The original T.I.E. Fighter was built by Republic Sienar Systems for the Old Republic. When the Old Republic collapsed, Republic Sienar Systems was renamed Sienar Fleet Systems. The company was ordered to redesign the old T.I.E. into a starfighter made specifically for the Empire's use. The TIE Fighter was the result. The starfighter outclassed ever other fighter in the same price class during its period of production.
Later, the Empire decided to order an improved TIE Fighter, which has resulted in the mass produced TIE/ln Starfighter line.

The TIE/ln Fighter forms the backbone of the Empire. Designed to replace the aging TIE Fighter, the TIE/ln is an extremely fast and maneuverable fighter. It is a superior fighter of its time and can beat the Y-wing and Z-95 Headhunter in most engagements.
TIE/ln Fighters were first bested by the X-wing starfighter by Incom. The Empire has implemented the rule of engaging Rebel X-wings with a minimum of three TIE/lns.
Before the Battle of Endor, the TIE Interceptor was heavily replacing the TIE/ln model. However, because of the huge amount of TIE Fighters in service, the TIE Interceptor will never completely outnumber its predecessor.
Like all TIE ships, it has a titanium alloy hull and quadanium steel armored solar panels. Also, like other TIE ships, it is built exclusively from Seinar Fleet Systems components, and has no primary life support systems. It is a short-range starfighter, requiring a nearby base of operations from which to obtain fuel and guidance.

The TIE/gs, sometimes referred to as the TIE Extended Fighter, is a planetary superiority fighter version of the original TIE Fighter model. This craft is designed specifically for short-range planetary patrol and defense duties. The TIE/gs can also be used in short range space missions, assuming the pilot wears a sealed flight suit, but perform its function much better in a planetary atmosphere than in deep space. The TIE/gs Fighter's attached repulsorlift booster engine gives it a remarkable fast atmospheric cruising speed and maneuverability, which is comparable to the TIE interceptor's.
TIE Ground Targeting
Model: TIE/gt Fighter
Manufacturer: Sienar Fleet Systems
Designation: Short Range Ground Targeting Support Fighter
Length: 6.3 meters
Crew: 1
Cargo Capacity: 65 kilograms
Consumables: 2 days
Speed: 75 MGLT
Hull: 9 RU
Weapons: 1 Laser Cannon, 1 Concussion Missile Launcher and 1 General Purpose Launcher.
---
A spin-off of the TIE/ln, this is the Empire's first "TIE bomber". It is essentially a TIE/ln with a large warhead launcher attached to the bottom. Due to the added mass, the TIE/gt is slower and less maneuverable than the TIE/ln, but has an increased offensive capability that the Empire lacked in its other starfighters at the time of production. After only a few years of mass production, Sienar Fleet Systems started producing the much more successful TIE Bomber - a double hulled variant that is incredibly deadly in combat.
TIE Trainer/Shuttle
Model: TIE/ts Fighter
Manufacturer: Sienar Fleet Systems
Designation: Short Range Trainer/Shuttle Fighter
Length: 6.3 meters
Crew: 1
Troops: 1 (trainer or priority personnel)
Cargo Capacity: 45 (+ 100 if no passengers are carried) kilograms
Consumables: 1 day
Speed: 80 MGLT
Hull: 9 RU
Weapons: 1 Laser Cannon
---
While most Imperial training takes place in simulators, there is still a point at which a pilot must have a real craft with real vacuum around him, while not yet being ready to solo. The TIE/ts Fighter uses a slightly extended fuselage of the one on the TIE/gt Fighter (the cockpit pod has been extended by 21 cm), and replaces the concussion missile launcher with a (very cramped) seat for an instructor pilot. It also serves as a short-range (intra-fleet and surface-to-orbit) shuttle. While it can carry a second pilot, among the instructors at fighter academies, being assigned to "back seat" students is seen as a punishment, because of the minuscule seating.
TIE Vanguard
Model: TIE/rc Vanguard Fighter
Manufacturer: Sienar Fleet Systems
Designation: Short Range Reconnaissance Fighter
Length: 6.3 meters
Crew: 1
Cargo Capacity: 65 kilograms
Consumables: 2 days
Speed: 80 MGLT
Hull: 9 RU
Shields: 20 SBD
Weapons: 1 Laser Cannon

