', anymore..." She smiled, looked up, and raised her glass. "Heh." she laughed, and took another drink.

Robert looked at the screen, and said, "Well, if it is a live demo, then so be it. I'm sure these putschists are getting what they deserve. Never knew your forces to be so active though. It seems only now you've stopped being peaceful and started being active."
"Such is the nature of foreign entanglements." Ki replied somewhat sadly.
"Things used to be different. 'Peace at all Costs' used to be the old battlecry. Then came the second fall of our civilization, and then the only recently ended isolationist sentiment came about."
Ki sipped her drink. "Still, it wasn't all bad though. The time let us rebuild our fleets, strengthen our government, reinforce Eshirian traditions that were almost lost on the younger generations..."
As she spoke, her eyes were still fixed on the HoloFeed. She watched as rebel NE vessel was shredded by the combined barrage of Taikun MP Siege Cannon fire. "And there, you'll see the effect of our ship's central weapon operating at only quarter power. Every Eshirian ship, save some minor classes, are equipped with at least one. The Preamisus Class Battlecarriers you just saw disabling that vessel are equipped with two. As you can see, it's quite an effective arrangement."
A few aids walked in, and handed Ki a few datapads.
"This is probably turning out to be a more effective demonstration of our ZPGs than what we had planned. Each battlecarrier is equipped with 3. From their firepower, you should be able to see what well maintained ZPGs are capable of. The Siege Cannons you saw firing are essentially raw reactor output. Concentrated amounts enable us to raze entire worlds." Ki spoke with some satisfaction. "... only if need be however. As any sensible race knows, a world is far more useful alive."

Nodding and smiling, Robert said, "Such is our policy. We take worlds alive, if preferable. And frankly, those ZPGs are impressive, such is their fueling ability....fascinating."
He was simply amazed at the blasts, and remarked at them, "There was a man in our society, Robert Oppenheimer. He once said, "I am become death, destroyer of worlds," quoting a holy text. Such words are appropriate, as I see the power of the Siege Cannons."
He then thought, "Make mental note-ensure Super Warp Cannons can match them, atom for atom, wave for wave."

"Yes, well, it's just a little break from the constant beaming around." Ki walked in and sat down in her chair as before. She studied the Kroot for a bit, and asked, "So... just what are you?"
The Kroot replied, stoically: "I am Shokran Kan. My Dornalian name is Alejandro, my full legal name is Alejandro Shokran Kan. I am a Kroot, of the Domash Clan, one of four major clans on my homeworld in what the Comrade Premier dubbed the 'New Territories.' My people hunt for their premier way of life, we mainly trade for guns and ammunition, as well as goods. We have some industry and small settlements, now more than ever. But, for the most part, our clans are what anthropologists call, 'semi-nomadic.' We practice a nature religion, though a few of us are Patriotic Churchmen and Christians. Our leaders are the Shapers, who direct our genetic destiny and our various tribes and bands in war and peace."
Robert then said, "True. That's about it in a nutshell."
Ki paused for a moment to take in all the information. "Facinating... So, as a Kroot, what do you do for the Dornalians?"
That Last Honor Guard filed in and the doors of the Transit slid shut. A quiet hum could be heard as the train's engines powered up. Once again, the view outside fell into a blur as the train accelerated to nearly Mach 1. It's destination, a large structure on the outskirts of the city, was the Grand Hall. It was a general purpose assembly area for everything from government functions, to military meetings. This time, the building had been cleared to house the various gifts the Sovereignty would bestow upon the Dornalians.

Alejandro said, somewhat proudly: "My people serve as soldiers for the Army, and other contractors. Our skills in hunting and fieldcraft are prized. They are also intrigued by what they call the 'Kroot Peculiarity.' That is, when we kill, we eat to gain genetic material that may prove useful for our later development. It is a practice that some find disgusting, some find useful as a tool for psyops, and one anthropologists analyze to death. For us, it is life or death. Without the 'Peculiarity,' our people would die."
Robert then said, "They are not the only Mercenaries recruited by our army. The Kol'Tssien lizards are used as well, and are also recruited for strength and for similar reasons."
Alejandro then frowned, and said to Ki, "Amateurs. The Kol'Tssien are barbarians, they call us stinky, but we don't need drugs to fight!"
Robert then said, rolling his eyes, "What Alejandro refers to is that Kroot don't use the toilet, they sweat their waste out. And, Kol'Tssien, as part of a pre-battle ritual (before big engagements), ingest a native fruit they call the Courage Fruit, or the Fruit of the Mother Being. Basically, a fruit that has a potent chemical cocktail in it that dulls sensitivity to pain, and stimulates the adrenaline and anger centers. We can't eat it-last human that did died of poisoning. But we did use it to create Project Soma."
(OOC: Referring to some actions that Ki did in the NE civil war thread.)
IC:
Ki snapped out of the PsiCommu link, and returned her attention to the Kroot, and Robert. "Sounds like not all of your fellow races are as in accord as I had thought... And this ability seems to carry with it the risk of certain dead ends..."
Before Ki could finish, the Transit once again slowed to a standstill instantly. the blur that was the outside world came clearly into focus, and dominating the new landscape was the General Assembly. The massive structure was awash in lights, and activity. Its imposing facade towered over nearly 3,000 feet high, and its exterior was a beautiful mixture of Eshirian Orient architecture, and futuristic minimalist design traits. The day was just breaking over the city, the morning sun streamed over the building, adding an effect only described as dramatic. "Ahh, here we are." Ki announced, and stepped through the open Transit door.
"Straight this way please."

Robert and Alejandro followed Ki through the door and into the General Assembly. Robert then replied to Ki's comment as he followed, "Well, we do try to keep things civil, though there are tensions..."
Alejandro, meanwhile, said about the General Assembly, "Such a building I have not seen.....it is amazing."
