Right, whats the crack with wars, pillaging and other assorted pilfering.

Kippertonia is a newly formed region - we want in on the action.....where is it?

Here (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=437653).

Once you've digested all that, come back and you're ready to begin.

right I've read some of that, and I want your diamond mines.

NOW.

RAUS!!

So the way to do that is to start a thread stating in proper IC fashion to the following effect: "The region of Kippertonia seeks to expand its limited resources by conquering <insert name of country here>". I mean, naturally you'd want to make it more detailed than that, but you get what I mean.

Alternately, you can post something along the lines of "We have raided diamond mines/oil fields/cities in <insert name of country here>, across our mountainous westerm border", in more detail. Of course, you have to work it out with the country itself first, perhaps by posting an OOC thread like this one.

Hope this helps.

Actually, I have no diamond mines. And the rest of my country's resources, including oil wells, semiprecious stone mines, silver, and blue sapphires are very well hidden, sorry. :p

Although a war in which I'm the big nation might actually be unusual. Usually I've been invaded by nations with 3-5 billion inhabitants.

(Since this is all OOC anyway, I don't think it matters. You wouldn't send out an official message from your government reading, "I want your territory!" unless you're a member of a certain group of RPers who have earned the right to do that with their Frightening economies, 5 billion plus populations, and 40%+ defense spending. Yes, I am looking at a certain excessively armed warlord. ;))

Generally, RPing their creation tends to work well. Then giving a hint as to their capabilities, etc.....

Actually, I may be invading you. You can see first hand how to RP war! After all, learning experience=good. But read the stickies. They're the resource you want.

For troop weapons would be very hand me down weapons as from the cold war and such. You might have a 1 plane airforce and io dont think you can handle a navy without building row boats.

do we go into as much details as - munnitions stocks, numbers of sam-7's etc??

How do we ascertain whether my hand to hand skills are better than yours?

Will my chin flick break your neck, for example??

Well, as for Military, the general guideline is - don't exceed 5% of your population. The more population you have, the lower the percentage gets. I'd wait untill about 100-200 mil. Pop. before forming your Military. Allowable equipment? Depends on what era you're RPing...modern Technology tends to be existing, and wequipment that could exist by 2010. PMT (Post-Modern Tech) is more advanced, 2020-2050 or so...not exactly sure. FT (Future Tech)m, star warsy, trekky, space-spanning nations. One you've decided your technology era, figuring out your equipment comes easy.

A lot of young Nations jump into getting WMDs...nukes, biological weapons and the like...and toss them around like a happy dentist with candy. The general guideline here is - only use them for defence - and do not try to buy/develope nuclear weapons untill at least 100 mil. pop. Personally, I don't have a Nuclear stockpile.

Also, don't declare wars for no reason, don't claim that you're going to rule the world. Even saying this figuratively can get you toasted.

Find some War Threads, read them, get a feel for it...once your Population grows, get involved in some small wars or better yet, wargames.

Untill then - Roleplay international relations with other Nations. That way you can have strong ties with allies, and have deep roots in their well-being, and their roots in yours.

I didn't do that - I regret it now.

As for details in that matter - some people say it's needed, others do not. Some people choose to go into how much each individual soldier carries, and even how many calories they take in with their MREs...others are more interested in the story.

Best I can say, find a good mix - find out the numbers of your troops, what they're armed with (or armoured with), work out unit sizes, and how many units you have. Wikipedia can help a lot with Unit Sizes. But do not let numbers be your only asset. Also have a story, focus on a few characters, or a couple of units in the roleplay, so you can roleplay the characters, as well as the war.

We're here to roleplay, so always write your best - like you're writing a story. Becuase you are, a story with many authors.

Muntions stocks not very much and SAm sites I dont think you would have yet. you may but im not sure. Remeber. Were rping with Armies here. If you tried lanching your men at me with only hand to hand combat skills you would ber shot down and blown apart before you could get to a Zackarothians soilders chin. My advice is to instead of war withj another nation is to become a client state until your ready to move on by yourself.

If you want to role-play as a modern-tech nation, that means no spaceships, no AT-91 six-beam stealth ionizer cannons, and probably no giant conscious deathless metal monsters. As future-tech (FT), just about anything goes, but keep it plausible. As past-tech (PT), no guns for example, no tanks, etc. Post-modern tech (PMT), you can expand slightly on what things are like now.

Your total manpower for the army should not be more than 4% of your population, except in wartime when you have a draft, and then it can be up to 10%, counting the women, children, and old folks.

Also, start out with a small navy and a small airforce, because you're still a fairly small nation. This doesn't mean that they will have to stay on similar portions. For example, my navy is outclassed by that of every single n00b with 10 million citizens or more, while my air force is huge and all-powerful on any airspace, due to appropriate allocation.

No invincible weapons or anything, that falls under godmodding.

I think that's a partial overview that ought to help.

[QUOTE=Czardas][snip]QUOTE]

What he said.

Another good way to go about getting a military, is buying equipment. Your budget can be worked out at a couple of calculation sites...thirdgeek.com comes to mind.

The numbers you'll be looking for will be under "Defence," take around (roughly) 20% of that for your spending money. Remember, you have to have money to maintain what equipment you do have, feed, clothe, and pay your military personnel, etc, etc...

Can we not just ask Donatello to make us some equipment?

And then get He-Man to wield the sword and Panthero the maces???

i think Gandalf and Obi Wan along with Leroy Jenkins should be Chiefs in charge of military operations.

And how can I get hold of a spector-v6 atomic bomb???

I'm afraid I have no control of the first three queries, and as for the fourth, you buy one. I think that's how it's supposed to work.

((Although, as a note, they generally cost a bit too much for nations to afford until they reach approximately 100 million population.))