This short-range reconnaissance fighter was deployed to gather information of enemy starship movements before engaging the enemy fleet in space battle.
The TIE Vanguard is based on the standard TIE/ln design, however the physical difference between the TIE Vanguard and TIE/ln Fighter are greater than for the TIE/rc reconnaissance craft. Several large antennae protrude from the command pod. The upper section of each wing is shortened and swept outwards to reduce interference with some of the enhanced scanners and communication equipment. Several large antennae for the sensors and scanners also protrude from the command pod. The TIE Vanguard is equipped with a small deflector shield to protect the valuable information it gathers.
TIE Fighter Boat
Model: TIE/s Fighter
Manufacturer: Sienar Fleet Systems
Designation: Aquatic Superiority Fighter
Length: 4.3 meters
Crew: 1
Cargo Capacity: 45 kilograms
Consumables: 2 days
Speed: 10 MGLT (120 km/h)
Hull: 9 RU
Weapons: 1 Heavy Blaster Cannon and 1 Concussion Missile Launcher.

The TIE Fighter Boat, sometimes referred to as the TIE Sub Fighter, is an aquatic superiority fighter version of the original TIE Fighter model. This particular TIE has been designed exclusively to operate underwater. Normally attached to Imperial Army Aquatic Garrisons, the TIE Fighter Boats serve as underwater patrol and defense craft. They can also work together with Aquatic Terrain Armored Transport Swimmers (AT-AT Swimmers) and Aquatic Assault Stormtroopers (Seatroopers) in deep water assaults.
Since the TIE Fighter Boat can't operate in space or in normal planetary atmospheres, the Imperial Starfleet doesn't have as many of these craft at their disposal, as the Imperial Army. But if needed in special missions, Naval Command will supply the ships along with other aquatic assault vessels. The Imperial designed AT Barge, onboard most Imperial Star Destroyers and heavy cruisers, is also used to deploy the AT-AT Swimmers and TIE Subs directly into the oceans.
The TIE Fighter Boat is armed with an underwater blaster cannon and 6 underwater missiles with the blast effect of standard space concussion missiles.

A program that never became a standard craft, the TIE X series is no less impressive despite its low numbers. Intended to replace the TIE/ln Fighters in many roles, it was the first group of TIEs to carry shields and a hyperdrive. Using a long set of solar panels, similar to those that would later be used on the TIE Bomber; it is not as maneuverable as the TIE/ln Fighter. Many pilots feel that the higher speed more than counteracts the loss of nimbleness (these apparently include Lord Vader, who supposedly had a personal hand in the design of the TIE X series), as a good pilot can make up for poor performance. They use advanced targeting systems and stronger laser cannons, but the boosted power chambers experience greater erosion than the standard models, thus requiring higher level of maintenance. This is the running theme of the TIE X series, as all of the systems require a higher degree of care taking for reliable function.
After the TIE X1, sometimes called the TIE Assault Craft, there would be a to notable variation. The first was a custom made craft, given as a gift to Lord Vader by the President of Santhe/Seinar, which he used in the Battle of Yavin. It is believed that he used this craft until it was destroyed during the Battle of Endor, resting in its launch cradle on the Executor.
It was followed by a the TIE X2, which featured slightly improved systems, a more powerful navigational computer, a repulsorlift generator and a set of field landing skids. There were fewer of the TIE X2's made, but they were a more popular craft with pilots, who no longer needed to return to specially equipped ships or garrisons to land. These can be distinguished by the cutouts made in the leading edge of the solar panels, forming the "dags" that would become famous on the Interceptor and TIE Advanced.

