[Earth II] Germanian Danish, Lithuanian, and Ukrainian Armies Invade The Wick!

In a sudden surprise attack, five massive armies based out of Denmark, Lithuania, and Ukraine launched an invasion against the Wickish countries of Latvia and Estonia from the Belarussian border.

Using the strength of ultra-stealth and heavy bombers to eliminate ground defenses, the attack was quickly followed by hundreds of salvos of Austrian-built Kormoran-III cruise missiles and artillery and MLRS bombardment.

Shortly there after, the armies moved into strike position. Resistance has been stiff thus far, but the Reichsmarine presence seem to be inflicting massive damage to the Wickish mainland while German and Austrian tanks and IFVs perform Blitzkrieg operations into the respective countries.

The Fallschirmjäger (Paratroopers) and Schwarzenjäger (Special Ops) have played vital roles in landing behind enemy lines and causing immense confusion to unsuspecting Wickish troops.

Thus far, the operation seems to be a success with the Germanian armies advancing quickly.

Secret Message to North Germania

Whilst the Empire will be supplying you from the Atlantic, any assets we have in Ireland, Iceland, and Greenland that is helpful would be sent. Reconnaissance, logistics, etc. can all be spared.

A young, blonde-haired, blue-eyed woman appears on the screen standing in front of the Bundestag in Vienna, Austria. The wind is blowing, and behind her several officers from the Reichswehr and OS are discussing the wars in Latvia-Estonia and Yelmish Romania.

The channel, Reich International News Network (RINN) could be viewed from any country in the world because of the global satellite positioning system designed, developed, and built by a vast team of English, French, Spanish, Ukrainian, and Austrian scientists.

Now a reporter by the name of Anna-Marie Krägel gave the World an update on the conquest of the Reichswehr.

Reich International News Network Update

[Translated from German]

"Today, the Luftwaffe launched a massive air strike against two advancing Wickish Infantry Regiments, supported by one advancing Wickish Tank Regiment in Latvia. Reichswehr Analysts estimate that the totally successful counter-assault launched by Germania was the result of a massive number of and dozens of different types of air-to-surface missiles, along with titanic air-burst "shotgun-style" bombs, which work by detonating roughly ten meters above the ground and sending out over 500 two-kilogram mini-bombs.

When interviewed by Reich International News, Generalleutnant Hans Wilsdorf stated that the reason the Luftwaffe was able to succeed was because of 'the most advanced stealth technology, the most advanced weapons systems, the most advanced engine systems, and the most up-to-date information provided to the Luftwaffe in this campaign by the Reichskanzler.'

Later during the interview, Wilsdorf stated that the multiple imagery satellites - launched into space only one month prior to the invasion of Latvia and Estonia - gave the Luftwaffe the information they needed, such as plane movements on the ground, SAM site locations, and the fact that almost an entire army was approaching the largely unopposed Germanian force.

However, thing took a turn for the worse later in the day when the Wickish Airforce took to the skies in full force. The RIN Network is being denied access to release any war footage to the international community, but we have several photographers and cameramen on the front lines attached to the 97th OS Mechanized Infantry Regiment.

Generalleutnant Wilsdorf later commented that the death toll for both sides was surprisingly low for the size of the two armies, but he was displeased at the lack of progress and that the Reichswehr should be advancing at three times its speed.

On a darker note, an intense firefight broke out in a medium-sized village West of the city of Daugavpils between Wickish Special Forces and the 76th OS Infantry Brigade. Front line reporters informed me that the battle lasted for roughly thirty-seven hours before the 214th OS Mechanized Infantry Brigade arrived and captured the village.

We thank you for watching today's Reich International News Network update on the war in Latvia-Estonia."

Curious, does Wick know of this thread, or is it another one of those Inactive nations go poof threads?

OOC: I don't see you listed as an Earth II member, Godular.

But to answer your question, he has been TG'd.

I'm not in Earth II, I'm just asking since I've RP'd with Wick before a bit. Plus I saw something similar done to Kriegorgrad a while back since he was no longer RPing in Earth II. Something about how if they don't RP in Earth II for a certain length of time, the other nations RP a takeover and the absent nation is no longer considered a part of the system.

Like I said, just curious. Don't let me keep ya.

The WIckians were no strangers to war, they were the victims of an assault by North Germania almost a decade before and it seems despite their best effort they have been the victims of another unwarranted invasion. There was hopes after the armistice that the WIckians could and would live in peace with their neighbor, whose hegemony stretched over almost the entirety of Europe. The two small Baltic States which comprised the WIckian Commonwealth were insignificant compared to the mass of North Germania. Yet, the WIckians were a fiercely independent people would not submit to any subjugation of their nation no matter the price their resistance would cost. This was a day that every WIckian had been preparing for since the end of the last conflict and now it had arrived.

The painful memories of the first war were clear in the minds of every WIckian. The Small nation of almost thirty million was a closely knit people. Every knew people who were lost in the last conflict and they knew many more who were wounded in that fight. The People remembered the indiscriminate bombing of civilian centers by the allies of North Germania and they remember the launching of the war with out provocation. Those memories do not die easily…and now it was all happening again.

