A request for vandalising Hogsweat-supporters.

In the last couple of days, NSwiki (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page), the major unofficial encyclopaedia for NationStates, has suffered a number of attacks from Hogsweat supporters. This has included voodoo cursing moderator names, defacing major reference articles (on alliances, wars etc) with pro-Hogsweat messages, and vandalising user pages of people that disagreed with them. I’ve also had to delete some sort of pro-Hogsweat petition that was being made on the wiki.

I’m now asking those persons responsible to stop it. Vandalising the wiki does not help Hogsweat or whatever cause you are supporting at all. It only gives innocent people like Goobergunch more work to undo the damage that is being done. We are monitoring all the changes to the NSwiki, your vandalising will not slip through undetected. You will also receive a temporary IP-ban from the NSwiki if you do it.

NSwiki is not taking sides in this thing. It is not a Discussion forum, or a free Wiki host or a personal homepage. It is an unofficial resource, and it is not endorsed by either Jennifer Government: NationStates or Jolt Online Gaming. Please do not abuse the freedom given to you by the wiki format. Thank you.

Voodoo cursing moderator names? Come on guys, that's just sad. There isnt anyone more pro-Hogsweat than me (except maybe Hogsweat) and I have to say that this is at best silly, and at worst threatening and quite distrubing. Just stop it - you arent helping anything, you're just tarring those of us who have morals with your own brush.

However, is this thread actually necessary? There are already 2 such threads on the same subject I know of, although admittedly one (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=450045&page=2) was locked for some unknown reason.

Yeah, seriously, I support Hogsweat but don't take out NSwiki. This is really juvenille crap being done by both sides.

I asked Katganistan about this thread before posting it. Katganistan agreed to using this wording, as well as placing it in International Incidents.

It is not intended as a discussion thread, really, as it should be self-evident that this sort of behaviour is no good. I will not hesitate to ask to lock this thread if anyone does feel the need to fan any flames. It'd be a locked sticky, but then it is unprecedented to do this for an offsite forum. Therefore, on sticky and no lock, and preferably also no "discussion."

Thanks.

So you post a thread and then you complain at people for replying? I think I can see where this is going. If a mod wants to make a sticky, then a mod can make a sticky, not you. I have no further interest in this thread.

I disdain my name being used in this. It is absolutely terrible.

Vandalizing NSwiki? Come on, people. I don't know who did that, but it would be just a stupid, pointless act of defiance, and that's what I'm telling everyone who did. Do we all agree on that? I hope so.

Now on to more pleasant matters.

It's wrong, yes, but unfortunately, certain people who have supported you have ruined it for everyone else by committing these pointless acts, and its sad that they're linked to you.

Vandalizing NSwiki? I don't know who did that ...
I am in the difficult position of being both an NS Mod (who did participate in the decision to delete Hogsweat), and a longtime NSwiki sysop. I don't want to be seen as taking sides in the Mod / anti-Mod thing with this topic, but vandalizing NSwiki goes beyond 'just wrong', and well into the realm of 'reprehensible'.

NSwiki is a NationStates resource provided free of charge (and directly out of the pocket of) Goobergunchia. He is not affiliated with NS mods in any way, apart from the fact that he is friendly with some of them through years of playing this game. The other sysops (Knoot, Goober, and Pacitalia, primarily) have been handling the bulk of the reversions, and all you vandals are doing is tying up their time and keeping them from enjoying the game. It's pointless. Probably 5 people might see your edits, and four of them are sysops who are just getting pissed at you. KNOCK IT OFF.

Don't count on the anonymity of the internet here for your anonymous edits. Wiki edits are permanently recorded in the History tabs, and there are lots of offsite forums that record IP information as well. It doesn't take a great detective to track you down, and several of you have already heard from me privately via NS telegram.

You're spray-painting garbage on the walls of one of the nicest playgrounds around. Do you honestly think that advances your cause? Wake up. You're being idiots, and almost everyone here can see that.

On the topic of changing wikis, I had nothing to do with this particular case, but I had fun on the real wikipedia once. This summer I went to their article on the World Series and boldly wrote write after the All-Star Break that the White Sox would be playing in it against the NL Champions. I wrote the Sox would have home field advantage (well duh, the AL won the ASG. Of course a few weeks later, someone noticed it and erased it. Guess what? I was right!!!!! Sox won the pennant and games 1, 2, 6, and 7 will be at USCF. I thought I jinxed the team though when they started to tailspin in September.

I'm starting to get annoyed by all this, honestly. At the rate this is going, it's going to affect my RPs, and when something as stupid as this gets in the way of my fun, I'm going to start voicing my opinion. I don't know what Hogsweat did to get deleted, and I don't particularly care, but this is starting to approach my borders. I ask both the mods and thepeople to just drop this whole damn thing and whoever made the NSWiki pages originally, just fix them. It's not hard to rewrite something like that if it's memorable. As for the vandalizers, get over yourselves. I've had my share of confrontations with the mods before and I do object to some of their actions, but that's no reason to affect the II forum and those who just want to WRITE. Honestly, this is HOGSWEAT'S problem and nobody else's so just forget the whole damn thing. Yeah, he was long-time good RPer, but I've seen plenty of them come and go. The only thing I ask of the mods aside from their jobs is to answer all questions, save for inappropriate ones, because as it has been proven, a government that doesn't inform its people is doomed to fail.

These forums are for WRITING and WRITING only. I, as an objector to this whole damn situation, request the mods to pin and lock this thread or just plain lock it, either would be appropriate. Nobody is helping here, not even me.

My goodness. Hogsweat himself has requested people to stop all this activity - how about these so-called "pro-Hogsweat" elements stop such subversive and shameful activity for their own personal benefits and interests?

Actually, it's an ancient Hebrew curse, not a voodoo curse. </nitpick> And before you ask, I'm not Jewish, I just know a few phrases in Hebrew.

Wait, curses? Why do I never catch any of the fun stuff?

Yea, unfortunately I knew some of the people that did it, although I personally did not change any Wikis. Fortunately, I, and other nations [including Pacitalia mostly], persuaded them not to vandalize featured or attempted featured articles for respect to the person who put so much work into it. Again, unfortunately, other articles were vandalized.

Because people don't put work into non-FACs?

Anyway, I think this whole thread is getting slightly off-kilter. I haven't seen any vandalisms in several hours, and I trust that when one vandal's tempban expires, (s)he won't revert to destruction. Perhaps we can put this behind us, and not provide anything further that would need in a comment in this thread or others like it. I, as someone who had a page (not very well) mucked about with, consider the matter closed; I hope all concerned can do the same. As stated previously, Hogsweat's deletion and related grievances, if they belong anywhere, most certainly do not belong on NSwiki.

That's not what I tried to imply, if you got that message. But obviously, FACs are the absolutely best of Wiki, and that should be respected. There's no doubt other articles should be just as respected, but FACs just hold that connotation of being 'special'.

Mac, I think you misconstrued what I said. I agreed that articles in general should not be vandalised, not just the FAC or featured ones - that would definitely not be a fair thing to suggest at all. We did talk about featured articles, and you asked me how you could make your articles better, but my comments on vandalism were meant to be general, not just endemic to the hard-working people on NSwiki. No one likes to see their stuff vandalised, even if it's a one-sentence article.

Again, that's not what I tried to imply. Again you and I, mostly you, made a point not to vandalize in general, but we successfully persuaded them not to vandalize the FAC and featured articles. Again, it would have been better had they not vandalized at all, but unfortunately did.