A hyperdrive capable scout and reconnaissance TIE craft, that was one of the many vessels being used throughout the unexplored and untamed regions of the galaxy, to expand the Empires Frontier. The Imperial Survey Corps (ISC) in the processes of cataloging the galaxy especially used the ship.
The unipod hull is much longer and thicker than that of the smaller TIE/ln fighters, but the front end is the same standard command pod cockpit. In order to support the large radiator wings, the wing pylons are the thicker, sturdier kind, similar to those of the TIE X1 fighter.
The wings are bent, but unlike the wings of a bomber or boarding craft, there is only one bending edge. The wing area is above the midplane of the ship, this is to keep the wings clear of the ground during independent planetary landings. As a scout craft, this ship should be able to land in places other than the conventional ceiling rack of a garrison base or warship. The TIE Scout also has retractable landing pads like the larger TIE transports and TIE X1 Fighters.
TIE Boarding Craft
Model: TIE/bc Boarding Craft
Manufacturer: Sienar Fleet Systems
Designation: Short Range Boarding Craft

These bent-wing vessels are one of the oldest common TIE models, dating back to the earliest days of Emperor Palpatine's rule. The Imperator I Class Star Destroyer was designed to carry six of these ships. The TIE Boarding Craft were also a major part of the hangar complement of the Imperial I Death Star battle station, where 806 TIE Boarding Craft were carried.
The wings and hull design are similar to those of a TIE Bomber and TIE Shuttle Craft, but the vertical segment is somewhat larger, and has radiator panels on its inner surface as well. The starboard pod contains the cockpit, but has space for more occupants. The portside pod is designed to carry a squad of navy troopers or stormtroopers for boarding operations. The forward end of the port pod bears a docking clamp, and has a general-purpose airlock and automatic cutting torches to breach the enemy ship or space station. This mechanism can be extensible beyond the vessel's wings to facilitate mating with a wider variety of docking ports.
TIE Bomber
Model: TIE/bm Bomber
Manufacturer: Sienar Fleet Systems
Designation: Light Short Range Bomber

---
The TIE Bomber was developed to replace the aging TIE/gt fighter. It features a double hull capable of carrying a lethal load of warheads, orbital mines, or free-falling thermal detonators. After the Battle of Yavin, and a two-year replacement operation of the TIE/gt, the TIE Bomber became the primary space bomber in the Imperial Navy.
The TIE Bomber excels at surgical placement of ordinance, picking out small targets on planetary surfaces or on enemy ships. In contrast with full-scale naval bombardment, which leaves only rubble behind, the TIE Bomber can selectively destroy military targets while leaving commercial or military assets untouched. This makes them much more accurate than many capital ships. With its small size and relatively high speed, the TIE Bomber can often slip past defense systems set up to watch for larger craft. It suffers in maneuverability, due to its double-hulled configuration, but when complemented by TIE Fighters or TIE Interceptors, it makes a lethal combination.
Before the Emperor's death, the Empire was working on an advanced prototype TIE bomber that eventually evolved into the TIE Scimitar Assault Bomber.
TIE Heavy Bomber
Model: TIE/hbm Bomber
Manufacturer: Sienar Fleet Systems
Designation: Medium Short Range Bomber
Length: 7.8 meters
Crew: 1
Cargo Capacity: 30 metric tons (bomb bay)
Consumables: 2 days
Speed: 80 MGLT
Hull: 33 RU
Weapons: 2 Laser Cannons, 4 Concussion Missile Launchers and 2 Proton Torpedo, Orbital Thermal Detonator Launchers or Mine.
---
The standard TIE Bombers were developed to replace the aging TIE/gt fighters. The new bombers were heavier and more deadly against larger targets. But still before final testing had ended and before line production had begun, some Imperial officers from the Starfleet Research and Development Group wanted even heavier bombers build. The Rebellion had been spreading like a virus from planet to planet and had become a serious threat, one to be reckoned with. The Rebel forces recently encountered by the Starfleet had been more well equipped and in larger numbers than ever before. And with help from the ugly and repulsive Mon Calamari specie and their huge MC cruisers, they had already managed to take out large Imperial installations and even a few Imperator-Class Star Destroyers. Direct fleet-to-fleet battles had not until recently occurred between Rebel and Imperial forces. The R&D officers anticipated a much larger threat from Rebel capital and command ships in the near future and therefore started their own development and testing of medium and heavy versions of the TIE Bomber.
The new bombers should be able to take the TIE Bombers role in full-scale fighter assaults, primarily in assault on larger ground and space installations or capital spacecraft. By carrying a bigger payload of warheads, they could speed up the final destruction of the enemy, and thereby saving many Imperial fighters from the enemy’s guns and artillery, hopefully without having to withdraw during battle for resuppliement of Warheads.
The first enhanced TIE Bomber model became the TIE/hbm. This enhanced bomber has the same basic features but nearly twice the firepower of the TIE Bomber. The propulsion engine is upgraded to compensate for the added mass of the craft, thereby giving it the speed of the standard TIE Bomber.
The idea of the Rebel forces becoming a "real" threat to the unmatched Imperial Military was by many high ranking seniors considered pure nonsense. The Rebellion was a political situation and not a major military conflict - how could they possibly pose any danger to the Starfleet. All the persons involved in the development of the TIE Heavy Bomber were soon retired from active duty. Sadly the project leader Commodore Korin Maxus took his life after this humiliating incident. The project and the TIE Heavy Bomber production were immediately closed down.
But 3 months later, just after the destruction of the Imperial I Death Star at Yavin, the group was in all haste ordered back to R&D. They should continue their development of heavy assault TIE bombers. If possible they should develop an even heavier bomber.
TIE Interdictor
Model: TIE/int Bomber
Manufacturer: Sienar Fleet Systems
Designation: Heavy Short Range Bomber
Length: 7.8 meters
Crew: 1
Cargo Capacity: 60 metric tons (bomb bay)