+ + +

The Commonwealth Air Force subscribed to the classic Baltic doctrine of not placing their fighters and interceptors at large international airports or large airbases. The Air Force could not afford the massive numbers of their enemy, and it was believed that when an attack came it would most likely wipe out much of the Air Force on the ground before they could get airborne. With the exception of a few squadrons of F-14s and large recon craft the vast majority of fighter command was garrisoned in small remote locations. Locations where airstrips consisted of nothing more then a dirt road, locations where the aircraft could be hidden form the best surveillance measures. It was from these bases the WIckians would take to the air to fight their enemy.

However at the time of the attack six F-14 Tomcats were airborne flying a standard CAP over their homeland in two plane flights . These plans carried their numerous deadly and long range phoenix missiles for interdiction of enemy bombers.

Lt. Commander Frederick Wilkinski identified the enemy formations first.

“Contact, unidentified formations, make them out to be hostile bombers and fighter escorts. Two,” the commander said addressing his wingman “Contact Home Base and inform them of the enemy formations tell them we are engaging. Tally ho on my mark.” In less then five seconds later no less then twenty four missiles raced towards the enemies heavy bombers the war had begun once again.

+ + +

The WIckian Army was not foolish enough to engage their opponents at their frontier. There were no border guards beyond lightly armed border police operating with armored SUVs their heaviest weapons was the .45 cal UMP sub-machine gun. Needless to say they were not offering any resistance to oncoming mechanized infantry or armored units. They were civilians after all.

The first five to ten kilometers past the border was where the enemy advance would have begun to meet resistance. The Southern Provinces was quite rugged terrain, thick forests and swamps made passage by heavy mechanized forces most difficult. The southern border was also saturated with mines, hundreds of thousand ran the length of the border, the only more dense concentration could have been found on the border with Belarus. Attack helicopters began to launch nap of the earth missions against the enemy columns. They fly below tree level only popping above their cover for mere seconds to launch hellfire missiles or rockets at the advancing enemy elements.

There existed four active divisions in the WIckian Army, each was responsible for the defense of a city, in the southern province there was a heavy division deployed around the capital Riga, Daugavpils, and Liepeja. Defense of the country side wasn’t to be attempted instead the WIckians would defend from their cities and oppose any attempt to cross the wide and deep Daugava River. There existed in the Army twice as many Home Guard and Militia forces responsible for protecting other river crossings and cities of significance as well. It would be clear to any enemy that the Wickian Armed forces would fight them in their cities, to engage such numbers on the open field would have been worst then suicide.

OOC: Thanks for the reply, WIck. Also, if you've changed your mind and DON'T want to get rid of your land, we can just say this never happened, cool?

IC:

The 4th, 11th, 13th, and 18th Armies were advancing slowly through Latvia, but claiming everything in their path. Thus far they had only encountered token resistance -- what seemed to be a National Militia, and a few veterans of the previous invasion. Then again, they were only seven kilometers into the country.

While the bombing run performed by the FB-1 heavy bombers had been a phenomenal success in terms of striking ground targets - mainly what intelligence had gathered to be a large military base, from what was seen from satellite imagery: troop movements, tanks, artillery, etc. - had been a phenomenal disaster in the terms of damage done to the bombers.

Southwestern Latvia, bombing of the Wickish military base...

[Translated from German]

Oberst Götz Otto: "Target in sight... Wings A through D, release payload now."

Major Hermann Graub: "Confirmed. Releasing payload... payload released. Target hit."

Hauptmann Achem Weissmann: "Target hit."

Hauptmann Jochem Kramm: "Releasing payload... target hit... Herr Oberst! Report missiles inbound! Repeat, missiles inb-"

The four wings had been struck by twenty-six Wickish missiles, four for each bomber. Six bombers had been downed by the attack. Following the initial strike, the Wickish fighters unleashed a wall of Gatling gun rounds at three other bombers, tearing them to pieces.

Nine bombers total were destroyed before the bomber group's escort arrived: ten FkH-11/16 Stealth Fighters.

The Tomcats were picked-up easily on radar, and the fighters dropped down on top of the Wickish aircraft from an invisible 65.000 feet to 38.758 feet where the bombers were being engaged.

Immediately, the FkH-11/16's unique radar systems picked up which aircraft were enemy and which were friendly; on the radar red dots blinked for enemy, light blue for friendly. Each red dot was assigned a number, 1 through 6 in this case.

Oberstleutnant Reinhardt Tübinger: "Wickish fighters on radar. Alpha One, target Red One. Alpha Two, target Red Two. Alpha Three, target Red Two. Beta One, target Red Three. Beta Two, target Red Four. Beta Three, target Red Five..."

The fighters were divided-up amongst the fighter pilots within a minute's time, and soon a volly of twenty Fk-19 Air-to-Air missiles were fired, followed by ten Fk-21 Air-to-Air and eight Fk-16 Air-to-Air missiles. The average number of missiles per enemy plane was three.

Without wasting a moment's time, the FkH-11/16 Stealth Fighters followed the missile salvo by hailing the enemy fighters with their dual 35mm, six-barreled Gatling guns.

Six Wickish aircraft had been fired upon by ten FkH-11/16s, in exchange for the loss of twelve Germanian heavy bombers out of thirty-six, and the hypothetical huge amount of damage done to a significant military compound.

They had caught the Wickians off-guard, but it would not be long before their war machine was released relentlessly again on the soldiers of the Reich...
