MierTech Lottery

Welcome to the MierTech Lottery. Based on many lotteries in each nation, rather than pay tickets with small amounts, to win large amounts, you buy a ticket with rather more money, and the winner gains various vehicles, technology and other stuff.

As with other lotteries, you buy your ticket ($1mil each ticket), and choose your numbers. Then each week we spin our machines and get certain numbers. If your numbers match then you win the main prize. However if no-one wins in a given week, the prizes rollover to the next weeks lottery.

Ok, so you have to choose 6 different numbers (Not 5 as some people think!), ranging from 1-50 (Not to 100 though). The amount you win is related to how many numbers are similar between your choice and the winning numbers:

1 similar number - nothing
2 similar numbers - nothing
3 similar numbers - $1mil (you haven't gained or lost anything)
4 similar numbers - $10mil
5 similar numbers - $50mil
6 similar numbers - Grand Prize


To enter, supply us with $1mil, and your 6 chosen numbers, and your entry shall be accepted. We will stop taking entries on Saturday 5pm (Western Australia time = +8hrs GMT), and the winner(s) will be posted here as soon after that as possible (no later than Sunday).

The Merkar Republic will buy 36 tickets of all 36 different number combinations for $36 million.

Theres just a tad more variations than 36 - I believe that the number of combinations would be more like 6^6, than 6^2. Either way, it'd be too demanding on my time to try to work out all the configurations - I've got exams at the mo, so I'm having to revise for them. Therefore, unless you can give me all 36 combinations you would like, I'm going to have to decline your ticket purchases. Sorry.

Just doing a little quick math. There would be alot more then 36 combinations. Their's 50 numbers with 6 choices doing that 6 to the power of 50 would be well thousands if not millions of possible combinations. Since the odds are on average 1 to 15,890,700. You have alot of number combinations to work out. You should oh have them done in about a few years. Have fun. :D

Correct. There are 50^6 possible combinations. Also known as 15,625,000,000 or 15.625 Billion. Meaning the cost of buying a ticket for every single combination would be 15,625,000,000,000,000 or 15.625 Quadrillion dollars.

As you can see that would be a terrible idea to attempt and would be simply nonsensical.

I found a site that list combinations. This is what it says. However do keep in mind that it uses only up to the number 47 and not 50 so there would be alot more. Remember also that how they are arranged does matter since 1,2,3,4,5,6 is the same as saying 6,5,4,3,2,1 and so both are counted only once. So with 47 numbers with 5 numbers to pick instead of six it gives you a total combination of 41,416,,353 possible lottery combinations. Which in our case would be way higher since we have 50 numbers with 6 to pick for instead of 5.

So someones going to be busy for a very long time as I have no idea how long over forty-one million four hundered sixteen thousand three hundred fifty-three number combinations is going to take to write out.

Ah, true. I did not realize it could be in any order (most lotteries aren't like that).

Hmm, yeah so a lot of combinations there. And as for most lotteries being order specific, both the British (which this is based off slightly) and the Asutralian lotteries are non-order specific. Also I've dropped the bonus ball(s) - no need for them here I think.

So this whole thing is a ripoff! Why are people wasting money? Noone's every going to win. By the way, how do you determine the winning combinations?

But all lotteries are like that - you don't see people not paying the miniscule amount because the chance of winning is infinitesimly small. And, United Earthlings has already won some (admittedly not a lot), so it can happen.

(OOC: United Earthlings, I love the holiday idea. Its brilliant!)

As for how I obtain the numbers - simple: I use random.org to generate the numbers. I use the lottery part, and specify values 1-50, and then just use the first 6 numbers in the list it creates. Its easy, and beyond reproach, unless people get really antsy, which when people are spending $1mil or so a shot out of trillions of dollars in their budget is stupid.