Speed: 80 MGLT
Hull: 38 RU
Weapons: 2 Laser Cannons, 8 Concussion Missile Launchers and 4 Proton Torpedo, Orbital Thermal Detonator Launchers or Mine.
---
Image (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b184/Upum/Star%20Wars/tie_interdictor.jpg)
---
The next enhanced TIE Bomber model, after the TIE Heavy Bomber, became the TIE/int. This enhanced bomber has the same basic features but nearly four times the firepower of the TIE Bomber. The propulsion engine is also in this model upgraded to compensate for the added mass, thereby giving it the speed of the standard TIE Bomber. This is one of the most powerful fighters in the Imperial arsenal. Carrying 12 warhead launchers with a total of 48 Missiles and 16 Torpedoes, 16 Proximity Mines or 72 free falling Thermal Detonators.
Still the TIE Interdictor is a vulnerable target and most be escorted into battle by a minimum of 4 TIE Fighters or Interceptors. To cut down production prize Naval R&D has chosen not to equip the TIE Interdictor with a shield generator. But in battles it has shown that the heavy bomber has been a target of intensive aggression. The enemies fear the TIE Interdictor to such an extent that they concentrate much of their firepower towards it, in the hope of bringing it down before it can launch its deadly warheads. Mostly this diversion of fire is only in the Empires favor, as the other involved strike craft gets much easier attack runs with minimal resistance. But the TIE Interdictor is because of this not a favored craft among bomber pilots. Many would rather prefer to battle in a standard TIE/bm Bomber. But it has not yet been a problem to recruit TIE Interdictor pilots as the model is not produced in large quantities and is only deployed in "special" operations with high priority.
In the years between the Imperial I and Imperial II Death Stars, the forces of Lord Darth Vader, in his quest to bring down the Rebel forces, frequently used the TIE Interdictor. But since that time and after the development of the TIE Scimitar Assault Bomber, the TIE Interdictor has nearly gone out of production. Nevertheless, few fleets still order and conduct operations with TIE Interdictor.
TIE Shuttle Craft
Model: TIE/sh Shuttle Craft

The first offshoot of the Bomber was a simple, short-range shuttle to replace the TIE/ts Fighter. It is little more than a TIE Bomber, with the weapons targeting systems removed, and the weapons drum replaced with a pair of passenger seats, and enough room for a cubic meter cargo. While the seating is not overly luxurious, it really isn't a problem for intra-fleet transportation. The passenger seats are on a removable pallet, allowing them to be removed to make way for a fairly large cargo for such a small craft (roughly 17 tons), or for a pair of spacetroopers or a short squad of navy troopers or stormtroopers who must stand. Eventually, it is planned that each Imperator Class Star Destroyer will carry 2 of these craft.
The ill-fated Captain Needa was carried to Lord Vader's Super Class Star Destroyer Executor from he's Imperator Class Star Destroyer Avenger in a TIE Shuttle Craft.
TIE Bomber Trainer
Model: TIE/bmt Bomber Trainer
Manufacturer: Sienar Fleet Systems
Designation: Short Range Trainer/Shuttle Craft
Length: 7.8 meters

The TIE Bomber Trainer is a "modified" version of the original TIE Bomber. Just behind the pilot's seat, an extra (very cramped) seat for an instructor pilot is installed. From this place the instructor can monitor the cadets flying abilities and take over control of the craft if necessary. The TIE Bomber Trainer can also serve as a short-range priority personnel shuttle in emergency situations.
TIE Landing Craft
Model: TIE/lc Landing Craft
Manufacturer: Sienar Fleet Systems
Designation: Short Range Landing Craft
Length: 7.8 meters
Crew: 2
Troops: 18

The TIE Landing Craft, or TIE Lander is a more specialized version of the TIE Shuttle Craft. The TIE Landing Craft has an additional pod mounted on the underside of the basic TIE Bomber hull. The solar panels are also a bit larger, but otherwise, the craft is almost identical to the TIE Shuttle Craft. The TIE Landing Craft is typically used to quickly deploy a small number of ground troops into a combat zone without presenting a large target profile for the delivering ship. The TIE Landing Craft is also used to deploy a large scouting party, or Tech crew without the need of more specialized craft. TIE Landing Crafts are fairly common throughout the Imperial Fleet.
TIE Interceptor
Model: TIE/in Fighter
Manufacturer: Sienar Fleet Systems
Designation: Short Range Superiority Fighter

Shortly before the series of events culminating in the Battle of Yavin, members of the Imperial pilot corps demanded an improved fighter to counter the new Rebel X-Wing. Using data gathered from combat sensor recordings of Rebel fighters and experience with the TIE X series, Sienar Fleet Systems designed several new fighters. The best known, most common and most popular of these is the TIE Interceptor.
The TIE Interceptor is 11% faster than the TIE/ln Fighter, and has a stronger hull. It still retains the command module of the TIE Fighter series, but with several improvements, including a new ion stream projection system, with nearly twice the range of maneuvering. The solar panels are not as tall, but have been elongated, with cutouts made in the wings for pilot visibility. This "dagger" profile has the added advantage of being more intimidating. At the tip of each "dag" there is a laser cannon, giving the TIE Interceptor firepower comparable to the X-Wing, and the improved fire control software makes it just as accurate. The hard points found on the TIE Fighter series are still there, and could be fitted with additional weapons if a more powerful generator, or supplemental generators, were installed.
Introduced just a few months after the Battle of Yavin, the TIE Interceptor was a common sight within a year, and composed 20% of the combat Ties in service by the time of the Battle of Endor. The basic design is highly versatile and served as the basis for the TIE Defender and TIE Advanced. It is expected that when numbers are sufficient, the TIE Interceptor will replace the TIE/ln Fighter in Imperial front-line service.

The TIE Advanced is often described as a cross between the TIE X1/X2 and the TIE Interceptor. In reality, it is an improvement over both of them. Combining heavy firepower, high speeds, a strong hull, shields and a hyperdrive, this ship is a suitable successor to all of its parents. It is equipped with four laser cannons and a pair of general-purpose launchers and is very maneuverable. The TIE Advanced was used in series of classified campaigns to prevent pre-Endor warlordism from shattering the Empire. This is why the Empire never brought more of these forces into the search for the Rebel Fleet after the Battle of Hoth. The TIE Advanced is nicknamed "TIE Avenger", because this craft was the TIE pilot’s vehicle for revenge against the hated X-Wing and A-Wing space superiority fighters.

The TIE V38, or TIE Sentinel fighter design is well known by citizens in the Galactic Empire but most of all for its modified cloaked variant. The basic hull, engine and wing configurations are the same as those on the TIE Phantom. The weapon configuration on the TIE V38 Assault Fighter is slightly different, with its tree laser cannons mounted on each wing tip instead of on the cockpit chin. The Empire decided not to order the TIE V38 Starfighers in large quantities, citing the excessive cost and limited weapons configuration.

After the battle of Yavin and the destruction of the Death Star, the Rebels proved that they were a serious threat to the Empire. The Empire forced to take that threat seriously, responded with new technology and weapons such as the Dark Trooper project and the TIE Phantom. The TIE Phantom research, under the direction of Admiral Sarn, was conducted in the Dreighton Nebula. The Nebula, a site of a major battle in the Old Republic was rumored to be haunted and the source of ships mysteriously disappearing. This provided perfect cover for development of a top-secret stealth starfighter.
The TIE Phantom packs slightly above normal firepower for a starfighter of its class. However the main improvement of the ship was a cloaking device. With the stealth shield in place, short and long-range delectability of the ship was almost nonexistent. Should the Phantom have gone into wide production, the Empire would certainly have had the upper hand.
Sigma Squadron, the first wave of these deadly TIE fighters, came within mere hours of launch before the construction facility on Imdaar Alpha was destroyed, along with the Empire's stockpile of the ship. Admiral Sarn's command ship, the Super Star Destroyer Terror was also eliminated along with the base. The admiral was retired from active duty personally by Lord Vader. The Rebel strike team, commanded by Ru Murleen captured one of the precious vessels, but the fighter was destroyed at a rebel base due to Imperial security fail-safe measures.

Designed by the traitorous Admiral Zaarin, former head of Imperial R&D, the TIE Defender is an exceptional starfighter by the fact that not only does it have shields, but is hyperspace capable and has a small load of warheads in addition to the standard boosted laser cannons and ion cannons. The sleek power of the TIE Defender surpasses anything the Empire has to offer, with firepower superior to the TIE Advanced, and more powerful engines than any Rebels starfighter. It is truly a force to be reckoned with. The TIE Defender has a distinctive look, due to the three solar panel configuration, one at 120 degrees from another. The Defender is unlikely to see widespread use, mainly due to the losses during Zaarin's attacks against the Empire and the loss of vital Imperial starfighter production facilities. But few of these ships are still produced and placed in active service for the Imperial Navy.

The TIE Scimitar is named after the Scimitar Assault Wing, one of the most highly decorated TIE Bomber ground assault units in the Empire, who are reportedly responsible for it's design. The Scimitar actually uses a single ion engine, but it is still faster than the TIE Bomber. The pilot has been joined by a bombardier/co-pilot, and both are housed in a detachable cockpit module which has it's own life support and power supply, increasing crew survivability. The Scimitar adds a repulsorlift engine, and is specifically intended to support ground forces and attack surface targets, rather than space assaults (which it also has been used for). It has a similar weapons load to the TIE Bomber, but uses a simpler weapons mount. The entire underside of the fuselage may be opened for weapons release, and the drum is driven from a center mounted spindle, rather than the overly complicated, mounted gears of the Bomber. This entire system may be lowered free, allowing the weapons drum to be slid off of the spindle, improving the speed of reloading (particularly in forward areas), and allowing a single TIE Scimitar to function as a scout ship with a target designator and defensive jammers mounted on a special drum.
While the TIE Scimitar Assault Bomber is the only Scimitar ship to have been placed into production, an escort fighter, an interceptor and a heavy bomber have all been designed based off of this basic model. With the development of the TIE Avenger and TIE Defender it is unlikely that these other fighters will ever see the light of day.

A spin-off of the TIE/ln, this is the Empire's first "TIE bomber". It is essentially a TIE/ln with a large warhead launcher attached to the bottom. Due to the added mass, the TIE/gt is slower and less maneuverable than the TIE/ln, but has an increased offensive capability that the Empire lacked in its other starfighters at the time of production. After only a few years of mass production, Sienar Fleet Systems started producing the much more successful TIE Bomber - a double hulled variant that is incredibly deadly in combat.
TIE Trainer/Shuttle
Model: TIE/ts Fighter
Manufacturer: Sienar Fleet Systems
Designation: Short Range Trainer/Shuttle Fighter
Length: 6.3 meters
Crew: 1
Troops: 1 (trainer or priority personnel)
Cargo Capacity: 45 (+ 100 if no passengers are carried) kilograms
Consumables: 1 day
Speed: 80 MGLT
Hull: 9 RU
Weapons: 1 Laser Cannon
